Israel plans mass evacuation if war erupts again
JERUSALEM (AP) — If Islamic militants in Gaza or Lebanon go to war with Israel, they could find their usual targets empty.
Israel is drawing up contingency plans to evacuate up to a quarter-million civilians from border communities to protect them from attacks from Hamas, Hezbollah or other Islamic militant groups.
The mass evacuations would be the biggest in Israel’s history, part of a bigger plan where the army works with municipalities to keep civilians safe.
All sides have been preparing in case a new round of warfare breaks out, although Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed group sworn to Israel’s destruction, currently is tied down in Syria’s civil war fighting in support of President Bashar Assad.
Each side has warned that a new conflict would be worse than previous ones. Hezbollah fired more than 4,000 rockets on Israeli communities in the 2006 war, while Israel bombarded militant targets in southern Lebanon. The month of fighting killed an estimated 1,300 Lebanese, 44 Israeli civilians and 121 Israeli soldiers.
In 2014, 50 days of fighting between Israel and Gaza’s Islamic militant Hamas rulers killed an estimated 2,100 Palestinians, six Israeli civilians and 66 Israeli soldiers. There was widespread devastation in Gaza and thousands of rockets and mortars fired by Hamas and other Islamic militants at Israeli towns and cities.

Erdogan warns Europeans ‘will not walk safely’ if current attitude persists
ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that Europeans across the world would not be able to walk safely on the streets if they kept up their current attitude.
Turkey has been embroiled in a row with Germany and the Netherlands over the barring of campaign appearances by Turkish officials seeking to drum up support for an April referendum on boosting Erdogan’s powers.
“If Europe continues this way, no European in any part of the world can walk safely on the streets. We, as Turkey, call on Europe to respect human rights and democracy,” Erdogan said at event for local journalists in Ankara.

, an outspoken House Republican from Texas, is calling for a congressional investigation of John Podesta’s role with Rusnano, a state-run company founded by Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group has learned.
Podesta — best known as Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign chairman and former President Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff — first made contact with the Russian firm in 2011, when he joined the boards and executive committees of three related entities: Boston-based Joule Unlimited; Rotterdam-based Joule Global Holdings; Joule Global Stichting, the company’s controlling interest. All are high-tech renewable energy enterprises.
Three months after Podesta’s arrival, Joule Unlimited accepted a 1 billion ruble investment from Rusnano, amounting to $35 million in U.S. currency. The firm also awarded a Joule board seat in February 2012 to Anatoly Chubais, Rusnano’s CEO, who has been depicted as a corrupt figure.
Podesta has attempted to downplay his relationship with Joule and Rusnano, but it could come to haunt him.
One potential legal problem for him relates to the time he joined former President Barack Obama’s White House staff in 2014 as a senior counselor and failed to reveal his 2011 Joule stock vesting agreement in his government financial disclosure form.

BREITBART – Public Anger Growing at ‘Taxi’ NGOs Picking Up Migrants From Mediterranean
Politicians and members of the public are growing frustrated with civilian volunteers who rescue migrants in the Mediterranean with some calling them “migrant taxis”.
Iuventa Jugend Rettet is a civilian volunteer organisation from Berlin that rescues migrants who make the dangerous voyage from the North African coast to Italy. More often, the group are finding the public does not support their endeavours and the once large stores of money they used to receive are dwindling, Saarbrücker Zeitung reports.
Some on the internet refer to the group as “human traffickers”, and others have even expressed hope they drown in the sea. “This is mentally extremely problematic for volunteer work,” said spokesman Pauline Schmidt. According to Schmidt, the attitude of Germans to migrants has changed and so has the number of donations, which is rapidly decreasing. “We need 40,000 euros a month to carry out the rescue operations,” she said.
Hans-Peter Buschheuer, spokesman for the NGO Sea-Eye hit out against a recent report from the European Union (EU) border agency Frontex which said that many NGOs are helping people smugglers – unintentionally, and some purposely. </strong“We are definitely not a taxi for refugees,” Buschheuer said.
In December, the EU accused various migrant rescue NGOs like Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders – MSF) of actively working with people smugglers to further an agenda of mass migration and open borders activism in a leaked confidential report. Frontex claimed that migrants were given directions of where to find NGOs ships which hinted at collusion between the groups.
MSF hit back at Frontex and accused the EU of making “the lives of refugees and migrants miserable”.
According to Frontex’s statistics, around 40 per cent of all the migrant rescue operations are conducted by civilian NGOs. Many of the NGOs are based out of Malta including Migrant Offshore Aid Station (Moas). Moas spokesman and co-founder Regina Catrambone says her organisation is also feeling the pinch due to a lack of donations and a populace turning against her work.
Last year, the Mediterranean migrant route from North Africa to Italy saw a record number of migrants crossing into Europe. Since the start of the year, the figure has been even higher than 2016, prompting the EU to meet in Malta earlier to try and resolve the crisis. So far, no solution has been found.

E non è un caso se, con tutti i termini diplomatici di un ammiraglio, anche Enrico Credendino, comandante dell’operazione Sophia per i respingimenti in mare, ha puntato il dito contro le tecniche utilizzate dalle navi umanitarie per abbordare i gommoni e trarre in salvo i disperati.
L’attacco alle navi ong
In una intervista al Corriere, il 54enne ammiraglio che da due anni guida l’operazione Ue Navfor Med, ha confermato che l’aumento dei salvataggi in mare ha avuto (anche) l’effetto negativo di spingere gli scafisti ad incrementare i viaggi della morte. E la “colpa”, se così si può chiamare, non è di Sophia. Ma delle missioni: “Nonostante abbiamo salvato 34mila persone, abbiamo fatto solo l’11,8% dei soccorsi. Ci sono ong che fanno quasi il 40% e attraggono molto più”. Facciamo attenzione alle parole di Credendino, il quale (a ragion veduta) parla di “attrazione di migranti” riferendosi alle missioni umanitarie. Le onlus, spiega infatti, “lavorano spesso al limite delle acque libiche e la sera hanno grossi proiettori: gli scafisti li vedono e mandano il gommone verso questi proiettori”. Avete capito? Gli scafisti se ne stanno sulla spiaggia aspettando che le navi umanitarie accendano i fari notturni e poi fanno partire i barconi carichi di migranti. Tutto molto semplice. Perché indirizzarli verso Lampedusa, se lì vicino c’è una nave umanitaria che li “attrae” a sé? I barconi così devono fare solo poche miglia (visto che le ong operano quasi sempre a poche miglia nautiche dalla costa libica) e gli scafisti raggiungono il massimo risultato col minimo sforzo: possono caricare i gommoni con molti più immigrati e consegnare meno benzina. Un vero e proprio affare.
Le accuse contro le missioni umanitarie
Che Medici senza Frontiere, Croce Rossa e via dicendo siano alacremente impegnate nei salvataggi in mare non è una novità. E la cosa gli fa anche onore: salvare delle vite umane è cosa sempre positiva. Il problema è quando cominciano a fioccare le accuse di essere “colluse” con gli scafisti, di aiutare – di fatto – il business dei trafficanti e di incrementare i viaggi della speranza (e di conseguenza i morti in mare). I radar delle navi dimostrano che le ong arrivano a poche miglia dalle coste libiche, gli stessi scafisti assicurano ai migranti che “tanto ti vengono a salvare quelli delle missioni” e ora si scopre che di notte accendono pure i fari per indicare la strada ai trafficanti.
Qualche dubbio l’ammiraglio Credendino lo ha pure sulle capacità di spesa delle organizzazioni non governative, che con risorse proprie riescono a levare l’àncora per più tempo di quanto non possano permettersi le missioni europee. “Stare in nave 24 ore – spiega l’ammiraglio – è costoso. Alcune navi ong sono avanzate, hanno anche piccoli droni. Sono investimenti importanti”. Una domanda sorge legittima: dove prendono le risorse?

BREITBART – Boat Migrants Landing in Italy ‘at a Pace Exceeding Anything We’ve Seen Before’
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates 20,484 migrants have arrived in Europe by sea since the beginning of 2017, with numbers likely to explode as the continent heads into spring.
These totals do not include 3,312 migrants picked up off Libya on the 19th of March who are currently en route to Italy, according to the text of the IOM’s report.
Including these migrants puts the number of Italian arrivals well ahead of the total for the first three months of 2015 (10,165) and the first three months of 2016 (18,777) – and March 2017 has over a week still to go.
“We have yet to complete March, and we are already racing at a pace of arrivals that has exceeded anything we’ve seen before in the Mediterranean,” IOM spokesman Joel Millman told Reuters.
“This is typical of spring, getting very busy, but it’s not typical to have the numbers be so high this early and the corresponding deaths that go with it.”
Millman estimated that drowning deaths for the period have increased to around 500, up from 159 last year.
The European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) has previously confessed that its own activities, as well as the activities of vessels operated by pro-migration NGOs, seem to be responsible for this rising death toll.
“Dangerous crossings on unseaworthy and overloaded vessels were organised with the main purpose of being detected by EUNAVFOR Med/Frontex and NGO vessels,” the agency reported in its most recent risk analysis.
“Apparently, all parties involved in SAR operations in the Central Mediterranean unintentionally help criminals achieve their objectives at minimum cost, strengthen their business model by increasing the chances of success.”
Total crossings, it should be noted, are down, due to a €6 billion deal with Turkey having persuaded its Islamist government to reduce the number of migrants travelling to Greece via the so-called Aegean route.
These have been rising rapidly in recent days, however, as relations between Turkey and the European Union deteriorate. Turkish interior minister Süleyman Soylu has even threatened to begin sending 15,000 migrants to Europe a month to “blow [its] mind”.
The European approach to the migrant crisis differs sharply from the Australian approach, which sees boats intercepted at sea and either turned back to their country of origin or escorted to offshore processing centres in third countries.
This has acted as a strong disincentive for illegal migrants, and it has now been well over 900 days since the last boat reached Australia.
Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who introduced the policy, has urged EU leaders to follow his country’s lead.
“Effective border protection is not for the squeamish, but it is absolutely necessary to save lives and to preserve nations,” he said. “The truly compassionate thing to do is: stop the boats and stop the deaths.”

FBI officials from Muslim-majority countries, a minority in a predominantly white bureau, say they are subject to an organizational culture of suspicion and hostility that leadership has done little to reform. At least one decorated intelligence analyst has been fired this year after a long ordeal which began with a routine foreign visit to see his family.
His case and others in which Muslim agents have reported a workplace culture that includes open-ended investigations predicated on their backgrounds were brought to the personal attention of the FBI’s director, James Comey, throughout 2016.
Muslim FBI officials are alarmed that their religion and national origin is sufficient for the bureau’s security division to treat them as a counterintelligence risk, a career-damaging obstacle that their native-born white FBI colleagues do not encounter.
They do not dispute a need to vet potential insider threats, but they bristle at what they consider selective enforcement and an inability for those caught in a process based on their heritage to escape suspicion.
Comey has publicly described the bureau’s overwhelming whiteness as a problem for the bureau. But in a communication acquired by the Guardian, the director nevertheless signaled that he sees merit in keeping foreign-born FBI officials under continuous scrutiny.
Comey wrote to a Muslim analyst on 20 October: “We need folks from your background and many others if we are to be effective. Of course, we must also discharge our duty to apply appropriate scrutiny when folks have significant foreign national contacts or contacts of concern with subject [sic] of criminal, counter-intelligence or counter-terrorism cases, by virtual of [sic] family friends or travel. I see that scrutiny applied in a whole lot of contexts, and none of it is based on religion, and it never should be.”

Muslims within the FBI say that their treatment is not only unfair but frays the bureau’s already shaky relationship with the US Muslim community. One recently ousted official believes his firing is a prelude to a wider “purge” of Muslims within the US national security apparatus.
“Before they can go after Muslims in general, they have to purge the US intelligence community,” the analyst, Said “Sam” Barodi, told the Guardian.
Barodi was fired on 1 February 2017 after a year-long investigation that stemmed from what he considered to be a strict adherence to the rules. He refused to confirm his status as a government employee after a US customs official who was following him in a foreign airport blurted it out in a public area near his departure gate.
What Barodi called, in an email to Comey, “the increasing hostility Middle Eastern/Muslim employees face in the FBI” had already been on the director’s radar…”

Regional fire chief Nathanail Rigas says the mosque’s wooden ceiling has been destroyed. Although the blaze was extinguished, firefighters continue efforts to ensure the building’s minaret does not collapse. The mosque is located in the town of Didymoteicho.
Rigas says there is no indication of arson, and that fire investigators will examine the interior when it became feasible to enter the building.”

TWO people have been shot after a machete-wielding attacker ploughed a car into a group of people outside the Parliament building in a London terror incident.
A man with a knife has been seen within the confines of the Palace, eyewitnesses said.
Parliament has been placed on lockdown with MPs locked inside and armed police carrying shields protecting the building.
Reports suggest that 12 people have been injured.
A “police officer has been stabbed” and the “alleged assailant was shot by armed police”, Commons Leader David Lidington has told MPs.
Metropolitan police said they were called to a firearms incident on Westminster Bridge.
“We were called at approx 2:40 pm to reports of an incident at Westminster Bridge. Being treated as a firearms incident – police on scene,” the cops said on Twitter.
Eyewitnesses report hearing a loud bang, then screaming and shooting.
A Downing Street source declined to say where Prime Minister Theresa May was during the attack, but said she had not been involved.
David Lidington told MPs: “The alleged assailant was shot by armed police, an ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualities.
“There are also reports of further violent incidents in the Palace of Westminster but it would be wrong of me to go into further details before confirmation from the police.”

London Terrorist Attack: 4 Dead in Incident Near UK Parliament
LONDON — Four people were confirmed dead Wednesday after Britain’s Parliament was locked down following a “terrorist incident” involving a 4×4 that mowed down pedestrians.
At least 20 others were injured when the vehicle hit people walking on nearby Westminster Bridge before crashing into a railing.
A police officer was also stabbed near the House of Commons. Pictures from the scene showed a junior government minister helping doctors treat the officer.
Authorities later confirmed that the police officer, two civilians and the suspected attacker were dead.
A woman was pulled alive from the River Thames with serious injuries, port officials told NBC News.

51 Brussels Organizations Linked to Terrorism

At least 51 organizations in the Belgian capital Brussels have links to terrorism, according to a government report.
In an effort to clamp down on radical Islam, police conducted house-to-house searches of more than 8,600 residences and 22,668 inhabitants in the district of Molenbeek, which The Guardian referred to as “Europe’s Jihad Central.” A number of high-profile terrorists have been linked to Molenbeek, including the perpetrators of the Bataclan attack in Paris in 2015, in which 130 people were killed.
The raids were carried out over the past year under the Channel Program, which saw 100 new officers and €39 million given to the police to tackle terrorism. The raids led to 72 terrorism suspects being identified, 20 of whom are currently incarcerated in Belgium, 26 are “closely monitored” by authorities and 26 who are in Syria or Iraq.

The first reaction of the U.S. after 9/11 should have been to stop visas from all majority-Muslim countries, except for those of utmost importance. But our politicians’ hands were tied — not by fear of a backlash from Islamic countries, which probably expected a U.S. boycott, but by fear of a backlash from the Western media and Western progressives.
The decision to keep Muslims, refugees and others pouring into the US after 9/11 was wrong and has not done Islam and Muslim reformers a favor. Here is why:
The chaos and bloodshed in the Muslim world, even in the most moderate of Muslim nations, such as Turkey, is between Muslims who want to enforce Islamic sharia law, totally and upon everyone by a theocratic government, and those who want less sharia by installing military rule. The West does not understand that the only form of government that can stand up to a totalitarian Islamic theocracy is a military one and no other. Who could imagine that a military junta could be considered the only savior from Islamic tyrannies that require everyone to live totally, 100%, under the laws of sharia?
When former U.S. President Barack Obama honored the Muslim Brotherhood with his first major speech as president, who were his guests of honor in the first rows? Leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood. The less-radical Islamist military form of governments in the Middle East were left out and thus weakened. Then Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who had a murky relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, got the message. He did not attend. With Obama’s move, the balance of power between the two combative forces over control of government immediately favored the Muslim Brotherhood. It officially, for the first time since its founding in 1928, took control of the Egyptian government after the 2011 chaos of the “Arab Spring.” A year later, 22 million Egyptians had to undergo a bloody counter-revolution to bring back the type of government Egyptians have always favored over an Islamic theocracy.
I’ve read that in nations where the average IQ is below a certain level, democracy is pretty much hopeless. They always end up with a military junta or a dictator of some sort. I can’t remember the source: it was a long time ago, before publishing such an evil, raacisst thing became impossible.
It was an analysis of several African countries for medical professionals, factors to consider in technology transfers that would be appropriate to level of development. The conclusions were speculative, of course, but data-driven.
It took a cold, hard look at post-colonial track records. IQ was one of several factors. Religion wasn’t a separate variable, just subsumed under “sociological” – broad demography.
Too bad, it would’ve been highlighted today, but we can no longer THINK about “appropriate”.

Erdogan’s War on the West

In 2005, the Turkish prime minister at the time, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, along with his Spanish counterpart, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, became the co-chairs of a United Nations-sponsored global effort that went by the fancy name “Alliance of Civilizations.” Twelve years later, Zapatero is a retired politician, the Western world faces different flavors of Islamist-to-jihadist threats and Erdogan is at war with Western civilization.
Erdogan, who was labelled as the most virulent anti-Israeli leader in the world, once likened Israel’s operations in Gaza to Hitler’s: (“Those who condemn Hitler day and night have surpassed Hitler in barbarism.”) Recently, Erdogan said that today’s German practices — presumably Germany’s blocking Turkish politicians speaking at German rallies to support Erdogan’s upcoming referendum in Turkey — are “not different from the Nazi practices of the past.” In another speech, he complained that “Nazism is alive in the West.” For Erdogan, the Dutch are “spineless and ignoble” and “remnants of the Nazi past and fascists;” and the Netherlands, which lost more than 200,000 of its citizens during the German occupation in WWII, is a “banana republic.”
To the European Union, which Turkey theoretically aspires to join, he said: “If there are any Nazis, it is you who are the Nazis”.
Ironically, the Turkish ire against the West, in a recent row between several European capitals and Ankara (over Erdogan’s ambitions to hold political rallies across Europe to address millions of Turkish expats), reveals the unmistakable and deep-rooted anti-Semitism among Erdogan’s fans. Hundreds of Turkish protesters in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam hurled stones at the police and shouted “Allahu akbar” — Arabic for “Allah is the greatest.” Then, some in the crowd, in a protest that was exclusively a dispute between Turkey and the Netherlands, shouted “cancer Jews”.

Seventy years ago, a defeated and devastated Japan, fed and clothed by America, organized itself to put together a new constitution that enshrined the famous “Article 9”:
Little known, but outlined in a recently published book in Japanese, The Special Country, the Japanese constitution was written by a secret group of legal scholars and lawyers, hidden during the war, and then adopted by the administration of General Douglas McArthur as the new Japanese constitution.
Article 9 came about when the Japanese Prime Minister, Kijuro Shidehara, arriving back by train through the utterly destroyed city of Tokyo, went straight from the station to meet with General McArthur and requested that an article be put in the Japanese Constitution forbidding not only a military but war itself.
I disagree with his conclusions. Arms races are terrible, but after 70 years it’s time for a change. Let’s be creative: maybe a different arrangement, grown-up collective responsibility.

The Palestinian Pay-for-Slay System
“I think the Palestinians have to get rid of some of that hate that they’re taught from a very young age,” President Trump said on Feb. 15. “They’re taught tremendous hate. I’ve seen what they’re taught.” Incitement, however, is only part of the picture. To spur knifings, car-rammings, and the like, they use an apparatus of cash incentives as financial rewards for perpetrators of anti-Israel attacks. Payment amounts correlate to the number of people the terrorists manage to victimize – a system that makes terrorism a lucrative career choice for young Palestinians.
The PA pays monthly salaries to terrorists for life if they are men released from prison after five or more years or women after two or more years. Bonuses are paid if the terrorists are Israeli Arabs or Arab residents of Jerusalem. The pay-for-slay system is the work of the PA, generally described as nonviolent and committed to peace. But the theme of PA propaganda is that the only way ultimately for the Palestinian people to maintain their honor and achieve justice is to drive the Jews violently off the land. Hence, the laws promising large financial rewards for terrorism.

–Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s recent remarks that two decades of international diplomacy had failed to halt North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and its missile testing not only made a splash in the Sea of Japan and in the Far East, they were very carefully noted in the Middle East as well.
–For at least two decades now, North Korea has been acting behind the scenes to accelerate the Iranian ballistic missile program and perhaps many other parts of Iran’s military industrial base. The first major Iranian ballistic missile – the Shahab-3 – was widely viewed when it was first tested in 1998 to be a knockoff of the North Korean Nodong missile. The missile became operational in the Iranian armed forces in 2003 and Iran today fields one of the largest missile forces in the Middle East, largely because of the help it received from North Korean engineers.
–Iran also received a missile known as the BM-25 from North Korea. This was originally a Soviet submarine-launched ballistic missile and it came in two models: one was 2,500 km. in range and the second one was 3,500 km. in range.
–This missile, which was reconfigured to be used on land, gave Iran the capability of striking far outside of the Middle East. Indeed, those ranges give Iran the ability to hit as far as the English Channel.
–What Secretary Tillerson did in his visit to Seoul, South Korea, was reassure American allies and warn American adversaries, something that has not been done for a very long time. And by doing so, he helped rebuild security in Northeast Asia. This is exactly the kind of steps the administration should take here in the Middle East and specifically in the Persian Gulf.
–The failure of past international diplomacy over North Korea became apparent when its Agreed Framework with the U.S. collapsed and North Korea went ahead with atomic tests. On October 14, 2006, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1718 condemning North Korean nuclear tests and calling for a moratorium on missile launches. Both the tests and the missile launches continued.
–North Korea has been one of the critical sources for missile technology for the Iranian missile program. The firmer U.S. position on North Korea could thus also contribute to Middle Eastern security.

Israel: Hamas Stealing Turkish Aid Money to Fund Terror
IDF Maj.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai said Tuesday: “The egotistical Hamas terror organization has robbed funds that are meant for the needy of Gaza from international organizations. Hamas prospers at the expense of the residents of the Strip and uses donations meant for them to finance terror. How long will the world and the Gazan people ignore this?”
Hamas routinely plants its operatives in key positions in international organizations, with the purpose of seizing resources and redirecting them for terror activities. Muhammad Faruq Sha’aban Murtaja, arrested by Israel one month ago, is a Gaza building engineer who was planted in the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and served as its branch manager. Murtaja exploited his position in the agency in order to aid Hamas terror activities at the expense of the Palestinian public in Gaza – without the knowledge of the agency’s senior leadership and the Turkish government.
Since 2012, Murtaja diverted to Hamas money and resources intended for civilian projects in Gaza, adding up to millions of dollars. Murtaja fabricated lists of “students” and “needy” that consisted exclusively of Hamas operatives. Murtaja had TIKA fund a $13 million construction project for 20 residential buildings intended for needy residents, but which were built exclusively for members of Hamas’ military wing.
In other projects entitled “Humanitarian Aid for the Gaza Strip,” Murtaja transferred an additional $2 million to the families of Hamas terrorists. During the 2014 Gaza war, he redirected 84,000 packages of food intended for the needy to Hamas terrorists. Hamas is stealing from Gaza’s residents and undermining the international community’s aid efforts.

The Israel Air Force carried out two strikes against Assad regime and Hizbullah targets in Syria on Sunday and Monday. Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman stressed on Sunday that Israel was “neither for nor against [Syrian president Bashar] al-Assad,” and had no desire for friction with the Russians in Syria. Israel’s “main problem is the transfer of game-changing weapons from Syria to Lebanon,” which would reach Hizbullah. “Therefore, every time we identify such a transfer, we will act to destroy these equilibrium-breaking weapons. There will be no compromise.”
Israel felt the need to forcefully redraw its red lines in Syria.

U.S. and Israeli Anti-Terrorist Strategies
WIN THE CLOSE FIGHT
Similar to the way Israel stands against Hamas and Hezbollah, hybrid organizations that combine terrorist, guerrilla and military elements into one entity, the United States is conducting a campaign against Islamic State (ISIS). Although the organization suffered a defeat in the battle for Mosul, it is far from disappearing from the stage.
In an article he wrote in 2014, retired U.S. general Daniel Bolger, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, admitted (with uncommon integrity) that the U.S. “didn’t understand our own forces, which are built for rapid, decisive conventional operations, not lingering, ill-defined counterinsurgencies. We’re made for Desert Storm, not Vietnam.”

Retired colonel Douglas A. Macgregor, a decorated combat veteran, recently told the Senate Armed Services Committee that in order “to terminate future conflicts on terms that favor the United States and avoid long, destructive wars of attrition, the U.S. armed forces must combine the concentration of massive firepower across service lines with the near-simultaneous attack of ground maneuver forces in time and space to achieve decisive effects against opposing forces.”
That statement sounded like it was taken from the IDF strategy published by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot in 2015.

Nunes: Trump transition members were under surveillance during Obama administration
Members of the Donald Trump transition team, possibly including Trump himself, were under U.S. government surveillance following November’s presidential election, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told reporters Wednesday.
Nunes said the surveillance appeared to be legal but that he was concerned because it was not related to the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the election and was widely disseminated across the intelligence community.
“I have seen intelligence reports that clearly show that the president-elect and his team were, I guess, at least monitored,” Nunes told reporters. “It looks to me like it was all legally collected, but it was essentially a lot of information on the president-elect and his transition team and what they were doing.”
Nunes said he is heading to the White House later Wednesday to brief Trump on what he has learned, which he said came from “sources who thought that we should know it.” He said he was trying to get more information by Friday from the FBI, CIA and NSA.
Nunes described the surveillance as most likely being “incidental collection.” This can occur when a person inside the United States communicates with a foreign target of U.S. surveillance. In such cases, the identities of U.S. citizens are supposed to be kept secret — but can be “unmasked” by intelligence officials under certain circumstances.
Nunes said his new information appears to show that additional members of the Trump transition team — beyond former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn — were unmasked. This means they were identified in U.S. intelligence reports.
He said the information that he had seen and was disseminated across the intelligence community appeared to him to have “little or no apparent intelligence value.”
He also said he did not know yet whether the Trump transition team members who were unmasked were communicating from Trump Tower. Earlier this month, Trump claimed in a series of Tweets that former President Barack Obama ordered a wiretap of the phones at Trump Tower — something Nunes reiterated on Wednesday he had no evidence of.
Nunes said he briefed House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on the information on Wednesday morning.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer read from Nunes’ statement during his opening remarks at a press briefing Wednesday, showing how eager Trump’s team was to amplify the remarks.
