Reader’s Links for August 1st, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. The Awareness Foundation Covid 19 Roundtable
    In One Place – July 30, 2021

Fourteen of the worlds highest-profile doctors, all specialists in their own fields, come together to discuss the dangers that we all face from the Covid 19 pandemic. They discuss in detail the merits and the dangers posed by the vaccines that are being rolled out and pushed onto society.

Hear their honest opinions and learn about the censorship that they have all faced from speaking out. Discussing together in one place for the first time, learn from the experts and heed their warnings.

    M. Despite the low numbers of the poll this seems to be the feeling of most such. However, IMO this is exactly what the traitors in the DNP are waiting for: an excuse to set the military as well as blatantly(now) the FBI/DoJ etc. onto conservatives. The FEMA camps (see “gulags” are ready and waiting as are that > 1 billion rounds of ammunition purchased by the Kenyan and the woke fairies running the military.
    ……………
A stunning new survey found that nearly half of Republican voters believe the time is coming soon when Americans will have to take the law into their own hands for a number of reasons.

The poll, conducted by the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, found that 47% of Republicans surveyed agreed with the statement that “patriotic Americans have to take the law into their own hands.”

    • The left wants the Civil war but they will loose, the military isn’t made up of organic robots and from what I have seen the war fighting portion of the military (as opposed to the politically reliable bureaucrats that make up the Brass at the Pentagon) are not going to oppress the people of the US. Then are the Guard units that while they are no longer State Militias are still work, live and to an extent train in their home towns. These are all combat experienced units that will fight to protect their families and friends. Also some of the States are forming State Militias

It is unlikely that the kinetic portion of the civil war will start until after the 2022 elections, the right wants to try the ballot box one more time and the left wants more time to force out the non politically correct soldiers. The latter will work to our advantage, they can force them out of the military but they can’t remove their skills. These will be prime candidates for the recruiters for the State Militias.

Given the Guard Units that will remain loyal to their oath to the Constitution, the State Militias and the large pool of Citizens Militia (armed civilians some of them well trained vets) to draw from to flesh out the Militia units it is highly unlikely the left will win the war they are fomenting.

  3. A personal experience that I had the other day: instead of wearing ‘the mask’, I had been wearing a face shield – one through which my face is visible.

When at a major chain store, a tiny human (about 10 months old, in my estimate) saw me and his eyes went huge, his facial expression one of total non-comprehension and amazement, just staring at me…as if he had never seen a stranger’s face before!

This may seem a little thing, in the grand scheme of the world, but I cannot stop thinking about it – that little face keeps haunting me.

    • “..a tiny human (about 10 months old, in my estimate)….

I met his Australian little twin brother the other day, in a doctor’s waiting room.

Of course I know that, if it all was “about our health”, face masks would be verboten…and I avoid places where they are obligatory, so I am not very used of having these humiliating things in my face. By the time I had seen the doctor, I had nearly forgotten the face nappy in my face (especially as I could still breathe, since I had cut little slits into it which were not visible but let me breathe somewhat.

On my way out, there was this terminally cute little toddler, looking at me and I gave him, what I considered my brightest, sweetest, most inviting smile. Mister Toddler did not react to it at all, his eyes were on me, but not really “alive”. It took me quite a while to realise that this rejection was not “personal”.

…This may seem a little thing, in the grand scheme of the world, but I cannot stop thinking about it – that little face keeps haunting me….

      Ditto.

A great deal has been written already about FBI involvement in the plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Rather than rehash the particulars of the case – which include one of the FBI agents involved being arrested for violent domestic abuse (see here as well) – I commend to readers several of the excellent treatments done by other sources; e.g., here, here, here, here, and here.

I want to make one brief observation about the kidnapping plot, because I haven’t seen it emphasized (or even really mentioned) elsewhere.

  6. SKY NEWS AUSTRALIA – YouTube’s Sky News Australia suspension ‘disturbing’ assault on freedom of thought

Digital Editor Jack Houghton argues YouTube’s decision to suspend Sky News Australia is a disturbing attack on the ability to think freely.

The freedom to engage in debate and challenge conventional thinking and wisdoms were not always accepted as human rights.

Philosophically the notion has existed for millennia with the most modern interpretations gaining their foothold in Greek debating chambers.

It has changed shape frequently and even been snuffed out by leaders of more totalitarian persuasions.

If a society was lucky, it returned. If not, poverty, starvation and horror tended to follow.

Holodomor, Auschwitz and Mao, are just three historical examples.

So important is your right to communicate freely, without interference, that it was declared a human right in 1948.

“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers,” Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reads.

This human right to be free to share your opinions through “any media”, whether it be criticisms of government policy, or disputing conventional thinking, is nearly absolute.

    But it is also fickle.

And – if we allow it – easily snuffed out like many leaders have done before.

Sky News Australia has been temporarily suspended from posting on the Google-owned platform YouTube for publishing opinion content the tech giant disagrees with.

Among the videos deemed unpalatable for societal consumption were debates around whether masks were effective and whether lockdowns were justified when considering their adverse health outcomes.

The stance taken by some commentators at this network was that masks are not effective in containing outbreaks, particularly when mandated outside in the fresh air. Some also took issue with the frequency and mechanisms of locking down Australians.

Other commentators vehemently disagreed, and their views were also published.

The science is certainly not clear on either of these two points.

For example, at the beginning of the pandemic the World Health Organisation discouraged the use of lockdowns to treat small outbreaks and instead argued they should be used to ease the burden of hospitalisations on health systems running out of beds.

This is certainly not how Australia is handling the situation.

And on the issue of masks, I wonder when America’s chief COVID-19 advisor Anthony Fauci will be banned from YouTube?

He did, after all, declare in October that masks are not needed outside: “there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask”.

And in since leaked emails dating back to the start of the pandemic he also wrote the following:

“Masks are really for infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected rather than protecting uninfected people from acquiring infection.

“The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through material. It might, however, provide some slight benefit in keep out gross droplets if someone coughs or sneezes on you.

“I do not recommend that you wear a mask, particularly since you are going to a very low risk location.”

I make these points not to suggest Fauci had some nefarious motive in making these comments, only to highlight that in a pandemic the flow of information changes rapidly.

In the case of Sky News Australia’s now removed content, most of it dates back to the same year Fauci made those comments.

But YouTube is looking at the debates and discussions through the lens of contemporary health advice.

Another issue is that YouTube’s approach to policing debate around COVID-19 policies appears arbitrarily focused against conservative voices.

I am yet to be informed of President Joe Biden’s YouTube and Facebook ban after uttering this false sentence: “You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.”

YouTube or Facebook have also not banned commercial media outlets which falsely claim Sky News Australia Presenters, such as Alan Jones have an anti-vaccination stance.

So insulting, erroneous and lazy are these stories that none of these outlets have published the fact that Jones has both encouraged people to get the AstraZeneca vaccines and taken it himself.

The man has seven blood clots on his lungs and still, he took the vaccine and encouraged others to do so.

Sky News Australia commentators have all encouraged vaccines because they know it is a path out of lockdown.

Meanwhile Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young has actively campaigned against people under the age of 40 getting AstraZeneca, completely at odds with World Health Organisation’s advice.

No ban for the Queensland Labor government and no ban for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation which published the comments or Channel 7 which put them on YouTube.

It is hard not to look at some of these tech giant censorship decisions as being based on one factor, the political persuasion of the person making the comments.

There is also a broader issue with the mechanisms of fact-checking COVID-19 discussions.

If YouTube is using the World Health Organisation as the adjudicator of truth, then it must ban the World Health Organisation itself.

In one of the more egregious errors of the pandemic the World Health Organisation insisted that the virus was not airborne.

It took a full year of countries battling the virus for that falsehood to be accepted by the WHO.

Or perhaps this false statement that praised China for its transparency in the early days of the pandemic.

“The Committee emphasized that the declaration of a PHEIC should be seen in the spirit of support and appreciation for China, its people, and the actions China has taken on the front lines of this outbreak, with transparency, and, it is to be hoped, with success. In line with the need for global solidarity, the Committee felt that a global coordinated effort is needed to enhance preparedness in other regions of the world that may need additional support for that.”

And this statement where the WHO told countries not to implement trade restrictions despite the fact it had full knowledge of COVID-19 outbreaks across the globe.

“The Committee does not recommend any travel or trade restriction based on the current information available,” WHO doctors wrote in early 2020.

YouTube’s COVID-19 policies “prohibit content which contradicts local health authorities’ or the World Health Organization’s (WHO) medical information about COVID-19”.

Therefore, what the WHO decides to say publicly becomes the only acceptable line in conversations.

If YouTube’s COVID-19 misinformation policy was around in the early days of the pandemic, people would be banned for criticising China’s transparency, saying the virus seems to be airborne or calling for limitations on international travel.

No one body should have that power – let alone an organisation with such a poor track record.

Even more concerning is what this does to the freedom of debate and conversation.

You have a right to debate Australia’s COVID-19 policies. Science, and the government’s response to that science, are two very different things.

If that conversation is stifled our political leaders will be free to act with immunity, without justification and lacking any sufficient scrutiny from the public.

Your freedom to think will be extinguished.

Activists to rally in cities across Brazil Aug. 1 in support of switchover to use of printed election ballots. Disruptions likely.

Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro plan to stage a series of rallies in cities across Brazil on Aug.
    1. The purpose of the action is to call for the nation to switch from using electronic voting machines during elections to printed ballots, a move that proponents assert will ensure that elections can be audited.

[…]The question of electronic versus paper ballots has become controversial in Brazil, with President Bolsonaro pushing for the country to switch to printed ballots. With his support base shrinking, Bolsonaro has begun insisting that the change is necessary in order to prevent fraud in the nation’s 2022 general election and has made statements suggesting he could refuse to accept the outcome of the vote unless printed ballots are used. Although Brazil’s Electoral Court has invited the administration to submit any evidence it may have of election fraud, as yet no such documentation has reportedly been filed.

[…]This week, he suggested that if Congress does not approve a constitutional amendment to make it compulsory to print out electronic votes, he might not run.

reuters – Brazil’s Bolsonaro escalates rhetoric over electoral fraud

Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro pleaded on Thursday for the adoption of printed ballots that can be counted, alleging that it is necessary to avoid fraud in the country’s electronic voting system in next year’s election.

“I want elections next year, but clean, democratic and sincere elections,” he said in his weekly social media webcast to supporters.

Bolsonaro showed a series of internet video clips as alleged evidence of past fraud, maintaining that democracy was at risk in Brazil.

Critics say that Bolsonaro, like former U.S. President Donald Trump, is sowing election doubts to pave the way for him not to accept defeat in 2022.

With his popularity falling after overseeing the world’s second deadliest coronavirus outbreak, opinion polls show he trails former leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, though neither of them has officially announced they will run.

Bolsonaro has insisted for months that Brazil should adopt the paper ballot, even though a constitutional amendment changing the electoral system has not gained much traction in Congress.

He advocates a mixed system in which voters submit ballots at electronic urns, which also print out votes that can be counted if the result is challenged.

Brazil’s top electoral authority, the TSE, has refuted unfounded allegations by Bolsonaro that there was fraud in the 2014 election, saying electronic voting can be audited well. Even the loser in 2014, Aécio Neves, who was defeated by Lula’s candidate Dilma Rousseff in a close election, said it was fair.

The escalation of Bolsonaro’s claims of electoral fraud came at a fraught time, just days after a bombshell newspaper report that Brazil’s defense minister had issued a threat that the 2022 election would not take place unless printed ballots were used.

The Estado de S. Paulo story said Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto, a former army general, had said this to House Speaker Arthur Lira via an interlocutor. Reuters was unable to independently verify the story, which cited anonymous sources.
