1. What have you done, Angela? Rival turns on Merkel over mission to ‘Europeanise’ Germany

ANGELA Merkel is hell-bent on an increased “Europeanisation” of Germany, regardless of the material cost to her own country, a former MEP has said.

And Hans-Olaf Henkel has said her attitude is typified by Germany’s response to the coronavirus pandemic prioritising equality over speed by committing to an EU-wide approach which he further claimed has cost lives. Mr Henkel, who stood down from the European Parliament in 2019, was speaking before the passing today of emergency legislation enabling Mrs Merkel to go over the heads of regional leaders by imposing mandatory lockdowns on states with an infection rate of more than 100 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased today by 10,810 to 3,022,323, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed.

The reported death toll rose by 294 to 78,746, the tally showed.

(The definition of “infections” and “cases” remain some kind of open secret. But as it likely means the testing of healthy people, or people with symptoms of other things like allergies with a PCR test at 40+ cycles, it seems more like an excuse than like medicine)

2. New Hampshire governor says mask mandate will be lifted ‘wicked soon’

New Hampshire’s mask mandate will be lifted “wicked soon,” the state’s governor said on Wednesday.

Gov. Chris Sununu said most of the state’s COVID-19 regulations will end before Memorial Day, and in justifying the decision, he mentioned New Hampshire’s success in quickly distributing the vaccine to vulnerable populations.

“The mask mandate will be ending very, very, very, very soon. We’re there. We’re really there,” the Republican said in a conversation with the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth, adding, “I can’t tell you exactly what date it’s going to be, but I think the term we use in New Hampshire is ‘wicked soon.'”

When asked what other COVID-19-related restrictions might be lifted soon, he responded that “virtually all of them” would be lifted “way before Memorial Day.”

5. U.S. cancels warships deployment to Black Sea -Turkish diplomatic sources

ANKARA (Reuters) – The United States has cancelled the deployment of two warships to the Black Sea, Turkish diplomatic sources said on Wednesday, amid concerns over a Russian military build-up on Ukraine’s borders.

Washington and NATO have been alarmed by the build-up near Ukraine and in Crimea, the peninsula that Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Last week, Turkey said Washington would send two warships to the Black Sea, in a decision Russia called an unfriendly provocation.

The U.S. Embassy in Ankara had notified Turkey’s foreign ministry of the move, the sources said, but did not provide a reason. Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency later reported that no new notices had been conveyed to Ankara for potential deployments at later dates.
