Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. MIT prof: Israel in ‘moral bankruptcy’ due to COVID policy
Prof. Retsef Levi of the Public Emergency Council for the Coronavirus Crisis says Omicron has toppled the government’s COVID narrative.

“Those who are not vaccinated include about 40% of the Israeli population, many of them combat soldiers and commanders in the army, scientists, teachers, police officers – the salt of the earth. The Ministry of Health calls them in sponsored advertisements and statements in the media by the contemptible derogatory nickname ‘anti-vaxxers,’ although most of them are vaccinated with all routine vaccines, and even the first two vaccines for corona.

To them senior members of the health care system, and ‘liberal’ thinkers, claim medical treatment should not be given. According to them, a person who has evaded military service, smokes, drinks alcohol excessively and eats to the point of morbid obesity should be treated if he has been vaccinated with three corona vaccines.

According to them, a terrorist who remains wounded at the scene of an attack should be treated, but Heaven forbid not a decorated commander, a talented scientist or a dedicated teacher, if they dared to exercise their right not to be vaccinated, or even if they refused to take a booster. Absurd and disgraceful.

    • CBC – Experts criticize Sask. premier’s statement that vaccines don’t reduce COVID-19 transmission

‘We should be listening to epidemiologists, infectious disease experts, virologists,’ Sask. doctor says

Some health experts in the province are frustrated after Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe published a letter on social media yesterday that included the statement that “vaccination is not reducing transmission.”

The letter was in support of semi-trailer convoys and rallies held across the country to protest a federal policy that requires truck drivers entering Canada from the United States to be fully vaccinated.

On the second page of the document, the premier announced the end of Saskatchewan’s proof of negative test and proof of vaccination policy “in the not-too-distant future.”

“Vaccination does not keep you from contracting COVID-19, but it does prevent most people from becoming seriously ill,” said Moe.

“Because vaccination is not reducing transmission, the current federal policy for truckers makes no sense. An unvaccinated trucker does not pose any greater risk of transmission than a vaccinated trucker.”

      Physicians call Moe’s statements “false”

On social media, Regina infectious diseases specialist Dr. Alex Wong called Moe’s two statements about vaccines not preventing people from contracting COVID-19 and immunization not reducing transmission “false.”

“Many studies show 3 doses of mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) provides 60-70% protection (vaccine effectiveness, VE) vs Omicron infection,” he said Saturday on Twitter.

“If you don’t get infected, then you don’t transmit the virus.”

Wong wrote even with Omicron being more contagious than previous variants, three doses of vaccine can make a big difference, preventing people from getting really sick and reducing the chance of being infected.

Dr. Hassan Masri agrees with Wong.

There might be many things that are still unclear when it comes to COVID-19 because the virus and research associated with it are moving really fast, said the associate professor from the University of Saskatchewan in an interview with CBC.

However, FROM A SCIENTIFIC POINT OF VIEW, Moe’s message about vaccines not reducing transmission is incorrect and a damaging statement, said the Saskatoon physician on Saturday.

“There is no two sides to this story,” said Masri.

“Vaccines do decrease the transmission of the virus, do decrease the ability to actually acquire the virus in the first place.”

Residents in the province might know others who are vaccinated and still acquired Omicron, but what people don’t see is how much worse the transmission could be if no one was immunized against the disease, according to the ICU physician.

Vaccinated residents who are less likely to get the virus are also less likely to spread it, said Masri.

“No one would ever, in their right mind, say that … drunk driving laws don’t work because we still know someone in my town, in my city that drove drunk and killed someone,” said Masri.

“The fact that it does not prevent 100 per cent transmission is not a measure to say that this vaccine does not work.”

Not time to relax restrictions: virologist

In his letter, Saskatchewan’s premier also hinted on the upcoming end of the province’s proof of vaccination policy.

Already prior to Moe’s statement on social media, a virologist from the University of Saskatchewan’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) had shared her concern about the government’s current moves to relaxing restrictions, such as the changes to isolation and close contact policies.

“When you have a situation like this where there’s a lot of a particular variant spreading, in this case Omicron, which is highly transmissible, you really want to be doing more to decrease transmission, not relax restrictions,” said Angela Rasmussen on CBC’s Morning Edition.

While Omicron appears not to be as severe as other variants, it still has the potential to overwhelm the health-care system, according to the virologist.

Responding to Moe’s message, Rasmussen said on Twitter that vaccines reduce the risk of both infection and transmission.

      Reduce transmission by reducing infection

Dr. Paul Olszynski echoes his colleagues in the province.

He said Moe’s statement about vaccines not keeping people from contracting the virus is incorrect.

“The evidence still shows actually that a patient who has two doses plus booster has a 50 per cent reduction in infection,” said the emergency physician and associate professor at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine.

“50 per cent isn’t 100 per cent. But it’s certainly a long cry from zero per cent.”

Like Wong, Olszynski said by reducing infections, transmissions are also decreased.

When asked why his percentages differ from the ones Wong shared online, Olszynski said he is referring to data provided by Eric Topol, a noted American cardiologist and researcher.

Topol looked at pooled data from multiple studies, said the Saskatchewan emergency physician.

Therefore it ‘s not surprising that there’s a range of percentages when it comes to data of vaccine effectiveness against infections, depending on the population and societies being studied, according to Olszynski.

Wong has listed several individual studies on Twitter, one of them for example is recent preprint data from Ontario, meaning the article has not yet been certified by peer review.

Olszynski acknowledged that everyone in Saskatchewan is getting tired of all the public health measures.

However, seeing the decrease of some policies which have helped to prevent more catastrophic surges is disheartening, said the physician.

      “It’s not evidence-based,” he said.

“I don’t go around telling farmers how they should run their crops…. I respect the farmers, their expertise, their knowledge. I think they should be leading those types of decisions along with researchers who do agricultural science.

“In the case of health care and pandemics, we should be listening to epidemiologists, infectious disease experts, virologists.”

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said Monday that those at the trucker protests in Ottawa this weekend who harassed workers at a local homeless shelter, placed an upside-down Canadian flag on a Terry Fox statue, or danced on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier “owe an apology to Canadians.”

He called what they did “despicable” and said the acts take away from the message the broader community of law-abiding citizens attending the rallies both in Ottawa and other cities were trying to communicate.

He said they are conveying a message that vaccine mandates are not working or necessary and are something they’d like the federal government to remove.

Moe also said actions by individuals like those at the Ottawa protest who conducted “despicable” acts do similar actions at previous protests and that when an “individual performs a despicable act,” it should not detract from the message being brought forward.

The premier was also asked about a perceived silence or indifference by those potentially standing by when such individuals perform despicable acts, to which he responded saying people should step in and stop it from happening.

Once again, call out the lawyers to read the small print! The Moderna vaccine REMAINS on EUA. Read the FDA Fact Sheet. Only the Moderna-manufactured SPIKEVAX vaccine is approved. Even though they are "the same," I doubt you'll find anyplace using the SPIKEVAX specifically here in the US. Which means the Moderna shot you're getting is most likely the one that remains on the EUA. Spikevax has already been used in Europe, where - unlike the US - it's authorized for victims as young as 12 years old. Why would the FDA not rescind the EUA for the Moderna jab, if there's an approved replacement? Could it be the EUA provides liability protection to Moderna? This is the same bait-and-switch "approval" we saw with Pfizer and "Comirnaty."

FDA – Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: FDA Takes Key Action by Approving Second COVID-19 Vaccine

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a second COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine;the approved vaccine will be marketed as Spikevax for the prevention of COVID-19 in individuals 18 years of age and older.

      Key points:

Spikevax meets the FDA’s rigorous standards for safety, effectiveness and manufacturing quality required for approval.

Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine has been available under emergency use authorization (EUA) for individuals 18 years of age and older since Dec. 18, 2020.
“The FDA’s approval of Spikevax is a significant step in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the second vaccine approved to prevent COVID-19. The public can be assured that Spikevax meets the FDA’s high standards for safety, effectiveness and manufacturing quality required of any vaccine approved for use in the United States,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D. “While hundreds of millions of doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine have been administered to individuals under emergency use authorization, we understand that for some individuals, FDA approval of this vaccine may instill additional confidence in making the decision to get vaccinated.”

Spikevax has the same formulation as the EUA Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and is administered as a primary series of two doses, one month apart. Spikevax can be used interchangeably with the EUA Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine to provide the COVID-19 vaccination series. Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine remains available under EUA as a two-dose primary series for individuals 18 years of age and older, as a third primary series dose for individuals 18 years of age and older who have been determined to have certain kinds of immunocompromise, and as a single booster dose for individuals 18 years of age and older at least five months after completing a primary series of the vaccine. It is also authorized for use as a heterologous (or “mix and match”) single booster dose for individuals 18 years of age and older following completion of primary vaccination with a different available COVID-19 vaccine.

“The FDA’s medical and scientific experts conducted a thorough evaluation of the scientific data and information included in the application pertaining to the safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality of Spikevax. This includes the agency’s independent verification of analyses submitted by the company, our own analyses of the data, along with a detailed assessment of the manufacturing processes, test methods and manufacturing facilities,” said Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. “Safe and effective vaccines are our best defense against the COVID-19 pandemic, including currently circulating variants. The public can be assured that this vaccine was approved in keeping with the FDA’s rigorous scientific standards.”

FDA Evaluation of Effectiveness Data for Approval for Individuals 18 Years of Age and Older

The Spikevax biologics license application (BLA) builds upon the data and information that supported the EUA, such as preclinical and clinical data, as well as details of the manufacturing process and the sites where the vaccine is made. The FDA evaluates and conducts its own analyses of the data to determine whether the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine has been demonstrated and meets the standard for approval, and whether the manufacturing and facility information assure vaccine quality and consistency.

The approval of Spikevax is based on the FDA’s evaluation and analysis of follow-up safety and effectiveness data from the ongoing randomized, placebo-controlled, blinded clinical trial that supported the December 2020 EUA for the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and information from post EUA experience to further inform safety and effectiveness.

The updated analyses to determine effectiveness of Spikevax included 14,287 vaccine recipients and 14,164 placebo recipients 18 years of age and older who did not have evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection prior to receiving the first dose. The data used for the analyses were accrued before the Omicron variant emerged. These data demonstrated that Spikevax was 93% effective in preventing COVID-19, with 55 cases of COVID-19 occurring in the vaccine group and 744 COVID-19 cases in the placebo group. The vaccine was also 98% effective in preventing severe disease.

FDA Evaluation of Safety Data for Approval for Individuals 18 Years of Age and Older

The FDA’s safety analysis of Spikevax included approximately 15,184 vaccine recipients and 15,162 placebo recipients 18 years of age and older, more than half of these participants were followed for safety outcomes for at least four months after the second dose. Approximately 7,500 participants originally assigned to receive Spikevax in the blinded phase of the clinical trial completed safety follow-up for at least 6 months after the second dose.

The most commonly reported side effects by clinical trial participants were pain, redness and swelling at the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle or joint pain, chills, nausea/vomiting, swollen lymph nodes under the arm and fever.

Additionally, the FDA conducted a rigorous evaluation of the post-authorization safety surveillance data pertaining to myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of tissue surrounding the heart) following vaccination with the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and has determined that the data demonstrate increased risks particularly within seven days following the second dose, with the observed risk highest in males 18 through 24 years of age. Available data from short-term follow-up suggest that most individuals have had resolution of symptoms. However, some individuals required intensive care support. Information is not yet available about potential long-term health outcomes. The Spikevax Prescribing Information includes a warning about these risks.

The FDA conducted its own benefit-risk assessment using modeling to predict how many symptomatic COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions and deaths from COVID-19 the vaccine in individuals 18 years of age and older would prevent versus the number of potential myocarditis/pericarditis cases, hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths that might be associated with the vaccine. FDA has determined that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis in individuals 18 years of age and older.

The FDA is requiring the company to conduct postmarketing studies to further assess the risks of myocarditis and pericarditis following vaccination with Spikevax. These studies will include an evaluation of long-term outcomes among individuals who develop myocarditis following vaccination with Spikevax. In addition, although not FDA requirements, the company has committed to conducting additional post-marketing safety studies, including conducting a pregnancy registry study to evaluate pregnancy and infant outcomes after receipt of Spikevax during pregnancy.

The FDA granted this application Priority Review. The approval was granted to ModernaTX, Inc.

While Canada cracks down on Indigenous and Black protesters, WHITE SUPREMACISTS get a free pass in Canada. Just look at the convoy

This convoy, which I refuse to link with truckers or “freedom”, shows us who is allowed to speak up in this country, and who will be arrested, attacked and threatened for doing so, Joy Henderson writes

Imagine a Canada where land defenders, opposing the ecological threat of their homelands, are met with violent police and assault rifles.

A Canada where Indigenous women fighting for compensation for children who have been abused by child welfare are sued by the country. Where Black people demanding meaningful inclusion in a Pride parade incurs the wrath of a country because they spoke up at a parade they were invited to. Where Black and Indigenous people who are exercising their rights to protest are routinely monitored by the RCMP, seen as threats to the state.

Where truck drivers ram their pickups through protest lines, or decorate their vehicles with violent and racist language of inflicting harm on Indigenous peoples because of their protest.

Now, imagine a Canada where people openly support far right movements, openly complain about “depopulation of the Caucasian race …(because) the goal is, is to depopulate the Anglo-Saxon race because they are the ones with the strongest bloodlines,” and threaten to gridlock the nation’s capital or overthrow it. Where MPs are being told to hide as the mob receives police escort and are given access to washrooms and warm greetings with the same leaders who threaten to criminalize Black and Indigenous protestors for fighting for their lives.

This is the current reality, Canada. And it’s ugly.

This convoy, which I refuse to link with truckers or “freedom,” shows us who is allowed to speak up in this country and who will be arrested, attacked and threatened for doing so. This week has shown that a violent group of white supremacists, proudly waving Confederate flags in the nation’s capital are given that privilege.

This is just another glaring example of the ongoing legacy of racism and colonialism in this country. Don’t get it twisted. This shows us that our skin colour automatically makes us more threatening than those who spent a week destroying infrastructure and openly threatening to unseat our democratically elected leader. Where people in this convoy are fighting for their barely articulated concepts of “freedom” and an end to “mandates” we are fighting for the state to stop harming us with their state-funded police brutality. We protest for our land to not be destroyed, to repair the harms the state continues to inflict, for clean water.

For schools where our young people can thrive and not be harmed, given fair and equal representation in levels of leadership. However, when we peacefully do this, taking great care to not even hint at violence, we are dehumanized, criminalized, subject to state violence, and sometimes even killed.

We are spied upon, labelled as state agitators, terrorists and are subjected to threats and violence from the public who disagrees with us while the state looks the other way.

For those who work to actively dismantle the racist systems and values of this country, the reaction from our leaders and the media to this convoy was to be predicted. While some love to separate ourselves from the U.S. — living a fantasy that things are somehow more equitable here — we hope if anything that this week has been illuminating.

It is clear who is allowed to protest with state and police support, and who is not.

Coronavirus vaccines for children younger than 5 could be available far sooner than expected — perhaps by the end of February — under a plan that would lead to the potential authorization of a two-shot regimen in the coming weeks, people briefed on the situation said Monday.

Pfizer and its partner, BioNTech, the manufacturers of the vaccine, are expected to submit to the Food and Drug Administration as early as Tuesday a request for emergency-use authorization for the vaccine for children 6 months to 5 years old, which would make it the first vaccine available for that age group. Older children already can receive the shot.

    https://nltimes.nl/2022/01/31/asylum-seekers-last-year-since-2015-refugee-crisis
Last year the Netherlands took in the most asylum seekers since the refugee crisis in 2015. Figures from Statistics Netherlands show that in the second half of the year, especially many Syrians came to the country. A large group of asylum seekers from Afghanistan also fled to the Netherlands after the radical Islamic Taliban took power.
Last year, almost 25,000 people submitted their first asylum application. That is an increase of 80 percent compared to 2020 when few asylum seekers came to the Netherlands due to the many travel restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus. More than 10,000 people came to join family members who already have a residency permit in the Netherlands, over 2.5 times more than a year earlier.
Most first asylum applications were made in the last quarter of the year, nearly 9,900. A striking number of people also applied for asylum in the third quarter.
As in previous years, Syrians formed the largest group of asylum seekers (8,380), followed by people of Afghan (3,005) and Turkish (2,460) nationalities. Most of the family reunification applications involved people reuniting with Syrian refugees.

On Monday, the court in Den Bosch sentenced five men to prison terms of up to three years for gang rape.
In April 2019, they were guilty of raping a fifteen-year-old girl in a garage in Den Bosch.
    A sixth suspect was acquitted.
The gang rape by the five men from Den Bosch and Rosmalen took place in a bedroom above the garage of the youngest suspect in the Orthen district of Bossche.
According to the judiciary, the men only saw the girl as an object.
The then minor main suspect had also had sex with another fifteen-year-old girl in January 2019, who was mentally incapacitated at the time.
One of the five other men would also have been involved in that incident, but according to the court there is not enough evidence for this.
The minor suspect was given a maximum juvenile sentence of two years for both incidents.
The five other men had been jailed for up to four years for the April gang rape.
One of them was acquitted of involvement on Monday.
