Reader’s Links for May 16, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. I am pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli: Kick out HAMAS (the acronym means destruction in Hebrew)!
OK. Language matters–best to avoid terms Leftists use.
Not to long ago, this was the prosperous norm and it really bothered some people somewhere or who some thing to destroy it….

  2. This is what Merkel has turned Germany into – ARRRRGHHHHHH – while she allows decent and peaceful Germans to be attacked by Water-Canons and naked Gestapo Brutality, when they demonstrate against a new “Emergency Law” that is a carbon copy of Hitler’s 1933 “Ermaechtigungsgesetz”, she allows “Palesteeeeenians” to call publicly for the anihilation of Israel and the Jewish people: ” …from the mountains to the sea…blablabla…”, to bombard her hapless police with stones, bigger than a fist, and with bottles.

At one stage the police loudspeaker politely asks the islamic Merkel-Guests, to please, pretty please desist and stop throwing big stones and bottles because “somebody innocent might get hurt”.

Pardon my erratic prose I’m typing this in full anger.
This reportage comes from a very courageous pair of citizen journalists (Anni and Martin), they recorded what they call yesterday’s “pro-palestinian protest”:
You probably all recognise the usual muslim call from the Allahuakbarists, and their screeching veiled females calling for “….from the river to the sea…”:

The Liz Cheney moment, and the moving on therefrom

The Liz Cheney saga is one I haven’t felt compelled to write about, in part because although it’s basically a shallow issue, the polarization over it wades immediately into deep waters.

I don’t really want to spend too much time on it here. As it begins to recede, however, it matters to register a couple of points.

One is that the reason Rep. Cheney had to be removed from leadership is that she couldn’t do anything except rant angrily about Donald Trump. I watched this sadly, because over the last 20 years I’ve found a lot of basis for agreement with her on numerous issues. It’s been melancholy watching people of similar profile succumb to Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Latest: The Liz Cheney moment, and the moving on therefrom

I know there will be plenty of replies from readers who simply write her off as a Swamp Rat, and we can fight that out later. The point I want to make, and what I’m going to stick to, is that there is neither percentage nor leadership in ranting against Trump

  6. 10 Things We Have Learned During the Covid Coup

One potential positive from the whole Covid-19 debacle is that we have learned an incredible amount about the society in which we live. This will be crucial if we manage to stave off a descent into a nightmare future of techno-fascist slavery.

We will have a new understanding of what our world has become and what we would like it to be in the decades and centuries to come. And “we” means we. While the majority have, apparently, learnt nothing at all from what has happened, they will eventually catch up.

There is no way that knowledge gained by a wide-awake 15% or 20% of the population will not end up being shared by almost everyone. Once the truth is out, it tends to stay out. As H.R. Haldeman so wisely put it, “you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube”.

Here are Ten Things We Have Learned During the Covid Coup.

1 – Our political system is hopelessly corrupt. Virtually all politicians are hopelessly corrupt. No political party can be trusted. They all can be, and have been, bought.

2 – Democracy is a sham. It has been a sham for a very long time. There will never be any real democracy when money and power amount to the same thing.

3 – The system will stop at nothing to hold on to its power and, if possible, increase its levels of control and exploitation. It has no scruples. No lie is too outrageous, no hypocrisy too nauseating, no human sacrifice too great.

4 – So-called radical movements are usually nothing of the sort. From whatever direction they claim to attack the system, they are just pretending to do so, and serve to channel discontent in directions which are harmless to the power clique and even useful to its agendas.

5- Any “dissident” voice you have ever heard of through corporate media is probably a fake. The system does not hand out free publicity to its actual enemies.

6 – Most people in our society are cowards. They will jettison all the fine values and principles which they have been loudly boasting about all their lives merely to avoid the slightest chance of public criticism, inconvenience or even minor financial loss.

7 – The mainstream media is nothing but a propaganda machine for the system and those journalists who work for it have sold their sorry souls, placing their (often minimal) writing skills entirely at the disposition of Power.

8- Police are not servants of the public but servants of a powerful and extremely wealthy minority which seeks to control and exploit the public for its own narrow and greedy interests.

9 – Scientists cannot be trusted. They will use the hypnotic power of their white coats and authoritative status for the benefit of whoever funds their work and lifestyle. He who pays the piper calls the tune.

10 – Progress is a misleading illusion. The “progress” of increasing automisation and industrialisation does not go hand in hand with a progress in the quality of human life, but in fact will “progressively” reduce it to the point of complete extinction.

    • Great post, Martin. All true.

May I add that, as a result, we lost friends and gained enemies as friends? The world upside down.

Biggest Nurses Union Rebukes CDC Unmasking of Vaccinated
    by Charles Kim – May 15, 2021

    Excerpt:

The largest nurse’s union in the country said Friday that it does not support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s decision to allow those completely vaccinated from COVID-19 to remove their masks and social distance in public.

“This newest CDC guidance is not based on science, does not protect public health, and threatens the lives of patients, nurses, and other frontline workers across the country,” National Nurses United (NNU) Executive Director Bonnie Castillo, RN, said in a statement from the union on Friday. “Now is not the time to relax protective measures, and we are outraged that the CDC has done just that while we are still in the midst of the deadliest pandemic in a century.”

  10. CBC – Quebec sees explosion of far-right activities over past decade, study finds

Peak reached in 2020, when far-right figures led movement against public health measures

Activities by far-right groups have gone from two a year to two a week in the last decade, with 2020 considered to be the busiest year, according to a study released Friday by a Quebec centre that studies radicalization.

The Centre d’expertise et de formation sur les intégrismes religieux, les idéologies politiques et la radicalisation is based in Longueuil, on Montreal’s South Shore.

The pandemic — and government measures to restrict its spread — have changed the focus of many groups from issues of identity and multiculturalism to an anti-authority and anti-democracy discourse, the report said.

The study used a broad definition of far-right, focusing on activities planned on the basis of “a hatred” of liberal democracy and traditional values.

“The spread of the right-wing extremist discourse in the population surprised me, the fact that it has become normalized,” Frédéric Nadeau said, one of the authors of the study.

“We were expecting that rise but not to that point.”

The authors looked at a swath of groups whose ideology fit their definition of far-right, honing in on protests, conferences, crimes and other activities held both privately and in public.

The report identified the far-right group Atalante Québec as the busiest of the decade but noted the emergence of the anti-public-health measures movement as being led by far-right figures.

“They kind of reoriented their discourse from that identity and culture focus to a more anti-authority, anti-democratic one,” Nadeau said.

“In one year, they held almost more events than most of the other groups that have been active since the beginning of the decade.”

According to the study, the movement against health measures held 72 events in 2020 alone.

Nadeau notes though, that most of the participants attending the anti-mask or anti-curfew protests are not necessarily believers in the far-right, and are likely unaware of the political affiliation of the organizers.

The study looked only into the number of activities and not the reasons behind the rise.

  14. Almost everything has doubled in price. I’m floored. This is not a coincidence.

I need a new patio table parasol. For the past ten years, the price has always been no more than $50 for a 9-ft round non-inclinable parasol of the ‘made in China’ type. This year, they’re all at some $100 for the same exact item.

This is the lockdown result where people now work from home. They can work from their patios and they need umbrellas or parasols, from morning till 4h00 pm. I checked other outdoor items, it’s the same story.

    Who benefits? Big Corp.

    I AM SO ANGRY.

Me: I’ll wait till end-of-June if need be but I will not succumb to their price-fixing. I’ll find other ways of protecting myself from the glaring sun. My patio table has a hole in mid-center. I’ll find a way!
