Reader’s Links for January 5, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. This will cheer Vlad up after reading about Fauci:

Dr. Robert Malone comments on Dr. Fauci, clinging to the myth that cloth masks still work:

“Tony has no integrity; he lies all the time, and me and my peers have been watching this for decades. We just shrug our shoulders and shake our heads and say, ‘It’s Fauci’ ”

    Video on Ingraham tonight:

    • They’ve been watching this for decades and done nothing. Full well knowing the damage this was inflicting. This is ghastly. Where was Malone’s integrity all those years? How could he just shrug it off and think that was ok?

    • When there is no ‘pandemic’, it is easy to shrug things off as Fauci did not have the influence he does now. Not seeing the danger is human.

Now, when things matter, Dr. Malone is speaking out – regardless of the danger to himself and his family.

      Credit where credit is due.

NEW – Emmanuel Macron denounced France’s 5 million unvaccinated as “non-citizens” and vows: “I really want to piss them off. And so we will continue to do so, to the bitter end.

    That’s the strategy.” (Le Parisien)

We are at a loss for words to comment on this kind of rhetoric. Even after we have slept on it for a night.

    ==================================

NYT -Macron draws fire for saying France should make life miserable for the unvaccinated.

President Emmanuel Macron of France drew fierce criticism on Wednesday after bluntly arguing that the government should make life miserable for the unvaccinated, as skyrocketing infection rates have put him under pressure to rein in the coronavirus pandemic ahead of a key presidential election.

“I really want to piss off the unvaccinated,” Mr. Macron said in an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien. “And so we are going to continue doing that, until the end.”

Mr. Macron said that those who had refused coronavirus vaccines were part of a small minority. About three-quarters of France’s 67 million people are fully vaccinated, but roughly five million French people have not received a single shot.

“I’m not going to put them in prison,” he said. “I’m not going to vaccinate them by force.”

Instead, the government is pushing a bill through Parliament that will tighten the eligibility of France’s health pass by no longer allowing people to obtain one with negative tests. The pass grants access to restaurants, cafes, museums and other public spaces.

Once the bill is approved, only proof of vaccination — or, in some cases, of recovery from Covid-19 — will be accepted, effectively barring the unvaccinated from large sections of French social life.

France has seen record-breaking numbers of new confirmed cases almost every day over the past week — over 270,000 for Tuesday alone — and hospitalizations are steadily increasing. But unlike some of its European neighbors, France has balked at imposing restrictions like curfews or lockdowns to keep infection rates in check.

Mr. Macron has consistently made it clear that his government’s strategy was to make life for unvaccinated French people uncomfortable. But his comments, which were published late Tuesday on the newspaper’s website, marked the first time he stated so in such a crude way, even as the rapid surge of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is already fraying France’s social contract on Covid.

Mr. Macron’s comments quickly caused an uproar in Parliament, interrupting a session where lawmakers were debating the government’s vaccination bill. Reaction from his political opposition was swift.

Christian Jacob, the head of the right-wing Republicans party, told lawmakers that the comments were unbecoming of a French head of state. “I cannot support a bill whose only goal is to piss off the French,” he said.

Marine Le Pen, the far-right leader and one of Mr. Macron’s main opponents in the upcoming election, accused him of “waging war” on the unvaccinated.

“Even if one doesn’t share their choice, they have broken none of our country’s laws,” she told reporters in Parliament late Tuesday, saying Mr. Macron had made a political and moral mistake. “He is continuing his policy of division, of pitting the French against one another,” she added.

Mr. Macron’s comments come in a heated political climate — less than four months before the presidential election — and after he vowed in a recent interview that he had learned from mistakes made earlier in his term, when his one-liners were regularly criticized as dismissive and out of touch.

The president’s opponents have maneuvered in Parliament to delay the passing of the vaccination bill, and his supporters have reported receiving death threats and insults because they are backing the legislation. One lawmaker’s home garage was the target of arson and hostile graffiti last month.

Stéphane Séjourné, a member of the European Parliament and close ally of Mr. Macron’s, defended the president’s comments, arguing on Twitter that it was the unvaccinated who were bothering the French by overburdening hospitals, exhausting health workers and “forcing the rest of the population to endure restrictions.”

“So yes, we have to piss them off in return,” he said.

Associated Press – With salty language, Macron berates France’s unvaccinated

[…]Macron has provoked outcries in parliament and protests from election rivals by using a vulgarity to describe his strategy for pressuring vaccine refusers to get coronavirus jabs.

Macron used the French word “emmerder,” rooted in the French word for “crap” and meaning to rile or to bug, in an interview published by French newspaper Le Parisien on Tuesday night. The president made the explosive remark as lawmakers are heatedly debating new measures that would allow only the vaccinated to enjoy leisure activities such as eating out.

“The unvaccinated, I really want to bug them. And so we will continue doing so, to the end. That’s the strategy,”
    […]

Macron’s health minister, Olivier Veran, sought to defend the president’s choice of words. Veran said Macron’s interview demonstrated his “intention, above all, to protect the population.”

Critics accused Macron of behavior unbecoming a president and of targeting the unvaccinated to win support from the 90% of French adults who are fully vaccinated. Opposition lawmaker Sebastien Jumel said Macron “deliberately chose to add hysteria to the debate.”

But Macron’s frustration with the non-vaccinated and critics’ complaints about his salty language dominated French news bulletins Wednesday. Macron came down particularly hard on people who are anti-vaccination, as opposed to simply unvaccinated, saying: “An irresponsible person is no longer a citizen.”

[…]Macron’s supporters suggested the president simply expressed out loud what some vaccinated people already think about the non-vaccinated, in a country with bitter divides over the issue.

  4. We knew it was only a matter of time before “WOKE NASCAR” went after the “Let’s Go Brandon” driver, Brandon Brown.

It all started when Brown announced he was finally embracing the “Let’s Go Brandon” moniker. He said that a new Crypto Currency named after the phenomenon, called “LGBcoin” would be his new sponsor.

As far as the NASCAR fan base goes, it was a smart move by Mr. Brown. NASCAR fans are traditionally Trump supporters and Joe Biden-haters, so it only makes sense to embrace the nationwide phenomena.

But NASCAR, who’s more concerned about being “progressively woke,” doesn’t feel the same way.

After reportedly giving the “OKAY” on the deal behind the scenes, NASCAR officials are now singing a different tune.

  5. Start by reading this story, “Indiana life insurance CEO says deaths are up 40% among people ages 18-64.” Read the whole thing now.

Here’s the link to the video from the CEO.

Note: In the event this story “disappears” from view, I kept a backup. You can’t be too careful nowadays.

This is big. Really big. And I’m not the only one that thinks so.

    Key points:

Deaths among 18-64 year-olds (who don’t normally die) are up by 40% in 2021 vs. pre-pandemic levels

This is huge. HUGE. They’ve never seen anything like this before in their history. Normally death rates don’t change at all. They are very stable. It would take something REALLY BIG to have an effect this big. The effect size is 12-sigma. That is an event that would happen by pure chance every 2.8e32 years (as shown in the image below). That’s very rare. It’s basically never. The universe is only 14 billion years old which is 1.4e13. In other words, the event that happened is not a statistical “fluke.” Something caused a very big change.

  7. The Biden administration wants to pay doctors to create office “anti-racism plans” that could soon bring full-blown critical race theory into your examining room.

What’s that you say? You didn’t hear about congressional legislation to that effect? That’s because there’s no such law. Rather, the idea was pushed quietly into implementation by the blob-like federal bureaucracy that exercises primary control over the details and minutia of federal law.

Despite what you may have been taught in high school government class, federal statutes don’t provide the specifics that will apply once a measure becomes law. Instead, legislation merely establishes a skeleton outline, usually directing the secretary of this or that department to write the details after the measure has been approved through the arcane rule-making process. In other words, the contemporary administrative state run by the executive branch has substantial quasi-legislative authority that was never dreamed of by our Founding Fathers.

There are few limitations to rulemaking other than that the regulation must be relevant to and consistent with the governing statute. But laws are often so vaguely written that doing so isn’t difficult. Moreover, the promulgated rules are where the devil in the details of federal law is to be found.

How do we know what has been proposed or promulgated by the bureaucrats? All rules—whether preliminary or finalized—are published in a gargantuan volume called the Federal Register (FR).

  8. Iran believes that maneuvering missiles, drones will evade air defense

The Islamic Republic is seeking to improve its missile and drone capability to tap into the latest technology from Russia and China and learn how to get around the latest air-defense systems, according to Iranian military analysts who were cited in a long article published by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency….

Iran’s interest here is in learning from Chinese military technology. It openly says the Chinese have moved in the direction of HGV [Hypersonic Gliding Vehicles] projectiles; Iran likely wants the same weapons.

Tehran and Beijing recently signed a 25-year cooperation agreement. This may not involve missiles yet, but Iran could be seeking more technology from North Korea, China and Russia in the coming years….

Overall, the point of this latest report was to raise the curtain on Iran’s strategy. More missiles, more drones and better precision, combined with maneuvering missiles, precision-guided munitions and perhaps a decision to look into glide vehicles and new technologies with China or Russia, means that air defenders in the region will need to up their game against these increasingly dangerous Iranian threats.

  9. Unsurprising, Kazakhstan leader is pulling from the authoritarian playbook, especially one used by Ankara’s regime, claiming protesters are “terrorists,” looks like will invite foreign troops from Russia to intervene

It’s clear that all the authoritarian regimes, from Russia to Turkey, Iran and China would be wary of any protests in Kazakhstan, it could jeopardize their plans for Central Asia after the US left Kabul; the goal is a swath of authoritarianism to challenge US and West.

It’s unfortunate of course because protesters from Iran to Turkey and other places have risked a lot over the last years…but they stand little chance. UN “human rights” council is largely controlled by dictators who also influence many human rights groups too.

Major media is also influenced deeply by authoritarian regimes these days, internet shut off easily, big tech social media usually silences dissent, prefers the dictators…it’s kind of an impossible situation

It’s unfortunate but the era of protesters and ability of average people to change things is rapidly ending. Not so long ago it was different, but the acceleration of control of authoritarians with media-big-tech-regimes-censorship has meant it’s even harder for people to act.

  11. CBC – Passengers on Sunwing party plane could face jail time, thousands in fines

A group of Quebec influencers and reality show stars could be facing thousands of dollars in fines, after videos surfaced showing them partying without masks on board a Sunwing flight from Montreal to Cancun.

Images from the Dec. 30 flight showed passengers ignoring public health measures, jumping and dancing in the aisle, vaping and openly passing around a bottle of hard liquor on the plane. In one video, a person could be seen crowd-surfing while the plane was in the air.

The federal government released a statement Tuesday, saying the departments of Transport, Public Safety and Health have all launched investigations into the incident.

There could be fines of up to $5,000 from Transport Canada for each offence on board, it said.

Additional fines and even jail time could follow if passengers were found to be endangering others, or if they provide falsified information upon their return to Canada.

Trudeau calls flight ‘slap in the face’

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday he was “extremely frustrated” seeing the videos.

“It is a slap in the face to see people putting themselves, putting their fellow citizens, putting airline workers at risk by being completely irresponsible.”

He said Transport Canada is taking the situation “extremely seriously” and would be continuing its investigation.

CBC News reached out to several of the people seen on the flight, but has not yet received a response.

The plane was privately chartered by 111 Private Club, a promoter that organized the six-day, all-inclusive event in Cancun. In its advertising for the event, the promoter had claimed the plane would have a DJ.

James William Awad, who operates the company, tweeted Tuesday that the group “respected all instructions given by Sunwing” and that the alcohol was sold to them on board, calling the event a “success.”

He later posted another tweet, saying he is taking the matter “very seriously.”

“A simple party on a plane did all this buzz,” he wrote, noting he would “take a moment” to rethink everything.

    Return flights cancelled, denied boarding

Sunwing said it notified Transport Canada after holding its own investigation, saying “the behaviour of a group of passengers was unruly and contravened several [regulations].”

The group was scheduled to return to Montreal today. Sunwing said it reached out to the organizers with terms and conditions for them to board.

“Unfortunately, the group did not accept all of the terms,” it said in a statement to CBC News.

As a result, Sunwing cancelled the return flight. It said it would co-operate with Transport Canada’s “full investigation” into the matter.

Air Transat said in an Instagram post Wednesday that it became aware that some of the passengers were attempting to return to Canada on its flights.

“We confirm that they will be denied boarding,” it said.

Air Canada also said “to the extent that we can identify the passengers who were part of the group” it too would deny them boarding “to ensure the safety of other passengers and its crew.”

Behaviour posed danger to the plane, crew
Aviation experts say the behaviour on the plane was not only violating pandemic public health measures, but risked the safety and security of those onboard.

Mehran Ebrahimi, who heads an aerospace industry research unit at l’Université du Québec à Montréal, pointed to the vaping on board as an example.

“That could set off the fire alarms, which could be very dangerous. It would signal a fire aboard, and the captain wouldn’t know where it was from,” he explained.

“These people think because they paid, because they’re pseudo-influencers, they think they can do whatever they want,” Ebrahimi said.

According to the federal government’s statement about the flight, someone found guilty of endangering the lives of others and causing harm could face up to three years in prison and up to $1 million in fines.

Rena Kisfalvi, president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees local that represents about 1,000 Sunwing flight attendants, called for strict consequences.

“These passengers who do not comply [with regulations], will they be charged? Will they be denied boarding in the future? Are they being placed on a no-fly list?” she asked.

“Maybe we, as a government, need to take this step to tell the traveling public: ‘look, we’re serious here.’ ”

global news – Feds weighing fines after passengers ditch masks on Sunwing flight to Mexico

Federal ministers have called for an investigation into reports of “unacceptable” behaviour on a recent Sunwing Airlines flight from Montreal to Cancun, Mexico.

Videos of the Dec. 30 flight shared on social media appear to show passengers not wearing masks as they gather in close proximity, singing and dancing in the aisle and on seats.

In one video, a large bottle of vodka appears to be passed among passengers, and later a woman appears to be smoking an electronic cigarette on the plane.

According to reports, the plane had been chartered and some of the passengers were cast members from Quebec reality television shows.

“I have asked Transport Canada to investigate the matter,” Alghabra wrote in a post on Twitter. “We must take the risks of COVID seriously!”

[…]In a joint statement Tuesday, Alghabra, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos and Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino, said that if Transport Canada determines that non-compliance with regulations and requirements has occurred, fines of up to $5,000 per offence could be issued to passengers.

“When endangering the lives of others and causing harm, a traveller could be subject to up to three years in prison and/or up to $1 million in fines,” the ministers said.
