Reader’s Links for March 4, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Details of the attack on the russian shelling of the nuclear powerplant Zaporizhzhia:

    https://www.pennlive.com/nation-world/2022/03/how-dangerous-is-russias-attack-on-europes-largest-nuclear-power-plant-explainer.html
    [..]
After taking the strategic port city of Kherson, Russian forces moved into the territory near Zaporizhzhia and attacked the nearby city of Enerhodar to open a route to the plant late Thursday.
It was not immediately clear how the power plant was hit, but Enerhodar Mayor Dmytro Orlov said a Russian military column had been seen heading toward the nuclear facility and that loud shots were heard in the city.
Later Friday, Ukrainian authorities said Russia had taken over the nuclear plant.
Plant spokesman Andriy Tuz told Ukrainian television that early Friday morning, shells fell directly on the facility and set fire to one of its six reactors.
Initially, firefighters were not able to get near the flames because they were being shot at, Tuz said.
After speaking with Ukrainian authorities on Friday, Rafael Grossi, the director general of the IAEA, the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog, said a building next to the reactors was hit and not a reactor itself.
“All of the safety systems of the six reactors at the plant were not affected at all and there has been no release of radioactive material,” he said.
“However, as you can imagine, the operator and the regulator have been telling us that the situation naturally continues to be extremely tense and challenging.”
    [..]
The reactor that was hit was offline, but still contains highly radioactive nuclear fuel. Four of the other six reactors have now been taken offline, leaving only one in operation.
The reactors at the plant have thick concrete containment domes, which would have protected them from external fire from tanks and artillery, said Jon Wolfsthal, who served during the Obama administration as the senior director for arms control and nonproliferation at the National Security Council.
At the same time, a fire at a nuclear power plant is never a good thing, he said.
“We don’t want our nuclear power plants to come under assault, to be on fire, and to not have first responders be able to access them,” he said.
Another danger at nuclear facilities are the pools where spent fuel rods are kept to be cooled, which are more vulnerable to shelling and which could cause the release of radioactive material.
Perhaps the biggest issue, however, is the plant’s power supply, said Najmedin Meshkati, an engineering professor at the University of Southern California who has studied both the Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters, raising a concern also voiced by Wolfsthal and others.
The loss of off-site power could force the plant to rely on emergency diesel generators, which are highly unreliable and could fail or run out of fuel, causing a station blackout that would stop the water circulation needed to cool the spent fuel pool, he said.
“That is my big — biggest concern,” he said.
David Fletcher, a University of Sydney professor in its School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, who previously worked at UK Atomic Energy, noted that even shutting down the reactors would not help if the cooling system failed in such a way.
“The real concern is not a catastrophic explosion as happened at Chernobyl but damage to the cooling system which is required even when the reactor is shut down,” he said in a statement. “It was this type of damage that led to the Fukushima accident.”
    [..]
Ukraine is also home to the former Chernobyl nuclear plant, where radioactivity is still leaking, which was taken by Russian forces in the opening of the invasion after a fierce battle with the Ukrainian national guards protecting the decommissioned facility.
In an appeal to the IAEA for help earlier this week, Ukrainian officials said that Chernobyl staff have been held by the Russian military without rotation and are exhausted.
Grossi earlier this week appealed to Russia to let the Chernobyl staff “do their job safely and effectively.”

  2. Mad Scientists

Remdesivir studies show that 71-75% of patients suffer an adverse effect and the drug often had to be stopped 5 – 10 days because of these effects, such as kidney and liver damage and death.

Trials during the West African Ebola outbreak had to be discontinued because the death rate exceeded 50%. Yet in 2020 Anthony Fauci directed that Remdesivir was to be the drug hospitals use to treat Covid-19, even when the Covid clinical trials showed similar adverse effects.

Then there are deaths from restrictions on effective treatments for hospitalized patients. Attorney, Thomas Renz and a team of data analysts have estimated more than 800,000 deaths in American hospitals, in Covid-19 and other patients, have been caused by approaches restricting fluids, nutrition, antibiotics, effective antivirals, anti-inflammatories, and therapeutic doses of anti-coagulants.

Treat Covid symptoms immediately and aggressively at home.

  3. Dozens killed in blast at Shia mosque in Pakistan’s Peshawar
    https://edition.cnn.com/2022/03/04/asia/pakistan-peshawar-blast-intl/index.html
A blast struck a Shia mosque during Friday prayers in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least 56 people and injuring another 196, police and hospital officials said.
More than 50 people were injured in the explosion, according to Mohammad Asim, the spokesperson for Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, where victims were being treated.
The source of the blast is suspected to be a suicide attack, but investigations are ongoing, Peshawar’s police chief Muhammad Ejaz Khan told CNN.
There has been no claim of responsibility so far for the attack, one of the deadliest in recent years on Pakistan’s Shia minority, which has long been the target of violence by Sunni Muslim Islamist militant groups, including the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Thousands have been killed, many of them Shia Muslims, in sectarian violence in Pakistan, according to Human Rights Watch and other monitoring groups.
This is the deadliest attack in Pakistan since last August, according to CNN’s figures.

The death toll from a suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar has risen to 56, a hospital official said on Friday.

194 people were also brought to hospital including ten in critical condition, Mohammad Asim, spokesperson for the Lady Reading Hospital, said.

An eyewitness said that the suicide bomber looked like he was in his early 20s. “He was clean-shaven, had no beard or moustache,” he added.

  4. School teacher suspended after using image of bin Laden in attempt to portray Prophet Muhammad in lesson
All Saints Academy in Dunstable apologised for the “deep hurt and distress” that has been caused to the Muslim community.
    https://news.sky.com/story/school-teacher-suspended-after-using-image-of-bin-laden-in-attempt-to-portray-prophet-muhammad-in-lesson-12554458
A teacher has been suspended after using an image of Osama bin Laden to portray the Prophet Muhammad during a religious studies lesson.
Year 10 students were shown an image of the 9/11 terrorist in a class at All Saints Academy, in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, last Friday.
It is unclear why the image was used.
Most Muslims consider depictions of Muhammad, or any of the other prophets of Islam, to be deeply offensive.
The school said it became aware of the incident after a “concerned student” raised the alarm, with the member of staff being “suspended immediately”.
All Saints Academy Dunstable later issued a statement apologising “unreservedly and sincerely” for the distress the incident caused.
The statement added: “All Saints Academy recognises the deep hurt and distress that has been caused to the Muslim community, and many other people of faith, by the totally inappropriate images that were used as part of a recent RS lesson.
“Not only was it offensive to attempt to portray an image of the prophet Muhammad, but the image that was used was that of Osama bin Laden, a terrorist leader, which further added to the deep insult.
“The academy reiterates its unreserved and sincere apology for the distress this episode has caused. In terms of actions taken, we are happy to share the following information.”
All Saints Academy is described on its website as a Church of England school.
Its website says: “Our faith is central to everything that we do.”

  5. Appearing In Shackles, Trucker Protest Leader’s Treatment Defines Trudeau’s Canada

Welcome to the wonderful world of Canadian Liberalism. To comprehend its transformation from what it used to be to what it is today, we point to a definitive example. The treatment of Freedom Convoy organizer Tamara Lich is a political and legal outrage.

Appearing in court in shackles, Ms. Lich was brought in front of a judge who ran as a Liberal MP candidate in 2011.

    R. vs McNeil, 1996: “No prisoner should be handcuffed in court unless there are reasonable grounds for the apprehending that he will be violent or will attempt to escape.” Not only was Tamara Lich non-violent throughout the Truckers Protest– so was every person who protested along with her.

Ontario Court Justice Julie Bourgeois denied Ms. Lich bail, having deemed the convoy organizer a risk to reoffend. Lich’s lawyer later filed an affidavit stating that had she known Bourgeois is a former Liberal MP candidate, she would have requested the justice to recuse herself from the case.

  7. globe and mail – Back from the past, establishment Conservative Jean Charest is the insurgent in this race

[…]Now, he is (for the moment unofficially) running for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

[…]Yet on paper, Mr. Charest appears to offer many of the things that Conservatives have been saying for years that they desperately need – notably a brand that would make them electable in Ontario suburbs and parts of Quebec.

Inside the Conservative Party, that is by no means enough. A lot of party members don’t really know him. He is a veteran, mainstream politician, but in this race, he is the insurgent.

[…]Of course, Mr. Charest was a Quebec Liberal. But he led that party at a time Quebec politics was divided between federalists and separatists, not left and right.

  14. Verdict on Ketanji Brown Jackson: ‘Supreme’-ly heartless

From the get-go, Jackson treated the case with indifference and a sloppy lack of attention, Wood claims. Lawyers said they expected judgment to take a few months. More than 13 months went by before a judgment came. It was filled with flaws. First, according to the family, it was not just terse, but largely copy-and-pasted from the brief Jackson had been given. She dismissed the family’s case, saying it was better tried in Malaysia than America. Perhaps knowing how unpopular it could be, she released her judgment just before Thanksgiving, when the story would be buried.

the gateway pundit – Biden’s Surgeon General Launches Latest Crusade to Purge Dissent – Orders Big Tech to Provide the Federal Government on Those Spreading COVID “Misinformation”

[…]On Thursday, USSG Murthy illegally demanded that all major US tech companies must provide the federal government with data on Americans who are engaged in peddling what has been deemed ‘misinformation,’ especially surrounding Covid-19 or the stolen 2020 election, according to a new report by the New York Times.

In a formal request sent by the USSG office, Murthy called on US Big Tech platforms to gather data from social networks, search engines, crowdsourced platforms, e-commerce platforms, and instant messaging systems about the prevalence and scale of COVID-19 “misinformation” and turn it over to Biden’s administration no later than May 2nd.

Murthy’s request, which was once again billed as “protecting our nation’s health,” encompasses a wide range of data that includes user info, as well as how many – and which – users were exposed to specific ‘misinformation posts.’ He also asked the tech companies to identify and provide specifics on “major sources of misinformation.”

    From the New York Times:

“The notice asks the companies to submit “exactly how many users saw or may have been exposed to instances of Covid-19 misinformation,” as well as aggregate data on demographics that may have been disproportionately exposed to or affected by the misinformation.

The surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, also demanded information from the platforms about the major sources of Covid-19 misinformation, including those that engaged in the sale of unproven Covid-19 products, services, and treatments.

“Technology companies now have the opportunity to be open and transparent with the American people about the misinformation on their platforms,” Dr. Murthy said in an emailed statement. He added:“This is about protecting the nation’s health.”

Companies have until May 2 to submit the data. Denying requests for information does not carry a penalty, but the notice is the first formal request from the Biden administration of the tech companies to submit Covid-19 misinformation data, according to the surgeon general’s office.

Although there is no official penalty for tech companies denying the USSG request, they have every incentive to cooperate and provide the information, despite the questionable legality. The Biden administration can easily penalize them indirectly through lawsuits, regulations, or new legislation.

However, the point may be moot anyway, considering the overwhelming ideological bent among Big Tech companies, which will likely happily provide the data with few, if any, questions asked.

  17. the conservative tree house – Dr. Andrew Hill, The Man Who Killed Millions?

Dr. Andrew Hill, MD, is a senior visiting Research Fellow in the Pharmacology Department at Liverpool University.

Dr. Hill graduated from Oxford University, and attained his PhD from Amsterdam University. Dr. Hill has worked in the scientific and medical fields for more than three decades, with a specific expertise in the field of developing antiretrovirals.

Dr. Hill is considered one of the world’s preeminent experts, and it was because of his specific skillset that in October of 2020, Dr. Andrew Hill was tasked to report to the World Health Organization on the dozens of new studies from around the world suggesting that Ivermectin could be a remarkably safe and effective treatment for COVID-19.

However, as a medical scientist, Dr. Hill also held several financial conflicts within his research. He received funding for his work from the same industry institutions who would benefit financially from a vaccination protocol. One organization was the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation who funded Unitaid, the organization Dr. Hill admits had influence over his final determinations.

On January 18, 2021, Dr. Hill completed his contracted review and published his findings. Dr. Hill advised that “Ivermectin should be validated in larger appropriately controlled randomized trials before the results are sufficient for review by regulatory authorities.” His decision gave the medical research community the space to claim Ivermectin was ineffective, and thus the Big Rx vaccination protocol was affirmed.

In this video, the single most influential person in the anti-Ivermectin narrative, Dr. Andrew Hill, admits to knowingly shaping his findings based on institutional influence and withholding information about the efficacy of Ivermectin while millions of people were dying.

This video is absolutely stunning. WATCH:
