BREITBART – Panic Mode: Khizr Khan Deletes Law Firm Website that Specialized in Muslim Immigration
This development is significant, as his website proved—as Breitbart News and others have reported—that he financially benefits from unfettered pay-to-play Muslim migration into America.
A snapshot of his now deleted website, as captured by the Wayback Machine which takes snapshots archiving various websites on the Internet, shows that as a lawyer he engages in procurement of EB5 immigration visas and other “Related Immigration Services.”
The website is completely removed from the Internet, and instead directs visitors to the URL at which it once was to a page parking the URL run by GoDaddy.
The EB5 program, which helps wealthy foreigners usually from the Middle East essentially buy their way into America, is fraught with corruption. U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has detailed such corruption over the past several months, and in February issued a blistering statement about it.
“Maybe it is only here on Capitol Hill—on this island surrounded by reality—that we can choose to plug our ears and refuse to listen to commonly accepted facts,” Grassley said in a statement earlier this year. “The Government Accountability Office, the media, industry experts, members of congress, and federal agency officials, have concurred that the program is a serious problem with serious vulnerabilities. Allow me to mention a few of the flaws.”
Grassley’s statement even noted that the program Khan celebrated on his website has posed national security risks.
“There are also classified reports that detail the national security, fraud and abuse. Our committee has received numerous briefings and classified documents to show this side of the story,” Grassley said in the early February 2016 statement. “The enforcement arm of the Department of Homeland Security wrote an internal memo that raises significant concerns about the program. One section of the memo outlines concerns that it could be used by Iranian operatives to infiltrate the United States. The memo identifies seven main areas of program vulnerability, including the export of sensitive technology, economic espionage, use by foreign government agents and terrorists, investment fraud, illicit finance and money laundering.”
Khan spoke alongside his wife Ghazala Khan at the Democratic National Convention last week in Philadelphia, and they were honoring their son U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan—a hero who lost his life to a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004. On behalf of Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president, Khizr Khan ripped into Donald Trump’s policies on immigration—specifically bashing his plan to bar Muslim migration from regions afflicted with rampant terrorism into America temporarily until the United States can figure out what’s going on.
Khan even brought out a pocket Constitution, claiming inaccurately that Trump’s plans were unconstitutional. That’s not true, as Congress has already granted such power to the president under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952—allowing the president to bar migration of any alien or class of aliens the president sees as a threat to the United States for any reason at any time. Such a class of aliens could be Muslims, or it could be people from a specific region of the world, or any other class—such as someone’s race, weight, height, age, national origin, religion, or anything else.
The media, along with Hillary Clinton and her supporters throughout the Democratic Party establishment, has pushed the line of attack against Trump for days. Now on Tuesday, President Barack Obama has said that Trump is “unfit” to serve as President over the matter. Even a group of anti-Trump congressional Republicans has gone after Trump on the matter.
But as Breitbart News and other new media have exposed Khan’s various deep political and legal connections to the Clintons—and to Muslim migration—the attack line has crumbled. Now, with Khan deleting his website in an apparent effort to hide his biographical information, the attack is falling apart even more.
What’s perhaps interesting is that also on this website that he has now deleted, Khan revealed that he spent nearly a decade working for the mega-D.C. law firm Hogan & Hartson—now Hogan Lovells LLP—which connects him directly with the government of Saudi Arabia and the Clintons themselves. Saudi Arabia, which has retained the firm that Khan worked at for years, has donated between $10 million and $25 million to the Clinton Foundation. Hillary Clinton, despite the repeated urging of Trump, has refused to return the Clinton Cash money to the Saudis. What’s more, Hogan Lovells also did Hillary Clinton’s taxes—and helped acquire the patents for parts of the technology she used in crafting her illicit home-brew email server that the FBI director called “extremely careless” in handling classified information.
What’s more, the entire mainstream has proven negligence with regard to this matter as none of them even thought to look into this Khan guy’s law practice before bandying him about as some kind of magic elixir that cures the country of Trump.

Most reports say the President is required to stop the entry of all aliens that are considered a danger to the national security.. One would think that Kahn as a lawyer specializing in immigration issues would know this wouldn’t one?
Chinese Navy holds live-fire drills in East China Sea
The Chinese Navy held live-fire drills in the East China Sea on Monday, the Defense Ministry said in a short statement posted to its website.
The drills, the statement said, involved firing dozens of missiles and torpedoes and was aimed at bolstering “the assault intensity, precision, stability and speed of troops amid heavy electromagnetic influences,” an apparent reference to electronic warfare.
“An information technology-based war at sea is sudden, cruel and short, which requires fast transition to combat status, quick preparation and high assault efficiency,” the statement said.
The drill involved naval aviation forces, including submarines, ships and coast guard servicemen.
The statement did not specify where in the waters the military exercises were held.

Japan defence review expresses ‘deep concern’ at Chinese coercion
TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s annual defence review on Tuesday expressed “deep concern” over what it sees as China’s coercion, as a more assertive Beijing flouts international rules when dealing with other nations.
Japan’s Defence White Paper comes amid heightened tension in Asia less than a month after an arbitration court in the Hague invalidated China’s sweeping claims in the disputed South China Sea, in a case brought by the Philippines.
China has refused to recognise the ruling. Japan called on China to adhere to the verdict, which it said was binding. Beijing retorted by warning Tokyo not to interfere.
In the defence review approved by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government, Japan warned that “unintended consequences” could result from Beijing’s assertive disregard of international rules.
“China is poised to fulfil its unilateral demands without compromise,” the government said in the review.
China’s official Xinhua news agency condemned the review for hyping up the “China threat” theory, which aimed to tarnish the country’s image.
In a statement, China’s defence ministry said Japan sought excuses to step up military spending, accusing it of “evil intentions” towards China’s legitimate defence needs.

China court warns against illegal fishing in riposte to South China Sea ruling
BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s Supreme Court said on Tuesday people caught illegally fishing in Chinese waters could be jailed for up to a year, issuing a judicial interpretation defining those waters as including China’s exclusive economic zones.
An arbitration court in the Hague ruled last month that China had no historic title over the waters of the South China Sea and that it had breached the Philippines’ sovereign rights with various actions in the sea, infuriating Beijing, which dismissed the case.
None of China’s reefs and holdings in the Spratly Islands entitled it to a 200-mile exclusive economic zone, the court decided.
China’s Supreme Court made no direct mention of the South China Sea or the Hague ruling, but said its judicial interpretation was made in accordance with both Chinese law and the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), under which the Philippines had brought its case.
“Judicial power is an important component of national sovereignty,” the Supreme Court said.

These were the terrifying scenes as hundreds of people ran for their lives at a beer festival after someone shouted ‘ISIS’ for a joke.
More than 40 people were injured in the stampede at the Beer Fest in Kosovo’s capital of Pristina after apparently a gun was fired and many wrongly thought it was a terror attack.

Pentagon’s top general seeks to cool anti-American sentiment in Turkey
ANKARA, Turkey — The Chairman of the Joint Chief’s of Staff visit with top Turkish officials here Monday was, for the most part, conciliatory, despite growing anti-American sentiment following last month’s coup attempt and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent public scolding of U.S. Army Gen. Joseph Votel.
The highest-ranking U.S. official to visit Turkey following the failed coup, Marine Gen. Joseph F. Dunford arrived at the joint U.S.-Turkish air base in Incirlik Sunday before proceeding to the capital, where he met with his Turkish counterpart Gen. Hulusi Akar, chief of the Turkish General Staff; Prime Minister Binali Yildirim; and Ismail Kahram, the speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Rescuers say toxic gas dropped on Syrian town where Russian helicopter shot down
BEIRUT (Reuters) – A Syrian rescue service operating in rebel-held territory said on Tuesday a helicopter dropped containers of toxic gas overnight on a town close to where a Russian military helicopter was shot down hours earlier.
The opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) accused President Bashar al Assad of being behind the attack. Assad has denied previous accusations of using chemical weapons.
A spokesman for the Syria Civil Defence said 33 people, mostly women and children, were affected by the gas, which they suspect was chlorine, in Saraqeb, in rebel-held Idlib province.
The group, which describes itself as a neutral band of search and rescue volunteers, posted a video on YouTube apparently showing a number of men struggling to breathe and being given oxygen masks by people in civil defense uniforms.
“Medium-sized barrels fell containing toxic gasses. The Syrian Civil Defence was not able to determine the type of the gas,” said the spokesman.
The Syrian government and its Russian allies were not immediately available for comment.

Protesters disrupt Hong Kong election meeting over rule change
HONG KONG (Reuters) – Dozens of masked demonstrators tried to force their way into an electoral meeting in Hong Kong on Tuesday to protest against a new bar on anyone running for the legislature who refuses to declare the territory an “inalienable” part of China.
They were among hundreds of protesters gathered outside the meeting, a briefing for prospective parliamentarians, shouting for Hong Kong’s independence.
Inside the venue, some candidates who had been approved to run for election protested the decision to disqualify others.
Members of the League of Social Democrats and People Power tried several times to charge the stage and take the microphone before being pushed back by security, forcing the meeting to be suspended at least three times.
Politicians from other pro-democracy parties chanted: “No more political elimination!” and “Defend a fair election!”
The Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) said last month that potential candidates for the September Legislative Council election must sign an additional “confirmation form” declaring Hong Kong an inalienable part of China and acknowledging that advocating independence could disqualify them from the election.

Libyan forces wary of Islamic State redoubt despite U.S. support
SIRTE, Libya (Reuters) – A day after the United States began a formal campaign of air strikes against Islamic State’s stronghold in Libya, anti-IS fighters welcomed Washington’s involvement but remained wary of advancing for fear of mines and snipers.
The initial U.S. strikes on Monday targeted a tank and two vehicles in Sirte, where the ultra-hardline militants are encircled in the heart of what has become an important base for the group beyond its self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
Fighters from a range of anti-IS brigades are dug in behind sand banks and concrete walls in the coastal city after suffering high casualties in months of street-by-street fighting.
“If the United States is serious about these air strikes we are very pleased, and it will help us on the ground,” said Husam Bakoush, a fighter with the Marsa brigade.
The battle highlights the challenges of driving the Islamic State from Libya, where it has struggled to win local support but exploited the chaos that followed the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi.
The country is still deeply divided and a U.N. backed government had hesitated to call for U.S. support until now for fear of a backlash.
For the fighters on the ground, this was a source of frustration. “Most of my friends are happy, but they asked why it did not happen sooner,” Bakoush said.
Abdalla Ali Ibrahim Ismail, another fighter with Marsa brigade, said the strikes could be a game-changer.
“I think the U.S. strikes will help the ground troops a lot … I hope that when we start to push again against Islamic State positions the U.S. planes will give us cover.
“Morale is much higher, our men were celebrating last night.”

Europe suffers the predictable effects of its insane immigration policy
Angela Merkel owes her countrymen an apology — and her resignation. In the wake of four terrorist attacks in the space of a week, all of which were perpetrated by Muslims and three of which were committed by refugees, she should have the courage to admit that she was wrong and that her error has gotten people killed. On July 22, a man possessing Iranian and German citizenships went on a shooting spree in Munich, killing nine and wounding 35. When a memorial was held a few days later to honor the victims, Islamists crashed the scene to shout “Allahu Akbar.” On July 24, a Syrian asylum seeker hacked a pregnant woman to death with a machete and wounded two others in Reutlingen. That same day, a Syrian man killed himself in a suicide bombing in Ansbach, wounding 15 people. In a video recorded before the bombing he pledged his allegiance to ISIS and called it “an act of revenge against Germans, because they obstruct Islam.”

Black teens in PA town arrested for shooting at police admit their actions were deliberate
Two teenagers charged with attempted homicide on four officers allegedly told investigators they were targeting police with their gunfire, according to Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman.
Marquell Robert Rentas, 17, and Trenton Nace, 18, were arrested Friday morning after a lengthy search that resulted in a shelter-in-place order for a Columbia neighborhood.
The incident began at 3:25 a.m. when multiple police officers were called to 103 Bethel St. in Columbia for reports of shots fired.

These young men have had the assurance of both the President of the United States and the woman running to be the next President that their cause is good and their actions are justified. I don’t really see the blame for this being entirely on them. Hillary actually has Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin’s mothers on the stage with her. Obama slams GOP leaders over Trump endorsement
Donald Trump is reacting to comments by Barack Obama that he is unfit to lead the country, accusing the president of “failed leadership.”
Trump issued a statement Tuesday with a barrage of attacks against Obama and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, saying they have “single-handedly “destabilized the Middle East, handed Iraq, Libya and Syria to ISIS.”
He accused the pair of putting Iran “on the path to nuclear weapons” and said they have allowed “dozens of veterans to die” and “repeatedly admitted migrants later implicated in terrorism.”
Trump also accused Obama and Clinton of sending America’s “best jobs overseas to appease their global interests.”

A video of a wild brawl inside a German courthouse is spreading like wildfire on Facebook, mostly among communities of refugees inside Europe. The primary worry is that the video—which shows what appears to be a violent fight among migrants—will reflect badly on Europe’s newest arrivals.

Turkey Sets Ultimatum for EU Migrant Deal
“Erdo?an is openly pursuing the Islamization of Europe”
urkey has threatened to back out of an agreement to stem the flow of migrants to the European Union if Turkish nationals are not granted visa-free travel to the bloc by October.
Although Turkish officials have repeatedly threatened to renege on the March 18 EU-Turkey deal, this is the first time they have set a deadline.
If the EU approves the visa waiver, tens of millions of Turks will gain immediate and unimpeded access to 26 European countries. If the EU rejects the visa waiver, and Turkey retaliates by reopening the migration floodgates, potentially millions of migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East could begin flowing into Greece this fall. Europe is trapped in a no-win situation.
The migration deal, which entered into force on June 1, was hastily negotiated by European leaders desperate to gain control over a crisis in which more than one million migrants poured into Europe in 2015.
Under the agreement, the EU pledged to pay Turkey €3 billion ($3.4 billion), grant visa-free travel to Europe for Turkey’s 78 million citizens, and restart accession talks for Turkey to join the bloc. In exchange, Turkey agreed to take back all migrants and refugees who reach Greece via Turkey.
Turkish officials have repeatedly accused the EU of failing to keep its end of the bargain.
In a July 25 interview with the German television broadcaster ARD, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said that Turkey had so far received only €2 million of the promised €3 billion: “European leaders are dishonest,” he said. “We have stood by our promise. But have the Europeans kept theirs?”

Indian security forces are again waging pitched battles with violent Islamists on the streets of the Muslim-majority province of Kashmir. Mobs began congregating in towns on July 9, after the customary Friday prayers, to protest the killing the previous day by Indian security forces of a prominent Islamic terrorist, Burhan Wani. The protestors waved black ISIS flags and pelted stones at riot police. The riots have so far claimed 49 lives, including 2 policemen.
The mainstream media in the West have been quick to point the finger of blame on India for using — as BBC puts it — “excessive force.” “Allegations that the forces are trigger happy in the region have been a common criticism for years,” the BBC said. The mainstream media, however, did not take into account that more than 1,500 members of the Indian police and army were injured by the mobs.
Germany’s state-run Deutsche Welle featured a Pakistan-based social media campaign that criticised the use of BB guns by Indian riot police against stone-throwing mobs of Islamists.

Boston Globe -The media are misleading the public on Syria
Coverage of the Syrian war will be remembered as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the American press. Reporting about carnage in the ancient city of Aleppo is the latest reason why.
For three years, violent militants have run Aleppo. Their rule began with a wave of repression. They posted notices warning residents: “Don’t send your children to school. If you do, we will get the backpack and you will get the coffin.” Then they destroyed factories, hoping that unemployed workers would have no recourse other than to become fighters. They trucked looted machinery to Turkey and sold it.
This month, people in Aleppo have finally seen glimmers of hope. The Syrian army and its allies have been pushing militants out of the city. Last week they reclaimed the main power plant. Regular electricity may soon be restored. The militants’ hold on the city could be ending.
Militants, true to form, are wreaking havoc as they are pushed out of the city by Russian and Syrian Army forces. “Turkish-Saudi backed ‘moderate rebels’ showered the residential neighborhoods of Aleppo with unguided rockets and gas jars,” one Aleppo resident wrote on social media. The Beirut-based analyst Marwa Osma asked, “The Syrian Arab Army, which is led by President Bashar Assad, is the only force on the ground, along with their allies, who are fighting ISIS — so you want to weaken the only system that is fighting ISIS?”
This does not fit with Washington’s narrative. As a result, much of the American press is reporting the opposite of what is actually happening. Many news reports suggest that Aleppo has been a “liberated zone” for three years but is now being pulled back into misery.
Americans are being told that the virtuous course in Syria is to fight the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian partners. We are supposed to hope that a righteous coalition of Americans, Turks, Saudis, Kurds, and the “moderate opposition” will win.
This is convoluted nonsense, but Americans cannot be blamed for believing it. We have almost no real information about the combatants, their goals, or their tactics. Much blame for this lies with our media.
Under intense financial pressure, most American newspapers, magazines, and broadcast networks have drastically reduced their corps of foreign correspondents. Much important news about the world now comes from reporters based in Washington. In that environment, access and credibility depend on acceptance of official paradigms. Reporters who cover Syria check with the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House, and think tank “experts.” After a spin on that soiled carousel, they feel they have covered all sides of the story. This form of stenography produces the pabulum that passes for news about Syria.
Astonishingly brave correspondents in the war zone, including Americans, seek to counteract Washington-based reporting. At great risk to their own safety, these reporters are pushing to find the truth about the Syrian war. Their reporting often illuminates the darkness of groupthink. Yet for many consumers of news, their voices are lost in the cacophony. Reporting from the ground is often overwhelmed by the Washington consensus.
Washington-based reporters tell us that one potent force in Syria, al-Nusra, is made up of “rebels” or “moderates,” not that it is the local al-Qaeda franchise. Saudi Arabia is portrayed as aiding freedom fighters when in fact it is a prime sponsor of ISIS. Turkey has for years been running a “rat line” for foreign fighters wanting to join terror groups in Syria, but because the United States wants to stay on Turkey’s good side, we hear little about it. Nor are we often reminded that although we want to support the secular and battle-hardened Kurds, Turkey wants to kill them. Everything Russia and Iran do in Syria is described as negative and destabilizing, simply because it is they who are doing it — and because that is the official line in Washington.
Inevitably, this kind of disinformation has bled into the American presidential campaign. At the recent debate in Milwaukee, Hillary Clinton claimed that United Nations peace efforts in Syria were based on “an agreement I negotiated in June of 2012 in Geneva.” The precise opposite is true. In 2012 Secretary of State Clinton joined Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Israel in a successful effort to kill Kofi Annan’s UN peace plan because it would have accommodated Iran and kept Assad in power, at least temporarily. No one on the Milwaukee stage knew enough to challenge her.
Politicians may be forgiven for distorting their past actions. Governments may also be excused for promoting whatever narrative they believe best suits them. Journalism, however, is supposed to remain apart from the power elite and its inbred mendacity. In this crisis it has failed miserably.
Americans are said to be ignorant of the world. We are, but so are people in other countries. If people in Bhutan or Bolivia misunderstand Syria, however, that has no real effect. Our ignorance is more dangerous, because we act on it. The United States has the power to decree the death of nations. It can do so with popular support because many Americans — and many journalists — are content with the official story. In Syria, it is: “Fight Assad, Russia, and Iran! Join with our Turkish, Saudi, and Kurdish friends to support peace!” This is appallingly distant from reality. It is also likely to prolong the war and condemn more Syrians to suffering and death.

Syria: Anti-govt. militants surrender arms to flee battle-torn Aleppo
Footage released on Tuesday shows Aleppo residents and anti-government militants who have laid down their arms escaping the eastern part of the city through the Sheikh Saad gate. Ambulances and aid trucks were present to help as part of a series of humanitarian corridors set up by Russian and Syrian authorities to demilitarise the area and move civilians further from the intensified fighting.

Khizr Khan’s Saudi Ties
Is Saudi Arabia trying to manipulate the U.S. presidential election?

Khizr Khan is more than just the father of slain Muslim U.S. serviceman Humayun Khan and the mainstream media’s flavor of the moment in its ongoing efforts to demonize and destroy Donald Trump. As far as the Obama administration and Hillary campaign are concerned, he is a living validation of the success of their strategy against “extremism”: by refusing to identify the enemy as having anything to do with Islam, they draw moderate Muslims to their side and move them to fight against terrorism. By contrast, Trump, in their view, alienates these moderates and drives them into the arms of the terrorists.
That all sounds great. There’s just one catch: Khizr Khan, and the Clinton campaign, have extensive ties to the Saudis – far more extensive than any possible connection that Donald Trump’s campaign may have had to Russia’s alleged involvement in the leak of emails that revealed that the entire Democratic Party presidential nominating process was rigged from the start. Not that the mainstream media will pause from speculating about Trump and the Russians long enough to tell you any facts about Khizr Khan, Hillary and the Saudis.

New Information On Khizr Khan Sheds Light On His Opposition To Trump
Featured at the Democratic National Convention as an ardent critic of Donald Trump, Khizr Khan — the father of a Muslim-American U.S. soldier killed in Iraq — has been hailed as a hero as he continues to speak out against the Republican presidential nominee.
However, details about Khan’s background are emerging that might at least partially explain the motivation behind his dislike of Trump, the Washington Times reports.
According to his website, Khan — an immigration lawyer — helps clients gain E-2 and EB-5 visas, which provide green cards to foreign investors along with their families. Yet this particular visa program is highly controversial and has been accused of allowing foreigners to buy residency.
Furthermore, Khan’s background in Islamic law has raised several questions pertaining to his ideological motivations. Writing in 1983 for the Houston Journal of International Law, Khan said that all judicial systems must be subordinate to Sharia law, otherwise known as Islamic law.
“All other juridical works which have been written during more than thirteen centuries are very rich and indispensable, but they must always be subordinated to the Shari’ah and open to reconsideration by all Muslims,” wrote Khan in his work, “Juristic Classification Of Islamic Law.”
In other words, all legal systems and juridical works should be open to reconsideration by Muslims and must be subordinate to the law of Islam, including the U.S. Constitution.
To make matters worse, Khan credits Said Ramadan — the head of the Islamic Center in Geneva and a major figure within the Muslim Brotherhood — as a contributor to his writings.
Considering this background, it is interesting that he would question Trump’s support for, or knowledge of, the Constitution.

Trump’s comments in that interview have sparked the same mini-rebellion inside his party, in the media and across the aisle that has happened many times before. The usual suspects inside the GOP, from former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to House Speaker Paul Ryan to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to Ohio Gov. John Kasich, have condemned Trump in one way or another. The media condemnation has been swift and Democrats, as well their friends throughout media, are driving the train as fast as they can.

One of the lamentable impacts of the spate of terror attacks in France has been that local authorities are being forced to cancel certain summer events.
After the Bastille Day truck attack in Nice the interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve told mayors across the country not to think twice about cancelling an event if they thought security could not be guaranteed.
During a visit to Lyon, Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said France had to take the threat seriously.
“We are in a situation of war. So, for the moment, we have to forbid demonstrations if security norms cannot be respected,” he said.

“A leading politician for the Die Linke (Left Party) has called for Germany to freeze Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s bank accounts, as anger builds over Ankara’s response to a failed coup.
Left Party MP Sevim Dagdelen argued that Germany should issue sanctions against Erdogan in light of his “brutal” response to a military coup attempt on July 15th.
“We need to finally have sanctions against Erdogan and his brutal, repressive policies of torture and mass arrests,” Dagdelen told the Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung.
“His bank accounts must be blocked.”
Tensions between Germany and Turkey have been on the rise in recent months, especially since Erdogan’s crackdown in response to the failed coup.
The Turkish leader has carried out mass detentions of thousands of people suspected of supporting the coup, including military members, academics and journalists.
Germany blocked Erdogan from speaking via video to a rally of tens of thousands of his supporters in Cologne at the weekend, concerned that his speech would rile up the crowd.
On Tuesday German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier dismissed a Turkish threat to renege on a controversial deal with the EU to stem the migrant flow if it is not granted visa-free travel by October.
Asked if Turkey could “blackmail” the EU over the refugee pact, Steinmeier told the Rheinische Post newspaper: ”That is absurd.”
“The fact is there are conditions for the visa-free policy and they are known to everyone,” he said.
“Turkey pledged to undertake the necessary steps to hold up its end of the agreement. That is not yet the case and Turkey still has work to do.”
Steinmeier’s Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu had said in an interview with the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on Monday that Ankara could withdraw from the accord if Europe failed to allow visa-free travel for Turks by October.
Vice-chancellor Sigmar Gabriel hit back on Monday during a campaign rally for a state election, saying “Germany or Europe must in no way let themselves be blackmailed” by Turkey over the migrants pact.
Turkey and the EU signed the disputed deal in March, in which Ankara agreed to take back Syrian migrants landing on Greek islands in exchange for political and financial incentives.
Chancellor Angela Merkel spearheaded the agreement with Ankara after Germany let in a record 1.1 million migrants and refugees last year.
In addition to visa-free travel, it includes billions of euros in aid and accelerated talks on Turkey’s stalled bid for EU membership, but ties have been strained by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s massive crackdown after the failed coup last month.
Now the deal is coming under increasing criticism in Germany. Green party parliamentary leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt said this week that it was a bad idea from the start.
Officials must create “legal and safe passage for refugees into Europe,” she argued, adding it was wrong to “hand over the Turkey deal” to Erdogan, in comments made to Funke Media Group newspapers.
“Whoever does not help Aleppo and then shirks the responsibility for the arranged taking in of refugees in Europe will always have new problems,” she said.
Human rights spokeswoman for the conservative Union parties (CDU and CSU) Erika Steinbach told Deutschlandfunk that the EU should free itself and its refugee policy from Turkey, arguing that Turkey’s membership negotiations should be halted and the refugee agreement should be called off.
“Turkey has unfortunately become an autocratic state,” she said.
Steinbach also added that visa-free travel for Turkish people is currently “completely unthinkable”.”

“Danish opposition parties have called for young asylum seekers to be punished by being forcibly detained within their accommodation centres.
The Social Democrats on Tuesday backed a proposal from the populist Danish People’s Party to empower the police to ban young asylum seekers from leaving their accommodation centres as a punishment for misbehaviour.
“These are young people under 18 years old. I therefore see nothing wrong in imposing an exit ban on them,” Trine Bramsen the party’s spokesman, told Denmark’s DR broadcaster.
Her comments came after five boys of between 14 and 17 years old from Tullebølle asylum centre were charged for sexual misdemeanours committed at the nearby Langeland festival on the island of Funen. Three were charged with groping, and two for raping a 16-year-old girl.
Martin Henriksen, the DPP’s immigration spokesman, told the Jyllands-Posten newspaper last week that police needed to have some way of punishing young asylum seekers.
“The police should be allowed to issue exit bans on the centers if they believe that there is a need for it, until they can get to grips with the situation,” he said.
Henriksen proposed the ban for asylum seekers under the age of 18, but Bramsen said she saw no reason why over-18-year-olds could not also be confined.
She said it was “completely unreasonable” to let young refugees who misbehaved to move freely in society.
“These young people will have to learn the Danish rules of the game – also when it comes to the opposite sex,” she said. “What we have seen at Langeland is simply unreasonable and must be stopped.”
Denmark’s immigration minister Inger Støjberg meanwhile on Tuesday refused calls to set up special high-security centres for troublesome immigrants, arguing that it would be better to split up the most difficult cases.
“I do not think it would be the best solution to gather them all at one centre,” Støjberg said. “I think it is much better to split them up, so they cannot run around in gangs.””

Prosecutors in the northern city of Bologna are investigating Bilal, who is studying at John Hopkins University there, as part of a money laundering probe. The inclusion of Erdogan’s son in the list of people under investigation follows a petition to authorities from Turkish businessman Murat Hakan Uzan, a political opponent of Erdogan who is wanted by Turkish authorities and is in exile. The petition asks Italian police to investigate potential sums of money brought to Italy by Bilal, 35, who had officially returned to Italy in autumn 2015 to resume PhD studies he began in 2007 at John Hopkins University in Bologna.
Erdogan said on Tuesday that an Italian investigation involving his son could put Turkey’s relations with Italy “in difficulty”. During an interview on RAI News 24, Erdogan said Italy “should be handling the mafia instead”.”

“Now I ask: Does the West give support to terror or not? Is the West on the side of democracy or on the side of coups and terror? Unfortunately, the West gives support to terror and stands on the side of coups,” Erdo?an said in an address to international investors on Aug. 2 in Ankara.
The resentment stems from long-running rift between Turkey and a number of European countries on the fight against terror which seems to have deepened in the aftermath of the coup attempt after the support the Turkish government expected failed to arrive.
“We have not received the support we were expecting from our friends, neither during nor after the coup attempt,” he said.
Erdo?an lamented that no Western leader had come to Turkey to express condolences and show solidarity with the Turkish people. “It’s sufficient to look at the statements issued during and after the coup to see this.”
The statements issued by the Western countries summarily condemned the coup attempt but mostly addressed concerns about the measures the Turkish government has been taking against the Gülenists, Erdo?an said, calling on all European politicians to come to Turkey to see the parliament, National Police Department and other state facilities that were bombed by the coup plotters…”

One day after Turkey summoned the German chargé d’affaires at Berlin’s Ankara embassy after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an was banned from making a speech by video in Cologne, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier dismissed his Turkish counterpart’s remarks regarding the Turkey-EU migrant and visa liberalization deals.
Asked if Turkey could “blackmail” the EU over the refugee pact, Steinmeier told the Rheinische Post newspaper: “That is absurd.”
“The fact is there are conditions for the visa-free policy and they are known to everyone,” Steinmeier said Aug. 2.
“Turkey pledged to undertake the necessary steps to hold up its end of the agreement. That is not yet the case and Turkey still has work to do.”
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu said in an interview with the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on July 31 that Ankara could withdraw from the accord as it would abandon a deal with the EU reached to stem the flow of migrants into the bloc if the EU did not grant visa-free travel to Turkish citizens by October.
The row was initiated with a German court’s ban on Erdo?an from holding a live speech via videoconference during an anti-coup protest in Cologne on July 31.
German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel hit back Aug. 1 during a campaign rally for a state election, saying “Germany or Europe must in no way let themselves be blackmailed” by Turkey over the migrants pact.
Late on Aug. 1, Çavu?o?lu engaged in a Twitter spat with his Austrian counterpart, Sebastian Kurz, over the migrant deal.
Writing over Çavu?o?lu’s remarks, the Austrian foreign minister tweeted, “I do not accept Çavu?o?lu’s ultimatum and return it. The EU cannot proceed with dependencies and must protect its borders.”
Replying to Kurz’s tweet, Çavu?o?lu later said, “Das ist nicht [This is not] ultimatum Sebastian, it is my opinion. Freedom of expression my friend.”
The March 18 deal aims to discourage irregular migration through the Aegean Sea by taking stricter measures against human traffickers and improving the conditions of nearly 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey.
Meanwhile, the Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland was set to arrive in Turkey on Aug. 3 for meetings with officials and opposition leaders after Turkey suspended the European Convention on Human Rights, which is reinforced by the council’s European Court of Human Rights, following the failed July 15 coup attempt.
Jagland is due to meet Erdo?an, Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m, Çavu?o?lu and Justice Minister Bekir Bozda? as well as party leaders.”

“There was foreign support in this uprising. It’s against its nature if there isn’t. Where does [U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah] Gülen live? In the U.S. Who gives him the opportunities? Father Hamel may be a martyr in the eyes of the church, but his attackers are also martyrs in the eyes of jihadists. There is, of course, an egregious false equivalence between the two cases: One man is a pure victim, while the others were killers who contrived to die at the hands of French law enforcers.
We must strengthen our defenses against terrorism but we must resist the notion that a fundamental clash of civilizations is the issue. The real problem is the pathology of a perverse minority of extremists with distorted notions of holy war and martyrdom. Pope Francis was right to speak of the “absurd violence” of Father Hamel’s death and to describe the “senseless hatred” of the massacre in Nice.
Reciprocal talk of martyrdom is unhelpful. The impulse to canonize Father Hamel, however sincere and well intentioned, feeds the idea of retaliation — our martyr for yours — that gives the jihadists the war of religions they seek. As to sainthood, let history judge rather than us making it a proxy for a political response.

As Syria transition date passes, US makes no policy change
The United States outlined no change in its Syria policy as a target date for a political transition passed Monday, despite warning a few months ago that no progress would lead to a more muscular approach for ending the 5½-year-old civil war.
At a news conference in Washington, Secretary of State John Kerry said the U.S. would press on with a multi-month effort to prod Syrian President Bashar Assad and moderate opposition groups into a lasting truce and talks on a unity government.
Kerry’s tone was dramatically different from early May, when he issued an Aug. 1 ultimatum to Assad and his main backer Russia and warned of “repercussions.” He said at the time, “Either something happens in these next few months, or they are asking for a very different track.”
But on Monday, the top American described a U.S. strategy for Syria that is stuck where it started.
“Almost all of the time from the moment of the announcement of the target date until today has been consumed by trying to get a cessation of hostilities in place that is meaningful,” Kerry said. “And that is precisely what we are engaged in right now.”

Islamic State: If Muslims Ran America, ‘Lucrative African Slave Trade Would Have Continued’
In a bizarre digression from their latest anti-Christian tirade, the Islamic State addressed the question of black slavery, claiming that if Muslims had been in charge of Western states, the slave trade would have continued.
If Muslims rather than Christians had been running things in countries like the U.S., the Islamic State argues in the most recent issue of its propaganda magazine Dabiq, “the lucrative African slave trade would have continued, supporting a strong economy.”
As usual, the Islamic State supports its position with theological arguments, suggesting that Allah is pleased with slavery, as long as the slaves are infidels.
“The Islamic leadership would not have bypassed Allah’s permission to sell captured pagan humans, to teach them, and to convert them, as they worked hard for their masters in building a beautiful country,” the article reads.
Trading in black African slaves, the magazine notes, would not be done for racial reasons but religious ones.

UN ignores calls to save tomb of Biblical Hebrew prophet in Kurdistan
The representative of Jewish affairs in Iraqi Kurdistan has launched an appeal to save the tomb of the Hebrew prophet Nahum, famed for having correctly predicted the fall of the Assyrian Empire and its capital Nineveh, as is recorded in the Bible.
The tomb has gained some attention in the past couple of years, with various Jewish groups visiting it and media warning about its close proximity to Islamic State activity.
The Kurdish Regional Government last year appointed Sherzad Mamsani as the Jewish representative of the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs, with the aim of rehabilitating Jewish culture in the area, preserving the rights of Kurdish Jews there, as well as “for the grievances of Kurdish Jewish refugees with regard to the Arabization and genocide campaigns of the Iraqi central government.”
The tomb lies inside a synagogue in the Christian town of Al Qosh, whose doors are guarded by a Christian family who reportedly promised the town’s long-departed rabbi to safeguard it.
Mamsani warns that it could be just a matter of days before the ancient tomb crumbles to its ruin. He says he has been holding urgent meetings with the ministries of tourism, culture and religious affairs to ask for help in preserving the historical site.
He has also appealed to UNESCO and told The Jerusalem Post he has a meeting scheduled with a representative in Erbil in the coming days.
