  1. Fear turns to shock among Albuquerque Muslims as police say the shooter is a Muslim

The killings of four Muslim men in Albuquerque had already shaken the city’s small Muslim community, prompting businesses to close and residents to temporarily move away amid fears of a deadly spate of Islamophobic hate crimes.

Then came Tuesday’s news: The suspect, police say, is a 51-year-old man named Muhammad Syed, who is Muslim himself and whose motive may have been related to “interpersonal conflict.”

[…]When asked specifically if Syed, a Sunni Muslim, was angry that his daughter married a Shiite Muslim, Deputy Police Cmdr. Kyle Hartsock did not respond directly. He said “motives are still being explored fully to understand what they are.”

Ahmad Assed, president of the Islamic Center of New Mexico, acknowledged that “there was a marriage,” but he cautioned against coming to any conclusions about the motivation of the suspect, who he said attended the center’s mosque “from time to time.”

      ===========================================
NEW YORK TIMES – Albuquerque Police Detain Suspect in Killings of Muslim Men

The shootings of four Muslim men since November may be connected, the police have said, raising fears in a place where many immigrants and refugees had felt at home.

ALBUQUERQUE — For days, the news that someone might be killing Muslim men in Albuquerque spread fear among the city’s Muslim residents, some of whom were so afraid of becoming the next target that they fled town or hunkered down in their homes.

On Tuesday, the police said they had arrested a man who was himself Muslim and who may have targeted at least two of the victims because he was angry that his daughter had married a man from the other major branch of Islam.

The police said the man, Muhammad Syed, 51, would be charged in two of the killings and that he was a suspect in the other two deaths.

Ahmad Assed, the president of the Islamic Center of New Mexico, a mosque that at least three of the victims had attended, said he understood that the authorities were looking at the possibility that the suspect was a Sunni Muslim who may have been motivated by resentment over a marriage to a Shiite Muslim.

He and the police cautioned that details remained sparse, and Mr. Assed noted that at least one of the victims was Sunni.

Police officials said they were not yet sure if a dispute over a marriage was the sole motive, but said they were aware of it and had found evidence that an “interpersonal conflict” may have led to the shootings. Chief Harold Medina of the Albuquerque Police Department said that it was not yet appropriate to label the killings as either hate crimes or serial murders.

Several hundred people attended a vigil for the victims at the mosque on Tuesday evening. Muslim leaders as well as Roman Catholic, Jewish, Sikh and Mennonite residents spoke about the losses absorbed by Albuquerque’s Muslim community.

“The last two weeks have been nothing but nightmares,” said Tahir Gauba, a director of the mosque. Referring to the arrest of the suspect, he added, “Tonight the Muslim community will sleep in peace.”

The police in Albuquerque first disclosed last Thursday that three killings between November and August could be linked. The next day, a fourth Muslim man who worked as a truck driver was shot and killed in his car, raising further alarms in a city where many refugees and immigrants said they had long felt safe.

As word spread, the authorities received tips about the suspect and a possible vehicle linked to one of the killings. As police officers prepared to execute a search warrant at Mr. Syed’s home on Monday, he drove away in that same vehicle, Kyle Hartsock, a police deputy commander, said at a news conference. Officers stopped and arrested him near Santa Rosa, N.M., which is about 115 miles east of Albuquerque.

Commander Hartsock said the police found several guns at Mr. Syed’s home and one in the car he was driving, and believed two of the weapons were connected to the killings of one man on July 26 and another on Aug. 1. He said the police were continuing to run tests on other firearms they had recovered and believed Mr. Syed may have also been involved in two additional killings, one in November 2021 and the truck driver on Friday.

Mr. Syed had immigrated from Afghanistan and lived in Albuquerque for five or six years, Commander Hartsock said. He saidMr. Syed had faced several domestic violence charges in recent years that were later dismissed.

Mr. Syed’s sons were questioned after his arrest and later released, Commander Hartsock said.

Muhammad Imtiaz Hussain, 41, the brother of the victim killed on Aug. 1, attended the news conference and expressed gratitude that the suspect had been apprehended. He said he was awaiting more details about what had unfolded.

“All I know is that the way my brother was killed was something extraordinary, absolutely not normal,” said Mr. Hussain, a Pakistani immigrant.

The report that the killings might be linked to a sectarian dispute raised the specter of the kind of violence that many immigrants from conflict-ridden countries had hoped to leave behind.

Sunni and Shiite Muslims differ in their beliefs over who was the proper successor to the Prophet Muhammad when he died nearly 1,400 years ago, a foundational dispute that today drives rivalries over religion, territory and political power. The conflict has fueled sectarian violence in several countries, including Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan, but it has been rare in the United States.

Muslim groups quickly condemned the killings and any hint of conflict in the U.S. Islamic community.

“Like Protestants and Catholics, the Sunni and Shia communities in this country live near each other, work with each other and marry each other in peace,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the deputy director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil rights group. “There is no significant history of violence at all in the U.S. between Shias and Sunnis.”

For years, the authorities in Albuquerque had sought to shape the city into a haven for immigrants. Hundreds of refugees from Afghanistan have settled in the city over the past year, since the withdrawal of the U.S. military in that country.

The latest killings come as Albuquerque has been upended by a harrowing spike in gun violence, with the city on pace to see more murders this year than any other on record.

The police said Mr. Syed would be immediately charged in two of the killings: Muhammad Afzaal Hussain, 27, who moved from Pakistan to attend the University of New Mexico and had become president of its graduate student association before going into city planning; and Aftab Hussein, 41, who worked at a local cafe.

Naeem Hussain, the 25-year-old who was killed on Friday, had started his own trucking business and had become a U.S. citizen just weeks earlier.

The recent killings were preceded by the fatal shooting in November of Mohammad Ahmadi, 62, a Muslim immigrant from Afghanistan, who was attacked outside the grocery store that he owned with his brother.

Abrar H. Hashmi, Pakistan’s consul general in Houston, expressed his condolences at Tuesday night’s vigil and extended an offer of assistance to relatives of the victims who wanted to send remains for burial in Pakistan, from which three of the men hailed.

Scrambling to respond, the Albuquerque Police Department began bolstering patrols around the businesses and places of worship that serve as gathering places for the city’s Muslims, estimated to number from 5,000 to 10,000 in a city of over half a million.

In a plea for help from the public, the police over the weekend released a photo of a car, thought to be a dark gray Volkswagen sedan, which they believed was used in the killings.

The fatal shootings came amid a string of murders in the city, explaining, perhaps, why it didn’t seem unusual for the first two killings of Muslim men to go relatively unnoticed.

In 2021, 116 people in the city were killed, according to crime statistics from the Albuquerque Police Department, which exclude justified or negligent homicides. It was the city’s deadliest year on record; one person was killed an average of every three days in November 2021, when Mr. Ahmadi was found dead.

Things have only become worse this year. As of Monday, homicides are on pace to reach 131, surpassing last year by more than a dozen. That’s more than double the average number of homicides from 2010 to 2020, when the city recorded about 53 killings each year.

At the same time, Albuquerque, like other cities around the country, has struggled to fill vacancies in its police force. Since 2014, the department has been under a settlement agreement with the Justice Department to improve its practices, reached after accusations of civil rights violations and excessive force.

Before going into truck driving, Naeem Hussain, the most recent victim, had worked as a case manager for Lutheran Family Services, helping refugees. It was in the parking lot of that organization where Mr. Hussain, a Pashto speaker who had family roots in Pakistan and Afghanistan, was killed while in his car.

Mr. Assed, the president of the mosque, grew up in Albuquerque and described the community as a “welcoming melting pot.” He almost never felt that he stuck out as a Muslim, he said, until a woman was arrested and accused of trying to burn down the mosque last year.

Mr. Assed, who was born in Dearborn, Mich., said that even with increasing xenophobia after the Sept. 11 attacks, Albuquerque seemed to continue to treat the Muslim community with respect, regardless of faith and nationalities.

Yet with the recent killings, many Muslims said they had begun to feel like targets, and fear was even driving some people to make plans to leave New Mexico.

Indeed, the killings jolted an increasingly diverse city, where immigration, largely from Mexico and other Latin American countries, is a major source of population growth and integral to the city’s history. Immigrants from the Middle East, including Muslims and Christians from Lebanon and Syria, put down stakes in Albuquerque and other parts of New Mexico in the late 19th century.

The city gradually saw a new wave of Muslim immigrants in recent decades, with many coming to study at the University of New Mexico. A group of Muslim students came together in the mid-1980s to form the Islamic Center of New Mexico.

Many in the city’s Muslim community come from Pakistan and Afghanistan, while others are from countries including India, Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Sri Lanka. During the Trump administration, when concerns grew over bigotry directed against Muslims, officials passed a bill affirming Albuquerque’s status as an “immigrant friendly” city. It restricted federal immigration agents from entering city-operated facilities and city employees from collecting immigration status information.

At least 300 Afghan refugees have arrived in Albuquerque over the past year, bolstering a growing community reflected today by at least eight different places of worship for Muslims. Albuquerque strengthened outreach efforts through translators speaking Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Urdu and Pashto — languages that officials had prioritized in recent days when sharing information about the killings.

Although Naeem Hussain’s death on Friday heightened the concerns of his community, Ehsan Shahalami, his brother-in-law, said the killing came as a shock.

“There was never any indication of him feeling threatened or being scared of anything,” Mr. Shahalami said. “On the contrary, he was very fond of Albuquerque. He wanted to give back to the place that took him in.”

  2. Massie rightly described what is going on as a hot war, and the flaming volleys are flying over all our heads right now. The Biden administration weaponized the Department of Justice the minute they chose to ignore the fallout from the 2020 Summer of Love and the rampant crime in major cities. Instead of doing what federal law enforcement is tasked to do, they decided to change the definition of domestic terrorist to target people who were nowhere near the Capitol on January 6, and investigate protesting parents who do not like what school boards are doing to their children without their permission.

In other words, the DOJ is looking for more kindling for the fires of this hot war. Getting access to Perry’s phone is an easy way to find more conservatives and freedom-adjacent individuals to target in order to continue the witch hunt. Now that the FBI has the phone, all that’s required is charting associations and connecting dots. It would take months, if not years, for the FBI to get this information legally and legitimately, so they game the system by using the weight of federal force, the government’s own goon squad. Then, when the information found on the phone is somehow leaked, they simply say, “Oops,” and plow forward in their campaign.

  4. Prior to the FBI’s raid Monday on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, a string of whistleblower reports alleged that senior officials at the FBI exhibited a pattern of bias in their handling of politically sensitive investigations and also reclassified cases without justification to substantiate the White House’s public narratives on crime and extremism.

Beginning in late May, Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley called attention to then-Washington Field Office Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault over political bias concerns. Thibault expressed support for several “highly partisan” opinion articles on LinkedIn and made a series of politically charged social media posts, according to Grassley, who referred Thibault to the Office of Special Counsel to address the federal agent’s potential violations of the Hatch Act, which bars government officials from partisan political activity.

Concerns surrounding Thibault escalated in July, as whistleblowers came forward claiming Thibault’s partisan persuasion directly impacted his work at the bureau. While seeking approval from FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland to open an investigation into Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign, Thibault withheld from them that his predicating evidence was based in “substantial part” on information from a “left-aligned organization,” according to Grassley’s office.

  5. House Republicans have asked a former FBI agent to account for whistleblower claims that she pushed her subordinates to classify incidents as “domestic violent extremism” to accommodate the Biden administration’s political narratives.

Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., wrote a letter to former Assistant Director of the FBI Counterterrorism Division and Executive Assistant Director of the National Security Branch Jill Sanborn asking her to testify on the matter.

The Republicans cited reports that “FBI officials were pressuring agents to reclassify cases as ‘domestic violent extremism’ (DVEs) even if the cases do not meet the criteria for such a classification.”

They then elaborated on whistleblower claims that Sanborn directly pressured agents to reclassify cases as DVEs to raise the overall number of such cases.

  6. LONDON, Aug 11 (Reuters) – A 38-year-old man who is accused of being a member of an Islamic State cell dubbed The Beatles and who was deported from Turkey this week appeared in a London court on Thursday after police charged him with terrorism offences.

Prosecutors said they had originally authorised the charging of Aine Davis under terrorism laws in 2014. Davis was arrested at Luton Airport on Wednesday after being deported to Britain from Turkey.

The Islamic State cell assigned to guard foreign prisoners in Syria were dubbed The Beatles by hostages because they were known as English speakers. The group is alleged to have detained and some case killed Western hostages in Syria, including U.S. journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff and aid worker Kayla Mueller.

The FBI is looking for Shahram Poursafi, a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in connection with the Bolton assassination plot, which U.S. officials said was probably planned in retaliation for the strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, a renowned Iranian leader and the head of Iran’s Quds Force, in January 2020.

[…]Stéphane Bancel compared the COVID vaccine to Apple’s iPhone, stating that consumers will get a new version every year.

According to a recent interview with CNN Business, Stéphane Bancel predicted that in the near future, a yearly vaccine would be developed that would protect against multiple strains of COVID-19, the flu, and other common viruses with a single dose.

Moderna plans to release a single-dose annual booster for coronavirus, flu, and other respiratory virus within five years.

[…]“A lot of us buy a new iPhone every September, and you get new apps and you get refreshed apps. And that’s exactly the same idea, which is you’ll get Covid and flu and RSV in your single dose,” he added.

yahoo –Moderna CEO discusses COVID-19 risks, vaccine boosters, MRNA technology and more

    • CNN – Moderna CEO says Covid vaccines will evolve like ‘an iPhone’

Forget taking two to three Covid shots a year. Moderna hopes to roll out a single-dose annual booster to cover the coronavirus, the flu and another common respiratory virus within the next five years.

As Covid-19 continues to mutate, Moderna will need to keep updating the vaccines that turned it into a global household name while trying to make it more convenient for consumers, CEO Stéphane Bancel said in an interview with CNN Business Wednesday.

He estimated a timeline of “three to five years” for the new combined product, and likened the development of the life-saving jab to that of a smartphone.

“You don’t get the amazing camera, amazing everything the first time you get an iPhone, but you get a lot of things,” he said.

“A lot of us buy a new iPhone every September, and you get new apps and you get refreshed apps. And that’s exactly the same idea, which is you’ll get Covid and flu and RSV [respiratory syncytial virus] in your single dose.”

Having recorded breakneck growth during the pandemic, Moderna (MRNA) is now under pressure to identify its next big frontier.

Bancel believes the Covid-19 pandemic that helped the company rack up tens of billions of dollars in revenue and generate business in more than 70 markets globally could end as soon as this year.
That doesn’t mean the virus is going anywhere, he noted.

“I think we are slowly moving — if not already in some countries — to a world where all the tools are available, and everybody can make their own decision based on their risk tolerance,” he explained, adding that he believed more people would choose to “live with the virus,” much like they do with the flu.

The approach, however, will continue to vary greatly, such as among people who are immunocompromised or in countries like Japan, where it was common to wear masks even before the pandemic, he acknowledged.

And “there’s always a 20% probability that we get a very nasty variant that drives very severe disease that has a lot of mutation,” he added.

      The next big thing

Still, Moderna is determined not to become a one-hit wonder.
The company has more than 40 products in development, and is planning for life well beyond Covid-19, said Bancel.

In addition to an updated annual booster, it is continuing to develop a personalized cancer vaccine, for which new clinical data will drop later this year. Bancel said the product could go up for approval in roughly two years if all goes well.

The company is also exploring a potential monkeypox jab, which is “still in the lab today,” Bancel said. The World Health Organization declared the global outbreak of the illness a public health emergency of international concern last month.

And Moderna is looking to catch up to competitors overseas.

Earlier this year, it announced a push into 10 Asian and European markets, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Denmark and the Netherlands. The investments will cost “dozens of millions of dollars” and include hundreds of new hires, said Bancel.

He sees that as just one wave of expansion that will eventually take Moderna from directly operating in 12 countries this year to “40 to 60 countries” over the next three years.

The company also recently signed manufacturing agreements in the United Kingdom, South Korea and Australia, and is hoping to set up one or two more plants in Southeast Asia or North Asia.

Bancel said the new facilities would be crucial to helping adapt its products to different strains of illnesses that develop around the world.

As the world first dealt with the onset of Covid-19, Moderna was one of the handful of large manufacturers that rushed to get their vaccines ready, reducing timelines from years to months. Its stock rallied 434% in 2020 and 143% last year.

But now, like peers Pfizer (PFE) and BioNTech (BNTX), the firm’s stock has slumped, dropping more than 30% so far this year and 64% from its all-time high a year ago.

Last week, the company revealed that it took a writedown of nearly $500 million in the second quarter, partly because of a sudden cancellation of orders from Covax, the international vaccination program for lower-income countries.

The reversal led to huge losses for the company, which had bought new machines to fulfill those orders, and more importantly, resulted in Covid vaccines being thrown in the trash, said Bancel.
“We ended up destroying the vaccines,” he said. “It was really heartbreaking.”

The CEO said he wasn’t worried about that kind of slide in demand being repeated in richer countries, in part because governments had already shown commitments to use vaccines later this year to avoid reintroducing economic lockdowns.

But “on the low-income country side, yes, I am worried,” he said.

Historian and MSNBC contributor Michael Beschloss raised the specter of the execution of President Trump in response to a Washington Post report Thursday that concerns about nuclear documents motivated the Biden administration’s raid on Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida home, Mar-a-Lago on Monday. Trump said on Friday the report is a hoax.

Beschloss posted to Twitter a photo of American spies for the Soviet Union, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were executed on the 1950s for giving nuclear weapons secrets to the Russians, “Rosenbergs were convicted for giving U.S. nuclear secrets to Moscow, and were executed June 1953:”

On Friday President Trump’s chief spokesperson Liz Harrington joined Steve Bannon on The War Room.

This was after the Deep State released its latest attack on Trump in the Washington Post.

The fake news is now pushing that Trump stole nuclear secrets. They get more absurd by the day.

Look for the 51 principled former intelligence officers to back them up.

Liz Harrington: President Trump stands in the way. That’s why they have to rush in. They already have the red flag laws with a couple of our supporters and friends, Republicans. They’ve done the red flag laws, they’re coming for the guns. Now they’re trying to get the 87,000 (IRS) agents. We need everyone. President Trump issued a call on Truth Social today. We need everyone to stop this bill. This is what they’re doing in plain sight. That’s the game here. They’re coming. They stole the election. Now they’re going to do everything they can to fortify that thievery. That’s what they’re trying to do. President Trump stands in their way because he stands for the people… It’s backfiring on them. More and more people are uniting and saying we see what the real game is. It’s the weaponized government against its own people. And we’re not going to stand for it.

  12. the conservative tree house –Watch for Falling Anvils, The Washington Post Claims FBI Raid Was Looking for Super-Secret Nuclear Intel in Mar-a-Lago

They should have gone with the aliens angle. I said earlier today after watching the frozen-faced, nervous teleprompter reading from AG Merrick Garland, that Main Justice and the FBI had completely embarrassed themselves and likely came up empty in their raid on Mar-a-Lago.

The reason is simple, when you put a tribe of rabid leftists together in a room long enough, they will collectively concoct the goofiest plans in an effort to advance their quests. The DOJ and FBI lawfare tribe are no different. The Washington Post is now claiming the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago was connected to some “nuclear information” in Donald Trump’s possession.

As the theory is presented, Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un were speaking in coded language about rockets and missiles. President Trump called Chairman Kim “little rocket man”, and said the USA had bigger missiles.

Contemplate that type of insufferably innocuous nonsense long enough and in desperation it evolves into a plan to claim a national security threat might exist. Quick, grab Boris and Natasha and raid the estate…. but watch for dropping Acme anvils.

The Washington Post reported that the FBI sought to locate classified documents related to nuclear weapons, among other items, when agents searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

CNN’s John Berman spoke with reporter Shane Harris who broke the story.

    • FBI Removed ‘Eleven Sets’ Of Classified Docs In Raid; Allies Insist Trump Declassified

Update (1325ET): The DOJ leak-fest continues, this time with the Wall Street Journal reporting that the FBI “removed 11 sets of classified documents, including some marked as top secret and meant to only be available in special government facilities” (much like the files on Hillary Clinton’s computer).

The Federal Bureau of Investigation agents took around 20 boxes of items, binders of photos, a handwritten note and the executive grant of clemency for Mr. Trump’s ally Roger Stone, a list of items removed from the property shows. Also included in the list was information about the “President of France,” according to the three-page list. The list is contained in a seven-page document that also includes the warrant to search the premises which was granted by a federal magistrate judge in Florida. -WSJ

One set of the recovered documents were marked as “Various classified/TS/SCI documents,” referring to sensitive or top-secret information.

The agency also claims they collected four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents, and three sets of confidential documents.

According to the Journal’s subheadline, Trump allies insist the documents were declassified by the former president.

[…]Former President Donald Trump on Friday called a Thursday report in WaPo that he took classified documents related to nuclear weapons “a hoax,” and compared it to the FBI’s use of the discredited ‘Steele Dossier’ – a notorious fabrication used during and after the 2016 US election to discredit Trump as a Russian asset.

“Nuclear weapons issue is a Hoax, just like Russia, Russia, Russia was a Hoax, two Impeachments were a Hoax, the Mueller investigation was a Hoax, and much more,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding “Same sleazy people involved.”

“Why wouldn’t the FBI allow the inspection of areas at Mar-a-Lago with our lawyer’s [sic], or others present. Made them wait outside in the heat, wouldn’t let them get even close — said ‘ABSOLUTELY NOT.”

“Planting information anyone? Reminds me of a Christofer Steele Dossier!”

    • conservative tree house –Bluff Called, President Trump Responds to Ridiculous DOJ and FBI Claims of Nuclear Documents at Mar-a-Lago

The raid on President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate coincides with developments in the civil lawsuit he filed against Hillary Clinton, Perkins Coie, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page, Peter Strzok and the entire cabal of DOJ, FBI and Clinton campaign operatives via the fake Trump-Russia collusion hoax known as ‘spygate’.

      It doesn’t take a deep political analyst to look at the 108-page lawsuit, consider the evidence that would be needed to prove the lawsuit at trial, then overlay the timing of the court case and FBI raid to see both the content of the files at Mar-a-Lago and the motives of the DOJ and FBI to intercept them. {GO DEEP}

The severity of the raid highlights the desperation and political intent behind it. The ridiculous justification for the raid, nuclear documents, highlights the unstable desperation to control the political damage from it.

      ===========================================
BREITBART – Exclusive: Warrant Shows DOJ, FBI Waited Several Days After Judge Approved to Conduct Mar-a-Lago Raid

The warrant that authorized the search of former President Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago shows it was issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart on Aug. 5, 2022, at 12:12 p.m.—nearly three full days before the Justice Department and FBI conducted a raid to execute it.

The raid did not occur until the morning of Aug. 8, 2022, when federal agents from the FBI arrived at Mar-a-Lago to execute the search warrant.

The document, obtained and reviewed by Breitbart News, shows that the DOJ and FBI waited several days after Reinhart approved the warrant to conduct the raid, something that severely undercuts the talking points issued by Attorney General Merrick Garland in a public statement on Thursday when he broke his silence to discuss the matter in televised remarks.

Why the authorities waited several days to execute service of the warrant if the matter rose to such a serious national security issue is unclear. If what federal agents intended to obtain from the raid was such a risk to national security, the fact they decided to linger and wait for several days before executing is likely to become a major point of contention as this debate plays out in front of the public.

Garland announced in his public remarks on Thursday that the Department of Justice had moved to unseal the warrant and inventory list of documents obtained from the raid. Trump indicated in public statements on Thursday evening that he would support such a move and wants the documents out in public. It is expected these documents, including the warrant that has been reviewed by Breitbart News, will be made public by the court soon, later on Friday or in the coming days.

The documents obtained by Breitbart News include the warrant, two accompanying attachments specifying terms for the warrant, and a property receipt outlining the inventory federal agents seized from Mar-a-Lago.

      UPDATE: 1:51 p.m. ET:

The inventory list of what was seized—or the receipt part of the document—is three pages long and constitutes two separate receipts, one that is two pages long and another that is one page long. Both receipts were signed by Trump’s attorney Christina Bobb and dated on Monday Aug. 8, 2022, at 6:19 p.m. The longer receipt was signed by FBI Special Agent Jeremy Linton and the shorter receipt was signed by the name: “L. Grady Gary” and includes the title SSA. It is unclear who that person is, and the handwriting is not the clearest.

      UPDATE 2:01 p.m. ET:

The first receipt lists out 28 numbered items, including some that have sub-headers. Some of the items are actually named like item number 1 which says it was an “Executive Grant of Clemency re: Roger Jason Stone, Jr.” or 1A which says it is “Info re: President of France.”

Others like item number 2 are less specific. That item says it is a “Leatherbound box of documents.” Item 2A says it contained “Various Classified/TS/SCI documents.”

Item number 3 says it was a “potential presidential record,” and items numbers 5 and 6 both say they were a “binder of photos.”

Item number 7 says it was a “handwritten note,” and items 8, 9, and 10 were boxes labeled A-1, A-12, and A-15 respectively. Item 10A specifies that that item allegedly contained “Miscellaneous Secret Documents.”

The rest of the receipt document is similar and unspecific—explaining that several boxes, some allegedly containing various documents of various classifications—were among the rest of the items the FBI seized per this receipt.

      UPDATE 2:04 p.m. ET:

The second receipt is much shorter, and less specific. The first item on that one just says “documents,” and the rest are just numbered boxes.

      UPDATE 2:21 p.m. ET:

Another interesting fact from the warrant is that Judge Reinhart gave the Justice Department and FBI a lot of time to execute it. While the DOJ and FBI took their time–waiting three days to do it–technically the document says that Reinhart authorized the feds to wait even longer all the way until next Friday on Aug. 19 to execute it. While we still do not have the underlying affidavits that represent what the FBI and DOJ took to the judge to seek and gain his approval for the warrant, that seems to indicate that the judge did not think this is so serious that immediate or urgent action was needed to be taken as he gave the authorities two full weeks–or 14 full days–in which to execute the warrant.

      UPDATE 2:25 p.m. ET:

Attachment B to the warrant delineates the three statutes which agents are pursuing evidence under. They are: 18 U.S.C. § § 793, 2071, and 1519.

      UPDATE 2:34 p.m. ET:

Attachment A to the warrant delineates where the agents can search and where they cannot at Mar-a-Lago. Specifically, it says that agents could search the “45 Office,” and “all storage rooms, and all other rooms or areas within the premises used or available to be used by” the former President of the United States [the document uses the abbreviation FPOTUS] “and his staff and in which boxes or documents could be stored, including all structures or buildings on the estate.” This attachment does however said agents are not authorized to search areas “currently (i.e., at the time of the search) being occupied, rented, or used by third parties (such as Mar-a-Lago members) and not otherwise used or available to be used by FPOTUS and his staff, such as private guest suites.”

      UPDATE 2:37 p.m. ET:

Further fleshing out Attachment B, which contains the most information about the goals and intent of the DOJ and FBI at this stage of any document short of the as-of-now-still-unavailable affidavit, what it does is list three criminal statutes under which items are to be searched and seized. They are: 18 U.S.C. section 793, which deals with defense information; 18 U.S.C. section 1519, which deals with destroying federal documents; and 18 U.S.C. section 2071, which deals with concealing, removing, or damaging federal documents. The first statute is the one that has likely provoked media speculation about so-called “nuclear” documents: it applies to a broad range of defense “information,” from code books to ordinary photographs.

      UPDATE 2:43 p.m. ET:

All of this is technically irrelevant anyway because Trump–who as president has original and absolute declassification authority–said he declassified all of these documents. “Number one, it was all declassified,” Trump said on Truth Social moments ago. “Number two, they didn’t need to ‘seize’ anything. They could have had it anytime they wanted without playing politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago. It was in secured storage, with an additional lock put on as per their request.”

This is a developing story and more information will come soon.

Now We Know the Three Crimes Donald Trump Allegedly Committed from the FBI’s Search Warrant

The three crimes that Donald Trump allegedly committed by reportedly removing classified documents and storing them at his Mar-A-Lago statement have been revealed according to the FBI’s search warrant.

The FBI’s search warrant lists three crimes, per a new exclusive report from Breitbart News:

18 USC 2071 — Concealment, removal or mutilation
18 USC 793 — Gathering, transmitting or losing defence information
18 USC 1519 — Destruction, alteration or falsification of records in Federal investigations

The search warrant lists “three criminal statutes under which items are to be searched and seized,” Breitbart News reported. “They are: 18 U.S.C. section 793, which deals with defense information; 18 U.S.C. section 1519, which deals with destroying federal documents; and 18 U.S.C. section 2071, which deals with concealing, removing, or damaging federal documents. The first statute is the one that has likely provoked media speculation about so-called ‘nuclear’ documents: it applies to a broad range of defense ‘information,’ from code books to ordinary photographs.”

Donald Trump reacted to the accusation that he committed these crimes on Truth Social on Friday afternoon.

“Number one, it was all declassified,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Number two, they didn’t need to ‘seize’ anything. They could have had it anytime they wanted without playing politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago. It was in secured storage, with an additional lock put on as per their request.”

Trump earlier on Friday unloaded on alleged ‘bombshell’ reports that he allegedly hid classified nuclear weapons documents at his Mar-A-Lago home for over 18 months after leaving his office.

Salman Rushdie, the author whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was attacked Friday as he was about to give a lecture in western New York.

An Associated Press reporter witnessed a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and begin punching or stabbing Rushdie as he was being introduced. The 75-year-old author was pushed or fell to the floor, and the man was restrained.

Rushdie was quickly surrounded by a small group of people who held up his legs, presumably to send more blood to his chest.

His condition was not immediately known.

Hundreds of people in the audience gasped at the sight of the attack and were then evacuated.

Rushdie’s book “The Satanic Verses” has been banned in Iran since 1988, as many Muslims consider it to be blasphemous. A year later, Iran’s late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, or edict, calling for Rushdie’s death.
