Reader’s Links for June 1, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Every time I find myself becoming lost in the information cesspool that is our state-owned collectivist domain I find myself circling back to the largest of all trembling paradigms, U.S. dollar world reserve currency status. The changing of this model, more than any political abuse it can absorb, is due to its foundational gearing to the central-bank imposed 2% inflation rate target. This amounts to a clever 2% ponzi scheme growing at a rate too slow to see moving by Joe Blow–just like looking at the minute hand on a clock.

It was in anticipation of this long-foreshadowed paradigm shift that our beloved globalists, I am convinced, aimed to opportunistically exploit to their own benefit. So it is that we do, indeed, see the controlled demolition of our economies. I do believe this to be the motivation at the heart of the matter, and all manner of weaponized everything is for this end, including the raising of the victory flag named CBDC’s.

  2. Erdogan says Turkey to rid Syria’s Tal Rifaat, Manbij of terrorists

ANKARA, June 1 (Reuters) – President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday Turkey will rid northern Syria’s Tal Rifaat and Manbij areas of terrorists, confirming the targets of the new incursion for the first time and saying it will continue into other regions.

His comments, in a speech to lawmakers from his ruling AK Party, came a week after he pledged a new military incursion on Turkey’s southern border against the U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish militia YPG, which Ankara views as a terrorist group.

“We are going into the new phase of our determination to form a 30-km (20-mile) deep safe zone along our southern border. We will clear Tal Rifaat and Manbij of terrorists, and we will do the same to other regions step-by-step,” he said.

“Let’s see who supports these legitimate steps by Turkey and who hinders them,” Erdogan added.

Ankara has carried out four operations in northern Syria since 2016, seizing hundreds of kilometres of land and pushing some 30 km deep into the country, mainly targeting the YPG.

While backing opposing sides in Syria’s war, Turkey has coordinated with Russia on its military operations.

Turkey’s cross-border operations have been criticised by its NATO allies, notably the United States and some have imposed a series of arms embargoes on Ankara. Washington expressed concern at any new offensive in northern Syria, saying it would put U.S. troops at risk and undermine regional stability.

Ankara’s announcement of a new offensive in Syria coincides with its objections to Finland and Sweden’s NATO bids on the grounds that they back Kurdish militants and groups Turkey deems terrorists, and because of arms embargoes imposed by over a 2019 Turkish offensive into northern Syria.

Russia sends reinforcements to Syria’s Qamishli Airport

“In light of Turkish declarations of a military operation to create a “security strip” at a depth of 30km in northern Syria to allow the return of 1 million Syrian refugees from Turkey to Syria, significant Russian reinforcements have arrived at the Qamishli airport,” the Israeli regime’s Alma Research & Education Center wrote on its Twitter account.

[…]Erdogan has said as the US and Russia failed to live up to their commitments to provide such a safe zone in the border region, Turkey is ready to mount an operation to protect the nation and locals in northern Syria from the YPG/PKK terrorist threat.

[…]News sources on Saturday also reported that Russia has dispatched attack helicopters and fighter jets to its base in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah upon a request from the Damascus government.

The decision comes only days after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s determination to support Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

[…]Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and other senior officials have said Damascus will respond through all legitimate means available to the ongoing ground offensive by Turkish forces.

reuters – Washington’s U.N. envoy visits Syria aid operation as Russia showdown looms

[…]U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said the main aim of her trip was “to get updated on the situation on the ground so we’re in a position, a better position, to negotiate for the extension”.

[…]She met members of the opposition-run Syrian civil defence service known as the White Helmets on Wednesday and was also due to meet Syrian refugees, U.N. and Turkish officials and aid workers.

[…]Russia has signaled its opposition to renewing the aid operation, arguing that it violates Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that more humanitarian help should be delivered from within Syria.

After meeting Thomas-Greenfield, White Helmets member Ammar Alselmo said having to rely on humanitarian help delivered from inside Syria would be “catastrophic”.

Hackers sponsored by the Iranian government last year attempted to conduct a “despicable” cyber attack against Boston Children’s Hospital, but the FBI acted quickly to help the hospital thwart the planned intrusion, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray said Wednesday.

Wray made the remarks at the 6th annual Boston Conference on Cyber Security held at Boston College’s Gasson Hall. He said the hackers tried to penetrate the hospital’s network last summer.

“We got a report from one of our intelligence partners indicating Boston Children’s was about to be targeted, and understanding the urgency of the situation, the cyber squad in our Boston field office raced out to notify the hospital.”

Wray said the FBI provided the hospital with information it needed “to stop the danger right away” and mitigate the threat.

  5. global news – Deaths from monkeypox unclear due to lack of surveillance in some countries: WHO

Health Emergencies Programme executive director Michael Ryan said that despite the thousands of monkeypox cases reported in Africa annually, he didn’t hear the “same level of concern” over the last decade now that it has spread to Europe.

WHO infectious disease epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove also said that due to a lack of surveillance in some countries, the mortality rate for monkeypox is unclear.

The WHO is requesting countries increase their surveillance of these cases, and Van Kerkhove added there’s “a lot” that could be done to better understand the illness.

  6. Scientists ‘really surprised’ after gene-editing experiment unexpectedly turn hamsters into hyper-aggressive bullies

A team of neuroscientists was “really surprised” by the results of a gene-editing experiment on hamsters.

The team expected that the elimination of vasopressin activity would make the hamsters behave more peacefully.

Instead, the gene-edited hamsters displayed “high levels” of aggression.

A team of neuroscience researchers was left “really surprised” after a gene-editing experiment unexpectedly created hyper-aggressive hamsters, according to a statement by Georgia State University (GSU).

The GSU research, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), set out to find more about the biology behind the social behavior of mammals.

The scientists used Syrian hamsters and CRISPR-Cas9 — a revolutionary technology that makes it possible to turn on or off genes in cells. The technology knocked out a receptor of vasopressin — a hormone associated with enhanced aggression.

The scientists anticipated that doing so would “dramatically” alter the social behavior of the Syrian hamsters, making them more peaceful. It did change their behavior, but not how they had expected.

“We were really surprised at the results,” said the study’s lead author, GSU professor H. Elliott Albers, in the university’s statement.

“We anticipated that if we eliminated vasopressin activity, we would reduce both aggression and social communication,” Albers continued. “But the opposite happened.”

The hamsters without the receptor displayed “high levels of aggression” towards hamsters of the same sex compared to their counterparts with the receptors intact, the study said.

“This suggests a startling conclusion,” Albers said, per the statement. “Even though we know that vasopressin increases social behaviors by acting within a number of brain regions, it is possible that the more global effects of the Avpr1a receptor are inhibitory.”

The “counterintuitive findings” show that the scientists “don’t understand this system as well as we thought we did,” Albers said.

Developing gene-edited hamsters was “not easy,” Albers went on. He added that a better understanding of the role of vasopressin in social behavior is vital to helping scientists identify new treatment strategies for psychiatric disorders in humans, ranging from autism to
    depression
