  4. Migrants on hunger strike for not getting luxury living conditions in Bulgaria
    http://btvnovinite.bg/article/bulgaria/obshtestvo/kashta-i-pari-za-vseki-bezhanec-koj-reklamira-stranata-ni-pred-migrantite-v-garcija.html

An NGO lured the migrants to relocate from Greece to Bulgaria by promising they would live in conditions similar to 5-star hotels(in their own houses) and get 500 euro a moth + all transportation expenses covered every month, free translation and medical treatment.
Now they will not eat until they get what they were promised.

The minimal pension in Bg is ~75 Euros, and many people are on it. The average is ~150 Euros.
The average salary is ~400 Euros, but I believe it’s calculated when the income of those who get much more than most is calculated. I think I’ve seen data that the average worker gets ~300 Euros a month, and have to cover all their expenses with it.
Hunger strike is merely a moral weapon – you show others how much you suffer and they are supposed to care, and help you. However, these guys have mistaken the country. They’ll get laughter and anger instead of compassion, everywhere in the region, possibly except in Greece.
These people would never have been in Europe had they not been trying to get German money and houses.
Poor Germans are too naive, and too brainwashed to stop it. Besides, there will be violent riots if they cut the welfare for migrants now.

      • Curiously they would never receive ANY government support from their own government with or without civil war -but expect it from foreign countries.

And don´t we all feel cheated after reading about the Syria guy living in Germany with 4 wives and 23 children who “earns” 360,360 Euros per year in Social Benefits for support his 27 mouthed family.

Unfortunately the article is only in German, but a Certified Public Accountant calculated exactly how many German journeyman earning the average wage (Net: 1,596.00Euro) would have to work in order to have the same monthly income as the Syria guy (30,030.00Euro per month). The Answer: 18.8

How many German journeyman monthly tax deductions (314,33 €) would it take to PAY for the Syria family to have their luxury existence in Germoney?

The Answer: 95.5 employed people pay for the 27 to live high on the hog. (That can´t be Halal!!)

        http://www.deutscherarbeitgeberverband.de/klartextfabrik/2016_10_03_dav_klartextfabrik_frauen-kinder.html

        That´s just ONE example.

Don´t even get me started about Germans being kick out of apartments for these freeloaders or how pensioners already struggling to make ends meet have to watch the government throw money at these locusts and have to compete with them at the food dispensaries.

This is the real definition of deplorable.

        • I’m so sorry about what’s going on in Germany. I know the situation there is worse.
The migrants have said many times why they are coming to Europe – for German money and houses, to live “a good life”.
A partial solution would be to completely cut the welfare and offer them instead huge sums to emigrate out of the EU, but I doubt it would happen.

https://youtu.be/VHMW8ItBuDo?t=4m34s (the story, english subtitles) They used to get 360 euros a month in Greece. Where it came from, when Greece is in so much debt, heaven knows. According to laws it seems we are not obliged to give them money, just roof, food and clothing.
Their demand actually is money and nice housing, or return us to Greece(360 euros a month, apparently better living conditions) or death from starvation.
Perhaps they were deliberately lied to in Greece, to get rid of them.

  5. Iraq demands that Turkey pull its ‘occupying’ troops out of military base near Mosul (RT, Oct 5, 2016)
    https://www.rt.com/news/361632-iraq-turkey-troops-occupation/

“Outraged by Ankara’s decision to extend the stationing of its troops in northern Iraq, 30 kilometers from Mosul, Iraqi MPs have called on the government to review its relations with Turkey and lodge a complaint against the “occupation” with the UNSC.

On Tuesday, the majority of Iraqi legislators spoke out against the Turkish parliament’s decision to prolong the stationing of about 150 Turkish soldiers and some 25 tanks at the Bashiqa military camp in Iraq’s northern Nineveh Province, which is located at the forefront of the battle with Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

In a written statement, the MPs decried the decision, appealing to the country’s prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, to summon the Turkish ambassador and file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council that would designate Turkey’s military contingent as an “occupying” force, according to Rudaw news agency.

On Saturday, the Turkish parliament green lighted the extension of the Turkish military’s engagement in both Iraq and Syria…”

    • A brief overview of the Mideast: Turkey is trying to rebuild the Ottoman Empire, the Iranians are trying to rebuild the Persian Empire and Russia has achieved a 300 year dream and has flanked Europe on the Med.

This means that Russia is in Syria to stay so removing Assad means fighting a war with Russia. This leaves Iraq as the major place Turkey can move into to rebuild the Ottoman Empire, this will bring them in direct conflict with Iran and to a lesser extent Russia. To be able to take on Iran Turkey needs the support of the other NATO nations which hopefully will limit their aid to material and not send troops. 6. Precondition? Iran officials ‘snub’ German vice chancellor over call for Tehran to recognize Israel (RT, Oct 5, 2016)
    https://www.rt.com/news/361624-germany-iran-meetings-canceled-israel/

“Iran’s foreign minister and parliament speaker reportedly canceled meetings with the German vice chancellor after he said Tehran must recognize Israel to secure normal relations with Berlin, Iranian media said. It was later claimed media “distorted” the remark.

Sigmar Gabriel, who also serves as Germany’s economy minister, arrived in Tehran on Sunday as part of Berlin’s efforts to renew business ties with Iran following last year’s nuclear deal between Tehran and the six world powers.

However, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani snubbed the vice chancellor following comments made to Der Spiegel ahead of his visit, Fars news agency reported.

Those comments included stating that Iran must acknowledge Israel’s right to exist before a full normalization of ties could take place between Tehran and Berlin.

“A normal, friendly relations with Germany will only be possible if Iran accepts the existence of Israel,” Gabriel told the German magazine.

Zarif and Larijani weren’t the only Iranian politicians upset by Gabriel’s remarks. Iran’s judiciary chief, Sadeq Amoli Larijani, said he would have banned the German vice chancellor from entering the country if he had the power to do so.

“The German economy minister has made incorrect and illogical comments and said that if Iran wants to open way for trade interactions, it should recognize Israel. Apparently, he is asleep and doesn’t know that Iran has tolerated abundant pressures for the sake of its beliefs for over 30 years to resist against such demands,” the judiciary chief said.

“Were I in the place of the government and the foreign minister, I would not allow this minister to visit Iran,” he added.

However, Iranian government spokesperson Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said that Gabriel told him the Israel remarks were misconstrued by the media, and that Germany actually “respects” Tehran’s position.

“When Gabriel came to Iran, I asked him why he has said such a thing while he is one of the pioneering officials who came to Iran after the nuclear deal? He clearly said that they [the media] had distorted his comments. He said that he has come to Iran now without any precondition and that they respect Iran’s views,” Nobakht said.

He added that Tehran will never recognize Israel, stressing that “no country can set a precondition for us. We live with our beliefs.”…”

  7. Illegal Voters Uncovered in Philly Are ‘Tip of the Iceberg’
Law firm uncovers illegal immigrants, convicted felons on rolls — and some have voted in crucial swing state

by Brendan Kirby | Updated 04 Oct 2016 at 8:11 PM

At least 86 non-citizens have been registered voters in Philadelphia since 2013, and almost half — 40 — even voted in at least one recent election, according to a legal group that sued to get voter registration records.

Joseph Vanderhulst, an attorney with the Public Interest Legal Foundation, noted Philadelphia knows about those 86 illegal voters only because officials received specific requests — in almost every case from the voters themselves — to remove the names from the rolls. He said there is no way to know how many non-citizens might be registered to vote in Philadelphia, let alone in the rest of politically crucial Pennsylvania.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg. Who knows how many are on and don’t ask to be taken off.”

“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” he said. “Who knows how many are on and don’t ask to be taken off.”

Research by the law firm also indicated that Philadelphia makes no effort to proactively remove non-citizens or incarcerated felons, who also are ineligible to vote under Pennsylvania law. Philadelphia becomes the latest jurisdiction that the Public Interest Legal Foundation has revealed to have irregularities in the voter rolls. The group recently found 1,046 non-citizens who had been registered to vote in eight Virginia counties and that nearly 200 cast ballots between 2005 and 2015.

  8. State Police raid Indy office in growing voter fraud case

Indiana State Police investigators on Tuesday searched a voter registration agency on Indianapolis’ north side as they look into a voter fraud case that spans nine counties.

The investigation began in late August when police learned of the filing of fraudulent voter registration forms in Marion and Hendricks counties.

The investigation has expanded from Marion and Hendricks counties to include Allen, Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Johnson, Lake and Madison counties, according to a statement from State Police.

Police said the growing number of involved counties leads investigators to believe that the number of fraudulent records might be in the hundreds.

The possible fraudulent information is a combination of fake names, addresses and dates of birth with real information.

As part of the expanded investigation, State Police detectives served a search warrant for the business offices of the Indiana Voter Registration Project in the 2400 block of North Meridian Street.

The search warrant was served Tuesday morning, police said. The results of the search are not being released, and the affidavit and search warrant will remain sealed for 30 days.

Responding to unconfirmed allegations circulating on right-wing websites, Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that she does not remember ever joking about targeting the founder of WikiLeaks in a drone strike.

The conservative website True Pundit cited anonymous “State Department sources” in a report on Sunday to claim that Clinton in 2010 suggested to some staff members that the U.S. “drone” Julian Assange of WikiLeaks, whose website had embarrassed the U.S. when it published diplomatic cables, among other documents.

The Obama administration is moving to dismiss charges against an arms dealer it had accused of selling weapons that were destined for Libyan rebels.

Lawyers for the Justice Department on Monday filed a motion in federal court in Phoenix to drop the case against the arms dealer, an American named Marc Turi, whose lawyers also signed the motion.

The deal averts a trial that threatened to cast additional scrutiny on Hillary Clinton’s private emails as Secretary of State, and to expose reported Central Intelligence Agency attempts to arm rebels fighting Libyan leader Moammar Qadhafi.

  11. Selling uniforms for food, Venezuela oil workers feel the pinch
    [By Alexandra Ulmer]
    October 5, 2016

    By Alexandra Ulmer

MARACAIBO, Venezuela (Reuters) – For decades, jobs at Venezuela’s state-run oil giant PDVSA were coveted for above average salaries, generous benefits and cheap credit that brought home ownership and vacationing abroad within reach for many workers.

Now, in Venezuela’s asphyxiating economy, even PDVSA employees are struggling to pay for everything from food and bus rides to school fees as triple-digit inflation eats away incomes.

They are pawning goods, maxing out credit cards, taking side jobs, and even selling PDVSA uniforms to buy food, according to Reuters’ interviews with two dozen workers, family members, and union leaders.

“Every day a PDVSA worker comes to sell his overall,” said Elmer, a hawker at the biggest market in the oil city of Maracaibo, as shoppers eyed pricey rice and flour imported from neighboring Colombia.

“They also sell boots, trousers, gloves and masks.”

I understand that Putin worries about this a great deal. He’s a natural street-fighter and expert martial artist. That’s his instinct. It may not be possible for him to switch tracks to tackle this problem.

He does listen to advisors, though. And seems receptive to those who suggest measures that might help. Like getting out the genuine Good News. Generous support for the Orthodox Church, tolerance for other organized religious expression.*

Specific measures, like promotion of benefits for married couples with children, might help. But so much is stymied by the monumental endemic corruption, together with the pessimism it generates…

      • J.E. Dyer is worried about the latest moves in the Mideast, and what is scaring me is the Obama orders for US planes to attack Syrian Army positions. Putin can play his games and it wouldn’t worry me too much but Putin positioning himself as the major arbitrator in the Mideast and Obama ordering attacks on Syrian Army positions are a horse of a very different color. Remember Obama wants to destroy the US, he has cut our military to the bone and has scrapped most of the military weapons that are excess to the needs of the modern small Army. Now he is setting things up where one small accident can cause a shooting incident with causalities on one or both sides with Russia.

The bombing runs will do nothing to change the military situation in Syria or Iraq and probably won’t create good headlines for Obama or Hillary.

I don’t know how much you know about how WWI started by it was an assassination of an Austrian Grand Duke that touched off the war. With the exception of some nationalists in Bosnia and Serbia no one wanted the war but everyone was sucked into the war. This stupidity (or deliberate provocation) by Obama has the potential of repeating the start of WWI, no one outside of a few Moslems wants a major war but we seem to be headed to one. DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) warned Saudi naval vessels taking part in military exercises in the Gulf on Wednesday not to get close to Iranian waters, in a sign of heightened tensions between the two regional rivals.

Saudi Arabia began naval war games including live fire exercises on Tuesday in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important oil route.

Tehran and Riyadh are fighting several proxy wars in the Middle East, including in Syria and Yemen, but both have been cautious about direct military confrontation.

“The Revolutionary Guards naval forces believe this war game is mainly to create tension and destabilize the Persian Gulf,” the IRGC said in a statement published on Tasnim news agency.

About 17 million barrels per day, or about 30 percent of all seaborne-traded oil, passed through the Strait of Hormuz in 2013, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The United States, the kingdom’s leading non-Arab ally, said in August and September that IRGC vessels “harassed” U.S. warships several times in the Gulf in incidents that Washington described as “unsafe and unprofessional.”

  15. Philippine defense chief says Duterte may be ‘misinformed’ on U.S. alliance

MANILA (Reuters) – The Philippine defense minister sought to patch up cracks in a military alliance with the United States on Wednesday, saying President Rodrigo Duterte, who has appeared intent on scrapping joint programs, might be misinformed about their value.

Referring to recent strongly worded comments by Duterte, in which he has declared that the Philippines military gained little from U.S. security ties, Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the armed forces were still weak and the country got a lot out of the U.S. relationship.

“That’s why I said the president was misinformed, because I think the information he is getting is incomplete,” Lorenzana told reporters, a day after the launch of the latest round of PHIBLEX military exercises involving troops from both sides.

“Maybe, the defense ministry and the armed forces were remiss in providing him the correct information. This, we will address in the coming days.”

The United States has been on the receiving end of a torrent of hostility from Duterte, who was angered by U.S. expressions of concern over his war on drugs.

On Tuesday, Duterte said U.S. President Barack Obama should “go to hell” and that in his time, he might “break up” with Washington, with which Manila has had a security treaty since 1951.

  16. Baghdad bridles at Turkey’s military presence, warns of ‘regional war’

BAGHDAD/ANKARA (Reuters) – Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has warned Turkey that it risks triggering a regional war by keeping troops in Iraq, as each summoned the other’s ambassador in a growing row.

Relations between the two regional powers are already broadly strained by the Syrian civil war and the rise of the Islamic State militant group.

Turkey’s parliament voted last week to extend its military presence in Iraq for a further year to take on what it called “terrorist organizations” – a likely reference to Kurdish rebels as well as Islamic State.

Iraq’s parliament responded on Tuesday night by condemning the vote and calling for Turkey to pull its estimated 2,000 troops out of areas across northern Iraq.

“We have asked the Turkish side more than once not to intervene in Iraqi matters and I fear the Turkish adventure could turn into a regional war,” Abadi warned in comments broadcast on state TV on Wednesday.

“The Turkish leadership’s behavior is not acceptable and we don’t want to get into a military confrontation with Turkey.”

  17. Hard rain: In Syria, with the SA-23 missile system, Russia is realizing a 300-year-old dream

The brief period of perfunctory “cooperation” between the U.S. and Russia in Syria is well and truly over, and nothing signals that quite as clearly as the deployment of the SA-23 air defense missile system.

We already knew this, to a large extent. Russia and her coalition launched a concerted campaign to retake western Syria in mid-September, and they’re fighting it now, without regard for life or property. They’re fighting to win: to gain control of the territory and push the rebels out of it, no matter what it takes.

The Obama administration warned peevishly last week that the Russians are finding themselves in a quagmire. But that’s only if the Russian coalition fails to simply obliterate everything it has to, to reclaim the territory held by the rebels.

The coalition will not fail to do that. The reason is that no one is going to stop it. Obama and the media seem to be slow learners in this regard, still fondly imagining that some unenforced, artificial compunction about what happens to the Syrians will act as a brake on the Russian coalition’s intentions. Can the Western left really be that thick?

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2016/10/05/hard-rain-syria-sa-23-missile-system-russia-realizing-300-year-old-dream/

    • This analysis has some profound information and shows a change in the Middle East (not really a change but the realization of a change that took place several months ago).

First thing is to forget the comments I made on two earlier posts about Russia preparing for war with the US being propaganda. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1913898/russian-state-newspapers-predict-direct-military-conflict-with-us-as-it-compares-syria-stalemate-to-cuban-missile-crisis/ and the Russian bomber over flight of Europe https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1913898/russian-state-newspapers-predict-direct-military-conflict-with-us-as-it-compares-syria-stalemate-to-cuban-missile-crisis/ being Put9ing giving the west the finger.

What they are is telling us that things have changed in Syria and that we can’t do anything about the change. The change in tactics and the weapons being installed are saying that Russia is in Syria to stay. Assad is no longer an Iranian puppet but has become a Russian Puppet. The Russian Bear has achieved a major dream and it is a twofer, They have flanked Europe and Turkey and placed both in a very precarious position. Russia is now in the position to dominate the entire Middle East (look at the maps).

This change has made it vital that Trump wins the election because the next President needs to be a person who will rapidly rebuild the US military by removing all of the cultural Marxist policies and rapidly increasing the size of the military to one that can fight two large scale wars at the same time.

      • Russia is now the hegemon in the Mideast. She controls the sky over the eastern Mediterranean. Devastating.

        Caroline wrote:
For four years, the Iranians, Hezbollah and Bashar Assad played a cat and mouse game with the rebel militias.

Fighting a guerrilla war with the help of the Sunni population, the anti-regime militias were able to fight from and hide from within the civilian population. Consequently, they were all but impossible to defeat.

When Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to join the fight, he and his generals soon recognized that this manner of fighting ensured perpetual war. So they changed tactics. The new strategy involves speeding up the depopulation and ethnic cleansing of rebel-held areas. The massive refugee flows from Syria over the past year are a testament to the success of the barbaric war plan. The idea is to defeat the rebel forces by to destroying the sheltering civilian populations.
        […]
By adopting a strategy of total war, Putin has ensured that far from becoming the quagmire that President Barack Obama warned him Syria would become, the war in Syria has instead become a means to transform Russia into the dominant superpower in the Mediterran, at the United States’ expense.

In exchange for saving Assad’s neck and enabling Iran and Hezbollah to control Syria, Russia has received the capacity to successfully challenge US power. Last month Putin brought an agreement with Assad before the Duma for ratification. The agreement permits – indeed invites – Russia to set up a permanent air base in Khmeimim, outside the civilian airport in Latakia.

Russian politicians, media and security experts have boasted that the base will be able to check the power of the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet and challenge NATO’s southern flank in the Mediterranean basin for the first time. The Russians have also decided to turn their naval station at Tartus into something approaching a fullscale naval base.

With Russia’s recent rapprochement with Turkish President Recip Erdogan, NATO’s future ability to check Russian power through the Incirlik air base is in question.

Even Israel’s ability to permit the US access to its air bases is no longer assured. Russia has deployed air assets to Syria that have canceled Israel’s regional air superiority.

Under these circumstances, in a hypothetical Russian-US confrontation, Israel may be unwilling to risk Russian retaliation for a decision to permit the US to use its air bases against Russia.
        […]
On Wednesday Ray Takeyh wrote in The Washington Post that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is now grooming Ibrahim Raisi, a fanatic who makes Khamenei look moderate, to succeed him in power.

On Monday night, for the first time, Israel Air Force jets flying over Syria were shot at by Syrian anti-aircraft ordnance.

Air force sources told the media that the aircraft were never in danger and the munitions were only shot off after the aircraft had returned to Israel and were in the process off landing.

The fact that no one was hurt is of course reassuring.

But the fact that Russia targeted the planes makes clear that Putin has decided to send Israel a very clear and menacing message.

He is now the protector of the Iranian-Hezbollah colony on our northern border. If Israel decides to preemptively attack targets belong to that colony, Russia will not stand by and watch. And with the US no longer well-positioned to challenge Russian power in the region, Israel will have to deal with Russia on its own.

        http://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Column-One-The-New-Middle-East-469141

        • When 0 sneered quagmire, I knew Putin would choke us on that word.
And recently the Jackass of State’s mouthpiece casually said something about “Russian bodybags piling up”.

I can’t think of two words more likely to cost lives of our people. If we can’t do Diplomacy 101, we should muzzle spokesbimbos.

[I declare 'bimbo' to be gender-neutral.]

          • I still think Obama’s “mistakes” are deliberate actions intended to damage or destroy the US. Right now the US should leave the Middle East with the exception of supplying Israel with weapons and other munitions. Putin doesn’t want a war (although he is enjoying rubbing our noses in our current weakness) but I am not so sure Obama doesn’t want one.

Reasons we are in trouble if a war starts:

            1) Obama has us at the lowest military level since well before WWII started.

            2) The race problems the left has stirred up will really hurt any effort to win a war.

            3) We have what is probably several 10s of thousands of Islamic soldiers inside the US.

            4) We have massive numbers of illegals from all over the world inside the US, how many would help us and how many would hurt.

In a war it would take the US a year to a year and a half to stop most of the home grown and foreign terror and sabotage attacks. During this time we would also be doing a crash rebuild on our military and military equipment.

All it takes for this nightmare to become reality is one misplaced bomb run or some artilleryman to screw up the targeting on one or two salvos.

            • 2008 was a coup.
If only the Enemy Administration would STFU…!!
They won’t, they can’t. They’re all words. Cheap hot air, bad breath.

              • As long as we can keep the current military leaders from obeying an Obama order to launch nukes we will end up fighting to a draw.

Russia is in better shape internally for a war but in the long run the US will recover from the damage that Obama has inflicted and quickly become strong enough to make a conventional war to expensive in lives for Putin to keep fighting. The problem is that we don’t know what the Russian surrogates are going to do and a lot of them are so crazy Putin doesn’t know either. The US surrogates are becoming more and more limited thanks to Obama.

                • I figure really stupid orders to our military won’t be followed. They could be slow-dragged fumbled for the next 106 days, 12 hours, and 38 minutes.

              • I forgot to say that I doubt Putin will launch first, he knows that as long as nukes aren’t flying Russia can lose the war and return to his rule within a decade or less. He also knows that if the war spreads if he is losing he can switch sides and help the US against China and remain in control of Russia.

                • He might easily shoot one of our fighters down “by accident”. Or engage in something more messy under false- or ambiguous- flag. He’s got to put some hurt on us; it’s just who he is.

But he’s not going to nuke us.

I think you’re onto something with him keeping options open and Russia first, last, and always. I can see him switching sides, turning on a dime. China may indeed become too big and too arrogant for everybody’s comfort zone. Especially with its pet pitbull killer, Kim Jong Il.

Somewhere down the line he might present his services as savior of Christian Europe. First he’ll neutralize the Middle East by making sure Moslems keep murdering each other. He’s not above throwing Israel into the meat grinder, either. Not a bit.

Then he’ll orchestrate a plea for help from white Christian Europe. He won’t be all that finicky about mass deportations of undesirable enemy aliens – dead or alive. Or pulverizing no-go zones.

                • That scenario is highly believable, The thing to remember when trying to figure what Putin is doing is that he is out for what he considers best for Russia. That includes him staying in power for the rest of his life because he doesn’t trust others to care for Russia.

He has positioned himself to be the protector of the Christian religion and what is still the semi Christian Europe. However to do this he thinks he has to be in charge of Europe, by influence if not by fact. Once things go kinetic the Europeans need to watch him as closely as they watch the Moslems.

                  • White Christian Europe will need him more than the Allies needed Stalin. And Russia needs more white Christians of all flavors.

(Jews are also welcome now, but who knows?).

Not all human capital is the same.

I figure more than half the young adult population of Europe will fall in with the Soros-Eurabia axis.

                  • All of Europe will need him, If things to the way I think they will it won’t be long before the White Europeans of all religions will welcome a strong man who will deport or kill the Moslems and save what is left of European culture. He may be that strong man, or they may go with Orban or some Western European leaders who steps up and performs.

    • When I was a kid people use to say “don’t trust anything you read and only half of what you see”.That half of what you see needs to be changed to a lower figure.

  18. Two Belgium police officers stabbed in suspected ‘terror’ attack in Brussels

One officer was stabbed in the neck and the other was stabbed in the stomach before the male suspect was shot in the leg by police

Two police officers have been stabbed and a male suspect has been shot in a suspected ‘terror’ attack in Brussels.

The knife attack occurred in the neighbourhood of Schaerbeek shortly before noon local time.

The officers were checking a man when he pulled out a knife and attacked them, HLN reported.

One officer suffered a knife wound to the neck while the other suffered a wound to the abdomen.

A third officer was punched in the face as the suspect resisted arrest.

The suspect was shot in the leg but his injuries were not serious, HLN reported.

The motive is still being investigated but there is reason to believe it was “a terrorist attack”, said Eric Van Der Sypt, a spokesman for Belgium’s federal prosecutors.

Belgian counter terror prosecutors stepped in to investigate the incident, an indication the case was being treated as a possible militant attack.

It was one of two incidents which sent a scare through Brussels on Wednesday.

Earlier, a bomb threat at the Brussels-North train station turned out to be a false alarm.

      http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-37563836

“Two police officers have been stabbed in Brussels in a possible terrorist incident, Belgian prosecutors say.

One officer was stabbed in the neck and another in the stomach, while a third officer who arrived at the scene in Schaerbeek district suffered a broken nose, Belgian broadcaster VRT reports.

The attacker was shot in the leg and taken away by ambulance.

Authorities have named the attacker as “Hicham D”, 43, of Belgian nationality.

Belgian media report that Hicham D is known to Belgian police and is believed to have links to jihadists who travelled to Syria to fight. He also served as a Belgian army officer until 2009.

“We have reason to believe that the incident was a terrorist attack,” a spokesman for the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office, Eric Van Der Sypt, said.

Belgian prosecutors said the officers had not suffered life-threatening injuries.

The attack happened near a main road in a region linked to previous terror attacks.

It comes just hours after commuters were evacuated from Brussels Nord station over a bomb scare.

Belgium has been on high alert following attacks in Brussels on the airport and the city’s metro system in March, which killed 35 people and injured more than 300.

The attacks were claimed by the Islamic State (IS) militant group.”

World leaders are meeting in Brussels to raise billions of dollars for Afghanistan, to keep the country running until 2020.

    • Afghanistan aid: Donors promise $15.2bn in Brussels (BBC, Oct 5, 2016)
      http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-37560704

“International donors have pledged $15.2bn (€13.5bn ; £11.9bn) in aid to help Afghanistan until 2020.

Over 70 countries attended the talks in Brussels, hosted by the EU.

Closing the meeting, European Commissioner for International Development Neven Mimica called the sum “a remarkable, impressive amount”.

“Now is not the time to reduce our ambition or our investment in the people of Afghanistan,” he added.

The amount pledged is only slightly less than the $4bn a year that the international community promised at the last Afghanistan conference in Tokyo in 2012.

Ahead of the meeting, the overseas countries were expected to pledge around $3bn in aid a year.

Afghanistan will be asked to do more to tackle corruption and to take back tens of thousands of failed asylum seekers.

The country faces a resurgent Taliban and remains reliant on foreign help, 15 years after the militants were ousted.

“We’re buying four more years for Afghanistan,” said EU special representative Franz-Michael Mellbin…”

  21. Bavaria state investigators say gunman who killed 9 at Munich mall practiced shooting in basement of apartment building

  22. Qurans put in the garbage by the Saudi embassy in Rabat cause fury in Morocco

Some rather strange photos were circulated on Moroccan social media this week. Piles of books, carefully bound in a range of rich colors, lying sadly in the middle of a wasteland.

Damningly they were copies of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. They were snapped next to a garbage dump causing outrage across Morocco, according to a report by HuffPost Arabi.

According to Islamic hadiths (sayings from the prophet of Islam, Muhammad), the Quran should be treated with the utmost respect when being stored or handled. Aside from being treated with such care, it should not be made dirty.

The source of the abandoned holy texts, it has appeared, is even more shocking. The Qurans came from the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Rabat – a state not known for taking its interpretation of Islam lightly – says HuffPost Arabi.

The story was reported in various other Arabic-language news sites as well.

In light of the outcry, however, the Kingdom’s representative has issued an explanation for its mistreatment of religious books.

According to the Saudi website Ajel, the books were being kept in the basement of the embassy where they were exposed to rain. Officials said they instructed workers to carry the books to outside to burn them in a safe place, but their requests were ignored by employees who allegedly dumped the books on the floor.

The accounts of officials could not be immediately verified by Al Bawaba.

  23. French Reporter Attacked by Islamists While Shooting Show
The film team discovered that several strains of Islam — moderate, fundamentalist and jihadist — are in fierce competition on French soil.

On September 28, 2016, French TV channel M6 kicked off its new series Taboo Dossier with a documentary by investigative reporter Bernard de la Villardière titled Islam in France: the Failure of the Republic.

The two-hour piece aimed to examine the compatibility of Islam with the values of the French Republic and its place in French society.

During the investigation, Villardière and his team discovered that several strains of Islam — moderate, fundamentalist and jihadist — are in fierce competition on French soil.

These strains are financed, controlled and manipulated by foreign powers. Those who preach in mosques throughout France are the mouthpieces of Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Morocco and Turkey. They found that extremist imams are gaining ground at the expense of moderate Muslims, who sometimes receive death threats.

Faced with this lack of governance, a powerful federation is seeking to exercise control over all Muslims. The UOIF (Union of Islamic Organizations in France) is the French subsidiary of the Muslim Brotherhood, a secret society whose objective is to cut off the Muslim community from the rest of society, to encroach on the public sphere in the name of freedom of expression and gradually set up sharia law in France.

  24. UK -FREE SPEECH CRACKDOWN: EU orders British press NOT to reveal when terrorists are Muslims

MEDDLING Brussels has said the British press should not report when terrorists are Muslims in a slew of demands to the Government to crack down on the media.

A report from the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) found there was an increase in hate speech and racist violence in the UK from 2009 to March 2016.

Blaming the press, ECRI Chair Christian Ahlund, said: “It is no coincidence that racist violence is on the rise in the UK at the same time as we see worrying examples of intolerance and hate speech in the newspapers, online and even among politicians.”

The report makes a whopping 23 recommendations to Theresa May’s Government for changes to criminal law, the freedom of the press, crime reporting and equality law.

And despite the report not analysing coverage of the historic Brexit vote, Mr Ahlund saw fit to comment on the UK’s decision to leave the EU.

In a sweeping statement, he said: “The Brexit referendum seems to have led to a further rise in ‘anti-foreigner’ sentiment, making it even more important that the British authorities take the steps outlined in our report as a matter of priority.”

The report lays into the British press and urges the government to “give more rigorous training” to reporters.

In the 83-page report, the Commission said: “ECRI considers that, in light of the fact that Muslims are increasingly under the spotlight as a result of recent ISIS-related terrorist acts around the world, fuelling prejudice against Muslims shows a reckless disregard, not only for the dignity of the great majority of Muslims in the United Kingdom, but also for their safety.

“In this context, it draws attention to a recent study by Teeside University suggesting that where the media stress the Muslim background of perpetrators of terrorist acts, and devote significant coverage to it, the violent backlash against Muslims is likely to be greater than in cases where the perpetrators’ motivation is downplayed or rejected in favour of alternative explanations.”

Despite the creation of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) in 2014 as an independent regulator for newspapers and magazines, the “ECRI strongly recommends that the authorities find a way to establish an independent press regulator according to the recommendations set out in the Leveson Report. It recommends more rigorous training for journalists to ensure better compliance with ethical standards.”

But as Britain prepares to leave the crumbling bloc, the Government waded in to defend freedom of expression.

In a written statement to the ECRI, the Government said: “The Government is committed to a free and open press and does not interfere with what the press does and does not publish, as long as the press abides by the law.”

ECRI is a human rights body of the Council of Europe, composed of independent experts, which monitors problems of racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, intolerance and racial discrimination.

The group writes reports on every member state every five years and says the documents are “analyses based on a great deal of information gathered from a wide variety of sources.

ECRI visited the UK in November 2015 as it gathered evidence for the report.

In a statement, ECRI said: “ECRI welcomed, among other things, the entry into force of the Equality Act 2010 and the generally strong legislation against racism and racial discrimination in the country, as well as the government’s new hate crime action plan and substantial efforts to promote LGBT rights in the UK which have led to a significant change in attitudes.

“At the same time, the commission noted considerable intolerant political discourse in the UK, particularly focusing on immigration. It said that hate speech continues to be a serious problem in tabloid newspapers, and that online hate speech targeting Muslims in particular has soared since 2013.”

  25. Iran’s Massacre and Rising Crimes Against Humanity

Iran’s massacre of more than 30,000 people was recently disclosed by Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri’s son, Ahmad, a moderate cleric, who posted a confidential audio of his father on his website but was ordered by Iran’s intelligence service to remove it.

Born in Esfahan, Iran, Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri was one of the founding fathers of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is a human rights activist, an Islamic theologian, and was the designated successor to the Islamic revolution’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, until the very last moments of Khomeini’s life. His pictures were posted next to Khomeini’s in the streets.

    In the recording, Montazeri states:

“You [Iranian officials] will be in the future etched in the annals of history as criminals. The greatest crime committed under the Islamic Republic, from the beginning of the Revolution until now, which will be condemned by history, is this crime [mass executions] committed by you.”

While some international human rights organizations, the Obama Administration and the United Nations appear to have turned a blind eye this massacre and other crimes against humanity, several officials have taken steps. A U.S. House of Representatives Resolution condemning the massacres and other executions was introduced by the House Homeland Security Chair, Mike McCaul, and cosponsored by Chairman Ed Royce, Ranking Member Eliot Engel, and Rules Committee Chair Pete Sessions. The resolution was introduced when Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who heads a government that is ranked number one in the world for executions per capita, was addressing the 71st Session of the United Nation General Assembly. During his speech, according to the Associated Press, an unprecedented number of protesters gathered in Dag Hammerskjold Plaza outside the UN — including Senator Joe Lieberman, and Sir Geoffrey Robertson, former Head of the UN war crimes tribunal for Sierra Leone, who wrote a report on Iran’s 1988 massacre that was published on the United Nations Arts Initiative website.

  26. CHILLING PREDICTION Planet Earth could be heading for an ICE AGE as face of The Sun ‘goes blank’

Climate experts issue terrifying warning which will literally send shivers down every human’s spine
    by JASPER HAMILL
    3rd October 2016, 6:57 pm

The Sun has “gone blank” and it could herald the arrival of an Ice Age, it has been claimed.

This chilling prediction is based on analysis of the solar surface, which is currently exhibiting a distinct lack of action.

Normally, the face of our parent star is pocked by sunspots.

But it’s looking as smooth as a billiard ball right now and sunspots are appearing at the lowest rate for 10,000 years as solar activity slows down.

On the website Space Weather, a forecaster said there were more blank suns to come.

“There will be lots of spotless suns,” they said.

“At first, the blank stretches will be measured in days; later in weeks and months.

“The current blank spell is the 4th such interval of 2016, so far.”

    • The following is the editors comment and link for the liberty unyielding posting of the article:

[Ed. – Based on the solar-minimum calculations from 3-4 years ago, it is time for the sun wake up now. I think most scientists thought it would. Note that the inactive sun in the image above is from 2015, and was posted more than 15 months ago. Compare it to the recent 2016 image at the UK Sun link. Scientists have been reporting the unusually low sun activity since at least 2014. The least sunspot activity in 10,000 years would — if it bears out — have to have a meaningful effect on earth’s climate patterns.]

  27. U.S. Welcomed a Record Number of Muslim Refugees in 2016 (nbcnews, Oct 5, 2016)
    http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/u-s-welcomed-record-number-muslim-refugees-2016-n660231

“The U.S. admitted a record number of Muslim refugees in fiscal year 2016, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of data from the State Department’s Refugee Processing Center.

Of the nearly 85,000 refugees who entered the country from Oct. 1, 2015, through Sept. 30, 2016, some 46 percent were Muslim, Pew found. The total — 38,901 — marks the highest number of Muslim refugees admitted since data on self-reported religious affiliations first became available in 2002.

A similar number of Christian refugees — 37,521, or 44 percent — were admitted over the course of the fiscal year.

This is the first time in a decade that a smaller percentage of refugees were Christian versus Muslim. The last time was fiscal year 2006, when a large number of Somali refugees came into the U.S., according to Pew.

Somalia (9,012 refugees) and Syria (12,486 refugees), were the source of more than half of the Muslim refugees who came in during this fiscal year. The rest, Pew said, came from Iraq (7,853), Myanmar (3,145), Afghanistan (2,664) and other countries (3,741).

Last year, amid the ongoing war in Syria, the Obama administration set a goal of accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees in the U.S. That goal was met at the end of August.

“On behalf of the President and his Administration, I extend the warmest of welcomes to each and every one of our Syrian arrivals, as well as the many other refugees resettled this year from all over the world,” Susan Rice, President Obama’s national security adviser, said in a statement at the time.

The process has been fraught with fears from some that by letting refugees in, the U.S. is becoming a safe haven for those with ties to terrorists…”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/mali-land-mine-kills-soldiers-injures-north-42596374

“An army spokesman in Mali says three soldiers have been killed and one injured when their vehicle hit a land mine.

Col. Abdoulaye Sidibe said the incident occurred Wednesday in the northern Timbuktu region. It comes one day after armed men ambushed the convoy of a local official west of Timbuktu, killing one soldier and injuring two others.

On Monday, two vehicles carrying Chadian peacekeepers hit land mines in the northern Kidal region, and one of the soldiers later died of his injuries.

Islamic extremists took control of northern Mali in 2012, prompting a French-led intervention that drove them from stronghold cities and towns in 2013. But north and central Mali remain unstable, and attacks by al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb and allied groups against peacekeepers and security forces are common.”

“Pakistan’s military on Wednesday accused India of another “unprovoked” attack in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, saying it “befittingly” responded by returning fire, a sign of increasing tension between the two nuclear-armed archrivals.

In a statement, the military said Pakistani and Indian troops were still exchanging fire in Kashmir.

An Indian army officer said Pakistani troops fired small arms and mortars at Indian military positions at three places along the Line of Control. The officer, speaking on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the reporters, said Indian soldiers “befittingly responded to unprovoked cease-fire violations.”

    No casualties were reported…”

  30. ISIS Calls for Random Knife Attacks in Alleys, Forests, Beaches, ‘Quiet Neighborhoods’

A new magazine issued by the Islamic State advises lone jihadists to get over any squeamishness about using knives and embrace sharp objects as “widely available” weapons of jihad in nighttime stabbing campaigns.

ISIS’ Al-Hayat Media Center issued the second issue of its magazine Rumiyah, meaning Rome, in English, Turkish, German, French, Indonesian, Russian, Arabic and Uyghur. The design of the magazine is more simple than ISIS’ English-language Dabiq. It’s also much shorter: 38 pages compared to the 82 pages in the last issue of Dabiq.

  31. Brussels stabbing: Two police officers knifed and suspect shot in horrifying attack

    By Chris kitching

One officer was stabbed in the neck and the other was stabbed in the stomach before the attacker was shot in the leg by police

Two police officers have been stabbed and a male suspect – reportedly a former soldier – has been shot in horrifying attack in Brussels.

There were early suggestions that the assault might have been terror-related, but this is currently unclear.

The knife attack occurred on a street in Schaerbeek – which has been called ‘a breeding ground for terror’ and was home to a bomb-making factory by the ISIS jihadists who carried out recent attacks in Brussels and Paris.

The man – identified as Hicham D – pulled out a knife and ‘spontaneously’ attacked the officers, whose injuries are not life-threatening, said federal prosecutors.

One officer was stabbed in the neck while the other was stabbed in the stomach.

The suspect tried to run away and assaulted a third officer, but was shot in the leg and arrested.

Police shot and killed a machete-wielding suspect inside the Champions Center at the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field this morning after they say the man refused to drop his weapon.

Campus police, at a morning news conference following the officer-involved shooting, said they did not know the man’s motive for entering the athletics center with a weapon.

A source close to the investigation told the Daily Camera that the suspect was a white male who appeared to be a “religious zealot of some kind” and who had been overheard talking about “looking for sinners” and referencing the commandments.

Emergency responders were alerted around 9:15 a.m. that a man with a machete had entered the Champions Center, the newly expanded athletics and sports-medicine facility west of Folsom Street on Stadium Drive on CU’s Boulder campus.

  33. OTTAWA CITIZEN – Islamophobic ‘feminism’ doesn’t help Muslim women

Time and tired time again, we have seen how the claim of standing up for Muslim women has served as a pretext for singling out Islam and Muslims for excoriation. This was the case in the recent furor over Toronto’s Valley Park Middle School providing space for Muslim students to pray (in which girls and boys sat separately), and in the previous federal government’s efforts to prohibit women in niqabs from becoming Canadian citizens.

The castigation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for attending an Ottawa mosque on Eid ul-Adha is the latest in this string of manufactured controversies. Trudeau’s recent visit to the mosque, where men and women pray in separate areas (but are mixed during other events), has been condemned as a betrayal of “feminism” and collusion with patriarchy.

Never mind that some of Canada’s most élite educational institutions also practise the apparently cardinal sin of gender separation, in the form of single-sex schools. And never mind that former prime minister Stephen Harper also visited religious spaces where men and women are separated, including the Western Wall in Jerusalem in 2014.

It is high time we saw through the pretence that these campaigns against Muslim “misogyny” have anything to do with the well-being of Muslim women.

If they did, one would expect them to be more concerned with accuracy than with sensationalism. For example, one commentator’s assertion that a female prime minister would not have been allowed to address the Ottawa mosque from the front is contradicted by the fact that several women, including Ottawa West-Nepean MP Anita Vandenbeld and Islamic Studies Prof. Ingrid Mattson, have done precisely that.

And one would expect them to pay some attention to the actual voices, experiences and perspectives of the women whose rights and interests are at stake, instead of completely ignoring most except for the few who represent Islam as the entire cause of Muslim women’s suffering.

This is not solidarity with Muslim women, but racism thinly veiled in the language of “feminism.”

While the demonization of Islam and Muslims as exceptionally oppressive certainly advances the cause of racist stereotyping, it does little to benefit the women in whose interests these sometime champions for equality claim to speak. On the contrary, Muslim women bear a heavy part of the burden of violence and hatred generated by these stereotypes.

According to Statistics Canada, “from 2010 to 2013, Muslim populations had the highest percentage of hate crime victims who were female (47 per cent).” Women wearing the hijab and the niqab have been physically attacked in cities across Canada and the United States. A few weeks ago, two Muslim women were assaulted while strolling their babies in Brooklyn; their assailant punched one of the women in the face, tried to rip off their headscarves, and yelled “Get the f— out of America, b—–s.” In June, a Muslim woman was punched, spat on and had her hijab pulled while shopping with her four-month-old son in London, Ont.

The critics who are so incensed by the subjugation of Muslim women tend to be conspicuously silent when the agents of violence are non-Muslims, motivated by the Islamophobic narratives that they have helped perpetuate. So much for a principled stand against gendered violence and inequality.

In Canada, Muslim women have been at the forefront of vital struggles for justice, equality, and freedom: Monia Mazigh, who advocated for the liberation of her husband, Maher Arar, when he was secretly imprisoned and tortured in Syria with Canadian complicity; Zunera Ishaq, who successfully challenged the government’s discriminatory ban on face-veils at citizenship ceremonies; Yusra Khogali, who is an organizer with Black Lives Matter Toronto; Rania El-Alloul, who is asking the Quebec government to assure Quebecers they have a right to wear their religious clothing in the province’s courtrooms; and far too many others to list them all by name.

We are fighting the struggles that need to be fought on several fronts: against sexism, against racism, against Islamophobia. We do not need to be told what to wear on our faces and on our heads and on our bodies, or where to sit when we pray. And we definitely do not need to be “saved” by ideologues who are only interested in Islam to prove its supposed inferiority, or as a proxy for attacking a political party. It is an insult to Muslim women’s agency and intelligence to be rendered silent puppets in a stale supremacist script.

SAUDI ARABIA – Slaughtering of 6-year-old girl by her stepmother shocks Saudis

The slaughtering of Reem al-Rushaidi, a 6-year-old schoolgirl, by her stepmother on Monday, outside her home in the eastern Al-Ahsa governorate has shocked Saudis.

The stepmother, who is said to be in her 30s, came to Rushaidi’s elementary school to take the young girl after she finished two of her classes only to kill her stepdaughter outside her home in Mahasin neighborhood.

A witness, who reported the gruesome incident, told Al Arabiya.net that he saw the stepmother slaughtering Rushaidi at 9 o’clock in the morning, which prompted him to “run after her [stepmother] but she managed to escape to her home.”

On Twitter, Saudis expressed their disdain over the incident, when one user wrote: “How was it possible for the [stepmother] to look into her eyes during the horrendous crime. May Allah take his vengeance.”

Spokesman for the eastern region Lieutenant Ziyad al-Raqeeti at 9 o’clock on Monday the police was notified that a 6-year-old citizen was killed and her corpse found near her home. The police also has found the knife used to slaughter the girl.

Local sources said that the killer is one among the four wives without providing details whether there was any issue between her and Rushaidi’s mother.

The sources also said that the stepmother did not show any remorse over her crime.

    • Shouldn’t shock the Saudis. Craziness runs in the family.
Fake “shock” to pretend they’re normal human beings, when – in fact – they’re only normal Muslims.

  36. Is Putin preparing for WW3? Russia begins evacuation of FORTY MILLION PEOPLE in huge drill

The huge four-day “civil defence” drill has set alarm bells ringing in Washington and London, with tensions already high over disagreements in Syria.

Following a breakdown in communication between the USA and Russia, the Kremlin has now organised the huge emergency practice drill – either as a show of force or something more sinister.

The drill will prepare Russian citizens for “large natural and man-made disasters”, according to the country’s Ministery for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disaster.

The ministry revealed 40 million civilians, 200,000 emergency rescuers and 50,000 units of equipment are involved in the war game, which is running from October 4 to October 7.

A spokesman said in a statement: “The main goal of the drill is to practice organisation of management during civil defence events and emergency and fire management, to check preparedness of management bodies and forces of civil defence on all levels to respond to natural and man-made disasters and to take civil defence measures.”

They explained the scheme would be divided into three stages: awareness, planning and evacuation.
The statement said: “The drill will rehearse radiation, chemical and biological protection of the personnel and population during emergencies at crucial and potentially dangerous facilities.

“Fire safety, civil defence and human protection at social institutions and public buildings are also planned to be checked. Response units will deploy radiation, chemical and biological monitoring centres and sanitation posts at the emergency areas, while laboratory control networks are going to be put on standby.”
