Reader’s Links for May 26, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Quebec says it is ready to vaccinate people who have come into close contact with monkeypox as soon as Friday.

“It’s a serious outbreak of monkeypox,” said Quebec interim public health director Dr. Luc Boileau. “We have 25 cases that have been confirmed and there are other cases, probably 20 to 30 cases, that are under investigation so far.”

There is at least one case in a person under the age of 18. They are currently in isolation and public health officials say they do not plan to reveal much more information about this particular case.

[…]The province says it will provide those who have come into close contact with an infected person with one dose of the vaccine.

“The recommendation is to give it four days post-exposure with some flexibility up to 14 days,” explains Quach.”If the contact has been continuous or intermittent, we’re giving a window period of four days after the last exposure.”

Boileau encourages anyone experiencing symptoms to immediately seek out a medical professional and follow public health measures, such as wearing a mask and covering up sores.

The confirmed cases include a minor, with another 20 to 30 people under investigation

Quebec will start vaccinating some people with a smallpox vaccine, in order to combat the spread of monkeypox in the Montreal area.

Quebec’s public health director Dr. Luc Boileau said Thursday that 25 cases of monkeypox have now been confirmed in the province. Fourteen of them are in the city of Montreal, though all cases are tied to the greater Montreal area.

About 20 to 30 more cases are also under investigation, Boileau said.

Boileau underlined that the spread of monkeypox was “a serious situation,” but said it is not sweeping through the population like COVID-19, for example.

“We aren’t expecting a rapid, huge number of cases,” he explained. “That’s why we think it can be eradicated.”

    • reuters – EU to Make Breaking Sanctions Against Russia a Crime, Seizing Assets Easier

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Commission proposed on Wednesday to make breaking European Union sanctions against Russia a crime, a move that would allow EU governments to confiscate assets of companies and individuals that evade EU restrictions against Moscow.

Breaking EU sanctions on Russia is now a criminal offence in 12 EU countries. It is either an administrative or a criminal offence in 13 and two treat it only as an administrative offence, Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said. Penalties for sanction breaking across the EU vary accordingly.

The Commission proposal aims to unify that approach to make sanctions evasion a serious crime in all members of the 27-nation bloc, he told a news conference.

“Today’s proposals aim to ensure that the assets of individuals and entities that violate the restrictive measures can be effectively confiscated in the future,” the Commission said in a statement.

The EU has so far frozen 10 billion euros in physical assets and more than 20 billion euros in bank accounts of Russian oligarchs helping the Kremlin’s war effort in Ukraine.

But before these assets could be confiscated and sold off, the oligarchs would first have to be convicted of either trying to evade sanctions or of other crimes and the assets seized would have to be linked to that crime only.

The new EU law, which has to be unanimously approved by all EU governments and get a majority in the European Parliament, would also penalise those who help break sanctions, like lawyers or bankers working with those who circumvent restrictions.

The Commission also proposed to make it generally easier to confiscate assets of criminals in the EU, making it possible to impose an immediate freezing order to prevent the assets from being moved, before a proper court order confirms it.

The Commission estimates annual revenues of criminal gangs in the EU at 139 billion euros, only 2% of which become frozen by the authorities. Only half of the frozen assets are later confiscated.

“With the new directive we will be much more efficient in that,” Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson said.

Many EU countries lack sufficiently robust legal frameworks to seize criminal assets, making it easier for criminals to hide their resources and benefit from illegal activities.

      • So at the start of all this nonsense,it was ban russian gas, then it was ooops our people will get very angry if we freeze them,ok we have a plan by which you can circumvent these proscriptions just keep it quiet, now it is sanction anyone who sidesteps the sanctions, they want their cake and eat it.

Senior Iranian Military Official’s Killing Was a Preemptive Intervention

IRGC Col. Hassan Sayad Khodayari was a senior commander of a secret Iranian unit charged with planning and carrying out assassinations and attacks internationally.

Among operations Khodayari and his men were responsible for in the past three years were the murders of Israelis in Tanzania, Ghana, and Senegal, as well as an attack on an Israeli institution in Bogota, Colombia.

There were also attempts to kill businessmen in Cyprus, a murder attempt in Georgia, an attempt to murder the Israeli consul in Istanbul, Turkey, and an attack on the Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is no longer possible to not preemptively defuse this ticking bomb.

IRGC Colonel’s Killing Highlights Israel’s Shift in Tactics Against Iran

Iranian websites list Col. Hassan Sayad Khodayari as deputy director of the Quds Force’s technological and weapons development, whose purview likely includes the flagship Iranian project to alter Hizbullah’s rocket arsenal into precision missiles capable of striking Israeli targets. According to Israeli and Western intelligence assessments, Khodayari is actually a brigadier general and was very close to Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani.

According to informed intelligence sources, Khodayari was in the advanced stages of carrying out three attacks on Israeli targets in several locations around the world.

These attempts will no longer be executed,” said a senior Israeli security source. Israel will no longer ignore attempted attacks and intends to exact a price from those who dispatch them, even in the heart of their capital. Israel’s counterterrorism campaign has spread from hitting Iranian facilities in Syria into Iran itself.

IRGC Officer Led Attacks on Israelis in India, Thailand

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Col. Hassan Sayad Khodayari, who was killed in Tehran on Sunday, was reportedly in charge of the 2012 Bangkok bombings, in which five people were injured in an attempt by the IRGC to kill Israeli diplomats in Thailand. He was also in charge of an operation targeting Tal Yehoshua-Koren, the wife of an Israeli diplomat based in New Delhi, India.

    • Accident at Iran’s sensitive military Parchin site kills one engineer

Iran media says probe into cause of accident underway at sensitive military site housing several industrial and research units, where Western security services believe Iran carried out tests related to nuclear bomb detonations

An engineer died and another employee was injured after an accident on Wednesday in a research center at the Parchin military site affiliated with Iran’s Defense Ministry, the semi-official Fars news agency reported on Thursday…

In June 2020, an explosion caused by a tank leak occurred in the same area at a gas storage facility.

On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Iran has used classified documents from the UN’s nuclear watchdog to cover up and conceal work on nuclear weapons…

According to the report, the documents – which were retrieved in an audacious clandestine operation of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and exposed by then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018 – reveal how the Mullah regime in Tehran tried to hoodwink the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors who sought to scrutinize its nuclear weapons program about two decades ago.

      • ‘Accident’ on Iranian base leaves 2 dead, several wounded

An explosion at an Iranian military facility has left two people dead and several others wounded, the country’s media reported Thursday.

The Tasnim news agency cited Iranian officials as saying that an “industrial accident” had taken place in one of the facilities on the Parchin military base, resulting in several casualties.

Other Iranian media outlets reported that an explosion took place at the heart of the military compound, killing two “military experts.”

The Intellitimes intelligence blog cited media reports alleging that the explosion was the result of a drone strike.

Parchin is a large military complex located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of Tehran. It is closely linked to the Islamic republic’s missile program and is also believed to house sites associated with the Iranian nuclear weapons.

While Iran denies any nefarious activity is taking place at the complex, it consistently denies International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors access to the site.

  5. U.S. Leak on Israel’s Role in Iranian Colonel’s Death Could Harm Trust

Israeli officials were infuriated Thursday by a leak to the New York Times about Israel’s role in the killing of a senior member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

“It mainly harms trust,” MK Ram Ben Barak, a former deputy chief of the Mossad who heads the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said Thursday.

“We have very many close relationships and a lot of cooperation between us, which all depend on trust, and when it is violated in some way then it damages future cooperation…

“By the way, this isn’t the first time — the story of the bombing of the Syrian nuclear reactor was leaked to an American journalist,” he said.

In September 2007, Israeli jets bombed the Al Kibar reactor in Syria, a suspected nuclear site. The next month, The New York Times published a series of articles based on information attributed to anonymous US intelligence sources…

Ben Barak denied that Israeli officials told their American counterparts that they were responsible for the killing. “As far as I know, we did not inform anyone or take responsibility, and that is for the best,” he said.

Israeli officials told Ynet that they were demanding answers from their American counterparts and expressed concern that the report might lead to a spike in Iranian attacks against Israeli targets.

Israel Tells U.S. It Killed Iranian Officer

According to a U.S. intelligence official, Israel informed American officials that it was behind the killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Col. Hassan Sayad Khodayari in Tehran on Sunday. The U.S. has designated the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group and has refused an Iranian demand that the designation be removed as a condition for restoring the 2015 nuclear deal.

The Israelis told the Americans the killing was meant as a warning to Iran to halt the operations of a covert group within the IRGC Quds Force known as Unit 840, which is tasked with abductions and assassinations of foreigners around the world, including Israeli civilians and officials. A Telegram channel affiliated with the Quds Force said the colonel was known in the field by the alias “Colonel Shekar,” Persian for hunter.

  6. U.S. Negotiating Deal among Saudis, Israelis and Egyptians

The Biden administration has been quietly mediating the transfer of two strategic islands in the Red Sea from Egyptian to Saudi sovereignty. The White House wants an agreement to be reached before President Biden’s upcoming trip to the Middle East at the end of June.

Tiran and Sanafir islands control the Straits of Tiran – a strategic sea passage to the ports of Aqaba in Jordan and Eilat in Israel. Saudi Arabia gave Egypt control of the islands in 1950. They were later demilitarized as part of the 1979 Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty.

Israel asked that Saudi Arabia allow Israeli airlines to cross more Saudi airspace, which would dramatically shorten flights to India, Thailand and China. After the Abraham Accords were announced, Saudi Arabia began to allow Israeli airlines to cross some of their eastern airspace for flights to the UAE and Bahrain.

Israelis also want the Saudis to allow direct flights from Israel to Saudi Arabia for Muslims in Israel who want to go on pilgrimage to Mecca.
    Fishy story.
A set of items on a presumed Israeli wishlist to make nice before Biden comes to blow up the region.

Israel has more leverage with Saudi than the USA.
The over-flights have beem a done deal for a long time now.

The islands in the Straits of Tiran? Long-standing and complicated. Get a clueless, enemy U.S. Dept of State to mediate here? Bogus.

  8. US Embassy bans employees from Old City during Jerusalem Day, and previous Friday

The US Embassy in Jerusalem has issued restrictions to its employees and their families on entering the Old City ahead of Sunday’s contentious Jerusalem Day Flag March.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the embassy banned all US government employees, as well as their families, from entering the Old City at any time on Sunday, May 29, the day the march is slated to occur, and on the previous Friday, when there is higher Muslim turnout of prayers.

The embassy also told employees and their families that — at least through Monday — they cannot enter the Old City after dark. In addition, the statement said, employees cannot use Damascus, Herod’s, and Lions’ gates.

The ban is being instituted due to “ongoing tensions and potential security issues,” the embassy said, without explicitly naming the Flag March. The embassy also urged all US citizens in Israel to “remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness” at this time.

  9. Report: US Asked Israel to Reexamine Jerusalem Flag Parade Route

Senior US officials have asked the Israelis to reexamine the route of Sunday’s Jerusalem Day flag march through the Old City, Ynet News reports.

The Americans are concerned that the current route, which passes through Damascus Gate and the Muslim Quarter, could raise tensions and cause a flare-up.

Gaza-based terrorist groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad have issued warnings to Israel about the parade.

Opponents of the flag march see the route through the Old City’s Muslim Quarter as a provocation, with supporters seeing it as an expression of Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem.

Organizers of the event on Tuesday said that attendance would be limited at specific points of the march, including at Damascus Gate and the Western Wall.

Attendance at the Western Wall will be limited to 16,000 participants.
“With all due respect @USAmbIsrael Nides, Israel does not tell you where to march or not in Washington DC, so please do not tell us we cannot walk in our own capital, Jerusalem.”

  10. The UK government admits the experimental mRNA “vaccine” COVID-19 has damaged the natural immune systems of those given a double dose.
The government has announced that double-vaccinated (or more) people will never – ever – be able to acquire full natural immunity against COVID variants – or possibly against any other virus, Hal Turner writes.

Keen observers of this COVID debacle are now saying “The real pandemic is about to begin” because all those people whose immune systems are permanently damaged may not be able to ward off – every – future virus infection!

In its Week 42 “COVID-19 Vaccine Surveillance Report,” (Direct Link Here ), the UK Department of Health admits on page 23 that:

“N antibody levels appear to be lower in people who become infected after two doses of [the vaccine].”
It goes on to say that this drop in antibodies is essential – mind you – permanent.

  11. How The Biden Administration Is Getting Erdogan’s Moves All Wrong

    • After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, when every sane country is staying away from wiring even a few cents to Russia, NATO “ally” Turkey is still talking about buying a second S-400 system.

    • The result? The U.S. is further appeasing [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan.

    • Erdogan has long been playing the old oriental carpet-selling game: pitting potential buyers against each other to get the best price — Turkey is hoping to be sold to the highest bidder.

    • The West’s appeasement will just further embolden Erdogan to keep blackmailing it: If you do not sell me F-35s or F-16s, I will buy fighter jets from Russia.

Erdogan then turns to Putin: I am your man in NATO. If you do not want me to be a real NATO ally, you must give me something.

    • Erdogan’s double-play has to be stopped. For that, is needed a determined Western bloc who will remind him that he will not get what he wants from his (theoretical) allies in the West by blackmailing them.
