Reader’s Links for September 24, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

Biden administration unveils its first regulation to curb greenhouse gases

The Biden administration announced a rule curbing the use of a potent chemical used in household appliances, marking its first regulation on greenhouse gases.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will release a rule Thursday phasing down the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), the White House said. The regulation will cut HFC emissions by 85% over the next 15 years.

“EPA’s historic action is a major step towards addressing the climate crisis by slashing these ‘super pollutants,’” EPA Administrator Michael Regan tweeted. “It also reaffirms when (President Joe Biden)? thinks about climate, he thinks about jobs.”

Manufacturers of refrigerators, air conditioners and other appliances or materials that use HFCs will be forced to transition to “next-generation technologies,” an EPA announcement said. The action will maintain and create hundreds of thousands of union jobs in the U.S., according to the White House.

Dutch police have arrested nine men in Eindhoven who they say were preparing to take part in a terrorist attack. The investigation began in the summer following a tip-off from national security agency AIVD. The men are aged 18 to 31 and all have Dutch nationality. All but one were born in the Netherlands. The ninth man was born in Afghanistan, the public prosecution department said. The department says the men were ‘sympathetic’ to the jihadist thoughts of ISIS. Several homes were searched in the raids but police did not find any weapons or explosives. The last high profile arrest of a group of people suspected of terrorism offences took place in September 2018 in Arnhem and on a holiday park in Weert, after the gang was infiltrated by police officers posing as arms traders. Those raids led last October to six men being jailed for periods of 10 to 17 years for making plans to launch a jihadist attack on a large event in the Netherlands and for setting up a terrorist organisation. Police have not given any details about potential targets for the Eindhoven group.

  4. Chained police station gate delayed cops in responding to Alkmaar ATM bombing
    https://nltimes.nl/2021/09/24/chained-police-station-gate-delayed-cops-responding-alkmaar-atm-bombing
Police officers who wanted to respond to an ATM bombing at a shop in the historic center of Alkmaar in the night from Thursday to Friday, were delayed because the entrance gate of the police station was locked with a chain. Police said the chain was quickly cut. Whether the chained gate is linked to the explosion is still being investigated.
The bombing took place around 3:00 a.m. on Achterstraat. The police suspect an ATM inside the shop was targeted. No one was injured.
According to the police, local residents heard two loud bangs, after which they alerted the police. The building and surrounding buildings appeared to have been damaged by the explosion. Images from NH Nieuws and the local news site Alkmaar Centraal show that the facade that housed the ATM was blown out and that the street was strewn with glass and woodwork. A witness told Alkmaar Centraal that he saw two men come out and drive off on a scooter. The police could not confirm that.
The police cordoned off Achterstraat and evacuated surrounding homes as a precaution. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service secured two explosives and detonated them in De Boekelermeer, an area a little way away.
It is not yet clear whether the perpetrators stole anything. The police called on witnesses to come forward and people with camera images that may show something to upload these images via Politie.nl.

It’s a real paradox in a nation that was home to scientist Louis Pasteur and his pioneering discoveries in immunology.

In this episode of French Connections Plus, Florence Villeminot and Genie Godula take a stab at where this vaccine hesitancy comes from and why it’s so hard to cure.
