Reader’s Links for November 3, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Covid-19: Researcher blows the whistle on data integrity issues in Pfizer’s vaccine trial

n autumn 2020 Pfizer’s chairman and chief executive, Albert Bourla, released an open letter to the billions of people around the world who were investing their hopes in a safe and effective covid-19 vaccine to end the pandemic. “As I’ve said before, we are operating at the speed of science,” Bourla wrote, explaining to the public when they could expect a Pfizer vaccine to be authorised in the United States.1

But, for researchers who were testing Pfizer’s vaccine at several sites in Texas during that autumn, speed may have come at the cost of data integrity and patient safety. A regional director who was employed at the research organisation Ventavia Research Group has told The BMJ that the company falsified data, unblinded patients, employed inadequately trained vaccinators, and was slow to follow up on adverse events reported in Pfizer’s pivotal phase III trial. Staff who conducted quality control checks were overwhelmed by the volume of problems they were finding. After repeatedly notifying Ventavia of these problems, the regional director, Brook Jackson, emailed a complaint to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Ventavia fired her later the same day. Jackson has provided The BMJ with dozens of internal company documents, photos, audio recordings, and emails.
    Poor laboratory management

On its website Ventavia calls itself the largest privately owned clinical research company in Texas and lists many awards it has won for its contract work.2 But Jackson has told The BMJ that, during the two weeks she was employed at Ventavia in September 2020, she repeatedly informed her superiors of poor laboratory management, patient safety concerns, and data integrity issues. Jackson was a trained clinical trial auditor who previously held a director of operations position and came to Ventavia with more than 15 years’ experience in clinical research coordination and management. Exasperated that Ventavia was not dealing with the problems, Jackson documented several matters late one night, taking photos on her mobile phone. One photo, provided to The BMJ, showed needles discarded in a plastic biohazard bag instead of a sharps container box. Another showed vaccine packaging materials with trial participants’ identification numbers written on them left out in the open, potentially unblinding participants. Ventavia executives later questioned Jackson for taking the photos.

  7. CNBC – Pfizer CEO is ‘optimistic’ on Covid vaccine for kids under age five

Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla joins ‘The Exchange’ with his outlook on the FDA’s approval of Pfizer’s vaccine for children.

He also discusses the possibility of a vaccine for kids under age 5
    —————————-

“Our studies are ongoing, and we expect that we will have a readout on the efficacy likely before the end of the year,” Bourla said.

“If the studies are positive and have high efficacy, we already approved an investment of a billion dollars in late summer and already are manufacturing at risk,” he said. “We will have quantities even this year, if we are successful.”

Bourla’s comments came after Pfizer posted stronger-than-expected quarterly reports earlier in the day. The company also raised its full-year sales guidance on its Covid vaccine by 7.5%.

In its earnings conference call, Bourla said Pfizer has the capacity to make 4 billion vaccine doses next year and already has orders for 1.7 billion doses.

Bourla said he hopes lower-income countries will place orders because the company will charge them much less than middle and higher-income countries.

    • global news – COVID-19: Quebec drops vaccination mandate for health-care workers

Quebec is backtracking on its enforced COVID-19 vaccination mandate for health-care workers, government officials announced Wednesday.

After pushing back its deadline multiple times, Health Minister Christian Dubé said the province will abandon the measure altogether, as the health-care network can’t afford to lose the thousands of non-vaccinated employees.

The loss of unvaccinated staff would have had a “devastating effect on the system,” according to the health ministry.

The province’s plan to suspend unvaccinated workers as of Nov. 15 would have forced the health network to cut services and would have compromised efforts to improve working conditions for all employees.

While vaccination will no longer be mandatory for current employees, Dubé added that all new health-care hires will have to be vaccinated.

Unvaccinated staff will be obliged to get tested for COVID three times a week, and those who don’t comply will be suspended without pay.

The government had originally set an Oct. 15 deadline for all workers to be vaccinated but extended it in the hopes of convincing the remaining staff to get their shots.

ctv news – Vaccines won’t be mandatory for existing Quebec health-care workers, only new hires

[…]Instead of the previous plan, now only new hires will be required to be vaccinated, he said, though the province will try hard to replace those workers with vaccinated ones over time.

For now, those without vaccines will be subjected to a “rigorous” testing system, with three tests a week, Dubé said. Those who refuse the tests will be suspended without pay.

There will also be no COVID-19 bonuses or retention bonuses for the unvaccinated.

“To deprive ourselves of 8,000 people [in health staff ranks] will have devastating consequences for our network,” Dubé said.

Of those 8,000 unvaccinated staff, 5,000 have direct contact with patients, including 1,200 nurses and 1,300 orderlies, many working in nursing homes, Dubé said.

However, the province hopes to change their jobs to move them away from the most vulnerable patients.

[…]seniors will be getting booster shots to help protect their immunity, he said.

[…]In a final point, he said he expects things still to change over the coming months.

    • paul j watson – Archbishop Viganò Writes Stunning Letter on Vaccine Program

Slams Pope for promoting jabs which contain material from aborted fetuses.

Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has written a stunning letter to America’s bishops in which he makes several astounding claims about COVID-19 jabs and the Church’s role in promoting vaccines.

Viganò asserts that vaccines normally go through years of rigorous testing, and that the lack of such a process in the case of COVID-19 jabs represents public health authorities conducting “experimentation on the entire world population.”

The Archbishop referenced drug treatments that have proven effective in fighting COVID without the risks of vaccines, noting that such drugs have been discredited by global health bodies and the media.

“It must be reiterated that there are effective treatments which cure patients and allow them to develop permanent natural immune defenses, something that the vaccines do not do,” he wrote. “Furthermore, these treatments do not cause serious side effects, since the drugs that are used have been licensed for decades.”

“International standards specify that an experimental drug cannot be authorized for distribution except in the absence of an effective alternative treatment: this is why drug agencies in the USA and Europe have prevented the use of hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, hyper-immune plasma, and other therapies with proven effectiveness,” he added.

Viganò goes on to state that the vaccines proving ineffective in preventing people from getting and passing on the virus means they can’t even be called vaccines.

“In fact a “vaccine” is defined as a medicinal preparation aimed at inducing the production of protective antibodies by the organism, conferring specific resistance against a specific infectious disease (viral, bacterial, protozoal). This definition was recently changed by the WHO, because otherwise it would not have been able to include anti-Covid drugs, which do not induce the production of protective antibodies and do not confer a specific resistance against the SarsCoV-2 infectious disease.”

The Archbishop went on to assert it was a moral “duty” to refuse inoculation given what we now know about the vaccine program.

“Worldwide, the number of deaths and grave pathologies following vaccination is increasing exponentially: in only nine months these vaccines have caused more deaths than all vaccines in the last thirty years. Not only this: in many nations – such as Israel for example – the number of deaths after vaccination is now greater than the number of deaths from Covid.”

Viganò went to to assert it would be “immoral and unacceptable” for Catholics to take the vaccine given revelations by Pfizer executives that the jabs contain material from aborted fetuses.

The Archbishop expressed his fury at other members of the clergy and Pope Francis himself for facilitating a “crime against humanity” and “satanic action against God.”

Viganò pulled no punches in outlining the wider agenda at play.

“I realize that it may be extremely unpopular to take a position against the so-called vaccines, but as Shepherds of the flock of the Lord we have the duty to denounce the horrible crime that is being carried out, whose goal is to create billions of chronically ill people and to exterminate millions and millions of people, based on the infernal ideology of the “Great Reset” formulated by the President of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab and endorsed by institutions and organizations around the world.”

Viganò previously wrote to then President Donald Trump asserting that the COVID-19 pandemic is part of a plot to impose a “health dictatorship” and that Trump is “the final garrison” in stopping this agenda.

Last year, we also highlighted how Cardinal Raymond Burke warned that the COVID-19 pandemic is being exploited by proponents of “The Great Reset” to “advance their evil agenda.”

  8. Muslim population of Canada triples in 15 years

StatsCan said Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons and Baptists had the most regular attendance at group activities of any Canadians.

Islam is now the fastest-growing religion in the country, says Statistics Canada.

Blacklock’s Reporter says the Muslim population as a portion of the entire country has more than tripled since 1996 but remains outnumbered 9 to 1 by Catholics.

“The religious landscape in Canada has undergone significant changes,” analysts wrote in a report.

Statistics Canada said the impact was far-reaching.

“From a sociological standpoint, the study of the evolution of religion allows for a better understanding of some of the changes modern societies are facing,” said StatsCan.

“In addition, religion is important with respect to population change because it can influence important demographic factors such as marriage, divorce and fertility.”

The majority of Canadians surveyed, 68%, said they had some religious affiliation though fewer, 23%, regularly attended a church, temple, mosque or synagogue. Only 16% of Canadians attend weekly religious group activities like Mass, while 23% said they attended monthly.

“In recent decades there has been a decline in religious affiliation, participation in group or individual religious or spiritual activities, and the importance of religious and spiritual beliefs in how people live their lives,” wrote analysts.

From 1996 to 2019 figures on various religious groups’ share of the total population indicated:

    the proportion of Jewish Canadians declined from 1.1% to 1%;
    the Sikh population doubled from 0.7% to 1.4%;
    the Hindu population doubled from 0.5% to 1.7%;
the Muslim population tripled from 1.1% to 3.7%.

As late as 1985 there were so few Muslims in Canada the religion was categorized as “others” in a federal survey. The postwar population of Muslims was so small StatsCan’s predecessor agency, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics, deleted “Muslim” from its 1944 Census questionnaire.

Catholics remain the largest religious group in Canada at 32% of the population. Anglicans and United Church members account for a combined 8%

StatsCan said Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons and Baptists had the most regular attendance at group activities of any Canadians.

StatsCan in a 2017 report predicted dramatic changes in the country’s religious make-up by 2036. The proportion of Christians that averaged 90% in the 1981 Census and is currently 63%, is projected to fall to about 52%.

Canadian religious groups in 2036 would number 12.9 million Catholics, 5.4 million Protestants, 2.8 million Muslims, 1.2 million Hindus and 1.1 million Sikhs, said the report.

  9. CBC – Afghan refugees housed at quarantine hotels say they lack basics

Pre-departure interviews weren’t possible given ‘rapid’ and ‘volatile’ escape, federal government says

In a hotel parking lot not far from Toronto’s main international airport, several Afghan refugees dig through boxes and bags of donated clothes in the trunk of a car.

They’re looking for winter coats and shoes that might fit their children, and seasonally appropriate clothing for themselves. Many don’t have money to spare after arriving in Canada, and support payments from the federal government haven’t kicked in yet.

A settlement agency has been tasked with looking after them while they wait to be moved into more permanent housing but the refugees say many of their basic needs aren’t being adequately addressed.

“We don’t have enough clothes, enough boots,” says Sardar Khan Shinwari, who has been living in a hotel room with his wife and four children since mid-October.

“Right now my boots, they are size 11, and I wear size eight… I got them second-hand.”

Shinwari is among some 770 Afghan refugees currently housed in two hotels near the airport.

His family has completed the quarantine required by pandemic rules but they remain at the hotel, dependent on the settlement agency, as they wait for the federal government to process their applications and issue their permanent residency cards.

    ‘They don’t have anything’

Government workers provided some clothing at the airport, but it was ill-fitting, Shinwari says. Living in the hotel for an extended period has also meant the family has no access to laundry facilities or their own kitchen, and there are no nearby grocery stores or easily accessible playgrounds for the children, he says.

“We do the laundry (under) the shower because there isn’t any laundry machine,” says the 30-year-old, a former interpreter with the Canadian Armed Forces who made it past Taliban checkpoints into Pakistan before flying with his family to Toronto.

“All we see is buildings and parking lots here, so where we are going to go?”

The food provided also isn’t ideal, particularly for his children, Shinwari argues, and the settlement agency hasn’t provided adequate supplies for his one-month-old baby.

After the Taliban takeover, Afghans in Canada call on Ottawa not to let their country, families be forgotten

Yasmin Noori, a Toronto resident who brought over the donated clothing the Afghan refugees are sifting through, says the newcomers need winter gear as well as toys and strollers for their cooped up kids.

“They don’t have anything,” she says. “I saw the people wearing (summer) clothes with slippers, I felt so bad because the weather was so cold.”

Pre-departure interviews not possible given ‘volatile’ escape

Asadullah Rahimi, an Afghan refugee who is also staying at one of the hotels with his wife and six children, says not knowing when the settlement agency will move his family out of the hotel, or where they will be headed, is exacerbating the issues.

“We don’t have anyone to ask about our situation: Where do you want to go? What are you needing? What’s missing? What problem you have?” he says.

Online orientation sessions the settlement agency provided are not enough to educate the refugees about their choices in Canada or answer their questions, Rahimi argues.

“They are still telling me wait, just be patient,” he says. “There isn’t anyone to ask about the problems we have.”

A spokesman for the federal immigration minister says the process of choosing a final settlement location for the refugees usually involves interviews before they come to Canada to discuss their options, but that didn’t happen in these cases.

“Given the rapid and volatile nature of their escape from Afghanistan, this pre-departure interview wasn’t possible,” says Alexander Cohen.

The government is aiming to help the Afghan newcomers settle in areas where they have family, friends or community support, he says.

More experienced social workers being hired

Cohen added that ministry staff have been sent to the hotels hosting Afghan refugees but settlement agency workers are the ones dealing directly with the newcomers.

The executive director of Polycultural, the settlement agency tasked with providing services for the Afghan newcomers, says his organization’s ability to provide in-person services at the hotels is limited because of quarantine restrictions, but the agency is acting on the concerns raised.

“We keep taking all the feedback. People call it complaints, we call it feedback, and we are trying to make everybody happy,” says Marwan Ismail. “We are here to help the people.”

Ismail says his organization recently signed an agreement to provide laundry services to the Afghan newcomers, and has taken the clothing sizes of newcomers to get them donated winter clothing soon.

The organization has also changed its catering provider eight times in the last two months after complaints, he says, noting that providing meals that satisfy hundreds of people can be difficult.

The organization has faced challenges with the employees it rushed to hire to help the newcomers, Ismail says. It brought on 35 workers who speak Pashto and Dari, two major languages spoken in Afghanistan, but many don’t have enough experience with social work, he says.

“We were in a rush because everything happened in Kabul very quickly,” he says, referencing the Taliban’s swift takeover of the country. More experienced social workers are now being hired to provide better services, he says.

Ottawa has committed to resettling 40,000 Afghan refugees, with nearly 9,500 people approved so far and 3,260 now in Canada.
