Reader’s Links for July 6th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Let this epoch be characterized by a “…dangerous level of idiocy…”, as Chris Martenson describes in his segment below.

Sustainable idiocy is not a sustainable social policy, but at least I am able to use a word I strongly dislike twice in one sentence. “How to Ruin Words”, by Reilly Progressive. –Should be a book title so I write it this way. I’m not sure if this would be a very thick book, or a very skinny one. (Earnest Hemmingway, talented leftist arsehole that he was, rightly said if you can’t say what you want in a relatively short number of pages then you don’t know how to say it.) I was going to try to list words that have been ruined, such as “gay”, but won’t bother. We know them when we see them.

A fish rots from the head, say the Russians, who should know. I have not really liked the expression “woke”. It is clunky. Over the last year it knocked rather politely on our doors but didn’t ring right. Then it booted the door in–hard to ignore a group of letters behaving like pack dogs or a petulant little tyrant just so they can enter the dang lexicon. What is it about four-letter words? There should be a law against certain letters fraternizing. If we banned the word “N-A-Z-I” would this political menace disappear? No, it would just change letters, then would go on to sulk even more violently and repulsively in bitter revenge. Four-letter word status is special. Woke comes from the top. Top, rot, top, rot. Toprot. Playing with words is so much fun you can die doing it, or at least end up in prison. Ask Tamara Lich or Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

A law controlling how letters assemble isn’t something conservative types bother doing. They believe all letters should be allowed to gather and connect however they wish because, to hijack a phrase, all words matter. If “XZGD” want to hang out together, who cares? Let the free market of words sort it out. Together these guys are still less than spit.

Dear Leader is passing laws to control the free assembly of letters because they scare him. He governs the alphabet in Canada with a velvet–some would say “gay” glove. What I mean by this is he has a virtual patent on the tone of voice that conveys hollow, feminized, male, empathy.

Our power brokers here in the West must be woke before they can assume the position, so to speak. This is their ticket to our demise. The East, while garbed fashionably in its own brands of collectivist idiocy, doesn’t care much for our particular demented brand, which currently gives it the advantage of being able to think with a clarity that enables it to use the word “transition” without making it stink like it’s been dragged through a pile of other ruined words. In other words (a pun intended?), this particular Hegelian progeny is surely understood by the easterners, yet remains a vulgar manifestation best left for, effectively, suicide theater. Putin and Xi munch popcorn and watch as woke capitalism and western foreign policy self-immolate.

My mother told me never to use the four-letter word “hate”. “Use strongly dislike instead,” she said. Save it for when it really mattered because it is too ugly to overuse. What she didn’t say was that an overused word also loses power. I said I wouldn’t list tainted words, but it’s hard not to when the que becomes so long.

Collectivist regimes create gulags for people who arrange letters and words into sequences they consider threatening. Nowadays they label as “hateful” speech most anything and anyone who adheres to the free-letter marketplace. It’s always only a matter of time before the syllables begin to see each other, hold hands, go kinetic and bust out. Like rap music it’s really ugly, but when it works it really works. Excited, motivated syllables don’t just stand around kicking dirt in the gulag courtyard. They have lots of energy and start swinging wildly, displaying real power in the face of the regime that lost its own by using the same tired words so many times they just turned into noise.

      — MSP – Uruguay (@MSPUruguay) July 6, 2022

    • the telegraph UK – Excess deaths are on the rise – but not because of Covid

Office for National Statistics data leads health experts to call for urgent investigation into what is causing the excess mortality

Hundreds more people than usual are dying each week in England and Wales with Covid not to blame for the majority of deaths, /ew figures show.

Latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show there were 1,540 excess deaths in the week ending June 24 but only around 10 per cent were due to coronavirus.

Health experts have called for an urgent investigation into what is behind the excess mortality, with fears that the pandemic response, lack of access to healthcare and even the cost of living crisis, may be to blame.

Before the end of March, deaths in England and Wales were lower than usual this year despite hundreds of people dying from Covid. Yet in the last three months, the situation has reversed, with overall deaths rising even though Covid deaths have been falling.

‘The reality is going to be quite complex’

Prof Paul Hunter, professor in medicine, at the University of East Anglia, said some of the excess could be people whose health was weakened by Covid. The infection is known to increase the risk of stroke and heart attacks. But he warned that there may be other more complex factors at play.

“Some might also be down to other impacts of the pandemic, such as problems in accessing health care, delayed referrals for treatment and then things related to the restrictions we lived under, such as reduced activity and sedentary lives,” he said.

“I think the reality is going to be quite complex but it’s something we do need to be aware of and actually try and understand.

“We know there is a relationship between excess deaths and deprivation so maybe the current financial situation we are in is exacerbating that.

“There is despair from your livelihood disappearing up the swanny. It doesn’t have to lead to suicide, chronic stress can lead to all sorts of problems.”

Dr Charles Levinson, the chief executive of the private GP company DoctorCall, also called for a government inquiry into what was causing so many deaths at home.

The ONS reported 752 excess deaths in the home in the latest week, 30 per cent more than usual, and more than hospitals and care homes put together.

“This is exactly why a proper government investigation is required,” he said. “This is not just displacement from hospitals… I do not understand how this is not being properly discussed.”

Dr Levinson added: “The reasons behind these horrific numbers are complicated and none of us fully understand them, so that is exactly why there should be an urgent and comprehensive Government inquiry.

“If anything, the situation seems to be worsening. Considering the relentless focus on one virus for more than two years, requesting answers from Government on thousands and thousands of non-Covid excess deaths is entirely reasonable.”

“With what we know today: yes. With what we knew then: no, was the answer,” Brostrom answered.

Even the head of the Danish health authority admitted that vaccinating the children was a mistake.

“In hindsight, we did not get much out of vaccinating the children,” he responded.

“I want to look all parents of children who have vaccinated their child in the eye and say, ‘You did the right thing, and thank you for listening,’” Brostrom said.

“But at the same time… and this is the important thing to maintain confidence… I will admit and say that we have become wiser and we would not do the same today. And we will not do that in the future either,” he added.

Kentucky’s State Supreme Court Blocks AG’s Request To Reinstate Near-Total Abortion Ban
    By Michael Robison
    Published July 6, 2022 at 9:30am

On Tuesday, the Kentucky Supreme Court denied the state attorney general’s emergency appeal to have a near-total abortion ban blocked by a circuit court judge reinstated.

Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade triggered a Kentucky law, the Human Life Protection Act, that bans all abortions aside from those performed to save the mother’s life or prevent her serious injury.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit on behalf of state abortion providers last week alleging the law unconstitutionally forces women to “remain pregnant against their will.”

Richard: The reason the left took the abortion issue to the Federal Courts was their failure to get the state legislatures to write laws legalizing abortion. Now that honest Justices have said that the US Constitution doesn’t protect abortion the issue is once again being argued in the states. It is starting to look like the State Legislatures are going to refuse to legalize Child Sacrifice while activist State Judges are going to support Child Sacrifice.

The actions of the left show that they don’t believe in democracy and the rule of law. This issue has brought the leftist activists to the street where they are vandalizing the buildings of pro life groups. Given the way they are acting it won’t take many losses in the state legislatures before they start using fire and explosive bombs

  14. Under Biden, U.S. Pushed Further Back in Latin America
    by Judith Bergman

China has overtaken the United States in trade terms “in large swathes of Latin America,” according to a recent Reuters analysis of UN trade data from 2015-2021. Reuters added that “outside of Mexico, the top U.S. trade partner, China has overtaken the United States in Latin America and widened the gap last year.”

Although US President Joe Biden pledged to give Latin America higher priority, “current and former officials told Reuters that the United States had been slow to take concrete action and that China, a major buyer of grains and metals, simply offered more to the region in terms of trade and investment.”

  18. Iconic Norman Rockwell works of art are taken off the White House walls

The Thomas Crown affair this is not. But priceless pieces of art have been removed from the White House and it’s not yet abundantly clear why.

Four NORMAN ROCKWELL panels of watercolor and black-and-white sketches featuring the White House — which have been displayed in the building since 1978 — have been taken off the walls.

Much of the “So You Want to See the President” series shows various Americans, such as top military officers and senators, waiting in the White House for time with the president. The titles of the sketches are “Gentleman of the Press,” “Beauty and Publicity Man,” “The Press Get a News Flash” and “A Hero is Interviewed.” Objects like the “President’s gas mask,” “the President’s lunch,” and “the Visitors’ Hatrack” are also depicted in the sketches

    • I’m not fond of Norman Rockwell either.

Morgan says this is not going to turn out like the globalists want. Morgan says, “This is not about money–it’s about control. They want absolute control.”

  23. Russia criticises ‘unilateral leak’ of Putin-Macron call

Russian foreign minister says the release of the phone conversation between the two leaders breaches ‘diplomatic etiquette’.

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, has criticised France for the publication of a call between the presidents of the two countries that took place days before the start of the war in Ukraine.

Broadcaster France 2 released in a documentary that aired last week the details of the confidential call on February 20 between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

In the exchange, which finds Putin preparing for an ice hockey game, the Russian leader describes the 2014 Maidan protests that brought pro-Western leaders to power in Ukraine as a “bloody coup”. He also accuses Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of refusing to engage in dialogue with pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine’s east.

“People were burned alive, it was a bloodbath,” Putin says, claiming that Zelenskyy is lying to Macron.

At one point, Macron is visibly irritated and tells Putin in a slightly raised voice: “I don’t know where your lawyer learned law,” as he criticises Russian views.

Despite the differences, Putin in principle agrees to a meeting with United States President Joe Biden in Geneva, which never materialised as Russia sent its troops into Ukraine four days later.

Commenting on the broadcasting of the conversation, Lavrov said on Wednesday “diplomatic etiquette does not provide for unilateral leaks of [such] recordings”.

He added that that Russia has nothing to be ashamed of.

“We, in principle, lead negotiations in such a way that we never have anything to be ashamed of. We always say what we think and are ready to answer for these words and explain our position,” he said during a trip to Vietnam.

The documentary also offers scenes rarely seen in public, including Macron holding a meeting in his bunker under the Elysee palace and working with his team in the presidential plane.

It also highlights European leaders’ coordination to support Ukraine and impose unprecedented sanctions on Russia and follows Macron with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi in a train on their way to Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, in June, where they pledged arms and backed Ukraine’s candidacy to join the European Union.
