Reader’s Links for March 7, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Following up, the difference between the 2-year U.S treasury bill and the 10-year is .25%. Once the yield on these instrument equals, or inverts, it portends a greater than 90% probability of recession. The historical consequence for precious metals is then:

Treatment with Ivermectin Is Associated with Decreased Mortality in COVID (compared to Remdesivir)

    https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson/status/1500705566842368002

    ====================================
Treatment with Ivermectin Is Associated with Decreased Mortality in COVID-19 Patients: Analysis of a National Federated Database

    Purpose

To evaluate the difference in mortality of patients treated with ivermectin vs patients treated with remdesivir with COVID-19 in United States using TriNetX Research network, a federated EMR network of over 44 healthcare organizations and 68 million patients from US, from 2009-2021.

    Methods & Materials

We retrospectively identified adults (?18 years) with a recorded COVID-19 infection between January 1, 2020 and July 11, 2021. We compared those with recorded use of ivermectin, but not remdesivir, against those with recorded use of remdesivir, but not ivermectin. We controlled for the following demographics, comorbidities, and treatments that may affect COVID-19 survival outcomes: age, gender, race, ethnicity, nicotine use diabetes mellitus, obesity, chronic lower respiratory disease, ischemic heart diseases, tocilizumab, glucocorticoids, or ventilator use. We measured association with mortality as the primary outcome, with significance assessed at p<0.05.

    Results

There were a total of 1,761,060 possible COVID-19 patients based on ICD-10 diagnostic terms and confirmatory lab results. Prior to controlling, our analysis yielded 41,608 patients who had COVID-19 resulting in two unique cohorts that were treated with either ivermectin (1,072) or remdesivir (40,536). Within the ivermectin cohort, average age was 51.9?+?17.8 years, 43% were male, 60% had glucocorticoids and 1% required ventilator support. In the remdesivir cohort, average age was 62.0?+?16.0 years, 54% were male, 64% had glucocorticoids and 2% required ventilator support. After using propensity score matching and adjusting for potential confounders, ivermectin was associated with reduced mortality vs remdesivir (OR 0.308, 95% CI (0.198,0.479)),Risk Difference -5.224%, CI (-7.079%,-3.369%), p <0.0001.

    Conclusion

Ivermectin use was associated with decreased mortality in patients with COVID-19 compared to remdesivir. To our knowledge, this is the largest association study of patients with COVID-19, mortality and ivermectin. Further double-blinded placebo-controlled RCTs with large samples are required for definite conclusion. In the future, if more publications are published with the similar result to the current analyses, the certainty of evidence will increase.

  4. the guardian Florida to formally recommend against Covid vaccine for healthy children

Surgeon general announces policy after roundtable discussion
CDC recommends vaccine for everyone five years and older

The surgeon general of Florida, Dr Joseph Ladapo, said on Monday the state will formally recommend against Covid-19 vaccinations for healthy children.

Experts urge US cities and states to prep for future outbreaks as Omicron slows

Ladapo made the announcement at a roundtable event organized by the Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, that featured doctors who have criticized coronavirus lockdowns and mandate policies.

It was not immediately clear when the state would release its new guidance.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends “everyone ages five years and older get a Covid-19 vaccine to help protect against Covid-19”.

It adds: “Widespread vaccination for Covid-19 is a critical tool to best protect everyone from Covid-19 and Covid-19 related complications.”

The Florida state senate confirmed Ladapo as surgeon general despite criticism that his virus health policy is too aligned with the anti-lockdown and mandate politics of DeSantis.

Late last month, Ladapo and DeSantis announced new virus policy recommendations that discouraged mask-wearing and directed physicians to exercise judgment when treating virus patients, including the use of emerging treatments and off-label medications.

Last week, DeSantis made national headlines by rebuking college students in Tampa who provided a backdrop for a speech and who were wearing masks when he came to the podium.

At the end of the discussion in Tallahassee, Ladapo said: “The Florida department of health is going to be the first state to officially recommend against the Covid-19 vaccines for healthy children.

“We’re kind of scraping at the bottom of the barrel, particularly with healthy kids, in terms of actually being able to quantify with any accuracy and any confidence the even potential of benefit.”

The CDC says children aged between five and 11 should be vaccinated because “there have been nearly 2m cases of Covid-19 within this age group during the pandemic.

“Children who get Covid-19 can get very sick, require hospitalization, and even die. Also, younger school-aged children who get infected can spread Covid-19 to people in their households and school settings.

“With many children back in school and participating in extracurricular activities, Covid-19 vaccination is critical to preventing infection and serious illness, as well as slowing the spread of Covid-19.”

  5. Russia Recruiting Syrians for Urban Combat in Ukraine, U.S. Officials Say
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/russia-recruiting-syrians-for-urban-combat-in-ukraine-u-s-officials-say-11646606234
Moscow is recruiting Syrians skilled in urban combat to fight in Ukraine as Russia’s invasion is poised to expand deeper into cities, according to U.S. officials.
An American assessment indicates that Russia, which has been operating inside Syria since 2015, has in recent days been recruiting fighters from there, hoping their expertise in urban combat can help take Kyiv and deal a devastating blow to the Ukraine government, according to four American officials. The move points to a potential escalation of fighting in Ukraine, experts said.

  8. ctv – Tamara Lich to be released from custody

An Ottawa judge has ruled that Tamara Lich, a high-profile organizer of the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protest, be released from custody following a bail review.

The judge found that the previous judge who denied Lich bail made several errors in law.

The Alberta resident is being released on $25,000 in bonds and must leave Ottawa within 24 hours and Ontario within 72 hours.

A judge is expected to deliver a decision on a bail review for “Freedom Convoy” organizer Tamara Lich this afternoon..

Lich was arrested Feb. 17 and has remained in custody after being denied bail. Lich was the woman behind a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the convoy, which was shut down after raising more than $10 million. The Medicine Hat, Alta. native is charged with counselling to commit mischief.

Last week, a lengthy bail review hearing was held to determine whether the previous judge made a legal error or whether Lich’s material circumstances had changed.

Court heard Lich had a new surety, a relative who cannot be identified under a publication ban. An argument was also put forward in regard to the previous judge who denied Lich bail. Lich argued that had she known of Justice Julie Bourgeois’s unsuccessful run as a federal Liberal Party candidate in 2011, she would have asked Bourgeois recuse herself because the “Freedom Convoy” was a protest against the current Liberal government.

Following several hours of arguments, Justice John Johnston, who was overseeing the bail review hearing, said there would be no decision until Monday.

Over the weekend, several pro-convoy demonstrators protested outside the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, demanding Lich’s release, as well as the release of other convoy organizers who remain in custody.

Lich’s hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday.
