Former US President Barack Obama, in his waning hours, quietly released $221 million to the Palestinian Authority (PA), which Congress had been blocking.

The State Department is reviewing the last-minute decision by former Secretary of State John Kerry to send $221 million dollars to the Palestinians.
Kerry formally notified Congress that State would release the money Friday morning, just hours before President Donald Trump took the oath of office.
The funds — supposedly intended for reconstruction in Gaza and good governance programs for the Palestinian Authority — were being blocked by at least two Republican lawmakers— Ed Royce (R-CA), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Kay Granger (R-TX), who sits on the House Appropriations Committee — in response to Palestinian attempts to join international organizations, from which it intended to launch more international campaigns against Israel and before a peace deal with Israel.

Thomas, a gang member from Saginaw, Mich., who was serving a 19-year prison sentence for drug-related crimes that included the sale of cocaine, was one of the lucky stiffs whose jail terms were commuted by the former president in his eleventh-hour push for “justice reform.” Now Thomas is a plain stiff.

Many state officials fear this is the first step toward a federal takeover of state-run elections, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.
While deep political discord may be found on other issues, state secretaries — who oversee all election machinery — appear completely united against the former administration’s attempt to insert the federal government into state-run elections.

The two boys quickly organised reinforcements and 13 of them beat up the Austrian man as well as stealing his valuables.
Crimes carried out by migrants in Austria have risen rapidly over the past year as more arrive in the country.
Last year, there were a total 22,000 criminal complaints against migrants, up from 14,000 in 2015, the Austrian Interior Ministry revealed.

Police Investigation After Woman Brutally Beaten by ‘Anti Fascists’ for Wearing National Flag Bracelet
The full weight of the law must be brought against the ‘antifascists’ who brutally beat a woman, reportedly for wearing a bracelet bearing the national flag, Spain’s interior minister said on Tuesday.
The attack, which left the 20-year-old woman with head injuries and a broken tooth, has been celebrated by the far left on social media. Among the seven so-called anti-fascists who have so far been arrested for the vicious assault is Alejandro Espín Sogo, who stood in local elections as a candidate for the United Left party in 2015.
The young woman was beaten by a group of as many as 20 hooded youths on Sunday morning in the city of Murcia, La Gaceta reported.
Speaking to the national newspaper, the 20-year-old recalled receiving a shower of insults from the far left mob when she exited the cocktail bar she was visiting with friends to have a smoke. Once outside, a woman chanted “Pig, pig, we’re going to kill you”, and shoved her.
The female aggressor then fled the scene while the men from the group moved in to beat their victim. After being knocked to the ground by the left wing extremists, the 20-year-old said she tried to protect herself, but that the mob then “started kicking [her] in the head”.

BBC – Muslims guilty of Rotherham child sexual abuse charges
Five men have been found guilty of the sexual abuse of two girls in Rotherham.
Matloob Hussain, Mohammed Sadiq and brothers Basharat, Nasser and Tayab Dad, were convicted at Sheffield Crown Court.
The offences date back to the late 1990s and early 2000s, when the girls were given alcohol and cannabis and intimidated into performing sex acts.
The men are due to be sentenced on 2 February.

Amjad Ali, 36, of Hodthorpe in Worksop, pleaded guilty at a hearing last February to one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13. He will be sentenced with the others.

Mark Langan, Crown Prosecution Service lawyer, said the girls were subjected to “appalling abuse” and targeted because they were “naïve and vulnerable”.
He said: “These men have been found guilty of a catalogue of vile sex offences against two young girls [who] were given alcohol and cannabis and intimidated into performing sexual acts.
“On one occasion, one was locked alone in a flat for hours without food, water or electricity.
Det Ch Insp Martin Tate, who oversaw the inquiry, said: “The court heard harrowing evidence from two very brave women whose childhoods were robbed by these men.”
The girls, one of which was 12 at the time and the other 13 to 14, were “subjected to horrific sexual abuse”, the officer added.
Det Ch Insp Tate said: “No child should ever have to experience what these women have had to endure. I hope today’s result offers them both some resolution after so many years of anguish.”
He thanked the women for their “support and courage” over the past two years, and their families and witnesses who played “vital roles” in convicting the men.

German broadcaster ARD reports the Federal Prosecutor’s Office ordered several raids against a suspected network of right-wing extremists. ARD’s terrorism expert, Holger Schmidt, thinks the Federal Prosecutors are after so-called ‘Neo-Druids‘ that occupy themselves with pagan ideas and lean towards Celtic magic. Apparently, a part of this “scene” is considered to be “extremely right-wing.”
The SWR claims the investigations are aimed particularly at one man, Burghard Bangert (Facebook profile) from Baden-Württemberg.
He is said to have networked with five other right-wing extremists through social media, with the aim to commit acts of terrorism under his command. He is charged with planning armed attacks on policemen, asylum seekers and Jews.

British Ministers threaten to replace peers if House of Lords thwarts Brexit
Fearing it would trigger a “constitutional crisis” ministers have said they will not allow peers ? House of Lord members who are appointed, rather than elected directly ? to disrupt the Brexit process by delaying or amending the legislation when they debate Brexit next month.
Ministers are even considering threatening to install so-called “sunset peers” which would see peers sit for a time limited period while the Article 50 legislation is debated and voted. The bill, (presumably) called the European Union Withdrawal Bill will likely be published on Thursday and then passed through the House of Commons in just two weeks.
Simply put: The Brits are going to vote on Brexit. Some Lords (enough to make the ministers nervous) want to block the Bill, therefore ministers threaten to put new people (peers) in the House of Commons who favour the Bill, to ensure the Bill will pass. After the bill has passed, these peers would kindly be asked to leave again.
One problem with the plan, The Telegraph states, is that there is no “mechanism to sunset a peer – it depends on the peers themselves, it is a life peerage”. This could mean these “sunset peers” have to agree to quit after the Bill has passed through the House of Lords.
