“Labor MP Anne Aly has told Parliament she received death threats after she condemned Immigration Minister Peter Dutton’s comments about Lebanese-Muslims.
Mr Dutton singled out the Lebanese-Muslin community earlier this week, saying most people charged with terror-related offences came from the background.
Dr Aly, the first Muslim woman to be elected to Parliament and an expert in counter-terrorism, said the Immigration Minister’s comments were “extremely disappointing” and feared they were made in malice.
She said the comments prompted death threats directed towards her family.
“I don’t worry about myself because in this place I am afforded the protections that not many people are afforded,” she said.
“But these were death threats against my family.
During a debate on equality, Dr Aly asked if a right to free speech was worth more than her right to be protected.
Dr Aly told reporters she received an email saying Mr Dutton was correct and that she needed to go home and “take all her terrorist friends with her”.
“Now if I’m getting those kinds of emails, you can be sure that there are people out there in the communities, people out there in Liberal-held seats of Arab, or Muslim, or Lebanese background, or just any kind of migrant background who are also going to be getting comments like that in the streets.”
Mr Dutton last week stated that former prime minister Malcolm Fraser “did make mistakes in bringing some people in” as part of his immigration policies in the 1970s.
“The advice I have is that out of the last 33 people who have been charged with terrorist-related offences in this country, 22 of those people are from second and third generation Lebanese-Muslim background,” he said.
Aly asks is free speech worth more than protection?
Coalition MP Andrew Laming defended Mr Dutton’s comments saying he did no more than speak the “prima facie truth” about ethnic communities.
During Question Time in the Senate, Attorney-General George Brandis said he did not believe the comments would make it harder for the Government to cooperate with the community on counter-terrorism measures.
During a debate on equality, Dr Aly took issue with Coalition MPs pushing for reforms to section 18c of the Racial Discrimination Act.
“I would ask those people whether they think that their right to free speech is better or more worthy than my right to feel protected,” she said.
Dr Aly recalled being bullied by two peers in primary school, with one girl spitting in her face and telling her that she was “a dirty Muslim, a dirty Arab and that she hated me because I didn’t believe in Jesus”.
After complaining to her teacher, she said she was told to stop being silly and “don’t be stupid”.
“That experience doesn’t define for me what Australia means, that experience I had in the playground that day didn’t equate with me saying Australia was a racist country,” she said.”
Yes, free speech is in general more important than your “right to feel protected.”

MSM take their best shots at Trump, and nobody cares

Day after day, the mainstream media “news” about Trump remains relentlessly bad. If you fed yourself a diet of nothing but “MSM news about Trump,” the indigestion and food poisoning would have killed you by now.
Casual readers can avoid consuming this news by staying away from the mainstream TV networks and newspapers, and the supposedly “centrist” websites, like Politico. (If you don’t know enough to stay away from sites like Slate and Salon, or avowedly left-wing magazines’ websites like New Republic and Atlantic, we can address that via separate correspondence.)
But if you’re a political blogger, and you need to survey what’s out there every day, it’s been downright funny to see the media slinging everything they can come up with at Trump. The desperation is palpable.
The desperation is understandable, too, as it happens. Some of the things the media can find to lob at Trump have always been effective before. Under ordinary conditions, we would expect them to be so now. But they’re not. Nothing is working the way it’s supposed to.
And it’s really inexplicable because Trump himself is far from a morally pristine character. He brings plenty of baggage. Certainly a lot more baggage that would normally bear looking into than the politicians he ran against in the primaries. Remember when the MSM actually made headway with idiotic themes like “Marco Rubio bought a fishing boat” and “Ted Cruz’s little girl shied away from a public hug”?
Trump has flaws and skeletons that no ordinary Republican would survive, and yet he survives them. Why should he get away with so many things way worse than putting his dog on the roof of the car for a road trip? He isn’t statesmanlike, or “clubbable” among decent, peaceable people. How is it possible that Trump is getting a pass from the cosmos, instead of a deserving, high-toned person like Mitt Romney? What’s going on here?
I think it’s pretty simple, if we just change the direction we’re looking in. It’s not about Trump. (It is, to the extent that he doesn’t lose heart and back down when he’s under attack. That does matter, a lot, but I’m asking you not to focus on it, because if you do, you’ll miss the structural development that’s important here.)
It’s about the fact that the mainstream media’s hold on the public dialogue is being broken. That is literally what is happening, right before our eyes.
….The media empires that have run our public discourse for decades will not survive this. And just think about this one implication of that: it means there won’t be centralized media buttons for someone like George Soros to push, to sell the narratives that he prefers and make sure they drown out everything else. His whole “Open Society” model of targeted influence will lose its framework.

It’s time to break Twitter, Facebook, and Google

In fact, it’s time to break “the Internet” as it exists today, and reconstitute it.
But let’s start with the social media and browsing/search giants. They’re all implementing policies to shut down the voices of freedom in their forums. It’s one thing to police obscenity and personal attacks. It’s another thing entirely to define the word “gun” as an offense, and bias content-oriented algorithms against it.
It’s ridiculous to “suspend” users for posting politically conservative content – and yet, in the blogger forums I correspond with, such suspensions are now commonplace. “I’m in Facebook jail” for X number of days has become a constant refrain. We’re not talking about people who use expletives or make threats online. We’re talking about people who merely post conservative sentiments and memes, and links to (very mainstream) conservative websites.
The social media and browsing giants are private companies. They can run things the way they want; it’s their dime. But that’s why they need to be broken. They can’t be allowed to become a vehicle for marginalizing non-compliant voices. The default model for social media and browsing needs to be variety, diversity, and freedom – not intellectual conformity. Freedom is what needs to pay off.
So, basically, there need to be more of them. They need competition to force them to stop acting like Caesar Augustus.

The Indian Army has launched a massive counter assault along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir a day after Pakistani forces mutilated the body of a soldier and killed two others.
The fire assault on Pakistan’s permanent defences has begun with the Army using heavy mortars to hit back. The Pakistani army posts that helped infiltration along the border by giving cover fire are being decimated.
The offensive comes hours after the Indian Army vowed “heavy retribution” for the attack on its soldiers.
This conflict may grow into a real war, the problem is that both sides have nuclear weapons.
According to Southern Poverty Law Center, expression ‘Drain the swamp’ is racist
Like beauty, racism is in the eye of the beholder. And if the beholder happens to be Ryan Lenz, a spokesman for the “civil rights” watchdog, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the phrase “drain the swamp” is somehow code for … well, I’m not all sure what he thinks it’s code for, but just suffice to say it’s racist.

17 Vermont towns report illegal absentee ballot requests from Democratic Party
Clerks across eight counties are reporting that the Vermont Democratic Party submitted unauthorized absentee ballot requests for the general election — an illegal act under Vermont election laws.
While the Secretary of State’s office doesn’t keep a record of unauthorized ballot requests, Watchdog’s calls to 17 town clerks found that the VDP made 115 requests for absentee ballots without voters’ approval.
The number of unauthorized requests may be much higher since Vermont has 237 towns and nine cities, and because unauthorized requests are discovered only when voters report the suspicious activity to local clerks.

P iù immigrati uguale più criminalità. L’equazione che qualcuno potrebbe bollare come becera e figlia di un pregiudizio è confermata dalle statistiche. Che ci dicono anche un’altra cosa: il Centro-Nord, sta superando il Sud in quanto a tasso di criminalità. A fare il punto è una delle categorie più penalizzate dalla criminalità, cioè il commercio. Ieri la principale associazione degli esercenti, Confcommercio, ha presentato l’iniziativa «Legalità, mi piace». La denuncia del presidente della Confederazione Carlo Sangalli è chiara: i fenomeni criminali «non diminuiscono e quest’anno sottraggono alle imprese del commercio e ai pubblici esercizi 26,5 miliardi di euro di fatturato con la perdita di 180.000 posto di lavoro regolari». Con un dato più che allarmante: un negoziante su 10 è stato minacciato.
Tra i dati diffusi dal centro studi della confederazione diretto da Mariano Bella, spunta un focus sul ruolo dell’immigrazione. Per capire quanto pesi, il ricercatore ha calcolato quanto varia in percentuale il tasso di criminalità se crescono di almeno un punto percentuale alcune variabili. La prima è il Pil. E la relazione è diretta. Per ogni punto di ricchezza, la criminalità (cioè i reati denunciati) cresce dello 0,3%. La spiegazione è chiara: la ricchezza attira i criminali.
Poi l’immigrazione. Se la presenza di immigrati sale di un punto percentuale nella stessa area si registra un aumento del tasso di criminalità dello 0,4%. Impossibile che non ci sia una relazione.
Bella si è quindi concentrato sugli autori dei crimini. Il tasso per gli italiani è di 4,3 criminali ogni 1.000 abitanti. Gli stranieri residenti regolari sono il doppio: 8,5 ogni mille. Se si passa agli immigrati irregolari, la presenza di autori di crimini sale: tra 148 e 247 ogni mille persone.
C’è un «ma» molto importante nello studio di Bella. La presenza di stranieri con un «progetto formativo» preciso (che in questo caso è dato da un indicatore particolare, l’iscrizione dei ragazzi ai licei) fa calare il tasso di criminalità. Famiglie di stranieri integrati e con progetti di lungo periodo, spiega il ricercatore di Confcommercio, fa calare il tasso di criminalità dello 0,1%. Così come la presenza di «capitale sociale». Cioè di cittadini responsabili, che denunciano i crimini quando li vedono. In questo caso il calo è addirittura dell’1,7%.
Queste variabili hanno condizionato molto il tasso di criminalità delle regioni. In Emilia Romana è altissimo, al 56,7 denunce ogni 1.000 abitanti. In Sicilia e Calabria rispettivamente 38,1 e 32,6. Nella prima regione la presenza di stranieri è intorno al 12%. Nelle due regioni del Sud si ferma al 4%. Anche in questo caso è difficile non vedere un nesso.
Confcommercio ha commissionato a GfK Eurisko una indagine sulla criminalità percepita dai commercianti e imprenditori. Più di un imprenditore su quattro, il 28%, pensa ci sia stato un peggioramento nei livelli di sicurezza per la propria attività rispetto all’anno scorso, il dato si accentua al Nord Est, al Sud e nel settore alimentare. I fenomeni maggiormente percepiti in aumento sono: l’abusivismo (in aumento per il 51% delle imprese), i furti (per il 47%), la contraffazione (per il 44%); seguono le rapine (37%). Più contenuta la crescita dei comportamenti criminali tipicamente collegabili alla criminalità organizzata. «Se vogliamo tornare a crescere – ha sottolineato Sangalli – bisogna rimuovere i difetti strutturali della nostra economia, a partire dal deficit di legalità».

Migrants in Sofia go on a hunger strike, demand police protection from local youths
As the numbers of migrants are constantly rising, locals are beginning to feel under siege and groups of youths organize themselves and beat the foreighners.
Groups of vigilantes have existed ever since the big wave of migrants that passed through the country in the beginning of the migrant crisis in 2013, but the groups close to the migrant centers have now multiplied and even migrants who do not cause problems are attacked.

A growing number of academics and activists are calling for US authorities to fully audit or recount the 2016 presidential election vote in key battleground states, in case the results could have been skewed by foreign hackers.
The loose coalition, which is urging Hillary Clinton’s campaign to join its fight, is preparing to deliver a report detailing its concerns to congressional committee chairs and federal authorities early next week, according to two people involved.
The document, which is currently 18 pages long, focuses on concerns about the results in the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
“I’m interested in verifying the vote,” said Dr Barbara Simons, an adviser to the US election assistance commission and expert on electronic voting. “We need to have post-election ballot audits.” Simons is understood to have contributed analysis to the effort but declined to characterise the precise nature of her involvement.
A second group of analysts, led by the National Voting Rights Institute founder John Bonifaz and Professor Alex Halderman, the director of the University of Michigan’s center for computer security and society, is also taking part in the push for a review, and has been in contact with Simons.
In a blogpost early on Wednesday, Halderman said paper ballots and voting equipment should be examined Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, warning that deadlines were rapidly approaching.
“Unfortunately, nobody is ever going to examine that evidence unless candidates in those states act now, in the next several days, to petition for recounts,” he said.
The developments follow Clinton’s surprise defeat to Donald Trump in the 8 November vote, and come after US intelligence authorities released public assessments that Russian hackers were behind intrusions into regional electoral computer systems and the theft of emails from Democratic officials before the election.
Having consistently led Trump in public opinion polls for months preceding election day in all three midwestern states, Clinton narrowly lost Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and may yet lose Michigan, where a final result has still not been declared.
Curiosity about Wisconsin has centred on apparently disproportionate wins that were racked up by Trump in counties using electronic voting compared with those that used only paper ballots. The apparent disparities were first widely publicised earlier this month by David Greenwald, a journalist for the Oregonian.
However, Nate Silver, the polling expert and founder of FiveThirtyEight, cast significant doubt over this theory on Tuesday evening, stating that the difference disappeared after race and education levels, which most closely tracked voting shifts nationwide, were controlled for.
Silver and several other election analysts have dismissed suggestions that the swing state vote counts give cause for concern about the integrity of the results.
Still, dozens of professors specialising in cybersecurity, defense, and elections have in the past two days signed an open letter to congressional leaders stating that they are “deeply troubled” by previous reports of foreign interference, and requesting swift action by lawmakers.
“Our country needs a thorough, public congressional investigation into the role that foreign powers played in the months leading up to November,” the academics said in their letter, while noting they did not mean to “question the outcome” of the election itself.
Halderman, the University of Michigan computer security expert, noted that this Friday is the deadline for requesting a recount in Wisconsin, where Trump’s winning margin stands at 0.7%. In Pennsylvania, where his margin is 1.2%, the deadline falls on Monday. In Michigan, where the Trump lead is currently just 0.3%, the deadline is Wednesday 30 November.
Senior congressmen including Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland have already called for deeper inquiries into the full extent of Russia’s interference with the election campaign.
Nonpartisan experts and academics have been in communication with Democratic operatives and people who worked on Clinton’s bid for the White House, who are being urged to officially request recounts in states where a candidate may do so.
New York magazine reported that a conference call has taken place between the activists and John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign chairman.
Both Podesta and the acting Democratic National Committee chairwoman, Donna Brazile, have privately mused about the integrity of the election result, according to two sources familiar with the conversations.
Several senior Democrats are said to be intensely reluctant to suggest there were irregularities in the result because Clinton and her team criticised Trump so sharply during the campaign for claiming that the election would be “rigged” against him.
But others have spoken publicly, including the sister of Huma Abedin, Clinton’s closest aide. “A shift of just 55,000 Trump votes to Hillary in PA, MI & WI is all that is needed to win,” Hema Abedin said on Facebook, urging people to call the justice department to request an audit.
Alexandra Chalupa, a former DNC consultant who during the campaign investigated links between Moscow and Trump’s then-campaign manager Paul Manafort, is also participating in the attempt to secure recounts or audits.
“The person who received the most votes free from interference or tampering needs to be in the White House,” said Chalupa. “It may well be Donald Trump, but further due diligence is required to ensure that American democracy is not threatened.”
According to people involved, activists had previously urged Jill Stein, the Green party presidential candidate, to use rules in some states allowing any candidate on the ballot to request a review of the result. Stein is understood to have declined, citing in part a lack of party funds that would be required to finance such a move.
In a joint statement issued last month, the office of the director of national intelligence and the department for homeland security said they were “confident” that the theft of emails from the DNC and from Podesta, which were published by WikiLeaks, was directed by the Russian government.
“Some states have also recently seen scanning and probing of their election-related systems, which in most cases originated from servers operated by a Russian company,” the statement went on. “However, we are not now in a position to attribute this activity to the Russian government.”
Asked on Tuesday whether the agencies had confidence that the election itself had been secure, a spokesman for the office of the director of national intelligence said: “Our colleagues at the department for homeland security are best positioned to address this.”
A spokesman for the department for homeland security, however, did not respond to requests for comment.

A group of renowned computer scientists and lawyers have urged Hillary Clinton to challenge the election results in three key states after they gathered “evidence” to suggest the election results were potentially manipulated.
The group of activists, including voting rights lawyer John Bonifaz and J Alex Halderman, director of the University of Michigan’s center for computer security and society, believe their evidence shows that results in these three battleground states – which lost Ms Clinton the election on 8 November – might have been hacked.
As reported by New York Magazine, the group is not speaking on the record but is privately lobbying Clinton’s team to challenge the election results.
In Wisconsin, Ms Clinton received 7 per cent fewer votes in counties that depended on electronic-voting machines compared to countries that used optical scanners and paper ballots, and consequently Ms Clinton may have lost up to 30,000 votes. She lost Wisconsin by 27,000 votes.
The group has already held a call with Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias to argue that while they have not found conclusive evidence of a hack, the pattern in their results merits an independent review.
Ms Clinton has made no indication she would challenge the results and the White House is intent on a smooth transition.
The deadline to file for a vote recount is between Friday and next Wednesday for the three states.
The vote in Michigan has still not been called as the results on 8 November were very close – and the 16 electoral votes in the state have not been proportioned to either Mr Trump or Ms Clinton.
Mr Trump has 290 electoral college votes, compared to Ms Clinton’s 232 votes. Michigan is likely to be given to the Republican side.
Ms Clinton would need to win Michigan and overturn the results in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to win the electoral college.
Another factor is so-called “faithless electors” who will not vote for the candidate which won in the popular vote in their state. So far, six electoral college voters said they would not vote for Mr Trump.
Meanwhile more than 4.5 million people have signed a petition for more electoral college delegates to defy the instructions given to them in their state.
There have only been 157 faithless electors throughout history but they have never overturned an election.
Mr Trump said on Tuesday during a meeting with the New York Times that he was “never a fan” of the electoral college and he would have preferred to win in the popular vote.

Former Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein may be eyeing a recount in three states.
Political observers on Wednesday noticed Stein had launched a fundraising page on her website for a recount.
“After seeing compelling evidence of voting anomalies, the Stein/Baraka Green Party Campaign is launching an effort to ensure the integrity of our elections. With your help, are raising money to demand recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania– three states where the data suggests significant discrepancies in vote totals,” the page reads.
It goes on to say the group needs to raise “over $2 million by this Friday, 4pm central,” to ensure a recount.
The site features a donation counter, which, as of 1:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday, had zero donations.
An announcement on the recount filing is expected on Stein’s Facebook page, according to one report.
President-elect Donald Trump was named the winner of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Election results from The Associated Press show that Stein received 1.1 percent of the vote in Michigan and Wisconsin and 0.8 percent of the vote in Pennsylvania.

A leading ad exchange has blacklisted Breitbart News, which until recently was run by one of US President-elect Donald Trump’s closest advisers.
AppNexus said it would no longer allow Breitbart to sell ad space via its platform, after determining that the site had broken its code on hate speech and incitement to violence.
Breitbart responded saying it “has always and continues to condemn racism and bigotry in any form”.
AppNexus has not given examples.
But a spokesman said a “human audit” of Breitbart had flagged several articles that had caused it concern because of the language they had featured.

A theme park and a top police location were among the targets of a suspected Isis terror attack in France that was foiled over the weekend, according to local media reports.

At least 12 civilians have been killed after Saudi warplanes attacked a pick-up truck in the northwestern Yemeni province of Hajjah on Wednesday, residents say.

The most expensive destroyer ever built for the United States Navy has suffered another embarrassing breakdown, this time in the Panama Canal, leading to the first-of-its class “stealth” ship to be towed to port.
US Third Fleet spokesman Commander Ryan Perry said a vice admiral directed the USS Zumwalt to remain at ex-Naval Station Rodman in Panama to address the issues, which arose yesterday.
The ship was built at Bath Iron Works “down east” in Maine and is on its way to San Diego on the US West Coast.
“With the Zumwalt, the whole purpose is to push the limits of technology,” Eric Wertheim, author of the US Naval Institute’s Guide to Combat Fleets of the World, told the Maine-based Portland Press Herald today.
The Zumwalt cost more than US$4.4 billion (about $6.2 billion) and was commissioned last month in Maryland. It also suffered a leak in its propulsion system before it was commissioned.
The leak required the ship to remain at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia longer than expected for repairs.The ship is part of the first new class of warship built at Bath Iron Works in more than 25 years.

“There’s a real, sort of, concern that rhetoric will spill over, and already we have seen a number of incidents,” said Sarah Shafiq, community-at-large member with the council and member of the Coalition of Muslim Women of KW.

A study by the Center for American Progress in 2011 revealed seven charitable groups gave $42.6 million to Islamophobia think tanks between 2001 and 2009.

A Canada-wide survey conducted this year by Environics shows one in three say they have experienced discrimination in the past five years.
“Naming the issue of Islamophobia can be an important educational opportunity,” wrote Christiane Sadeler, executive director for the council, in a report to the region’s community services committee Tuesday.
“While signing a charter is a low level commitment it can also be an important first step in advancing an important dialogue and call for action.”

Leader of the fair-right Freedom Party (PVV) Geert Wilders gave a closing statement, Wednesday, during his hate speech trial at a courthouse in Schipol.
The politician said: “I am being prosecuted because of race. How crazy can that be? Race? Which race? I spoke and asked a question about Moroccans. Moroccans are no race. Who came up with this?”

A month ago, progressives were having a conniption fit over Trump’s refusal to accept the outcome of the election. So of course, now that Trump has won, they are rioting, vandalizing, staging “cry-ins,” ditching class, group-hugging, tweeting threats, calling names, seeking counseling, and doing everything in their power to make sure that their party declines even further. If this behavior continues, and if––a big “if” –– Trump governs the way he promised, we may be witnessing the start of the progressive disintegration.
Start with the melting snowflake millennials, all those “cocksure women and hensure men,” as D.H. Lawrence once described feminists of both sexes. These layabouts have become used to throwing tantrums whenever they don’t like something or they feel “unsafe.” Most of them are spoiled brats, the pampered detritus of the middle class. But don’t forget the Alinskyite activists who manipulate these juveniles and bus them in on George Soros’ dime. These two-bit Leninists are adept at using “useful idiots” in order to further their aim of destroying America’s political and social order. They’re skilled at manipulating empty slogans like “income inequality,” “fair share,” “social justice,” “diversity,” “inclusion,” and all the other bumper-sticker bromides in order to consolidate and increase their power and influence.

More Victims in the War on Police

Sunday was a bloody one for police officers just doing their job to keep us safe. One police officer in San Antonio, Texas, Detective Benjamin Marconi, a father of three, was murdered at point blank range as he was writing a traffic ticket in his car. Three other officers were wounded in unprovoked attacks on Sunday — two in Missouri and one in Sanibel, Florida. All four attacks occurred within a twelve hour period. These attacks, while said to be unconnected with each other, continue this year’s alarming pattern of escalation of hate crimes targeting the police. As San Antonio’s police chief said in trying to explain the likely motive of Detective Marconi’s alleged killer, “I think the uniform was the target and the first person who happened along was the person he targeted.” On Tuesday, yet another police officer was shot in the head in Detroit. The motive of the shooter has not yet been released by authorities.
According to data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, an organization that tracks police fatalities, the number of police officers killed by ambush this year (with a month still to go) has already surpassed the number killed by ambush in any of the last ten years. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has reported that “the number of officers shot and killed in ambush attacks this year now totals 20, which is the highest total since 1995.” The number of officers fatally shot altogether between January 1st and November 22nd is sixty, up by 67 percent from last year. These include the killing of five police officers in Dallas, Texas on July 7th and the three officers killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana ten days later.

One civilian village pointed out by Yavne called Chakra, which has 4,000 Shiite inhabitants, “reflects the situation of every Shiite neighborhood, town, or village in Lebanon. In that village, 1/3 of the homes are military assets of Hezbollah.”
