Reader’s Links for July 7th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. UKRAINE REQUIRES WOMEN TO REGISTER FOR MILITARY CONSCRIPTION AS RUSSIA THREAT LOOMS
    MIL & INTEL

KYIV, Ukraine — Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has significantly expanded the pool of Ukrainian women who are required to register for possible military conscription in the event of a major war.

According to an updated regulation that went into effect Friday, Dec. 17,[2021] women between 18 and 60 who are “fit for military service” and work in a broad range of professions are required to register with Ukraine’s armed forces. In the event of a major war, this expanded reserve of women can be mobilized as part of the national reserve to serve in a broad range of military specialties.

      Good riddance

      • My only problem with it is that pointing to it was amazing evidence of what we are trying to explain to people is going on.

When I heard about it, I was actually kind of annoyed that someone was destroying the evidence of what we few are trying to convince the sleepy majority is taking place.

Also I don’t like erasing history when possible. But the main thing is, now I don’t have anything physical to point to, when I want to prove there is a conspiracy to do these things.

If no one is arrested for this action, we can bet it was that side that did it, for the reasons I am pointing out here. Like how if Johnson in the UK is replaced with a more extreme communist, we can know it was the left who took him out.

        • I have told hundreds of people about the Guidestones and they have laughed in my face. They say more fake news. That evidence was put up in 1979, unveiled March 22, 1980. I am glad it is down, now what is next. I find it absolutely amazing that the same clowns who put the stones up, unelected madmen are now dictating to the WORLD how WE are going to live. I cannot believe the number of Canadians who support this nonsense, will they give up their life to make this happen?

Dr. Kieran Moore, wants all people in Ontario who have not been vaccinated to get the first and second shots now.
Why, because there is a seventh wave here now.

When is he going to announce he got a 4 million dollar grant from Pfizer? He know nothing about the quota of vaccinated injured people has been filled? C’mon man.

I will NEVER comply and neither should anyone else. The global madmen can go to hell.
Mad Max time is just around the corner.

Oh I forgot just as Fancy Nancy, Madder than hell Maxine Waters, OAC and all the rest of the incompetent ones have said “they have the right to protest”.

How many churches have been burned down in Canada?
How many people have died from the vaccines? History will not be kind to the collaborators.

      • I agree with Eeyore.

As more and more people are questioning the boosters, the food shortages, price hikes, cattle barns torched to the ground every few days, the list is endless, we need a visual reminder of their agenda.

IMHO, they did it. It would have been so much better had it been vandalized with paint.

  6. The US Has Elite Troops But Are They Really What Ukraine Needs Right Now?

Times is out with a new article, In Ukraine, US Veterans Step In Where the Military Will Not, touting the magical powers of veterans of U.S. Special Operations units signing up to go train Ukrainians and help turn the tide of the war. I am not discounting their bravery and skill, but U.S. Special Operations forces have little role to play in the conventional war unfolding in Ukraine.

The average person, American and otherwise, use the term “Special Forces” interchangeably with “Special Operations Forces”. That is a mistake. Special Forces, in U.S. military parlance, refers to Green Berets.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/07/us-elite-troops-really-ukraine-needs-right-now/

    • One reason for the Special Operators to be there is to discover the effectiveness of the Russian equipment as well as the weakness of said equipment. Actual combat reveals both much better then field testing. They also see our equipment in action against a high tech enemy instead of the low tech enemies we have been fighting.

      • It’s crazy.
Checking equipment won’t justify the war we’ll bring on ourselves. We’re already WAY too deeply implicated, calling the shots on the ground. Playing with tech toys.

        And we’re losing BADLY.
Our weapons have flaws, but that’s the least of it. Tactics – checkers vs. chess.

The arrogance of doing proxy war as openly as we’re doing it – beyond insane. We know we can beat jihadis, but we are in serious trouble with a near-peer competitor.

We have a LONG way to go before we’re ready to go up against EITHER Russia OR China, let alone both. We better get out of there fast.

        • You are right. I was explaining the training war part not saying why we are insisting on a shooting war.

My best guess is the America and Freedom haters want to destroy all existing nations so they can take over.

      • field testing

I thought that too. Because of history.
But watching history in the making, I’m seeing things differently. There’s a sequence here, this war will change as things move west.

For Putin and some [many?] Russian-speaking Ukrainians, *The Donbass* is RUSSIA, not a testing ground. So it’s fought kilometer by kilometer, hill by hill. If -and when- it gets west of the Dnieper, not so dainty.

Baby brother, then step-brother. Beyond that, it’s testing ground or all-out Grozny. Thermobaric, HIMARS, tactical nukes, whatever.

The Russians try to avoid heavily fortified urban agglomerations: Mariupol was a disaster they’ll try not to repeat. They figure it’s THEIR infrastructure, and they want to be seen as liberators by the people. And that’s largely the case. Almost immediately they set up clinics, start fixing roads. Bring in Russian media, fluffy-kitty stuff.

This war is hugely unpopular all over Ukraine, except the far west that is essentially Poland. It’s a big country, so it’s quiet in many regions. We heard from friends in Kryvyi Rih where everything’s normal. But they absolutely do not want to fight. Not for or against any country: “Nato should mind its own business!”

There are terrible hotspots. Kharkiv in the northeast, almost on the border with Russia, will be *leveled*. Russian-speaking Russians who hate Russians. Most of the others left the country. It may become an object lesson.

    by Burak Bekdil

was another happy time in Madrid, of half-baked, Kodak-moment pleasantries when the leaders of 30 NATO member states posed for the cameras with broad family smiles. They were on display for Turkey’s Islamist president, Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, for having removed his veto against the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO. How did that happen? The stick.

On June 23, Turkey’s top defense procurement official, Ismail Demir, said that Turkey must be cautious when it comes to delivering more weapons to Ukraine amid the war with Russia. The statement was a clear sign that Ankara did not want to annoy Moscow with the sale to Ukraine of the Turkish-made TB-2 armed drones which, in the early days of the war, were instrumental, but later became easy targets for Russian air defenses.

  11. Relative Weakness: The Secret to Understanding Irregular Warfare

By Dr. Douglas A. Borer and Dr. Shannon C. Houck

Irregular warfare is an approach to peer-to-peer competition that Congressional legislators and civilian policymakers must better understand. Irregular warfare is how the Taliban drove the Western Alliance out of Afghanistan, and it is how Ukraine is presently checking Russia’s invasion of its territory. As these cases show, in the year 2022, the weak have won (and can win) wars. Knowing how to fight from a position of relative weakness is the true secret to understanding irregular warfare.

One essential requirement is confessional. The United States is often weak, but it is usually unwilling to recognize, let alone admit, its common weaknesses. For instance, in Afghanistan (and subsequently in Iraq), the US went to war with a belief that inside every Afghan was an American waiting to jump out. All we had to do is show up, remove their bad leaders, show them how liberal democracy works, provide economic and technical aid, and they would all commit themselves to giving up the old ways of sorting things out and resolve conflict through peaceful means (Note: a

    • The authors make some very good points but I think they are ignoring other possibilities, the main one is that Putin is using Ukraine as a training war to “blood” a large percentage of his Army. It also gives him the opportunity to test his weapons against NATO’s weapons. The Western nations are feeding our newest weapons letting both sides learn their strengths and weaknesses.

    • Prior to WWII there were 2 training wars, the Spanish Civil War and the war between Russia and Finland. Both wars tested new equipment and blooded troops that were used in WWII. The current training war is testing the equipment of both sides and generating the tensions that will lead to WWIII.

In a movement of sheer masochism, the West encouraged political developments that would destroy systems designed as a safeguard against extremism,” writes Alexandre Goodarzy in a new Sophia Institute Press translation of his French memoirs. In Kidnapped in Iraq: A Christian Humanitarian Tells His Story, this French Catholic aid worker critically examines foolish Western beliefs that the 2011 “Arab Spring” would democratize the Middle East.

Working in Syria and the wider Middle East with SOS Chretiéns d’Orient, an organization assisting beleaguered Middle East Christians, Goodarzy experienced firsthand Syria’s post-2011 fall into sectarian violence. As he learned, jihadists, not democrats, dominated the revolt against Syria’s dictator, Bashar al-Assad. Yet his ruthlessness earned him infamy among many in the West as “our best enemy—the one we loved to hate,” Goodarzy notes.

  17. Why the Left Truly Is Evil (and Not Stupid)
“When a person shows you who they are, believe them.”

    Thu Jul 7, 2022Kevin McCullough20 comments

In America this minute leftists can no longer be given the benefit of the doubt. They are pushing an agenda that is evil. They are hellbent on accomplishing it and they are saying so publicly.

The late Charles Krauthammer was the person credited for the intriguing binary observation that “conservatives view the left as stupid,” but that “liberals view conservatives as evil.”
We see evidence of that second part constantly. The vehement hatred of those who support America First is proven every day. The hatred burns so deeply in fact that they seek out ways to create out of whole cloth imaginative conspiracies of Trump working with Russia and double impeachments based on literally no evidence.

They justify the advancement of ludicrous stories of deranged presidents lurching at steering wheels—even when one or more secret service personnel were present and are able to testify to the opposite.

They claim pro-lifers hate women. They claim that parents who don’t want drag queens in their kids’ schools are bigots. And they especially despise people who are faithful to God, family, and nation.

Nope, there exists plenty of evidence that the second part of Krauthammer’s theory is true.

So what about the first half? Should conservatives any longer give the left the benefit of the doubt as to their policies? Should we innocently believe they are simply misinformed as opposed to radically devoted agents to an agenda that is not only anti-American but that in fact is… evil?

    • Thank you Richard. I used to partake in politics and 30 years ago I explained to some young girls, when you do not have the capacity to think for yourself, you hang with Liberals, not that I thought they were stupid.

Gerald Butts, one of Justine Trudeau’s BFFs is a champion at plant the seed – say something the gullible ones will repeat and repeat and repeat even if you know it is a lie – – it is all about interpretation. I don’t like the word liar, but there are so many liars in politics – I now calls them as I sees them.

  21. German Economy Minister Urges Canada to Send Turbine for Nord Stream to Germany

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck urged Canada to resolve the issue with the Nord Stream turbine, asking to send the turbine to Germany, and not to Russia, if this is a legal issue for Ottawa.

“If it’s a legal question for Canada, I want to make clear that I’m not asking them to deliver it to Russia, but to bring it to Germany,” Habeck told Bloomberg. “It is with a heavy heart that we had to ask for this.”

“If we want to take this road of excuses away from him, I’m calling on the Canadian government not to wait too long and make the decision before the maintenance period starts,” the minister also said.

In mid-June, Germany and Canada confirmed that active negotiations were being pursued to return the Nord Stream 1 turbines. Russia had said the flows of natural gas would be reduced or completely halted without the turbines.

bloomberg – Germany’s Habeck urges Canada to help thwart Putin on gas

Germany’s vice chancellor made a public plea to the Canadian government to release a turbine that’s caught up in sanctions against Russia and critical for gas flows to Europe.

Economy Minister Robert Habeck told Bloomberg that the turbine for the Nord Stream 1 pipeline needs to be returned before maintenance work begins on Monday. Releasing the component would remove an excuse for Russian President Vladimir Putin to keep the conduit closed.

“I’ll be the first one who will fight for a further strong EU sanction package, but strong sanctions means it must hurt and harm Russia and Putin more than it does our economy,” Habeck said in a phone interview late Wednesday. “Therefore, I ask for understanding that we have to take this turbine excuse away from Putin.”

Germany is facing the prospect of rationing energy in the coming months, which could hit businesses and consumers and drag Europe’s largest economy into recession. Officials have warned that Russia could shut Nord Stream long term after the two-week maintenance period on Russia’s biggest gas link to Europe. Flows were already slashed by 60 per cent in June over the turbine issue, hampering Germany’s efforts to store sufficient supplies for the winter.

“We need capacities in Nord Stream 1 to fill up our storage,” said Habeck. “Filled storage capacities in Germany are not only important for the German market, but as well for the European market and for the security of supply in Europe.”

The supply squeeze has unsettled gas markets. Europe’s benchmark futures, which have doubled in value over the past month, on Thursday were headed for the longest stretch of daily gains in more than nine months.

The higher prices coupled with a supply shortage is putting companies such as Uniper SE at risk. Germany’s biggest buyer of Russian gas is in talks with the government over a bailout as it struggles to fulfill delivery contracts amid the price surge. Habeck said the situation risks creating “cascading effects” for Germany’s energy system.

Habeck said the situation risks creating “cascading effects” for Germany’s energy system.

The turbine, built in Canada by Siemens Energy AG, was sent to Montreal for repairs but became stranded due to sanctions on Russia’s oil and gas industry announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government last month. Acknowledging the legal bind created by the Canadian sanctions, the vice chancellor proposed a workaround.

“If it’s a legal question for Canada, I want to make clear that I’m not asking them to deliver it to Russia, but to bring it to Germany,” Habeck said. “It is with a heavy heart that we had to ask for this.”

    G-7 WRANGLING

The unusual public appeal came two days after Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a call with Trudeau on European energy security, and a week after the prime minister was in Germany for a Group of Seven leaders summit, which focused in large part on fallout from Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Canadian officials were non-committal when asked about Germany’s plea for help on the sanctioned turbine.

“We will not stop imposing severe costs on the Putin regime while their unjustifiable invasion is ongoing,” Ian Cameron, a spokesman for Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, said by email. “We will continue to support our European friends and allies by working to help stabilize energy markets and to develop long-term and sustainable solutions on energy supplies.”

Habeck said Putin may exploit the turbine issue to threaten Germany’s gas supply despite the fact the pipeline can still operate. He said he believes state-run Russian gas giant Gazprom PJSC, which operates the pipeline, has another working turbine it could use in the meantime.

“We shouldn’t make the mistake that we believe Putin’s propaganda,” Habeck said. Returning the equipment before the scheduled shutdown might not resolve the issue, but it would undermine one of Putin’s potential arguments for keeping the pipeline closed afterward, he added.

“If we want to take this road of excuses away from him, I’m calling on the Canadian government not to wait too long and make the decision before the maintenance period starts,” Habeck said. “Otherwise I’m quite sure that Putin will find a political problem in the pipeline.”

Europe is facing its biggest energy crisis in decades, with prime supplier Russia curbing gas shipments in retaliation over sanctions and Europe’s military support for Ukraine. Germany is rushing through legislation this week that allows it to rescue struggling firms in an effort to limit the effects of a supply crunch and surging energy costs for consumers.

Soon after the Siemens turbine was stranded last month, Gazprom slashed flows through Nord Stream. The summer is a critical time to replenish reserves needed to heat homes and run factories over the winter. The country is targeting 90 per cent capacity by Nov. 1. The level stood at 62.6 per cent on Wednesday.

Germany’s vice chancellor made a public plea to the Canadian government to release a turbine that’s caught up in sanctions against Russia and critical for gas flows to Europe.

reuters – EXCLUSIVE Ukraine urges Canada not to hand over gas turbine to Russia

Ukraine opposes Canada handing over a turbine to Russia’s state-controlled Gazprom for natural gas supplies to Germany as the move would contravene sanctions on Russia, a Ukrainian energy ministry source told Reuters on Thursday.

Gazprom (GAZP.MM) cut the capacity along the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to just 40% of usual levels last month, citing the delayed return of equipment being serviced by Germany’s Siemens Energy (ENR1n.DE), (SIEGn.DE) in Canada.

“The sanctions forbid the transfer of any equipment related to gas,” the energy ministry source said.

“If, God forbid, this decision is approved, we will undoubtedly appeal to our European colleagues that their approach must be reassessed. Because if countries do not follow decisions they have agreed about sanctions, how can we talk about solidarity?”

The Canadian Ministry of Natural Resources did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Germany’s economy and foreign ministries were not immediately available for comment.

A senior energy ministry source told Reuters that Ukraine had information that Canada was preparing to hand over the turbine.

A decision to return the turbine had already been taken, a source familiar with the issue said, adding that Canada and Germany do not want the turbine to be an excuse for Russia to cut gas supplies going through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko in June lobbied Canada not to return the turbine to the Russian natural gas giant, according to a letter seen by Reuters.

The minister argued in the letter that Russia still had more than enough capacity through its transit routes to maintain supply without the turbine located in Canada.

“There are seven turbines, this is only one of them, and those that are now operating are sufficient for full capacity,” the energy ministry source said.

Ukraine has accused Moscow of using natural gas supplies as a weapon to put pressure on Kyiv’s European allies to dampen their support for Ukraine as it fends off Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion.

Canada’s large Ukrainian community also has lobbied Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government not to return the turbine to Russia.

Kyiv has repeatedly called for more sanctions to be imposed.

“If the decision is made by the Canadians to hand over the turbine, regardless of whether it’s to Gazprom or to Germany for it to hand it over further … this would be a precedent of two G7 countries circumventing sanctions imposed against Russia,” the energy ministry source said.

reuters – Canada’s Ukrainian community urges Trudeau not to return Russian gas turbine

-Canada’s Ukrainian community is urging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to refuse to compromise the country’s sanctions against Russia in order to return a turbine that Moscow says is critical for supplying natural gas to Germany.

Russia’s state-controlled Gazprom cut the capacity along the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to just 40% of usual levels last month, citing the delayed return of equipment being serviced by Germany’s Siemens Energy in Canada.

Canada has one of the world’s biggest Ukrainian diasporas outside of countries that border Ukraine and it has successfully pressured Ottawa to impose increasingly strict sanctions against Russia since it invaded Ukraine in February.

Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) national president Alexandra Chyczij urged Trudeau, in a letter on Wednesday, to see through Russia’s “obvious ploy” to divide Ukraine’s allies.

Ottawa should instead broker a solution that does not involve waiving sanctions, she wrote in the letter, posted on UCC’s website.

“Any waiver of Canadian sanctions would be viewed as a capitulation to Russian blackmail and energy terrorism, and would only serve to embolden the Russian terrorist state,” Chyczij said.

In an interview, UCC CEO Ihor Michalchyshyn said the group is acting independently and not receiving direction from Kyiv regarding lobbying Ottawa about the turbine.

The Canadian government has not responded to the UCC’s letter, he said.

“We have not gotten reassurance of anything, either way,” Michalchyshyn said. “That’s why we’re quite concerned.”

A Canadian government source said the Ukrainian government itself opposes the turbine’s return.

Trudeau’s office had no immediate comment on the letter.

“We will not stop imposing severe costs on the Putin regime while their unjustifiable invasion is ongoing and we will continue to support our European friends and allies,” said Ian Cameron, spokesman for Canada’s natural resources minister, in a statement.

The Russian embassy in Ottawa said Russia has no role to play in returning the turbine.

“It is a problem between Canada and Germany,” the embassy said in a statement. “We would welcome the release of the turbine which could help to restore gas flow to Europe.”

The technical problem with the turbine is merely a Russian pretext, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said last week.

Canada, alongside its Western allies, has issued sweeping sanctions on Russia after Moscow sent troops into Ukraine in what the Kremlin calls a “special military operation.”

Humiliation piled on humiliation for Iran’s spy agencies
    (Arab News-Saudi Arabia)

It turns out Iran’s intelligence services aren’t so intelligent after all. After a series of mortifying failures, Hossein Taeb – Iran’s “untouchable” spy chief, with close ties to the supreme leader – has been summarily thrown overboard.

This was a man who enjoyed immense power and unimaginable resources, and was responsible for crushing domestic dissent and eliminating threats and irritants overseas.

Taeb climbed to the top of Iran’s greasy pole in 2009 through playing a prominent role in the mass killing and torture of protesters. In recent days the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps lauded such atrocities as great accomplishments.

Taeb was exposed as comically incompetent when Israeli agents assassinated at least seven nuclear scientists and intelligence officials in the past two months. Attackers struck deep inside some of Iran’s most secret locations; they came out of nowhere then simply melted away, giving rise to confused reports in the Iranian media about killer robots, suicide drones, masked assassins and self-firing machineguns.

Some of these sabotage operations were overseen from neighboring Azerbaijan and Iraqi Kurdistan. Those coordinating the strikes succeeded in recruiting significant numbers of Iranians with the necessary skills and connections, probably including employees at these sites, and even carried out two attacks on the flagship Natanz nuclear plant…

The Revolutionary Guards probably don’t want a revived nuclear deal. The paradoxical impact of sanctions has been that most oil is smuggled out via their vast economic conglomerates, and as the price soars they are making a killing. Their revenues now mostly come from outside the official government budget, something that wouldn’t be tenable if the deal were revived…

The Islamic Republic is its own worst enemy. The most likely prospect for slaying this dragon is collapse from within: Iranians hate this regime and much of the country is a patchwork of oppressed minorities who sooner or later will unite to oust the detested ayatollahs.

Regional powers are right to put their energies into a defensive alliance to counter Iranian expansionism; the only regret is that this didn’t happen 40 years ago.

However, the most fertile avenue for ending such maleficence is for a focused campaign within Iran itself, capitalizing on the ayatollahs’ incompetence, misgovernance and unpopularity.

The Islamic Republic is a time bomb waiting to implode through the accumulation of its own failures. Never has there been a better time for regional powers to light the fuse and put an end to this evil once and for all.

  29. MEMRI: Senior Hamas Officials: We Must Form Strategic Alliances With Supporters Of The Resistance And Open Up To Russia, China And Iran – In Light Of The Changing World Order, Shrinking Of American Hegemony

On June 19, 2022, a conference was held at Al-Umma University in Gaza under the title “Palestinian Sovereignty, the Strategic Variables and Future Paths.” The speakers at the conference included Hamas political bureau chief Isma’il Haniya, political bureau member Moussa Abu Marzouq and other officials.

In their speeches they addressed the changes taking place in the world and the region, with focus on the war in Ukraine. They assessed that, after this war, America is likely to lose its global hegemony, resulting in a multipolar world order.

In light of this, the Hamas officials stressed the importance of opening up to America’s rivals, Russia and China, and of forming strategic alliances with all forces that support the resistance, in order to attain the liberation of Palestine and the right of return.

They predicted that the changes taking place in the international arena, and the emergence of a multipolar world order, will have a positive impact on the Arab and Muslim world, and especially on the Palestinian issue.

The Ayatollah’s Model for the World

While Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are marketing their authoritarian rules as alternatives to a “moribund” Western democratic system, the Khomeinist mullahs in Tehran are also throwing their hat, sorry turban, into the ring as contenders for leading a new World Order.

An early version of the mullahs’ bid came almost 30 years ago when Hojat al-Islam Muhammad Khatami suggested that, by separating religion from politics, the Renaissance and Enlightenment in Europe had created a world order that fomented wars, slavery and colonialism. The way to salvation was to restore religious control on politics by granting theologians a role in the leadership…

But why should Iran emerge as the new world leader?

Alam al-Hoda’s answer is stark: Today the Islamic Republic in Iran is the only standard-bearer of true Muhammadan Islam.

Out of the 57 countries with Muslim majority populations, Iran is “the only country which has an Islamic government in the true meaning of the term”.

Other nations need not convert to Islam to benefit from the “Islamic model”. In fact some non- Muslim nations, notably Venezuela, have already done so…

  31. POSSIBLE ASSUMPTIONS USEFUL FOR GAMING THE FIRST YEAR OF THE UKRAINIAN CONFLICT

Possible Assumptions Useful for Gaming the First Year of the Ukrainian Conflict

    By Jim Rohrer

Predictions and expectations about the outcome of the war in the Ukraine have been fraught with peril. The initial invasion triggered fears of a rapid Russian victory. Plucky and effective defense by Ukrainian forces generated euphoria and heady hopes of pushing the Russian bear all the way out of Ukraine; nothing less than complete victory would be acceptable. When the war shifted toward the east and south, experts began expecting a prolonged conflict. After four months of war, we now have more information that could help develop assumptions about how the conflict will unfold by the end of its first year. Developing such assumptions is a necessary step for wargaming in real-time.

    The Timeline

After warnings from the intelligence community, Russian forces launched their attack on February 24, 2022, driving toward Kyiv and a quick victory. After one month, the drive stalled and the Russian focus shifted toward the Donbas region. By April 1, Russia had withdrawn from the Kyiv region. A new commander was appointed over the Russian forces. By mid-April, NATO countries were increasing their contributions to the Ukrainian war effort, including field artillery. A counter-offensive toward Kharkiv was launched by Russia in May and in the south Mariupol fell to the Russians May 16. A clear and stable front line formed in eastern Ukraine, with Russian attempts to break through being stymied. The United States supplied an artillery system to Ukraine with a range of 70 km. Russian forces began making gains in the east, pushing

  32. Gantz reveals ‘unusual’ Iranian military activity in the Red Sea

Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz unveiled recent satellite images showing four Iranian military ships in the Red Sea while at the Annual Economist Government Roundtable in Greece.

“Iran is expanding its aggressive operations in the region in general and in the naval arena in particular,” Gantz said, adding that it’s been “unusually” patrolling the Red Sea with its military ships.

Gantz informed the crowd that Iran has been expanding its activities in the maritime arena.

“Today, we can confirm that Iran is methodically basing itself in the Red Sea, with warships patrolling the southern region…

“The presence of Iran’s military forces in the Red Sea in recent months is the most significant in a decade… It is a direct threat to trade, energy and the global economy.”

…The Islamic Republic, which has one of the biggest missile programs in the region, possesses thousands of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, as well as long-range domestically-made missiles that they claim have a range of up to 2,000 kilometers. In February, it unveiled a new surface-to-surface missile with a range of 1,450 kilometers called the Kheibar Shekan.

Last week, Iran carried out the second test of the Zuljanah satellite launcher. Israel and the United States have repeatedly warned against Iran’s missile program, claiming that the missiles tested by Tehran are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

“This test demonstrates that the Iranian regime has the capabilities to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles that may reach as far as the center of Europe,” said Gantz. “This is in addition to operational ballistic systems and UAVs that can already reach the East Med.”

Gantz also touched on the war in Ukraine, saying that it has a “butterfly effect” on not only those who are directly involved, but on people across the world…

“As the war in Ukraine rages on, we learn that each country must be able to defend itself. Each country must plan ahead, investing in force build-up and coordinating between the strategic and operational levels,” he said, adding that “the war also reminds us that security cooperation is vital for regional and global stability – whether it’s in Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, or the Middle East.…”

    • Former NIH Chief Is Now Highest Paid Member Of Most Expensive White House Staff Ever

When Francis Collins departed as Director of the National Institutes for Health (NIH) in December 2021, his legacy included multiple-millions of dollars in secret royalty payments to himself, prominent colleagues like Dr. Anthony Fauci, and hundreds of other scientists, officials, and researchers working under him.

Today, Collins is the highest paid adviser to the president with the most expensive White House staff ever, according to data compiled by the Chicago-based non-profit government watchdog, Open The Books (OTB).

Collins is paid $300,000 annually as the Acting Science Adviser to President Joe Biden. The new salary represents a 47 percent increase over the $203,500 annual compensation Collins made as NIH Director for 12 years. All salary figures were obtained by OTB under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Earlier this year, The Epoch Times first reported that OTB uncovered more than 1,600 NIH officials, scientists, and researchers who received an estimated $350 million in secret royalty payments from sources outside the government that the agency refuses to identify.

The payments were made between 2010 and 2020, including all but a couple of years of Collins’ tenure.

“We also find that during this period, leadership at NIH was involved in receiving third-party payments. For instance, Francis Collins, the immediate past director of NIH, received 14 payments. Dr. Anthony Fauci received 23 payments, and his deputy, Clifford Lane, received eight payments,” OTB President Adam Andrzejewski told The Epoch Times.

Collins’ successor as NIH Director, Dr. Lawrence Tabak, admitted to Congress in May that the secret royalty payments have “the appearance of a conflict of interest,” but he claimed the agency has sufficient internal safeguards to prevent abuse.

Federal personnel law and regulations bar government employees from having either actual conflicts of interest or the appearance of conflicts in their decision-making as public servants.

As was his departure from NIH, Collins’ move to the White House was accompanied by controversy. Normally, the president’s Chief Science Adviser is also Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

But when Biden announced Collins’ appointment in February, the chief executive also announced that he was promoting then-OSTP Deputy Director Alondra Nelson to head the office, thus effectively installing two individuals in what had previously been a single position.

Both positions—Science Adviser to the President and OSTP Director—were previously filled by Eric Lander, who resigned after it was reported he bullied staff members under his supervision.

Technically, Collins is a detailee to the White House, as are the second- and third-highest paid White House advisers. Those include Luisa Paiewonsky, Senior Policy Adviser for Transportation at $191,300, and Stephanie Sykes, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for Infrastructure Implementation at $183,100. Detailee salaries are included in the White House report to Congress on its employment costs.

The data on the White House salaries was also made public by OTB in a report on July 1.

There are 23 regular White House employees with the title of Assistant to the President, all paid $180,000 annually, including White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain. The average White House salary is $98,649, with both detailees and regular employees included in the calculation.

In his first year in the Oval Office in 2021, Biden’s White House staff included 560 individuals at a cost of $49.6 million, the highest ever reported since 1995 when such data was first reported.

President Donald Trump spent $39.5 million on 377 White House staffers in his first year in office, while President Barack Obama hired 487 White House staff members in his first year at a cost of $49.4 million. The Trump and Obama figures are adjusted for inflation, according to OTB.

Biden’s White House staff total is almost certain to be lower at the end of 2022 than it was in 2021, because of the exodus of more than 80 individuals in recent months. Even so, OTB projects that the Biden White House staff costs will continue to be the highest ever.

American Thinker -Follow the COVID Money

If the COVID-19 vaccines have been a disappointment from a public health standpoint in stopping the continuing spread of new variants of the disease, why is Big Pharma as well as its government allies in the FDA, CDC, and NIH still pushing them?

As Deep Throat whispered to Bob Woodward during the Watergate scandal (“Follow the money”), so, too, the American public should be demanding the same of its political leaders: Follow the COVID money to determine why we continue to spend a fortune on something that seems to have only a relatively limited benefit.

But our elected officials are embarrassingly quiet on answering the basic question of who exactly is benefiting from the constant rounds of shots being foisted on or recommended to the American public?

Maybe the silence comes from the fact that the pharmaceutical industry spends more on lobbying than any other industry group. In 2020 big pharma spent over $300 million lobbying officeholders and government officials. It clearly pays off. The research to develop the COVID-19 vaccines was nearly all funded by taxpayers. The distribution of the vaccines, once developed, was further funded nearly entirely by taxpayers. The record-keeping and reporting on the vaccines is also at the expense of taxpayers, and the new repurposed Pfizer drug Paxlovid, used to treat COVID, has been paid for by taxpayers.

If the vaccinations are proving to be ineffective in stopping the march of the disease, are they really worth what the federal government is paying the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture, distribute, and administer them? Is the public being played for suckers by a cabal of industry giants and their friends in the medical bureaucracies?

Just consider a few facts. The pharmaceutical industry is said to spend $5.2 billion annually on television advertising aimed primarily at the consumer. It poured another $9.53 billion into digital advertising aimed at consumers and industry in 2020.

This total of nearly $15 billion spent by Big Pharma on advertising is more than twice what is spent on new cancer drug research. In fact, nine out of 10 of the largest pharmaceutical companies in America spend more on advertising than on research and development.

But there is more. The U.S. government is pushing COVID-19 jabs harder than the companies would ever likely choose to do on their own. This might be the reason: Almost half of the funding that supports the U.S. Food and Drug Administration comes from the very industries it is mandated to oversee.

CDC funding is similar. But it also receives large grants for COVID research from the Bloomberg Family Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

By contrast, money given by the private sector to the NIH is mostly hidden from the public. More troubling is the fact that the NIH allows its publicly-employed researchers to receive royalty payments from government-funded activities that result in private company income. Present and former NIH researchers received annual royalty payments averaging $9,700 in addition to their taxpayer-funded, biweekly paychecks. Some have been reported to receive as much as $150,000 in annual royalty rewards!

With the government pouring huge amounts of money on the pharmaceutical houses to develop an anti-COVID vaccine, no wonder information about all of the early treatment protocols developed by private-sector doctors working on their own was suppressed by the CDC and shunned by the FDA. Even more depressing was the fact that the media went along with this suppression of free speech and information. Social media companies, for their part, routinely banned and deplatformed any physician speaking contrary to the federal government’s accepted bureaucratic narrative. Why? Do you think the big social media companies might also have profited from the direct-to-consumer advertising of the government-funded products in the same way as traditional media? Do you know a lot of cases where the hand that feeds it is bitten?

This isn’t speculation, it’s big money. Consider: Pfizer expects $32 billion in COVID vaccine sales in 2022. Moderna is forecasting $19 billion in COVID sales with the vaccine being its only current commercial product. Moderna had never produced a vaccine before it developed its COVID shots. Pfizer, BioNTech, and Moderna are reported to be making $1,000 in profit every second of every business day

Big pharmacy chains are also participating in this government largess as well. The big chains earn “…roughly $40 per shot” from the federal government. Since the government provides the pharmacy chains with the vaccines and Paxlovid for free, almost all their charge for administering the shots or dispensing the drug is profit.

There have been at least nine new billionaires created in the vaccine world as a result of COVID-19. No one has counted the new millionaires in COVID-19’s wake. Is there any wonder that the Pfizer CEO would offer the thought that an annual COVID-19 vaccine booster is almost a certainty? And so would his annual multiple million-dollar bonuses for bringing in this kind of business.

But we can reverse all this. A congressional investigation must be launched to shine light on what this crony capitalism is doing to American taxpayers and their health system. Get in touch with your senators and demand that they authorize an investigation of how COVID-19 money has been spent by both the Trump and the Biden administrations.

We need to put some sanity back into how our medical resources are being spent.

  34. Taliban emir ‘promises’ Afghanistan won’t be a base for terrorism
    BY BILL ROGGIO | July 7, 2022 | ad***@lo************.org | @billroggio
The Taliban’s supreme leader once again ‘promised’ that the group will not allow Afghanistan to be used as a launchpad for attacks against the world. The Taliban has made this false statement for decades, even prior to 9/11.

Taliban emir Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada made the statement in his annual Eid ul Adha message, which was publishing in English on July 6.

“We assure our neighbors, the region and the world that we will not allow anyone to use our territory to threaten the security of other countries,” Mullah Haibitullah said. “We also want other countries not to interfere in our internal affairs.”

  35. WAR HAS CONSEQUENCES: 20-YEAR SCARS OF THE SECOND INTIFADA

    Book Excerpt

20 years ago, on the first night of Passover 2002, the most infamous suicide bombing in Israel took place. That night, and the weeks that followed, marked a dramatic turning point in the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians which still dictates the contours of the conflict today. Options for a political settlement that might have existed before, disappeared into a new reality.

In March 2002 alone, more than 100 Israelis were killed in suicide bombings; hundreds more were injured. Sitting at a cafe, riding a bus, walking through an outdoor market became imbued with a feeling of danger. When Israel responded, protests against Israel erupted in all the major Western capitals, though there were few, if any, protests against the Palestinian suicide bombings. The European Parliament passed a non-binding resolution calling for sanctions against Israel. International media coverage of the operation was overwhelmingly negative.

The 1993 Oslo Accords were pitched to Israelis with a promise that they would improve security. And if that first promise remained unfulfilled – even after Israel recognized the PLO and carried out the withdrawals from Gaza and the West Bank as called for in the Agreements – then the whole world would see who the bad guys really were and stand by Israel.

Neither promise was realized and this left deep scars on the Israeli psyche. An enormous skepticism emerged about peace with the Palestinians. Moreover, the broad center of Israeli politics no longer is moved by expectations of global support.

The Maricopa County Republican Committee’s resolution to formally reject the certification of the Stolen 2020 Presidential Election is set for a vote tonight by the MCRC Executive Governance Committee, which includes all Maricopa Legislative District Chairmen.

Similar resolutions have been introduced in Wisconsin and Texas. Maricopa County Member at Large Brian Ference told The Gateway Pundit that other organizations nationwide can use the resolution template to reject their own results. They can copy Maricopa County’s resolution and customize it to represent their stolen election
