Reader’s Links for September 10, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. An article on seemingly-forgotten natural immunity:

Whence all this pandemic slips to history we will still scratch our heads (if permitted):

-Communist Americans and Chinese conspired to make the virus in a lab.
-It had a miniscule mortality rate, but enough to serve the purpose.
-Strangely, the drug companies were already waiting for it with untested vaxxx in hand.
-MSM and politicians committed preplanned mentacide on civilization by instilling irrational fear and compliance.
-George Soros died happy, having realized his dream of installing the world fascism he so admired and learned of in his Hungarian youth.

    Or:

Since narratives are what we write and not more and not less so no person must accept what seems to be foregone conclusions…:

The attempted brainwashing of the people wasn’t enough. They rose up in every nation because the remaining 10-25% of the people screamed long enough and loud enough to be heard. They finally cast off their fears to oust the Globalists from power. Heroes emerged as is humanity’s way, and freedom was saved.

It was when the vaxxed realized this was not about health that the worm truly turned. The Vaxxed, discovering that they had no true purchase to defend, were the cavalry coming for the beaten underdogs. The human spirit rose like the pheonix from the ashes. (Cue sappy music):

    • It’s a tribal thing.

Pak ISI is mainly Pashtun, like the Taliban. Clans flow across fluid borders – borders that never made sense.

We’re still projecting the tidy Wesphalian paradigm. Sykes-Picot-ing tribal societies. Policing borders the inhabitants don’t recognize is messy, dirty work.

The Northern Alliance is sorta Tajik, more central Asian than southeast Asian. They’re not so great either; India and Russia pump them up for their own reasons. (Some of us do too.)

Pure realpolitik, with lavish propaganda pouring out of India and Russia (And some from here.)

  4. Afghans fleeing the Taliban vow to risk their lives crossing the English Channel

Migrants in Calais undeterred by final obstacle on journey of more than 4,000 miles

Saif Urhman is only 18 but the young Afghan migrant looks at least a decade older.

Three stress-filled months ago, he says his family received multiple threats by the Taliban because of his father’s previous work with Nato as a truck driver.

After requests for evacuation went ignored, his parents rounded up Urhman and seven of his cousins – some as young as 13 years old – and sent them on a journey towards Europe.

“[Nato] left us behind,” Urhman said. “They did nothing for us.”

Waiting in the scrub land around Calais, just the English Channel separates them from their final destination, where they are trying to reach a distant cousin living in Bristol.

    ======================================
Saif Urhman, left, is one of dozens of Afghans waiting to cross the Channel

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/world-news/2021/09/07/TELEMMGLPICT000270207686_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqpVlberWd9EgFPZtcLiMQf0Rf_Wk3V23H2268P_XkPxc.jpeg?imwidth=960
    =======================================

By some estimates Monday marked another record for illegal crossings of the Channel, as people smugglers took advantage of the good weather to send dozens of dinghy’s across one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

While only a modest number were from Afghanistan, experts predict a surge in the coming weeks and months as hundreds of thousands flee the Taliban takeover.

“We miss our parents,” Urhman stresses, adding he hasn’t been able to get in touch with them since the country fell to the Taliban several weeks ago.

“Can you imagine what it’s like to be separated from your family like this?” he pleads. “We haven’t heard anything from them.”

Urhman and his cousins say they’re willing to risk their lives to complete their journey.

“I’m thinking the risk that I’ll drown along the way is 90 per cent,” said Mohammed Khan, a 24-year-old who says he left Afghanistan on his own, leaving behind a wife and four kids.

“But after all I’ve been through, a ten percent chance of making it feels pretty good to me.”

Khan, who speaks perfect English, says he applied for asylum in France, but his application was rejected. He says the UK is his last hope. He’s hoping he can meet up with his brother, a British national.

He eventually plans to go back to Afghanistan to get his wife and children.

“My kids aren’t able to get an education anymore in Afghanistation…it’s not a good situation…they need to learn.”

    Channel crossings will likely increase

Britain has promised to settle 5,000 Afghans this year, many of whom escaped on military evacuation flights.

But many more have fled the Taliban, triggering fears that Europe could be hit by another migration crisis.

Pierre Roques, a coordinator for l’Auberge des Migrants, said he expected a sharp influx of Afghan arrivals within the next few months given recent events in Kabul.

It will likely further strain relations between Britain and France, locked in a row over policing of the crossing.

The estimated 850 migrants who crossed the channel on Monday ratcheted up tensions over a financial deal to increase patrols. Priti Patel, the home secretary, suggested she could withhold £54 million of funding if the French did not prevent more crossings.

In 2020, the UK granted asylum to less than half of the 1,336 Afghans that applied for it.

France, meanwhile, took in nearly 9,000 Afghans in the same period. In August, France welcomed an additional 2,800 Afghans who were evacuated from Kabul on French military planes.

‘No one has helped me in France’

According to French government figures, around 90 percent of asylum applications from Afghanistan are approved every year.

But people The Telegraph spoke with said their applications in France had been rejected or that they felt unwelcome on French soil.

“When I was in Afghanistan, I saw images on the news of people in Europe helping immigrants who came here. No one has helped me in France,” said 30-year-old Qudrat Ullah, who suffers from debilitating back pain, making it difficult for him to stand for long periods of time.

Asked if he applied for asylum in France, he said the paperwork was too difficult for him to fill out.

Like most migrants in Calais, Ullah has been sleeping in a tent for the last two weeks.

Human rights groups have routinely criticised police treatment towards migrants in Calais. In 2019, the UN called on France to take immediate action to address the “dire” living conditions for migrants in Calais.

Since the closure of the makeshift “jungle” migrant camp in late 2016, hundreds of migrants have been forced to sleep outside in tents, which are often confiscated by the police. Migrants also face regular evictions, sometimes being forced to move every 48 hours.

The several hundred migrants at this makeshift shelter on the outskirts of Calais do the best they can to remain discrete – and to indulge in small pleasures.

A sandy patch of land has been transformed into a football pitch, including goal posts constructed with sticks of food.

Deeper into the surrounding woods, migrants set up their tent quarters, which are separated by nationality.

Saif Urhman and his cousins have found a leafy patch of grass in the Afghan quarter, but still don’t have tents or blankets.

As a fixer coordinates with local NGOs to bring them supplies, the boys feel a sense of relief, followed by giddy excitement. They start making Tik-Tok videos showing off their new living quarters – hopefully the last time they’ll be forced to sleep outside.

But the older cousin, Saif, keeps a straight face, his mind focused on family in Afghanistan – and the dangerous last leg of their journey.

Asked if he has a message for European officials, he shakes his head.

“I have many messages in my heart,” Urhman said. “But no one cares. I just went to get us to the UK.”

  6. CNN – France bans unvaccinated American travelers

CNN) — France has become the latest European country — and the most significant tourism destination — to remove the United States from its safe travel list, following EU recommendations in the wake of a US Covid spike.

A French government decree issued on Thursday bumped the United States and Israel from the country’s “green” list, down to “orange,” effectively prohibiting nonessential travel to France for unvaccinated visitors.

    https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/france-us-travelers-restriction-covid/index.html

    ================================================
LATEST: France bans unvaccinated American tourists

The French government has announced that the USA and Israel will be added to its orange list for travel – meaning that tourists will only be allowed in if they are fully vaccinated.

The move comes two weeks after the EU removed the USA from its ‘white list’ of safe countries over concerns about infection rates and a lack of reciprocity on travel from the US government.

Individual EU countries make their own decisions on borders, and the French government has announced that from Sunday, September 12th at 00.01am both the USA and Israel will be moved from its green list to the orange list.

This means that fully vaccinated travellers can come for any reason, and do not need to show a negative Covid test.

However people who are not fully vaccinated can only enter France if they meet the criteria for ‘essential travel’ – this includes French citizens and residents returning home, students beginning academic studies in France and essential work trips, but does not include tourism, family visits or visits to second homes.

To count as fully vaccinated, travellers must

Have received a vaccine that is approved by the European Medicines Agency – Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson & Johnson (known as Janssen in France). The Indian-produced Covishield vaccine is now accepted by France

Be at least two weeks after the second injection for double-dose vaccines or for two weeks after a single dose for those people who had previously had Covid-19

Be at least four weeks after the injection for people who had the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine

The American CDC vaccine card is accepted as proof of vaccination at the border.

Once in France, a health passport is required for access venues including bars, cafés, tourist sites and long-distance train travel. For this the CDC vaccine card is not accepted, so a French QR code is required –

The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) has admitted there were “serious flaws” in a Radio 4 documentary by journalist Chloe Hadjimatheou on the alleged 2018 chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma.

[…]Many believe this was done in order to frame the Syrian government and justify missile strikes launched by the US, UK and France against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in April 2018.

[…]Since 2018, Damascus has maintained that no chemical attack occurred in Douma, and that the incident had been staged by foreign intelligence agencies to pressure the government from making military progress against ISIS.

[…]He went on to add that he hopes the BBC and others will now “do some decent reporting of the scandal of what happened at the OPCW, namely the doctoring of a vital report to justify rash military action by the US, Britain and France.”

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), which represents approximately 30,000 federal law enforcement officers and agents across the United States, came out against the Biden administration’s plan to mandate coronavirus vaccinations.

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s action to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for all federal employees is misguided. Today, 75 percent of American adults have at least their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. We are well on our way to herd immunity based on voluntary vaccination. A mandate at this time only undermines these voluntary vaccination efforts and reduces public comfort in getting vaccinated,” Larry Cosme, president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, said in a statement.

Shortly after Taiwan announced that it had successfully produced its own vaccine as it seeks to bolster its domestic COVID response, India has followed up on its promise to create its own homespun DNA-based COVID jab.

The DNA vaccine uses circular strands of DNA to prime the immune system against a virus – in this case, SARS-CoV-2. Researchers welcomed news of the first DNA vaccine’s approval, saying it could be a major step forward in the battle against COVID. The jab, called ZyCoV-D, is administered into the skin without an injection, and has been found to be 67% protective against symptomatic COVID-19 in clinical trials

On Thursday, after President Biden issued his threat to employers with 100 or more employees that they must ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result on at least a weekly basis before coming to work, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) fired back, “Are you people trying to start a full on revolt? … Leave people the hell alone.”

Biden stated in his speech, “My job as president is to protect all Americans. So tonight, I’m announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees that together employ over 80 million workers to ensure their work forces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.”

“Such a standard would pre-empt existing rules by state governments, except in states that have their own OSHA-approved workplace agencies —about half the states in the country. States with their own programs have 30 days to adopt a standard that is at least as effective e and that must cover state and local government employees, such as teachers. Vaccines Mandates Today, China’s Social Credit System Tomorrow? – Frontpagemag

The dark road of writing mandates into law.

If California’s Democrats get their way, their state will become the first to write vaccine mandates into law. If California’s Democrats succeed, they will take the nation down a dangerous path, one that could lead to a social credit system.

Democrats in the Assembly, the state legislature’s lower house, want to rewrite drafts of current bills and transform them into vaccine mandates. The process earned a colloquial nickname: gut and amend.

“Gut-and-amend bills can be particularly insidious,” wrote Katy Grimes in the California Globe, a political website.

This secretive process often leaves lawmakers, as well as the public, little or no time to review entirely new legislation dropped into an old bill. And usually, the subject of the legislation has nothing to do with the bill’s previous legislative issue.Gut-and-amend typically happens with budget issues and heavy special interest legislation. Lawmakers have complained loudly for years that the gut-and-amend process has been grossly abused by whichever party is in power.

The Democrats first tried this tactic with AB 455, a transportation bill. The Los Angeles Times obtained a draft version stipulating that Californians must present vaccination proof to enter a restaurant, theater, gym, hotel or sports arena. The revised bill also demanded that employees, job applicants and independent contractors must provide similar proof or take weekly COVID-19 tests.

    Accountability for Afghanistan
    Pete Hoekstra and John Shadegg
    6-8 minutes

Near the top of the list of those who must be held accountable for America’s debacle in Afghanistan are those individuals who hold Senate-confirmed positions. They were the architects of this disaster: Secretary of State Antony Blinken (left), Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin (center), and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley (right). Together, these individuals either counseled the President that they would execute his direction effectively and safely, or they developed and implemented a strategy that they knew would not work. (Blinken photo by Jonathan Ernst/Pool/AFP via Getty Images); Austin & Milley photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images)

America has just experienced perhaps its greatest foreign policy debacle in modern history by surrendering to the Taliban in Afghanistan. The enemy that the U.S. held accountable for harboring the al-Qaeda terrorist group that attacked us on 9/11 once again governs Afghanistan. The Taliban now holds the keys to whether, how, and when Americans left behind will be returned home safely. The question today is who will be held accountable for this debacle, a debacle in both strategy and execution.

BREAKING: Dick Heller Sues District of Columbia Over Ban on Home Made Firearms and ‘Ghost Guns’ – The Truth About Guns

    Dick Heller vs DC
    Courtesy Jeff Hulbert

Dick Heller, of Heller v. DC fame has filed suit today in US District court in the District of Columbia challenging the city’s ban on “ghost guns” and individuals making their own firearms.

    Here’s a key excerpt . . .

    9. The District has clearly not learned from its numerous defeats of in the courts, and this case arises from that predicament. The District’s antipathy toward firearms, a Constitutional protected item, extends so far as to flatly prohibit the manufacture of a firearm in the District; not a particularly dangerous and unusual firearm, see, e.g., Heller, 554 U.S. at 571 (discussing that laws forbidding the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons were presumptively valid), but any firearm. See D.C. Code § 7-2504.01(a).

    10. Imagine were the District to ban the act of publishing one’s own words. Would this court not see such a law as utterly invalid under any standard of review? Can there be any justification for an outright prohibition on the manufacture of a firearm, a Constitutionally protected item?

  18. (Richard: He is probably right, it is unlikely that President Trump would have been able to pull all of the troops out. A re-invasion will be much more difficult then the original invasion because Biden has stabbed our Afghan allies in the back and thanks to the helicopters he left and the Pakistan pilots that flew them the Northern Alliance in no longer a viable threat to partner with. This may be the reason Obama ordered the pull out to be done in the worst possible way and to leave US Citizens behind. Who in that region will trust the US knowing that the Dems are either in control or may win the next election and take control so they can once again stab our allies in the back. It is going to take several large scale attacks inside the US or a lot more small scale attacks in the US before we will find the political will to once again take out Afghanistan.)

Sen. Lindsey Graham Says US Will Have To ‘Reinvade’ Afghanistan
    2-3 minutes

On Monday, Sen. Lindsey Graham stunned a BBC reporter when he stated that the United States would be most likely re-invade Afghanistan to continue the War on Terrorism. Graham predicted in an interview with BBC reporter Stephen Sackur that the new Taliban government in Afghanistan might very well serve as a haven for radical Islamic terrorists who despise the United States and might even develop plots to target the United States, just the same as they did before September 11, 2001. Despite assurances from President Joe Biden that an “over the horizon” counterterrorism strategic approach using targeted drone strikes would be practical, he expressed skepticism about the process.

Graham asserted that the Taliban’s goal is to create a haven for Al-Qaeda, which wants to push America out of the Middle East as a whole and target the US because of its way of life. He went on to say that the Americans would be returning to Afghanistan in the same way that they had returned to Syria and Iraq.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Florida’s new “anti-riot” law championed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis as a way to quell violent protests is unconstitutional and cannot be enforced, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

The 90-page decision by U.S. District Judge Mark Walker in Tallahassee found the recently-enacted law “vague and overbroad” and amounted to an assault on First Amendment rights of free speech and assembly as well as the Constitution’s due process protections.

People engaged in peaceful protest or innocently in the same area when a demonstration turned violent could face criminal charges and stiff penalties under the law, the judge said.

A key issue is defining what the word “riot” means in the statute. Walker noted that past Florida laws sought to prevent demonstrations that could threaten segregationist Jim Crow-era practices.

Texas Governor Signs Law Allowing Users to Sue Social Media Companies Over Suspensions

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill passed by the GOP-led legislature that is designed to stop social media companies from censoring users based on their political statements or viewpoints.

The measure was introduced earlier this year but was delayed when dozens of Democrat state lawmakers left the state to deny Republicans quorum and block the passage of a voting overhaul bill that Abbott, a Republican, signed several days ago.

House Bill 20, the social media bill, was signed by Abbot on Thursday. It prevents companies from suspending users based on their politics and allows Texas residents to file lawsuits to reinstate accounts that are deemed to have been unfairly targeted and removed. Namely, the legislation targeted platforms that have at least 50 million users, which would include Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, among others.

MONTREAL — Quebec’s education minister has condemned anti-vaccine protesters who allegedly harassed students at a Montreal school that was running a vaccination clinic and claimed the vaccine was linked to the recent death of a student.

Minister Jean-François Roberge said on Twitter he was shocked by the actions of the protesters “who have used the tragic death of a young girl to fuel disinformation.”

“It is an irresponsible gesture and I offer my condolences to the relatives of the victim and to the school staff.”

In a statement provided to CTV News, the regional health authority for the East Island of Montreal said their vaccination staff members were at the school on Wednesday to hand out shots to eligible students, which was one day after the student’s tragic death.

“During this vaccination activity, 177 doses were administered and no incidents were brought to our attention,” wrote CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal spokesperson Catherine Dion.

Montreal police confirmed they responded to a 911 call at the school on Tuesday and that a “young girl was sent to hospital.” The cause of the student’s death was not publicly released.

Police spokesperson Jessica Lalonde said police were at the school the next day and that a group of adults were engaging with students “in a public space next to the school” but there was no criminal activity involved.

The protesters claimed that the student’s death happened after the in-school immunization, according to a report by La Presse, which first reported the incident.

A teacher at the school, Xavier Watson, posted a video on his Facebook page of him telling a protester to not talk to his students.

“An anti-vaxxer and his gang came to protest at my school today as we mourn the tragic death of a student!” Watson wrote on Facebook. “This is f**ked, these people are disgusting!”

Premier Francois Legault was asked about the protest Friday, and his response was pointed.

“It’s unacceptable to see the anti-vax (movement) getting our children involved in their fight,” said Legault. “Please, get our children out of this debate please.

He added that he has asked Public Security Minister Genevieve Guilbault to ensure police are investigating the matter thoroughly.

  24. twitter – Health Canada

There are many proven ways to prevent the spread of #COVID19.

#Ivermectin, an antiparasitic agent, is NOT one of them.

    https://twitter.com/GovCanHealth/status/1436419319932542981
    ===============================================

Ivermectin not authorized to prevent or treat COVID-19; may cause serious health
    problems

    Summary

Product: Ivermectin (veterinary or human versions), an antiparasitic agent (tablets, paste, oral solution, injectable solution, medicated premix or topical).

Issue: Consumers, are purchasing veterinary ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19.

What to do: Do not use veterinary ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19. If you have purchased ivermectin for this purpose, discard it immediately. Consult a healthcare professional if you have used this product and have health concerns.

    ——————————-

    Issue

Health Canada has received concerning reports of the use of veterinary ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19. Canadians should never consume health products intended for animals because of the potential serious health dangers posed by them.

In this light, Health Canada is advising Canadians not to use either the veterinary or human drug versions of Ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19. There is no evidence that ivermectin in either formulation is safe or effective when used for those purposes. The human version of ivermectin is authorized for sale in Canada only for the treatment of parasitic worm infections in people.

The veterinary version of ivermectin, especially at high doses, can be dangerous for humans and may cause serious health problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, allergic reactions, dizziness, seizures, coma and even death. Ivermectin products for animals have a higher concentrated dose than ivermectin products for people.

The Department is aware of multiple reports of patients in the U.S. who have required medical support and been hospitalized after using ivermectin intended for horses.

Health Canada is closely monitoring all potential therapeutic treatments for COVID-19, including treatments being studied in international clinical trials. To date, Health Canada has not received any drug submission or clinical trial application for ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19.

For drugs that have the potential to be helpful in treating COVID-19, Health Canada encourages drug manufacturers to conduct clinical trials. This would provide an opportunity for the healthcare community to collect information on the effectiveness of the treatment and its associated risks.

Should a manufacturer provide a submission to Health Canada related to the use of ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19, Health Canada would conduct a scientific evaluation of the evidence to determine the drug’s quality, safety and effectiveness.

Health Canada will continue to monitor the situation and will take appropriate and timely action should new information become available, including any information regarding the illegal advertising or sale of ivermectin. Health Canada will also communicate any new safety information to healthcare professionals and consumers.

Health Canada has previously warned Canadians about products making false and misleading claims to treat or cure COVID-19. For information on Health Canada authorized vaccines and treatments, visit Canada.ca.

    Background

Ivermectin, a prescription drug product, is authorized for sale in Canada for the treatment of parasitic worm infections in humans, specifically intestinal strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis, and should only be used for this purpose, under the supervision of a healthcare professional. A veterinary version of this medication is available to treat parasitic infections in animals. People should never use the veterinary version of this product.

    What you should do

If you have purchased ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19, stop using it and discard it:

Follow municipal or regional guidelines on how to dispose of chemicals and other hazardous waste; or

Return the product to the point of sale for proper disposal.

Consult a healthcare professional if you have used ivermectin and have health concerns.

Report any side effects from this product directly to Health Canada.

Submit a complaint to Health Canada should you have any information regarding the illegal advertising or sale of ivermectin or any other health product using its online complaint form.

  25. ctv -MONTREAL – McGill students protest university’s decision to not require proof of COVID-19 vaccination

MONTREAL — As McGill University starts classes for the fall semester, members of the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) opted for the front lawn over the classroom to protest the school’s decision not to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination to be on campus.

“A disturbing lack of empathy by administration. Students, professors and staff need accommodations, whether they are for themselves or for their loved ones,” reads a tweet by the SSMU.

If proof of vaccine will not be made mandatory on campus, the students say they want testing sites to be made available — especially for those living in dorms. In addition, the students want the option to learn remotely, a well as mandatory contact tracing on campus.

“It’s weird that we’re being so safe about everything except mandatory vaccines,” said student Danielle Allard.

“My professors are literally writing letters to the school telling them that they’re legally obliged to take measures and they’re not,” said student Daniel Tamblyn-Watts.

They also complain that the university is not being accomodating to immunocompromised students.

“I could possibly lose my funding to be here if I took a year off as the admin has suggested,” said immunocompromised student Emily Black. “I could lose my spot here.”

McGill says it is requiring students to wear masks indoors at all times to keep in tune with Quebec public health recommendations, but there will be no distancing required in classrooms. Employees have been asked to fill out daily self-assessment forms before coming to campus.

“Our utmost priority has always been the health and safety of our students and staff. McGill University has been working with and continues to work with the various government authorities to align with directives, to adapt our plans, and to put in place the necessary measures that will ensure the successful return of students and employees to our campuses this Fall,” McGill media relations officer Frederique Mazerolle said.

“At this point in time, our view is that unless the government mandates vaccination, in the Quebec context we cannot legally require it. Based on the most recent figures received from the government authorities, more than 85 per cent of our students are vaccinated. There is a very high degree of certainty that most at-risk people will be vaccinated.”

Mazerolle added that VaxiCode passports will be required to access a wide range of non-essential activities on and off-campus.

More than 1,000 people have signed an online petition demanding McGill make vaccines mandatory for students on campus.

This week, the Legault government announced vaccinations will be made mandatory for health care workers and students in health-care programs.

That rule will not apply for those in other departments.
