Reader’s Links for July 1, 2021

Today is Dominion Day in Canada, first diluted by Trudeau the 1st and renamed “Canada Day”, perhaps to negate people’s understanding of our history as a dominion. But given the blatantly communist and authoritarian moves by the Trudeau government in the past few years, the chances of it still being Canada in any meaningful way is diminishing by the week.

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  3. cnn – White House to deploy response teams focused on combating Delta variant of Covid-19

[…]These teams — made up of officials from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency — will go into communities where officials are worried about a potentially deadly combination: low vaccination rates and a significant presence of the highly transmissible form of the virus.

[…] These response teams will conduct surge testing, provide therapeutics like monoclonal antibodies and deploy federal personnel to areas that need support staff for vaccinations.

The White House coronavirus team is spearheading this effort and officials expect the teams will help with everything from boosting testing, providing supplies and potentially increasing paid media efforts targeting regions where vaccinations are low.

    • By what logic is such a move better than assessing and sharing the profile of risk for treated illness vs. vaccine? Imagine how ludicrous it would be for the government to send us support teams so we could select the postal service over its private competitors. We have agency and the ability to make decisions in our own best interest based on our own observations and our impression of whether the government has been forthcoming with data.

  5. DAILY MAIL Pfizer says it plans to ask for FDA approval of its COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 by fall

Pfizer Inc and its German partner BioNTech SE plan to ask for FDA emergency use authorization of its COVID-19 vaccine in children under age 12 by fall

Dr Alejandra Gurtman, a Pfizer executive, said the company would apply for approval in kids aged 5-11 by September or October and YOUNGER KIDS SOON AFTER

The trial is examining the safety and efficacy of the vaccine in 4,500 children at 90 sites in the U.S., Finland, Poland and Spain

Parents and doctors have been debating about whether or not to vaccine children because, although they do fall sick, they make up 0.1% of COVID death
    —————————————————————————–
Pfizer Inc and its German partner BioNTech SE plan to ask the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve their COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 11 and younger by fall.

The vaccine was authorized for emergency use by the FDA in late December 2020 for Americans aged 16 and older and in May 2021 for those aged 12 and older.

Dr Alejandra Gurtman, vice president of vaccine clinical research and development at Pfizer, appeared at a virtual symposium on Wednesday held by Johns Hopkins University and the University of Washington to discuss details about pediatric vaccine trials.

She said the companies are planning to first ask for approval in kids between ages five and 11, and then for youngsters below age five.

‘We are planning for emergency use authorization submission for the older age group, that is the five to 11, in September [or] October of this year, and the younger group to follow soon thereafter,’ she said.

The pediatric trial was launched in March 2021 with the two-shot vaccine being tested in 4,500 participants.

Children have been split into three age groups: ages six months to two years, ages two to five years and ages five to 11.

Kids between ages six months and five years are being given three microgram doses and those between ages five and 11 are being given 10 microgram doses.

For comparison, people above age 12 who receive the vaccine are given 30 microgram doses.

The trial is currently being conducted at 90 centers in the U.S., Finland, Poland and Spain, Gurtman said at the symposium.

In each group, about two-thirds will receive the two doses 21 days apart and the remaining third will be given the placebo.

The team will analyze the safety and efficacy of the vaccine in children and take blood samples to measure antibody levels.

If the FDA approves the vaccine, the trial will be unblinded at the six-month follow-up and kids who received the placebo will be offered the vaccine.

Pfizer is not the only company currently conducting clinical trials in children.

In mid-March, Moderna Inc announced it had dosed the first participants of its study, looking at its vaccine in children ages 6 months to less than 12 years, but does not expect results until early 2022.

Additionally, in the UK, AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford are trialing their vaccine in children between ages six and 17.

Children are often the last group to be tested during clinical trials because they are not merely little adults.

Their bodies and immune systems behave differently, meaning they might have different treatment needs.

What’s more, children may need different doses or needle sizes depending on their height, weight and age – which is why most children are only vaccinated after safety has been well-documented in the adult population.

In a recent poll, conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation, parents were asked if they would get their child immunized once a COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and available for their child’s age group.

Only about three in 10 parents – 29 percent – of children under 18 said they would get their child vaccinated ‘right away.’

The poll also found 15 percent only plan to vaccinate their children if the school requires it and 19 percent said their child will definitely not be getting vaccinated.

What’s more, although children can contract COVID-19 and pass the disease on to others, they tend to not get very ill

More than four million children have tested positive for the virus as of Thursday, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, but only make up 0.1 percent of all deaths.

Dr. Vivek Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General, discusses the dangers of the delta variant and the effectiveness of the various vaccines against it.

He also addresses the need for masks, given the new variants.

[…]World Health Organization officials urged fully vaccinated people to continue to wear masks, social distance and practice other pandemic-related safety measures as the delta variant spreads across the globe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, however, affirmed Wednesday that it’s leaving it up to states and local health officials to set guidelines around mask-wearing.

Murthy said the CDC guidance was based on giving people flexibility.

“The CDC, in its guidance, essentially, was giving people flexibility and choice but wanted people to know that, if you are fully vaccinated, your risk of getting this virus or passing it on is low, which is why it said masks are not required indoors or outdoors, if you are fully vaccinated,” Murthy said.

After more than a year of COVID-19, we’ve become familiar with complex medical terminology and difficult virological concepts.

But we also realize it’s not going away that easily.

Britain and the US are having trouble convincing more people to get vaccinated; the new Delta variant is spreading rapidly.

Vast regions, like Africa, still lack vaccines. In Australia, where several cities are re-introducing restrictions to try to contain new COVID-19 clusters, some linked to the Delta variant.

Sydney and Darwin have begun new lockdowns, while other cities are re-introducing mask wearing.

Only 5 percent of the population in Australia has been fully vaccinated.

    • Germany: Seehofer slams ‘absolutely irresponsible’ UEFA over Euros crowds

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer condemned UEFA as ‘absolutely irresponsible’ for the number of spectators at Euro 2020 games, at a press conference in Berlin on Thursday.

“I have the suspicion that it’s all about commerce again. And commerce must not overshadow the protection of the population against infection,” said Seehofer, who also stressed the importance of social distancing and hygiene rules.

“I can only appeal to UEFA once again not to pass this on to the local health authorities, but a sports association should clearly declare: We don’t want it this way and we are reducing the number of spectators,” he added.

German Health Minister Jens Spahn also underlined the threat posed by the DELTA VARIANT warning that it would soon be ‘dominant’ in Germany.

“I expect that before the end of July we will see that Delta accounts for 70-80 percent of the infections that take place in our country,” he said, adding that the goal in the face of this was to keep infections as low as possible while speeding up vaccinations.

Spahn also highlighted the progress already made saying “over 55 percent of the population has already received the first vaccination, that is almost 46 million citizens,” while “37.3 percent have already had the second vaccination.”

For the upcoming Euro 2020 semi-finals and finals at Wembley 60,000 spectators are set to be admitted despite the UK recording its highest number of new COVID-19 cases since January on Wednesday, with the Delta variant accounting for roughly 99 percent of infections. UEFA has defended itself as adhering to the guidance of local health authorities on spectator numbers.

Germany’s coronavirus infection rates remain low but the incidence of the Delta variant has been rising steadily according to the Robert Koch Institute, who estimate that it already represents over 50 percent of new cases.

      SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Horst Seehofer, German Interior Minister (German): “I think this position of UEFA is absolutely irresponsible, because we are living in a time of pandemic and especially in such countries like Great Britain, where the situation is very strong and we all know, we have to keep reminding ourselves, that contact avoidance and certain hygiene regulations are indispensable to overcome the infections one day.”

SOT, Horst Seehofer, German Interior Minister (German): “I have the suspicion that it’s all about commerce again. And commerce must not overshadow the protection of the population against infection.”

SOT, Horst Seehofer, German Interior Minister (German): “And I can only appeal to UEFA once again not to pass this on to the local health authorities, but a sports association should clearly declare: We don’t want it this way and we are reducing the number of spectators.”

SOT, Jens Spahn, German Health Minister (German): “Delta will soon be the dominant variant in Germany, too. I expect that before the end of July we will see that Delta accounts for 70-80 percent of the infections that take place in our country as well. The decisive factor is the conditions under which this happens. The goal is clear for us. The aim is to keep the absolute number of infections as low as possible and at the same time to further increase the vaccination rate.”

SOT, Jens Spahn, German Health Minister (German): “The number of new infections is also continuing to fall and at the same time we are keeping up the pace of vaccination. As of today, after almost one million vaccinations yesterday, we have been able to give more than 75 million vaccinations in Germany. Over 55 percent of the population has already received a first vaccination, that is almost 46 million citizens. By the way, that’s two-thirds of all adults in Germany who have been vaccinated at least once. Two out of three adults in Germany have been vaccinated at least once. That’s not enough yet, but it’s a good intermediate stage. 37.3 percent have already had the second vaccination, that’s over 31 million of the citizen.”

Underlying Medical Conditions and Severe Illness Among 540,667 Adults Hospitalized WITH COVID-19, March 2020–March 2021

      Abstract
      Introduction

Severe COVID-19 illness in adults has been linked to underlying medical conditions. This study identified frequent underlying conditions and their attributable risk of severe COVID-19 illness.

      Methods

We used data from more than 800 US hospitals in the Premier Healthcare Database Special COVID-19 Release (PHD-SR) to describe hospitalized patients aged 18 years or older with COVID-19 from March 2020 through March 2021. We used multivariable generalized linear models to estimate adjusted risk of intensive care unit admission, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death associated with frequent conditions and total number of conditions.

      Results

Among 4,899,447 hospitalized adults in PHD-SR, 540,667 (11.0%) were patients with COVID-19, of whom 94.9% had at least 1 underlying medical condition. Essential hypertension (50.4%), disorders of lipid metabolism (49.4%), and obesity (33.0%) were the most common. The strongest risk factors for death were obesity (adjusted risk ratio [aRR] = 1.30; 95% CI, 1.27–1.33), anxiety and fear-related disorders (aRR = 1.28; 95% CI, 1.25–1.31), and diabetes with complication (aRR = 1.26; 95% CI, 1.24–1.28), as well as the total number of conditions, with aRRs of death ranging from 1.53 (95% CI, 1.41–1.67) for patients with 1 condition to 3.82 (95% CI, 3.45–4.23) for patients with more than 10 conditions (compared with patients with no conditions).

      Conclusion

Certain underlying conditions and the number of conditions were associated with severe COVID-19 illness. Hypertension and disorders of lipid metabolism were the most frequent, whereas obesity, diabetes with complication, and anxiety disorders were the strongest risk factors for severe COVID-19 illness. Careful evaluation and management of underlying conditions among patients with COVID-19 can help stratify risk for severe illness.

    Quote of the day

“The three/ fifths comprise is often quoted by ignorant and / or anti-American people who destain America and want to leave the impression America’s founders
believed America’s blacks were 3/5 of a human being. This is a lie. The Declaration of Independence, the IDEAL for the Great American experiment, identifies all human beings as being equal in the eyes of our Creator, God.

At the time, the North opposed slavery while the South supported it. If the founders counted the black population as 1 full vote — for the purpose of determining Congressional representation — the South’s numbers in Congress would have grown making it extremely difficult to abolish slavery. The fact that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Milley, who mistakenly said 3/4 not 3/5, perpetuates this lie during open testimony before the Congress is more evidence of his ignorance of the very foundation upon which his Oath of Office rests.”

  7. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bill-cosby-enjoyed-pizza-cracking-jokes-first-night-home-prison-release

You know what I think? I think the left went after Bill Cosby because he’s politically conservative. A lot of people don’t know that because the MSM doesn’t want you to know that, but the most prominent and senior voice (Cosby) of the American Black polity is a conservative and they’ve been eying him suspiciously for decades. To some people, Bill Cosby presents a very unpleasant political reality with his refusal to bend the knee to the Democrat slave-masters. Well, they’ve destroyed him for sure now. Way to go, Nazis…

Read the comments after this video and see how utterly trashed Cosby’s reputation is, but it simply doesn’t add up. I don’t think most people really understand how incredibly easy it is to score with women when you’re rich and famous. Rock stars have their roadies sort them out at the door and just allow the “10s” to the backstage afterparty. I was working at a big nightclub long ago with tons of black pimps with leopard skin Rolls Royces and huge hats as well as “Wilt the Stilt”, Wilt Chamberlain, and the word was that old Wilt had had 20,000 women in his amorous career. And that doesn’t surprise me. Some of these big successful bastards can be really horny and they don’t need any surprise “tricks” to get girls to sleep with them. I simply do not believe that these ladies did not know that Bill was into Qualudes since that would be well known in the right circles and a lot of people were into a lot of drugs back in the days…

The average person thinks it makes perfect sense that wrinkled old Bill Cosby had to fool girls into having sex with him but I know for a fact they would have been lined up around the block for the privilege… People don’t understand what a huge star Bill Cosby used to be…

And this “Constand” woman. I don’t believe a word of it. She’s already gotten 3.8 million dollars out of Cosby and now wants another 20 – plus Cosby dying in prison. Has it not occurred to anybody that a girl might just tell a little fib in exchange for never having to work another day in her life and driving a brand new Mercedes Benz convertible? What actual proof exists Constand isn’t just lying in order to get free money?

      • I worked with a guy who did multiple girls every day. One day we counted six, which wasn’t particularly unusual. And that’s just a minor star. But my point isn’t about the number “26,000”. Maybe Wilt is exaggerating, but a few thousand is not out of the question at all. And Bill Cosby was the top of the top of the heap…

I can assure you that back in the days Bill Cosby was fighting them off with a stick and absolutely did not need to drug or coerce anybody to have sex. He could set up a date with a gorgeous young babe with a few hand-signals off the stage. I think he just had a thing for having sex on quaaludes and some unscrupulous people are using that to separate him from his money and I do not believe that any of these girls are as naive and helpless as they pretend…

Ladies: If you are unfortunate enough to be a victim of actual rape phone the police at the earliest possible time and try to get the guy thrown in jail. I absolutely never believe any of the ones that come ten years after the fact and wind up winning enough money to take it easy for the rest of their lives…

At one point the pro-Israel crowd sang a slogan, which prompted him and his co-organizers to complain to nearby police that the Zionist demonstrators were using “fighting words.” What were they singing?” I asked. “Well” he answered. “I don’t know Hebrew, but my friends said it sounded a lot like Arabic and meant ‘Death to the Arabs!'” Later that week I learned that a friend had been at the rally on the Zioinst side. “Do you remember anyone singing?” I asked her. It took her a moment to recall all of the different slogans and chants and words at the demonstration, but she was still unsure what I was referring to, so I explained what I had heard. Witha sad laugh, she shared with me that indeed there had been a song, “Am Israel Chai”–the people of Israel live. The words are cognate to the Arabic language, which then apparently computes them in an anti-Zionist mind to get: Israel alive means they want me dead.

People need to look into the BioLevel 4 lab that is being planned for the middle of beef country in Kansas. What could go wrong? People of Kansas need to step up and protest this proposed BioWeapon Lab.
