Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

  1. Just watched Brad Johnson’s video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCQjCR6yFR0

… and left the following comment:

Ukraine and Russia had a peace deal worked out just weeks after the beginning of this ‘conflict’ to go back and abide by the Budapest accord – but the Biden administration sent in Boris Johnson to deliver the message to Ukraine that this is a no-go and a peace deal will not be accepted. Soon thereafter, the Biden regime altered their messaging from ‘protecting Ukraine from aggression’ to ‘regime change in Moscow’ as the strategic goal that had to be reached. This has been reinforced in recent public speeches, from Ukraine saying they demand revenge – and that includes nuclear attacks on Russia, to Biden’s speech at the UN.

Perhaps this peace treaty/ceasefire is being timed to be the Biden regime’s October Surprise, which is why it was nixed earlier, but, I suspect that greater geopolitical factors are at play here than a mere territorial war between Russia and Ukraine. Yes, it is existential for the defense of Russia to keep certain conditions, but the US/global elite which is running this proxy is only using this Russian need as a pretext to achieve its completely unrelated global goals.

This can be seen in the overtures being made to Scandinavian countries in an effort to get them to enter into NATO: if the Ukraine conflict dies down, then there will be another ‘domino’ to ignite a conflict in the region – same reason, different country on the sacrificial altar.

It is essential for a European country – any European country – to be at war with Russia in order to maintain sanctions on Russia and deny Europe the fuel they will need this winter. in order to bankrupt Western Europe and cause severe recession in the Western world and destroy the middle class in the First World, which is the goal of this exercise.

Yet another battering ram against the foundations of the 1st world.

    • I agree re the October surprise.

ZEL is fully responsible for the destruction of his country. I wonder if they have something on him to have such control over him.

The USA got rid of its military junk and a lot of money was diverted, everybody in the Club is happy.

The October surprise might just be a peace treaty and Biden is nominated for a Nobel prize.

  2. Note: the left eating its own…

Jihad Rehab is a documentary by Meg Smaker, a former firefighter who moved from California to Yemen and then to Saudi Arabia following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Subsequent to its inclusion at the January 2022 Sundance Film Festival, both the film and filmmaker have become pariahs in elite film circles—mostly because Smaker, a white woman, dared to make a movie about the experience of Islamic men.

“Film critics warned that conservatives might bridle at these human portraits,” notes The New York Times in a recent, much discussed article about Jihad Rehab’s cancellation. “But attacks would come from the left, not the right.”

The film centers on four men who were accused of terrorism, imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, and later sent to a rehabilitation center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The center’s purpose is ostensibly to deradicalize and reintegrate its involuntary participants. The New York Times describes it as spanning “an unlikely distance between prison and boutique hotel.”

This sounds like a fascinating subject for a documentary; according to several favorable reviews, the film forces audiences to reckon with the humanity of its subjects, even if they were accused of terrible crimes.

“The absence of absolutes is what’s most enriching in Meg Smaker’s new documentary,” wrote The Guardian. “What follows is a heady plunge into restorative justice, mind control, and cultural conditioning. This is a movie for intelligent people looking to have their preconceived notions challenged.”

It bears repeating, but the expectation—from Smaker and others—was that if anyone would find the film offensive, it would be a sort of self-described patriotic conservative who is disinclined to empathize with alleged jihadists: even those who were arrested while underage, maintain their innocence, and were subject to torture at Guantanamo Bay.

But conservatives aren’t canceling Jihad Rehab. Liberals are.

“The bottom line is such,” wrote Jude Chehab, a Lebanese-American filmmaker, in a review of Jihad Rehab that criticized Sundance for daring to feature it. “When I, a practising Muslim woman, say that this film is problematic, my voice should be stronger than a white woman saying that it isn’t. Point blank.”

Indeed, this was the visceral component of the torrent of criticism that has greeted Smaker: She is a white woman creating a film about a religion and a culture not her own. (That she has lived in the Middle East for years, enmeshed herself in the culture, learned Arabic, and gained unprecedented access to people we would be better off trying to understand apparently makes little difference.)

“As an alumnus of the festival and recipient of a grant from the Sundance Institute Documentary Program, I am deeply disheartened,” wrote Assia Boundaoui, another critic.

It is fine, of course, for people who dislike a film to criticize it; cancel culture does not strike merely when one artist critiques another work of art. The controversy surrounding Jihad Rehab, as The New York Times tells it, is clearly on another level:

  4. Note: this is ostensibly about the end of needing to mask on airplanes in Canada, but, in the following quote by an Air Canada exec is a phrase that deeply troubles me: ‘re-examining the user-pay model that finances air transportation in Canada’. Does this mean that air travel ought not be purchased by the traveler, but assigned/permitted and paid for by the government?

“Air Canada welcomes the removal of these restrictions, acknowledging that air travel is safe and that the measures were not justified by science. We believe it will greatly facilitate travel, help to continue stabilizing the country’s air transport sector and support Canada’s economy. Customers and crew will still have the option to wear masks and we also encourage customers to monitor their own health to be sure they feel well and fit to travel. While today’s announcement is a positive step, we urge the government not to lose momentum. Lessons learned during the pandemic should now be applied to streamlining the air transport system in Canada and to enact further reforms. This includes improving processes, such as security and customs at airports, developing new trusted traveller programs, deploying new technologies and, more fundamentally, re-examining the user-pay model that finances air transportation in Canada, whose weaknesses and interdependencies were exposed by COVID.” – Craig Landry, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at Air Canada

europravda – ‘It’s a really big hole’: Sabotage fears rise after gas leaks identified on Nord Stream pipelines

“It is difficult to imagine that it could be accidental,” said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

    • DEUTSCHE PRAVDA – Nord Stream pipeline leaks raise suspicions of sabotage

Danish and Swedish officials on Tuesday said two leaks had been identified on the Nord Stream 1 Russia-Europe gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea. The news came only hours after a similar development on its twin pipeline, Nord Stream 2. Both conduits have become flash points in the escalating energy war that has sent gas prices rocketing since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

What do we know so far?

Officials said a pressure drop was detected in the Nord Stream 1 undersea gas channel soon after a similar fall was detected in its sister pipeline, Nord Stream 2. Both of Nord Stream 1’s two lines are affected, while one of Nord Stream 2’s pipelines showed a drop in pressure. Marine authorities identified a gas leak southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm as the likely cause of the issue affecting Nord Stream 2. Danish officials warned of a threat to shipping in the area and asked vessels to steer clear. Swedish authorities on Tuesday said there were two leaks on Nord Stream 1 — one in the Danish maritime economic zone and the other in the Swedish one. The two leaks were reported to be very close to one another. The German economy ministry said it was investigating the incident. “We currently do not know the reason for the drop in pressure,” it said.

      Blasts registered by Swedish seismologists

Seismologists from Sweden’s National Seismology Centre (SNSN) told public broadcaster SVT that powerful blasts had been registered in the areas of the gas leaks on Monday. “There is no doubt that these were explosions,” SNSN seismologist Bjorn Lund told SVT. Denmark’s armed forces meanwhile released footage showing bubbles on the surface of the Baltic Sea above the Nordstream 1 and 2 pipelines and reported that the largest of the leaks had caused surface disturbance of around 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) in diameter.

      What’s the significance?

Both of the pipelines were built to carry natural gas from Russia to Europe, although the Nord Stream 2 pipeline was never activated. German officials have not yet provided any information on the possible cause of the damage. However, Berlin’s Tagesspiegel newspaper cited German security circles saying that sabotage was strongly suspected. “Our imagination no longer allows for a scenario in which this is not a targeted attack,” the newspaper quoted its source as saying. Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said it was “hard to imagine” that the leaks were “accidental.”

Speaking to Danish media while on a visit to Poland, Frederiksen said: “It’s an unusual situation, to have three leaks a distance from each other. That’s why it’s hard to imagine that it’s accidental.” Ukraine blamed the leaks on Moscow.

    • BBC – Ukraine accuses Russia of gas pipeline terror attack

Ukraine has accused Russia of causing leaks in two major gas pipelines to Europe in what it described as a “terrorist attack”.

Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhaylo Podolyak said the damage to Nord Stream 1 and 2 was “an act of aggression” towards the EU.

  6. Danger lurks after Italy’s shocking election WaPo

Italy has voted for a new government, likely to be led by a prime minister whose party arose from the ashes of post-World War II Italian fascism. The rise of Giorgia Meloni, the firebrand ethno-nationalist seemingly victorious in Sunday’s elections, has sent shock waves through Europe and triggered fears that Italy might be the Achilles’ heel in Western resolve to resist Russia’s bloody campaign in Ukraine.

In fact, it would be a stretch to regard Ms. Meloni, who would be Italy’s first female premier, as a fascist. And, having dropped her former admiration for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, she has been unstinting in backing NATO’s support for Ukraine — although the same cannot be said of her probable coalition partners in Italy’s legislature. She has also tempered her erstwhile rhetoric suggesting she would splinter the European Union, possibly because Italy depends on enormous infusions of E.U. pandemic relief funds.

Yet there remains ample cause for concern about Ms. Meloni, who is set to govern one of the world’s largest economies despite her own modest credentials in government. She is the latest in a string of extremists who have performed well in European elections this year , including nationalists in France, Hungary and Sweden. Her apparent victory is more evidence that far-right leaders are ascendant in a continent buffeted by immigration, economic head winds and, on its eastern flank, the most destructive war in three-quarters of a century.

Political upheaval is the default in Italy, which has had 69 governments in the 77 years since World War II ended. Still, Ms. Meloni’s premiership would be a watershed event. Amid a drumbeat of anti-immigrant rhetoric — she warns darkly that ethnic Italians are in danger of “replacement” — she has advanced the farfetched idea of a naval blockade to stop unauthorized foreigners from reaching Italian shores . That’s unlikely to work. It’s also a toxic echo of the fierce antisemitism of Mussolini, the World War II dictator whom Ms. Meloni once openly admired.

Her intolerance is also directed at LGBTQ people, for whom her government might make life more challenging in the only major E.U. country that has not legalized same-sex marriage. Framing her views as pro-family, she has vowed to block same-sex adoptions and surrogacy.

Her party and its right-wing coalition partners include figures who might threaten free and fair elections if given their druthers; many would emulate Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has gutted key aspects of that country’s democracy. However, Ms. Meloni’s bloc will lack the votes in Italy’s Parliament to tamper with constitutional protections for Italian democratic institutions.

The lurking danger of a Meloni government is to Europe’s ability to withstand Mr. Putin’s attempts to break Western anti-Kremlin sanctions, using Europe’s dependence on Russian energy exports as leverage. Italy’s economy is chronically anemic, and many Italians will suffer as Moscow’s pressure mounts.

That will test Ms. Meloni’s determination to hold the line, especially given that one of her coalition partners, Matteo Salvini of the League party, opposes sanctions, and the other, former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, is an apologist for the Russian authoritarian.

Washington, NATO and the E.U. must use their considerable leverage to ensure Ms. Meloni’s spine remains stiff.

New $1.1 bln U.S. arms package for Ukraine in process -U.S. officials
    Reuters

WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) – The United States is preparing a new $1.1 billion arms package for Ukraine’s battle with Russia that will be announced soon, U.S. officials said on Tuesday as Washington awaits the outcome of what it calls “sham” referendums in Ukraine.

The package will be the latest installment in weaponry for Ukraine as it fights Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. The officials said on condition of anonymity that the package will be announced in coming days.

It is expected to use funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) appropriated by Congress to allow the Biden administration to procure weapons from industry rather than from existing U.S. weapons stocks.

The package will include HIMARS launcher systems, accompanying munitions, various types of counter drone systems and radar systems, along with spares, training and technical support, a source briefed on the plan said.
