Reader’s Links for November 23, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Someone was saying that Pelosi and her husband are worth $250 million. Made their money from insider trading.
They say buy the shares that she buys and you will have phenomenal returns.

      • Guessing that by the time we know about it, its too late.

She made a ton of cash on Amazon when she and the House all started the first lock down but said people could buy there.

I can’t remember if the stock peaked before we found out though. But for 100% its how she got rich. Worse than insider trading, its creating the conditions where some businesses succeed.

  1. From february, not sure if it appeared on this blog though:

Saudi de facto ruler approved operation that led to Khashoggi’s death – U.S
    https://www.reuters.com/article/usa-saudi-khashoggi-int-idUSKBN2AQ2OA
Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler approved an operation to capture or kill murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, according to U.S. intelligence released on Friday as the United States imposed sanctions on some of those involved but spared the crown prince himself in an effort to preserve relations with the kingdom.
Khashoggi, a U.S. resident who wrote opinion columns for the Washington Post critical of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s policies, was killed and dismembered by a team of operatives linked to the prince in the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul.
The Saudi government, which has denied any involvement by the crown prince, issued a statement rejecting the U.S. report’s findings and repeating its previous statements that Khashoggi’s killing was a heinous crime by a rogue group.
U.S. President Joe Biden tried to make clear that killings of political opponents were not acceptable to the United States while preserving ties to the 35-year-old crown prince, who may rule one of the world’s top oil exporters for decades and be an important ally against common foe Iran.
In a television interview on Friday, Biden said he told Saudi King Salman that Saudi Arabia has to tackle human rights abuses as a precondition to dealing with the United States.
“(I) made it clear to him that the rules are changing and we’re going to be announcing significant changes today and on Monday,” Biden said on Spanish language network Univision.
Among the punitive steps the United States took on Friday, it imposed a visa ban on some Saudis believed involved in the Khashoggi killing and placed sanctions on others, including a former deputy intelligence chief, that would freeze their U.S. assets and generally bar Americans from dealing with them.
U.S. officials also said they were considering cancelling arms sales to Saudi Arabia that pose human rights concerns and limiting future sales to “defensive” weapons, as it reassesses its relationship with the kingdom and its role in the Yemen war.
“We assess that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman approved an operation in Istanbul, Turkey to capture or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi,” the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in the four-page report.

      Self-castration has taken many forms.

“However, one of the lesser-known rules that the bishops enacted at the Council [at Nicaea] was to ban men who had castrated themselves from being in the clergy. Because, apparently, self-castration had become something of a fad among early Christians. Enough so that the bishops felt the need to put an official stop to the practice.”

“For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb; and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men; and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.”

“Most interpreters of the Bible, ancient and modern, argue that when Jesus used the word ‘eunuch’ he meant it as a synonym for ‘celibacy’. Apparently this was a common use of the term ‘eunuch’ in the ancient world.

Nevertheless, he used the term eunuch. So some early Christians decided the passage should be taken literally. In which case, Jesus seemed to be saying that, while self-castration was not appropriate for all men, for an elite few it was an ideal to strive for. Inspired by this passage, a number of men “took the sickle and cut off [their] private parts.”
      https://www.weirduniverse.net/blog/comments/self_castration_in_early_christianity

Whereas, I would read this passage as a separation made from birth, social and conscious. To be consciously detached from the flagellations of those engrossed with the matters of Heaven and Earth that will pass away.

      • The cruelest cut [shudder].
It was not just early Christianity. The Vatican had eunuch choirboys for centuries.

      • Lots of problems from translation errors – compounded over several languages. Then collation and editing – “literal” intrepretation of Christian Scripture becomes problematic.

        ex.: “a young girl” => “a virgin”

        Malca knows more about this~

        • I’ve heard that before. A better translation would be ‘maid’ or ‘maiden’ as I recall.

      • Castration is explicitly forbidden in the Torah. Jesus was a Rabbi who re-framed Torah, he didn’t trash it!

Only a wicked pervert could make such assertions and put them in the mouth of JoN !

  3. This will probably be my last post about the recent riots in the Netherlands.
Anybody who still believes these were concerned citizens fighting for their rights, or that the violence was spontaneous, must be deluded:

A 33-year-old Rotterdammer is suspected by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) of attempted manslaughter. He would have wanted to hit an agent with an iron bar during the riots in Rotterdam last Friday, the Public Prosecution Service reported on Tuesday.

Three other suspects have also been charged.
A 19-year-old Schiedammer and a 29-year-old Rotterdammer who are suspected of throwing objects at the police, will also be detained for fourteen days longer.
A 23-year-old resident of Dordrecht has been released.
He is still suspected of throwing objects at the police.

More arrests in fourth night of disturbances after Rotterdam riots

Police arrested over 30 people in a fourth night of disturbances on Monday night, but there was no trouble in the big cities.

At the weekend, the trouble spread to The Hague, Roosendaal, Urk and other towns and there were still minor disturbances on Monday night. In some cases, the violence appeared to have been very well organised, the minister said. ‘Sometimes it involved organised groups of adults, but there are also minors among the people who have been arrested,’ he said.

Police arrest over 170 linked to weekend riots; King meets with first responders
    https://nltimes.nl/2021/11/23/police-arrest-170-linked-weekend-riots-king-meets-first-responders
The police arrested a total of 173 people in connection with riots over the weekend. Caretaker Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus (Justice) wrote that “many arrests” will follow in a letter to parliament. According to Grapperhaus, swift justice is being used, and the damages will be recovered from the perpetrators.
    [..]
On Saturday and Sunday, there were riots in The Hague, Katwijk, Bunschoten, and Urk, among others. According to Grapperhaus, these disturbances are “apparently” the result of “highly organized violence” and probably have nothing to do with social or political discontent. Minors also participated in these organized riots. “You do not demonstrate by force. This has nothing to do with demonstration.”
Caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte spoke out against the riots on Monday. “This is pure violence under the guise of demonstrating.”
King Willem-Alexander visited Rotterdam on Monday and talked with police officers, firefighters, and paramedics deployed on Friday. At the meeting in the town hall, the King expressed his thanks to the first responders “on behalf of 90 percent of Netherlands residents that think this is unacceptable.”

  4. An analysis of the Rotterdam riots last Friday. It’s a longread:

    Why Rotterdam erupted
The violent Covid riots were about more than hooliganism
    https://unherd.com/2021/11/why-rotterdam-erupted/
According to the latest reports, it seems that rioters in Rotterdam were made of a number of disparate groups, motivated for a range of reasons. Football hooligans, young men with nothing to do, harbour workers with low wages and job security, and those suffering from the national shortage of decent housing were all ripe for civil disobedience. As MP Attje Kuiken says: “It’s a poisonous cocktail.”
    [..]
As in many other Western countries, there is a deep polarisation in Dutch society, and increasing distrust in politicians.

  5. In German, english text comes from google translate:

November 22, 2021 More than 50 knife attacks a day in Germany
    https://jungefreiheit.de/politik/deutschland/2021/messerangriffe-2020/
German police authorities recorded around 20,000 knife attacks last year. That is an average of more than 50 attacks per day. The highest number, at 5,411, is in North Rhine-Westphalia, as a query from Welt am Sonntag showed to the interior ministers of the federal states.
In second place comes Berlin with 2,593 knife attacks. In Lower Saxony there were 2,377. Only the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania did not provide any figures. In total , at least 100 people died in such incidents.
A nationwide number of knife attacks in Germany is not yet available because, according to the Federal Criminal Police Office, there is a lack of “valid data”. The introduction of this category in crime statistics was decided in 2019.
    Foreigners are disproportionately represented
Ten of the 16 federal states provided information about the origin of the perpetrators. Around 60.4 percent of the suspects have a German passport. A possible migration background was not given. About 39.6 percent are nationals of other countries.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, foreigners made up 12.5 percent of the total population in Germany last year. As a result, they are disproportionately represented in the knife attacks.
    Most suspects are from Syria
A share of 17.4 percent was accounted for by immigrants who were staying illegally in the Federal Republic or who had protection status. According to information from several federal states, most of the suspects came from Syria.
At the beginning of November, a Syrian stabbed passengers indiscriminately with a jackknife on an ICE between Nuremberg and Regensburg, injuring four people, some seriously. After the crime, the police found propaganda video by the terrorist organization “Islamist State” on the man who came to Germany in 2014 and does not rule out an Islamist motive.

  6. Turkish Lira’s Historic Crash: Here’s Why Inflation And Erdogan’s Interest Rate Disdain Have Pummeled Turkey’s Currency
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/sergeiklebnikov/2021/11/23/turkish-liras-historic-crash-heres-why-inflation-and-erdogans-interest-rate-disdain-have-pummeled-turkeys-currency/
    [..]
Though higher rates are used to curb inflation, Erdogan has long expressed contempt for interest rates, which have fallen from 20% to 15% after the recent rate cuts, and has even called them the “mother and father of all evil” because they stave off economic growth.
In a statement Thursday morning, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey said it had no commitment to exchange rates and blasted the lira’s plunging value as “unrealistic and completely detached from economic fundamentals,” saying it would only intervene in the event of “excessive volatility.”
    KEY BACKGROUND
Plagued by years of unorthodox monetary policy, Turkey’s ailing lira has erased nearly 70% of its value, relative to the dollar, over the last five years. The troubles at first culminated with a steep depression in 2018, when shares of the nation’s financial institutions plunged by nearly half as the falling lira deteriorated corporate earnings. Though the lira’s value remained fairly steady for years thereafter, it’s once again fallen in turmoil amid Erdogan’s efforts to lower interest rates this year. Erodgan went as far as abruptly firing three senior central bank officials last month because they raised rates to help control inflation. Now faced with lower interest rates, the lira has plunged another 40% this year, making it the worst-performing currency in the world.
    CHIEF CRITIC
“This irrational experiment, which has no chance of success, must be abandoned immediately,” Semid Tumen, a former Turkish central bank official whom Erdogan dismissed last month, said Tuesday on Twitter. “We must return to quality policies which protect the Turkish lira’s value and the prosperity of the Turkish people.”
    [..]
