Reader’s Links for April 29th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. If I were the Public Safety Minister of Canada, I would have all hands on deck in Toronto this weekend for the al-Quads hatefest.

Public Safety minister, Marco Mendicino, before he joined the global clown show in Ottawa, was a Federal prosecutor, so he must be familiar with the Criminal Code of Canada.
Section 181 – – Spreading false news: Everyone who willfully publishes a statement, tale or news that he knows is false and that causes or is likely to cause injury or mischief to a public interest is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.

The truckers who were in Ottawa had absolutely nothing to do with the arson case and the police investigation proved that. For anyone to repeat the lie or make reference to the lie, is a totally irresponsible individual, and certainly has no place as a member of parliament.

  2. the sun – Brit fighter paraded on Russian TV in chilling vid showing ‘injured arm & bloody hand’ after being forced to ‘surrender’

ANOTHER British fighter captured in Ukraine has been paraded on Russian TV after apparently suffering gunshot wounds.

He was named as Andrew Hill, a dad of four from Plymouth, and appeared to be wounded with a head bandage and his left arm in a sling.

EXPRESS – Bandaged British ‘mercenary’ captured in Ukraine paraded on Russian state TV

A BRITISH “mercenary” has been shown on Russian state TV after apparently being held in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine today.

Major Serhiy Volyna, Commander of Ukraine’s 36th Separate Marine Brigade gives an update from the inside.

      • Desperate Russians, eh?

With the macho Azov commander using kids as human shields. Trapped like rats underground, begging for “humanitarian rescue”.

Russians know the meaning of POW.
Such whining is degrading. Despite Western propagandist cry-bully tactics. It’s the kind of inversion that seems to work for “Palestinians”.

Nearly 400 people in the Kharkov region alone have been detained under anti-collaboration laws enacted quickly by Ukraine’s parliament and signed by Zelenskyy after Russia’s February 24 invasion.

As President Biden pushes Congress for another $33 billion to bolster Ukraine’s fight against Russia, the rapid pace of shipments out of Delaware’s Dover Air Force base continues.

The Pentagon on Friday blasted the conduct of Russian troops in Ukraine: “It’s very clear that Russian forces have committed war crimes,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby told reporters at a daily briefing. “There’s no question about that.”

Citing the bombing of hospitals and “pregnant women being killed,” he called it “brutality of the coldest and most depraved sort.”

“We were certainly working under an assumption that Putin was capable of pursuing what he believed Russia’s national interest to be with cold steel and with brutal determination,” Kirby said. “I don’t think we fully appreciated the degree to which he would visit that kind of violence and cruelty, and as I said depravity, on innocent people, on noncombatants, on civilians, with such utter disregard for the lives he was taking.”

Kirby also slammed the Russian president’s stated rationale for the invasion.

“Let’s just call it what it is, his B.S., that this is about Nazism and about protecting Russians in Ukraine … when none of them, none of them were threatened by Ukraine,” he said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department expressed sorrow over the death of an American citizen and former U.S. Marine who was killed while fighting alongside Ukrainian forces as Russia launched new attacks in eastern Ukraine.

Comrades, the deep, long and sullen violins were playing tearfully today as the World War Reddit theatrical performance came heavily to the Pentagon. Leading narrative engineer John Kirby was captivating in his role as profoundly sullen squire overwhelmed with the magnitude of the moment and the emotion of the struggle in Ukraine.

The Biden production company is attempting to raise another $33 billion for enhanced theater operations in the besieged European country. Pentagon chournalists are collecting canned goods, including soundbites, to support the war effort; and the Defense Dept is broadcasting the theme to Chariots of Fire across NATO signals.

Meanwhile, emotions throughout Europe are running high as valiant Prince Volodymyr of Donbas assembles his polished armor and directs his trusted steed into the wind.

Yes, today the clouds loomed heavy as Director Kirby narrated his audience while fighting bravely to keep the spirit of Edward R Murrow alive. The wide-eyed maidens held their collective breath waiting in the mournful stillness of the moment… You could hear a pin drop.

  3. zero hedge -Senator Demands Biden Scrap Creepy ‘Disinformation’ Unit; “Dissolve This Monstrosity Immediately”

Following news that The Department of Homeland Security’s new ‘disinformation governance board’ will be headed by a woman who says free speech makes her ‘shudder’ and who falsely labeled the Hunter Biden laptop story disinformation, Republicans called for the body to be scrapped, labelling it a ‘monstrosity’.

Heading the opposition to what has been compared to the Ministry of Truth in Orwell’s 1984, Senator Josh Hawley wrote to DHS Secretary Mayorkas noting “I confess, I at first thought this announcement was satire.”

“Surely no American Administration would ever use the power of Government to sit in judgement on the First Amendment speech of its own citizens,” Hawley continued.

“Sadly,” he added, “I was mistaken. Rather than protecting our border or the American homeland, you have chosen to make policing Americans’ speech your priority. This new board is almost certainly unconstitutional and should be dissolved immediately.”

“It can only be assumed that the sole purpose of this new Disinformation Governance Board will be to marshal the power of the federal government to censor conservative and dissenting speech,” the Senator concluded, urging “This is dangerous and un-American.”

[…]Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he will “take action” against the new “Ministry of Truth.”

[…]Representative Jim Jordan also hit out at the move, telling Mayorkas “You put out a bulletin two months ago, a big fancy bulletin here, red, white and blue. You said that misleading narratives, mis-, dis-, and mal-information, MDM, as you call it, misleading narratives undermine the trust in government. I was just wondering, when the head of the CDC, Miss Walensky, said that the vaccinated can’t get the virus, did that undermine trust in government?”

Jordan continued, “When the highest paid official in our government, the smartest man on the planet, Dr. Fauci, when he said the virus didn’t come from a lab, did that undermine trust in government? And will that be something that this governing board will look at?”

“How about when 51 former intel officials told us that the Hunter Biden story was–had all the earmarks of Russian misinformation? Will that be something that this governance board that you just formed, will you be looking into that?” Jordan also asked:

  4. Suspension of Twitter account Geert Wilders lifted, controversial tweet removed
PVV leader Geert Wilders can again send messages from his Twitter account. The politician was suspended from the platform last week following a tweet to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which he called Pakistani Muslims violent and described the Prophet Mohammed as “fake”. According to Twitter, this would fall under “hateful conduct”. Wilders appealed against the suspension and would have been found in the right on Tuesday, he reports Twitter†
Strikingly enough, the controversial tweet was removed from Wilders’ account on Tuesday afternoon, according to the website Politwoops which keeps track of deleted tweets from politicians. This happened two minutes before Wilders reported to be back on the platform. Earlier, Wilders said he could lift the suspension by deleting the tweet, but chose to appeal. It is not clear whether Wilders himself deleted the tweet.
In the screenshot that Wilders himself shared on Tuesday afternoon, Twitter says it has made a mistake. This is a standard message that is sent after someone has successfully appealed against a suspension.

Geert Wilders: Twitter account has been blocked again
Geert Wilders’ Twitter account has been blocked again, he reports to the ANP. He does not know which tweet was the reason for the blockade. Wilders has appealed the decision.
Earlier this month, Wilders’ account was also blocked for several days. Then the reason was a tweet he addressed to the Pakistani president, in which the PVV leader talked about the many death threats he received from Muslims in Pakistan. Last Tuesday, Twitter reversed that suspension and Wilders apologized.

  5. Some People’s COVID Symptoms Come Back After Taking Paxlovid

Nothing about COVID is completely straightforward, including the wonder drugs used to treat it.

The FDA is investigating cases in which people who have taken Paxlovid — the oral antiviral drug shown to be extremely effective at reducing hospitalizations and deaths — see a recurrence of their COVID symptoms days later after completing the regimen.

The phenomenon appears to be rare, and it’s not clear that Paxlovid itself has anything to do with the virus recurrence. Most accounts have been anecdotal, spreading on Twitter and other social-media sites. NBC News reported on a typical occurrence:

Michael Henry, 31, a vaccinated and boosted software engineer in Philadelphia, first got sick with Covid on April 4, suffering from chills and a fever.

Henry, who has medical conditions that raise his risk of severe disease, got a Paxlovid prescription from an urgent care center the next day. Within 48 hours, he was feeling “totally fine.” But then, one week after his last dose, he got sick once again, with milder cold-like symptoms, and remained sick for about five days.

Needless to say, such incidents complicate the guidance around isolation and when it’s permissible to return to socializing and traveling after testing negative.

Pfizer, which produces Paxlovid, said in a statement that it had documented a small number of people with post-Paxlovid recurrence of symptoms but no more than those who took a placebo.

There is no evidence that a virus mutation is behind the second round of symptoms. Rather, scientists theorize that some people need a longer course of Paxlovid than the five-day standard. Because the drug has not been officially FDA-approved, doctors can’t currently adjust the length of treatment based on their discretion.

Clifford Lane, deputy director for clinical research at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told Bloomberg that the problem was “a pretty urgent thing for us to get a handle on.”

The central challenge regarding Paxlovid thus far has been logistical. Though the drug was approved months ago, it has been difficult for many patients to obtain and has often required navigating a bureaucratic thicket. Many doctors are not familiar with Paxlovid, supplies often go unused, and it has been difficult to obtain quickly in large swathes of the country — a major problem considering that it is most effective when taken during the early days of infection. The Biden administration has recently ramped up efforts to make the drug more widely available.

    • Moderna vaccine manufacturing plant is coming to Montreal

Pharmaceutical giant Moderna plans to open a Canadian vaccine manufacturing plant in Montreal.

    • CBC – Moderna facility in Montreal area expected to produce 100 million vaccine doses by 2024

[…]The $180-million facility is expected to produce 100 million doses of mRNA vaccines per year.

“It’s important to have manufacturing in Canada,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at McGill University, standing alongside Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel and Quebec Premier François Legault.

[…]Details on its precise location are still pending. Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne, who was also present, said the company is still in the process of shopping around for potential sites.

Construction for the plant will begin sometime this year and is expected to be completed by 2024.

Legault said the plant will better prepare the province for future pandemics by reinforcing domestic supply chains and vaccine autonomy.

The facility will also include a research centre that will work in collaboration with researchers from McGill University, who have signed a partnership with the company, and will have the capacity to produce mRNA vaccines against other respiratory viruses including the seasonal flu. Funding for that research is expected to come from Moderna.

“For the first time in the history of medicine, we have a molecule that is an information molecule and that changes everything. It’s like going from Blockbuster to Netflix — it’s a change of paradigm,” said Bancel.

The company has signed a 10-year partnership with the federal government to operate the facility, he said.

“The government of Canada was one of our first global partners in the very early days of COVID,” Bancel added. “When I was raising money in 2020, we did not have the financial strength to get this industrial machine going, and Canada was one of the few countries here to help.”

Details of the agreement between Moderna and the Quebec and Canadian governments weren’t released. It’s still unclear how much public money will go toward financing the $180-million facility.

  6. Canadian faces deportation for alleged naked dance on sacred Bali volcano

VANCOUVER — A Vancouver man is facing deportation from Bali, Indonesia, over allegations that he danced naked on a sacred volcano in violation of the country’s laws.

A translated news release from the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights said 33-year-old Jeffrey Douglas Craigen was accused of making an “immoral video at Mount Batur,” and strongly violating Balinese culture.

“The Bali Regional Director of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Mr. Jamaruli Manihuruk, said that if the said foreigner is proven to be guilty of the violation, an immigration administrative action will be taken against him in the form of a deportation,” said the release.

“An immigration officer has the authority to take administrative actions against foreign citizens in Indonesian territory who take part in dangerous activities and are deemed a threat to public safety and order, or in violation of regulations and laws.”

Global Affairs Canada said in a statement Friday that it was aware of an incident involving a Canadian in Indonesia.

Consular officials were in contact with local authorities about the case, it said, but privacy considerations meant no further information would be disclosed.

The Embassy of Indonesia has not returned requests for comment.

In a video that was posted to Craigen’s Instagram account but has since been deleted, he was seen performing the haka — a ceremonial dance of the Maori people of New Zealand — in the nude on Mount Batur, an active volcano that is considered a sacred site.

The release said Craigen was in the process of reapplying for his visa, and his passport had been seized. He was asked to report to the Denpasar immigration office on Monday, it said.

“We urge the people of the province of Bali to be proactive in monitoring and reporting all kinds of violations by foreign citizens to the authority so actions can be taken,” Manihuruk said in the release.

“And to all foreign citizens visiting Bali, please behave properly, respect the laws and the cultural values of Balinese. For the honour of the country, we will respond forcefully to every violation.”

In 2015, two Saskatchewan residents were detained in Malaysia following allegations they posed naked on Mount Kinabalu, the country’s highest peak, days before a 5.9-magnitude earthquake killed 18 climbers on that mountain.

In a separate 18-minute video posted to Instagram Tuesday, Craigen said he didn’t mean to cause the Maori or the Balinese people any offence. He said he doesn’t “really know what I did or didn’t.”

“My intention wasn’t to disrespect the Maori culture,” he said crying. “I didn’t even know the words that I was saying. I was just expressing what I was feeling. And I sincerely apologize to any hurt that I gave any Maori people. That was not my intention. … It wasn’t to disrespect the Balinese people.”

While Indonesian authorities did not give details on where he is being held, Craigen, an actor and self-styled mind-body healer, said he is “in immigration.”

“This isn’t a plea to stay in the country,” he said. “It’s just a heartfelt apology. So, I apologize to the Maori people for disrespecting their culture. That wasn’t my intention. My intention was just to feel alive because I felt dead inside for so long. I don’t know what to do. I’m in immigration. I don’t have any support … I don’t want to be here.”
