Aaron Yoon needed government help reading the Koran? It thought religious institutions gave them out for free. I also thought these same religious institutions help you interpret them. So what help did he need? Seriously what help did he need?
My spouse has the same skin color as Yoon. She has experienced discrimination. One time was when she applied for a McArthur scholarship for minority women. To apply you needed a bachelors degree. Check! You need to be interested in obtaining a Masters degree. Check! I assume their grade point was 3.4 or better. You needed to be female. Check! And during this time we were making 12k to 18k. Last but not easy you needed to be a minority. Check!
Not so fast. Like in the book Animal Farm some Animals are more equal than others. So maybe I am too hard on Yoon. Canada is a fairly liberal place. But he might just be one minority too many. Still so many Asians succeed in Canada I think it more about him being a confused adolescent and then an angry Muslim, than lack of opportunity.
I don’t feel too sorry for Yoon. My spouse with a work record of 4 years in the home country and a college degree had as their 1st job as making French fries, then cashier & then a part time gig in her profession (they did not have to pay benefits that way). Finally it things were better after 3 years. the problem is with Mr Yoon.
You can learn the Bible or the Koran just as easily in your home province or state as overseas. It a person wants to learn more overseas shouldn’t they have a certain level of proficiency 1st?
John Walker Lindh or Yoon could have learned Arabic & the Koran in a major Western city. It is a little harder to conduct military training in the West undetected.
