  1. I suppose one of the prequalifications of a Crime Against Humanity is that it be so enormous that nobody can believe their own lyin’ eyes. Check.

Blithely chatter the chattering classes as people around them are getting sick and dying on a massive scale. Sorry, I didn’t mean to make anyone uncomfortable, or to poke a hole in anyone’s pseudo-reality.

Pseudo-reality has been Vlad’s go-to expression on the effects of this great commie enterprise, and he is exactly right. Unfortunately it is a slightly banal expression that doesn’t get the attention it deserves, like a few other things these days.

Whatever you do, stay polite. Stay polite while your blood, or your brother’s blood, clots. Stay polite as the yellow and blue paints you poor. Stay polite as they let you eat cake. Pardon, pardon, as I shimmy through the crowded bus of whispered, private truths, scattered among the interstitial spoken public truth, on its way, inevitably, to common knowledge. Public truth and common knowledge differ in that common knowledge is a kinetic, angry animal that carries a pitchfork, demands answers it already suspects, and delivers swift justice. Ask Nicolae Ceaucsescou what common knowledge is, he’ll tell you. It happens once public knowledge sees itself in the town square, by the thousands, and suddenly realizes it has unified despite the state-sponsored pseudo-reality imposed on it. Then, the fear of the State that restrained common knowledge from emerging simply withers and shrivels and drops to the ground, suddenly irrelevant in the face of the new task at hand. Imagine living without fear. The air clears.

Common knowledge instantaneously sets fire to pseudo-reality with its own oxygen, and burns white hot.

Never forget, it took millions of people, weapons and lives to poke through Nazi Germany’s pseudo reality. To poke through the mentacide that had been inflicted by Joseph Goebbels on the German mind. Now it seems like we have already forgotten to Never Forget. We are exactly back to that. Millions in our midst.

Clearly, the best way to Never Forget is to never give up.

Warnings are being whispered of another pandemic brewing — bird flu, aka avian influenza (H5N1)

Natural bird flu is notoriously harmless to humans, but Bill Gates and Dr. Anthony Fauci have for many years, funded research to develop a bird flu pathogen capable of infecting humans.

Some of that research has been undertaken in Pathogen-funded bio labs in the Ukraine.

Gates-funded research by Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka, in which the bird flu virus was mixed with the 2009 H1N1 (swine flu) virus, creating an airborne hybrid capable of completely evading the human immune system, effectively rendering humans Defense less against it.

The US and other countries have already started stockpiling H5N1 vaccine and the H5N1 vaccine Audenz is being marketed “for 2022”

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen issued a call for large-scale economic assistance to Ukraine, warning that the amounts of help pledged to date won’t even meet short-term needs as the nation struggles with the devastation wrought by Russia’s invasion.

[…]Yellen highlighted the power of US-European cooperation in preventing Russia from trying to “play off some of us against others.” She also said that if Putin continues the war, Washington will work with European and other partners “to push Russia further towards economic, financial, and strategic isolation.”

Yellen reiterated US support for helping Europe reduce its reliance on Russia as a source of energy, while calling for further efforts to transition toward renewable sources.

“We must heed this wake-up call to expedite the global transition to a more secure and cleaner energy future,” she said. “The longer the current disruption lasts — the more aggressively we say no to Russian oil — the more remunerative it will naturally become to switch to renewables.”

Solar panels set to be mandatory on all new buildings under EU plan

New proposal aims to rapidly reduce dependence on Russian fossil and supercharge Europe’s transition to green energy

Solar panels would be mandatory on all new buildings in the European Union under a new proposal aimed at ending its reliance on Russian fossil fuels by 2027 and supercharging its transition to green energy.

The “solar rooftop initiative” in the European Commission’s REPowerEU plan would introduce a phased-in legal obligation to install solar panels on new public and commercial buildings, as well as new residential buildings.

“We can also lead by example,” Frans Timmermans, who is leading the commission’s work on the European Green Deal, said at a news conference announcing the plan on Wednesday. “Let us show as a commission how quickly we can put solar panels on our buildings.”

The initiative forms part of the commission’s drive to scale up and speed up renewable energy in power generation, industry, buildings and transport, to accelerate the EU’s independence from Russian imports, give a boost to the green transition and reduce energy prices over time.

The detailed plan published on Wednesday comes after the commission, the European Union’s executive arm, called for the rapid phase-out of Russian fossil fuels and an acceleration of the European Green Deal in March in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

European leaders then agreed to fully phase out Europe’s dependency on Russian gas, oil and coal imports as soon as possible at the European Council meeting later that month, and asked the commission to develop a plan by the end of May.

The REPowerEU plan published on Wednesday is the commission’s detailed proposal of how to do just that. The plan has three main pillars: energy savings, diversification of energy supplies, and accelerated roll-out of renewable energy.

The commission has said the plan will require an additional investment of €210bn (£178bn) between now and 2027 from the private and public sector across Europe, describing it as a “downpayment” on the bloc’s future independence and security. The proposal says cutting Russian fossil fuel imports can save the EU almost €100bn a year.

“It is clear we need to put an end to this dependence [on Russian fossil fuels] as soon as possible and a lot faster than we had forseen before this war,” said Mr Timmermans. “In March we showed it could be done, the European Council in Versailles decided it should be done, today we show how it will be done.”

      Accelerating the rollout of renewables

The proposed mandatory solar panel roll out is part of the ‘renewable energy’ pillar.

The commission is proposing to increase its current target for renewables to produce 40 per cent of the EU’s energy by 2030, raising it to 45 per cent.

In order for this to happen, the commission is proposing to double the rate of deployment of heat pumps, to produce 10 million tonnes of domestic renewable hydrogen by 2030, and to double wind and solar capacity.

By 2030, solar energy will also be the largest electricity source in the EU with more than half coming from rooftops, said Kadri Simson, the EU commissioner for energy.

The commission is also calling on member states to create dedicated “go-to” areas for renewables in places with lower environmental risks, where it says permitting processes should be shortened and simplified.

It says it will roll out contracts to support the update of green hydrogen by industry and will use emission trading revenues to support the switch away from Russian fossil fuel dependencies. It says it will also “intensify” work on the supply of critical raw materials for the renewable transition and prepare a legislative proposal.

“There is huge potential for rooftop solar … there is a huge potential for on and offshore wind, there is a huge potential for increased biomethane production,” said Mr Timmermans. “If we do all these things we will first of all reduce our imports of Russian gas by one-third already this year and then we will, working towards 2027, reduce our dependency to zero.”

      Saving energy

In terms of saving energy, the commission is proposing to raise its current target for reducing energy consumption by 2030 via energy efficiency, from 9 per cent to 13 per cent.

It is also encouraging member states to use policy to boost energy savings, such as reduced VAT rates on energy-efficient heating systems, building insulation and appliances and products, or by strengthening national energy requirements of new buildings.

In the short term, citizens and businesses can save energy by reducing heating temperatures and reducing the use of air conditioning, switching off lights, using more public transport and using household appliances more efficiently, the commission added.

“The cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use,” said Mr Timmermans.

    • reuters – Factbox: How the EU plans to quit Russian fossil fuels

The European Union published plans on Wednesday to end its reliance on Russian gas, oil and coal by 2027, laying out measures to expand renewable energy faster, save more energy and hike imports of non-Russian fuels.

Gas heat homes, produces electricity and powers factories across Europe. The EU is gradually weaning itself off the fossil fuels causing climate change, but for now Russia supplies 40% of its gas and 27% of its oil imports – a heavy dependency that the EU vowed to end after Moscow invaded Ukraine.

      Here are the key measures:

      RENEWABLE ENERGY, ENERGY SAVINGS

To speed up the green shift, the European Commission proposed that 45% of EU energy should be renewable by 2030, replacing its current 40% proposal. The EU got 22% of its gross final energy consumption from renewable sources like wind, solar and biomass in 2020.

The higher target would see EU renewable energy capacity more than double to hit 1,236 gigawatts (GW) by 2030 and make solar the bloc’s biggest electricity source. To get there, Brussels proposed a law allowing simplified one-year permits for some wind and solar projects, to unblock the years-long delays many projects face.

Countries would also be obliged to add solar panels to commercial and public buildings from 2025 and to new homes from 2029 under the proposals, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

The Commission also proposed a higher legally-binding target to cut EU energy consumption 13% by 2030, against expected use, replacing its current 9% proposal. The EU is negotiating laws to renovate buildings faster to use less energy, and said voluntary actions like reducing heating and air conditioning use could cut gas demand by another 5%.

The legal proposals need approval from EU countries and lawmakers.

      NEW GAS SUPPLIES, INFRASTRUCTURE

The Commission said the 155 billion cubic metres of gas Europe gets from Russia will mostly be displaced by low-carbon and renewable energy, and energy savings, but in the short term countries need more non-Russian fossil fuels.

The Commission said roughly 12 new gas and liquefied natural gas infrastructure projects would be needed pivot away from Russian gas, particularly in central and eastern countries that rely on pipelines from Russia for the fuel. They should be able to run on renewable hydrogen in future years to avoid undermining climate goals, it said.

Individual companies – not the EU – are responsible for buying gas, but Brussels is launching a scheme to allow countries to jointly buy it. Experts say that will be complex to launch and could help in the medium term, but not in a short-term energy crunch. read more

Concerns about Russian supply have already triggered a dash among individual companies to secure supplies – with EU firms outbidding Asian buyers to rebuild gas storage levels after winter at record speed, despite sky-high gas prices. read more

The EU will also work with countries on a emergency plan to curtail Europe’s non-essential industries, should Russia suddenly halt Europe’s gas supplies. Moscow cut off supply to Poland and Bulgaria last month after they refused to pay for gas in roubles.

      FUNDING

Taken together, the EU plans will require investments of 210 billion euros by 2027 and 300 billion euros by 2030. That includes 10 billion euros for gas infrastructure and 2 billion euros for projects to import non-Russian oil, with the rest for clean energy.

Those investments include 86 billion euros for renewable energy and 27 billion for hydrogen infrastructure, 29 billion euros for power grids and 56 billion euros for energy savings and heat pumps.

Money would come from the EU’s COVID-19 recovery fund, which contains 225 billion euros in unspent loans, and the Commission asked EU countries to revise their spending plans for the fund to finance the measures. The Commission will sell extra carbon market permits from a reserve to raise an extra 20 billion euros.

One Day in May—in Jerusalem and in New York City

I was a professor at the City University of New York (CUNY) for nearly 30 years and retired before it was taken down by the same plague of politically correct anti-Zionism that has infected higher learning all over the Western world.

On May 13th of this year, the same day that members of Fatah stole the coffin of journalist Shereen Abu Aqleh in Jerusalem, the CUNY Law School graduates elected one of their own – this was not an administrative decision – to deliver a commencement address. It was the student body, our future lawyers, who proudly support the most vulgar brand of Jew hatred and Israel-hatred.

Please understand: These are our future lawyers who presumably, are committed to social justice law.

The speaker, Nerdeen Mohsen Kiswani, the founder and director of “Within Our Lifetime”(WOL) and a known hater of Israel, was wildly applauded and cheered, many times, by the student body that had chosen her. In doing so, they were also applauding themselves for having chosen a woman who identifies as Palestinian, wears hijab, and speaks clearly and eloquently in American English.

Mohsen Kiswani has called for “Intifada, Revolution, Now,” and supports violent protests which target recognizable Jews on New York City streets. Mohsen Kiswani leads such protests with chants such as “”5-6-7-8 smash the settler state;” “There is only one solution, Intifada revolution;” and “Globalize the Intifada.”

She has “liked” a post which celebrated the murder of three Israeli civilians and shared a video by Muna El-Kurd which referred to Israelis as “Zionist dogs.” She has also celebrated terrorists, such as Rasmea Odeh.

We make a mistake if we think that hijab-wearing Muslim women are only passive, helpless, victims. Indeed, while some may be victims of Islamism, (honor killing, forced veiling, FGM, child marriage, etc.), something they do not usually address, some have chosen the only path of glory open to them namely, that of being very aggressive, even vulgar in public, in order to condemn Israel, Jews, and America.

Think Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib who has just introduced a House Resolution Recognizing the Nakba and Palestinian Refugee Rights as a holiday to be commemorated in the United States. Tlaib is not alone. Think Ilhan Omar who joins her.

Tlaib refers to the “violence and horror…the scars borne by the close to 800,000 Palestinians who were forced from their family homes and their communities, and those killed are burned into the souls of the people who lived through the Nakba.”

Tlaib also brings in what she calls “the assassination of Shireen Abu Aqleh…(and) the war crimes.”

Surely, the global Intifada which Mohsen Kiswani calls for has now made landfall in the American Congress.

The Washington Post reported on May 16 about how a leading Catholic clergyman in Israel had condemned the events surrounding the funeral of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot and killed during an IDF terrorism raid in the West Bank.

What went unmentioned in the entire piece is that Abu Akleh’s tragic death occurred in a terror hotbed, a place out of which most of the Palestinians who have carried out recent attacks came from.

Instead, The Washington Post has chosen to rebrand the city of Jenin as a mere “refugee camp.”

  9. Iran’s outrageous demands are the reason the deal has been stalled – Cruz

US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Tuesday said that what appears to have “temporarily paused” the nuclear deal with Iran is that “the ayatollahs’ demands are so extreme and so radical.”

“[I am] hopeful, which may not be the same as optimistic … I think the Biden administration desperately wants a deal, and unfortunately they’ve demonstrated they’re willing to concede virtually anything.…

“The Biden administration had Russia negotiate the deal, Russia as our enemy, Iran as our enemy, and our enemies are sitting at a table together negotiating a deal that hurts America and hurts Israel.”
