1. US will temporarily halt use of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine

Federal health agencies will temporarily stop using Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose vaccine after six women developed blood clots, including one who died, according to officials and a new report Tuesday. 

The Food and Drug Adminstration announced the pause, saying there’ve been a half-dozen reports of a “rare & severe type of blood clot” in patients who received the vaccine. 

The clots were observed along with reduced platelet counts, making the usual treatment for blood clots — the blood thinner heparin — potentially “dangerous.”

“Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare,” the agency tweeted in a joint statement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

WASHINGTON — Federal health agencies on Tuesday called for an immediate pause in use of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose coronavirus vaccine after six recipients in the United States developed a rare disorder involving blood clots within about two weeks of vaccination.

All six recipients were women between the ages of 18 and 48. One woman died and a second woman in Nebraska has been hospitalized in critical condition.

Nearly seven million people in the United States have received Johnson & Johnson shots so far, and roughly nine million more doses have been shipped out to the states, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution,” Dr. Peter Marks, director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, and Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the C.D.C., said in a joint statement. “Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare.”

3. Avoiding CocaCola brands is tricky. Here is a list of the companies they own and the brands they sell. Its easier to suggest what to get. One thing that is safe, is getting one of the machines that turn water into seltzer (unsalted soda water) and adding flavoured syrup you can buy, or just adding fruit juice concentrate, or just a little fruit juice makes a stellar drink. Really refreshing and no woke component that profits the companies that are the vanguard of the communist revolution. Or just drink the seltzer which is really refreshing all on its own, Also now there are private companies here and there who sell CO2 refills for half the price of the big brand. So its both cheap and on-demand summer drinks. And takes no space in the fridge.

There is a little ironic leftist wokeism in the Soda Stream story though. Soda Stream started out in Judea-Samaria area of Israel. They employed hundreds if not thousands of Palestinians and Israelis for better jobs generally available in Gaza. Leftists who attack anything Israeli, protested until the company had to move into the parts of Israel that is currently less “disputed” than Judea-Samaria, costing an awful lot of good jobs for the Arabs in the region.
