Reader’s Links for August 21, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. If Biden was a real President he would immediately send all eleven US aircraft carriers along with any Brits or Germans or whomever to the region, do a perfect 180-reversal, and declare all-out total war against the Taliban and not stop shooting until every one of them is either dead or running scared and terrified. The Taliban are the guys who created the conditions that created 9/11 and it is entirely appropriate to fight them without hesitation just as they did in the first place. Commit genocide against the evil murderous bastards. They are all murderers and richly deserve to hang on their own merits…

The Americans could use the Afghan people as spotters with cell phones and send in the planes the minute the Taliban turn up anywhere. Kill them by the thousands with drones, Apaches, Warthogs, and Spookies and send a clear message that you don’t fuck with the USA. If Biden does not do this America’s reputation on the world stage will be totally destroyed for the foreseeable future…

And tell the Pakistanis that they will lose all funding and friendship if they dare to misbehave and help their evil Taliban henchmen. It’s time for Uncle Sam to act like a great big bad bully and assert the shit out of himself. And when the cockroaches run into the hills, follow them there and kill them anyway. Don’t just deter them. Kill them all. No more Mr. Nice Guy…

    • You are assuming that the goal of the current administration is to preserve the US position in the world, the actions of everyone in this screwed up mess in the White House say this is the last thing they want.

      • I think the current White House is being controlled directly by the Communist Chinese owing to the masses of evidence they must have on the Bidens whom we know to be corrupt as they come…

          • Obama is part of the same “Team China”. I remember the very moment when all this BS started and Manchurian Barack Obama made his slanted Sharptonesque remarks about the case of cop-baiter Professor Gates and his stuck door thus kicking off his non-stop campaign to make blacks and whites hate each other. Then came Trayvon Martin and the course of future race war was set. There would be no Black Lives Matter if Barry hadn’t laid the groundwork…

I heard it like a little bell going off. “Ting…”…

    • For sure. The political power behind this mess in Europe and behind it getting worse must be the political power there that does not have to take any refugees and has not. While all along telling the rest of the world to take them in.

  4. ** AFGHANISTAN: David Fox is an American trapped in Kabul who appeared on a video report with ABC to highlight the situation faced by thousands of Americans attempting to evacuate the region. While he was describing the dangerous situation around the Kabul airport, Mr. Fox also pointed out a very serious issue. ABC buried the lead….

According to his report, the U.S. State Department responded en masse to all the people trapped in Afghanistan reaching out for help.

The U.S. Embassy consular services department sent a document with instructions to assist Americans and eligible Afghans claiming Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) status. The document looks exactly like an approved VISA document except there is no filled in name, no serial number and no barcode. **

Tens of thousands of fraudulent State Department documents showing up at the already overwhelmed gates of the Kabul airport will only make things exponentially more difficult to sort through.

Something like this is beyond FUBAR. This level of specific evacuation crisis is benefitting some purpose. Essentially, this “mistake” as outlined in the video above, is going to collapse any hope for an efficient evacuation with verified personnel.

We have seen this play out before [Bathtub Principle] where a crisis is created because the crisis has a purpose.

In Libya rather than Hillary Clinton and CIA Director Leon Panetta getting busted for selling surface-to-air missiles (SAMS) to al-Qaeda (Operation Zero Footprint), the State Department and CIA -essentially brother and sister agencies- helped “the Benghazi rebels” take over the Kadaffi weapons caches. If SAMS were then used elsewhere (Syria), well, they came from Kadaffi’s stores… see how that works?

Based on current political alignment, alliances, and the ideology behind who is in charge of specific U.S. government agencies, it can reasonably be assumed someone (insert Obama here) wants Pakistan and Iran to have advanced military technology via the stolen weapons we leave behind in Afghanistan.

    Why?

Because those same people already made money selling advanced military tech to Iran, and this ‘crisis’ provides cover when it shows up later in their arsenal. (more)

“Something is going on”… Something much more consequential than appears at the surface.

We can see the ducks moving fast, but under the surface their feet are moving much faster.

Three districts snatched back from Taliban, claim resistance fighters | Afghanistan

      • The Northern alliance was the only hold out against the Taliban during the last Civil War, it looks like they are going to be last hold outs again. in 2002 we could use them against the Taliban because we had a good record of supporting our allies. We don’t have that good record now, Biden and Obama have screwed us and our allies and the world is going to explode because no one trusts us while Biden is in office. I’m not sure how many will trust us when Trump gets back in power, they will know that once Trump is gone the Dems may be back in power ready to turn everyone that helps us over to their local enemies.

The Dems have long dreamed of a world where the US wasn’t dominate and others have had the same dream. Pay close attention to the next several years, you will see a world without a dominate US (or any other nation) where there are small, medium and large regional wars. Some for mineral resources, some for water and food and others to dominate trade routes to suck on the life blood of trade like so many vampires.

OT but not OT Europe is going to receive another massive wave of refugees from Afghanistan and Pakistan, this is going to further destabilize Europe and probably start one or more major civil wars in Europe.

  7. Germany: Afghan govt and army collapsed at “breathtaking pace” – Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Afhganistan’s government and army had “collapsed at a breathtaking pace” in the face of the Taliban’s offensive, at a Union election campaign event in Berlin on Saturday.

“We had expected the resistance to be stronger,” Merkel said, before adding that what was most important now was to rescue people, “above all those who helped us.”

The Taliban’s campaign followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country. Former president Ashraf Ghani has since fled Afghanistan and the US has evacuated its embassy staff from Kabul, as have many other NATO states.

The outgoing chancellor also emphasised the special nature of the upcoming German general election, pointing out it was the first since 1949 where the incumbent was not running for office again, as she spoke to an audience that included Christian Democratic Union (CDU) chancellor candidate Armin Laschet, Christian Social Union (CSU) leader Markus Soder, and other senior Union bloc figures.

After noting her administration’s progress on fighting unemployment and electric cars she went on to urge party members to fight ‘every hour’ to ensure the Union a parliamentary majority and to get Laschet into the Chancellery.

Germany is set to go to the polls on Sunday, September 26, with Politico’s Poll of Polls placing the Union on 24 percent, with the Social Democratic Party (SPD) on 20, while the Greens sit at 18.

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): “I am also thinking about the drama and tragedy in Afghanistan. The situation in Afghanistan deteriorated dramatically about a week ago with the conquest of Kabul by the Taliban. The Afghan government and army collapsed at a breathtaking pace, and we had expected the resistance to be stronger, that goes with it. In these hours the most important thing is to save people, our own nationals, German citizens, citizens of other NATO states, and above all those who helped us.”

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): “I hope to be able to speak on behalf of all of you, we want them to return home safely. It is a very dangerous enterprise. And a very profound thank you to all soldiers that were involved in this operation.”

M/S Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Armin Laschet sitting with arms folded as Christian Social Union (CSU) leader Markus Soder (L) and others applaud

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): “We together, CDU and CSU, Armin Laschet, Markus Soder, Alexander Dobrindt, Ralf Brinkhaus, all secretary generals, we are all together. And this general election is a very special one. It is the first general election since 1949 where the acting Chancellor is not seeking reelection.”

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): “In 2005 our country had over five million unemployed. In the time of our government we cut that figure in half. Even in the midst of a pandemic, this figure now is clearly under three million and remains close to 2.5 million.”

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): “In 2009 I also said that for 2020 I wanted a million electric cars, in 2009. We achieved this goal in the second semester of 2021. Six months later, I would say good enough.

SOT, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor (German): “And that is why I would say, it is worth it to fight in the remaining 35 days, every hour, every hour so that the CDU and CSU may be strong in the German parliament. Every hour so that we can shape Germany well and lead it to a good future, and that of course with Armin Laschet as our future Chancellor.”

    • Afghanistan: Taliban members urge Khost residents to return to normal life

Taliban fighters could be seen in the streets of Khost on Friday, as members of the group urged local residents to return to their normal lives.

Taliban members said that they were there to protect their fellow countrymen and encouraged residents to reopen shops.

“My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers,” said Taliban member Ahmad Jan.

Some shop owners spoke optimistically of the new government, hoping the new sense of security was long term.

“It is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new,” shop owner Ejazulhaq said.

The Taliban has made promises of greater tolerance and respect for human rights, as well as to not seek revenge against the group’s opponents but growing reports from human rights groups and media outlets indicate that it may be carrying out reprisals.

Khost province was formerly the home of the US military base Forward Operating Base Chapman, where the CIA also had a facility.

The recent Taliban offensive followed the announcement in April that the US and other NATO states would be withdrawing their forces from the country. Former president Ashraf Ghani has since fled Afghanistan and the US has evacuated its embassy staff from Kabul, as have many other NATO states.

Prior to the Taliban’s seizure of power, China, India, Pakistan, Russia and the US, among other world powers, had been pushing for an end to the conflict in Afghanistan.

The Taliban is designated a terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council. The US meanwhile has not placed it on its Foreign Terrorist Organization list while Russia has designated it a terrorist group since 2003. In July 2021, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow had started ‘to establish contacts’ with the Taliban seven years earlier to communicate ‘concerns’ regarding security in the region.

SOT, Haji Agha, Taliban member (Pashto): “I demand from the people to continue their work, we will serve them, we are going to do what they want, by Allah willing I request from the people to come back in their homes and there is no problem.”

SOT, Ahmad Jan, Taliban member (Pashto): “A lot of people have come here, the shops are reopened, and their work system is active, My message to the all people is that open your shops, do your works, they must be assured from us, we are their soldiers, we are their saviours, we are the sons of this nation, we are not allies, we are not foreigners, we are the sons of this nation, these are our brothers and we are their brothers and we will serve them all the time.”

SOT, Ghulam Hassan, Shopkeeper (Pashto): “According to the security, thank Allah it is better security, I have been restarted my work again, the bazaar is secured there is no threats, I demand from the government and the Taliban to announce their government as soon as possible until people starts their works.”

SOT, Ejazulhaq, Shopkeeper (Pashto): “The work system is good and it is changing day by day because now the people are losing their fears slowly, and the people will learn as the government is new and the government authorities are okay now.”

    • Afghanistan: Kabul residents gather outside evacuated Canadian embassy in hope of visas

Kabul residents gathered outside of Canada’s closed embassy in the Afghan capital on Saturday in the hopes of somehow securing visas out of the country in the wake of the Taliban’s seizure of power.

“Most of the Western countries have promised to our people to grant us visas, such as Canada,” said local man Omar Abdulah, explaining that many didn’t trust the Taliban’s promises of ‘amnesty’ for its opponents.

Ferozan Bdakshi said that she had been a refugee for ‘ten weeks,’

“We heard that aircraft were coming at the Kabul airport to pick us up and help young girls. Currently, neither Taliban nor US military personnel is allowing anyone to go inside the airport. We can’t blame one side but both sides,” she added.

Locals have been trying to gain visas at many foreign embassies throughout the city ever since it fell to the Taliban on Sunday, August 15, although many have suspended operations.

According to a statement from the Canadian Minister of Immigration on Sunday the embassy suspended operations when the Taliban took the city.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Tuesday that all Canadian diplomats had been evacuated from the country, along with the embassy’s Nepalese Gurkha security detail.

    • “This is the city of the brave, and we are brave” – Taliban pose for photos at king”s mausoleum …

Taliban fighters were seen posing for photos at the mausoleum of King Amanullah Khan in Jalalabad, on Saturday, days after the city’s capture.

“This is the city of the brave, and we are brave. Thanks to Allah. We have defeated the enemy of Islam. Now we will establish the Islamic system here,” said one Taliban fighter.

On Wednesday, dozens of Jalalabad residents took to the streets to protest the removal of the national flag from Pashtunistan Square and its replacement with the white Taliban Islamic Emirate flag. Though the demonstration was met with violence from the Taliban, dozens of Afghan flags could be seen still flying in the city’s streets on Saturday.

    • Afghanistan: Taliban enforce checkpoint on highway in Kabul

Taliban members carrying assault rifles and rocket launchers enforced a checkpoint on a highway in Eastern Kabul on Saturday. Taliban members were seen inspecting cars on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway in the Surobi-district of Kabul.

“We are here to serve our people, and the situation is critical. We are here to prevent those who are stealing, who are looting, and stealing cars,” claimed a Taliban member.

SOT, Taliban member (Dari): “As you see our friends are checking the vehicles. It is because we are here to serve our people, and the situation is critical. We are here to prevent those who are stealing, who are looting, and stealing cars, and we have seized some stolen cars.”

SOT, Taliban member (Dari): “I would like to assure all the people to continue their lives and continue their work and commerce. There is no problem, according to the order of the Islamic Emirate and Amir al-Muminin (Commander of the faithful) to capture and punish those who are opposed to us.”

    • Take In Afghan Refugees: EU Chief Appeals To Members

All EU states that had operated missions in Afghanistan needed to draw up adequate quotas so those who needed protection would get it, she said.

Madrid: EU chief Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday appealed to European Union states to take in Afghan refugees flown out from Kabul, promising financial support from Brussels.

“To those who cannot go back or stay home, we have to offer alternatives,” said von der Leyen, after visiting a military base in northeast Spain that will serve as a reception centre for Afghans arriving from Kabul who worked for the EU.

“This means, first, that we must offer legal and safe routes globally, organised by us, to those who need our protection.”

All EU states that had operated missions in Afghanistan needed to draw up adequate quotas so those who needed protection would get it, she said.

“The Commission stands ready to look into the necessary budgetary means to support EU member states who will step up and help resettle refugees,” she added.

EU Council President Charles Michel, the bloc’s foreign policy chief Josep Borell and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Spanish also visited the base, at Torrejoin de Ardoz.

“Close to 150 people have been evacuated so far; our efforts on the ground continue to get all staff and dependants to safety,” Borrell tweeted.

Sanchez said the centre would be used to process the arriving Afghans and their families before they are settled in EU countries, has a capacity for 800 people.

Some countries had already agreed to take in the former EU employees, including Denmark and some of the Baltic countries, he added, without elaborating.

    • Biden Reportedly Considering Tapping U.S. Airlines To Help Afghanistan Evacuations

Biden may take advantage of a program created seventy years ago to enlist U.S. airlines to transport people evacuated from Afghanistan, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The Biden administration is considering activating 20 planes from as many as five commercial airlines that are enrolled in the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF), the Journal reported.

The planes would fly to and from intermediate locations including Qatar, Germany and Bahrain that are temporarily hosting Americans, Afghans and others evacuated from Kabul.

The program was created in 1951 following the Berlin airlift to help the military when it doesn’t have enough room for cargo or passengers on its planes, and has been used only twice—before the first and second wars in Iraq.

United, American and Delta airlines are part of the program, Defense One reported.

      KEY BACKGROUND
Activating the CRAF would help alleviate overcrowding at air bases that evacuees are being flown to from Kabul. Evacuations were held up Friday when the U.S. air base in Qatar, where most Afghans were being flown, ran out of room to take more people. The State Department announced later that day that a dozen countries, including Qatar, Germany and Bahrain, will temporarily take in Afghans, Americans and others who are being evacuated.

  9. IS threat forces US changes to evacuations at Kabul airport
By AHMAD SEIR, RAHIM FAIEZ, KATHY GANNON and LOLITA C. BALDOR
    7-9 minutes

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Potential Islamic State threats against Americans in Afghanistan are forcing the U.S. military to develop new ways to get evacuees to the airport in Kabul, a senior U.S. official said Saturday, adding a new complication to the already chaotic efforts to get people out of the country after its swift fall to the Taliban.

The official said that small groups of Americans and possibly other civilians will be given specific instructions on what to do, including movement to transit points where they can be gathered up by the military. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.

The changes come as the U.S. Embassy issued a new security warning Saturday telling citizens not to travel to the Kabul airport without individual instruction from a U.S. government representative. Officials declined to provide more specifics about the IS threat but described it as significant. They said there have beenno confirmed attacks as yet.

  10. Healthcare systems wary of instituting COVID-19 vaccine mandate over fears of losing staff

Healthcare providers hesitate to require workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment, fearing a mandate could cause the resignations of staff they cannot afford to lose.

“[Hospitals] are doing a balancing act between caring for patients and not contributing to the pandemic by spreading COVID-19 through unvaccinated clinicians,” said Audrey Capozzoli, president of Renal Reserve, a national dialysis staffing agency. “Hospitals that mandate vaccinations and may terminate employees who refuse to get them could find themselves short-staffed. This leads to staff burnout and further reduction of qualified clinicians.”

    3-4 minutes

Americans have been beaten in Afghanistan, a U.S. military official said Saturday.

A day after he said the military was aware of reports that Americans were beaten by Taliban terrorists, Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said that “we know of a small number of cases where some Americans … have been harassed, and in some cases, beaten.”

“We don’t believe it’s a very large number, and most Americans who have their credentials with them are being allowed through the Taliban checkpoints,” he added.

The stunning admission came as the U.S. Embassy warned Americans against traveling to the U.S.-held airport in Kabul, where thousands of people are trying to enter to escape the country before American troops leave.

Biden Faces Serious Accusation – Joe’s State Department Allegedly Charging U.S. Citizens $2K To Escape Afghanistan

In the wake of the Afghanistan fallout, many Americans are worried about U.S. citizens that are stuck in the fallen country. With the Taliban in charge, it’s a potentially dangerous situation.

On top of that, the evacuations haven’t gone exactly as planned, which has become a sore point for the Biden administration. Now, there appears to be another wrinkle to the story.

It seems U.S. citizens might have to pay to escape Afghanistan.

When the Afghan government fell to Taliban forces, it became immediately clear that any U.S. citizens should attempt to evacuate. And one would assume our government would handle it.

Unfortunately, the government didn’t handle any aspect of the evacuations well, according to multiple sources and reports.

And this new report could cause President Biden’s reputation to fall another notch because if accurate, it’s bound to annoy American residents.

As first reported by Politico, sources are saying Biden’s State Department were asking for payments from American passengers to get out of Afghanistan. And the cost isn’t cheap.

    Via The Daily Wire:

A report published on Thursday alleged that the Biden administration was charging U.S. citizens for evacuation flights out of Afghanistan, and even more for non-citizens.

The Politico report says that while U.S. officials said evacuation flights from Kabul would be free, people actually in Afghanistan are saying this isn’t true.

In fact, one person said Americans were having to shell out as much as $2,000 to get a ticket out of the embattled country.

The State Department hasn’t denied the allegation, saying U.S. law says evacuation assistance to U.S. citizens is provided “on a reimbursable basis to the maximum extent practicable.”

So essentially, the Biden administration can request payment for flights out of Afghanistan, even from American citizens.

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) quickly sprang into action following this report, saying she was drawing up a law that would ban the government from charging Americans for evacuation flights.

To add to the report, another source cites a State Department webpage with information on the matter.

In answer to the question, “will the U.S. government pay for my evacuation if it is needed?” the answer provided is:

No. U.S. law requires that the assisted evacuation of private U.S. citizens or third country nationals be provided ‘on a reimbursable basis to the maximum extent practicable.’

However, we do understand that you may not be able to access your own money during a crisis. For evacuation transportation that we arrange to transport you out of a crisis location, you do not have to pay before you board.

The page says the cost of transport will vary, and you’re also responsible for any other travel costs like hotel, food, clothing, medication, etc.

It does say that you might be eligible for emergency financial assistance if you can’t pay, but otherwise, the allegations appear to hold water.

They could – and apparently are, in some cases – asking for payment to evacuate Afghanistan, which doesn’t sit well with politicians like Rep. Tenney. Many citizens are crying foul, too.

This is another chapter in the concerning Afghanistan saga that continues to unfold.

Right now, the Biden administration is taking a lot of heat for its decisions in the past month or so, and you can expect the criticism to intensify as time goes on.

Whether or not this hurts Democrats in future elections – the midterms in 2022, for example – remains to be seen. But currently, Biden’s team is facing a lot of difficult questions.
    Key Takeaways:

Reports say some U.S. citizens stuck in Afghanistan are being forced to pay for their evacuation flights (up to $2,000).
The State Department says the law allows for reimbursement, or emergency financial assistance.
But U.S. citizens can still be charged initially. Rep. Claudia Tenney has kicked off legislation to stop this from happening.

White House Says ‘Mission Was Accomplished’ in Afghanistan

(ConservativeInsider.org) – After a tumultuous week in Afghanistan with little transparency from the White House, the Biden administration appears to be doing more damage in an attempt to control the current narrative. Rather than acknowledging the chaos that currently grips Afghanistan and the estimated 10,000, or more, Americans still stranded in the nation, the White House released a video. In it, a junior official declared that our “mission was accomplished” in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, August 18, Jon Finer, Biden’s Principal Deputy National Security Advisor, donned a bright pink tie to deliver a short address to the nation on Twitter, shared here by the White House:

    Joe Hoft
    2 minutes

As the California governor recall election takes off, efforts to sabotage the Elder candidacy and those who voted for the recall are in full force.

There are already reports of efforts to steal the California governor election for Gavin Newsom. No one likes Newsom. He was horrible over the past year in instituting draconian measures to inhibit freedom during the COVID crisis. He is hated.

So the Democrats have to cheat some more.

A couple of examples are provided below.
