Reader’s Links for May 20, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Deception on such a level won’t go on forever:

With no liabilities for deaths and injuries from untested serums, it is profitable to perpetuate the pandemic and push mass injections. In fact, it can be argued that never before has big pharma enjoyed such a waiver from massive government fines, while enjoying such profitable sales of experimental medicines. That, it appears, is the nexus of big politics and big pharma, mutually beneficial.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aljazeera.com/amp/opinions/2020/10/18/big-pharma-is-not-going-to-help-the-world-defeat-covid-19

If India is in play what about Africa? Well, PC, it is interesting because maybe the world was where we are today, but on a smaller scale. Africa was a learning ground for big pharma during the Aids epidemic, apparently. Expensive drugs didn’t solve the problem in the end.

    https://www.salon.com/2013/09/05/pick_of_the_week_big_pharmas_african_genocide/

To believe that HCQ, Ivermectin or any other effective therapy stand a chance in the face of this once-in-a-company, and once-in-a political-career global opportunity, I think would be extremely naive. And relatively poor jurisdictions such as India and Africa are only more susceptible to these machinations because the coercion dollar stretches so much further.

In the end you may be proven correct–that the pandemic and the experimental treatments are legit. For now I choose to see the big pharma dubious track record on all of this. Company Bottom Line First is a morality all its own.

There appears to be “systemic racism” lurking just below the surface of the “woke” National Football League. This is ironic for a league has pledged $250 million to “combat systemic racism and support the battle against the ongoing and historic injustices faced by African Americans.”

According to Insurance Journal, the NFL is using a scoring system to assess cognitive impairment when paying out brain injury settlements that assumes that black men start with lower cognitive skills.

Thousands of retired Black professional football players, their families and supporters are demanding an end to the controversial use of “race-norming” to determine which players are eligible for payouts in the NFL’s $1 billion settlement of brain injury claims, a system experts say is discriminatory.

Trending: Misuse of ‘unmasking’ term in reports about DOJ and parody accounts pestering Devin Nunes

Former Washington running back Ken Jenkins, 60, and his wife Amy Lewis on Friday delivered 50,000 petitions demanding equal treatment for Black players to Senior U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody in Philadelphia, who is overseeing the massive settlement. Former players who suffer dementia or other diagnoses can be eligible for a payout.

Under the settlement, however, the NFL has insisted on using a scoring algorithm on the dementia testing that assumes Black men start with lower cognitive skills. They must therefore score much lower than whites to show enough mental decline to win an award. The practice, which went unnoticed until 2018, has made it harder for Black former players to get awards.

Samir el Y. sentenced to 9 years in prison for murder of Bas van Wijk
    https://nltimes.nl/2021/05/18/samir-el-y-sentenced-9-years-prison-murder-bas-van-wijk
21-year old Samir el Y. was convicted in the murder of 24-year old Bas van Wijk at the Nieuwe Meer lakefront in Amsterdam last August. He was sentenced to nine year in prison, and compulsory mental health treatment for an undetermined time at a TBS facility for the slaying.
The defendant previously confessed to shooting Van Wijk during the alleged attempted theft of a Rolex watch, which later turned out to be fake. El Y. stated in court that he fired his weapon three times as a result of a confrontation over the watch. The first shot was fired into the water as a warning while families were swimming in the area. As Van Wijk tried to stop the incident from escalating further, El Y. fired twice at the victim, causing the fatal injury.
During the trial, Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded 18 years in prison for El Y. They also want him to undergo mandatory psychiatric institutionalization. “The motive for taking Bas’s life lay solely in getting and keeping the watch. He wanted the watch. Period,” the prosecutor said.
The court determined that aggravated manslaughter was not proven, with the court saying it was not clear that the shots were fired to facilitate the theft. During defense arguments, El Y. claimed he was not trying to steal the watch, though witness testimony suggested otherwise.
Samir el Y. told the court that the altercation occurred on August 8 last year between his own group of friends and the victim’s group of friends. A brawl started over the watch that belonged to one of Van Wijk’s close friends. El Y.’s hostile actions and incessant questions about the watch led them to assume he was planning to steal it.
“I had absolutely no intention of taking away the watch. It was an argument that got out of hand. I wanted to impress them instead of running away. I can’t explain it well”, the defendant previously stated.
“It all went very quickly. I was in shock. Then, I ran and realized it wasn’t right”, El Y. added.
The experts also found the 21-year-old El Y. to be suffering from a severe personality disorder and demanded the TBS treatment. Without it, the risk of recurrence would be too great, they said.
Both prosecutors and the defense attorney can file an appeal in the case should they disagree with the conviction or sentence imposed by the court.

Struggling to cope: Spanish authorities work out what to do with unaccompanied minors in Ceuta

The Spanish government is hoping some of its mainland regions will agree to take on some of the more than 1,500 unaccompanied minors who arrived in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, on the African continent, over the last few days.

Reception facilities in Ceuta are full to bursting after around 8,000 migrants crossed from Morocco to Ceuta, and to a lesser extent Melilla, in the last few days. About 1,500 of migrants who crossed are children and teenagers. Some, according to the news agency Reuters, as young as seven or nine, not all of them with family.

Spain’s Social Rights Minister Ione Belarre told the Spanish broadcaster TVE that the government was “working to address the issue of children who have come alone.” Minister Belarre said that “many of them did not know the consequences of crossing the border. And many of them want to go back. So we are working to make that possible.”

Now the Spanish authorities are hoping that some regions in mainland Spain will come forward to help relocate some of the unaccompanied minors to relieve pressure on the authorities in Ceuta.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday asked healthcare providers to stop using certain syringes and needles manufactured by Chinese medical device maker Guangdong Haiou Medical Apparatus Co (HAIOU).

At least one pharmacist that Reuters spoke to said the syringes had been shipped for use with the Pfizer Inc /BioNTech SE COVID-19 vaccine.

An FDA spokesperson said the devices stopped being shipped in COVID-19 vaccination kits as of March 22. The agency does not believe that stopping use of these syringes will cause vaccination delays.

The FDA said it has received information about quality issues, including certain HAIOU needles detaching from the syringe and getting stuck to the patient’s arm after injection and a few incidents involving accidental needlestick injuries to healthcare providers.

The agency has recommended against use of two of HAIOU’s syringe-needle combinations – 1mL syringe with 25Gx 1-inch needle and the 1mL syringe with 23G x 1-inch needle – until further notice.

Erin Fox, senior director of drug information at University of Utah Health, said it had previously received the syringes with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine as part of ancillary supply kits shipped by McKesson Corp (MCK.N). She said they were using those syringes in March, but have not had them for a while and are not currently using them.

The FDA issued an import alert on April 30, to prevent these syringe and needle configurations from entering the United States.

  18. Ocasio-Cortez leading effort to block arms sale to Israel – Patriot Daily Wire
    4-5 minutes

A group of progressive House Democrats led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) introduced a resolution Wednesday aimed at blocking a $735 million arms sale to Israel.

The resolution is largely symbolic as Democratic leaders who support the sale are unlikely to give the legislation a vote and the window for lawmakers to force a vote to block the sale closes in a couple of days. But the effort underscores the growing divide among Democrats on Israel as a bloody crisis in Gaza continues.

“For decades, the U.S. has sold billions of dollars in weaponry to Israel without ever requiring them to respect basic Palestinian rights. In so doing, we have directly contributed to the death, displacement and disenfranchisement of millions,” Ocasio-Cortez in a statement announcing the resolution of disapproval. “At a time when so many, including President Biden, support a ceasefire, we should not be sending ‘direct attack’ weaponry to Prime Minister Netanyahu to prolong this violence.”

In addition to Ocasio-Cortez, the effort is being led by Reps. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). Other co-sponsors include Democratic Reps. Cori Bush (Mo.), Betty McCollum (Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.) and André Carson (Ind.).

    • Hamas anti-tank missile hits IDF bus moments after 10 soldiers alight

One lightly wounded in attack, which comes amid renewed rocket fire on Israeli Gaza border communities; IDF targets launch site, car carrying missile unit in response

Amid ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hamas, operatives from the terror group fired an anti-tank missile at an Israel Defense Forces bus north of the Gaza Strip Thursday morning moments after it had been filled with troops.

The bus, which was parked outside the Zikim army base on the Gaza border south of Ashkelon, took a direct hit, with the missile smashing through its bulletproof protection and destroying its rear section.

Some 10 soldiers from the Paratrooper’s Brigade had been aboard the bus just minutes before the attack, having returned from an operative mission in the area. They were dropped off inside the base before the bus exited its front gate and stopped just outside.

The IDF confirmed the attack, saying the bus was empty when it was hit. A soldier standing nearby was lightly injured by shrapnel and taken to nearby Barzilai Medical Center for treatment, the hospital said.

Meir Vaknin, the driver of the bus, was in the driver’s seat when the missile struck, but came out unscathed.

“It was another trip for me, I dropped the soldiers off at the base and waited to take another batch of soldiers out of there. Then, suddenly, there was no siren, and I was struck,” Vaknin told Channel 12 news.
“The soldiers rushed to my seat because they thought I was injured, but everything was fine. I got out of it on my own. Everything was fine,” he said.

Hamas released footage of the attack, filmed from multiple angles, in which the bus can be seen clearly from across the border.

In response to the attack, the IDF carried out a strike on a car in the northern Gaza Strip, saying its passengers were armed members of Hamas’s anti-tank missile unit.

Two people were killed in the strike, according to Palestinian media reports.
The army also said it destroyed the Hamas launchpad in Beit Lahiya where the anti-tank missile was fired from.

It was the second anti-tank guided missile attack directed at IDF soldiers on the border in this campaign. In the first such strike last Tuesday, IDF soldier Staff Sgt. Omer Tabib was killed when a missile struck his jeep and two other servicemen were injured, one seriously and one moderately.

The latest attack came as a lull of several hours was broken Thursday morning with multiple waves of rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border.

Over the next few hours, more waves of mortar fire targeted additional communities around the Strip and rockets were fired toward the city of Ashkelon, one of the hardest hit areas in Israel in the current round of fighting, as well as at Beersheba.

No injuries were reported from the projectiles, but at least three people were lightly injured while running to bomb shelters, medics said.

  21. reuters – Belgian army joins hunt for far-right soldier in forest

The Belgian army helped comb a forest on Thursday in search of a heavily armed soldier with far-right views who disappeared three days ago, authorities and media said.

The federal prosecutor said that 46-year-old Jurgen Conings went missing after he had made threats against Belgian institutions and celebrities, but did not give details.

The case has gripped Belgians and dominated headlines since weapons including anti-tank rocket launchers and ammunition taken from a military base were found in Conings’ abandoned car near Dilsen in west Belgium.

Local media said the army deployed armoured vehicles and demining equipment to assist police already hunting him in the 12,000-hectare Hoge Kempen park of woodland, lakes and dunes.

A highway through the area was closed.

The Belgian government said earlier this week that Conings was on a list of potential terrorists due to far-right tendencies.

“The question is how someone active in the defence service – who is on a security list as a person with extremist ideas and who has already made threats – gained access to weapons and was able to take them away,” Prime Minister Alexander De Croo told Belga news agency.

Local media linked Conings to Marc van Ranst, a COVID-19 expert supportive of vaccines and social restrictions who has advised the Belgian government during the coronavirus pandemic.

Van Ranst told Belga that he had lodged a complaint after death threats were made against him on the website of the Viruswaanzin (Virus Insanity) organisation, a group that has held protests against COVID-19 curbs. The virologist said he and his family had been moved to a safe location.

BBC – Belgian national park shut in hunt for far-right soldier

Belgian authorities have closed a national park near the Dutch border as the search for a heavily armed soldier with far-right views continues.

Dutch and German police are supporting the hundreds of Belgian officers and soldiers involved in the manhunt.

The suspect, a military shooting instructor named as Jurgen Conings, went missing on Monday after taking weapons from a barracks.

He is said to have made threats in the past against a top Belgian virologist.

Marc Van Ranst, who led Belgium’s public health response to coronavirus, has been taken to a safe place with his family.

The Belgian federal public prosecutor’s office has said it believes the suspect is still alive.

On Thursday, Defence Minister Ludivine Dedonder said the suspect had been identified by Belgian military intelligence for suspected ties to the far right as early as 2019. Last summer, the ministry filed a complaint against him for racist comments he posted online.

“As soon as these behaviours appeared, this soldier should no longer have had access to these weapons and should have been subject to stricter controls,” the minister said.

She has also pledged stricter measures against serving of former members of the military who post hate speech or racist views online, from limiting their access to weapons, to suspension or dismissal from the army.

What do we know about the search?

In addition to support from abroad, 250 Belgian police officers and 150 soldiers are involved in the search, according to prosecutor Wenke Roggen.

The operation is currently centred on the Hoge Kempen national park, a 12,000-hectare area (46 sq miles) of forest and heathland, not far from the Dutch border.

[…]Police have appealed to the public not to approach the man but to get in touch if he is spotted. Authorities say he represents the highest level of threat on their scale of four and may have plans to attack either individuals or institutions.

A car said to belong to the soldier containing four anti-tank rocket-launchers and ammunition was found on Tuesday. But police believe the suspect is still armed with other guns, including a sub-machinegun, and carrying a bulletproof vest.

What do we know about the suspect?
Reports described the soldier as a “potentially highly violent extremist”. He is said to have left letters indicating he is prepared for a deadly battle with police and “could no longer live in a society where politicians and virologists have taken everything away from us”.

The suspect has in the past threatened Mr Van Ranst, considered Belgium’s best-known virologist.

Joe Biden Greenlights New Gas Pipeline – It’s Not For The United States, It’s For Biden’s Buddy Russia
    What’s Happening:

It’s becoming perfectly clear that Biden’s motto isn’t “America first.” Instead, it seems to be “Anyone but America First.”

We all know how he ended a major pipeline project—just to appease radical environmentalists.

That move killed off thousands of jobs and increased the cost of gasoline and fuel. But does Biden care?

    Doesn’t look like it.

Now, we are getting word that Biden is actually supporting the creation of a pipeline. For the United States? No, but for a country that will use it to hurt our energy production.

All Biden had to do was not mess with Trump’s success.

Bruce Thornton is a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

The Biden administration took over the government with the wind at its back thanks to Donald Trump. With the COVID vaccines reining in the pandemic and things getting back to normal, all Biden had to do was not get in the way of success. But a lingering Trump Derangement Syndrome, and a leftwing, noisy base eager to complete Barack Obama’s “fundamental transformation” of the U.S., have led at home and abroad to actions and policies seemingly calculated to compromise our interests and security and erode our political freedom.

We can start with our southern border. Trump’s initiatives such as building a wall, stepping-up deportations, and striking a deal that kept asylum seekers in Mexico had slowed considerably the number of illegal crossings, leading to a reduction in violence from gangsters like MS-13 that flourished in so-called sanctuary cities; the end of the catch-and-release policy that dumped unvetted aliens into the country’s interior; and limiting the cruel deaths of children on the trek north.

  25. Dominoes! Fmr Democrat Demands Forensic Audit In Georgia! – The Beltway Report
    About Staff Writer
    3-4 minutes

Republican Vernon Jones was a Democrat until the year 4AD. (After Donald) , has decided to call a press conference to announce that he is planning to convince Georgia legislators to vote for a forensic audit of the entire state of Georgia. The title of the event is “Call For Forensic Audit”.

It is his hope that the entire state can undergo a forensic audit to determine if Joe Biden did actually win the state in 2020 but obviously he doesn’t believe that is so.

To my fellow Georgians – who share my concern for the integrity and security of our elections – I invite you to join me at Liberty Plaza in Atlanta for a press conference tomorrow at 11:00am.

Several counties in Oregon on May 18 voted to consider joining the state of Idaho, which is part of a long-shot movement to break away from the state that has long been dominated by politicians in Portland.

Voters in Malheur, Sherman, Grant, Baker, and Lake counties approved various measures that require county officials to take steps to look into moving the Idaho border west to incorporate the counties.

The grassroots group Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho is aiming to have the eastern counties—which are mostly rural—join Idaho because they believe they would be better off with Idaho’s more conservative political leadership.
