The General said he was confident that the Afghan Army would be able to resist the Taliban.
It seems to me more of the Left living in a fantasy world where everything they do is right and will work out alright because they do it.
Another part is refusing to believe that a culture can be all that bad, in spite of the evidence.
(Remember the KGB guy, Yuri Bezmenov: Even if you show them the evidence they still won’t believe it.)
I remember the Arab spring, and Robert Spencer saying right from the start, no it wasn’t an Arab spring.
If they really are surprised that Kabul fell so quickly, and not just saying so. Then it’s also partly culpable ignorance.
Otherwise how is it that I and probably most people reading this site are not surprised at all.
