Reader’s Links for October 2, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I wonder what “build back better” will look like for Melbourne. Economic carnage there right now, no end in sight.

  2. I have a ball
    A bouncy ball
It is red and white and blue
My friends all say just give it back
    “…it don’t belong to you.”
    “Finders keepers,” I retort
    “Besides it comes from God,”
“You’re the retort,” they shoot back,
    “He’s dead and under sod.”
So now I bounce my bouncy ball
    If just inside my head
I hope that they don’t find it here
‘Cause then I’ll be quite dead.

Biden’s bank overseer praised Soviet policies, called for ending banking ‘as we know it’

Soviet bread line, aka, the good old days

Saule Omarova was nominated by President Biden on Sept. 23 to oversee the nation’s biggest banks and federal savings associations, as the comptroller of the currency. She is a USSR-born and educated professor who praised the former Soviet Union’s pay policies. She recently called for ending banking “as we know it” by moving people’s accounts from private banks to the Federal Reserve.

“Biden’s nominee to regulate banks really, really hates . . . banks,” says the Wall Street Journal. Here “radical ideas might make even Bernie Sanders blush. She graduated from Moscow State University in 1989 on the Lenin Personal Academic Scholarship. Thirty years later, she still believes the Soviet economic system was superior, and that U.S. banking should be remade in the Gosbank’s image.”

    • global news – Quebec vaccine mandate deadline nears for health workers

Ontario, P.E.I., New Brunswick, Manitoba and Saskatchewan have COVID-19 vaccine mandates for health-care workers.

Employees who choose not to be vaccinated in those provinces can opt to be tested regularly, instead.

Those who refuse to get vaccinated in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Alberta and B.C. can be suspended or put on unpaid leave.

Quebec’s healthcare workers have until October 15 to get vaccinated against COVID-19, or they could lose their job.

  8. As a recent Nature journal piece notes, COVID-19 lockdowns have prepared people for “personal carbon allowances.” Restrictions on individual freedoms “that were unthinkable only one year before” have us “more prepared to accept the tracking and limitations” to “achieve a safer climate,” the piece notes.

And many self-professed defenders of our “democracy” have been clamoring for the Department of Health and Human Services to take unilateral action and treat climate as a “public health issue” or to declare a “climate emergency.” The White House has given the issue a required identity-based twist, noting that global warming’s risks “disproportionately affect poor and minority communities.” (Which reminds me of P.J. O’Rourke’s old joke about NPR coverage: “World To End — Poor and Minorities Hardest-Hit.”)

Americans experienced the authoritarian reach of government during the pandemic. We see what normalizing those ideas can look like in Australia.

Carbon emissions are embedded into nearly everything in our economy. If Democrats believe that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should be empowered to declare an eviction moratorium and unilaterally discard property rights, you can imagine what sort of things await this nation if they can declare climate change an “emergency.”

  10. Eindhoven terror suspects were out to get Rutte, Wilders and Baudet: Report
    https://nltimes.nl/2021/10/02/eindhoven-terror-suspects-get-rutte-wilders-baudet-report
Prime Minister Mark Rutte was the apparent target of a terrorist plot crafted by ISIS sympathizers, which prompted the arrests this week of nine men in Eindhoven. They were also considering attacks on PVV leader Geert Wilders and FvD leader Thierry Baudet, sources close to the investigation told De Telegraaf. They organized themselves with visits to a “training center” in the Noord-Brabant city, the newspaper quoted the Public Prosecution Service as saying.
The case is the second time in a week that a serious threat against Rutte was made known. Signals that organized crime figures cobbled together a plot to attack or abduct the prime minister led the government to increase his visible security detail significantly. Rutte himself reportedly balked at the idea of increasing his security.
The two threats are not connected, according to the De Telegraaf. Authorities have not yet revealed details of the alleged plot involving the Eindhoven group.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) identified the nine suspects as a group of jihadist sympathizers who support ISIS. They are all men between the ages of 18 and 31. Eight of the suspects were born in the Netherlands, and one was born in Afghanistan. The OM and the police consider the situation to be very serious, sources close to the investigation unit told the newspaper.
Peter Plasman, an attorney for two of the suspects in custody, said that his clients never actually developed a serious plot, and had no intention of carrying out an attack. They were only “being sarcastic, and they made terrible jokes.”
Serge Weening, a lawyer for two other suspects, complained that the OM is treating the men as if they were already convicted of a crime. “Everyone in the Netherlands now thinks that they have something to do with terrorism,” he told NOS.

Eindhoven terror suspects discussed AK-47 attack, beheading Geert Wilders: Report
    https://nltimes.nl/2021/10/02/eindhoven-terror-suspects-discussed-ak-47-attack-beheading-geert-wilders-report
Conversations intercepted by domestic intelligence service AIVD led to the arrests of nine men in Eindhoven on allegations that they planned to carry out a terrorist attack. The men, all Dutch citizens, discussed the possibility of targeting Prime Minister Mark Rutte, PVV leader Geert Wilders, FvD leader Thierry Baudet, and Health Minister Hugo de Jonge, according to an investigative report by RTL Nieuws.
The men were watching a Denzel Washington film, and had the discussion late at night on September 18, and into the early hours of the following morning, sources told the broadcaster.
Someone in the group reportedly said, “I will pop Rutte and Wilders in their heads, brother. And then my name will go into the history books, right?”
One person also suggested kidnapping Wilders, and live-streaming his murder. “Get Geert Wilders to say something. And then I’ll behead him, live, on Facebook.”
“Bro man, you just use an AK and pop him with his guards at a press conference, you know? You just yell, ‘Allahu Akbar’, … Just six bullets,” one suspect allegedly said. “Once you’re shooting, you don’t stop. You don’t stop and aim.”
A suspect also pointed out that Health Minister Hugo de Jonge “and the like have no security.”
They were arrested three days later. They suspects in age from 18 to 31. One was born in Afghanistan, while the other eight were born in the Netherlands, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) previously disclosed. The OM also said the men support jihadist ideology and sympathize with ISIS.
Lawyers for the suspects said the men were displaying a lewd sense of humor, and stated that the conversations do not demonstrate intent to perpetrate a terrorist attack. When written as text, the statements “seem very serious,” said attorney Serge Weening. However, the statements were made comically and with sarcasm, he
    continued.
“They are young boys together who say things that you should not say in public. But I am convinced that they absolutely did not want to commit an attack.” He added that the suspects are well-educated, with high school and university degrees, and they were shocked by the arrest.
“Initially they thought of a joke themselves. But I think there is a very big misunderstanding here,” he said.
The AIVD said the men watched a video about constructing bombs, and sang battle hymns in the car, RTL Nieuws reported. They also converted a garage into a small fitness room inspired by people training as jihadists.

  11. https://summit.news/2021/09/14/technocrats-want-mandatory-carbon-credit-cards-to-control-every-facet-of-your-life/

    …..
Technocrats are preparing “mandatory” personal carbon allowances that would introduce rationing into every area of your life via an app that would record your travel, heating expenses and even the food you eat.

    Yes, really.

The proposal was presented in the science journal Nature by four environmental “experts” as a means of reducing global carbon emissions.

Everyone would be issued with a ‘carbon allowance card’ “that would entail all adults receiving an equal tradable carbon allowance that reduces over time in line with national [carbon] targets.”

The authors make it clear that the program would be a “national mandatory policy.”

Carbon units would be “deducted from the personal budget with every payment of transport fuel, home-heating fuels and electricity bills,” and anyone going over the limit would be forced to purchase additional units in the personal carbon market from those with excess to sell.”…….

  12. https://www.activistpost.com/2021/09/traditional-buying-and-selling-may-soon-become-obsolete-without-biometric-verification.html

The dystopian future, where you can’t buy or sell without constantly being monitored and connected to databases containing your fingerprints, face scans, eye scans and more continues to rapidly leak into the present. The global engineers want humanity to go beyond being merely connected to the internet, they want each individual personally and intimately connected by unique bodily identifiers enabling the tracking of everything you do.

Zwipe, a technology company that creates self-contained biometric authentication solutions for payment cards and wearable devices is currently piloting a biometric payment card with an unnamed Tier 1 European bank with millions of clients across all continents. An article from FindBiometrics documents the rest of the story:

The actual pilot will be carried out in three countries in Europe, where the bank will issue biometric payment cards to a few hundred lucky cardholders in the first quarter of 2022. If that goes well, the bank plans to move forward with a full commercial launch of the biometric cards later in the summer of that year.

The cards themselves will feature Zwipe’s Pay ONE technology, which enables the use of fingerprint recognition to verify a cardholder’s identity during a transaction. In doing so, it allows payment providers to lift the payment cap on contactless transactions, and minimizes the need for physical contact with PIN pads and point-of-sale terminals during the pandemic.

Zwipe will start working with the bank and its card manufacturing partners within the month. The company believes that the cards will appeal to new and existing customers that are looking for a safe and convenient payment experience.

“We are thrilled that a Global Tier 1 bank has chosen Zwipe for their pilot and, potentially, for a commercial launch where the long-term potential could be significant,” said Zwipe CEO André Løvestam. “Besides the technology, Zwipe will also support the bank through all stages of the pilot, ensuring that all end users’ experiences and feedback are systematically captured.”

Zwipe is just one of many companies working on “solutions” such as this that will essentially serve as a digital ID. With plans in motion for a “Great Reset” of the global financial system, how much time do we really have before all banking systems converge into one giant entity requiring our biometric data, vaccine passports, and obedience to totalitarian dictates to participate?………..

  13. Mastercard has announced the launch of its new Sustainability Innovation Lab, which will lead the further development of the company’s portfolio of environmentally conscious digital products and solutions.

Stockholm, Sweden will be the home of the global Lab, which will focus on ways to empower businesses and consumers to transform how they produce, distribute and purchase products and services, ensuring both people and the planet can thrive as the global economy rapidly digitises.

The Lab will explore how technologies such as 5G, quantum, and advanced AI can be applied to address environmental challenges. It will consist of an R&D Center focused on technology for sustainable consumption and value chains; a ‘Labs as a Service’ platform to convene partners and customers in the creation of new products; and a Mastercard Experience Center for hands-on product demos and in-person engagement.

Research and development within the Lab are already underway – with dedicated Mastercard employees, startup partners and customers – and the physical space will open in spring 2022.
