Reader’s Links for April 23, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • That’s funny PC. Last night I watched that video and was about to post it. Q & A – Optimistic & Promising @ 47:12… no allies…
This needs to be seen. Yes, a bigger carbon footprint:

      • Lol., EB. And I thought the video was so good, that someone must have posted it here. But posted anyway.

This idea of the pendulum swinging from Left to Right.

        But the pendulum was switched.

Communists have a tzar lording over ‘women’s interests.’ Canceling men.

muslims have Muhammad lording over men. Canceling women.

Far Left and Far Far Left.

Two godless places. All into the mind of Pride, or blindly into a room facing a Black Stone.

        The pendulum of hypnosis.

  1. Yesterday we went grocery shopping. It’s a new store for us near our new neighborhood. It is less expensive than most other stores, my daughter tells me, but be very careful in the meat section, she says, unless you like green flesh. When I told her the halal chicken was cheap because they beat the “cluck” out of it she just gave me that look. I love that look.

It is also the perfect Dystopia grocery store. Very culturally enriched. Here we are the white minority. Dear Leader would be proud to see this demography, though I doubt he will ever set foot in such a slum lest it bare him juicy political fruit.

I have come to appreciate pandemic food shopping. The whole absurdity and reality of The Revolution distills into the aisles. There’s nothing particularly specific or dramatic in this experience to reference The Revolution, except to say that extraordinary times imbue even mundane tasks with a certain lucidity. It’s like knowing you are dreaming while you are dreaming. They call this lucid dreaming, I believe. Maybe I’ve done this once but I’m not sure. I think I flew down the stairs or over a mountain. I don’t remember, exactly. It was fun, but I should have cured cancer or gone to Mars while I was at it. Duh.

I like to drive the cart. This gives me the lazy luxury of watching things while my lucid shopping partner makes hunting forays into the packaged jungle. People look so funny. Everyone looks kind of stupid except me. Look at that guy with the pill box hat. There are few things I hate more than a man wearing a pill box hat. Yes, my mother told me never to use the word “hate”, because it was so strong that it should be reserved for those moments when such white-hot emotion was justified. Well, mom, voilá. And having said this I sincerely hope I have tainted–nay ruined–for eternity the pill box hat–wearing experience for one and for all. Women look idiotic in them, too, except maybe Queen Elizabeth or Jackie O. But, then, some how the fashion sense of these women prevents them from looking like activists.

In this store you bag your own groceries. We’d forgotten to bring our bags from home, again. In this case the store provides a pile of cardboard produce boxes just past the checkout.

The cashier rang up our stuff while my daughter and I hurried to the box pile and back. We didn’t want to hold anyone up. As I packed things I noticed how hard the checkout lady was throwing down our stuff after scanning it. I was going to look up at her because I thought she was about to bust my rigatoni. Instead I just concentrated on the task. I wondered if, what with all the effort by pill box hat wearers going into inciting race riots and thereby furthering the broader Revolution, is this our minority future?

“I really like your nails,” said my daughter to the lady as we wheeled our cart away. They were painted sky blue and glued on. I thought them a tasteful contrast to her brown skin.

“Oh thank you!” said the lady smiling as her disposition instantly transformed.

My final counter-revolutionary act in this experience was in removing my mask not outside the store, but a few feet before the exit! BEFORE THE EXIT!  I know, I know. What a man, you’re thinking. What courage. A true leader. But please, please. If you cut me I shall bleed…

The only climate emergency I know of is the one inside these stupid Revolutionary masks. They make you feel hot and uncomfortable, and the CO2-loaded microclimate inside of them is downright disgusting. I never thought a parking lot could be so refreshing.

    • I bag my groceries outside when I reach my car.

You should see me check out the best pineapple. No choice, I have to remove the mask to smell the pineapples. This process for the best pineapple can take up to twenty minutes. Nobody looks at me and the store clerks know and accept it.

My nostrils are always slightly above the mask and I lift the bottom when I exhale.

  2. Turkey Seeks Arrest Of Missing Crypto Boss Over Huge Fraud
    https://www.ibtimes.com/turkey-seeks-arrest-missing-crypto-boss-over-huge-fraud-3186656
Turkish authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for the founder of a cryptocurrency exchange who fled with a reported $2 billion in investors’ assets, state media reported Friday.

Police also detained 62 people in raids on Friday over their alleged links to Thodex, the company headed by the fugitive businessman Faruk Fatih Ozer.

Prosecutors are investigating Ozer on charges of “aggravated fraud and founding a criminal organisation”, the private DHA news agency reported.

Turkish security officials on Thursday released a photo of him going through passport control at Istanbul airport on his way to an undisclosed location.

Security sources later confirmed that Ozer — said to be 27 or 28 years old — was in Albania.

The justice ministry has started legal procedures to seek the arrest and extradition of Ozer from the Albanian capital Tirana, the official Anadolu news agency reported.

The Thodex exchange suspended trading after posting a mysterious message on Wednesday saying it needed five days to deal with an unspecified outside investment.
Media reports said the exchange shut down while holding at least $2 billion from 391,000 investors.

The 62 suspects were apprehended in simultaneous raids carried out in eight cities including Turkey’s biggest city Istanbul, Anadolu reported.

Police raided the company’s headquarters on the Asian side of Istanbul and seized computers and digital materials, press reports said.

There was no immediate information about those being held.
Police have also issued arrest warrants for 16 other people, Anadolu said, without elaborating.

A lawyer for the investors, Oguz Evren Kilic, said Friday that the investigation into Thodex “is deepening”.

“Hundreds of thousands of users cannot get access to their digital wallets. The situation will get more serious unless a concrete step is taken” by Thodex, he told AFP by phone.

Kilic said his clients have already lodged complaints at the prosecutor’s office in Istanbul and other cities.

In a message posted on the company’s official Twitter account on Thursday, Ozer slammed the “baseless allegations” against him.

He said he was abroad for meetings with foreign investors and would return home “in a few days and cooperate with judicial authorities so that the truth can come out”.

Growing numbers of Turks are turning to cryptocurrencies in a bid to shield their savings in the face of a sharp decline in the value of the Turkish lira and high inflation.

The Turkish crypto market remains unregulated despite growing scepticism from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government about its safety.

Turkey’s central bank said last week it will ban the use of cryptocurrencies in payments for goods and services starting from April 30.
It warned that cryptocurrencies “entail significant risks” because the market is volatile and lacks oversight.

April 14, 2021, the pro-Al-Qaeda Jays Al-Malahim Al-Electronic issued a second issue of the Wolves of Manhattan, which included several articles inciting its supporters who live in Western countries to exploit civil unrest to carry out lone wolf attacks.

The opening article, titled “The Lone Wolf and Protests” tells supporters to carry out terrorist attacks under the cover of the protests in Western countries – USA, France, Italy, Germany and Britain. it names groups like the Yellow Vests. Suggests to choose night protests since it is easier to run and hide.

Steer protesters to car ramming, if possible hire militiamen or mercenary to do the car ramming, this way you will kill large numbers of Crusaders. Enrage he protesters to fight the police, destroy and vandalize private property as well as public property – – cars, shops, stands…..

You can bring knives and Molotov cocktail without raising suspicions. Encourage fights with police and use Molotov cocktails to kill the police, you will become a hero in the eyes of the protesters and you can encourage them to kill the police.

Exploit the COVID pandemic -wear a mask to hide your identity. There will be a reward of $60,000 Bitcoin to the first person to kill a police officer. you must send a photo to Jaysh Al-Malahim via its email address, it is needed to verify the killing and your address will not be published.

    • My oldest brother is eight years older than me. Forty years ago he had a map of the world on his den wall, he stuck coloured markers on places that he considered not safe to travel. He loved to travel. Over the years he kept identifying places that were no longer safe as far as he was concerned. He predicted the world would be a hellish place to live in the not to distant future. At a protest march 30 years ago, regarding all things Muslim, creeping Shari’ah law in Canada, the police took him home for his own safety. He said he hoped he lived long enough to say to his Liberal friends “I told you so”. He is still alive and well and will not be vaccinated.

      • His liberal friends will always make up a reason as to why when they are wrong, they are still right. People defend their purchases. When I started this site, some people over the years came around to seeing what we see, and agreed that these problems exist. Some even moved to a country where there was less of a problem. But if they haven’t seen it by now, they are way too invested to admit an error.

I am currently listening to Chapter 11 of Volume 1 of The Gulag Archipelago. He frequently refers to people who were put in Gulags, prisons and killed who up to the last minute were dedicated loyal communists.

Some people would rather be dead than be wrong.

I’m sure there are those who would say that of me.

Odd thread emerging on directed-energy attacks on U.S. troops

U.S. troops work with Kurdish forces in Syria in 2018. YouTube , AP video

Now and then, in the annals of journalism, you run into a hardened and deeply-buried lead (or lede; choose your poison), and it’s striking enough that it lurks over the up-front narrative like Nemesis over complacent Greeks. Such is the case with a theme being reported about directed-energy attacks on U.S. troops in Syria.

There have been two articles in the series at Politico now, and in each one there is extensive development of the directed-energy attack theme. Then there’s the deeply-buried lead-let.

It goes by in a flash. The theme speaks of a probe at the Pentagon, and another at the CIA; of a likely attribution to Russia; of a similarity to possibly related events, in recent years, dogging personnel at U.S. diplomatic facilities in Cuba and China and Russia; of briefs to members of Congress.

After the murder conviction of the policeman who killed George Floyd, Virginia’s progressive politicians are calling for passage of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which would allow police departments to be sued when police stops aren’t racially and sexually balanced.

Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) said, “This verdict is a start, but it does not absolve Congress and the federal government of our responsibility to reform policing across the country, and it is a reminder of the need for the Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.”

Virginia’s senior Senator, Mark Warner, called on his Senate colleagues to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act: “George Floyd’s life mattered. Justice has been served…we owe it to Mr. Floyd, his family, and far too many others like him to take meaningful action to reform our policing system. We can start by passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.”

    video – 49 mins 49 secs
Dr Lee Merritt, an Orthopedic Surgeon in Onawa, Iowa, is interviewed by Jeff Dornik and delivers an amazingly comprehensive overview of the motives behind the Covid-pandemic theater. First, she shows that there is no real pandemic and that the public-health practices being mandated are scientifically absurd. Then she reasons that, if obscene profits were the only motive for this crime, it would not be necessary to put so many exotic and toxic components into the vaccines. A simpler product could be sold at the same price with a greater profit margin. Therefore, there must be some additional purpose for the vaccines. She makes a compelling case that the end game is nothing less than human enslavement and massive depopulation – both of which are long-held ideals of those who direct the pharmaceutical cartel. 2021 April 21

  17. Toronto sun – Only white people can be racist: Inside Global Affairs’ anti-racism course materials

“Objectivity” and “worship of the written word” are being taught to Canadian diplomats as markers of “white supremacy”

Monday’s federal budget included a massive expansion of race-based programming, including a new drive for race-focused data collection, funding earmarked for what Ottawa is calling “equity deserving groups” and even a plan to prioritize government procurement from “Black-owned businesses.”

It’s a ramping up of an initiative first begun in 2019, when the Government of Canada began rolling out antiracism training within its departments in a bid to combat a federal bureaucracy that they asserted was shot through with “systemic racism.” Ottawa’s focus on antiracism training became all the more acute after worldwide Black Lives Matter protests prompted by the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd in police custody, which was reflected in the more than $300 million put towards “equity” programs in the 2021 budget.

Through a freedom of information request, the Toronto Sun recently obtained one of the results of this new push: The official antiracist training materials for Global Affairs Canada. The literature is markedly different than Canada’s official antiracism training of only a few years ago, which stressed tolerance and accommodation for an increasingly multicultural workplace. These new course materials explicitly cite as their inspiration “critical race theory,” a growing movement which posits that Western society is immutably tainted by white supremacy, and must be confronted and managed by conscious “antiracist” thinking and policies.

Unlike the anti-discrimination movements of the past — which sought only equal opportunity untainted by prejudice — critical race theorists hold that government and society is so immutably slanted towards white people that ignoring race is itself an act of white supremacy designed to maintain an inequitable status quo. Or, as a protest sign included in the Global Affairs materials put it, “if you aren’t an antiracist, you are complicit.”

Promoted by public intellectuals such as Robin DiAngelo or Ibram X. Kendi, it’s an approach that in recent years has found its way into the highest echelons of power in the United States, and now features in mandatory training for tens of thousands of U.S. bureaucrats and corporate employees. And now, it’s required training for Canada’s diplomats. Below, a taste of what antiracism training looks like at the sharp end for Government of Canada employees.

“If you aren’t an antiracist, you are complicit”

The materials take care to note the very real difficulties of being a person of minority ethnicity working within Global Affairs. “Managers might freely tell a staff that they won’t get posted to a particular country because the country won’t see them as being Canadian or because their ancestry is from that particular country,” reads an excerpt from a 2020 Antiracism Environmental Scan and Climate Review.

It also includes a thoughtful open letter by career diplomat Daniel Quan-Watson in which he attempts to catalogue the unpleasant incidents in his life that he believes can be attributed to racism against his Asian heritage. “I have not spent my life curating a list of injuries,” he writes, but adds they help illustrate to a non-minority reader the “prevalence and centrality of these experiences in Canadian lives.” Among dozens of examples, Quan-Watson describes repeatedly being mistaken for a cab driver or bellhop, and having his Canadian citizenship regularly questioned while abroad. “I have been told at Canadian missions abroad that I couldn’t use certain parts of the facilities because only Canadians had access to those particular areas,” he wrote. (The letter was written in a response to a column in the National Post by Rex Murphy that claimed Canada “was not a racist country”).

In remedying these problems, the course materials stress the concept of racism as a systemic problem that cannot be expunged entirely through education and will persist even without any examples of overt discrimination; the lack of “antiracist” policies will in themselves precipitate a racist system. “It is not just the absence of discrimination of inequities, but also the presence of deliberate systems and supports to achieve and sustain racial equity,” reads the literature.

The Global Affairs materials cite heavily from Dismantling Racism, a widely used workbook that was one of the earlier proponents of critical race theory. “Racism is ordinary, the ‘normal’ way that society does business,” reads Dismantling Racism, adding that “every institution in this country was and is used to prove that race exists and to promote the idea that the white race is at the top of the racial hierarchy and all other races are below, with the Black race on the bottom.”

Boston University professor Ibram X. Kendi is one of the leading proponents of this new view of antiracism, and his book How to be an Antiracist is recommended by the Global Affairs materials for further reading. Kendi has argued that any policy that does not explicitly counteract white supremacy with favourable policies toward non-white people will inevitably return to a racist mean. “There is no neutrality in the racism struggle … there is no in-between safe space of ‘not racist,’” he writes in How to be an Antiracist.

Only white people can be racist

A major tenet of critical race theory is the idea that racism is not just a prejudice, but is a complex, omnipresent system designed to keep people of colour down for the benefit of white people.

In a “Myths and Facts” section opening the document, it is called a myth that non-white people are capable of racism, which is defined as exclusively being the domain of white people. Non-white people can express “racial prejudice,” to be sure (the example provided is “white people can’t dance”) but this doesn’t qualify as racism because of the “systemic relationship to power.” “In Canada, white people hold this cultural power due to Eurocentric modes of thinking, rooted in colonialism, that continue to reproduce and privilege whiteness,” it reads.

This may be one of the reasons that anti-Semitism — a prejudice with a long and ignoble history within Canadian federal policy — is not mentioned once in the Global Affairs materials. While the Global Affairs materials make no mention of Jews, Dismantling Racism, for one, has explicitly stated that critical race theory holds that Jewish people have “become white” and are thus beneficiaries of systemic racism.

Excerpt from Global Affairs Canada anti-racism training materials.

“Perfectionism” and “worship of the written word” are identified as markers of “white supremacy”

The course materials state that while most people associate the term “white supremacy” with hate groups such as the KKK and neo-Nazis, it can equally be applied to any system that affords disproportionate advantage to white people. A glossary accompanying the materials extends a broad definition to “whiteness,” saying it is “dynamic, relational, and operating at all times and on myriad levels.”

A chart outlining examples of “white supremacy culture” includes the principles of “objectivity,” “individualism” and “worship of the written word.” The materials also brand the concept of “pulling oneself up by one’s bootstraps” as an example of “covert white supremacy.” The term “covert white supremacy,” which Global Affairs adopts from the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence, is defined as any white supremacy that is “socially acceptable.”

This view has manifested itself in Canadian public life most notably in October, when B.C. Premier John Horgan was pilloried for saying in an election debate that he “does not see colour.” In an apology the next day, Horgan said “I’m sorry. I’ll never fully understand, as a white person, the lived reality of systemic racism.” Indeed, the Global Affairs materials cite the phrases “but we’re all just one human family” and claiming to be “colourblind” as additional markers of “covert white supremacy.”

“Racism is just as bad in Canada”

The above quote appears in the “myths and facts” section opening the document, in which it is deemed a myth that “Canada race issues are not like the United States.” Participants are then encouraged to read a Huffington Post column explaining further. “It’s true that Canada did not have the Jim Crow laws that enforced segregation in the U.S.,” reads the column. “But the absence of a law doesn’t mean segregation wasn’t rampant here too.”

As stated above, critical race theory holds fast to an idea of an enforced system of race hierarchy that places Black people at the bottom. This is apparent in the Global Affairs literature, even to the exclusion of inequity problems that are more unique to Canada. There is little mention of what is arguably Canada’s greatest act of oppression: Indian Residential Schools. The century-long assimilation of Indigenous children is mostly mentioned in passing as a government policy of “forcefully removing Indigenous children from their homes.” There is no mention whatsoever of Japanese-Canadian internment during the Second World War. The materials stress that they “are not a history course,” but aside from the letter by Quan-Watson, the longstanding history of anti-Asian racism in Canada appears only in a course chart that includes the 1885 Chinese Immigration Act as an example of “overt white supremacy.”

Slavery, by contrast, is mentioned more than a half-dozen times. While chattel slavery did indeed exist for more than two centuries in colonial Canada, with about 3,000 estimated slaves in pre-Confederation Canada, Black historians have argued that it was never the defining institution that it became in the United States, which had four million enslaved Africans on the eve of emancipation.

So, too, is secondary attention given to what is, by any metric, Canada’s most immediate racial problem. From infant mortality to hate crimes to representation in the incarcerated population, Indigenous communities in Canada see rates that aren’t even close to those of non-Indigenous populations of virtually any colour. Nevertheless, course materials repeatedly take a view more in tune with U.S. realities. “Racism specifically and intentionally dehumanizes non-white — and especially Black — peoples,” reads the Global Affairs literature.

  18. Pakistan to launch global campaign against blasphemy

Premier Imran Khan seeks Muslim countries to join campaign against Islamophobia

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said he is going to launch a campaign, seeking Muslim countries’ support to raise the simmering issues of blasphemy and Islamophobia at international forums, including the UN and the EU.

“When we begin a campaign by bringing together all Muslim countries [against Islamophobia and blasphemy], it will make a difference and change will come in the West,” Khan said at a televised ceremony in the capital Islamabad.

The campaign, he said, will help find a “permanent” solution to these issues.

Otherwise, he added, protests and violence will make no difference to the Western world.

He was referring to the ongoing protests across the country by a far-right religious group –Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) – demanding expulsion of the French ambassador over republication of blasphemous caricatures in France last year.

“There will come a time when people in the Western countries will think twice before disrespecting the Holy Prophet ,” Khan went on to say.

Last week, Khan urged the Western countries to outlaw blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad on the lines of the Holocaust.

Expressing concern over a rising wave of Islamophobia, particularly in the West, Khan, in a series of tweets, had said: “I call on Western governments who have outlawed any negative comment on the holocaust to use the same standards to penalize those deliberately spreading their message of hate against Muslims by abusing our Prophet .”

Pakistan, last week, banned the TLP, however, the group is continuing the protests, mainly in northeastern Lahore city.

According to local media, at least seven people, including policemen, were killed and hundreds others injured in pitched battles between the security forces and the TLP supporters across Pakistan in recent days, according to local media.

Protests had broken out in several Muslim countries over France’s response to the murder in October last year of a teacher who showed cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in class.

French President Emmanuel Macron said at the time that France would “not give up our cartoons” while accusing French Muslims of “separatism” and describing Islam as “a religion in crisis.???????

  19. BBC – French police station stabbing: Woman killed in Muslim knife attack

A female police employee has been fatally stabbed in a knife attack at a police station in Rambouillet, south-west of Paris.

The 48-year-old unarmed administrative officer was stabbed in the neck.

The 36-year-old Muslim attacker, who reportedly came to France from Tunisia several years ago, was shot and later died in hospital.

the sun – KNIFE FRENZY ‘Terrorist’ shouting ‘Allahu Akbar stabs female cop to death in the throat after ambushing her at French police station’

A KNIFEMAN allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he killed a female cop by stabbing her in the throat at a police station today.

The assailant was then reportedly shot dead by at least one of her colleagues.

The blade-wielding attacker stormed the entrance to a police station in Rambouillet, near Paris, at about 2pm local time.

He burst in and shouted “Allahu Akbar” – meaning God is the greatest – as he launched the deadly attack, police union official François Bersani told BFM TV.

An investigating source said the officer, a 49-year-old mother-of-two, was caught by surprise after she “popped out of the station to change her parking disc on her car”.

“When she got back into the station, the man was waiting for her and slashed her throat twice with a knife,” they added.

Sadly the victim, an administrative officer in the station, died of her injuries.

French media reported the killer, from Tunisia, was hit by two bullets fired by police officers.

He was aged 37 and had arrived in France as an immigrant without papers, before being given leave to remain, said a source, who added that he “was not known to anti-terrorist officers”.

An investigating source said: “The attack happened just after 2pm. The administrative officer was pounced on by the man, who slit her throat with a knife.

“The assailant was shot dead by police officers soon afterwards, as efforts were made to save the victim.”

Yvan Assioma, of the Alliance Police Union, said his unidentified colleague “died at the scene”, describing her as a “mother of two children who was aged 49”.

Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, said: “The same horrors keep happening, the same infinite sadness when thinking of the relatives and colleagues of this policewoman, the same profiles of people who are guilty of this barbarism, the same Islamist motives.”

Officials said the Versailles prosecutor is investigating but have not revealed if it is being treated as a terror-related incident.

The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office said it is not currently involved.

But Paris region president Valerie Pecresse said on BFM TV that terrorist motives could not be ruled out.

  20. Spain: Lab experiments on insect larvae in attempt to create protein-based COVID vaccine

Scientists at the Algenex production facility in Tres Canton announced they are attempting to use insect larvae as a mini bioreactor in an effort to create a protein based COVID vaccine. Footage filmed at the plant on Thursday shows the production stages of the larvae and materials.

Insects are grown and their eggs are harvested, producing larvae. The larvae evolves into chrysalis which is then inoculated with modified vaccines and infected with COVID.

“Insects contain millions of cells inside their body in perfect physiological conditions, and if we know how to program them we could produce exactly the same molecule that the pharmaceutical industry produces in their complex bioreactors, which are complex and expensive,” explained Algenex chief scientific officer Jose Escribano.

“We just validated our technology to produce a [COVID] vaccine in the European Medicines Agency. This is a process that takes, more or less, a year and that we’ll end before this summer, we’ll have the approval for the first injectable vaccine,” Escribano said.

SOT, Jose Escribano, Chief scientific officer and owner of Algenex (Spanish): “Approximately 30 percent of the COVID vaccines in development that still didn’t reach the market, because it takes so much time to develop them, are based in proteins. Those which have already reached the market are based in virical vectors, in RNA. The first protein ones are about to reach the market and, as I said, 30 per cent of the vaccines in development are based in proteins. These vaccines are expected to be very effective and with a long lasting immune response, and we could produce, to all these formulations, the vaccines using our technology.”

SOT, Jose Escribano, Chief scientific officer and owner of Algenex (Spanish): “We replaced these complex systems with a natural organism, an insect. Why do we use an insect? Because insects contain millions of cells inside their body in perfect physiological conditions, and if we know how to program them we could produce exactly the same molecule that the pharmaceutical industry produces in their complex bioreactors, which are complex and expensive.”

SOT, Jose Escribano, Chief scientific officer and owner of Algenex (Spanish): “What we do is to keep them in highly restrictive pharmaceutical conditions, isolated from the medium, so our insects grow in the needed pharmaceutical conditions. Once we have produced the insect’s eggs, we take them to another place in the plant where we plant them in mass growing modules. Here, the insect evolves through the different larval phases until it becomes a chrysalis. The chrysalis is the organism we use in production.”

SOT, Jose Escribano, Chief scientific officer and owner of Algenex (Spanish): “This is the moment where we collect the chrysalis and take it to the production department, where we inoculate a virical vector that only infects this insect and that can be genetically modified. It’s very safe for humans and animals and this virus is what programs the chrysalis’ cells to produce the molecule we want.”

SOT, Jose Escribano, Chief scientific officer and owner of Algenex (Spanish): “We just validated our technology to produce a [COVID] vaccine in the EMA (European Medicines Agency). This is a process that takes more or less a year and that we’ll end before this summer, we’ll have the approval for the first injectable vaccine.”

Top congressional Democrats including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are pushing new laws to stamp out “domestic terrorism.” But they’re targeting only right-wing organizations. If rioters are looting and setting fires for a leftist cause, that’s OK.

President Joe Biden’s newly appointed attorney general, Merrick Garland, labels the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol invasion as “domestic terror,” but refuses to apply the same term to the left-wing rioters who attacked the Portland federal courthouse last summer.

The Democrats’ efforts to label only right-leaning groups as domestic terrorists is un-American. The First Amendment guarantees that we can join any political group we like, as long as we don’t commit a crime.

If protesters attack a courthouse, assault cops or loot stores, there are enough laws on the books to punish them. And offenders should get the same treatment, whether they identify with antifa or the Proud Boys.

Tell that to Schumer. He introduced a Senate resolution calling on the FBI and intelligence community to examine the leadership and membership of right-wing groups and “prioritize the investigation and prosecution of such groups.”

Students at Ohio State University staged a sit-in protest Wednesday over the fatal police shooting of a teen girl wielding a knife who attempted to stab two people. The protesters demanded that the university sever ties with the Columbus Division of Police, the Ohio law enforcement department whose officer shot and killed 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant at the exact moment she lunged with a knife at another girl.

Several hundred protesters gathered at the Ohio Union, which serves as a student activity center and dining area for students of Ohio State University. Students held signs that called for the city of Columbus to abolish its police department, support for Black Lives Matter, another sign that demanded “CPD out of OSU,” and one that reads “ACAB,” an acronym for “All Cops Are Bastards.” The crowd of Ohio State students held a 16-minute moment of silence for Bryant.

  27. Indian COVID-19 Variant Found In Belgium: Health Official

The Covid-19 variant contributing to a surge in coronavirus cases in India has been detected in Belgium in a group of Indian students who arrived from Paris, Belgian authorities said Thursday.

Twenty nursing students, who arrived in Belgium in mid-April after travelling from the French capital’s Charles de Gaulle airport, have tested positive for the variant, the office of government commissioner Pedro Facon told AFP, confirming media reports.

The students have been placed in quarantine in Aalst and Leuven in northern Belgium where they had been due to begin a training course.

Several experts have suggested they may have been victims of a “super-spreader” — either a member of their group, or another passenger on the bus that brought them to Belgium from Paris.

“These students have been respecting strict isolation since their arrival. Twenty of the 43 students are as of today infected by the ‘Indian’ variant,” tweeted microbiologist Emmanuel Andre of the Catholic University of Leuven.

Virologist Marc Van Ranst, another expert who has been prominent in Belgian coverage of the crisis, told a Flemish radio station that the group had landed in Paris on April 12. Several of the students began having virus symptoms five days later, he said.
The B.1.617 variant has already appeared elsewhere, including in the United States, Australia, Israel and Singapore. Concern about it has led some countries, including the UK, to slap travel restrictions on India.

    • global news – Rise in sudden COVID-19 deaths at home still a mystery, Ontario chief coroner says

TORONTO — An increase in the number of COVID-19 patients dying unexpectedly at home without having called for an ambulance is a troubling new trend that needs further investigation, Ontario’s chief coroner said on Friday.

Why exactly patients who don’t appear to be seriously ill are suddenly taking a drastic turn for the worse has yet to be determined, Dirk Huyer said in an interview.

“They didn’t have severe symptoms that would typically have people go to the hospital,” Huyer said. “It’s still work that we’re trying to work through. It certainly seems that people are passing more quickly than we saw earlier.”

Between April 1 and April 22, coroners have seen 25 cases of people in southern and central Ontario who have died of coronavirus disease at home. Ages of the victims ranged from the late 20s to their late 80s.

“I don’t see a specific factor that I would say, ‘hey, this is something we’ve seen throughout these,’” Huyer said.

While the numbers of home deaths are likely higher — Huyer was unable to quantify the increase and statistics for about half the province are not yet available — they are still relatively small. As of Friday, Ontario reported 7,863 people have died from COVID-19, with 34 new deaths. An average of more than dozen deaths are being reported daily, most occurring in hospitals.

Coroners have yet to identify a common thread to the home deaths beyond noting the increase.

What’s clear, however, is that something different occurring. Patients who appeared stable and not in needed of hospital care suddenly deteriorated.

“They weren’t situations where an ambulance wasn’t able to attend,” Huyer said. “There was no call-out to ambulances.”

The vast majority of infected patients have, throughout the pandemic, been able to recover at home, sparing hospitals and intensive care units an unmanageable onslaught of admissions. Several major hospitals have set up sophisticated outpatient programs to allow for remote monitoring of the progress of the disease.

Huyer said he wasn’t trying to scare anyone by raising the issue of rising home deaths. His key purpose, he said, was to highlight the seriousness of COVID-19 and to give people information to make more informed choices.

“What’s important is for people to have awareness and recognize the seriousness of the illness,” Huyer said. “Even if it was limited information, I though it was important for people to have that perspective.”

ctv news – Ontario confirms second case of blood clotting linked to AstraZeneca vaccine

TORONTO — A second case of blood clotting linked to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has been confirmed in Ontario, health officials said.

A man in his 60s from Hamilton is receiving care in hospital after he developed rare blood clotting, known as vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia, following his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, Hamilton Public Health said Friday evening.

This case comes just hours after Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said another Ontario man in his 60s is recovering at home after suffering the same issue.

In an interview with CTV News Toronto on Friday, the son of the Hamilton man who suffered the blood clotting said his father is currently in a critical condition at Hamilton General Hospital.

“He’s been in hospital since April 18,” his son, who did not want to be identified to protect the family’s privacy, said. “The diagnosis was a severe stroke due to a blood clot in the brain.”

He said his father received the COVID-19 vaccine in early April and was fine until he started getting confused about two weeks later.

He said his mother called 911 after he passed out getting a glass of water in the middle of the night.

“At about 3 a.m. my mother heard a crash, my father had got up to get a glass a water and end up facedown unconscious on the living room floor,” he said.

He said his father’s condition is “still touch-and-go” and he will require treatment in the intensive care unit for the “foreseeable future.”

“Ultimately, my father is going to need care for the rest of his life if he ever comes out of hospital,” he said.

“It’s one in a million that this would happen to our family.”

Instances of blood clotting linked to the vaccine have been reported around the world and in other parts of Canada, but experts say the instances are rare.

“While these serious reactions remain extremely rare, there is a robust process in place to monitor for any adverse events and have taken steps to ensure that these events are identified and treated as quickly as possible,” Hamilton’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Elizabeth Richardson said in a statement Friday.

Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) had advised provinces to pause the use of the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine in people under the age of 55 because of the safety concerns. On Thursday, the committee revised its recommendation and said that the vaccine can now be offered to people 30 and over.

However, Health Canada has maintained that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh the risks of getting COVID-19, and the agency approved the use of the vaccine for people 18 years old and over.

Premier Doug Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliott and Toronto Mayor John Tory all received their first dose of the AstraZeneca shots on camera recently in order to dispel concerns over the vaccine.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, received their first doses of the vaccine in the afternoon on Friday.

Earlier this week, the Ontario government began offering the vaccine to people 40 years old and over in pharmacies and primary care settings.

Williams reiterated in his statement on Friday that all COVID-19 vaccines administered in Canada are safe and prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death related to the deadly disease.
