Reader’s Links for May 30th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Like a war breaking out in a Walmart fish tank, it’s absurd.

Everyone stops to look for a moment before moving on. Meanwhile, management supplies one side with weaponry while telling the spectators their side is winning. And management is still buying raw materials from the “loser” because it has no choice in order to keep the shelves stocked. Commerce continues between the two warring sides despite people dying inside the tank. The narrative of management’s side winning continues until the lights in the store begin to flicker. Management is becoming nervous. What if the whole store goes dark? What if the tank breaks and the war spreads?

  7. Israeli passport? Saudi Arabia welcomes you

After lifting a ban on Israelis in its territory, dozens of businesspeople with Israeli passports have landed in Saudi Arabia, taking advantage of warming relations between the countries to advance bilateral economic agreements.

These visits have resulted in two multimillion-dollar desert agriculture deals, in addition to a medical equipment contract. “For over twenty years we’ve had indirect contact with Saudi Arabia, but I don’t recall ever seeing a boom like the one we’ve had in recent months,” a source told Globes.

[…T]hese projects make use of Israeli water technology, essential for the Saudi Arabian desert climate, in combination with other Israeli agricultural technologies. These two technologies are being monitored closely by the monarchy, with the goal of expanding them as part of Saudi Arabi’s efforts to achieve food security and self-sufficiency.

These projects have significance for the entire Middle East, as they also demonstrate to other countries in the region Israel’s ability to assist in areas especially important to countries suffering from food shortages…

Security and intelligence ties are important to the two countries, mainly because of the common enemy: Iran. A number of reports have indicated sales taking place of Israeli security systems to Saudi Arabia. This shared concern has created the common ground needed in other areas, and has also given Israel a far greater geopolitical influence than in the past.

This is evidenced by the US’s recent attempts to recruit Israel to help persuade Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, in the face of the global shortage of energy resources created by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Saudis, who have been disappointed by the US several times in recent years, did not readily agree. This week, two of US President Joe Biden’s advisers arrived in Saudi Arabia to advance the matter. These talks – according to US sources – will also raise the matter of promoting economic and trade relations with Israel.

A first: Saudis lay blame on Palestinians

Officially, Saudi Arabia is wary of public ties with Israel and Saudis make clear at every opportunity that progress with Israel will come only after progress with the Palestinians. Unofficially, however, pictures on social media of rocks, firebombs and other improvised weapons brought by young Palestinians into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem sparked massive outrage in Saudi Arabia.

  8. Why Jerusalem Day Is an Israeli National Holiday

The fault lines over this Sunday’s Jerusalem Day celebrations are often depicted in simplistic terms: Thousands of kippa-clad Israelis take part in the annual parade to mark the anniversary of the reunification of the city in the Six Day War of June 1967, while keffiyeh-sporting Palestinians demonstrate their opposition to Israeli rule over al-Quds. But the realities are far more nuanced.

Although today the celebration of Jerusalem Day is commonly associated with the religious-Zionist camp, it was the national unity government of Labor prime minister Levi Eshkol that in May 1968 first proclaimed an Israeli national holiday to mark the anniversary of Jerusalem’s unification.

Israel’s War of Independence ended with Jordan’s Arab Legion occupying the Old City and eastern Jerusalem, leaving the city divided down the middle by barbed wire and concrete barriers. In violation of the signed armistice agreement, Jordan did not allow Jews to visit the Western Wall and the other Jewish holy sites in the areas it controlled, some of which were also desecrated.

In 1967, Israelis rejoiced in the capture of the Old City, which brought a return to places central to Jewish history and heritage. The Eshkol government’s decision to extend Israeli jurisdiction over Jerusalem receiving almost wall-to-wall public support. In July 1980, the Knesset formally codified united Jerusalem’s status as Israel’s sovereign capital.

Jerusalem Is the Embodiment of Jewish Justice

Jerusalem Day is a kind of Independence Day on which we were reborn. When Jerusalem was liberated, we felt a wrong had been corrected and that two parts of a whole had finally been reconnected. Having arguments to present to the world about our right to Jerusalem as well as our existential and security needs is important, but it is not enough. The focus of our story is our right and connection to Jerusalem and our commitment to the city as a result.

On this holiday, we must speak of the 240,000 Jews residing in Jerusalem beyond the old checkpoints who do not represent an obstacle to peace but rather an obstacle to dangerous partition.

If we do not go as far back as King David who purchased Mount Moriah from Araunah the Jebusite, and his son King Solomon, who built the temple there, we will not truly be able to explain our story here to ourselves.

The sanctity of the city and the memory of its glory were woven into almost every holiday and religious ceremony held by Jews in the diaspora: In daily prayers, at circumcision ceremonies, at bar mitzvahs, in blessings over food, and even at weddings, Jerusalem was never forgotten…

Islam, which now demands exclusivity and ownership of Jerusalem and its holy sites, only showed up 2,000 years after Israel became a nation, while the Palestinians began to define themselves as a people just 100 years ago.

By contrast, since the 12th century BCE, the Jews controlled the Land of Israel for a thousand years and lived continuously in it for the last 3,300 years. In that time, Jerusalem was the Hebrew capital, but it was never the capital of any Arab or Islamic state. Even the Jordanians did not make Jerusalem their capital when they ruled the city.

This is no foreign land that we have conquered. We have returned home, to Zion and Jerusalem, and those who return home are not occupiers. We liberated the city from a series of occupiers who abused us and our rights for generations.

Jerusalem Day Parade Saw Only Minor Incidents despite Threats and Warnings

Israel’s Jerusalem Day celebrations, including the Flag Parade through the Old City, took place mostly without incident on Sunday. The violence that the Palestinian Authority, Jordan and Hamas all warned could happen did not materialize. Hamas’ calls for the “Palestinian people” to mobilize and confront “the storming of the Zionist colonial settlers” were largely ignored, as were similar calls by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ office to “confront” the Flag Parade.

Tens of thousands of Jews paraded through Damascus Gate and Jaffa Gate to the Western Wall plaza without serious incident, where they celebrated with music and dancing. The national holiday marks the reunification of Israel’s capital following the Six-Day War in 1967.

  9. UN Security Council’s European Members Prioritize Lambasting Israel

After Thursday’s UN Security Council session, council members France and Ireland, joined by Albania and former member Estonia, called a press conference to denounce Israel. They failed to mention the recent string of terror attacks against Israelis, including on Israel’s Independence Day, when Palestinian terrorists brutally murdered three Israelis with axes.

Israeli Deputy UN Ambassador Noa Furman responded:
“Since the beginning of 2022, nearly 800 Palestinian terror attacks have been committed against Israelis, in which over 100 [people] were wounded, and 19 were murdered….What is it that drives a 19-year-old terrorist to take up an ax and murder innocents in cold blood? To hack another human being to death with animal-like brutality? Well, let me tell you. Words. Inciteful, hateful, venomous words.”

This poison that is rotting the minds of an entire generation – both at the hands of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority – is directly causing innocent Israeli blood to be spilled while destroying the future of young Palestinians…. I am disturbed to see that not only is this incitement and the lies that support it not condemned, it is spread, often by members of this body.”

Why is Iran showing off a ‘secret’ drone base? – analysis

Iranian media claimed over the weekend to show off a “secret” Iranian drone base. It can’t be that secret if they are showing it to everyone. However, what is being kept secret is its location. Apparently, a kind of “drone city” this complex houses numerous drones that are part of Iran’s emerging drone program and the drones now have more advanced weapons.

The reports of the drone base focus mostly on video and photos of the base that Iran has showcased. Supposedly located in the mountains, the facility includes an underground bunker that is large enough to drive through, which is organized so that drones can be moved into and out of it…

The revelation about the drone bunker base comes days after reports that a drone was used to strike a military site in Parchin in Iran. This also comes a week after the killing of an Iranian IRGC officer who was involved in plots against Israel. Tehran wants to show off its high-level military equipment to advertise that despite suffering losses, it is also continuing to develop drones that can threaten the region.

The Islamic Republic has been accused of using drones recently in the region. It has exported the technology to the Houthis in Yemen and to Hamas in Gaza, as well as to Syria, Iraqi-based militias and Hezbollah. This has enabled all these groups to build up an arsenal of drones, primarily kamikaze ones but also surveillance ones…

The drones have been decorated for the cameras, even sporting names in English … [O]ne photo appears to show an Iranian drone with a radar pod, while another shows an air-to-air missile next to a drone. Another photo seems to show a Fotros drone that could be armed with a cruise missile. There are also Karrar drones in the photos.

Clearly, Iran is at least trying to pretend that its drones can now carry missiles and various types of pods used for surveillance, radar or targeting. But there are questions about whether all this technology works and is operational or proven, or whether Iran has done sophisticated mock-ups of what it thinks drones should look like and what they might one day carry as armaments…

Iran’s goal in revealing this base is to show that it is continuing to develop weapon systems that can threaten the region. Whether all of the systems do what Tehran says they can do is another question.

On Israel’s Jerusalem Day, Qatari State Press Incites Against Israel: It Seeks To Demolish Al-Aqsa, Dome Of The Rock; This Is A Sacred Day Of Resistance That Must Become A Worldwide DAY OF RAGE

On Israel’s Jerusalem Day (May 29, 2022), and ahead of the Flag March traditionally held in the city on this day, two Qatari {spit} state dailies published editorials that incited against Israel, threatened it and called for an uprising against it.

The editorial of the Al-Watan daily claimed that holding the Flag March according to the planned route, which passes through Damascus Gate and the Muslim quarter in the Old City, is an act of provocation by Israel, which seeks to “divide Al-Aqsa” between Muslims and Jews and “to demolish the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

It described May 29 as a “sacred day” of Palestinian uprising to defend Jerusalem against “the occupation’s Judaizing plots,” and called to turn it into a DAY OF RAGE in all the countries of the world in solidarity with the Palestinian residents of Jerusalem.

The editorial of the Al-Sharq daily stated that Israel’s insistence on holding the march was an act that “clearly invites an escalation and a new cycle of violence in the region.” It added that, “in light of the Israeli escalation and the provocative march, all options are apparently open in terms of the unfolding of events in the Palestinian territories.”

Palestinian Arabs and their “DAYS of RAGE”

So we will have another day of rage, for a change, and then a day of anger followed by a day of outrage, a day of violence, a day being miffed, and a day of pique. As if that isn’t enough, we will then have a day of fury, a day of hatred, a day of tantrums, and a day of enmity.

Being endlessly enraged, we will follow all of this with a day of vexation, a day of animosity, a day of being irked, a day of hurt feelings, a day of temper, a day of being unhinged, which could be every day, a day of raving, and a day of delirium.

As if this is not enough and as there are on average thirty or thirty one days a month, we go on to a day of being wild, a day of madness, which actually is also every day, a day of frenzy, a day of hysteria, a day of fuming … a day of wrath, a day of irritation, a day of wounding, a day of incitement, a day of destruction followed by our latest invention, a day of stabbing.

Whilst G-d rested after six days, we don’t, and on the thirty first day, we sit down and plan how we will start all over again and the world, which we clearly understand is stupid, gutless and even on a clear day can’t see further than their noses…

Let us not forget Allah in all of this and thank him for being such a convenient excuse for our human frailties, foibles, greed and madness. Luckily we don’t believe in the Ten Commandments as they would be such a hindrance and Thou shalt not covet really does get in the way, not to mention Thou shalt not kill.
