Reader’s Links for January 21, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. In Jordan Peterson’s book, Twelve Rules For life, he has a chapter: Pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient.

    He encapsulates this as:
“Meaning is the Way, the path of life more abundant, the place you live when you are guided by Love and speaking Truth and when nothing you want or could possible want takes any precedence over precisely that.”

    ‘Meaning is the Way.’

‘Guided by Love and speaking Truth.’

‘Nothing you want or could possible want takes any precedence over precisely that.’

Looking for meaning, is an emptiness crying out to be filled. It’s pursuit, leads to depression.

Guided by Love and speaking Truth, is simply like any muslim, leaving Friday Prayers, angry to kill the kufar who destroy their meaning. Nothing they want or could possible want, takes any precedence over that.

Whereas The Way, to the Truth and The Life, is to let go of meaning. Because you know nothing. And then you see where you are needed.

A great deed is to raise a child. However, to make it meaningful, will poison them.

Because it is not, ‘Guided by Love and speaking Truth,’ but to be guided by truth and speaking love. The exact opposite.

Then a Muslim can believe the moon was split in two and still live forever peacefully with their neighbors. Truth tested, becomes smarter. Love tested, defines loyalty, and ends with sacrificing the first born and every other discombobulation after.

Living from the inside out. Not identified from the outside in.

Pursue what is expedient, and not what is meaningful.

    • What Slave Master, Warlord or Prophet wants you to have a trurh-lie relationhip? One where you openly and objectively question their logic?

They want you to have a love-hate, pride-guilt Guide

The slave is king who receives meaning.

    • Looking for meaning, is an emptiness crying out to be filled. It’s pursuit, leads to depression.

      Yep, that’s my experience.
Early teens, most unhappy child. What is G-d? Free will to what end? Why? Why? Why?

It was loneliness. Always shy, I was even more insecure in a changing body. I didn’t know how to talk, whom to trust.

I found myself in attachment to others. A couple months at a new summer camp. We bonded around doing: swimming, martial arts, small group Bible study. Whispering in the cabin after lights-out.

Joyous Sabbaths – singing, dancing, exchanging cultural customs. And especially the long walks, talking soul-to-soul. Most of the kids were children of Holocaust survivors. We learned how to share secrets together.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Friday it had started sending two S-400 surface-to-air missile system battalions to Belarus for drills due to take place in February.

The military equipment will be transferred to Belarus by train from the Khabarovsk region in Russia’s Far East, the ministry said.

The United Resolve joint Belarus-Russia drills take place between February 10-20.

According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, the exercises are aimed at suppressing and repelling external aggression, as well as counter-terrorism cooperation and protecting the interests of the Union State.

The drills come amid heightened tensions over Ukraine and warnings from the West that Russia is planning to attack its western neighbour, a claim dismissed by Moscow.

    • the times of israel – Israel world #1 in daily COVID cases per capita; exposed schoolkids won’t quarantine

Starting next Thursday, students to take antigen tests twice a week at home and present negative results when going to school; PM says ‘millions’ of home tests to be handed out

Israel is leading the world in new daily COVID-19 cases per capita, data showed Thursday.

Speaking to Channel 12 news, a top health expert advising the government cited figures from Our World in Data showing 0.6 percent of the population was testing positive per day.

The numbers comparing each country’s seven-day running average put Israel at the top, Prof. Eran Segal of The Weizmann Institute said.

But Segal noted it was likely that Israel was not truly the country with the highest infection rate. Rather, he attributed the figures to Israel being a leading country in the number of tests performed each day, relative to its population size.

Israel is followed in the highest daily cases worldwide ranking by Mongolia, Peru, Canada and Georgia.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced Thursday that mandatory quarantine for schoolchildren who were exposed to coronavirus carriers would be scrapped entirely.

According to the plan, starting next Thursday, children up to the age of 18 will no longer need to isolate after being exposed.

Instead, all students — both vaccinated and unvaccinated — will need to conduct two antigen tests a week — on Sundays and Wednesdays — and present negative results when entering educational institutions.

Children who test positive for COVID-19 will still need to isolate until testing negative.

The testing will be done at home, with Bennett announcing “millions” of test kits are to be given out to parents.

The move comes as some 146,000 school-age children were in quarantine due to infection, and a further 142,000 due to exposure, according to Health Ministry data published Wednesday.

“Wherever we can make it easier for the public, we will. We are taking Omicron seriously, but also looking at the bigger picture,” Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz said.

Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton said it was “a brave decision,” adding that “it would have been easier to close the education system, but our duty is to save every boy and girl” from the damage of repeated quarantines.

Only approximately 24 percent of 5- to 11-year-olds have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, and just 13.6% have received two doses, ministry data on Thursday showed.

Speaking on the state of the pandemic, Weizmann Institute’s Segal predicted the outbreak sweeping the country will end soon. “We are very close to the height, or even at the height of the Omicron wave,” he told Channel 12 news.

At the peak of the current outbreak wave, Segal said one in ten Israelis will test positive for COVID, if they are tested.

Once Israel passes the peak, he said, “there will be a relatively fast decline” from those figures.

Ministry data showed nearly 65,000 people tested positive for COVID on Wednesday, as current active infections climbed to over 400,000.

Over 2 million have been infected since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

The number of Israeli patients seriously ill with COVID-19 rose to 593, according to figures published Thursday.

Among those in serious condition, 112 were on ventilators. Overall, 1,680 patients with COVID were hospitalized on Thursday, mostly in light or moderate conditions.

Under new isolation rules which began Wednesday, vaccinated people who are infected but asymptomatic need two negative antigen tests, on the fourth and fifth day, to be released from quarantine. Unvaccinated asymptomatic people need the test on the fifth day to be conducted at a recognized testing facility, and cannot rely on a home test.

Those who test positive on the fourth or fifth day are required to keep isolating for a total of seven days, without having to conduct an additional test.

And those still displaying symptoms are required to keep isolating for a total of 10 days.

Unvaccinated people exposed to a confirmed coronavirus carrier must also isolate for five days and get a test on the fifth day at a recognized testing facility. Those with immunity are exempt from quarantine if they test negative after being in close contact with an infected person.

  6. “Today is a good day” – Ireland to lift almost all COVID restrictions from tomorrow morning

While Ireland will lift most of its COVID restrictions from 6 am on January 22, the Taoiseach cautioned that the pandemic could present “further twists.”

    https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/1484587655383900167

The Taoiseach said Ireland’s “world-class vaccination programme and the rollout of boosters has utterly transformed our situation.

“It was our vaccinations and boosters that prevented the recent wave of infection translating into much more serious levels of illness and death.

    : ) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

“Based on this evidence, we’ve concluded that the rationale and justification for continuing most of our public health restrictions are no longer in place.

“Therefore, from 6 am tomorrow morning, the majority of public health measures that we’ve had to live with will be removed.

“Guidance in relation to household visiting will no longer apply.

“Restrictions on capacity for all indoor and outdoor events will no longer apply.

“Closing time for hospitality and events will return to where it was before the pandemic.

“The COVID pass requirement for access to hospitality and indoor activities will no longer apply.

“The various requirements around managing people’s movements at indoor hospitality and entertainment venues will no longer be required.

“And a phased return to the workplace for all staff will now commence.

“Because of the international situation, there are no changes to the current measures in place in relation to international travel.

“And a limited number of protective measures will remain in place for the coming month. Based on the advice of NPHET, the wearing of masks where they are currently required will continue. Similarly, protective measures will remain in place in primary and secondary schools.

“Also, the advice for those with symptoms, positive cases, and close contacts remains in place.

“These will be reviewed before the end of February by which time all children aged between 5 and 11 will have had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated.”

The Taoiseach went on to say that “vaccination is key,” and cautioned that “the pandemic isn’t over.”

He said: “The changes we are making will likely lead to a temporary rise in infections in the short-term, but we are advised that the impact of this rise will be limited by the scale of vaccination in the population.

“It is important also to say that I can’t promise you there won’t be further twists in this pandemic requiring different decisions in the future.”

Towards the end of his speech, the Taoiseach said: “There is much to do, but today is a good day, and we should all take a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come.”

Spring is coming, and I don’t know if I’ve ever looked forward to one as much as I’m looking forward to this one. Humans are social beings, and we Irish are more social than most.

“As we look forward to this spring, we need to see each other again, we need to see each other smile, we need to sing again.”

He concluded: “It is time to be ourselves again.”

  7. AUSTRALIA – PM tells Australians to disregard George Christensen over ‘dangerous’ vaccine advice

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged parents to ignore George Christensen, a member of his own government, after labelling the member for Dawson’s calls for them not to immunise their children as “dangerous”.

The Queensland MP, who has announced he will not contest the next election, released a podcast on Tuesday morning under the title “Do NOT vax your children” accompanied by an interview with Dr Robert Malone, whose views on COVID-19 vaccinations have been widely debunked.

Dr Malone has been permanently suspended from Twitter for spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

“I strongly disagree with the message sent out by Mr Christensen regarding children’s vaccinations,” Mr Morrison said in a statement.

“It is contrary to the official professional medical advice provided to the government, and I urge parents to disregard his dangerous messages in relation to vaccines.”

Mr Morrison said vaccinations were “our primary weapon against this virus” currently sweeping through the Australian population.

The statement, issued on Tuesday afternoon, made no mention of any action the government might take against Mr Christensen.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese said the inaction was a “failure of leadership” on the part of the Prime Minister.

“Scott Morrison has just presided over a circumstance, which has been watched by the whole world, of the deportation of Novak Djokovic,” he told Sydney radio 2SM.

“At the same time that, eventually, there was action taken, there’s been no action taken whatsoever against [South Australian Liberal Senator] Alex Antic, George Christensen, and [Queensland Nationals Senator] Matt Canavan at various times.

“They have said some rather extraordinary things. These are people who are out there promoting ideas that are based upon conspiracy theories, which, if listened to, would have a bad health outcome for people who would follow their advice.”

Mr Christensen’s Nationals partyroom colleague Darren Chester went further than the Prime Minister, calling out the “reckless” claim, which he described as “just more of the same conspiracy theory crap”.

Former Nationals leader Michael McCormack, meanwhile, seemed to suggest Mr Christensen needed to be “pulled into line” in a Twitter post on Tuesday night.

But the Nationals’ leader, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, has long said Mr Christensen had a right to express his views.

“We’ve got anti-vaxxers, certainly, but they’re not from overseas,” Mr Joyce told this masthead earlier this week.

“What can [we] do? As much as [Immigration Minister Alex] Hawke would like, he can’t send any of our politicians to Serbia.”

But Mr Albanese said that as government MPs, they had extra responsibility.

“As Australians, they can say whatever they like, but these are government members,” he said. “They shouldn’t say whatever they like as members of the Australian government.”

Earlier, Health Minister Greg Hunt said he had not heard about Mr Christensen’s comments.

“Vaccinations save lives and I would flatly, plainly disagree with anyone who said that,” he said.

“Anti-vaxxers aren’t just losing the debate, they’ve lost the debate.

“We’re at a 95 per cent national 16-plus vaccination rate. That’s beyond the conception of almost any commentator or observer through the course of the pandemic, and yet we pushed through.”

Scott Morrison tells Australians to ignore George Christensen

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has joined a chorus of criticism against outgoing MP George Christensen, calling on parents to ignore his “dangerous messages” about COVID-19 vaccines for children.

The Nationals MP posted a podcast titled “Do NOT Vax Your Children” which carried an interview with outspoken vaccine sceptic, Dr Robert Malone, who has previously been banned from Twitter for violating the platform’s COVID-19 misinformation policy.

Mr Morrison instead urged parents to listen to the “world’s best medical regulators” in a statement late on Tuesday.

  9. MPs clash with Wilders over terrorism accusations
    https://nltimes.nl/2022/01/18/mps-clash-wilders-terrorism-accusations
PVV leader Geert Wilders clashed with multiple parties in a parliamentary debate on Tuesday, including about VVD adviser Soumaya Sahla and a tweet in which he suggested that Dilan Ye?ilgöz’s appointment as Justice Minister will jeopardize his security.
Soumaya Sahla was arrested in 2005 for involvement in the terrorist Hofstad Group and later sentenced to three years in prison. She is now committed to combatting radicalization. The debate became increasingly heated when Wilders involved D66 parliamentarian Fonda Sahla. She is Soumaya’s sister. According to the PVV leader, the D66 MP gives her sister access to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament. “Then there’s a convicted terrorist walking around.” Fonda Sahla also wears a headscarf in the Kamer, something Wilders has been campaigning against for some time.
Several parties thought Wilders’ statements went too far. VVD faction leader Sophie Hermans stressed that Soumaya Sahla does not work for the VVD faction and therefore does not have access to the Tweede Kamer. She also wants to “throw the accusations far from me. We have to judge everyone on the contribution to the debate.”
GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver criticized Wilders for bringing D66 MP Salha into the discussion because she is Soumaya’s sister. He recalled that Wilders was previously “rightly furious” when his brother was involved in the debate. “But now he does the same thing.” He called on Wilders to take back his words, but Wilders refused. “I’m not taking anything back, crazy,” Wilders snapped at him.
Wilders has been hacking away at democratic legal order for years with many of his statements, Klaver said. “And to be honest: we have been much too soft on that,” he said, asking the Kamer President to intervene when Wilders goes too far. According to Klaver, Wilders often crosses the line, and his statements contribute to the popularity of conspiracy theories and threats against journalists and politicians. “We allowed it to be said in this hall,” Klaver said. “It does not fit anywhere. Not in society, and certainly not in parliament.”
Klaver received support from CDA chairman Pieter Heerma. “I don’t think anyone can avoid the impression that accusing someone by name here in the hall is often followed by the report that they need personal security.” Minister and D66 leader Sigrid Kaag has “experienced firsthand how threatening the consequences of words can be,” he said, referring to a man standing in front of her house with a burning torch and shouting conspiracy slogans at her.
Heerma feels that there is a connection between some politicians’ statements in the debate and the others’ security situation. He asked Kamer President Vera Bergkamp and the board of the Tweede Kamer to investigate this. If the feeling is right, then “the way the debate is conducted is part of what is smothering the debate,” said Heerma. Then the Kamer president can intervene, he said.
Bergkamp reprimanded Wilders because Sahla did not participate in the debate and could not defend herself against his allegations. Bergkamp also finds the comments about the D66 parliamentarian’s headscarf “disrespectful.” Wilders refused to take back his words.
The coalition parties also attacked Wilders over a tweet in which he suggested that his security may be jeopardized by the appointment of VVD member Dilan Ye?ilgöz as Justice Minister.
D66 chairman Jan Paternotte addressed Wilders about the tweet immediately after his first sentence in the debate. “I had hoped that Mr. Wilders would start with an apology, but he starts with a different story.” Paternotte called it a “completely nonsensical, idiotic suggestion” that Wilders made in his tweet. Wilders wrote that Ye?ilgöz, “a VVD member of Turkish descent,” might lift his security and hope he “disappears under the grass.”
VVD faction leader Herman wants to know why Wilders did not respond to calls and messages from Ye?ilgöz when she approached him to discuss the matter. “Why have the nerve to send such a reprehensible tweet but not to call back?” Wilders said he did not consider it necessary to call back because Ye?ilgöz was still State Secretary of Climate at the time.
CDA chairman Heerma called this an “excuse.” Wilders “feels that his main story is not going anywhere,” Heerma said. He finds it particularly reprehensible that the opposition leader pointed to the VVD as a party that does not want to protect him. Wilders thus suggests “that a political party in the Kamer wants him killed,” Heerma said. “That says more about Mr. Wilders than about the Cabinet.”
Wilders has since had contact with Ye?ilgöz. They will talk about the matter this week. Wilders doesn’t think it will be a “nice conversation, but I’m going anyway.”

He may have suspected he was on a kill list because of his statements. In 2016, two close contacts of his were murdered.
According to Het Parool, Nabil B., key witness in the Marengo trial around Taghi’s criminal organization, once stated that Ebrahim B. was ‘at the top’ of Taghi’s list of liquidation targets.

  12. Apparently it’s politically correct to deny a genocide:

Declaration against Rijksmuseum for using term ‘bersiap’ in exhibition
    https://vnexplorer.net/declaration-against-rijksmuseum-for-using-term-bersiap-in-exhibition-ew20224293163.html
The Committee of Dutch Honorary Debts, which stands up for victims of Dutch colonialism, has filed a complaint against the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for discrimination and group insult. The reason is the use of the term ‘bersiap’ in the exhibition Revolution! about the Indonesian independence struggle. According to the foundation, this term is racist and stigmatizing.
In addition to the museum itself, a complaint has also been filed against museum director Taco Dibbits and curator Harm Stevens. The report was filed online today, says Jeffry Pondaag of the Committee.
Bersiap means ‘stand by’ in Malay. In the Netherlands, the term is used for the violent period immediately after the end of the Second World War, in the struggle for independence from Indonesia. Young fighters then attacked not only Indo-Dutchmen, but also Chinese and Moluccans, anyone suspected of supporting the Dutch colonizer.
Initially, it seemed that the term would not be used in the Rijksmuseum’s exhibition. Indonesian guest curator and historian Bonnie Triyana wrote in an opinion piece in NRC that the term was avoided because it has a racist connotation. Later, the museum reported that it was different.
    Not banned
Director Dibbits told NRC that the term has not been banned and that, as far as he is concerned, it is not racist. “We explain the term, we interpret it and place it in the historical context of all the violence at that time.” In the interview, he emphasizes that Triyana wrote an opinion piece. “It was written in a personal capacity.”
The Committee on Dutch Honorary Debts is outraged about this. “The Rijksmuseum will knowingly continue to use a term that stigmatizes Indonesians in a colonial way,” says a statement on the committee’s website. “The whole concept of the bersiap feeds the racist cliché that Indonesians are beastly savages. The term is also used to legitimize colonialism by talking along the lines of: where two fight, two are to blame.”
According to the Committee, the word bersiap erases the colonial balance of power. It is “wrongly presented as an ethnic struggle when it was a freedom struggle against a foreign occupier”. This will erase the Indonesian dead, says Pondaag.
The Committee of Dutch Honorary Debts previously worked for the victims of the massacre that Dutch soldiers inflicted in Rawagede on Java in 1947.
