Family’s private investigator: There is evidence Seth Rich had contact with WikiLeaks prior to death
WASHINGTON – It has been almost a year since Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was murdered in the nation’s capital. There have been no solid answers about why he was killed until now.
Rich was shot and killed last July in Northwest D.C and police have suggested the killing in the District’s Bloomingdale neighborhood was a botched robbery. However, online conspiracy theories have tied the murder to Rich’s work at the DNC.
Just two months shy of the one-year anniversary of Rich’s death, FOX 5 has learned there is new information that could prove these theorists right.
Rod Wheeler, a private investigator hired by the Rich family, suggests there is tangible evidence on Rich’s laptop that confirms he was communicating with WikiLeaks prior to his death.
Now, questions have been raised on why D.C. police, the lead agency on this murder investigation for the past ten months, have insisted this was a robbery gone bad when there appears to be no evidence to suggest that.
Wheeler, a former D.C. police homicide detective, is running a parallel investigation into Rich’s murder. Wheeler said he believes there is a cover-up and the police department has been told to back down from the investigation.
“The police department nor the FBI have been forthcoming,” said Wheeler. “They haven’t been cooperating at all. I believe that the answer to solving his death lies on that computer, which I believe is either at the police department or either at the FBI. I have been told both.”
When we asked Wheeler if his sources have told him there is information that links Rich to Wikileaks, he said, “Absolutely. Yeah. That’s confirmed.”
Wheeler also told us, “I have a source inside the police department that has looked at me straight in the eye and said, ‘Rod, we were told to stand down on this case and I can’t share any information with you.’ Now, that is highly unusual for a murder investigation, especially from a police department. Again, I don’t think it comes from the chief’s office, but I do believe there is a correlation between the mayor’s office and the DNC and that is the information that will come out [Tuesday].

On Sunday, Yassona also said there had been “murder threats” at Cipinang as “some individuals are not happy with him,” reported Tempo.
Death threats by anti-Ahok campaigners are not new.
Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) spokesman Munarman said last November that Ahok should be decapitated, should the state not arrest and convict him for blasphemy.
A viral video that same month showed a “holy man” offering to pay IDR1 billion (US$76,900) to anybody that murdered the governor.
Authorities had previously said Ahok was moved to Brimob’s facility – generally used to house terrorism suspects – because “other detainees [at Cipinang] were bothered by the noise” of protests outside the prison by his supporters.
“The religious people have been saying in the mosques his blood is haram (forbidden) and that killing him is good,” said Ahok’s sister and the head of his legal team Fifi Lety Indra last week.
“This is necessary protection and it gives us peace and comfort he’s there.””

Russian oligarch Deripaska sues AP for libel

A Russian aluminum magnate with ties to President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, is suing The Associated Press for libel over its reporting on the pair’s relationship.
Lawyers for Oleg Deripaska filed the suit Monday in federal court in Washington, claiming that the CEO of the Russian firm United Company RUSAL was defamed by a March AP story reporting about business dealings between Deripaska and Manafort.
The suit alleges that the AP report was libelous because it falsely implied that Deripaska was paying Manafort for work aimed at advancing the goals of the Russian government and Russian president Vladimir Putin. The suit also says the article created a false impression that Deripaska’s dealings with Manafort were intertwined with the Trump campaign when that work ended by 2009 and that Deripaska is tied to ongoing investigations of alleged theft of assets from Ukraine after the ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014.

Syrian government denies U.S. accusation of crematorium at prison
BEIRUT (Reuters) – The Syrian government on Tuesday denied U.S. accusations that a crematorium had been built at one of its prisons that could be used to dispose of detainees’ remains.
A foreign ministry statement published by state news agency SANA said the U.S. administration had come out with “a new Hollywood story detached from reality” by alleging the crematorium had been built at Sednaya military prison near Damascus.
Stuart Jones, acting U.S. assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs, said on Monday that U.S. officials believe the crematorium could be used to dispose of bodies at a prison where they believe Assad’s government authorized the hanging of thousands of inmates during Syria’s six-year-old civil war.
Amnesty International reported in February that an average of 20 to 50 people were hanged each week at the Sednaya military prison. Between 5,000 and 13,000 people were executed at Sednaya in the four years since a popular uprising descended into war, it said.
The government also denied that accusation.
Amnesty said the executions took place between 2011 and 2015, but were probably still being carried out and amounted to war crimes.
In a briefing on Monday, Jones showed aerial images of what he said was the crematorium at the Sednaya site.

Researchers say global cyber attack similar to North Korean hacks
SEOUL/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Cybersecurity researchers have found evidence they say could link North Korea with the WannaCry cyber attack that has infected more than 300,000 computers worldwide, as global authorities scrambled to prevent hackers from spreading new versions of the virus.
A researcher from South Korea’s Hauri Labs said on Tuesday their own findings matched those of Symantec and Kaspersky Lab, who said on Monday that some code in an earlier version of the WannaCry software had also appeared in programs used by the Lazarus Group, identified by some researchers as a North Korea-run hacking operation.
“It is similar to North Korea’s backdoor malicious codes,” said Simon Choi, a senior researcher with Hauri who has done extensive research into North Korea’s hacking capabilities and advises South Korean police and National Intelligence Service.
Both Symantec and Kaspersky said it was too early to tell whether North Korea was involved in the attacks, based on the evidence that was published on Twitter by Google security researcher Neel Mehta.
The attacks, which slowed on Monday, are among the fastest-spreading extortion campaigns on record.

Britain’s Labour launches ‘radical, responsible’ election manifesto
LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s opposition Labour Party launched a “radical and responsible” election manifesto on Tuesday, showing a shift to the left to try to capitalize on voters’ concerns over education and health before next month’s vote.
In what its leader Jeremy Corbyn called “a blueprint of what Britain could be”, Labour promised to renationalize rail and mail services and water utilities and take some of the energy sector into public hands to better control prices.

“This manifesto is the first draft of a better future for the people of our country. A blueprint of what Britain could be and a pledge of the difference a Labour government can make,” he told party supporters at a university in northern England.

In the last week, the frenzy of insane, vituperative falsehood from the mainstream media (quick, somebody, think of something else to call them) has crescendoed. I don’t know how long they can keep it up, but however long it is, that’s how long you’ll have to mentally discount it and put it in its place.
The story burst across the Washington Post’s site today that “Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador.”
But, in short, Trump did no such thing. National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, who was at the meeting, says he didn’t. Since WaPo’s editorial position on McMaster has been that he’s a wonderful relief from the hideous nightmare of Michael Flynn, and that he’s a gratifying counterweight to, let’s be clear here, the unspeakable Steve Bannon, WaPo can hardly argue now that McMaster is non-credible on the issue.
Although it doesn’t even matter, because multiple officials have corroborated McMaster in asserting that Trump did not reveal highly classified information, the particulars of the story demonstrate that Trump did not reveal highly classified information. When Chelsea Manning is released from military prison, he will remain in active duty status and be eligible for health care benefits.
Manning, who is widely known for leaking hundreds of thousands of national security documents to WikiLeaks in 2010, will leave Fort Leavenworth on May 17 and be entitled to health care, USA Today reports.
Although Manning initially entered prison as a man named Bradley, he later transitioned to a woman and adopted the name Chelsea in 2013. He attempted suicide multiple times while in confinement and complained of abuse like “routinely forced haircuts.” In 2016, Manning engaged in a hunger strike until the government agreed to provide gender transition treatment.
As one of his last moves before leaving the White House, President Barack Obama commuted Manning’s 35-year sentence, which enraged President-elect Donald Trump.

The United Nations has been serving as an enabler of North Korea’s chemical program, according to an exclusive report by Fox News. “For more than a year,” Fox News reported, “a United Nations agency in Geneva has been helping North Korea prepare an international patent application for production of sodium cyanide — a chemical used to make the nerve gas Tabun — which has been on a list of materials banned from shipment to that country by the U.N. Security Council since 2006.”
The international patent application was filed on November 1, 2015 and published on December 15, 2016.
The international agency involved in this fiasco is the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which apparently neglected to mention the patent application to the appropriate UN bodies involved in monitoring North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction programs and compliance with UN Security Council sanctions resolutions.
The UN’s Panel of Experts on North Korea has claimed ignorance of the patent application, but will investigate. The question, however, is how WIPO could have conceivably let this fall between the cracks in the first place. The answer is rather straight-forward. WIPO, like so many other UN agencies, operates in a silo environment. It focuses solely on its own narrow mission, oblivious to the full implications of what it is doing. References to Pyongyang and sodium cyanide in the same patent application should have set off alarm bells. But instead it was business as usual. North Korea was just another UN member state client of WIPO, which needed technical assistance. Never mind what North Korea would do with the chemical it intended to produce, which is a precursor to a sanctioned nerve agent.

A giant wind turbine blade fell across the A33 autobahn, near Bielefeld, on Tuesday, when it came loose from the transporter carrying it. A truck was damaged in the incident and nearby traffic was brought to a halt.

The individual blades are specifically designed to the maximum length that such a roadway can accommodate them in terms of turning radius and vertical clearance.
Here is an 88.4 m (290 f) wind turbine blade being transported.
Equally mind-bending is the size of these installations. In this case, near near Østerild, Denmark. This tower will produce a whopping 7 MW.
The very biggest being the offshore model Vestas V164 which has an overall height of 220 m (722 ft), a sweep diameter of 164 m (538 ft), and is rated for a capacity of 8 MW. At speed, its blade tips can reach 180 MPH (290 KPH).
What the folks at Greenpeace will never tell you us that, if icing occurs, these blades can lob a chunk of ice for almost a quarter mile. Ornithologists have nicknamed them the “Cuisinart of the Skies” for how they slice and dice migrating birds. There are also investigations underway to see if these massive generators alter weather patterns. Finally, there’s the noise.

Queste non sono, come scritto ieri da qualcuno, «le mani della mafia sulla pelle degli immigrati», anche perché la mafia le mani le ha sempre e ovunque circoli denaro.
Queste sono le mani sugli immigrati della gioiosa macchina dell’accoglienza e delle porte aperte che sull’immigrazione ha intascato, e intasca, centinaia e centinaia di milioni. Cioè di quella lobby cattocomunista che ha bollato di razzismo chiunque – noi per primi – in questi anni ha chiesto regole e paletti, messo in dubbio regolarità e trasparenza dei soccorsi. Queste sono le mani sui migranti di una certa politica al di sopra di ogni sospetto e invece vicina, troppo vicina, a cardinali e ad Angelino Alfano che come ministro degli Interni avrebbe dovuto controllare e vigilare le organizzazioni umanitarie cattoliche come la Misericordia.
Questi sono i responsabili dello scacco allo Stato messo in atto a Capo Rizzuto, nel più grande centro di prima accoglienza del Paese. Poi c’è anche la mafia, che tutto dispone. E nel tempo ha disposto anche di un prete leader dell’accoglienza, Edoardo Scordio e di un politico, Leonardo Sacco, uomo di Dorina Bianchi, parlamentare alfaniana, e legato alla famiglia Alfano (propose anche di affidare uno di questi centri a un parente del ministro che non aveva alcuna competenza specifica).
I verbali di questa inchiesta che ha portato all’arresto di oltre sessanta persone sono un manuale di malaffare e smascherano i presunti angeli dell’accoglienza. Quelli che in tv chiamano i profughi «fratelli migranti» con la faccia contrita ma che al telefono parlano di loro come i «negri da spellare».
La domanda da farsi non è «perché la mafia», ma «perché le confraternite cattoliche», «perché le coop rosse». Cioè perché il sistema solidale si è alleato con le cosche, affamato di soldi e privo di scrupoli come e più di loro. Le cooperative sono parenti stretti dei partiti di centro e di sinistra. E allora forse oggi capiamo perché gli ultimi governi non hanno fermato, anzi hanno agevolato, un flusso migratorio incondizionato: soldi, tanti, maledetti e subito.
Adesso però basta. E si può fare, come dimostra il fatto che a fine mese durante il G7 di Taormina è stato elaborato un piano per vietare gli sbarchi in Sicilia. Trump, Macron e soci non devono essere disturbati o infastiditi durante il loro soggiorno. E noi chi siamo? Opto per un G7 permanente.

Speaking to his party members, Binali Yildirim criticized Germany’s decision to grant asylum to soldiers involved in a failed coup attempt last summer, calling it “a significant development in the regression of our relations again.”
Calling on Germany to choose, Yildirim said, “If it wants to develop its relations with Turkey, further strengthen its historic friendship, then it needs to turn towards the Republic of Turkey” rather than groups Turkey deems terror organizations, including Kurdish militants and the network of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen.
Turkey blames Gulen for orchestrating the coup – a charge he denies.
The asylum decision has already prompted Turkey to block a request for German lawmakers to visit their country’s some 270 troops serving with the coalition against the Islamic State group at Incirlik air base.
The refusal angered Germany, increasing the chances that it will move its Tornado reconnaissance jets and a refueling plane to another country.
“If the Turkish prime minister is demanding of the German government that we should ignore our asylum law and disregard our constitution, I say clearly: we stand by our constitution, we also stand by the asylum law,” Thomas Oppermann, the parliamentary caucus leader of Germany’s junior governing party, told reporters in Berlin. “This is not diplomatically negotiable.”

EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said Tuesday that more than 18,000 migrants have been relocated and that 12,500 people in Greece and some 4,000 in Italy are eligible to go.
He said those 16,500 people can be relocated by September, but he noted that some countries haven’t relocated a single person, “in breach of their obligations.”
Avramopoulos told EU lawmakers that the plan, launched in September 2015, “is vital for the success of our (migrant) policy.”

The federal prosecutor’s office said Tuesday that Muhammad Aafaq I., whose last name wasn’t given in accordance with privacy regulations, joined the group in 2008 to fight against Indian control of the areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Prosecutors say he trained with the group in Pakistan, learning to use weapons like assault rifles and rocket launchers before becoming a trainer of new recruits.
They say he fled the group in 2011 after reports that it was supported by Pakistani intelligence and was fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan, “contradictory to his motivation.”

The dpa news agency reported Tuesday that the court sentenced the man to 11 years in prison.

The defendant came to Germany as an asylum-seeker more than a year ago with his wife and children.
The victims, who were 21 and 27 years old at the time, had been studying at Bochum university.

Palestinians: The Threats Trump Needs to Hear

As U.S. President Donald Trump prepares to hold his second meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem next week, two Palestinian terror groups have announced that the new U.S. administration is planning to “liquidate the Palestinian cause.” The warning by Hamas and Islamic Jihad is directed not only against Trump and his new administration, but also against Abbas and any Arab leader who dares to “collude” with the U.S.
The two Palestinian terror groups, which control the Gaza Strip and its two million residents, also renewed their pledge to pursue the armed fight against Israel; they said they would not give up one inch of Palestine, from the (Mediterranean) sea to the (Jordan) river.
Trump and his administration would do well to heed the warning issued by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, especially in the wake of Abbas’s recent statements concerning a two-state solution and peace with Israel. Abbas controls only parts of the West Bank, and how he intends to establish a Palestinian state when he cannot even set foot in the Gaza Strip is anyone’s guess. Recently, Hamas announced that if and when the 82-year-old Abbas shows up in the Gaza Strip, he will be hanged in a public square on charges of “high treason.”
The warning by the Palestinian terror groups was made during a joint rally in the Gaza Strip on May 14. Leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad vowed to “preserve the Palestinian rifle and Palestinian rights in the face of any schemes and attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause.”
IOM: Upward trend in Mediterranean migrants from Morocco, Bangladesh
Migrants from Morocco and Bangladesh combined to make up more than 7,000 of an estimated 30,000 arrivals to Italy from North Africa so far this year, according to an update released Friday by the International Organization for Migration in Rome.
That’s compared with numbers through April 30 in 2016, when there were less than 1,000 migrants reporting the two countries as their home of nationality. Italian officials recorded only three Bangladeshis leaving Libya through the end of April last year.
“In recent years, an increasing number of Bangladeshi nationals have been rescued at sea in the Central Mediterranean and brought to safety in Italy,” said Federico Soda, Director of IOM’s Coordination Office for the Mediterranean in Rome. “This year, by the end of February, Bangladeshis registered as the fourth highest nationality at landing points in Italy. By the end of April they were the second nationality.”
In interviews, some migrants traveling from Bangladesh said they relied on “agents” who organized their journeys to Libya through Dubai and Turkey. They then had their documents seized by a Libyan who exploited them for about a year before they tried to leave their working conditions. A second group from Bangladesh said they lived in Libya for four years under similar conditions and arrangements.
“The above-mentioned instances and the increasing number of Bangladeshi nationals fleeing Libya, suggests that there is a well-organized, transnational illicit recruitment and exploitation system in place,” Soda said. He added that Libya was a popular destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers before its upheaval, so it is not surprising that it is still possible to recruit workers to go to Libya who then find themselves trapped by their debt and illegal status.
Overall, there have been more than 53,000 migrants arriving in southern Europe this year on the Mediterranean routes. That’s less than 30 percent of the estimated total for the same time period last year – but the reported death totals remain comparable.
There is a minimum estimate of 1,309 fatalities so far this year, almost all of them on the central Mediterranean route, compared with 1,381 at the same time last year.

NYT – Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation
WASHINGTON — President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.
“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.
The existence of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia.
Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. The memo was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence a continuing investigation. An F.B.I. agent’s contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.
Mr. Comey shared the existence of the memo with senior F.B.I. officials and close associates. The New York Times has not viewed a copy of the memo, which is unclassified, but one of Mr. Comey’s associates read parts of the memo to a Times reporter.
“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”
Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey that Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong, according to the memo.
Mr. Comey did not say anything to Mr. Trump about curtailing the investigation, only replying: “I agree he is a good guy.”
In a statement, the White House denied the version of events in the memo.
“While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn,” the statement said. “The president has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies, and all investigations. This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey.”
In testimony to the Senate last week, the acting F.B.I. director, Andrew G. McCabe, said, “There has been no effort to impede our investigation to date.”
Mr. McCabe was referring to the broad investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. The investigation into Mr. Flynn is separate.
A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment.
Mr. Comey created similar memos — including some that are classified — about every phone call and meeting he had with the president, the two people said. It is unclear whether Mr. Comey told the Justice Department about the conversation or his memos.
Mr. Trump fired Mr. Comey last week. Trump administration officials have provided multiple, conflicting accounts of the reasoning behind Mr. Comey’s dismissal. Mr. Trump said in a television interview that one of the reasons was because he believed “this Russia thing” was a “made-up story.”
The Feb. 14 meeting took place just a day after Mr. Flynn was forced out of his job after it was revealed he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of phone conversations he had had with the Russian ambassador to the United States.
Despite the conversation between Mr. Trump and Mr. Comey, the investigation of Mr. Flynn has proceeded. In Virginia, a federal grand jury has issued subpoenas in recent weeks for records related to Mr. Flynn. Part of the Flynn investigation is centered on his financial ties to Russia and Turkey.
Mr. Comey had been in the Oval Office that day with other senior national security officials for a terrorism threat briefing. When the meeting ended, Mr. Trump told those present — including Mr. Pence and Attorney General Jeff Sessions — to leave the room except for Mr. Comey.
Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.
Mr. Trump then turned the discussion to Mr. Flynn.
After writing up a memo that outlined the meeting, Mr. Comey shared it with senior F.B.I. officials. Mr. Comey and his aides perceived Mr. Trump’s comments as an effort to influence the investigation, but they decided that they would try to keep the conversation secret — even from the F.B.I. agents working on the Russia investigation — so the details of the conversation would not affect the investigation.
Mr. Comey was known among his closest advisers to document conversations that he believed would later be called into question, according to two former confidants, who said Mr. Comey was uncomfortable at times with his relationship with Mr. Trump.
Mr. Comey’s recollection has been bolstered in the past by F.B.I. notes. In 2007, he told Congress about a now-famous showdown with senior White House officials over the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. The White House disputed Mr. Comey’s account, but the F.B.I. director at the time, Robert S. Mueller III, kept notes that backed up Mr. Comey’s story.
The White House has repeatedly crossed lines that other administrations have been reluctant to cross when discussing politically charged criminal investigations. Mr. Trump has disparaged the ongoing F.B.I. investigation as a hoax and called for an investigation into his political rivals. His representatives have taken the unusual step of declaring no need for a special prosecutor to investigate the president’s associates.
The Oval Office meeting occurred a little more than two weeks after Mr. Trump summoned Mr. Comey to the White House for a lengthy, one-on-one dinner in the residence. At that dinner, on Jan. 27, Mr. Trump asked Mr. Comey at least two times for a pledge of loyalty — which Mr. Comey declined, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.
In a Twitter posting on Friday, Mr. Trump said that “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”
After the meeting, Mr. Comey’s associates did not believe there was any way to corroborate Mr. Trump’s statements. But Mr. Trump’s suggestion last week that he was keeping tapes has made them wonder whether there are tapes that back up Mr. Comey’s account.
The Jan. 27 dinner came a day after White House officials learned that Mr. Flynn had been interviewed by F.B.I. agents about his phone calls with the Russian ambassador, Sergey I. Kislyak. On Jan. 26, Acting Attorney General Sally Q. Yates told the White House counsel about the interview, and said Mr. Flynn could be subject to blackmail by the Russians because they knew he had lied about the content of the calls.

As we detailed earlier, following the New York Times latest Trump bombshell (see “Comey’s Revenge: Leaks Memo To NYT Saying Trump Asked Him To End Flynn Investigation”), the impeachment word seems to be getting tossed around a little more loosely this evening. And, given the serious accusations levied by former FBI Director James Comey, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Jason Chaffetz, has just promised that he will “get the Comey memo, if it exists,” which was backed up by the not so thinly veiled threat: “I have my subpoena pen ready.”
Meanwhile, in the following Q&A with NBC, Chaffetz says his committee has already started “drafting the necessary paperwork” to get Comey’s memo to the extent it is not handed over voluntarily.
“If the memo exists, I need to see it and I need to see it right away. We are drafting the necessary paperwork to get the mom so we will find out in a hurry if its out there.”
“I want to read the memo first but on the surface that seems like an extraordinary use of influence to try to shutdown an investigation being done by the FBI. I don’t know if it’s true yet but I want to find out if that’s actually out there.”

Trump advance official causes rifts, says Western Wall “not part of Israel”
As President Trump prepares for his first foreign trip as president, there’s a report that a U.S. official caused some strife with Israeli counterparts ahead of his visit to Israel next week.
The Times of Israel reported that the unnamed official told an Israeli official that the Western Wall is “not part of Israel.”
CBS News’ White House Correspondent Major Garrett says that the official was part of the Trump advance team preparing for the president’s visit Israel next week.
The report went on to say that the official rejected a request from an Israeli official that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accompany Mr. Trump when he visited the Western Wall, which would be a major stop on the president’s tour of the region.
The official reportedly retorted that the area was “not your territory” and that “it’s part of the West Bank.”
No sitting U.S. president has ever visited the Western Wall, which is not officially recognized by the international community or by the U.S. as part of Israel, although Israel considers Jerusalem its capital.
The Western Wall, the holiest site of prayer for Jewish, has been contentiously debated since the 1967 Six Day War, after Israel annexed it, along with the rest of the Old City and East Jerusalem. However, Muslims also lay claim to the site. It’s where the Al Aqsa Mosque is located, the third holiest site in Islam.
A senior White House official responded to the report saying that the comments were “not authorized communication” and that they “do not represent the position of the United States” or the president.
Netanyahu’s office released a statement in response to the reports, saying “Israel is convinced that this statement is contrary to the position of President Trump, as expressed in his firm opposition to the most recent U.N. Security Council Resolution.”
Another issue that has come up in advance of Mr. Trump’s visit is the U.S. embassy — during his presidential campaign, he promised to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, though he’s been less vocal about it since taking office.
On Monday, Fox News correspondent Conor Powell tweeted that “Everyone I’ve spoken to in DC that has been briefed on #Jerusalem embassy move says #Netanyahu told #Trump not to move embassy at this time.”
Netanyahu’s office called the claim “false” and released notes from the prime minister’s meeting with Mr. Trump in February, all of which suggested that Netanyahu’s support for moving the embassy.
“5. The embassy — the PM supports moving it,” one note from the Oval Office read. During lunch with the president, “”The PM was asked about the embassy and explained [that moving it] would not lead to bloodshed in the region, as some were trying to intimidate [President Trump] into believing,” read another.
On Monday, Mr. Trump’s newest ambassador to Israel David Friedman paid a visit to the Western Wall to pray upon arriving to his new post.
Mr. Trump had previously said that there was a “very good chance” for peace in the region when he hosted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House last month.
“I will do whatever is necessary to facilitate the agreement, to mediate, to arbitrate, anything they’d like to do — but I’d love to be a mediator, or an arbitrator or a facilitator, and we will get this done,” the president said.
Mr. Trump will also visit Saudi Arabia, the Vatican, and Sicily for NATO G7 meetings as part of his overseas trip.

An “accidental hero” has halted the global spread of the WannaCry ransomware that has wreaked havoc on organizations including the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), FedEx and Telefonica.
Massive ransomware cyber-attack hits nearly 100 countries around the world
A cybersecurity researcher tweeting as @malwaretechblog, with the help of Darien Huss from security firm Proofpoint, found and implemented a “kill switch” in the malicious software that was based on a cyber-weapon stolen from the NSA.
The kill switch was hardcoded into the malware in case the creator wanted to stop it from spreading. This involved a very long nonsensical domain name that the malware makes a request to – just as if it was looking up any website – and if the request comes back and shows that the domain is live, the kill switch takes effect and the malware stops spreading.
