Reader’s Links for January 8, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. JANUARY 6, 2022 Eindhoven terrorism suspects discussed beheading Dutch PM, far-right politician: Prosecutor
    https://nltimes.nl/2022/01/06/eindhoven-terrorism-suspects-discussed-beheading-dutch-pm-far-right-politician
Eight men from Eindhoven suspected of preparing a terrorist attack talked about killing Mark Rutte and Geert Wilders, among others. They wanted to “pop them in the head” or “kidnap and behead the politicians “during a live stream,” said the public prosecutor on Thursday during the first preparatory hearing about the case in a Rotterdam courtroom.
PVV leader Wilders was in court to hear the accusations.
The men, aged between 20 and 31, are said to sympathize with the jihadist ideas of the terrorist group ISIS. They are suspected of preparing and training for a terrorist offense and participating in a terrorist organization. According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), they regularly watched ISIS propaganda videos and instructional videos about making weapons and bombs. The authorities found no weapons or explosives. The prosecutor said there were no concrete plans or dates for an attack.
The suspects vehemently deny the accusations. According to them, they were just improper jokes made in bad taste by a group of acquaintances who trained together in a garage in Eindhoven. Lawyer Peter Plasman, who represents two suspects, said that there is no real cause to allege terrorism. “It is about freedom of expression, the freedom to watch disgusting videos and make really bad jokes.”
Lawyer Bart Nooitgedagt, who represents 31-year-old twin brothers Hasan A. and Huseyin A., added that his clients “are not defending themselves for something they have done in this criminal case, but something that could have happened according to the Public Prosecution Service.”
The investigation started this past summer based on information from General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). “It’s all so blown out of proportion,” added Younes A.’s lawyer, Serge Weening. “The AIVD kept an eye on these guys for two years and then they come up with only scant information.”
The suspects have been held in pre-trial detention for more than three months. The court will decide next Thursday whether that will remain the case for the time being. After that, the next hearing on the status of the case is set for March 18.

  2. Health Minister: Lockdown unlikely to end next week; Press conference expected Jan. 14
    https://nltimes.nl/2022/01/07/health-minister-lockdown-unlikely-end-next-week-press-conference-expected-jan-14
Health Minister Hugo de Jonge told reporters gathered in The Hague that residents should not expect the current lockdown in the Netherlands to be significantly relaxed after January 14. A press conference to announce any changes to the coronavirus policy is expected next Friday. “We must remain cautious,” De Jonge said on Friday after his last meeting with the Council of Ministers as the country’s public health minister.
The average number of daily coronavirus infections in the Netherlands reached an all-time peak of 22,543 on November 28, when the Cabinet implemented an evening lockdown. Despite daily infections falling by a third, the lockdown was expanded on December 18 to include most publicly accessible locations at all hours.

  3. reuters – Omicron spike in most vaccinated German state heralds nationwide surge

BERLIN, Jan 7 (Reuters) – The northern German maritime state of Bremen has the country’s highest COVID-19 vaccination rate by far, but it has become the hardest-hit by the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, reporting the highest infection rate of any region in Germany.

Experts say that the spike in Bremen could herald where Germany as a whole is heading in the coming days.

The seven-day infection rate in Bremen stood at 800 cases per 100,000 residents on Thursday, the highest in Germany and more than double the national rate of 303, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases.

“I assume that Bremen is just a little further ahead than other federal states,” said Hajo Zeeb of the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology in Bremen.

He said he expected many of Germany’s federal states to report infection rates similar to Bremen in the coming days.

Germany’s leaders are set to discuss how to respond to the Omicron variant later on Friday, with measures including shortening COVID-19 self-isolation periods over fears that critical services could grind to a halt as case numbers spike.

Bremen’s location near the Netherlands and Denmark, where Omicron has already become the dominant variant, could be one reason for the higher infection rate in the state, Zeeb said.

Omicron now accounts for more than 85% of coronavirus infections in Bremen, well above the national figure of around 44%, according to data from the RKI on Thursday.

Also, the city’s success in inoculating most of its residents early last year could be another reason.

“You have possibly now more of a vaccine gap than others who were a bit later (with the vaccination),” he said.

Studies have shown that protection against Omicron wanes over the course of several months and increases again following a booster shot.

Close to 84% of the population in Bremen, the smallest of Germany’s 16 federal states with fewer than 700,000 people, are double-vaccinated, compared with a national figure of around 72%. Some 44% have received a booster shot, compared with 42% nationally.

Bremen is also a somewhat more accurate representation of the actual figures in Germany because coronavirus testing there did not slow during the holiday season as it did in many other regions, Zeeb added.

Last week, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said the number of new cases had been under-reported and the actual incidence rate of infections was about two or three times higher than the officially reported figure.

The state’s government on Thursday introduced further restrictions to curb infections, including requiring a negative rapid test or proof of a booster shot to enter restaurants or cultural events, in addition to proving double-vaccination.

Despite the record infection rate in Bremen, the state’s hospitals were not as burdened as they were in the first three waves of the pandemic as patients infected with the new variant were coming in with milder symptoms, said Lukas Fuhrmann, spokesperson for Bremen’s health senate.

Doctors say the situation in hospitals could however soon worsen and that non-intensive care units were already overburdened with patients with milder lung symptoms.

The city of Bremen’s seven-day hospitalisation incidence was 13.6 cases per 100,000 people on Thursday, three times the national incidence of around 3.

“The situation is certainly a nightmare,” said Felix Diekmann, the medical director at St. Joseph-Stift hospital in Bremen. Although the situation is still manageable, the city might have to send COVID-19 patients to other states if it runs out of its intensive care beds, he said.

Germany: ‘Omicron will keep us busy for a long time to come’ – Scholz

SOT, Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor (German): “One thing is clear: the Omicron variant will keep us busy for a long time to come. That is why we cannot sound the all-clear for our health system. We will see – this must be said with all clarity – higher infection figures, and there will also be many new patients in the hospitals. Therefore, we have to prepare for this situation and we are doing so. We all know what helps: Besides the contact restrictions, which we still need to talk about, it’s about continuing to vaccinate and boost. The best protection against the omicron variant is booster vaccination. So it’s good that we have actually achieved the target we set ourselves last time, which was to reach 30 million vaccinations by Christmas. It is also good that we are working ambitiously on the next target, which is to organise the next 30 million booster vaccinations by the end of this month. All the vaccines we have today are helping and are good. This is especially true for the vaccine from Moderna and the one from BioNTech. Both are equally capable of protecting. We have a lot of them available, especially the Moderna vaccine. So I urge everyone to take this vaccine when it is available and get vaccinated accordingly. It helps against infection by the Omicron variant of the virus, and I think that is very, very important for all of us. Fresh vaccination still offers the best protection.”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz touted booster vaccine shots as the best defence against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, saying the mutation will ‘keep us busy for a long time to come’ during a speech in Berlin, on Friday.

“We all know what helps: Besides the contact restrictions, which we still need to talk about, it’s about continuing to vaccinate and boost. The best protection against the omicron variant is booster vaccination,” said the German Chancellor who lauded both Moderna and BioNTech vaccines as viable options in fighting the variant.

The omicron variant of the COVID-19 has led to a big spike in cases worldwide. On Thursday, the country alone recorded 64,340 new coronavirus infections, according to the Robert Koch Institute. The COVID-related death toll is 113,368.

The first man in Britain to catch a potentially deadly form of bird flu has told of his loneliness in isolation after his flock of ducks was culled.
Alan Gosling, 79, is believed to have caught the H5N1 strain of avian influenza from the 160 Muscovy birds living around his home in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

On 17 and 18 December 2021, a few hundred dead knots (Calidris canutus) were discovered on Schiermonnikoog and in Oost-Groningen. At the behest of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) examined a few dead knots, an oystercatcher, and a curlew who were found in the same location. The avian influenza H5N1 virus was detected in the birds examined. It is suspected to be the highly pathogenic variant, but this is under further investigation.

Bird flu at Friesland poultry farm takes cull total to 800,000
    https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2022/01/bird-flu-at-friesland-poultry-farm-takes-cull-total-to-800000/
Some 177,000 chickens have been culled in the latest outbreak of a highly contagious bird flu strain at a poultry farm in Blija in Friesland. Another 45,000 chickens at a farm 100 metres away and owned by the same farmer, were also killed as a preventive measure by Dutch food safety authority NVWA. Three poultry farms within three kilometres of the stricken farms are being monitored and all movements to and from 10 other farms within a 10 kilometre range have been banned. The outbreak started at an organic poultry farm in Zeeland in October last year and was preceded by reports of a rise in dead wild birds.

Dead birds raise bird flu concerns in Dutch nature reserve
    https://nltimes.nl/2022/01/07/dead-birds-raise-bird-flu-concerns-dutch-nature-reserve
Several dead water birds have been found in Oostvaardersplassen, raising concerns about bird flu in the nature reserve, forest ranger Hans-Erik Kuypers said to NOS. The cause of the birds’ death is not yet clear. They’re being examined in Lelystad.
In addition to the dead birds, rangers also noticed geese acting oddly. Usually, these birds stay in large groups. But rangers have spotted loners who don’t take flight when approached. According to Kuypers, this could indicate that the birds are weak and may have a bird flu infection.
So far, the dead birds have only been found in an area off-limits to visitors. Nevertheless, forestry service Staatsbosbeheer warns visitors to stay away from animals and definitely keep their distance from dead or weakened animals. Dog owners are also urged to keep their dogs on leash. According to Kuypers, dogs can become seriously ill if they have contact with animals that have bird flu.

  6. The new bird flu poses a higher risk of spreading to humans – director of animal health
    https://canada.on-24.com/health/57380.html
A wave of bird flu in Asia and Europe has a greater risk of spreading to humans due to high number of variants, the World Organization for Animal Health has said (GOOSE).
The spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, has raised concerns among governments and the poultry industry after previous outbreaks led to the culling of tens of millions of birds and trade restrictions.
“This time the situation is more difficult and risky as we see more variants emerging, which makes them more difficult to follow,” OIE Director General Monique Eloit told Reuters in an interview on Wednesday.
“Ultimately the risk is that it mutates or mixes with a human influenza virus that can be transmitted between humans and then suddenly it takes on a new dimension,” she added.
Fifteen countries had reported outbreaks of avian influenza in poultry between October and the end of December, mainly the H5N1 strain. Italy has been the most affected in Europe with 285 outbreaks and nearly four million birds slaughtered, according to OIE data.
Outbreaks usually start in the fall, when the infection is spread by migrating wild birds.
H5N1 is one of the rare strains of avian influenza transmitted to humans. In total, around 850 people are believed to have been infected with the strain, half of whom have died, the OIE said.
Over the past year, several people have been infected with the H5N6 strain in China, raising concern among some experts, who say a strain that was previously circulating appears to have changed and could be more infectious to humans.
Eloit stressed, however, that most countries had learned to contain epidemics and that transmissions to humans would be sporadic, as avian influenza is usually transmitted through close contact.
“If there are one, two or three infected humans it is worrying but we must not cry wolf too quickly about the risks of extension. It will depend on how people got infected, ”she said.

    • Alternately, remove all the sticky fingers on the Bible that tried to bury the message of “repent, and see the peace of heaven, is near.’

These original “fishers of men,” ‘followers of the way’ ‘born again,’ ‘judge not, lest you judged,’ ‘turn the other cheek’; had an attitude of how to pray: ‘forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us’ in that they stopped playing messengers of god. Looking for the sick and the lost.

Oh, but they had a Damascusexual on their tail.

A Jesus Smollett didn’t need to repent. No narrow way for him. He personally witnessed,Jesus in the Spirit – but nobody else saw, though they were around him.

St Paul taught, Jesus rose spiritually from the dead. Definitely not in his body. No resurrecting dead gut-bacteria as Born Again microbes.

“So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.”

But all this to avoid John The Baptist’s, dying to yourself to be released and set free .

This baptism, in a public show of repentance, and to seek and you shall find – the truth about yourself. The always answered prayer. .But he was not walking this path because Jesus did this for All Mankind so he didn’t have to. He got membership. Promised to be loyal to the cause, until the Last Day. Endurance in a girdle. His churches backsliding in their cloisters. Because it doesn’t work.

Alas, those who came after him, had Jesus munching on a fish. ‘Punching a man in the face if he insulted his mamma.’ became their faith.

“As we gradually abolish Christianity, we will also gradually destroy much ordinary human decency…”

The presentation by Neil Oliver on GB TV questioning if Build Back Better” is a conspiracy.

No. Politicians are magpies for anything that will make them look effective.

On this actual proposed infrastructure after a disaster….
      “3. Conclusion
In theory, “build back better” is a desirable goal, but numerous experiences have proved that it is easier said than done. This paper was written to summarize the research on BBB produced since the approach was promoted during the second anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. It is hoped that this summary will be useful both to those who are just starting to be engaged in this topic and to those who had been actively helping in exploring and developing it since 2006.”
