Reader’s Links for June 4, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

“We all want to get back to some sense of normal, and the path forward to do that is to get Manitobans vaccinated as soon as possible,” Premier Brian Pallister said Thursday.

He announced grants of up to $20,000 each to community, religious, sports and arts organizations in areas where vaccine uptake has been low. The money can be spent on anything from outreach programs to prizes such as tickets to a sporting event. Pallister also left the door open to providing incentives directly to people.

Thursday that his Coalition Avenir Québec government was also looking at incentives to get more people vaccinated.

“Some people are scared — with no reason — about the vaccine, so we have to explain to them why they need to be vaccinated,” Legault said.

    https://www.vice.com/en/article/5db95k/amazons-cost-saving-routing-algorithm-makes-drivers-walk-into-traffic

Mike, an Amazon delivery driver in central Florida, is accustomed to jogging back and forth across three-lane highways to deliver packages. He has sprinted across busy commercial streets during rush hour, and crossed rural highways on foot at sundown.

“I find the most dangerous to be smaller two-lane highways with almost no room to pull off the road,” Mike told Motherboard in May. (Mike spoke on condition of pseudonymity because he fears he could lose his job for speaking to the press.) “The speed limits on these roads will often be 50-60 mph and we’re having to pull halfway off the road and then [walk across] … oftentimes at night.”

If it were up to him, Mike said, he would never run across a highway with his arms full of packages. But the routing algorithm designed for its Flex app by Amazon’s research scientists often makes it unavoidable, according to a source with direct knowledge of Amazon’s routing algorithm. In North America and Europe, roughly 85,000 contracted delivery drivers rely on this algorithm to do their jobs. While crossing the street in a quiet suburban neighborhood is probably safe, doing so on a 50 mph highway can be deadly.

Motherboard spoke to Amazon delivery drivers who work in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, and California who described sprinting across the street—or the highway—to follow the Flex app’s directions.

This app determines delivery routes for both Amazon’s contracted delivery drivers, who drive Amazon-branded vans, and members of its independent contractor workforce, known as Amazon Flex drivers, who drive their own cars. When a driver has to make deliveries to several addresses that are clustered together, the Flex app combines them into a single stop, rather than make a stop at each address. Drivers call these “group stops,” while Amazon research scientists and engineers tasked with optimizing routes that incorporate hundreds of stops per shift refer to this routing mechanism as “stop consolidation.”

“Stop consolidation is a big thing [at Amazon]. Without it, the routes would be too expensive.”

These stops often include addresses on both sides of a street—or highway. Rather than directing drivers to make a U-turn and deliver packages on one side of the street and then the other, the app instructs drivers to cross the street on foot. Depending on the size and number of packages, the driver might have to walk across the street multiple times, or run in order to meet Amazon’s delivery quotas.

Addendum: during uni vacation when I was 16 I applied for a job as shop assistant in a supermarket just near where I was living. My job was to load shelves. I noticed the “efficiency expert” watching me stack bottles on the shelf, one at a time, and he came over to me and said I should stock them two at a time by rotating my spine with one in each hand. Now then, I was a sprinter and I had and still have incredibly fast reflexes (despite the damage) and I said: “my way is far faster and far less likely to hurt my back”. So he decided to show me how fast he could fill a new shelf. Then I followed using my way. I beat him by some 12 seconds. He looked unhappy but left me to do it my way. Next day I was sacked. No big deal as I was going to leave in 2 weeks when uni restarted but it was an excellent example of how “experts” whether human or digital often have no real idea of the reality of a situation(remember an “expert” is the guy who will give you a thousand reasons why it wont work)

Biden admin informs media outlets that Trump DOJ ‘covertly’ obtained phone records on their reporters

    Image: Wikimedia Commons

Disclosures in May and June 2021 have revealed that the Trump administration issued subpoenas for the phone records of reporters at the Washington Post, CNN, and the New York Times. The email records for CNN reporter Barbara Starr were also obtained.

Various media have described these actions as “secretly seizing” or “covertly seizing” the records.

The records, of course, were not “seized.” They are still in the possession of the service providers. The Department of Justice obtained copies of the records, presumably in digital format. Under long-established legal precedent, DOJ can subpoena what is now routinely referred to as the “metadata” of such records, which indicates the subscriber information of the parties the communications were with, and when the interactions occurred.

And this sort of leak seems to have happened in the past, causing pandemics that took many lives. That’s what John Sexton writes at Hot Air:

China’s government caused famine by killing off many birds

    Mao Zedong

At least 40 million people died in a famine caused by China’s communist government in 1958-60, a famine ironically known as the “Great Leap Forward.” That death toll was increased by an order from communist dictator Mao Zedong telling the people of China to kill off the country’s sparrows. That led to swarms of insects devouring crops in parts of the country.

“The Great Sparrow Campaign was the start of the greatest mass starvation in history,” writes John Platt:

  13. SUMMIT NEWS – Scientist At Center Of Lab Leak Controversy Put In Charge Of The Lancet’s Task Force To Investigate Virus Origin

ANYBODY but this guy would be more suitable

Revered scientific journal The Lancet has created a ‘task force’ to investigate the origins of the coronavirus that caused a global pandemic, yet it has decided to employ as its leader the very guy who funded the dangerous gain of function research at the Wuhan lab and subsequently allegedly ‘bullied’ other scientists into avoiding looking into the lab as a potential source of the outbreak.

In the wake of renewed scrutiny of the lab leak hypothesis, the Lancet’s task force will reportedly “focus on analyzing data on all of the theories put forward on the origins of COVID, on the reasons why SARS-CoV-2 was able to break out of Wuhan and spread globally, and on the most plausible strategies to prevent future pandemics.”

It also states that “The Task Force will review thoroughly and objectively all publicly available evidence, particularly the peer-reviewed literature, and conduct interviews with key leaders in science, medicine, policy and civil society.”

    ‘Objectively’. Right.

Dr Peter Daszak, who is heading up this task force, is perhaps the least suitable scientist on the planet to objectively analyse the data, given his track record.

Daszak, as President of the EcoHealth Alliance, shovelled at least $600,000 to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the past few years to play around with coronaviruses inside the lab through the now infamous ‘gain of function’ research.

Daszak, who also works for the World Health Organisation, is on record admitting that he was involved with manipulating coronaviruses. Here is a video of him talking in DECEMBER 2019 about how ‘good’ the viruses are for altering in a lab:

Daszak notes that “coronaviruses are pretty good… you can manipulate them in the lab pretty easily… the spiked proteins drive a lot about what happens. You can get the sequence you can build the protein, we work with Ralph Baric at UNC to do this, insert into the backbone of another virus and do some work in a lab.”

No wonder then that Daszak as lead investigator for the WHO investigation determined within 3 hours of visiting the Wuhan lab in February 2021 that there was ‘nothing to see here’?

Recently released emails now document that Daszak thanked Dr Fauci for dismissing the lab leak theory before any scientific research had been done on the possibility.

Daszak was later employed as an ‘expert fact checker’ by Facebook when it was monitoring and removing ‘misinformation’ about the origins of COVID on its platform, much of which was credible scientific research. Facebook has since reversed the policy of banning any posts containing information suggesting COVID-19 was “man-made”.

Daszak’s Twitter profile is basically one long ‘it came from bats not a lab’ thread, much to the annoyance of some other scientists:

Why does this guy keep getting put in charge of investigations, task forces and ‘fact checking’, when it’s abundantly clear that he has the biggest motive to dismiss the lab leak notion?

As microbiologist Professor Richard Ebright has noted, “Daszak was the contractor who funded the laboratory at the Wuhan Institute of Virology that potentially was the source of the virus with subcontracts from $200million [£142million] from the US Department of State and $7million [£5million] from the US National Institutes of Health and he was a collaborator and co-author on research projects at the laboratory.”

Daszak has already lied about the type of research that was being conducted at the Wuhan lab, claiming, after the outbreak happened, that he didn’t know if it was gain of function or not. His own previous statements, and the Fauci emails prove he knew full well what was going on in the lab.

In addition, as reported by The Daily Mail and other outlets, Daszak “orchestrated a ‘bullying’ campaign and coerced top scientists into signing off on a letter to The Lancet aimed at removing blame for Covid-19 from the Wuhan lab he was funding with US money.”

Daszak used his influence to get the journal to publish the letter, which stated that to even suggest the lab leak theory had any credibility was equal to spreading “fear, rumours, and prejudice.”

It effetely shut down discussion among the scientific ‘consensus’ of the lab leak potential for a whole year until intelligence findings brought the matter back to the attention of the mainstream media.

WHO scientific advisor Jamie Metzl described Daszak’s letter as “scientific propaganda and a form of thuggery and intimidation.”

“By labelling anyone with different views a conspiracy theorist, the Lancet letter was the worst form of bullying in full contravention of the scientific method,” Metzl added.

The letter further stated that “We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that Covid-19 does not have a natural origin,” and even had the audacity to state that “We declare no competing interests.”

Indeed, Daszak had made sure that the letter would be devoid of any link to EcoHealth, and even considered leaving his own name off it, emails released via the Freedom of Information Act have revealed.

To make matters worse, the other members of The Lancet’s task force are practically all minions of Daszak, some of whom helped him draft the letter that unequivocally stated the lab leak theory was dangerous, and others who either worked with him on ‘fact checking’ for Facebook, or were cited as sources during that activity.

Taking all this into account, it is obvious what the outcome of The Lancet’s inquiry will be, and it should not and cannot be used as credible evidence against the lab leak theory.

Dr. Anthony Fauci is reaping the whirlwind of 15 months of public deceit and obfuscation that recently came to light in the wake of publicly released emails stemming from the heart of the pandemic. Despite the media’s hush-jobs, puff pieces, and ignoring the brewing scandal altogether — there were zero questions about it at Wednesday’s White House presser — the truth is slowly coming out. As it always does, eventually.

The heightened public scrutiny of Dr. Fauci, who became the face of the U.S. COVID-19 response and the nation’s highest-paid bureaucrat, is starting to cause a slow-walk of exposure. Some say that Fauci’s retirement may be imminent. The National Institutes of Health director may want to ride off into the sunset, collect his millions from book deals and investments, and revel in the afterglow of public glory.

The proposed training, provided by a consulting firm called The Gemini Group, was to be completed via zoom, and was intended to be available for staff and community members. It has been confirmed this week that the training was abruptly canceled late on the evening of May 25th as the result of parent backlash.

COVID-19 Has Forever Destroyed Americans’ Trust in Ruling Class ‘Experts’

FILE – In this April 7, 2020, file photo, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, speaks about the coronavirus in Washington. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon, File)

As even many casual observers of America’s fractious politics are aware, the overwhelming majority of lawmaking at the federal level no longer takes place in Congress as the Constitution’s framers intended. Instead, the vast majority of the “rulemaking” governing Americans’ day-to-day lives now takes place behind closed doors, deep in the bowels of the administrative state’s sprawling bureaucracy. The brainchild of progressive President Woodrow Wilson, arguments on behalf of the modern administrative state are ultimately rooted in, among other factors, a disdain for the messy give-and-take of republican politics and an epistemological preference for rule by enlightened clerisy.

Put more simply, the most straightforward version of the argument offered by partisans of the administrative state amounts to, “Trust the experts.” And over the century-plus since Wilson’s presidency, the “trust the experts” leitmotif has moved well beyond the realm of prevailing dogma for mandarins in such agencies as the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency. Rather, for large swaths of the citizenry and the elected official class, “trust the experts” now reigns supreme for everything from the military (“Trust the generals!”) to public health (“Trust the epidemiologists!”).

    And therein lies the rub.

The trials and tribulations of COVID-19 in America have dealt an irreparable blow to the credibility of America’s ruling class and the ruling class’s implicit appeal to its authority as a coterie of highly trained and capable experts. No single person exemplifies this more than Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has attained celebrity status during the pandemic as the nation’s leading immunology and forward-facing spokesman for our public policy response. As Steve Deace and Todd Erzen detail in their new book, “Faucian Bargain: The Most Powerful and Dangerous Bureaucrat in American History,” Fauci has repeatedly contradicted himself throughout the pandemic, waffling on what the “science” demands at any given moment while still always seeming to err on the side of draconian overreaction.

Over this pandemic and through a many-decade career, she’s made significant contributions, and she leaves behind a strong, strong force of leadership and courage in all that she’s done.”

That was Centers for Disease Control director Dr. Rachel Walensky in a May 7 White House briefing. David Lim of Politico wanted to know why Dr. Nancy Messonnier, longtime director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), had been reassigned in April, “and why is she now leaving the CDC?” Lim got no answer, and Walensky quickly moved on. That invites a review of what this “true hero” managed to accomplish “over this pandemic.”

In a CDC telebriefing on January 17, 2020, Dr. Messonnier mentioned “the outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan City, China, which has been identified as being caused by a novel coronavirus.” It was “a serious situation,” and she cautioned about travel to and from Wuhan. In a January 24 briefing, Dr. Messonnier said “we expect to find more cases of novel coronavirus in the United States associated with the ongoing and expanding outbreak in Wuhan, China.”

You don’t have to be a white supremacist to love Hitler.

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

“The world today needs a Hitler,” CNN correspondent Adeel Raja tweeted. Tala Halawa, the BBC’s “Palestinian” specialist, had previously tweeted a rant that included #HitlerWasRight.

Researchers have found that the #HitlerWasRight hashtag was intertwined not just with the usual white supremacists, but with more “progressive” hashtags like #FreePalestine.

Raja, a Pakistani Muslim, and Halawa, who hails from Israel’s West Bank, don’t fit the image of what people think Hitler’s fanbase looks like, but they’re more typical than you might think.

It is absolutely essential that the Biden administration disabuse Chinese leaders of the notion that they can spread the next pathogen, or whatever else they are planning, without a cost. In China’s laboratories, researchers are now cooking up far more deadly pathogens than SARS-CoV-2, including those that would leave the Chinese immune but sicken or kill everyone else. 25. 3 Virginia Sheriffs Switch From Democrat to Republican Over Anti-Police Rhetoric

A sheriff in Virginia has switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican due to rhetoric expressed by certain Democratic politicians.

Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler, who was elected as a Democrat in 2015, said in a statement that he’s switching parties because, according to him, police officers have faced attacks from Democrat politicians in Virginia and nationwide.

“I am changing to the Republican Party because of the relentless attack on law enforcement by Democrats in Richmond and Washington,” Shuler said in his statement last week. “My deputies work hard to serve and protect the citizens of Smyth County. As sheriff, it has been difficult to watch my deputies try to move forward during this unprecedented assault on our profession. We remain an honorable profession, and should not be judged by the bad acts of a few. I have always been a conservative throughout my law enforcement career of 38 years.”

  26. Ex-CDC director Redfield says he received death threats after mentioning lab-leak theory
    Edmund DeMarche
    3 minutes

Robert Redfield, the former head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told Vanity Fair he received death threats after an appearance on CNN in March where he said he believed COVID-19 may have escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China.

He told the magazine that “death threats flooded his inbox” from “prominent scientists,” some of whom were former friends.

“I was threatened and ostracized because I proposed another hypothesis,” he said. “I expected it from politicians. I didn’t expect it from science.”

Redfield made the comments months before it was considered acceptable to publically question the lab-leak theory. He told Dr. Sanjay Gupta in the interview that he still thinks “the most likely ideology of this pathogen in Wuhan was from a laboratory, escaped. Other people don’t believe that. That’s fine. Science will eventually figure it out. It’s not unusual for respiratory pathogens that are being worked on in a laboratory to infect the laboratory worker.”

Bob Nevens hoped to retire at Houston Methodist, where the 47-year-old had served for a decade as director of corporate risk. Instead, Nevens was fired on April 29 after he refused to have a COVID-19 vaccine injected into his arm.
Nevens’ hospital in the Houston area was among the first in the nation to require the vaccine and remains one of a handful doing so. Houston Methodist set an early deadline for its 1,255 executives and managers and Nevens was one of only two managers who failed to step up. Other workers have until June 7 to comply.
Nevens has a list of concerns: the vaccines were made quickly, the FDA authorized them for emergency use, and the long-term side effects may not be known.
“I don’t want to take an experimental vaccine,” Nevens said. “We don’t know what it’s going to do to somebody 10 years from now.”

A 14-year-old girl was shot by Florida deputies Tuesday night and sustained life-threatening injuries after she and another juvenile broke into a home filled with guns and opened fire on authorities, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.

The incident unfolded around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday when a local juvenile home called to report a 12-year-old boy, a diabetic who depends on insulin, had run away with a 14-year-old girl, the Volusia County Sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The 14-year-old had a criminal history, which included allegedly stealing puppies and once burning down a home, Chitwood said.

Police posted bodycam footage of the incident on its official YouTube page.

A history that also shows Spain how to survive – should it actually care to.

Raymond Ibrahim is a Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

Spain is reliving its ancient history with Islam.

Ongoing reports indicate that Muslims migrants from North Africa are illegally entering and flooding Spanish territory. In just 2020, 23,000 migrants invaded Spain’s Canary Islands, representing a 234 percent increase. Most recently, in just one day, some 6,000 North Africans invaded Ceuta “by sea, either swimming or with inflatables, all in a bid to eventually get to mainland Europe.”

Once arriving on Spanish territory, such migrants invariably engage in unsavory and downright criminal behavior, such as gang-rape, and create enclaves, or ribats, where police fear to tread.

  32. ‘I Refuse to Shut Up’: Moroccan Man Burns Quran to Get Asylum in Sweden – Video

The man had earlier sought asylum citing persecution over his religious doubts, but had his application rejected and was advised to “keep a low profile” and “restrain himself in his criticism of Islam” in order to avoid provoking others.

After having his asylum application in Sweden rejected, a Moroccan man has released a film where he burns a copy of the Quran, Islam’s holy book, in protest.

The man came to Sweden from Morocco two years ago on a tourist visa and sought asylum, citing persecution in his home country due to his “religious doubts”.

The Swedish Migration Agency, however, rejected his asylum application. The decision was appealed, but the Migration Court of Appeal backed up the authority’s line, ruling that it was “reasonable” to demand his return to Morocco as well as expect that he “keeps a low profile and restrains himself in his criticism of Islam and the monarchy in order to avoid provoking actions against him by individuals and authorities”.

In response, the man recorded a video of himself burning a copy of the Quran in a barbecue area and uploaded it on YouTube under the handle Skeptic Mohamed.

The man, who describes himself as an ex-Muslim, an atheist, a secularist, a metalhead, and a sceptic, argued that this act of “desecration” was about “defending his right to asylum”.

“This can dramatically increase my security concerns even here in Sweden. I have a duty to protect my dignity, safety, and freedom, which is absolutely impossible in a Muslim-majority country like Morocco at this point”, he said.

“This also [is] in defiance to the Swedish Migration Authorities that are explicitly discriminating against me because I am an ex-Muslim atheist”, he continued.

“I strongly refuse to shut up and hide like these Swedish asylum authorities required me to do and consider a ‘reasonable’ requirement while Islamofascists and Islamic terrorists that want us dead are allowed to stay in Sweden after they have destroyed dozens of Muslim-majority countries”, he concluded.

Skeptic Mohamed’s act has drawn media attention. Among others, the newspaper Aftonbladet emphasised that the very Migration Court of Appeal previously ruled that “it is not possible to force a genuinely convinced person to hide, change, or distance themselves from their view of life”.

Furthermore, journalist Thord Eriksson ventured that Mohamed must have had “the misfortune to encounter an bureaucratic wall of asylum deniers” and that his clips are “disturbing Sweden’s self-image as a defender of human rights”.

In the comments to the video, reactions were rather polarised, ranging from admiration, respect, and support to criticism, condemnation, and glee.

So far, desecrating the Quran in Scandinavia has been a staple of right-wing anti-Islam organisations, such as Denmark’s Hard Line party led by Rasmus Paludan or Stop Islamisation of Norway (SIAN), both of which see Quran-burning as a way of executing freedom of speech.

  33. DAILY MAIL – The Pentagon gave $39 MILLION to Dr. Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance – the charity that funded coronavirus research at the Wuhan lab accused of being the source of the outbreak, federal data reveals

Federal data seen by DailyMail.com reveals The Pentagon gave $39 million to EcoHealth Alliance, which funded a lab in Wuhan, China, between 2013 and 2020

The Wuhan Institute of Virology is accused of being the source of Covid-19

The majority of the DoD funding came from the DTRA, a military branch with a mission to ‘counter and deter weapons of mass destruction and improvised threat networks’

Federal grant data assembled by independent researchers shows that the charity has received more than $123 million from the government in total

Grants from the Pentagon included $6,491,025 from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) from 2017 to 2020

EHA also received $64.7 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID)

It received $13 million from Health and Human Services, which includes the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control

It is not known how much of the money actually went to the Wuhan lab

EHA has also funded deeply controversial ‘gain of function’ experiments, where dangerous viruses are made more infectious to study their effect on human cells

    “your white privilege”

If the driver had not been forced onto a Critical Race Theory Diversity Course, would she have ever picked up such a Marxist talking point?

“She has been charged with two counts of “elder abuse” and battery…”

Charged with an age-related Hate Crime made up by the Police when it was clearly against “your white privilege”. If she had said, “your Black Privilege,” the police and the Media would have had a three-day party and half the inner city burned down.

How about: it was really a cowardly assault. And then go back to real policing instead of Stasi Policing.
