The Greater London Hockey Association (GLHA) would like to extend a sincere thank you to our extended hockey family. Because of your care and attention to our safety protocols, we continue to enjoy the 2021/2022 season with minimal interruption in play. As many of you are aware, when the 2021/2022 season began, GLHA mandated vaccination for all eligible players, in keeping with recommendations provided by the local Public Health Units. This requirement was extended to 12-year old’s when Health Canada expanded vaccine eligibility and was reinforced when local Public Health Units required all individuals 12 years and older to be vaccinated in order to enter arenas.
In recent weeks Health Canada has extended vaccine eligibility again, opening up COVID-19 immunization to any child over the age of 5. GLHA welcomes this announcement and is pleased to know that many of our 5-11 year old players stepping on the ice today have already received their first dose. We believe vaccination will continue to help keep our kids safe and we hope will allow our players to remain on the ice for the rest of the season.
In keeping with GLHA’s position on immunization at the start of the 2021/2022 season and with support from the Middlesex London Health Unit, GLHA will be expanding our vaccination requirements to the 5 -11 year old age group. We ask parents of players 5-11 years of age to ensure their child receives his/her first dose of COVID-19 vaccination before January 15, 2022.
