    http://www.thelocal.fr/20170209/french-nuclear-hit-by-explosion
The explosion occurred on Thursday at 10am in the engine room of the Flamanville nuclear power plant on the Normandy coast. Three people were left injured, according to initial reports by Ouest-France newspaper. “It is a significant technical event but it is not a nuclear accident,” senior local official Olivier Marmion told AFP. An emergency intervention plan, designed to protect local residents in case of a leak, has not been triggered because authorities say there is no risk of any contamination. Firefighters said an explosion and a fire were reported in the heart of the plant, outside the nuclear zone. However the plant “did not explode in a fireball” as was falsely reported by some British tabloids.

    • If the explosion occurred in the engine room there is no radioactive material to leak, it would have to be in the reactor vessel for radioactive materiel to be involved.

      https://www.google.com/search?q=diagram+of+nuclear+power+plants&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi0x6Ldq4PSAhXsy1QKHZZKBY8QsAQIHg&biw=1600&bih=760

The radioactive material is contained in the reactor vessel and the non radioactive water is what drives the turbine that generates the electricity.

FYI the reactor is the dome shaped or square building (the shape depends on the design) the big tower there is the cooling tower for the non radioactive water. When the steam droplets get too large they are shunted aside, cooled and reheated. If this isn’t done the turbine blades are damaged.

    • That wasn’t anywhere near the reactor, I use to work as project accountant-cost accountant for a company that supplied HVAC parts to nuclear reactors and have toured several but before and after they were operational.

  3. Richard: Anyone what to bet this study applies to all western nations?

Most Government Workers Could Be Replaced By Robots, New Study Finds

A study by a British think tank, Reform, says that 90% of British civil service workers have jobs so pointless, they could easily be replaced by robots, saving the government around $8 billion per year.

The study, published this week, says that robots are “more efficient” at collecting data, processing paperwork, and doing the routine tasks that now fall to low-level government employees. Even nurses and doctors, who are government employees in the UK, could be relieved of some duties by mechanical assistants.

There are “few complex roles” in civil service, it seems, that require a human being to handle.

Robots ‘could replace 250,000 UK public sector workers’

Reform thinktank says sector could be ‘the next Uber’ and staff should embrace the gig economy amid rise in automation

Almost 250,000 public sector workers could lose their jobs to robots over the next 15 years, according to a new report which claims machines would be more efficient and save billions of pounds.

Reform, a right-of-centre thinktank, says websites and artificial intelligence “chat bots” could replace up to 90% of Whitehall’s administrators, as well as tens of thousands in the NHS and GPs’ surgeries, by 2030 – saving as much as £4bn a year.

Even nurses and doctors could fall victim to the march of the machines, which the report says can outperform humans at some diagnoses and routine surgical procedures, and are more efficient at collecting information.

The report argues that public services should become more flexible by embracing a gig economy where workers support themselves through a variety of flexible jobs acquired through online platforms.

In remarks that seem set to infuriate unions, a Reform press release says: “Public services can become the next Uber, using the gig economy to employ locum doctors and supply teachers.”

  5. Investigators Probing Plane That Got Too Close to Air Force One, Sources Say

U.S. aviation investigators are probing an incident in which a private plane and President Donald Trump’s aircraft flew closer than was permitted, three people familiar with the event said.

The two aircraft got to about 2 nautical miles from each other over Florida on Feb. 3. Planes under the supervision of air-traffic controllers are supposed to stay at least 3 nautical miles from each other near airports and as far as 5 nautical miles apart at higher altitudes.

The people, who asked not to be named because they weren’t authorized to talk about the case, said that there was no risk of collision as the planes were flying on parallel courses.

When the president is flying around the country, a number of special safety and security provisions are enacted. FAA air-traffic supervisors pay closer attention and Secret Service officials also monitor the airspace for possible threats. In many cases, other flights are halted or diverted to create extra space around Air Force One.

RIO DE JANEIRO — At least 90 people are reported dead in a wave of violence in the Brazilian city of Vitoria after the police force there went on strike.

The number of registered murders had risen to 90 since military police stopped patrols on Saturday, Globo reported, citing figures received from a police union.

The mood in the southeastern state of Espirito Santo remained tense Wednesday as armed forces continued patrolling the streets for the fifth straight day.

Paris plans to build a barrier around the Eiffel Tower to limit the risk of terrorism.

The city is setting aside 20 million euros ($21.3 million) for the project and will evaluate proposals with consideration for their aesthetics.

The idea is to have a “permanent and aesthetic barrier,” said Jean-Francois Martins, a city official. “Sadly the risk of terrorism hasn’t gone away,” he said.

  8. Trump Calls World Leaders… But China’s Xi Gets a Letter

Vladimir Putin, Enrique Pena Nieto and Recep Tayyip Erdogan are among the leaders who have had phone conversations with Donald Trump since he took office. The president of the world’s second-biggest economy? Just a letter.

The U.S. president sent a note to Xi Jinping in his first direct communication since he took office, saying he was seeking smoother ties. He thanked Xi for a congratulatory letter and wished the Chinese people a happy Year of the Rooster, according to White House spokesman Sean Spicer.

“President Trump stated that he looks forward to working with President Xi to develop a constructive relationship that benefits both the United States and China,” Spicer said in a statement Wednesday night. Trump, who has spoken with more than a dozen heads of state since taking office, is scheduled to speak on Thursday with the leaders of Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq.

  9. Little data to support claim that sanctuary-city policies help police

The oft-repeated claim that local enforcement of immigration law scares victims from reporting crime may be more of an urban legend than a hard reality, relying more on feelings than data.

Rather than exposing such victims to possible deportation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement allows fast-track visa approval for those who report violent crimes. The annual cap of 10,000 U Visas has been reached each year since 2009.

In that time, 76,230 victims were granted visas, along with 59,427 family members.

In the most comprehensive study to date, the University of Virginia and the Police Executive Research Forum tested the theory that tighter police policies result in lower crime reporting and greater victimization among immigrants.

The 200-page analysis examined in 2009 the crime-reporting patterns before and after police in Virginia’s Prince William County began working more closely with federal immigration agencies.

“They found no decline in crime reporting by Hispanics after the county implemented a policy to screen all offenders for legal status and referring to ICE,” A.J. Louderback, sheriff of Texas’ Jackson County and a law-enforcement adviser to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, told Watchdog.org.

“Hungary is ready to build a second line fencing on its southern border to keep out migrants if the situation worsens this year or next, Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s chief of staff said on Thursday.

Janos Lazar also told a news conference that the government plans to set up container camps on the southern border, where it wants to detain migrants while their asylum requests are being assessed.

He said there were close to 600 migrants in Hungary waiting for their asylum application to be processed, mostly in open camps, which posed a “security risk”, and the aim was to restrict them in their movement, keeping them on the border.”

“A Kenyan court ruled Thursday against government plans to close one of the world’s largest refugee camps, which officials claimed also serves as a foothold and recruiting ground for Islamist militants.

The court’s decision offers some breathing room to the mostly Somali refugees in the sprawling Dadaab camp, which holds hundreds of thousands of people fleeing unrest in Somalia.

It also could force Kenyan authorities to draft another strategy for dealing with the camp, which the government claims is infiltrated by Islamist militant groups such as al-Shabab. Human rights groups and others have denounced Kenya’s plans, saying it would put refugees’ lives at risk by sending them back…”

  12. Members of UK Sex Grooming Gang Face Deportation to Pakistan (abcnews, Feb 9, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/members-uk-sex-grooming-gang-face-deportation-pakistan-45368591

“Four men convicted of grooming girls for sex in a case that fueled racial tensions in Britain face deportation to Pakistan after a judge on Thursday upheld a government decision to strip them of British citizenship.

The ruling by an immigration tribunal clears the way for the men, all of Pakistani nationality, to be removed from Britain. They acquired British citizenship by naturalization.

They were among nine men of Pakistani and Afghan descent convicted of luring girls as young as 13 into sexual encounters using alcohol and drugs. They were based in Rochdale, in northern England.

Among the four facing deportation is ringleader Shabir Ahmed, sentenced in 2012 to 22 years in jail. The other three are Adil Khan, Qari Abdul Rauf and Abdul Aziz.

Ahmed, who was convicted of rape as well as other charges, remains in custody, while the other three men have been released on license to serve their sentences outside of jail.

Khan, Rauf and Aziz were convicted on conspiracy and trafficking for sexual exploitation charges. Aziz was not convicted of having sexual intercourse with any child.

The judge at the hearing in the upper tribunal of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber, Mr Justice Bernard McCloskey, described their crimes as “shocking, brutal and repulsive.”

His decision rejected claims concerning human rights laws and a complaint of “disproportionate interference” with their rights.

The case centers on a decision by Prime Minister Theresa May, when she was home secretary, to strip the men’s citizenship “for the public good.”

The five victims of the gang who gave evidence in the 2012 trial were all white, and spoke of being raped, assaulted and traded for sex, being passed from man to man, and sometimes being too drunk to stop the abuses.

The men, ranging in age from 22 to 59, used various defenses, including claiming the girls were prostitutes.

The decision on Thursday was the first step in what could be a drawn-out process, and the Home Office must fulfill a number of steps before the men can be lawfully deported. The four men can apply for permission to appeal the judge’s decision.

McCloskey told the hearing that the road to removing the men from Britain “involved all of the formalities, procedures, rights and protections which decisions of this kind entail.”

Rochdale lawmaker Simon Danczuk said the four men who appeared at the tribunal on Thursday should be deported to Pakistan as soon as possible.

“Foreign-born criminals should not be able to hide behind human rights laws to avoid deportation,” Danczuk said.”

    • … the other three men have been released on license to serve their sentences outside of jail.

      WTF?!?!?

Allowing convicted felonious sexual predators to serve house arrest?!?

What a mockery of justice for the British people. After all, everybody knows that none of the abused little girls were Pakistani.

“Police detained four Islamic State suspects who were allegedly planning to carry out a “sensational” attack in Turkey and seized 24 suicide attack belts, officials said Thursday.

The latest detentions came as CIA chief Mike Pompeo arrived in Turkey to discuss the fight against the extremist group in Syria and Iraq, making his first overseas trip since taking office.

The suspects were put under custody in an anti-terror operation in Gaziantep, near the border with Syria, according to Gaziantep provincial governor’s office. Police found the suicide belts — made with 150 kilograms of explosives and fortified with metal pieces — as well as two automatic rifles, 14 kilograms (31 pounds) of TNT and other materials during the operation, it said…”

  14. ‘Why do Muslims flee to Christian countries?’ Katie Hopkins on Islam and Trump travel ban (express, Feb 9, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/764810/katie-hopkins-donald-trump-travel-ban-muslims-fleeing-christian-countries?

“KATIE HOPKINS has defended Donald Trump’s travel ban and questioned why those in Muslim countries were “fleeing to Christian countries”.

The former Apprentice contestant blasted the critics of the US leader’s controversial order to temporarily bar citizens and refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

The commentator sided with President Trump on Fox News after the ban was halted and it was debated by an appeals court.

“I’m with Trump all the way and I think one of the interesting things here [the UK] is the amount of support amongst the Muslim community as well [that] we don’t really hear about very much.

“But they can see what he’s trying to do, he’s trying to say ‘I will defend our borders, I will give America strong borders’ and that’s something we can really relate to.”

Hopkins said it was the Islam being a “divisive religion” which led those in the Muslim world wanting to “flea” to the West.

She said: “One of the questions I’ve been asking in my column and on the radio is if Islam’s so fantastic why is it that Muslims always seem to want to come and flee to Christian countries?

“And it’s a question that doesn’t get asked a lot but it’s one that’s an interesting question to ask.

“And a lot of Muslims have been saying it’s because Islam is such a divisive religion, so I think we understand the travel ban.”

Hopkins then compared the US court hearing to the Article 50 case in the UK after saying Doanld Trump’s travel ban was “reassuring”.

“I think if you look at western Europe, you look at Nice, you look at Brussels, you look at the chaos that’s being caused by terrorists – it’s reassuring to see someone finally trying to do something about it.

“And I think he’s being frustrated in the courts in the same way that we had Brexit… when they tried to tell us we couldn’t have what we voted for.””

“A BBC boss has pledged to banish ‘elitism’ from the broadcaster’s programmes.

The Corporation’s radio chief James Purnell, a former Labour cabinet minister, said it would no longer ‘dispense culture from on high’ – instead taking the position of a ‘thoughtful friend’ in a bid to broaden its appeal to viewers and listeners.

The move will see the remaking of Kenneth Clark’s popular Civilisation series to move away from the idea of audiences being dictated to by a single expert.

  16. ‘I hope you don’t get raped’: Outrage at far-right activist’s shocking rant on Channel 4 News after he gave her a form to adopt a Syrian refugee (dailymail, Feb 9, 2017)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4206326/Outrage-far-right-activist-s-shocking-rant-Channel-4.html

“A far-right activist’s shocking rant on Channel 4 News has caused outrage among viewers.
Former BNP member Jack Buckby told student Barbara Ntumy ‘I hope you don’t get raped’ while debating the issue of whether Britain should allow more Syrian refugees into the country.

The activist, who stood in the by-election for murdered MP Jo Cox’s seat last year, was discussing the ‘alt-right’ with the member of the National Union of Students Black Students’ Campaign.

Buckby produced a refugee application form and said: ‘You know what, put your money where your mouth is – Syrian refugees application form.

‘Take one home, take in a Syrian refugee. I hope you don’t get raped.’

Let’s see. Buckby expressed the hope that Ntumy wouldn’t raped by someone from a group that already established their credentials as some of Europe’s premier sexual predators. What’s so outrageous about that?

Far more ridiculous is the poutrage over someone finally demanding that one of these hand-wringing Liberal wankers, “put your money where your mouth is”. Any bets on how long Ntumy would remain unmolested by her new Syrian flatmate once the sun went down?

  18. Radical Islam is spreading across Belgium, Salafists preach via TV & online media – report (RT, Feb 9, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/news/376779-belgium-radical-islam-rising/

“Salafism is advancing in Belgium, a leaked report from the country’s coordination body for threat assessment says, adding that Wahhabi TV stations and online media operate freely while radical literature can be found in most Islamic bookshops.

The report by the Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (OCAM), a special body which works in cooperation with security and intelligence agencies to assess the level of terrorist threat in Belgium, was leaked by De Standaard newspaper on Wednesday.

“An increasing number of mosques and Islamic centers in Belgium are controlled by the Wahhabism,” the document states.

Wahhabism, a strict form of Islam promoted inside Saudi Arabia as well as through government programs abroad, has indirectly encouraged the rise of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). It is sometimes considered the true Salafist movement, and calls for a return to the original “purity” of Islam.

The movement’s tenets include the supremacy of Sharia law, the idea of violent jihad, and takfirism, which encourages the killing of Muslims considered heretics for not following its interpretation of Islam.

The Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (OCAM) calls Wahhabism “one-dimensional Islam,” adding that it is “spreading in the Muslim world, including Muslim minorities in the West.” According to the report, many Sunni Muslims consider Wahhabi principles to be the norm these days.

Wahhabi supporters try “to turn away Muslims from West European values and standards,” which they perceive as being contrary to the teachings of the Koran, according to OCAM.

De Standaard, which read the report, says that Wahhabi imams regularly preach in Belgian mosques and many mosques are strictly Wahhabist, particularly in the cities of in Brussels, Antwerp, and Mechelen. There are even Wahhabi TV channels and online media, according to the report.

“Most Islamic bookshops and online stores in Belgium offer exclusively Wahabist, Salafist [content] printed in Arabic or in translation.”

Thus, “a moderate imam in his mosque” can do nothing about this “media violence,” the report concludes…”

  19. ‘We will not close doors’: EU foreign affairs chief says aging Europe needs migration (RT, Feb 9, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/news/376817-europe-needs-immigration-mogherini/

Aging and graying Europe won’t close its doors to asylum seekers, as it needs immigration, the EU’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said, adding that Europeans had been migrants themselves “up to few years ago.”

“I believe Europeans should understand that we need migration for our economies and for our welfare systems, with the current demographic trend we have to be sustainable,” Mogherini said.

Mogherini, who was speaking at the Senior Officials Meeting at the Valletta Joint Action Plan 2017, was joined by Maltese Foreign Minister George Vella, as well as officials from Europe and Africa. The meeting was convened to deal with migration through cooperation with third countries.

Mogherini slammed the stance of immigration opponents as “based on confrontation, instead of cooperation; on building walls, instead of building partnerships; on closures and bans, rather than dialogue,” promising the Europe will instead take a “fair” and “humane” approach.

“Let me be totally clear from the very beginning: Europe does not and will not close its doors. Also because – and as an Italian I think I can say it loud – we Europeans have been migrants ourselves up to few years ago.”

Mogherini called attention to the approximately 4,500 lives lost as asylum seekers tried to cross into the EU via the Central Mediterranean route in 2016 – the worst figure on record, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

“Every day, every single day, people still die on the route; those we see at sea, those we do not see in the desert [in Africa]. Each one of those lives is one too many and we can save them, protect them; prevent these dangerous journeys only if we manage together,” she said.

Mogherini stressed that Europe shouldn’t “prevent people from seeking a better life elsewhere” and must “stop the tragedy at sea, and in the desert.”…”

    • Aging and graying Europe won’t close its doors to asylum seekers, as it needs immigration, the EU’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said, adding that Europeans had been migrants themselves “up to few years ago.”

When will people finally begin calling out liars like Mogherini? All Europe needs to do is reward their own indigenous young people for making babies the same way the EU is lavishing social benefits on these vicious “immigrant” predators.

        • Besides, technology will continue to reduce the demand for low-level skills.

All except for that one particular indoor sport low level skill needed for demographic displacement. As it stands, these predatory “immigrants” are turning everyone’s favorite pastime into an outdoor sport.

        • That it will, the alt left refuses to accept the idea that there will be technological advancement for the masses.

Technology is advancing to the point where the factories will be staffed with robots and tech staff, as will most offices. The ordinary people who want to work will find work as skilled craftsmen, this will require more small businesses (which the alt left can’t control as easily as a big corporation) and will spread the wealth around the way the alt left says it wants but whose actions show they don’t want. The advances in tech give the government better tools to monitor and control the population but at the same time it gives the people more advantages taht will make it harder for the government to control them.

  20. BREITBART – Italy Demands Muslim Preachers Use Italian Before Religion Officially Recognised

Islam has taken its first step towards becoming an officially recognised religion in Italy, with major Muslim groups signing up to a government demand that all imams are registered and preach in the Italian language.

Islam is the only major religion in Italy with no agreement with the State, leaving institutions unable to receive tax subsidies. Islamic weddings also have no legal status and Muslim workers are unable to take religious holidays off work.

Official recognition for a religion in Italy does not merely depend on having a certain number of followers, but requires the principles of a religion to align with the Constitution.

In February, Italy’s Interior Ministry and the country’s nine major Islamic associations signed a “National Pact for an Italian Islam” with the government vowing to “facilitate the path” toward the official recognition of Islam in Italy.

In return, Muslim organisations have agreed to create a registry of their imams, who will be required to preach in Italian. No other religious group has been asked by authorities to hold sermons in Italian.

According to a statement reported by Ansa Med, the document contains “a declaration of commitments by the Islamic organizations to strengthen dialogue and active collaboration with the interior ministry administration, continuing efforts to work against expressions of religious extremism and promoting a process of legal organization of Islamic organizations in harmony with the principles of current regulations on the issue of religious freedoms”.

At the end of last year, the country set up a council of “Italian Islam” in an attempt to bring the religion into compliance with the country’s “Christian and humanist tradition”.

In January of this year, courses for Italian imams were announced, aiming to counter extremism and terrorism by teaching the Islamic leaders about the nation’s constitution and its values, such as free speech, tolerance, and pluralism.

Italy’s estimated 1.6 million Muslims (3.7 per cent of the population) have only a handful of registered mosques to use and many pray in houses, some 800 cultural centres, and prayer rooms across the country.

  21. GERMANY – 2 asylum seekers suspected of sexually harassing 5 girls in German swimming pool

Two asylum seekers are under investigation after five teenage girls claimed they were sexually harassed by the men in a swimming pool in Germany, police confirmed.

The incident took place in the town of Bad Oldesloe in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein on Saturday, police said in their report.

The preliminary information released by police suggested that the girls, aged between 12 and 14, were “touched under water” by “two southern-looking” male persons. The teenagers then reported the incident to a lifeguard who ejected the men from the pool and called law enforcement.

The men in question were later confirmed to be asylum seekers, aged 23 and 34, who were living in Bad Oldesloe. Police have opened investigation into the case, but did not provide the nationalities of the alleged perpetrators.

According to Vereinigte Stadtwerke GmbH which operated the pool in question, the facility has only one camera at the entrance and police have taken the tape for evaluation.

“One should be careful. In no time people’s [image] is being massively damaged following such statements,” Hartmut Jokisch, an activist at a local intercultural center stressed, adding that it’s up to authorities now to make the final judgment.

Similar incidents in Germany involving asylum seekers and carried out especially at leisure centers and swimming pools have been widely reported by the local media over recent months.

In April 2016, a 27-year-old migrant was arrested for a sexual attack on two nine-year-old girls at a swimming pool in the German town of Rendsburg.

Another German city, Norderstedt, also in Schleswig-Holstein, saw a similar attack in early March 2016, after which two asylum-seekers, an adult man and a 14-year-old boy, were charged with attempted rape. They were mandated to remain in custody without bail by a court due to the risk of repeating the offence.

The most striking case of sexual assault by refugees occurred in Germany on New Year’s Eve 2015: there were cases of 881 sexual offences involving over 1,231 women, a German Police report from November revealed.

Apart from Germany, sex attacks allegedly took place in Sweden, Austria, Finland and Switzerland last year.

  22. Germany: Two arrested in Goettingen over suspected attack plot

Police arrested two men they suspect of planning to carry out an attack, in the Lower Saxony town of Goettingen early on Thursday.

Over 450 police officers conducted operations in the town, searching 11 buildings for the suspects.

One of the detained men is from Algeria and the other is from Nigeria, according to reports. The suspects were taken to a local police station for questioning.

Police reportedly said they carried out the raids due to a “potentially imminent terror attack.” More details are due to be released at a press conference scheduled for later on Thursday.

    • Germany: ‘Leftists’ vandalise scores of luxury cars near iconic Berlin squat

Leftist activists are suspected of vandalising scores of luxury cars in a parking lot along Rigaer Strasse, one of Berlin’s most famed hotspots for squatters, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Rigaer Strasse, in the German capital’s eastern district Friedrichshain, was the site of several violent clashes in 2016, after police raided one of Berlin’s oldest squats, attempting to evict its inhabitants.

        • iconic squat?”

Think Freetown Christiania in Copenhagen. Originally occupied in 1971 (after the military abandoned a cluster of barracks and other facilities), it wasn’t until 2007 that the municipal authorities began efforts to normalize what had, for a while, been a semi-autonomous sector of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

        • Squatters move into a place and settle in to live there, depending on the laws of the location of the “squat” it can be hard to remove them.

  23. Jihadist Groups in the US: What Next?

To what lengths would America’s leaders go to protect a group that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deemed a terrorist organization?

A bombshell new report from the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) reveals the alarming answer.

It involves a man who in his almost 50 years of public life has done more for America’s enemies — first of the Communist variety and later of the jihadist brand — than perhaps any other: Iran lobbyist-in-chief John Kerry.

In the most recent case, he did so in secret, apparently well aware of the political consequences of exposing the potentially catastrophic policy he was pursuing to the light of day.

As IPT’s report details, Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim American Society (MAS) were classified as terrorist groups by the UAE in 2014, as two of the 83 entities identified as such for their ties to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.

  24. Lawmakers Seek Measures to Protect Citizens from Protester Violence, Intimidation

(Paul Chesser, Liberty Headlines) Leftist agitators are escalating their protests into intimidation and violence on campuses in public venues across the country — against elected officials, public figures, and fellow students — and now some lawmakers are saying, “Enough!”

The scale of the liberal resistance ranges from the national to the local. Politico reported yesterday that Republican members of Congress fear violence as they plan to repeal Obamacare. On Inauguration Day former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory, while visiting Washington, was forced down an alley and boxed in against locked doors after an intimidating mob stalked him yelling pejoratives, expletives, and threats.

Meanwhile The Daily Caller explained how a loosely connected “resistance” to President Trump has vowed to become “ungovernable,” with groups such as DisruptJ20, Black Lives Matter, Refuse Fascism and Occupy Oakland stirring up riots and revolution. And last week Breitbart.com editor Milo Yiannopoulos was prevented from speaking at the University of California at Berkeley due to mob violence.

Even employees of the Environmental Protection Agency joined protests on Monday in Chicago.

So while supporting the demonstrators’ rights to free speech, a number of lawmakers around the country have found their behavior to be an infringement on the rights and safety of others, and they intend to sponsor legislation and institute strategies to do something about it.

  25. Berkeley Student Op-Ed: We Had To Get Violent In Self-Defense To People Saying Stuff

On Tuesday, in a self-immolating display of narcissistic stupidity, The Daily Californian – the student newspaper for UC Berkeley – ran an op-ed defending the use of violence in shutting down a speech by alt-right popularizer and professional provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. The op-ed, titled “Violence as self-defense,” was a whole series of op-eds talking about why violence was useful in shutting down political debate.

“To people with platforms who decide when a protest should and should not be violent: You speak from a place of immense privilege. As I recently wrote in a tirade against this brand of idiocy, asking people to maintain peaceful dialogue with those who legitimately do not think their lives matter is a violent act,” wrote Nisa Dang, an alumna of the university.

  27. Germany: NPD politician sentenced to 8 years in prison for refugee centre arson attack

National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) politician Maik Schneider was sentenced to eight years in prison for an arson attack on a planned refugee shelter in Nauen in August 2015, in Potsdam on Thursday.

SOT, Potsdam court spokesperson (German): “The court decided that all defendants had different levels of participation and contribution to the offence. The main defendant and the main organiser S. [Maik Schneider] was sentenced to eight years in prison. Another defendant, who also played one of the leading roles in committing crime, was sentenced to seven years in prison; other defendants received milder punishment which can be commonly replaced by suspended sentences.”

  29. Sweden and Germany build orphanage in Morocco to deport juvenile delinquent migrants

Stockholm’s central train station and other crime-infested parts of Sweden may in the near future be just a little bit safer now that the government, with Germany’s help, has managed to strike a deal with Morocco involving returning of unaccompanied street children, living in Sweden and Germany, to their homeland. The Swedes and the Germans have promised to finance a pilot project consisting of two different orphanages in Morocco, an operation that will cost the EU some 20 million euros (or else, Morocco wouldn’t accept its own citizens).

The street children in the age up to 18 years old generally avoid contact with the authorities, Expressen reports, but are nevertheless notorious for their criminal activities. Approximately 400 unaccompanied Moroccan teenagers are now living in Sweden. Many of them initially applied for asylum, but their requests were turned down since Morocco is considered a safe country.

In January 2016, Swedish Interior Minister Anders Ygeman announced he was busy working out a deal with Moroccan officials, calling the situation “a joint problem.”

Police: It is not safe here

A local police officer back then told SVT about the crime wave caused by the presence of the Moroccan gang members, some of whom are only 9 years old, that have turned down all offers from the authorities to get them into safe housing:

  30. Yahoo – EXCLUSIVE: Assad says some refugees are ‘definitely’ terrorists

Weighing in on one of the most contentious issues in American politics — the danger posed to host countries by the 4.8 million people who have fled from Syria’s civil war — Syrian President Bashar Assad told Yahoo News that some of the refugees are “definitely” terrorists.

In an exclusive interview with Yahoo News at a presidential office in Damascus, Assad said President Trump’s freeze on admitting refugees from his country — part of an executive order that has drawn widespread protests and is being challenged in federal court — “is an American issue” on which he would not take sides. But asked if some of those who fled are “aligned with terrorists,” Assad quickly replied, “Definitely.”

“You can find it on the Net,” Assad went on: “Those terrorists in Syria, holding the machine gun or killing people, they [appear as] peaceful refugees in Europe or in the West.” He said he couldn’t estimate how many there might be, but he added that “you don’t need a significant number to commit atrocities.” He noted that the 9/11 attacks were pulled off by fewer than 20 terrorists “out of maybe millions of immigrants in the United States. So it’s not about the number, it’s about the quality, it’s about the intentions.”

As for the future of Syria’s 4.8 million refugees, Assad said, “For me, the priority is to bring those citizens to their country, not to help them immigrate.”

As with all interviews granted by President Bashar al-Assad, this interview was filmed by his presidential press office. No editorial changes were made to the content.
