Reader’s Links for June 9, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

This is how ridiculous things have become. We see every detail of Officer Chauvin right up to his life being ended by the courts as George Floyd is raised from common street thug to patron saint of the Black Civil Rights Movement, but they won’t even release the name of whichever officer shot Ashli Babbit for nothing more than stepping unarmed through a broken door. If the cop had been a white Trump supporter and Ashli had been a black Democrat her name would now be known from Moscow to London to Beijing. The Iranians would be pointing to Ashli’s racist murder as proof that the US is a very bad place indeed and that so-called “democracy” simply does not work and that freedom of speech is bad, bad, bad…

    • George Floyd and Ashli Babbit were both involved in illegal activities that required force from the police. George was asked to comply, resisted and died under restraint. I do not know if Ashli was given the chance to comply while breaking in, but to have assumed she was armed may have be deemed reasonable.

Rather than those who died due to their criminal activities, the actual murderers of the innocent people may be better contrasted for your argument of race-baiters using it for their ownconvenience:

“On July 15, 2017, Justine Damond (née Ruszczyk),[2] a 40-year-old Australian-American woman,[3] was fatally shot by 33-year-old Somali-American Minneapolis Police Department officer Mohamed Noor after she had called 9-1-1 to report the possible assault of a woman in an alley behind her house”

“In April 2019, Noor was convicted of third-degree murder and manslaughter, but acquitted of intentional second-degree murder.”
      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Justine_Damond

In Minnesota third-degree murder is defined as “unintentional killing of another through an eminently dangerous act committed with a depraved mind and without regard for human life.”

Where that depraved mind come – from the Socialist government using it for Hate Crime bonus-politics, or from the individual calling it their religion – is up for speculation as to how hatred of others is be propagated.

GA Poll Worker Confesses UNDER OATH That 10 to 20 THOUSAND Biden Absentee Ballots They Counted Were FAKE
Suzi Voyles, the poll manager for Fulton County, Georgia, discovered a disturbingly peculiar pattern of regularity in the markings for Joseph R. Biden when she looked through a big stack of mail-in ballots in November.

The absentee ballots all had flawlessly filled-in ovals for Biden, with the exception that each of the darkening bubbles had an identical white space inside it in the shape of a tiny crescent, indicating they’d been inscribed with toner ink rather than a pen or pencil.

She also noticed that all of the ballots were printed on different stock paper than the others she handled during a statewide hand recount of the razor-thin Nov. 3 presidential election, which added to her suspicions. None of the mail-in ballots had been folded or wrinkled, as she had seen in the past with ballots that had been removed from envelopes.

    • Perhaps our current state of lockdowns and medical tyranny are being methodically set up for the crowd control required when millions of desperate people realize their wealth is gone in the transition to the new world reserve currency, and their erupting anger when they realize they’ve been manipulated, that they are broke, that they have no meaningful pension for their old age, and that the bankers are to blame. I certainly hope I’m wrong, however if this is the case the catastrophic currency crisis expected by them must be epic. Are the climate change and medical cons cover for historical banker and politician malfeasance, and also cover for the seizing of ultimate power?

Acting attorney general Jeffrey Rosen declined requests from President Donald Trump to investigate ItalyGate according to a report published by the New York Times. The request to investigate was made through President Trump’s Chief of Staff at the time Mark Meadows.

According to the Times’ report published Saturday Meadows sent Mr. Rosen a link to a video posted on YouTube by former CIA station chief Brad Johnson.

A video posted by Mr. Johnson in late December detailed Italian media reports that said the U.S. presidential election was hacked by intelligence operatives acting out of Italy, among other countries. That video, since removed by YouTube, served as the catalyst for U.S. coverage of the scandal which would come to be known as ItalyGate for many independent media outlets including this one.

According to the Times Mr. Rosen wrote in an email to another Justice Department official that he was asked to set up a meeting between Mr. Johsnon and the FBI, had refused, and was then asked again.

  5. Columnist ‘fired for saying Harry and Meghan could call baby Georgina Floydina’

A Telegraph columnist claims she’s been fired after saying Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should have called their baby ‘Georgina Floydina’.

Julie Burchill was slammed online after tweeting it was ‘a missed opportunity’ for the new parents, who named their child Lilibet Diana after the Queen and the duke’s late mother.

The journalist took to Facebook yesterday to announce she had been sacked – but suggested she hadn’t been happy at the newspaper as they had ‘rejected her edgy column ideas’.

Her post read: ‘I’ve been sacked by the Telegraph – it’s been a lovely five years, and I’ll always be grateful to them for ending my Wilderness Years.

‘However, I’d be lying if I said that I hadn’t often moaned to my husband recently about them always rejecting my *edgy* column ideas and giving me more pedestrian ones – which I’ve done splendidly anyway.

‘I hope you can see my archive here. Onwards and upwards!’

Her comments referring to black man George Floyd, who was murdered by a white police officer, were published only on Twitter and did not appear on the Telegraph.

Metro.co.uk understands Telegraph bosses haven’t ruled out using Burchill as a contributor in future.

It comes as a lawyer who responded to Burchill with her own ‘racist’ comments is suspended from the family law firm she founded.

Joanna Toch, 59, replied to the ‘Georgina Floydina’ tweet saying ‘no Doria? Don’t black names matter?’ in reference to Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland.

Burchill responded that she ‘was hoping for Doria Oprah, the racist rotters’.

    Toch wrote back saying: ‘Doprah?’

The barrister later apologised on Twitter claiming her remarks were ‘a joke’ and saying that she ‘has children of colour’.

But her law firm Family Law Cafe said they had suspended her ‘with immediate effect pending an internal review into her recent comments’.

A statement from the directors said: ‘FLC considers her comments as offensive, unacceptable and highly contradictory to the inclusive manner in which FLC has always and will continue to work with members of all communities in managing the challenges of matrimonial and family disputes.’

Lili’s birth could bring Harry and Meghan back into the royal fold, reports claim.

EU Parliament members approved the final draft of the COVID-19 digital certificate in Brussels, on Tuesday, which will help facilitate travel between members states.

Deputies voted 546 for the new regulations regarding EU citizens, with 93 against and 51 abstentions, and 553 for to 91 against and 46 abstentions regarding third-country nationals.

The certificate, also referred to as a COVID-19 vaccine passport, will be issued in either digital or paper format containing a QR code to be scanned at airports, free of charge.

The document will certify that a person has had a negative test result, recovered from an infection or fully vaccinated against the disease.

The common EU framework will ensure that the certificates are harmonized and verifiable across the union, as well as ensuring against fraud or forgery.

      ========================================

Washington Post – Biden administration to buy 500 million Pfizer coronavirus vaccine doses to donate to the world

The Biden administration is buying 500?million doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine to donate to the world, as the United States dramatically increases its efforts to help vaccinate the global population, according to three people familiar with the plans.

President Biden is slated to announce the plan at the Group of Seven meeting in Britain this week amid growing calls for the United States and other rich countries to play a more substantial role in boosting the global supply of coronavirus vaccine. Biden told reporters Wednesday as he boarded Air Force One to Europe that he would be announcing his global vaccine strategy.

The White House declined to comment, and Pfizer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Biden administration previously announced it would share at least 80?million vaccine doses with the world by the end of June. Last week, the White House detailed plans for how it would allocate 25?million doses, with about 19?million of them being shared with Covax, the World Health Organization-backed initiative to distribute doses around the globe. Roughly 6?million shots would be shared directly with countries experiencing severe coronavirus outbreaks, including India.

The question of how to close the vaccine gap and end the pandemic is expected to be front and center at the G-7 summit this week. In the lead-up to the meeting of wealthy democracies, Biden’s vaccine-sharing strategy has been under intense scrutiny — both at home and abroad.

Congressional Democrats and some health advocates have been calling for the administration to do more. At the same time, Biden’s surprise decision to support a proposal to waive patent protections for coronavirus vaccines has faced strong pushback from the European Union.

Questions about how to proceed have intensified in recent weeks as cases in the United States have receded, and infections have surged in some developing countries without adequate vaccine supply, leading to fresh charges of “vaccine apartheid.”

The gap between vaccines haves and have-nots is vast. More than half the populations in the United States and Britain have had at least one dose, compared with fewer than 2?percent of people in Africa.

So far, the global effort to close that gap has been piecemeal. Some wealthy nations have announced plans to donate surplus doses and have expressed support for the idea of boosting global supply — but specifics on when and how to proceed are scarce.

Covax aims to deliver 2?billion doses by the end of the year, with an eye toward vaccinating 20?percent of the populations of countries in need, but it may not meet that relatively modest target. The initiative has been plagued by funding shortfalls and a severe supply crunch exacerbated by the crisis in India, leading to potentially deadly delays. To date, Covax has delivered 81?million doses to 129 countries.

    • CNN – A link between Covid-19 vaccination and a cardiac illness may be getting clearer

Vaccine advisers to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say there has been a higher-than-expected number of cases of a heart ailment among young people, most often males, who’ve recently received their second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines.

The CDC says the reports of the ailment are “rare” and that “most patients who received care responded well to medicine and rest and quickly felt better.”

[…]The June 1 report by a work group of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices states that within 30 days of receiving the second dose of either Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, “there was a higher number of observed than expected myocarditis/pericarditis cases in 16-24-year-olds.”

[…]This outside group of experts, many of them physicians at academic medical centers, advises the CDC, but doesn’t represent the agency itself. The CDC has not said if the number of cases of the heart ailments is higher than expected.

The CDC says on its website that benefits of Covid-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks “including the risk of myocarditis or pericarditis,”

[…]But a source familiar with the situation told CNN it’s appearing more and more likely that there is a real link between the vaccine and the cases.

“It looks like this is a biological phenomenon rather than a chance event,” the source said. “It looks to be a pattern and not just random.”

      • Seth Frantzman:
Is Iran Suffering From ‘Simple Sabotage?’

Iran has suffered a series of mysterious explosions and fires over the past year. While some of them have targeted sensitive sites, such as the Natanz nuclear facility, many other incidents appear more accidental….

The incidents in Iran lead to questions about whether Israel has overseen a wide-ranging campaign of attacks and sabotage against Iran. Iran has blamed Israel for incidents at Natanz, for instance. And Israeli media have hinted at Mossad’s involvement. However, the larger series of explosions appear to run the gamut from suspicious to seeming like a case of mere aging infrastructure.

Another factor may be at work: Simple sabotage. In 1944 the U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the precursor to the modern CIA, published a classified pamphlet called, “Simple Sabotage Field Manual.”

…The point of the manual was to provide suggestions to help average people, acting individually rather than as part of a network, to carry out sabotage “in such a way as to involve minimum danger of injury, detection or reprisal.”

This OSS manual provides an insight into what may be happening in Iran. The sabotage manual notes that “warehouses, barracks, offices, hotels and factory buildings are outstanding targets for simple sabotage.” They are susceptible to damage: For instance, “fires can be started wherever there is an accumulation of inflammable material.” Warehouses too make for “promising targets.”

…The manual suggests that janitors might purposely accumulate greasy waste and hope it ignites with the flick of a cigarette. “If you are a janitor on night duty, you can be the first to report the fire, but don’t report it too soon….”

Iran may be suffering a spate of simple sabotage. This may not be due to complex Israeli-sponsored attacks on Iran’s infrastructure, but rather the tendency of average Iranians, fed up with their fanatical regime, to permit key facilities to fall apart and naval vessels to catch fire.

“Our Canada is a place where you can’t walk down the streets if you wear a hijab because you will be killed——this is our Canada. We can’t deny it. How many more families will be killed before we do something”?

Well this statement seems to be quite a contrast from Ralph Goodale, the Canadian Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness statement “Don’t draw any conclusions after the shooting on Danforth Avenue in 2018.

July 22, 2018, 29 year old Faisal Husssain, according to the SIU, walked along Danforth Avenue firing at various groups of people several times with a handgun.

Eight months before the shooting, firemen were called to a house in Pickering, Ontario, east of Toronto, were they discovered 31 identical high end handguns, and 42 kilos of carfentanil, a chemical weapon. Fahad Hussain, 31, Faisal’s brother was also found in the house in a coma – perhaps from an over dose and has remained in a coma.

So on the day of the shooting Canadians were not told of the shooters identity. I would have thought, knowing what Ralph Goodale knew about the shooters history Canadians might have been informed, as a matter of an alert. we did not learn his identity for days.

Iran’s claim to support Islamic holy sites is not related to any religious beliefs. Shedding light on the future — and on the Nuclear Deal.

The Western world is in a dire need of another Winston Churchill today. He recognized an irreconcilable enemy in Hitler’s Germany, and understood that appeasement of such an apocalyptic dictatorship would never work. He realized that Hitler must only be dealt with by force. In 1935, it was still possible to stop Hitler and the Nazis, prevent WWII, and the death of 60 million people.

Similarly, the Western powers today are appeasing an apocalyptic dictatorship that is the Islamic Republic of Iran. Some comparisons between today’s Iran and Nazi Germany are unavoidable. Both Khomeini and Hitler were revolutionaries; Khomeini with Islamism, and Hitler with race and racism. The ayatollahs of Iran are expansionists as Nazi Germany was. The Ayatollah regime eliminated its partners in bringing down the Shah of Iran, just as Hitler purged the German army top brass, in order to control the war-making machine. The ayatollahs are using the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) the same way Hitler used the SS: to destroy “undesirables.” The Islamic Republic of Iran, like Hitler’s Nazi Germany, is using proxies to stir trouble in neighboring countries. The Iranian regime will exploit the concessions it will be given by the West, to continue its quest to spread its brand of Pan-Islamism. They will continue to secretly develop their nuclear arsenal with or without a new nuclear agreement, just like Hitler did in rearming Germany in the 1930’s.

A Washington, D.C. man has filed a federal lawsuit against the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), President Joe Biden, and several other agencies, challenging the mask mandate on transportation systems.

Lucas Wall, who describes himself as a “frequent traveler,” argued in his lawsuit (pdf) that having to wear masks on transportation systems is unconstitutional, particularly while traveling within a state.

  17. Author Attacks Individual Gun Rights By Claiming the Second Amendment Is Rooted In Racism – The Truth About Guns
    Dan Zimmermanhttp://www.thetruthaboutguns.com
    2-3 minutes

Civil-rights leaders of the 19th and early 20th centuries also lamented that the right to self-defense was denied them. Fredrick Douglass reacted to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 by editorializing that the best remedy would be “a good revolver, a steady hand, and a determination to shoot down any man attempting to kidnap.”

The late-19th-century civil-rights leader Ida B. Wells argued that one of the lessons of the post–Civil War era, “which every Afro American should ponder well, is that a Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every black home, and it should be used for that protection which the law refuses to give.” T. Thomas Fortune, another black civil-rights activist of the era, argued that it was with a Winchester that the black man could “defend his home and children and wife.”

Now, it should be noted that even if the Second Amendment had been specifically written, as [author of ‘The Second: Race and Guns in a Fatally Unequal America’, Carol] Anderson maintains, under pressure from states in the South that wished to preserve the subjugation of humans, the nation’s sin would have been denying the inalienable right of self-defense to all people.

We don’t attack the idea of free speech simply because people are denied its protections. That fact only accentuates its importance. For most of our history, self-defense was also seen as an immutable right that existed with or without the sanction of the state. “Remember that the musket — the United States musket with its bayonet of steel — is better than all mere parchment guarantees of liberty,” is how Douglass made the case for natural rights. He did it better than many of the Founders. Certainly, he did it better than Anderson.

Two senators have asked the U.S. Marshals Service for information on where U.S. Supreme Court justices might have traveled, saying that it would improve transparency.

“The justices of our highest court are subject to the lowest standards of transparency of any senior officials across the federal government,” wrote Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and John Kennedy (R-La.) in a letter dated June 4, which was made public on Tuesday, according to reports. They asked the Marshals Service for “all documents” related to trips taken by justices over the past decade

The Biden State Department discourages employees from referring to the historic peace agreements signed by Israel and its Arab neighbors by its official name, the Abraham Accords, according to one source with direct knowledge of the Biden administration’s internal decision-making process and emails reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. The name has also been erased from a wide array of official State Department communications as the new administration presses officials to refer to the Trump-era deals as “normalization agreements.”

The Abraham Accords were brokered last year by the outgoing Trump administration and paved the way for Israel to make peace with traditional Arab foes, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and, later, other Muslim nations. The agreements were a capstone of former president Donald Trump’s foreign policy legacy and created a shift in the region that brought leading Arab nations closer to the Jewish state and further from Iran.

The Free Beacon reviewed two internal State Department emails detailing to employees that the agreements will no longer be referred to as the Abraham Accords but only as “normalization agreements.” No reason was given for the policy, the source said. The department also purged the term “Abraham Accords” from its talking points, documents, statements, and official communications, the source said, adding that senior department officials have been very “cagey” about explaining the policy decision and have sought to keep it quiet.

  21. (Richard: The Dems have made vote fraud legal in Vermont.)

Universal mail-in voting becomes law in Vermont

Advocacy groups, civic organizations, and businesses hailed a brand-new law requiring ballots to be mailed to all active Vermont voters in general elections moving forward. The policy that was put in place as a one-time emergency measure in 2020 during the early days of the pandemic.

Governor Scott issued the following statement when signing S.15, an act relating to mailing out ballots, correcting defective ballots, and miscellaneous changes to state election laws: “I’m signing this bill because I believe making sure voting is easy and accessible, and increasing voter participation, is important. Having said that, we should not limit this expansion of access to general elections alone, which already have the highest voter turnout.

“For greater consistency and to expand access further, I am asking the General Assembly to extend the provisions of this bill to primary elections, local elections and school budget votes when they return to session in January.”

Vermont now becomes just the second state after Nevada to pass universal mail-in legislation this year.

Mail-in voting contributed to the shattering of voter participation records in Vermont last year. Nearly 45,000 more votes were cast in 2020 than in any previous Vermont election. Participation was up in all areas of the state and three out of every four votes were cast early, mostly by mail. Voting from home was found to be safe, secure, and overwhelmingly popular.

“More than 9 out of 10 Vermonters support making voting easier,” said Paul Burns, executive director of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group (VPIRG). “This legislation is one big step toward making Vermont the most voter friendly state in the nation. This is something we can all take pride in, especially given the voter suppression efforts underway in other states.”

BLM race riots and pandemic lockdowns made carjacking into big business.

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

Carjacking is booming like no form of crime in Biden’s America. Homicides are up, especially in those cities that defunded their police, pharmacies are going out of business in San Francisco and other cities where shoplifting was legalized, but stealing cars is where it’s really at now.

Carjackings more than doubled in Chicago, and increased 537% in Minneapolis, the capital of police defunding, and around 500% in Washington D.C.

    4 minutes

How did the history of African slavery in the U.S. actually begin?

The New York Times published The 1619 Project by Nikole Hannah-Jones that says the Revolutionary War was fought to preserve slavery. Slavery made the U.S. wealthy. The US original sin was racism. Our culture is built on racism and is an unchangeable part of our society.

The 1619 Project is based on CRT, cultural Marxist critical race theory — only white racism matters and it is systemic in the U.S. It maintains that all blacks are victims (still slaves) and all white people are privileged oppressors (still masters). So there must be monetary and socialized atonement. This theory denigrates the black person as one who is unable to function without help from who? The rest of the world. The 1619 Project is a racist document.

  24. Israeli President to Prince Charles: Let Critically Ill Child Come to Israel for Treatment

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin appealed to England’s Prince Charles on Tuesday to allow a critically ill child to be brought to Israel for medical treatment. In May, a British court ruled that Alta Fixler, age 2, should be taken off life support.

“I am writing to you today on a matter of grave and urgent humanitarian importance,” wrote Rivlin in a letter to the prince.

The court’s decision, he continued, contradicted the beliefs of Alta’s Orthodox Jewish parents, who are also Israeli citizens, and it would be a “tragedy” if their wishes could not be respected.

“Their religious beliefs directly oppose ceasing medical treatment that could extend her life, and [they] have made arrangements for her safe transfer and continued treatment in Israel,” he wrote.

Rivlin’s appeal joins that of Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, who reached out to his UK counterpart Matt Hancock on June 7.

The UK Board of Deputies of British Jews said in support of Edelstein’s appeal on Tuesday, “We welcome Israel’s offer to transfer Alta Fixler for treatment, in accordance with her parents’ wishes. We have written to the Department of Health and Social Care to ask that this be seriously considered.”

  25. ‘ISIS Leader An Israeli Actor’; HonestReporting Investigation Exposes Vice’s Israel Hatred

On Saturday, Vice released yet another one-sided anti-Israel documentary. The propaganda piece includes a shockingly uncritical interview in which Hamas’ claims that it “doesn’t want fighting” and has tried “peaceful resistance” are left unchallenged. Hamas is a US-designated terrorist group that is committed to Israel’s destruction and initiated last month’s war.

It is not the first time that Vice’s bias has been evident, with HonestReporting having critiqued the outlet numerous times over the past months (see here, here and here). Yet while Vice UK editor Zing Tsjeng on March 17 promised to address our repeated concerns, we never received an answer.

This prompted us to delve deeper into the possible reasons why Vice continues to pump out slanted media coverage about Israel. HonestReporting analyzed Twitter accounts of Vice journalists, freelancers and editorial staff, who reported on the recent conflict between the Jewish state and Gaza-based terror groups.

    What we uncovered was shocking…

  26. Intact 1,000-Year-Old Chicken Egg Unearthed in Central Israel

An intact chicken egg dating back to the Islamic period 1,000 years ago was discovered in Yavne, the Israel Antiquities Authority announced on Wednesday.

IAA archaeologists came upon the unbroken egg in an ancient cesspit during large-scale excavations at a site in the central Israeli city that revealed an extensive industrial area from the Byzantine period.

“Eggshell fragments are known from earlier periods, for example in the City of David and at Caesarea and Apollonia,” said the IAA’s Lee Perry Gal, a leading expert on poultry in the ancient world. “But due to the eggs’ fragile shells, hardly any whole chicken eggs have been preserved.”

“Even at the global level, this is an extremely rare find,” added Gal, pointing out that archeological digs occasionally uncover ancient ostrich eggs, whose thick shells preserved them.

“Even today, eggs rarely survive for long in supermarket cartons,” said IAA archaeologist Alla Nagorsky, excavation director at the site where the egg was found. “It’s amazing to think this is a 1,000-year-old find!”

Nagorsky attributes its “unique preservation” to the “conditions in which it lay for centuries, nestled in a cesspit containing soft human waste.”

  27. MONTREAL – Accused in anti-mask case slapped with $11K fine, community service

Mario Roy, who remains detained while he faces more charges, wants his trial moved from Montreal because of the media attention.

A man who was found guilty of contempt of court this year because he offered legal advice while he was subject to a court order not to do so has been ordered to pay $11,000 in fines and to perform 230 hours of community service.

Mario Roy, 49, appeared before Superior Court Justice André Vincent at the Montreal courthouse on Wednesday, where he was sanctioned for having violated a court order issued against him on May 30, 2018.

A different judge’s decision made three years ago ordered Roy to stop pretending he was qualified to give people legal advice. It was issued within the context of Roy’s frequent criticism of Quebec’s youth protection system.

In March, Vincent determined that Roy was in contempt of court when he ignored the judge’s order in April 2019, when he and his group, Unité citoyenne d’enquêtes anti-corruption, posted a message on Facebook claiming they could represent someone in civil court against the youth protection system.

The group also solicited donations to fund their efforts. Roy and the group claimed they could help the family of a 7-year-old girl who died in Granby while she was supposed to be monitored by youth protection.

Last year, Roy posted messages on social media claiming he could advise people on how civilians can legally make citizen’s arrests of politicians and civil servants involved in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

He also advised business owners to reopen their stores while the Quebec government was imposing health measures ordering them closed.

Through an agreement reached between defence lawyer Clemente Monterosso and the Quebec Bar Association, Roy is not allowed to use Facebook, YouTube, Instagram or “all other” forms of social media for a year.

Also, Unité citoyenne d’enquêtes anti-corruption was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.

Roy has two years to perform his community service, and it cannot involve his interests or those of his group.

Meanwhile, Roy remains detained while he faces a series of criminal charges.

In February, a Montreal police investigation generated charges accusing him of criminal harassment and intimidation of two lawyers who work for the Quebec Bar Association.

Roy was released after agreeing to not make reference to the lawyers on social media while his case was pending.

However, in March, he was arrested by the Montreal police and charged with harassing one of the two lawyers — to the point that she feared for her safety — and with intimidating “a justice system participant in order to impede him or her in the performance of his or her duties.”

Since then, Roy has twice been denied bail, and last week he was charged with mischief and conspiracy to commit mischief in connection with an anti-mask protest that closed access to the Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine Tunnel on March 13.

Later on Wednesday, Roy appeared before another Superior Court judge, Éliane Perreault, to deal with some of the criminal charges he faces. He insisted he wants a trial before a jury.

As he has done in the past, Roy launched into a long rant and interrupted Perreault often.

“Mr. Roy, when you speak calmly, your arguments carry more weight,” Perreault said at one point.

Roy said he cannot have a fair trial in Montreal because of the attention media have paid to his civil and criminal cases, and that he hoped to have the trial transferred to a courthouse in Drummondville.

Roy also said he is seeking to have a criminal harassment charge filed against a reporter, and asked that the reporter be singled out and not be allowed to publish articles about his criminal case because he doesn’t want “a tainted jury.”

“File a motion if you want, but as a judge sitting here today, I respect the freedom of the press,” Perreault said.

Roy’s criminal case returns to court on Sept. 8 to set a date for his jury trial.
