Reader’s Links for October 29, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. If you managed a coup of your enemy’s King, and there was no uprising of your enemy’s populace, what would you do? Would you publicly proclaim victory to the world, or would you look to your fellow soldiers in amazement that you hadn’t been completely exposed, then quietly keep going, doing everything you could to ensure your full victory? If you were versed in the Art of War, you would continue. You would continue methodically dismantling and disabling your enemy’s defenses as quickly and quietly as possible, like bank robbers in a vault of gold who had not yet been discovered by the cops. Sure, a few alarms went off but you looked at each other in stunned amazement as the majority of the guards dismissed them as technical failings while admonishing the others who had noticed as paranoid. No way could anyone break in to our vault, they said, because we’ve never been ransacked and never will be. You saw your enemy’s normalcy biases holding fast, suppressing the revealing of your obvious intrusion. In fact you were agog at the spectacle of the vilification of every guard who pointed out your actions by the other guards who shouted there was nothing wrong here. You watched, then, as guards who pointed out your presence were imprisoned as traitors. This emboldened you even more, so you started tearing down the walls of your enemy’s castle, and even then the general population was not moved to action, for they were controlled and compromised, and the few enemy soldiers who remained ready to fight had become the enemy of your enemy. Beautiful, you thought.

      You don’t have to agree.

You don’t have to agree that the word that starts with the letter between “m” and “p” is offensive to black people. It might not be offensive to all or even most black people.

      • Well, this was an education, Yucki, and thanks for it.

Understanding better Remembering the Holocaust makes my understanding now more nuanced than most, I hope. Reich makes very fine points–not fine as in splitting hairs, but as in worthy.

I spoke about it with my son. His immediate response to this dilution of the Holocaust was, “So eventually it becomes ‘Jew-ish’,” which I thought pretty smart, and a quick grasp of the gist, for a kid.

There’s plenty of fodder for discussion here. I remember back in the 90’s the head Rabbi of New York, I think it was, told some rebellious members to settle down. We’re allowed to live our lives, he said, without too much hassle, so shut-up. His other point I guess was that demonstrations and complaining drew too much attention, and could inadvertently net greater anti-Semitism than previously existed. So in this sense it’s a matter of weighing the risks and rewards, to a degree. (Wish I could find the article.) And I think there was real wisdom in his sentiment.

For me it comes back, again, to picking one’s battles. The appropriation of Holocaust is absolutely protest worthy, but how many will really take the point to heart? I don’t know.

That the Nazis kept killing Jews even after the war was known by them to be lost said, and says, the most about this subject, and so I wish Reich had said it and not me. This point, alone, distinguishes the Holocaust. (Notice how I didn’t say the Jewish Holocaust?) It distinguishes the industrialization of hate, actually, against Jewish people in WW2. There. That says it best.

  3. ?Rittenhouse Defense at Pre-Trial Hearing – Important

The article is EXCELLENT. Goes into detail, background info about the legal process. The ins & outs of both the prosecution & defense. More logical & ethical rulings by Judge Schroeder!! This is a case worth watching because it will foreshadow what we could all face when (or if) it becomes necessary to defend ourselves from the likes of antifa & blm et al.
Comments are also excellent. A bit long but worth reading some vids too.

    Excerpt:
DEFENSE PERMITTED TO REFER TO “KYLE” IN FRONT OF JURY
Finally, the state asked Judge Schroeder to prohibit the defense from referring to their client as “Kyle”, and to require that everyone be referenced in a formal manner, such as “Mr. Rittenhouse,” “Mr. Grosskreutz,” and so forth.
The concern of the state, of course, is that referring to Kyle as “Kyle” may remind the jury of his youth—he was legally a child on the date in question—and garner him sympathy from the jury.

  5. “Biden team considering paying $450,000 to (each) illegal immigrants ‘”separated from families” at border”

Put your gun down (don’t want to accidently shoot your computer) and try to read calmly.
    EXCERPT:
According to reporting from the Wall Street Journal, roughly 940 families have filed claims, via the American Civil Liberties Union, against the US government for their “suffering.”
Some figures estimate that the average family claim consists of at least one adult and one child, and each individual could receive $450,ooo – meaning that the minimum amount of money that could be doled out would equal $846M.
Let me repeat that. The Biden administration wants to hand out at least $846M to individuals who entered our country illegally.
Other reports say that they ACLU is seeking roughly $3.4M per family affected. That math adds up to almost $3.2B.
Whether it is $846M or $3.2B, that is a lot of American tax dollars being spent to placate individuals who were breaking the law. And now the president and those who serve at his pleasure want to reward them.

    • Biden’s friendship toward Israel has always been conditional

No amount of eyewash about belief in bipartisan American support for the US-Israel alliance will be enough to cushion the damage an openly antagonistic administration could do.

[T]his week has brought a perfect storm of circumstances that threaten to complicate … hopes for a better relationship with the United States…

[T]he US administration issued blistering criticism concerning its renewed commitment to reopening a US consulate in Jerusalem and settlement building in the West Bank. Add to that the news that Iran is returning to nuclear talks in Vienna.

These were body blows to hopes that their ousting of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, viewed by Biden’s team as the devil incarnate, would ensure the president’s goodwill and protect them against the kind of hostility that was the hallmark of US attitudes toward Jerusalem the last time Democrats were in power….

[Biden] believes in applying “tough love” to naughty Israelis who need American guidance. Nor does Biden take kindly to criticism. His self-esteem is such that he regards challenges to his diktats as insults… If anything, Biden has grown even more thin-skinned since, as his consistently short-tempered responses to non-sycophantic questions from citizens and journalists alike have shown in the last two years….

While the three men at the top are conditional friends of Israel who think they should save the Jewish state from itself, Biden’s appointments at the next level of authority aren’t quite so affectionate….

[In fact they're ghastly. Plus he knows the Squad represents the future of his party.]

That means that any defiance of the administration from Israel will serve to provide an opportunity for the Left to become even more assertive in their attacks on Israel under the guise of a defense of the president.

It makes for a daunting prospect…

  6. Biden-Bennett dispute on Palestinians, settlements is really all about Iran – opinion

US President Joe Biden is braying about Jerusalem consulate, Palestinians and West Bank settlements mainly to force Prime Minister Naftali Bennett into submission about Iran.

Why would the Biden administration start bullying Israel about these matters now? Why bark about Jerusalem, Palestinians and settlements when even the most left-wing officials in the US administration know that the obstinate and corrupt PA deserves absolutely no awards from Washington and that there is no realistic peace process in the offing?

What advantage does Washington gain by talking-up a plan to reestablish the former US mission to the Palestinians on Agron Street (in western Jerusalem!) when it knows that this is an ultimate diplomatic insult to Israel and is a redline issue for Israelis across a broad Left-Right consensus?

Moreover, pushing this issue could bring down the Bennett-Lapid government, which replaced the Netanyahu governments the US administration was so happy to see go!

And why threaten to act with such diplomatic chutzpah when the Israeli government has the clear ability under international law to block the re-opening of this unconventional US mission in Jerusalem?

  7. America Furious About Israel’s Growth in the West Bank | Israel News

Antony Blinken, Ned Price and the rest of the American administration are all “deeply concerned” that Israel just approved 3,000 housing units for Israel’s settlements in Judea and Samaria. On today’s show we get a little fired up concerning why America feels that they have the right to intimidate Israel into getting their permission for everything they do.

The issue of the US reopening the American Consulate in Jerusalem is much deeper than just helping the Palestinians. It has to do with establishing a Palestinian state in Israel’s heartland, and keeping Israel’s sovereign capital divided, instead of united.

  8. Last Afghan Jew: Give me $10m to move to Israel or I’ll be going back home to Kabul

He is the last Jew of Afghanistan, who was rescued in a courageous humanitarian mission last month after the fall of Kabul to the Taliban.

But in a bizarre twist, according to his rescuer, Zebulon Simentov is refusing to go to Israel to make his home there unless he is first paid $10million – and he has warned he is otherwise ready to go back to Afghanistan.

After his rescue in September, Mr Simentov was flown to a country that has remained unnamed for security reasons. He is now in Istanbul, where he is staying in a hotel.

In an extraordinary phone conversation with his rescuer, Israeli humanitarian contractor Moti Kahana, he demanded the staggering sum, claiming he “lost a lot of money” in leaving Afghanistan, and also asked for additional cash to buy a winter coat.

  9. Woman now thought to be Afghanistan’s last Jew flees country

For years, Zebulon Simentov branded himself as the “last Jew of Afghanistan,” the sole remnant of a centuries-old community. He charged reporters for interviews and held court in Kabul’s only remaining synagogue. He left the country last month for Istanbul after the Taliban seized power.

Now it appears he was not the last one.
