Reader’s Links for April 7th, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Yesterday I saw a Chinese man walking from the local university. He was walking alone along the path beside the Rideau Canal. There wasn’t another person within a hundred yards. He wore a mask, face visor and latex gloves.

This is precisely the fear driven obedience that produces the circumstance we see here. They have ceded all personal autonomy until it may be too late to reclaim it. Rebellion must come sooner.

26 million people confined to their homes – and no end in sight.

Following a public uproar Shanghai officials have now allowed parents to stay with children infected with COVID-19.

But the full lockdown, which started in parts of China’s largest city, has been extended.

Respirologist Dr. Samir Gupta says wearing a mask in public is still the most effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, even if you have immunity from vaccines or previous infections.

      • Given that masks are not effective in spreading the Red China Flu, Dr. Gupta is only admitting that boosters are damaging, while masks are neutral or, more accurately, theater to fealty to the state.

    • reuters – German Parliament Rejects Mandatory Vaccines in Blow for Scholz

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s lower house of parliament on Thursday voted against a law compelling anyone over 60 years of age to get a vaccination against COVID-19 in a defeat for Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Germany’s vaccination campaign is faltering with around 76.6% of Germany’s population having received at least one dose – lower than in other western European countries such as France, Italy or Spain, where the figures are 81.4%, 84.4% and 86.9% respectively.

In an attempt to avoid another wave of the virus in the autumn, the cross-party proposal required citizens aged 60 and over to be vaccinated from October 15.

Of the 683 parliamentarians who voted, 378 cast a ballot against the law and 296 in favour, triggering cheers from far-right AfD lawmakers. It was a free vote, with lawmakers not told to follow party lines.

However, the defeat is a setback for Scholz who had even summoned his foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, to leave a NATO meeting in Brussels to return for the vote.

Scholz had last week been forced to drop plans for mandatory vaccinations for over 18s as he could not muster a parliamentary majority.

Failure to impose the mandate reflects the challenging policy-making dynamics of the ruling coalition government, comprising Scholz’s Social Democrats, the Greens and liberal Free Democrats who disagree on many issues.

Imposing vaccination on citizens violates the second article of the constitution, which guarantees citizens control over their own bodies, the AfD motion argued.

Experts are saying the Omicron COVID-19 variant is seemingly producing shorter-lived immunity following infection.

But experts suspect re-infection is happening.

Given that 81 per cent of Canadians are double vaccinated against COVID-19, we’re still seeing a sixth wave.

Former Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier has been savaged on social media for spreading conspiracy theories about the massacre of innocent Ukrainian civilians in Bucha by Russian troops, with fans admitting it is ‘sad to see what he has become’.

[…}However, Le Tissier has appeared to suggest that the media have ‘lied’ about the unfolding horrors in eastern Europe, having re-tweeted a conspiracy theory and simply captioned it with the word ‘This’, along with a finger-pointing emoji.

Big pharma and social media: how Matt Le Tissier fell into the conspiracy theory trap

The former footballer resigned as an ambassador at Southampton after he shared a post on Twitter promoting the Russian line that the massacre in Bucha was a media fabrication

Conspiracy theories have a pernicious effect on the brain. Like a parasite, they lodge in your mind and can replicate, making you more susceptible to believing other implausible ideas. Belief in conspiracies has become worryingly common: 13 per cent of Britons believe in outlandish ideas.

Among them appears to be former Southampton footballer Matt Le Tissier. Earlier this week, the footballer and pundit was forced to resign from his position as an ambassador at Southampton, the club where he was once a hero, after he shared a post on Twitter promoting the Russian line that the massacre in the Ukrainian city of Bucha was a media fabrication.

[…]It’s not the first time that Le Tissier has been connected with questionable thinking. Public comments made in 2021 suggest that he has uncertainty about the efficacy of vaccines,

[…] Le Tissier took to Twitter to deny being an anti-vax conspiracy theorist. He claimed he had received vaccines in the past – but ones backed up with long-term safety data.

He also claimed that informed consent was not being given by those receiving the Covid vaccine, and asked why pharmaceutical companies had foregone taking responsibility for any side effects.

He’s continued to question Covid vaccines, most recently on 5 April, the same day he spread lies about Bucha.

[…[A number of his followers have helped spread his tweets, while his stand towards free speech and against conspiracies has been picked up and praised by others, including the likes of right wing agitator Paul Joseph Watson.

  4. DEUTSCHE PRAVDA – Ukraine war: Is the EU doing enough? – Interview with Roberta Metsola

Roberta Metsola, the president of the European Parliament, told DW that she saw courage and resilience in Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s eyes on her visit to Kiev hours before the world saw the images of deceased civilians on the streets of Bucha.

“I also saw the face of a leader that would like more from the European Union, from leaders,” Metsola said.

She added, “That is why I went there in order to talk face to face with him, to see how myself as leader of the European Parliament, but also all of us as a European Union, can continue to help.”

Zelenskyy’s response, in Metsola’s words, was: “We need more help more urgently. We need more arms. We need more military help, financial help and logistical help.”

In the European Parliament, Metsola said that there was a mood of “unprecedented unity” over Ukraine.

The EU candidate status of Ukraine, the quick removal of Russia from the SWIFT system and the first and second round of sanctions packages and financial assistance were voted on “at lightning speed.”

Metsola noted, “I think these days are crucial. This week is crucial in order to make sure that the Ukrainians continue to have the possibility to fight. They are fighting not only for their country, they are fighting for Europe.”

For this reason, Metsola argued, “We do not want to remain dependent on Russian oil, coal but also gas.”

“I am one of those generation that did not grow up with war in this continent,” Metsola said, adding, “I would never have dreamt of a war in Europe. But we are living a war and our decisions these few days will be testament to our courage to make sure our children will not live through war again.”

Because of these conditions, Metsola concluded, “We need to have all the arsenal, if I can use that word, whether it’s political, economical or military, in order to have tools in our hands to fight it.”

Metsola only took up the post in the last month, following the death her predecessor, David Sassoli. DW’s Barbara Wesel conducted the interview.

    • MEMRI: Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Other Palestinian Groups Threaten Violence During Ramadan – ‘The Month Of Jihad And Martyrdom’

Amid the current escalation of terror attacks in Israel, and as the month of Ramadan begins, officials in Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) threaten a large-scale and imminent explosion of violence.

This explosion, they say, will take place on all the fronts – in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and in the “1948 territories” – and will be “more powerful and painful” for Israel. The officials also reiterated numerous times that Ramadan is the month of jihad, martyrdom and great conquests in Islam.

Hamas official Khaled Mash’al stated that the coming period will be difficult for Israel and “will hold surprises.” PIJ official Ahmad Al-Mudallal said that Israel’s fears regarding Ramadan are being realized.

Warnings about an upcoming widescale violent conflict were also expressed by columnist Rajab Abu Sariya in the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam. He wrote that this confrontation would be very difficult to prevent and likewise emphasized that Ramadan is the month in which the most glorious jihad takes place.

His suggestions of ways for Israel to prevent confrontation included easing restrictions on the Palestinians, granting Muslims freedom of worship in Jerusalem during Ramadan, refraining from provocation, and creating a path for a peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.

  7. CTH – There It Is, The Canadian 2022 Budget Authorizes a Central Bank Digital Currency

Buried deep, very deep, in Chapter 9.2 of the Canadian Budget you will find this: …”In the last several months, for example, there have been a number of high-profile examples—both around the world and here in Canada—where digital assets and cryptocurrencies have been used to avoid global sanctions and fund illegal activities.”

(Chapter 9.2) […] Budget 2022 includes measures that will help maintain the integrity of the financial system, promote fair competition, and protect both the finances of Canadians and our national security.

Budget 2022 announces the government’s intention to launch a financial sector legislative review focused on the digitalization of money and maintaining financial sector stability and security. The first phase of the review will be directed at digital currencies, including cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.
Budget 2022 also proposes $17.7 million over five years, starting in 2022-23, to the Department of Finance to lead the review.
The review will examine, among other factors: how to adapt the financial sector regulatory framework and toolbox to manage new digitalization risks; how to maintain the security and stability of the financial system in light of these evolving business models and technological capabilities; and the potential need for a central bank digital currency in Canada.

    https://budget.gc.ca/2022/report-rapport/chap9-en.html#wb-cont

Huh. Imagine that. What was called a “conspiracy theory” just a few weeks/days ago, is now the expressed intent of the same government who denied it was ever being considered.

[…]It is not coincidental the financial targeting mechanism deployed by Trudeau/Freeland, the Canadian banking system, was/is the same mechanism being used to create the digital identity, which is now the same mechanism they are budgeting to begin establishing the Canadian digital currency.

Using the COVID-19 pandemic, they created a specific vaccine mandate. Using the vaccine mandate, they created a vaccine passport. The vaccination passport and registration process tracked/monitored human behavior. In actual substance, the vaccine passport can be looked at as the beta test for a larger mission of a comprehensive digital identity and/or social credit tracking system.
