Reader’s Links for June 16th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Dr. Zelenko’s been very sick, suffering all this time.
G-d’s been gracious to us, a precious gift on borrowed time.

      • Hear hear, I loved his straight forward attitude, his non flowery language.
        Hope you are well?!!

  1. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said from Orlando in the United States that he feared he might end up like former Bolivia’s Jeanine Áñez when he leaves office.

After having promised US President Joseph Biden that he would accept the outcome of this year’s elections, which opposition candidate Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva is poised to win according to all polls, Bolsonaro’s statements this weekend mean first and foremost that the idea of being defeated had sunk into his mind.

Áñez’s “party lost; Evo Morales’ party is back. What happened a year ago? She was preventively arrested. And now ten years in jail have been confirmed for her. What are the charges? Anti-democratic acts. Do you see the relationship with Alexandre de Moraes and the investigations for anti-democratic acts? Is he a threat to me when I leave the government?” Bolsonaro wondered in an interview with journalists outside a restaurant in Orlando, where he participated in a motorcycle caravan with his supporters.

Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes is leading an investigation against Bolsonaro “for allegedly spreading falsehoods about the integrity of Brazil’s electronic voting system and engaging in anti-democratic acts.”

In the interview, Bolsonaro also called STF Justice Luís Roberto Barroso a “liar.” Barroso had pointed out that Bolsonaro had revealed data from a confidential investigation. The head of state claims that as President he was not bound by any restrictions.

  2. A rare U.S. military ground raid in northwestern Syria has captured a top ISIS leader, according to the U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition.

A U.S. defense official said there were no injuries to U.S. military personnel and no damage to aircraft involved in the raid.

“Coalition forces detained a senior Daesh leader during an operation in Syria June 16,” Operation Inherent Resolve said in a statement. “The detained individual was assessed to be an experienced bomb maker and facilitator who became one of the group’s top leaders in Syria.”

  4. Yesterday the Fed increased its intertest rate, aka the price of fiat, by .75%. This increase was sufficiently telegraphed by the Fed, so it was largely priced in by the markets. This attempt to wrestle inflation to its 2% ground is folly, according to most every Austrian pundit I have heard. Real rates must meet and exceed the inflation rate in order to be effective. Such was proven by Volker in the early ’80s. Gold and silver held their own very well yesterday during this rise, signaling their understanding of the necessity for real rate increases and not cosmetic, political ones. It is expected that the public’s pain tolerance will soon be surpassed because of the Biden admin’s disastrous economic policies. This late and weak effort by this admin. to tame the inflation genie will be met by political pitchforks, forcing it to pivot on this effort and return to money printing. The wave of corporate and personal bankruptcies, poverty, and supply-chain disfunction created by the woke cabal in Washington will then have created the environment for something resembling hyperinflation, which is deflation with a wheelbarrow. America’s northern neighbor, the freshly-minted Communist Republic of Dystopia, will follow suit given that 75% of its trade is with the U.S.A. Here is this morning’s report from London on yesterday’s Fed action. About 30 min:

    • Bill Holter is a plain-spoken speaker of common-sense truth. He describes the financial mechanics of the intentional destruction of all western economies. I highly recommend the above USA Watchdog interview.

    • …At the same time, he said that the deteriorating relations are not because of opposition disinformation, but because “the Hungarians have not clearly explained their own position,” and that “Hungarian interests come first” is not enough to win over Polish or European public opinion, and that the statements in Budapest were perceived as a lack of empathy for the Ukrainians, as were the “bickering” remarks against the Ukrainian president…
      ………..
Till now Poland hasn’t worried all that much about “winning over… European public opinion”.
      Solidarity, eh?

Of course Poland doesn’t have to explain it’s proprietary interest in northwest Ukraine. Or it’s eternal hatred of everything that smells like Bear. Which doesn’t make Russian-Ukes east and south of the Dnieper feel all that embraced.

Belarus might worry about an expansionist neo-Polish Empire. That is, if the people there weren’t suffering the Great Terror of the 1930s again. Poor things.

      • I remember the blind hatred Hungarians had for Russians. I was raised with it. But then things changed, and while I’ve not forgotten how and why I hated the Soviets, I know the world has evolved, and blind hatred of Russians does not necessarily serve the Magyars, or anyone. And there appears to be no salvation looking west. Orban sees this and looks ahead to the new world economic order, hedging his bets while trying not to get mired in the muck next door. There’s little benefit in staying stuck in the old cold war.

    • sky news UK – Ukraine artillery outnumbered 20:1 by Russia in some areas

Jens Stoltenberg has praised “unprecedented” support for Ukraine in a press conference almost four months into the war.

The statement came as figures revealed that Russian artillery outnumber Ukrainian forces “20:1 in some areas,” but went on to say that allies have sent Ukraine long-range weapons that could win them the war.

The latest boost of aid will include major weapons systems that the Ukrainian government has repeatedly appealed for.

The US will also send an additional $225 million in humanitarian aid to provide assistance for drinking water, food, shelter and other essential items.

The announcement came as US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin kicked off a meeting in Brussels with over 45 countries to discuss further support for Ukraine.

    • L’IMMONDE – Emmanuel Macron plays catch-up on his visit to Kiev

The French president arrived Thursday morning in the Ukrainian capital, accompanied by the German and Italian leaders Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi. They will be rolling out new promises of support for Ukraine, in an attempt to deflect attention from their long-overdue visit to the country.

“It’s a message of European unity and support, addressed to all Ukrainians,” said Emmanuel Macron as he got off the train in the station in Kyiv, on Thursday, June 16 at 9:30 am. Mr. Macron had just travelled for 10 hours with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, after meeting them the night before on the Polish border.

As soon as they boarded the train, the three men held an almost two-hour meeting in the French president’s private carriage, in a very “Orient Express” atmosphere. They wanted to mark the moment and prepare their long-awaited and rapid visit – so rapid, in fact, that it’s almost being done with a stopwatch in hand.

The leaders will spend the day in the Ukrainian capital, in order to finally show their solidarity with a country that has been resisting Russia’s invasion for almost four months. Waiting for them on the platform, surrounded by soldiers, was Olga Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Since the weekend, the visit has been the subject of a thousand unconfirmed rumors. It will first of all make up for a few missed opportunities on all sides. For weeks, Ukrainian officials have been urging Mr. Macron to make the trip before the end of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union on June 30. But he was stalling, officially for electoral reasons, but also because he wanted to seem “useful” on a trip with such strong symbolic value.

As for Chancellor Scholz, he delayed making the trip because of ongoing tensions between Berlin and Kyiv. As a result, since the beginning of the conflict, many of their European counterparts visited the Ukrainian capital before they did, including Britain’s Boris Johnson, Poland’s Andrzej Duda and the heads of the European Union institutions. It meant that it would have been difficult for each of them to come alone, so late in the day.

      Representing ‘old Europe’

On arrival, the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who came by another route, joined his counterparts in Kyiv, adding a touch of Central Europe to the trio from “old Europe.” They first visited Irpin in the Kyiv suburbs, where the Russian army committed atrocities against civilians, before retreating after failing to capture the capital in late March. President Volodymyr Zelensky will join them for a tribute to the victims of the conflict. Later in the day, Emmanuel Macron will meet with French officials sent to Kyiv to investigate possible war crimes perpetrated by the Russian army.

reuters – French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that all four European Union leaders present in Kyiv supported the idea of granting an “immediate” EU candidate status to Ukraine.

Macron made the comments at a news conference after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

“We all four support the immediate EU candidate status,” said Macron.

He added that France would step up arms deliveries to the country at war with Russia.

    • Gazprom ready to start gas supplies via Nord Stream 2 today

The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is under pressure and gas can be supplied through it even now, Alexei Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, said on June 16, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Miller also commented on rising gas prices. “Many thanks” for this should be said to foreign regulators, in particular European ones, he said. “We have witnessed ultra-high volatility in commodity markets and very high inflation. But it all started not yesterday, not today,” Miller said. In his opinion, sanctions and counter-sanctions had an impact on the global energy market.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was built to double the capacity to pump gas from Russia to Europe. Officially, the construction work of the project was completed in the fall of 2021. The total length of the pipeline is 1230 km. After the start of the Russian special operation on the territory of Ukraine Western countries announced the actual freezing of the projectas well as the impossibility of launching it in the medium term.

Gazprom: Russian gas boss says ‘our product, our rules’ in supply row

The boss of Russian state-controlled gas giant Gazprom has said it is a case of “our product, our rules” after the firm halved its supply to Germany.

The German economy minister has accused Gazprom of attempting to push up energy prices by sharply reducing supplies.

But Gazprom said it was due to the delayed return of equipment serviced by Germany’s Siemens Energy in Canada.

Italy and Austria have also reported big falls in Russian gas supply. The Kremlin said this was not premeditated.

Gazprom chief executive Alexei Miller said Russia would play by its own rules after limiting the amount of gas to Germany to under 70m cubic metres per day – well under half the current rate.

“Our product, our rules. We don’t play by rules we didn’t create,” Mr Miller said during a panel discussion at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

He said he saw no solution to the equipment issue at the Portovaya compressor station, part of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline that carries Russian gas to Germany.

Mr Miller blamed sanctions for hampering the return of equipment – a claim Germany dismissed as “unfounded”.

Meanwhile, Italian energy giant Eni said it would receive only 65% of the gas requested on Thursday from Gazprom, because of the problems at Portovaya.

But the Italian government has all possible counter-measures in place if gas supply cuts from Russia continue in the coming days, the country’s ecological transition minister said on Thursday.

“The gas situation is under control, we are monitoring flows day and night, damages are so far limited,” Roberto Cingolani said.

Gazprom blames repair work for cutting the supply of gas through the Nordstream 1 pipeline to Germany to 40% of its usual capacity.

Few here believe the Russian firm.

Least of all Robert Habeck, the economy and climate change minister. This was, he said, a political decision. One taken, presumably, to coincide with Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Ukraine (Gazprom announced on Tuesday that it would decrease the delivery, then announced a further reduction on Wednesday).

It’s a warning sign, said the president of the Federal Network Agency, which is responsible for Germany’s energy infrastructure. Klaus Mueller accused Russia of trying to spread insecurity and drive up the price of gas.

The government has urged people and businesses to save energy, but says that there’s currently no shortage of supply. There’s little sense of panic here: it’s summer, after all, and most newspapers are busy reporting an impending heat wave this weekend. Still, the agency warns that, should the reduced gas supply continue, Germany will have a problem. Reservoirs need to be filled ahead of the winter.

And there’s no doubt that the move has alarmed Berlin. Germany remains heavily dependent on Russian gas and, while it’s assumed Vladimir Putin won’t want to do without the revenue, Mr Mueller said the possibility of Russia halting supplies couldn’t be ruled out.

      2px presentational grey line

European energy companies, including Italy’s ENI, Austria’s OMV and Germany’s Uniper, have reported significant falls in supply of Russian gas on Wednesday and Thursday.

Gazprom reduced its gas supply to Italy by about 15% on Wednesday, ENI said. Italy, like Germany, is heavily reliant on Russian gas, which accounts for 40% of its imports.

Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands have already had their Russian natural gas deliveries suspended after they refused a demand for “unfriendly countries” to pay in Russian roubles.

Russia’s payment demand was seen as an attempt to boost the rouble after it was hit by Western sanctions. Greater foreign exchange demand for roubles is likely to increase demand and push up the currency’s value.

    • NEWSWEEK – Putin Is Losing the War. Don’t Be Fooled by What Happened in Severodonetsk

Russia is losing the Ukraine war. Though Moscow is poised to capture the eastern city of Severodonetsk, it again has proven itself incapable of attaining a broader conquest over its smaller neighbor. The Russian army’s so-called victory is the latest installment in its humiliating military display and comes with a crushing human cost.

“The Russian military is getting weaker by the day, with little prospect of overall replenishment or meaningful reinforcement,” a senior Defense Intelligence Agency official tells Newsweek. “Meanwhile, Ukraine is holding on … [and] standing on the brink of major western augmentation of its offensive capability.”

Most experts predict the war will continue to grind on for months, and many analysts are saying the tide has turned in Vladimir Putin’s favor. It hasn’t. Even as Severodonetsk falls, it’s important to remember that Russia has already suffered three major embarrassing losses. First was Moscow’s inability to reach Kyiv, depose the government there, and its subsequent withdrawal from the north. Second was its failure to take Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv, with another retreat from its environs. Third is its inability to move forward in the south, contrary to Kremlin predictions. Odesa and Mykolaiv are no longer threatened by Russia.

The fighting in Severodonetsk will likely go on for a week or more, and even longer if it turns into another Mariupol. “Even if Russia manages to take all of Donbas in the coming weeks, we’ll still see a standoff where Ukraine increasingly has an advantage,” the DIA official says.

      The miracle in Severodonetsk

In his nightly video address on Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelensky assured his people that Ukraine is fighting for “literally every meter” of Severodonetsk.

The eastern industrial metropolis and center of Ukraine’s chemical industry sits on the eastern bank of the Siverskyi Donets River, a major obstacle for Russian ground forces. It had a pre-war population of 100,000; some 15 percent are left sheltering in the city.

Monday, Ukraine said its forces have been pushed out of the center of the city, their backs increasingly against the river. Some have questioned Kyiv’s decision to mount a tenacious defense of Severodonetsk, asking why Ukrainian forces didn’t retreat to the high ground on the other side at the twin city of Lysychansk (population 95,000) to live and fight another day.

This ignores that Severodonetsk has been under artillery and air attack since the beginning of the war, with Russian troops moving to its outskirts and beginning their campaign to take the city almost exactly two months ago. Since then, the fighting has been a see-saw of advances and retreats, Ukrainian forces managing to do the impossible and hold on even when defeat seemed imminent.

In late May, says Illia Ponomarenko, one of Ukraine’s top military journalists, “Russia seemed to be just a step away from severing the T1302 highway (commonly known as ‘the road of life’) and closing the 40-kilometer-wide pocket [around the metropolitan area].” Ponomarenko explains that there was “doom and gloom in the media in Ukraine and beyond, with loud calls to the Ukrainian military to withdraw troops from Severodonetsk and Lysychansk to save them from inevitable disaster.”

And yet, he points out, Russia was unsuccessful at encircling the city. “With time,” he says, “it has switched to much more narrow goals of creating several smaller death traps for the Ukrainian military instead of just one giant. In many ways, this happened due to Russia’s lack of manpower for such a large operation, as well as fierce Ukrainian resistance.”

“The Russians totally control most of Severodonetsk,” says Governor Serhiy Gaiday, head of the Luhansk administration where the city is located. “The battles are so heavy that the struggle can last for days, not even for the street, but [also] for one high-rise building,” he says.

“For weeks,” Ponomarenko adds, “Russia and Ukrainian militaries are waging cut-throat, brutal fighting in the city, throwing more and more troops in the grinder, with houses and districts changing hands all the time.”

Now about 8,000 Ukrainian soldiers—elements of three regular army brigades, national guard, territorial guard, and foreign legion—are isolated on the eastern bank of the river, according to U.S. intelligence.

      Ten-to-One works both ways

Despite fierce fighting on the ground, the Russians, as they have been doing throughout the war, resort to long-range artillery to attack Ukrainian soldiers and preserve their own infantry force.

Ukraine’s General Valeriy Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the armed forces, says that Russia outnumbers his country ten-to-one in guns and rockets. “Despite everything,” Zaluzhny said on Facebook this week, “we continue to hold positions. Every meter of Ukrainian land there is covered in blood—but not only ours, but also the occupier’s.”

“Both sides are extremely exhausted and have sustained devastating losses,” says Ponomarenko.

Those losses, according to U.S. intelligence, have been particularly bad for Russia, which has suffered as many as 10 casualties for every Ukrainian soldier lost since the offensive began on April 18. The senior DIA official ascribes the Ukrainian advantage to greater morale and motivation, better training and leadership, superior knowledge and use of the terrain, better maintained and more reliable equipment, and even greater accuracy.

To take all of the Donbas (as the two provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk are called), Moscow has now committed 45 percent of its entire armed forces. Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine says it has killed over 32,000 Russian soldiers. U.S. intelligence thinks the number of Russians killed is closer to 18,000, but sources tell Newsweek that an additional 65,000 have been injured.

“Russian generals see their people simply as cannon fodder,” says President Zelensky.

“It can’t go on forever like this,” the senior DIA official says of Russia’s shrinking manpower pool. “It started with trained troops, then resorted to reserves and conscripts, then administrative personnel, students and even cadets, then new draftees rushed to the battlefield. They are literally running out of people.”

Meanwhile the clamor from Kyiv pressuring the west to accelerate their supply of weapons continues. Not giving up on Severodonetsk shows that Kyiv is not giving up on holding Ukrainian territory, not ceding anything for free now that it recognizes how weak Putin’s forces are. But it is also part of a holding action—holding on and hoping that sufficient arms will reach the front in time to defeat the Russian invaders.

      Across the river

If Russian forces gain full control of Severodonetsk, the next step would be crossing the Siverskyi Donets River and assaulting Lysychansk. From there, it is just five miles to the Donbas border with greater Ukraine.

This weekend, Russian forces destroyed the Proletarskyi bridge over the river, the last driveable connection between the two cities. Governor Gaidai says the loss of the bridge means that there is “no way of leaving Severodonetsk in a vehicle.”

In order to move forward, the British military intelligence said on Monday, Russia is either going to have to “complete ambitious flanking actions, or conduct assault river crossings,” neither of which it has managed to do in the last three months.

“Russia has struggled to put in place the complex coordination necessary to conduct successful, large-scale river crossings under fire,” British military intelligence says. “Over the coming months, river crossing operations are likely to be amongst the most important determining factors in the course of the war.”

Another factor to ponder in putting the loss of Severodonetsk in context is that it is only a tiny segment of the battle: one that is important in continuing to take all of Donbas, but not so crucial that Ukraine’s defenses collapse.

The frontline between Russia and Ukraine, from east of Kharkiv in the north through Donbas to southern Ukraine all the way west to the Pivdennyi Buh river, is 1,500 miles (2400 km). There are active hostilities, General Zaluzhny says, on nearly 680 miles (1100 km) of that front. Much of that is in communities around Severodonetsk and other pockets of Luhansk and Donetsk still under Ukrainian control. Outside of Donbas, Ukrainian counter-offensives have largely halted any Russian advances. The fourth setback is now likely to happen in the south and west.

As Severodonetsk falls, it is still a race between Ukraine’s need for resupply and reinforcement and Russia’s dwindling manpower.

“Severodonetsk is standing, and Ukraine is also fortifying the defenses Lysychansk just to the west, a city on a higher ground that is belted by the Siverskyi Donets River hilly banks, which gives a big advantage to defenders,” writes Ponomarenko, assessing the bigger picture of the loss.

He warns, as do other experts closely watching the war on the ground, that the loss might provoke both western officials and even Kyiv to see the Donbas as lost. And once Donbas is lost, even if Russia declares victory and a ceasefire, there is a danger of the west urging Ukraine to negotiate, to trade even more of its own territory for peace.

“What will the West choose: a tempting deal with the devil or the good side in history?,” Ponomarenko asks. “We’ll see soon.”

Prosecutors said on Monday that Ryan Grantham, 24, fatally shot his 64-year-old mother, Barbara Waite, ‘to save her’ from seeing his assassination plot unfold

After shooting Waite in the back of her head as she played piano in 2020, Grantham covered her body with a sheet and placed rosaries and candles by her

No arrests expected in what RCMP are calling a ‘national security operation’

Around 60 RCMP officers are conducting raids southwest of Quebec City, targeting people connected to the neo-Nazi group the Atomwaffen Division.

“It’s a far-right affiliated group, which could be described as having neo-Nazi allegiance,” RCMP Cpl. Charles Poirier said.

[…]Atomwaffen Division is a neo-Nazi group founded in the U.S. in 2013. The group claims to be inspired by the serial killer Charles Manson and posits that history will end in a race war.

The U.S.-based Southern Poverty Law Center describes the group as being “organized as a series of terror cells that work toward civilizational collapse.”

Last month, RCMP arrested a 19-year-old man from Windsor, Ont., over alleged links to the group.

[…]According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, the Atomwaffen Division is a white supremacist group based on the idea of using violence to trigger “apocalyptic collapse so a white ethnostate or whites-only utopia can be constructed in its wake.”

They categorize it as “accelerationist” because it’s so focused on the idea of destroying the existing social order. One of its major inspirational figures is Charles Manson, the Southern Poverty Law Center reports.

It “is organized as a series of terror cells that work toward civilizational collapse,” the organization wrote.

“Its members, who can be fairly described as accelerationists, believe that violence, depravity and degeneracy are the only sure way to establish order in their dystopian and apocalyptic vision of the world.”

Police said they’d taken measures to ensure the safety of the local population.

Photos posted at the same time showed officers entering what appeared to be an apartment building, with a police dog, and at a command centre in the parking lot of a church.

[…]Quebec has long been linked to the Atomwaffen group, largely because of a prominent and prolific early figure in it who went by the name “Charles Zeiger.”

He was later revealed to be Gabriel Sohier-Chaput, an IT worker in his early 30s who was living in Montreal. Sohier-Chaput went on trial in Quebec this winter for alleged hate crimes.

WASHINGTON, DC—Dr. Anthony Fauci has reversed course on the drugs Ivermectin and Remdesivir after he contracted COVID this week.

Until today, Fauci has been opposed to Ivermectin as a therapeutic for COVID, calling it a “horse dewormer” and he has been a supporter of Remdesivir as a therapeutic for COVID, calling it a “miracle drug”.

His position has abruptly changed on both drugs, coincidentally the same week he contracted the disease.

“The latest data indicate that Ivermectin may well be beneficial and that people should take it immediately once they get COVID. And the latest data also indicate that Remdesivir is horribly toxic to people and shouldn’t be administered to treat COVID or any other disease,” Fauci said in a statement.

A spokesman for Pfizer said that Fauci will likely switch back once he fully recovers from COVID using Ivermectin.

“We have to listen to the science and right now the science is saying that I should take Ivermectin. But that’s likely to change once I recover,” Fauci said.

“You have to understand that the people aren’t capable of understanding the nuance of medicine. I certainly am. So, it’s okay for me to take Ivermectin but not okay for the millions of people out there to do the same,” Fauci said.

Turkish parliament commission clears bill tightening control on internet media

The Justice Commission of the Turkish parliament has approved a bill seeking up to three years in jail for those spreading so-called “disinformation” on internet. Prof. Yaman Akdeniz, a prominent academic and cyber-rights expert, said that the government’s move aims to create a “climate of fear” ahead of the 2023 elections.

A draft legislation that seeks to criminalize the spread of what the government calls “disinformation” on internet, is moving toward a vote in the Turkish parliament. The bill has been approved by the Justice Commission of the parliament and will be brought to the agenda of the General Assembly for a vote.

Prof. Yaman Akdeniz, a prominent academic and cyber-rights expert, said that the new law will make it further easier for the government to put its critics on trial and will create a “climate of fear” ahead of the 2023 elections.

“It will pass the parliament in an instance; whatever the opposition says nothing will change. The moment these amendments are legalized, they will turn into one of the most important weapons of the [ruling Justice and Development Party] AKP before the 2023 elections and the new amendments will create a ‘climate of fear.’ I can even be prosecuted [with the new law] for writing this. One does not need to be a legal expert to realize this,” Akdeniz said on social media.

“Hundreds of people will stand trial on the crime of ‘spreading information misguiding the public.’ Those that show their reaction to these trials by saying ‘This is too much’ will also be prosecuted,” he said.

“The arrow has already left the bow. The target [of the government] is freedom of expression and media. Sixteen Kurdish journalists, who were under detention for the last eight days, were arrested last night. This is the situation. We will never stay silent,” he further said.

The ruling coalition of the AKP and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) on May 26 submitted to parliament the long-awaited bill that demands up to three years in jail for those spreading so-called “disinformation” on internet.

One of the most controversial articles of the bill is Article 29 which talks about the “struggle against disinformation.” If the draft law passes the parliament, online news outlets will also be required to remove “false” content, and the government may block access to their websites more easily.

  11. globe and mail –Protests against remaining COVID-19 restrictions are planned in Ottawa all summer

Events are set to take place in Ottawa in late June through the rest of the summer for what organizers say are to protest remaining COVID-19 pandemic-era restrictions.

Andrew MacGillivray, steering committee member for Veterans for Freedom says in a YouTube video interview that it will hold a three-day conference in Ottawa next week, from Wednesday to Friday.

Veterans for Freedom describes itself on its website as a group made up of Canadian veterans working to “restore fundamental freedoms for all Canadians” and “uphold Canadian laws.”

MacGillivray says its aim is to have the federal government repeal remaining mandates, reinstate federal workers who lost their jobs related to mandates and pay those workers for lost wages.

He says his group plans to hold a meeting with up to 17 MPs on Wednesday, who are mostly Conservative, and the next two days will be town hall events with key people in the “freedom movement.”

MacGillivray says it will set up a semi-permanent camp east of Ottawa called “Camp Eagle” and will be holding events all summer.

The “Freedom Convoy” protest, which occupied downtown streets for three weeks earlier this year, is still in recent memory for many Ottawa citizens.

  12. BREAKING: Project Veritas LEAKS #TwitterAllHands with Elon Musk

Leaked Video of Elon Musk’s Address to Twitter Employees About ‘Essential’ Nature of Free Speech, Voting Republican, and ‘Evolving’ Twitter

Project Veritas has published the recording of an internal Twitter company-wide meeting wherein Elon Musk addressed thousands of Twitter employees and answered questions moderated by Twitter CMO, Leslie Berland.

“I think it’s essential to have free speech,” Musk said on the call after describing his affinity for Twitter. He added that “multiple opinions” should exist on Twitter to “make sure that we’re not sort of driving a narrative.”

On the call, Musk was asked about his political leanings, his plans for layoffs and the direction of the company.

Musk described his political views as “moderate” noting that he traditionally has voted democrat but voted republican this week for the first time in his life, voting for Congressional Candidate Mayra Flores in Florida. He said he believes most of the world favors moderate politics but that the far left and right should be able to voice their frustrations on Twitter.

Musk also discussed his vision for Twitter saying that traditional news media is “negative” and that they “almost never” get it right. He added that bots, spam and multi-account users must be contained. “I think an important goal for Twitter would be to try to include as, as much of the country, as much of the world as possible,” Musk added.

Musk notes that he’s “not hung up on titles,” but he certainly wants to be the one driving the product change at Twitter.

Musk reacted to the news of Project Veritas publishing the recorded meeting on Twitter, by posting “Exactly.”

[SAN FRANCISCO– JUNE 16, 2022] Project Veritas has published another recording of an internal Twitter all hands meeting wherein Elon Musk addressed thousands of employees for the first time since news broke of his plans to acquire the company. On the call, Musk described his affinity for Twitter and said the platform was best for “getting a message out” but noted that he was concerned about the platform as it currently stands, reiterating previous statements he’s made about bots, spam, and censorship.

“I think it’s essential to have free speech,” Musk said in response to a question about his highly publicized goal to bring free speech to the platform. When pressed about what that might mean in the context of animal abuse, sexual content and offensive tweets, Musk maintained his stance. “I think there’s also, there’s freedom of speech and freedom of breach, so I think people should be allowed to say…pretty outrageous things that are within the balance, the law, but, but then they don’t, you know, get amplified,” Musk added.

Throughout the call, Musk spoke highly about Twitter but emphasized his vision for expanding the tech giant to be inclusive of more users. “I think an important goal for Twitter would be to try to include as, as much of the country, as much of the world as possible,” Musk said speaking to employees including CEO, Parag Agrawal.

On the call, Musk was asked about a wide range of matters including his political leanings, his plans for layoffs and whether remote employees would be required to return to the office.

Musk described his political views as “moderate” noting that he traditionally has voted democrat but voted republican for the first time in his life, voting for Congressional Candidate, Mayra Flores, in Texas. He said he believes most of the world favors moderate politics but that the far left and right should be able to voice their frustrations on Twitter.

At one point, Musk was asked if he would be taking over CEO duties of the company. Musk’s answer was that he “wants to make sure the product evolves rapidly.”

In response to the Project Veritas’ leak of the company-wide zoom, Musk commented “exactly.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci: “No. I think that is somewhat of an absurd exaggeration.”

    Later in the exchange,

Sen. Rand Paul: “Everybody on the vaccine committee, have any of them ever received money from the people who make vaccines? Can you tell me that?”

Dr. Anthony Fauci: “Are you going to let me answer a question? Soundbite number one. Are you going to let me answer a question?”
