    • France: Paris Mayor announces plans to open first refugee camp

      Paris Mayor Anne Hidagli announced plans to open the city’s first refugee centre, during a press conference on Tuesday.

      The shelter will open around mid-October at Porte de la Chapelle North of Paris, and will be soley for men. A second centre, reserved for women and children, will open in Ivry-sur-Seine by the end of the year. The Mayor stated that providing suitable accommodation for refugees and migrants is “an issue of human dignity” and vowed to build more temporary shelters if necessary.

This is a humanitarian responsibility, this is an issue of human dignity and this is an issue that is consistent with the home country of our tradition.”

  6. Trump says U.S. interest rates must change as Fed weighs rate hike

    YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (Reuters) – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has previously accused the Federal Reserve of keeping interest rates low to help President Barack Obama, said on Monday that the U.S. central bank has created a “false economy” and that interest rates should change.

    “They’re keeping the rates down so that everything else doesn’t go down,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s request to address a potential rate hike by the Federal Reserve in September. “We have a very false economy,” he said.

    “At some point the rates are going to have to change,” Trump, who was campaigning in Ohio on Monday, added. “The only thing that is strong is the artificial stock market,” he said.

    Fed Chair Janet Yellen said last month that the U.S. central bank was getting closer to raising interest rates, possibly as early as September, saying that the Fed sees the economy as close to meeting its goals of maximum employment and stable prices.

    The Fed raised interest rates last December for the first time in nearly a decade, and at that time projected four more hikes in 2016. The Fed later scaled back that projection to two rate hikes this year in the wake of a slowdown in global growth and continued financial market volatility.

    • The Fed and the other central banks have been destroying the worlds economy because the politicians refuse to do what good sense and history say they should. The economy is bad so the logical thing to do is reduce the taxes and regulations that are strangling private industry. Private industry are what create jobs and run the economy, when the government taxes to much, requires the businesses to pay too much for labor, requires too much paperwork for the small business or requires too many benefits for the workers the businesses either don’t hire new people or close their doors.

      The leftist politicians refuse to let the private sector have that much power so they refuse to reduce taxes and regulations and then the Central Banks are forced to keep interest rates low even when this causes bubbles in stock prices, real estate prices and in other goods. eventually the market forces will break through and the bubbles burst. When this happens a down turn occurs, one that normally turns into a recession (the lo8 recession really hasn’t recovered but the governments have been fudging the figures to say it did) and in this case may well turn into a depression. One that could hve been avoided it the lft hadn’t insisted on trying to control the economy. The economy is so complicated no one can control it, you can at times call when it is going to boom or bust but no one can control it.

  9. Venezuela Opposition Aims to Take Protest Outside of Caracas

    Venezuela’s opposition is looking to build the momentum of protests against President Nicolas Maduro with more demonstrations this week planned outside of the capital, after it said around a million people marched through Caracas on Thursday.

    Still, it was Maduro’s hostile reception during a walk-about on Margarita Island on Friday evening, when protesters chased him through the Villa Rosa district banging pots and pans, that may give the opposition the biggest boost.

    “We’re interested in reinforcing what’s happening from Caracas to the rest of the Venezuelan provinces,” opposition alliance secretary Jesus “Chuo” Torrealba said Monday in comments broadcast on the Globovision television network referring to the events planned for Wednesday. “Some are calling it the Villa Rosa effect.”

    The release of a video of Maduro being chased by angry protesters was widely shared on social media over the weekend after it was posted on Twitter by opposition leaders including Henrique Capriles. The incident brought back memories of 2014, shortly before nationwide protests erupted, when Maduro was booed in public by crowds attending the opening of the Caribbean Series baseball tournament being played on the island.

    • Venezuelan journalist charged after anti-Maduro protest

      CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — A prominent journalist on the Venezuelan island of Margarita was charged Monday with money laundering and will remain behind bars after publicizing a protest against President Nicolas Maduro.

      Videos of the Friday evening protest, in which residents of a working-class neighborhood banged pots and hurled insults in Maduro’s face, became an instant social media hit encapsulating the frustration many Venezuelans feel with the direction of the socialist-run economy.

      Braulio Jatar, who is also a lawyer, helped spread news of the demonstration on his Margarita-based website, Reporte Confidencial, which supports the opposition.

      His family said he was picked up by intelligence police early Saturday on his way to host his regular morning radio show. Police allege they found him with a suitcase full of cash.

    A drone speedboat that could pave the way for a Royal Navy robot fleet of high-speed reconnaissance and surveillance vessels has been unveiled by defence scientists.

    The 34ft boat can skim across the waves at more than 50kts to track high speed targets, while navigating and dodging other ships without the control of a human.

    Naval commanders believe the Maritime Autonomy Surface Testbed (MAST) could herald a robot fleet of high-speed craft packed with sensors to carry out spy and scouting missions.

  12. Islamic State issues new call for attacks in the West, all non-believers ‘legitimate targets’

    The Islamic State has released a new online magazine urging adherents to carry out more so-called lone-wolf attacks globally.

    Targets for attacks include businessmen on their way to work, young people playing sports in the park and even “the street vendor selling flowers to those passing by.” A photo from what appears to be a British market vendor selling flowers has a caption beneath it that reads “Even the blood of a merry crusader citizen selling flowers to passersby.”

    Jihadis are urged to strike such soft targets with no special precedence to attack soldiers or policemen, but rather to strike terror into the hearts of all disbelievers.

    Rumiyah is a reference to an Islamic prophecy that foretells the downfall of Rome following the collapse of Constantinople which fell in the Muslim conquest of 1415 and calls for the targeting of all non-Muslims.

  18. Bomb kills father and daughter at school in Thailand’s troubled south

    BANGKOK (Reuters) – A motorcycle bomb killed a father and daughter in front of a Thai elementary school as parents were dropping off their children on Tuesday, officials said, the latest in a series of attacks in the troubled south.

    The bomb went off in Narathiwat province, one of three Muslim-majority provinces in predominantly Buddhist Thailand where a separatist insurgency has been raging since 2004.

    The blast killed a man and his five year-old daughter, the army’s Internal Security Operations Command said. The motorcycle was parked opposite the school entrance. Eight people were wounded.

    “We suspect this to be the work of people who want to destabilize the situation and cause chaos,” the deputy spokesman of the ISOC, Yuthanam Petchmuang, told Reuters.

    The attack occurred less than a month after a wave of bombings in tourist towns, including Hua Hin, Phuket and Surat Thani, killed four people and injured dozens.

    Police say the tourist-town bombings were linked to the southern insurgency and arrested a suspect over the weekend in connection with the attacks.

    Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan told reporters on Tuesday that the military government, which took power in May 2014, were making security preparations ahead of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha on September 12.

    China imports many donkey hides, using the gelatin in medicinal tonics, aphrodisiacs and anti-ageing creams.

    In August, neighbouring Burkina Faso banned the export of donkey skins on similar grounds.

    “About 80,000 donkeys have been exported so far this year compared to 27,000 last year,” Atte Issa, at Niger’s livestock ministry, said.

    In comments to the Makkah newspaper, the top Saudi cleric was quoted as saying that Khamenei’s remarks are “not surprising” because Iranians are descendants of “Majuws”— a term that refers to Zoroastrians and those who worship fire. Zoroastrianism is a monotheistic religion predating Christianity and Islam and was the dominant religion in Persia before the Arab conquest.

    “We must understand they are not Muslims, for they are the descendants of Majuws, and their enmity toward Muslims, especially the Sunnis, is very old,” the Saudi cleric said….”

    “An Islamist preacher suspected of leading self-styled “Sharia police” patrols in a German city is going on trial in Duesseldorf.

    Sven Lau – a 35-year-old Muslim convert – is accused of supporting the Jamwa group of Islamist foreign fighters in Syria.

    Prosecutors are also considering bringing terrorism charges against Mr Lau himself, say reports.
    The defendant strongly denies all the charges, his lawyer says.

    More than 40 witnesses have been called to give evidence at the trial, which is expected to run until about January.

    Mr Lau’s alleged crimes date back to 2013, when he is accused of transporting two Islamists from Germany to join Jamwa – Jaysh al-Muhajirin wal-Ansar (Army of the Emigrants and Helpers).
    He is also accused of providing the group with money and night-vision goggles.

    In 2014, Mr Lau is said to have led a group of men wearing high-visibility vests emblazoned with “Sharia police” on patrols in Wuppertal, western Germany in a bid to enforce their ultra-conservative interpretation of Islam.

    The group ordered people outside nightclubs to stop drinking and listening to music, and also announced a prohibition on gambling.

    The initiative resulted in nine arrests, but a court controversially decided no laws had been broken.

  27. 1,000 in Myanmar protest Annan’s role on Rohingya commission

    SITTWE, Myanmar (AP) — About 1,000 Buddhists in a Myanmar state wracked by religious and ethnic strife protested Tuesday’s arrival of former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, saying the Ghanaian is meddling in the country’s affairs by leading a government-appointed commission to find solutions to the conflict.

    The Southeast Asian country set up the commission last month to help find solutions to “protracted issues” in western Rakhine state, where human rights groups have documented widespread abuses by majority Rakhine Buddhists against minority Rohingya Muslims.

    The state’s dominant Arakan National Party and the Rakhine Women Network led the protest about 300 meters (yards) from the airport in Sittwe, the Rakhine capital, where Annan and other members of the Rakhine Advisory Commission arrived Tuesday morning. As Annan’s car passed, the crowd shouted, “Dismiss the Kofi Annan-led Rakhine Advisory Commission now.”

    “We came here because we don’t want that foreigner coming to our state,” said May Phyu, a local Rakhine Buddhist resident. “I don’t know exactly what this group is and what they are doing, but I came here to protest as I don’t like them to come here.

    “I cannot accept them talking about the Rakhine and kalar case in our state,” said protester Soe Thein. “Kalar” is a derogatory word used in Myanmar to refer to Muslims.

    Many Buddhists in Rakhine and across Myanmar consider Rohingya to be Bangladeshis living in the country illegally, though the ethnic group has been in Myanmar for generations. Hundreds of Rohingya were killed and tens of thousands forced to flee their homes in 2012 unrest in Rakhine state, and many continue to be confined to squalid camps there.

    Before Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s government created the commission, her international reputation as a Nobel Peace Prize-winning democracy icon had been diminished by what some have viewed as her inaction on the Rohingya issue. Her government still does not even use the word “Rohingya.”

    “You will see for yourself all the problems on the ground now,” Suu Kyi, officially Myanmar state counselor and foreign minister, told Annan and other commission members at a news conference Monday. “You will be able to assess for yourself the roots of the problems itself, not in one day, not in one week. But I am confident that you will get there, that you will find the answers because you are truly intent on looking for them.”

    The commission is to address human rights, ensuring humanitarian assistance, rights and reconciliation, establishing basic infrastructure and promoting long-term development plans.

    Annan said Monday he is “confident that we can assist the people of Rakhine to chart the common path to the peaceful and prosperous future.”

    During their six-day Rakhine trip, the commission they will visit the Rohingya camps and meet members of political and religious groups. But the Arakan National Party said it will not meet or work with the commission.

    “Rakhine state is in Myanmar and our country has its own sovereignty and there is no way we can accept a commission that is formed by foreigners,” ANP official Aung Than Wai said Tuesday.

    The study claimed the previously welcoming country has now reached its tolerance limit following months of migrant violence, sexual assaults and the death of asylum worker Alexandra Mezher in January this year.

    In 2015 alone Sweden, with a population of 9.5million, received over 160,000 asylum applications and the country is expected to take as many as 190,000 refugees, or two per cent of the population, before the end of 2016.

    As the crisis reached a peak last summer with millions migrants opting to take the deadly trip over the Mediterranean to reach the continent, Swedes initially welcomed the asylum-seekers on humanitarian grounds.

    However as Swedish police warn they do not have the resources to tackle the increasing violence with more than 50 areas with a high proportion of migrants being listed as “no-go zones”, the people’s patience with the visitors is wearing thin.

    The new poll revealed that fewer Swedes are now willing to donate clothes and money to asylum-seekers, despite the people donating almost 19.4 billion (£17bn) in 2015.

    Inizio pollster Karin Nelsson told Aftonbladet: “We have taken in many refugees who have not yet been integrated, and the debate is ongoing.

    “Many people in the survey wondered how taking even more in would work. Some also think that other countries should take more responsibility.”

    The study found that the population had grown increasingly sceptical of the migrant crisis with 60 per cent, compared to 34 per cent last year, of the surveyed saying Sweden should take fewer asylum-seekers.

    It also found almost three quarters (65 per cent) of the people have lost faith in the government’s ability to handle the situation.

    Ms Nelsson added: “Despite the vigorous efforts made by the government… the confidence is still low. Everyday people haven’t seen a difference.””

  36. French Judge Upholds Burkini Ban Despite Top Court Ruling

    A court in the French Mediterranean island of Corsica has upheld a burkini ban issued by a local mayor despite a higher court ruling saying such bans on the Muslim full-body swimwear may violate basic freedoms.

    A judge in the Bastia court said Tuesday the ban issued by the mayor in the Corsican resort village of Sisco was legal because public order had been disrupted in the region.

    Last month, clashes broke out in Sisco after unconfirmed witness accounts said a Muslim woman was wearing a full-body outfit on a local beach. Several people were wounded and tensions spread to Bastia.

    The Council of State has ruled bans are illegal unless there are “proven risks of disruptions to public order.”

    Tuesday’s ruling can be appealed to the top court.

    As the high-point of the 2016 hajj draws nearer, the government of Saudi Arabia has shortened the timing for the symbolic stoning ritual that led to the deaths of over 2,300 pilgrims during last year’s hajj.

    The authorities of the holy land will now tightly control the ritual to avert disaster.

    The representative of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj, Sheikh Mohammed, stated this at a workshop organised by the Est of Mutawifs for Pilgrims of Non-Arab African countries, which is meant to sensitise the officials and representatives of the State Pilgrims Welfare Boards on the measures adopted for the stoning of the devil ritual held in Muna, Makkah, yesterday.

    He said the new measures will strictly adhere to the time schedule and use of guides for pilgrims, adding that two guides, each from Muassassa and the State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, would lead groups of 250 pilgrims to and from Jamarat for the stoning ritual.

    As usual, the symbolic stoning of the devil will be performed immediately after pilgrims leave Arafat. The new procedure will enable the pilgrims to throw stones easily and prevent any stampede that may result from overcrowding in Jamrah.

    Mohammed warned that any pilgrim or state contingent that violates the new measures put in place to ensure the safety of the pilgrims would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly, adding that no pilgrim would be allowed to go out for the stoning ritual without his group or stay beyond the time allocated for the group.

    He said: “Sheikh Mohammed wants the State Pilgrims Welfare Board officials and leaders of the pilgrim groups to adhere to the time schedule in line with airport style of scheduling, in the sense that flights only arrive and depart based on the time scheduled to them.”

    He further warned that the state pilgrims’ welfare board officials would be held responsible for any lapses that occur during the exercise.

    Last year’s stampede, which killed over 2,300 pilgrims, was the worst disaster in hajj history and it occurred outside the five-storey Jamarat Bridge, a structure resembling a huge parking garage which hosts the stoning ritual and cost more than $1billion to build.

    Nigerian Army Goes Spiritual, Sends 450 Officers To Hajj

    Determined to win the war against the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East and other security challenges facing the country, the leadership of the Nigerian Army has sent 450 officers on a spiritual mission to the 2016 hajj to pray for the success of the Army and the country.

    Speaking to a group of Nigerian journalists in Makkah, yesterday, the leader of the delegation, Col. Shehu Garba Mustapha, urged all Nigerian pilgrims presently in the holy land of Saudi Arabia for the 2016 hajj, to pray for Nigeria and for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

    “We don’t have any other country to call our own, other than Nigeria. The present government needs our prayers to succeed and we must pray for Mr President and his team. I use this opportunity to call on all Nigerian pilgrims to pray for our country, Mr President and the leaders and those who lost their lives, may Allah forgive them.

    “Both the security and other challenges that we are facing in our nation, we should make requests to Allah to remove and uproot them from Nigeria. Anytime we go to pray, we should pray for Nigeria and Mr President,” he said.

    Col Mustapha lauded the new measures adopted by the Saudi government for the 2016 hajj stoning ritual and gave the assurance that the Nigerian soldiers on pilgrimage will abide by the new rules.

    He said a member of the Army Force Hajj Team will collaborate with the NAHCON to impart the dos and don’ts of the new rules to all Nigerian pilgrims and will assist the pilgrims during the exercise.

    “Anything that we are asked to do, as a law-abiding and disciplined agency, we will comply. We will also collaborate with NAHCON officials to impart the same to other Nigerian pilgrims. We are not here for only Nigerian Army Force’s pilgrims. We also need to assist our Nigerian brothers and sisters who are here on hajj in performing their hajj exercise.

    “The new arrangement is a welcome development because it doesn’t allow violence. It is in accordance with Islamic injunction that whenever there are difficulties, you are allowed to do things that you were not allowed to do under normal circumstances,” he said.

    As The Atlantic reported, on June 24, Syracuse professor Gail Hamner disinvited Israeli filmmaker Shimon Dotan from screening his film at the university’s film festival, scheduled for March 2017.

    Hamner’s decision had nothing to do with the quality of Dotan’s work. She admitted as much, writing, “Obviously, my decision here has nothing to do with you or your work.”

    Dotan was disinvited because he is Israeli and because the title of his film, The Settlers, does not make it immediately apparent whether he reviles the half million Israeli Jews who live in Judea and Samaria sufficiently.

    Hamner explained, “My SU colleagues, on hearing about my attempt to secure your presentation [at our upcoming film festival], have warned me that the BDS faction on campus will make matters very unpleasant for you and for me if you come.”

    Hillary is taking it very seriously. She just doesn’t think it’s an issue.

    Also, it’s been “alleged, but never proven”, which is the standard response of defense attorneys for mob bosses and the Clintons to anything. It means, “You can’t prove we did it.”

    This is what sorts of creatures the Clintons are. Also, note that Hillary says she doesn’t think, rather than offering a flat out denial. She’s a lawyer and this is yet more hedging.

    An actual American leader should hold the honor of his nation at least as highly as his own honor. It goes without saying that Obama does not. That he cares nothing for America’s honor, but a great deal for his own. That he will pursue diplomatic relations with countries that abuse America, but walk away in a huff when an ally that insults him personally.

    In Muslim countries, women can’t leave the house. If we take in enough Muslims, women won’t be able to leave the house either.

    It’s that simple. As European countries are finding out.

    There have been yet another series of Muslim attacks on women. This latest one comes out of Austria. Despite being a small country, there are 11,000 “refugees” listed as crime suspects.

    Eight women have so far made official complaints to the police, saying that they were groped and sexually harassed on Saturday. Police have since arrested five young men aged between 15 and 22, and are still looking for another suspect.

    Police are calling on witnesses and any further victims to contact them.

    Die Presse newspaper reports that the youngest suspect, aged 15, was identified by one of the victims and accused of sexually harassing her. The incidents reportedly happened in a packed party tent during the Wels Volksfest. The eight women told the police the men grabbed them and groped them between the legs.

    Typically, the Austrian site makes no mention of who the perps are. They’re only “young men”

    In particular, national security and regional experts, non-governmental organizations and office-holders alike, have endlessly debated whether the People’s Republic of China could be brought into a U.S.-dominated international order and world economy in a manner consistent with American interests and, better yet, as a partner in opposition to mutual adversaries (e.g., the Soviet Union, North Korea, and the global jihad movement).

    Regrettably, this controversy over China’s intentions has now been largely settled by actions of the Chinese government – and a rapid militarization. Under successive regimes – and most especially that of the incumbent Chinese ruler, Xi Jinping – the Chinese have relentlessly and unmistakably striven to put themselves in a position to challenge, and ultimately to displace, the post-World War II Pax Americana with a new order.     Syrian native Abu Wa’el Dhiab has repeatedly said he is unhappy in Uruguay and is protesting to demand he be allowed to leave the country, which received him and five other former Guantanamo prisoners in 2014.

    Dhiab’s friend Jorge Voituret said the ex-detainee was hospitalized Monday night in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo. Dhiab’s government liaison, Christian Mirza, said he was released Tuesday but declined to comment on his condition.

    Dhiab suffers health problems related to multiple hunger strikes and forced feedings while in U.S. custody. He went missing from Uruguay for weeks this year, alarming officials in neighboring countries and setting off recriminations from U.S. lawmakers before resurfacing in Venezuela on July 27.

    The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry says Dhiab tried to get help to reunite with family in Turkey or another country before he was deported from Venezuela last week. Since his return to Uruguay, Dhiab has grown frustrated with a government-appointed NGO that he says owes him three months of aid, according to Voituret.

    Dhiab and the other former prisoners came to Uruguay at the invitation of then-President Jose Mujica. They were detained in 2002 for suspected ties to al-Qaida and held without charge like hundreds of others at Guantanamo before U.S. officials cleared them for release.

    Uruguay has provided social services and financial support, but the men have struggled to adjust and say they don’t get enough help. Dhiab has been the most vocal of the group.

    Shortly after arriving in 2014, he called a news conference to complain that the government needed a better resettlement plan. Last year he visited neighboring Argentina and told reporters he planned to seek asylum. Dhiab also has accused Uruguay of breaking a promise to bring his family to the country.”
