Reader’s links for July 3rd, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

The Soviets cooked up a slew of rituals and holidays because people craved something. May Day is, as Eeyore says, commie Christmas. Commemorations of the Great Patriotic War serve up saints and devils. A synthetic religion that still resonates, both ways.

This weekend two more Arizona State Legislators who played a role in investigating Arizona’s Stolen 2020 Election have been subpoenaed by Liz Cheney’s sham January 6th Committee.

This is an attack on Americans who want free and fair elections.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Arizona State Representative Mark Finchem, a key fighter for election integrity in Arizona, received a subpoena from Liz Cheney and her goons — after spearheading the Arizona audit, which discovered hundreds of thousands of illegal votes in the 2020 election.

  6. bloomberg – Ukraine to Unveil Massive Rebuilding Plan Even as War Bogs Down

(Bloomberg) — Ukraine plans to put forward a blueprint this week for rebuilding the country that could mobilize hundreds of billions of euros, even as the nation grapples with a Russian invasion that’s destroyed cities, shredded the economy and displaced millions.

The plan, around 2,000 pages, will be introduced at a July 4-5 conference in the Swiss city of Lugano, according to people familiar with the outline.

It will map out a broad list of infrastructure and security projects, investments in climate and the digital economy as well as diversification of energy resources.

European Union officials have said the 27-member bloc, which last month formally admitted Ukraine as a candidate, will contribute the bulk of overall financial assistance, a volume that could surpass 500 billion euros ($523 billion). The Ukrainian government thrashed out the draft with donors, including the EU, who will provide feedback over the coming months, the people said on condition of anonymity because the discussions were not public.

The European Commission, the bloc’s executive arm, is exploring financing options that include grants and loans, though details are scarce and officials are reticent to put forward estimates while the war is raging. One possibility is joint borrowing on the markets similar to the vehicle for raising funds for the EU’s pandemic recovery fund.

    No End in Sight

Any postwar plan has a long horizon as Ukrainian and Russian forces have been bogged down in fighting in the eastern Donbas region, which has become the top priority for military planners under President Vladimir Putin. Even as the Kremlin made gains in the past few weeks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly vowed that he’ll never accept ceding territory.

At a press conference in Kiev on Friday, Zelensky referred to the Lugano plan as a “first draft,” since the scale of the effort will be “difficult.”

The sums involved in any rebuilding also highlight Ukraine’s acute financial pain, as policy makers in Kiev struggle to keep the budget running as revenue dries up and reliance on global donors increases. Ukrainian officials are exploring the possibility of debt restructuring as the country’s financing options reach their limit.

A plan of such scale will also come under scrutiny of EU governments skeptical about adding debt. Emergency assistance for Kiev has already been held up in EU institutions by disagreements between EU officials and Germany over details of the package.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will attend the Lugano conference to present an EU-based platform for global donors, including Group of Seven partners, multilateral organizations, Switzerland and Norway, according to the people. The EU will aim to coordinate the global effort, with open channels for varying financial instruments used by the US and the World Bank.

Von der Leyen’s team is working on a concept paper as the basis for discussions in the bloc before any proposal is finalized, the people said. After the summer, the Commission and Germany as the G-7 chair will convene a conference to move the plan forward. The Czech government, which holds the EU’s six-month rotating presidency, plans to organize a donor conference in November.

    Strings Attached

For the EU, any aid must also be linked to reforms. Ukraine’s EU candidacy status came with a road map to fight corruption, break control of oligarchs over the economy and make rules to select judges. Ukraine ranks 122nd out of 180 countries on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index.

Von der Leyen told the Ukrainian parliament on Friday that the country needs to select “the right people” for its anti-corruption bodies as soon as possible, implement anti-oligarch legislation and move forward a new media law.

“No one expects Ukraine to fill in all posts in your new institutions while so many of your best and brightest are fighting on the front,” von der Leyen told the Ukrainian lawmakers. “But Ukraine’s democracy must be kept on the right track.”

    • the conservative tree house – Sunday Talks – Olaf Scholz Discusses Ukraine and His Conversations with Russian President Putin

If you look beyond the condescending, sanctimonious and unintelligent questioning and pantomime from CBS News Margaret Brennan, there are some very interesting aspects outlined by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. [Transcript Here] I was looking for how CBS would inject the pending global food shortage into the interview, and what narrative angle they would use. The coordinated media political talking point, ‘Russia starving the world‘, comes up in the last third of the interview.

Germany is the largest and most heavily industrialized economy in the European Union (EU). As a result, Germany makes most of the decisions about how the EU operates. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel always played the role of supporting NATO; however, her approach to government was one of the most closed, controlling and nationalist hypocrisies within the European Union. If it was in Germany’s interest it was done. If it was not directly beneficial to Germany, it was never done.

Merkel’s replacement, Olaf Scholz, is not that different from his predecessor in regard to the economics of nationalism, the predominant view for any German leader. However, Scholz is more of a collaborator, an outward looking Chancellor; seemingly more globally and communally minded than Merkel. Scholz is more accepting of Biden (USA) influence than Angela Merkel was. Scholz is also spending more on German military than Merkel would ever consider.

In this interview, Scholz outlines the conflict in Ukraine while overlaying his perspective of Russian President Vladimir Putin as an outcome of their discussions.

When you watch Ukrainian officials lovingly interviewed by CNN or BBC, they often have photos of national hero Stepan Bandera on their wall.

      He’s a Nazi collaborator who mass-murdered Jews and Poles…

That Bandera, Ukraine’s national hero, is a mass-murdering Nazi is affirmed by virtually every country – except Ukraine.

After this shocking interview aired, Israel vehemently condemned the Ukrainian Ambassador…

Western propaganda on the Russian invasion of Ukraine has been unlike anything I’ve seen. Not even 2002/3 compares. The EU pressure on all platforms to ban all Russian voices is greater, more chilling, than is known. This is who is being flooded with very sophisticated weapons.

After Israel and Germany condemned the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany for his deranged defense of the Nazi collaborator and mass-murderer Stepan Bandera, a national hero in Ukraine — see the above video — Poland has now done the same…

  8. Cyber Insecurity: Give Deterrence a Break

    by Thomas R. Johansmeyer

It’s time to give deterrence a break. We’ve made the concept carry us through the Cold War and another thirty years after that in the face of bipolar nuclear threats. After almost 80 years, we’ve seen what deterrence can do – and what it can’t. Despite the salient effort to make deterrence work for cyber, it’s clear that we’re faced with a “square peg/round hole” problem. Deterrence doesn’t fit for cyber, and no amount of forcing will change it.

The simplest reason why deterrence is destined to relative irrelevance in the cyber domain of warfare is really one of degree. Nuclear war is largely believed to be a no-win endeavor, whether you ask the White House or WOPR. Cyber, on the other hand, lacks the same effect, except perhaps in the domain of science fiction. There may be some conceivable scenarios in which cyber operations contribute to a no-win result, but that likely involves cyber as a conduit to a form of kinetic warfare with greater impact (such as nukes). Instead of thinking about cyber as a physical risk to be deterred, it may make more sense to contemplate it as an economic threat to be managed – significant, but

COPENHAGEN, July 3 (Reuters) – Danish police said several people had been hit by gunshots and one person had been arrested at a shopping centre in the capital Copenhagen on Sunday.

Copenhagen police tweeted that officers had been sent to the Field’s mall after reports of a shooting, and asked people to send footage and other relevant details from the scene.

Local media published images showing heavily armed police officers at the scene, as well as people running out of the mall.

The police did not provide further information about the arrest, or say how many had been injured. They advised people inside the centre to stay put and await police assistance, and asked other people to stay away from the area.

British singer Harry Styles was due to perform later in the evening, at 8 p.m. (1800 GMT), at a concert venue less than a mile from the mall.

The concert will go ahead as scheduled after close dialogue with the police, and half of the audience has already entered the venue, the concert promoter Live Nation said in an emailed comment to Reuters.

  17. Roe Woe: Manchin and Collins Violate Their Oaths by Stressing Un-American Stare Decisis
    Selwyn Duke
In the wake of Roe being aborted, some liberal politicians, such as senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), are crying foul because they claim that SCOTUS justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch deceived them

for precedent) during confirmation hearings. What’s unsaid is that stare decisis is itself a deception. In fact, our Founders would be aghast at the standard. Why? It’s simple:

If a precedent clearly conforms to the Constitution, then regard for stare decisis is unnecessary for a precedent-aligned ruling; all a justice need do is reference the Constitution and he’ll vote incidentally in accordance with the precedent.

If the precedent doesn’t conform to the Constitution, it is then illegal and should be overturned, which a justice will vote to do if he, again, references the Constitution.

In other words, exalting stare decisis serves no legitimate purpose. The people doing so are generally individuals who dislike the Constitution’s dictates, but know they could never amend the document (get the people’s consent) in accordance with their wishes. So they instead uphold this notion that convenient “precedent” — i.e., the will of a handful of judges — should supersede the supreme law of the land, the Constitution. It’s no wonder Justice Clarence Thomas stated last month, “I always say that when someone uses stare decisis, that means they’re out of arguments.”

But here’s what hasn’t been said: In complaining they were deceived by Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, Manchin and Collins are in glass houses with millimeter-thick walls.

For they are violating their oaths.

Upon assuming office, the senators took an oath to uphold the Constitution.

They did not take an oath to uphold precedent.

Yet when they make adherence to stare decisis a prerequisite for SCOTUS confirmation, they’re seeking to ensure that their chosen justices will place precedent before the Constitution. They are thus violating their oath of office by proxy.

(And, of course, our politicians routinely violate their oaths directly by supporting unconstitutional legislation.)

In reality, consulting precedent is only necessary for a judge if he’s sincerely unsure of what a constitutional provision dictates in a given case and wishes to benefit from past wisdom; in such an event, however, precedent is merely part of historical analysis and study, not a constraining stricture.

As for the near deification of precedent called stare decisis, it actually is a con (and some of its proponents are no doubt conning themselves; i.e., rationalizing). We’ll hear that Roe was unassailable “precedent” because it had been in place for 49 years, even though not having Roe and leaving abortion to the states was precedent for the better part of 200 years before then. What’s more, Plessy v. Ferguson (separate but equal opinion) was “precedent” for 58 years until Brown v. Board of Education. Should it have been respected and kept in place, senators Manchin and Collins?

It’s all the more laughable when considered thus: We can have a precedent such as marriage being a state matter for more than 200 years. Then, five long-in-the-tooth, black-robed lawyer zealots get caught up in sexual fashions, get into their heads that they should impose some perceived good, and completely violate this standard (i.e., Obergefell v. Hodges, 2015). And we’re supposed to respect their newly minted precedent over what preceded it…why?

The truth is that the Court has reversed its own precedents 145 times. So whence comes this regard for stare decisis?

Well, the Left wouldn’t have valued precedent ages ago because, with court rulings having been more “traditionalist,” it wouldn’t have served their ends. Now, after years of judicial activism having delivered an arsenal of decisions facilitating their agenda, we hear, “Oh, no! You can’t touch these judicial opinions. Stare decisis today, stare decisis tomorrow, stare decisis forever!” Yeah? Tell it to the judge.

In the final analysis, liberal senators will sanctimoniously give SCOTUS nominees the third degree about whether they as justices would uphold stare decisis, as if it’s some sacred legal principle. But the onus belongs on them. They’re demanding that judges become proxies for their constitutional trespass. This is shameful, and it alone should disqualify them from office.

Of course, politicians also like judicial activism on hot-button issues because they can then wash their hands of the matter and say “That’s it — the courts have ruled!” These politicians consequently won’t have to take a stand on the controversial issues and risk increased election-time voter ire.

But with Roe no mo‘, Manchin now may end up with a bill banning abortion on his desk. He’ll then have to sign it and incur the wrath of the Party of Death (formerly the Democrats), or veto it and explain to West Virginians why he’s governing like a Californian. But, hey, maybe he can just point to precedent — there have been, after all, plenty of phony politicians before him.

    • This explain it? Comment from a farrr-rrright Zionist site where it popped up:

“That was a concert in Minneapolis (New Mogadishu), for a Somali singer. Guarantee the crowd was entirely somalian. I doubt they’re booing her because she’s a leftist, commie… My guess is because she’s dating a white man like a whoore.[sic]”
