US set to directly engage Russia

(There is more in the Daily Reader’s Links Post. They all seem to have the theme, “The fight started when he hit me back”. The US will directly engage Russia “if the war escalates”. Of course defining what escalation is will be at the sole discretion of the United States and will be as meaningful as the new definitions the US made for “Vaccines”, “Pandemics”, “Terrorism”, “Insurrection”, “Racism” and any other word that is subject to change for what is in the interests of the Democrat party and its ambitions at any given moment. These are neither NATO nations, nor are they even EU. But it does seem that the United States, NATO, the UK and the EU are all determined to put us all in the crosshairs of a world war with a nuclear armed nation that has vastly superior nuclear weapons and delivery systems than does the West. Russia, if open source material is to be believed, has hypersonic first strike nuclear missiles. Russia’s incursion into the Donbas was a bad move. But US refusal to allow Ukraine to negotiate a peace deal with Russia was a worse one. Once again it may be worth reading the Hungarian Credit-Swiss financial analyst, Zoltan Pozsar, who seems to have a pretty good grasp of the geopolitics of why this is happening, on the likely results of this scenario, and why it is playing out as it is.

Frankly I think between the WEF front men like Biden and Trudeau and Putin’s past as a KGB info-warrior, or at least the leader of a nation heavily involved in it, I think they have finally found a way to start a world war with no good guys.)

  1. These people are all complete and utterly INSANE, criminally at that.
But since when have the leaders of Nations or Empires shown anything else?
After all, it’s not them that have to foot the bill when it comes to the dying part, for that is after all the peasant class’s prerogative in the greater scheme of the “Megalomania Game”.
How is it possible that after Millennia those that follow blindly always outnumber those with common sense and reason and then start screaming when they finally notice that they are already standing with both feet in a Mass-grave due to the courtesy of their “Elites”?

Well, it was nice knowing you.

Statement on Defence Secretary Ben Wallace’s call with the Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.

At the request of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Secretary of State for Defence spoke with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, this afternoon. Minister Shoigu alleged that Ukraine was planning actions facilitated by Western countries, including the UK, to escalate the conflict in Ukraine.

The Defence Secretary refuted these claims and cautioned that such allegations should not be used as a pretext for greater escalation.

The Defence Secretary also reiterated UK and wider international support for Ukraine and desire to de-escalate this conflict. It is for Ukraine and Russia to seek resolution to the war and the UK stands ready to assist.

The Secretary of State observed that both Ministers were professional and respectful on the call.

Ukraine Latest: Shoigu Warns on Calls of Potential ‘Dirty Bomb’

On the eve of the invasion’s eight-month mark, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke with counterparts from the UK, France and Turkey, warning of a drift toward “uncontrolled escalation” in Ukraine and the potential for Kiev to detonate a radioactive “dirty bomb.” Shoigu later spoke with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin for the second time in three days.

Macron Says Peace Must Come on Ukraine’s Own Terms (6:22 p.m.)

French President Emmanuel Macron said the prospect of peace between Russia and Ukraine exists but will happen when the Ukrainians decide it, and on their terms.

“Let’s not let peace be captured by the Russian power. Peace is possible, but only the one decided by the Ukrainians and when they decide it,” he said at the Sant’Egidio gathering, an interfaith event in Rome.

Macron said the war is the result of Russian nationalism fed by resentment and humiliation in the decades following the collapse of the Soviet empire, but stressed that nothing can justify the attack on Ukraine.

Amid fear of what China might do in the coming years, Japan is reaching out to turn a former enemy into an ally while increasing its military spending.

On Saturday, World War II foes Australia and Japan signed a security agreement to share intelligence and assist each other. The deal was inked by Prime Ministers Fumio Kishida and Anthony Albanese in the western Australian city of Perth, according to the Voice of America.

“This landmark declaration sends a strong signal to the region of our strategic alignment,” Albanese said, according to VOA.

Now much of Western Ukraine, which lies far away from the front lines of fighting with Russia in the east, is without power due to fresh weekend airstrikes across the country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a Saturday night address said new “massive” strikes targeted Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytsky, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Rivne, Volyn and Zaporizhia regions.

“We continue eliminating the aftermath of today’s terrorist attacks on our infrastructure,” Zelensky said. “The geography of this new massive strike is very wide.”

Russia’s military has suffered a second fighter jet crash in less than a week within its own borders on Sunday. Two pilots were killed when their Su-30 fighter jet went down in the city of Irkutsk in southern Siberia on Sunday.

Dramatic and shocking video shows the aircraft dive almost vertically before slamming into a two-story residential building. The families that reside there were unharmed, according to a statement by the regional governor.

        1-rushed training of piolets

2-rushed training of the mechanics maintaining the plane

        3-drink or high piolets

        4-sabatoge.

I doubt we will learn what really happened.

  8. reuters – Ukraine needs Marshall Plan approach to rebuild, says German lobby

BERLIN, Oct 24 (Reuters) – A German lobby group representing companies with interests in eastern Europe has called for a plan to rebuild Ukraine that would mirror the Marshall Plan that helped Europe recover from World War Two, the media group RND reported.

The 20-page “Rebuild Ukraine” dossier covering topics from industry to agriculture and energy will be discussed at a Ukraine-Germany business forum in Berlin on Monday, attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal.

In an opinion piece in German business newspaper FAZ on Sunday, Scholz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a similar call for a “new Marshall Plan for the 21st century” for Ukraine.

“The path to reconstruction is also Ukraine’s path into the European Union,” they wrote, saying rebuilding needed to include setting high standards on the rule of law and tackling corruption.

The lobby group’s dossier called for each European country involved in efforts to rebuild Ukraine to nominate a coordinator to an advisory board to liaise with Ukraine’s government.

German companies should be given incentives to invest in Ukraine just as the Marshall Plan, which was a U.S. initiative, encouraged investment in West Germany after World War Two, the lobby group’s chair Michael Harms said.

“Companies need reliable contacts, quick tenders and approval processes, and financial and legal security,” Harms told RND.

The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which is organising the conference, was not immediately available for comment on the dossier.

Rebuilding Ukraine could cost nearly $350 billion, according to a September report by the World Bank, Ukrainian government and European Commission, about 1.6 times the country’s $200 billion gross domestic product in 2021.

ATLANTIC COUNCIL -Advancing a framework for the stabilization and reconstruction of Ukraine

[…]Absent an absolute Kremlin victory, Ukraine will need to stabilize vast swathes of its territory and reconstruct the social and industrial infrastructure therein. Due to their proximity to Ukraine and long-standing economic, political, and social connections, transatlantic allies and partners will most likely be deeply involved in this effort and will be significantly affected by its end result.

The purpose of this issue brief then is to help Ukrainian, North American, and European policymakers consider stabilization and reconstruction needs and have a playbook in place regardless of the circumstances or outcome.

[…]The international community is understandably focused on funneling short-term military support to make sure its beleaguered partner wins a still uncertain war.

The United States and its allies can and should do more on this front.

[…] Not helping to restore Ukraine’s political vibrancy, economic activity, and security institutions would be an unforgivable mistake that could undermine the rules-based international order and open up new avenues for authoritarian leaders to exploit the current context.

[…]Geopolitically, the war has resulted in a reinvigorated NATO

[…]Estimates indicate the reconstruction of Ukraine will require $349 billion to $1 trillion, with those numbers likely to grow.

[…]Ukraine’s already vast budget deficit is expanding, with an expected $38 billion gap in 2023 mainly covered by the International Monetary Fund, the United States, and the European Union.

[…]The crisis in Ukraine has galvanized the West unlike any geopolitical issue since the end of World War II.

[…] a concerted effort to punish Russia through biting sanctions,

[…]The international community must help provide financing to cover operating costs and salaries of key ministries and arrest Ukraine’s growing budget deficit, which at the time of this writing had reached $5 billion monthly.

[…]The war in Ukraine could take one of several pathways, ranging from Ukraine winning decisively and reclaiming all territory

[…]Pushing Russia to the pre-February 24 boundaries will not enable Ukraine to reclaim Crimea or secure Donbas, nor will it permanently end Putin’s militarism in Ukraine. But it would likely enable Ukraine to declare a partial victory and signal the importance of coordinated resistance as an effective armor against a vastly superior adversary.

[…]Integrate Ukraine under the security umbrella of the West, most formally as a NATO member.

[…]Assist Ukraine’s transition to Western defensive and offensive military systems and technologies over the next one to three years, primarily by incentivizing major private defense suppliers to forge partnerships with Ukrainian firms.
