    “Famine is looming in four different countries, threatening unprecedented levels of hunger and a global crisis that is already stretching the aid and humanitarian system like never before, experts and insiders warn.

    Tens of millions of people in need of food aid in Yemen, South Sudan, Nigeria and Somalia are at the mercy not only of an overwhelmed aid system but also the protracted, mainly conflict-driven crises in their own countries, the humanitarian leaders say.

    While the generosity of donors has risen sixfold over the past 20 years, unprecedented levels of humanitarian suffering have overtaken financial support. Donor funding reached a record high last year but only half of the requirements were met, according to the UN’s humanitarian chief, Stephen O’Brien.

    Gareth Owen, humanitarian director of Save the Children, said: “The potential this year is we may have four famines looming, which is a truly scary thought and will stretch our resources. We are at a critical moment.”

    Owen, who has 25 years’ experience working in the Horn of Africa, said the situation there bears comparison with Somalia before the famine that killed 260,000 people between 2010 and 2012.

    “Right now, in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, there are 12 million people affected [by food insecurity]. These three countries together look as bad as Somalia in 2011. If you add South Sudan on top of that, with that conflict, and Nigeria, you have millions more. And Yemen has 18 million people. That’s creating this real concern that we are facing a major crisis that we have not seen before.”

    The UN has launched a $2.1bn (£1.6bn) appeal for Yemen this year, its largest ever for the country. It is requesting a record $22.2bn overall in 2017, an increase on the $22.1bn asked for in 2016.

    Mark Goldring, the CEO of Oxfam, said that while he believes the increased donations mean more vulnerable people than ever are being reached, it is no longer enough.

    “If we look back over the last 20 years, funds have increased sixfold, so within that there is a positive story that we are reaching many of the people in need,” said Goldring. “But neither the funding nor the capacity is enough.”….”

    Wilders’ Party for Freedom is polling strongly ahead of the March 15 election for the lower house of Parliament. Mainstream parties, however, have ruled out working in a coalition government with him. That means it would be extremely difficult for Wilders to form a government, since the Dutch electoral system all but guarantees coalitions.

    “If voters make the PVV really big — I’m not talking about two or three extra seats, but really big … they will have to” work with his party, Wilders said in the nationally broadcast interview aired Sunday.

    • The Dems are trying to ignore the majority of the voters in the majority of the states in the US because we aren’t willing to let the Dems destroy the US. Many of the Dutch politicians may take the same short sighted view of the election by deciding they can ignore the voters. They have been warned not to do this but most leftist are so arrogant they think nothing bad can ever happen to them.

    Public service broadcasters are making every effort to fulfill their governmental mandate since the situation can no longer be denied at least since the events in Cologne and yet they can still relavitize the causes. Not even the figures mentioned in the report are correct. Anyone who is interested and has a real look at the statistics will be confronted with the reality of the very massive criminal problem in Germany – this is without considering the unreported/non-documented cases.

  13. Freedom granted to man who beheaded bus passenger in Canada

    WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — A Canadian man who was found not criminally responsible for beheading and cannibalizing a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus has been granted his freedom.

    Manitoba’s Criminal Code Review Board announced Friday it has given Will Baker, formerly known as Vince Li, an absolute discharge, meaning he is no longer subject to monitoring.

    Baker, a diagnosed schizophrenic, killed Tim McLean, a young carnival worker who was a complete stranger to Baker, in 2008. A year later he was found not criminally responsible due to mental illness.

    McLean’s mother, Carol de Delley, has been outspoken against granting Baker freedom, saying there would be no way to ensure he continued to take his medication.

    She declined comment in a post on Facebook Friday, saying “I have no words.”

  14. Tsipras hits back at IMF, Germany over debt impasse

    Athens (AFP) – Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Saturday warned the International Monetary Fund and EU economic powerhouse Germany to stop playing with fire over his country’s debt problems.

    Opening a meeting of his far-left Syriza party, Tsipras said he was confident a solution over repayments would be found, despite talks between Greece and its creditors ending in Brussels with no breakthrough on Friday.

    Months of feuding with the IMF has rattled markets and raised fears of a new debt crisis, with Athens resisting pressure to cut public services any more than has already been agreed with creditors.

    The Greek premier urged a change of course from the IMF.

    “We expect as soon as possible that the IMF revise its forecast.. so that discussions can continue at the technical level,” he said.

    And referring to Germany’s Wolfgang Schaeuble, Tsipras called for Chancellor Angela Merkel to “encourage her finance minister to end his permanent aggressiveness” towards Greece and “stop playing with fire”.

    For the first time since Oroville Dam was completed in 1968, water from its storm-swollen reservoir overtopped the emergency spillway Saturday, sending sheets of water down a forested hillside and adding to the murk and debris churning in the Feather River below.

    State officials said they did not expect the flows to cause flooding in Oroville or other communities downstream, but the emergency releases underscored the perilous situation confronting the operators of California’s second-largest reservoir for the rest of this extraordinarily rainy winter.

    Unable to release enough water from the dam’s 3,000-foot main spillway, which split open Tuesday and continues to erode, the California Department of Water Resources announced that stormwaters reached the top of the dam at around 8 a.m Saturday and began flowing over the concrete lip of the adjacent emergency spillway onto a wooded ravine below.

    The flow began as a steady, smooth spill across the 1,700-foot-wide lip of the emergency structure, and was expected to peak at 6,000 to 12,000 cubic feet of water per second at around midnight Saturday. With dry weather in the near-term forecast for the Sierra and inflows to the reservoir slowing, the lake level should fall below the emergency spillway as of Monday night, said Doug Carlson, a DWR spokesman.

    These days, when I see a sustained media pile-on against someone, I’m made immediately doubtful about the intentions of the media.

    The media could allay those doubts by reporting things that might, at some point, be independently verifiable.

    But in the case of the innuendo assault against National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, the media have yet to do that.

    Over at Hot Air, Allahpundit has laid out an extensive recounting and analysis of the hearsay-brief being built against Flynn by the Washington Post. WaPo keeps being the original media source of anything that might be called “substantive” alleged against Flynn, which right off the bat is a red flag. There are other allegations about personality clashes and he said-she said stuff behind the scenes, coming from other news outlets (the New York Times has had a report or two). But those aren’t substantive. They’re filler. You might as well read a slam-book and use it to form moral judgments about a seventh-grader.

    I think Allahpundit is very right about this point: the knives are out somewhere for Mike Flynn.

    I’m beginning to think that there might be something to this “rape culture” thing that progressives keep talking about. Testifying to its existence is “No Favors,” a recent song by rapper Big Sean featuring Detroit’s most renowned bad boy, Eminem. The track is notable for its grisly lyrics including what sounds like Eminem fantasizing about raping conservative pundit Ann Coulter with various household objects.

    It’s bad enough that there are people in this world like Eminem, who entertain dark rape fantasies. What’s more disturbing is that the guy who spun these vile lyrics also practiced them for hours before committing them to an audio track that he knew would be heard by millions of people. Worse yet is that no one stopped him — not Big Sean, not the album’s producer, not GOOD Records owner Kanye West, not even the execs at GOOD’s parent company, Universal Music Group.

    West and his higher-ups could have tossed that whole track in the garbage if they had wanted to, but they didn’t. It’s not as if musicians have absolute artistic license in the studio. As long as the record company is producing and promoting the final product, performers are little more than glorified employees. So how did “No Favors” ever see the light of day? Eminem’s accomplices must have been at least ambivalent toward, if not supportive of, the heinous lyrics.

    In his dystopian classic, The Managerial Revolution (1941), the American political scientist James Burnham coined the concept of “controlled democracy“. According to Burnham, the civil democracies of the second half of the 20th century would – more or less gradually – be overgrown with backroom bureaucratic networks that make the actual decisions, all far away from the electorate and public debate.

    While this would slowly but surely erode the democratic mandate of governments, Burnham explicitly didn’t expect that this would lead to the dissolution of the European nation state – in name, that is.

    On 12 February the House of Commons International Development Committee published her Seventh Special Report of its 2016-2017 session. It describes the Committee’s investigation of the Mail on Sunday‘s reports on attempts at corrupting a UK government enquiry into Adam Smith International‘s activities, by forging supportive statements.

    “Bosses at Adam Smith International (ASI) organised the sending of supportive statements to a powerful MPs’ committee investigating the vast profits made by so-called ‘poverty barons’ on the back of Britain’s huge foreign aid spending. They passed them off as independent submissions from senior foreign politicians and officials – but they were drafted by the firm’s staff.”

    The article, quoted in the Special Report to “have used leaked internal ASI emails to claim that ASI had aimed to ‘deceive MPs and protect their lucrative business by faking glowing testimonials about their work overseas’,” was duly taken as a reason to launch an investigation, with the Special Report “summarising the processes, findings and conclusions of the investigation.”

    ASI is mentioned as being thorough in its investigation, providing detailed information and evidence as requested, while safeguarding the veracity of the information. The Committee concludes that ASI recognised the “seriousness of the allegations” and has been transparent about the outcome of its findings. These findings suggest to the Committee, that in response to a request from the Department for International Development (DFID), ASI requested and received submissions from beneficiaries, as to the role ASI played in their activities.     With their anti-Western beliefs, Dutch immigrant party DENK basically embodies the fear of Dutch citizens ever since mass-immigration into Dutch society started. And behind the scenes, it now turns out the Turkish government is actively aiding the DENK party.

    Sefa Yürükel and vice-president Mustafa Cingoz of the Turkish Council in the Netherlands claim that Turkey is paying Sunni Imams to spread SOS-messages toward Turkish-Dutch citizens to vote for Dutch immigrant party DENK during the upcoming Dutch elections on march 15.

    Intercepted texts read:

    “everyone who feels like a second class citizen (…) vote for DENK on march 15 (…) our only hope (…) do it for your children (…) 52% of Christians and almost 2 million others hate you and want to deport you.”

    Also, Dutch policies are being attacked. The cutting on social welfare for people living in Turkey and Morocco is being called “a robbery”, and it is “ridiculous and discriminatory” that Dutch Deputy Prime Minister Asscher (Labour) should increase the payment of Jews living in Palestinian territories.

  22. Tennessee substitute teacher: ‘The only good Trump supporter is a dead Trump supporter’

    RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — Rutherford County Schools said a substitute teacher will no longer be working in the school district after he was accused of posting “inappropriate, threatening” comments on social media regarding President Donald Trump.

    Rutherford County Schools received several messages about David Colin on Wednesday. Colin is accused of posting on Facebook, “the only good Trump supporter is a dead Trump supporter,” on Facebook Nov. 9 at 9:29 a.m.

    Colin is not employed by RCS, but is contracted through PESG. The schools said Colin is no longer permitted to work in the district.

  23. Report: 72 convicted of terrorism from ‘Trump 7’ mostly Muslim countries

    Since 9/11, 72 individuals from the seven mostly Muslim countries covered by President Trump’s “extreme vetting” executive order have been convicted of terrorism, bolstering the administration’s immigration ban.

    According to a report out Saturday, at least 17 claimed to be refugees from those nations, three came in as “students,” and 25 eventually became U.S. citizens.

    The Center for Immigration Studies calculated the numbers of convicted terrorists from the Trump Seven:

    — Somalia: 20

    — Yemen: 19

    — Iraq: 19

    — Syria: 7

    — Iran: 4

    — Libya: 2

    — Sudan: 1

    The Center’s director of policy studies, Jessica M. Vaughan, based her blockbuster report on a 2016 report from the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, then chaired by new Attorney General Jeff Sessions, that report found that 380 out of 580 people convicted in terror cases since 9/11 were foreign-born.

      A review of information compiled by a Senate committee in 2016 reveals that 72 individuals from the seven countries covered in President Trump’s vetting executive order have been convicted in terror cases since the 9/11 attacks. These facts stand in stark contrast to the assertions by the Ninth Circuit judges who have blocked the president’s order on the basis that there is no evidence showing a risk to the United States in allowing aliens from these seven terror-associated countries to come in.

      In June 2016 the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, then chaired by new Attorney General Jeff Sessions, released a report on individuals convicted in terror cases since 9/11. Using open sources (because the Obama administration refused to provide government records), the report found that 380 out of 580 people convicted in terror cases since 9/11 were foreign-born. The report is no longer available on the Senate website, but a summary published by Fox News is available here.

      The Center has obtained a copy of the information compiled by the subcommittee. The information compiled includes names of offenders, dates of conviction, terror group affiliation, federal criminal charges, sentence imposed, state of residence, and immigration history.

      The Center has extracted information on 72 individuals named in the Senate report whose country of origin is one of the seven terror-associated countries included in the vetting executive order: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The Senate researchers were not able to obtain complete information on each convicted terrorist, so it is possible that more of the convicted terrorists are from these countries.

    Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said that President Donald Trump’s 90-day ban on immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries is “a religiously based ban,” and “if they can ban Muslims, why can’t they ban Mormons.” This has become the position of the Democratic Party and the mainstream media, which has influenced not only the American public but has convinced the majority of the world that America is “bad.” How can we blame the world, and even a good segment of American citizens, for hating America when such disingenuous and misleading claims are aired to the world from US officials and broadcast by American television channels?

    The majority of the world does not understand that much of the American media is in a propaganda war against the Trump Administration simply because he names Islamic jihad and would prefer to see a strong and prosperous America as a world leader, rather than to see a dictatorship — secular or theocratic — as a world leader. He ran as a Republican; meanwhile, Democrats and the mainstream media refuse to engage in respectful and legitimate debate on the most vital threat to Western civilization in the twenty-first century: Islam. Truth has become irrelevant; people seem to prefer a political game of tug-of-war to sway public opinion against the Trump Administration, and, presumably, to elect Democrats forever.     Riyadh (AFP) – “Islamophobia” in parts of the world is fuelling terrorism, the head of the United Nations said on a visit to Saudi Arabia Sunday, as anti-immigrant sentiment rises in some countries.

    UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made the comment to reporters after talks with Saudi King Salman, Crown Prince and Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef, and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

    “One of the things that fuel terrorism is the expression in some parts of the world of Islamophobic feelings and Islamophobic policies and Islamophobic hate speeches,” Guterres said at a joint news conference with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir.

    “This is sometimes the best support that Daesh can have to make its own propaganda,” Guterres said, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group of Sunni extremists in Syria and Iraq.

    The jihadist group has also claimed deadly attacks in Saudi Arabia and in Europe.

    Anti-immigration politicians including France’s Marine Le Pen have seen their popularity rise after an influx to Europe of migrants, many of them Muslims fleeing wars in Syria and elsewhere.

    US President Donald Trump issued an order in late January that denied entry to all refugees for 120 days.

    It also blocked travellers from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days. Refugees from Syria were blocked indefinitely.

    But the order has faced obstacles and on Thursday an appellate court decided unanimously to maintain a block on Trump’s order.

    Syria’s conflict has created 4.8 million refugees and killed more than 310,000 people since it began with anti-government protests in March 2011.

    Guterres said “we will never be successful in fighting terrorism in Syria if an inclusive political solution is not found for the Syrian people.”

    A new round of UN-sponsored peace talks is scheduled for February 20 in Geneva.

    Guterres arrived in Saudi Arabia from Turkey and is to be in Dubai on Monday for the World Government Summit during his regional tour.

    An Adana court on Feb. 10 ordered the arrest of the suspects on charges of being members of a terror organization.

    During their interrogation, police also confiscated digital materials belonging to the suspects, including several pictures showing military camouflage and Kalashnikov rifles believed to have been taken with ISIL militants in Syria.

    The two suspects reportedly pleaded not guilty, claiming that the pictures were intended to be souvenirs of their time in Syria.

    The suspects were reportedly planning to cross into Europe via Greece with fake identities and passports.

    They were reportedly in senior roles in ISIL, with Laban providing cash flow to the group from Europe and Saleh providing ammunition and weapon supplies.

    After a wider interrogation, it has also been revealed that the suspects received intensive arms and explosive training in Syria over the past three months.

    Some 49 high-level terrorist group leaders were caught, while 689 terrorists were killed, he said.

    Some 3,609 people have been detained in operations conducted by police, gendarmerie and coast guards across Turkey, security sources said Feb. 11.

    The Afghan security forces also seized several weapons, ammunition, and explosives during the operations, including a number of the Improvised Explosive Device.

    Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the some remote districts of the province have been witnessing instability during the recent years.

    President Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday the final goal of a Turkish incursion into Syria was not just to retake the city of al-Bab from Islamic State, but to cleanse a border region including Raqqa of the jihadists.

    Turkish-backed Syrian rebels are pressing a major offensive on al-Bab, 30 km (20 miles) south of the Turkish border. The advance risks putting them in direct conflict with Syrian government forces who are closing in on the city from the south.

    “The ultimate goal is to cleanse a 5,000-square-km area,” Erdogan told a news conference before his departure on an official visit to Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

    He said Turkish forces had no intention of staying in Syria once the area had been cleared of both Islamic State and Kurdish YPG militia fighters, whom Turkey sees as a hostile force.

    The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based war monitor, said rebels backed by heavy Turkish air strikes fought Islamic State north and southwest of al-Bab on Sunday.

    Turkish forces have advanced into the city from the west in recent days, and now control around 10 percent of the city and all of its western suburbs, the Observatory said.

    Syrian government forces and allied militia have also made gains south of al-Bab, near the town of Tadef, since Friday, reaching an area 1.5 km from the city, it said.

    Turkey believes recent IS attacks in Turkey, including a New Year’s Day shooting in an Istanbul nightclub that killed 39 people, have been steered from al-Bab and Raqqa, and it regards a clear-out of the towns as a national security priority.

    Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said last week that Turkey had presented a detailed plan to oust Islamic State from Raqqa and that strategy discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration were under way.

    Turkey has repeatedly said it wants to be part of the U.S.-led operation to retake Raqqa, but does not want the YPG, which has been backed by Washington, to be involved.
