Reader’s Links for April 12, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. – You all see where this is heading? –

Vaccine Refusal Will Come at a Cost—For All of Us

People who refuse to get the COVID-19 vaccine will have higher health-care costs. The rest of us will foot the bill.

Imagine it’s 2026. A man shows up in an emergency room, wheezing. He’s got pneumonia, and it’s hitting him hard. He tells one of the doctors that he had COVID-19 a few years earlier, in late 2021. He had refused to get vaccinated, and ended up contracting the coronavirus months after most people got their shots.

Why did he refuse? Something about politics, or pushing back on government control, or a post he saw on Facebook. He doesn’t really remember. His lungs do, though: By the end of the day, he’s on a ventilator.

You’ll pay for that man’s decisions. So will I. We all will—in insurance premiums, if he has a plan with your provider, or in tax dollars, if the emergency room he goes to is in a public hospital.

The vaccine refusers could cost us billions. Maybe more, over the next few decades, with all the complications they could develop. And we can’t do anything about it except hope that more people get their shots than those who say they will right now.

    • The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
      To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
      Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black,
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads onto way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
      Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I —
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.

      • “When you see a dog following two men,” says Mr Ralph Erskine, in one of his sermons, “you know not to which of them he belongs while they walk together; but let them come to a parting road, and one go one way, and the other another way, then you will know which is the dog’s master.

So at times, religion and the world go hand in hand.

While a man may have the world and a religious profession too, we cannot tell which is the man’s master, God or the world; but stay till the man come to a parting road [or fork in the road]: God calls him this way, and the world calls him that way. Well, if God be his master, he follows religion, and lets the world go; but if the world be his master, then he follows the world and the lust thereof, and lets God, and conscience, and religion go.” Whitecross

      Excerpt:
According to an article in The Telegraph, recent data shows that Covid vaccine side effects are seen up to three times more often in people who have previously had COVID-19. The data comes from the King’s College ZOE app which has logged details from more than 700,000 vaccinations. The ZOE data shows that 12.2% of people reported side effects after their first dose of Pfizer vaccine, but that jumped to 35.7% in people who had previously had COVID-19. For the AstraZeneca vaccine, 31.9% of people reported symptoms following their shot, rising to 52.7% for people who had previously been infected with COVID-19.
      AND
Dr. J Barton Williams, a 36-year-old orthopedic surgeon from Tennessee, is one such case. According to a local news report, Dr. Williams died of a “COVID-related illness” known as multi-system inflammatory syndrome that causes inflammation in the blood vessels and other tissues. He also tested positive for COVID antibodies, meaning he previously had COVID-19 but never knew it. Dr. Williams died just weeks after receiving his second Covid vaccination.

  2. The next mayor of London? Interview with Actor Laurence Fox: “You lose, you lose, you lose, you lose and then you win. (In it for the long haul)

    • A very high percentage of Londoners are Muslim and they always vote for their own. This is how Khan became mayor. It will be interesting to see how this goes and I hope this Fox guy sticks around for the next election should he lose the upcoming one.

    • What a great interview. I usually don’t watch an hour of anything, just don’t have time but I watched this one. And when it was over, wished there were more. Laurence Fox has way more intelligence, character, honesty and courage than I ever thought he’d have. He won’t win, or course, but kudos to the man for using a candidate’s political platform to talk about the Orwellian life being inflicted on us, not just in Britain, but around the Western world

    • I know. I saw that and had bad thoughts.
I also know that 94% of Dutch Jews died in the Holocaust, more than collaborationist France. More than Mussolini’s Italy.

But my Dad said we must always be grateful for the refuge the Netherlands gave to us long, long ago. The nusach he learned still had terms from that sojourn.

When Peter the Great visited Europe to modernize his realm, he invited some of us to Russia – his special guests. We went to India with the Dutch; we came to New Amsterdam.

They were a whole lot better, for a whole lot longer than the rest of Christian Europe.

  3. Unfortunately Zerohedge has the most comprehensive article I can find on this right now.

On China’s electronic currency revolution: it seems the currency is not blockchain tech, but the central bank may use blockchain tech. Digital currency, but not blockchain, allows the possibility of reaching 300,000 transactions per second.

The “…Keynesian wet dream…” to have a currency with an expiration date in order to boost the velocity of money when needed.

And a tracking and control.freak’s dream, too.

Our domestic banking Lords are watching and licking their chops, for sure. Western governments should be pooling their hacking skills to cripple this thing.

Republican AGs plan to create legal roadblocks for Biden agenda

    Fox 5 DC video

    By Thomas Catenacci

Republican attorneys general are determined to mount numerous legal challenges against President Joe Biden, creating a formidable roadblock to the president’s agenda.

In less than three months since President Joe Biden was sworn into office, Republican states have waged war on his agenda, suing the administration on climate change, energy, immigration and taxation policy. But the conservative attorneys general who started filing the lawsuits in March said they aren’t done yet and expect to continue challenging the administration in court.

“We are sharpening the pencils and filling up the inkwells,” Louisiana Attorney General and former Republican Attorneys General Association Chairman Jeff Landry, who is leading two of the ongoing lawsuits against the Biden administration, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

    • DAILY MAIL – Pentagon scientists reveal a microchip that senses COVID-19 in your body BEFORE you show symptoms and a filter that extracts the virus from blood

Scientists at the Pentagon’s secretive unit are researching viruses and developing pandemic cures
They work at Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and other Pentagon laboratories
DARPA’s teams saw COVID-19 infected 1,271 onboard USS Theodore Roosevelt as the virus spread unchecked

      ——————————————

In response they have developed a microchip to detect asymptomatic COVID in a bid to prevent an outbreak

The chip is inserted below skin and triggers a sensor if COVID infects the body

DARPA have also created a filter which can remove COVID virus from the blood when attached to dialysis

They are working on a vaccine that would work against all coronaviruses, even ones not yet identified

The team also successfully manufactured antibodies against Spanish Flu

      =============================

Pentagon scientists working inside a secretive unit set up at the height of the Cold War have created a microchip to be inserted under the skin, which will detect COVID-19 infection, and a revolutionary filter that can remove the virus from the blood when attached to a dialysis machine.

The team at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) have been working for years on preventing and ending pandemics.

They assess the issues and come up with ingenious solutions, which at times appear more from a science fiction novel than a working laboratory.

One of their recent inventions, they told 60 Minutes on Sunday night, was a microchip which detects COVID infection in an individual before it can become an outbreak.

    • CNBC – WHO says Covid pandemic is growing ‘exponentially’ at more than 4.4 million new cases a week

The WHO said the trajectory of the pandemic is now “growing exponentially” at more than 4.4 million new Covid-19 cases.

Maria Van Kerkhove, the agency’s technical lead for Covid-19, said “we’re in a critical point of the pandemic.”

“This is not the situation we want to be in 16 months into a pandemic where we have proven control measures,” she said.

      ———————————————————–

The World Health Organization said Monday the trajectory of the coronavirus pandemic is now “growing exponentially,” with more than 4.4 million new Covid-19 cases reported over the last week.

Maria Van Kerkhove, the agency’s technical lead for Covid-19, said “we’re in a critical point of the pandemic,” as some countries ease restrictions even as new cases per week are more than eight times higher than a year ago.

“This is not the situation we want to be in 16 months into a pandemic where we have proven control measures. It is the time right now where everyone has to take stock and have a reality check of what we need to be doing,” she said during a press briefing. “Vaccines and vaccinations are coming online, but they aren’t here yet in every part of the world.”

Covid-19 cases climbed by 9% across the globe last week — the seventh consecutive weekly increase — and deaths jumped 5%, she said, asking governments to support their citizens in implementing pandemic safety measures.

Last month, WHO officials warned of a steady rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths, urging people to stick with mask mandates and social distancing rules as the world enters a critical phase of the pandemic.

The virus is “stronger, it’s faster” with the emergence of new variants that spread more easily and are more deadly than the original wild strain of the virus, Dr. Mike Ryan, the head of the WHO’s health emergencies program, said March 31. “We’re all struggling” with and sick of restrictive lockdowns, he said.

India has overtaken Brazil as the second worst-infected country behind the United States after Covid-19 cases continued to surge across India where a double-mutant variant researchers say could be more contagious has emerged and is rapidly spreading.

In the U.S., B.1.1.7, the highly contagious coronavirus variant first identified in the United Kingdom is now the most common strain circulating, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said last week.

Hospitals are also seeing a rise in young people being admitted, she said.

Walensky said the U.S. needs to accelerate its vaccination efforts, which are averaging about 3.1 million shots per day. “We must continue to vaccinate as many Americans as we can each day,” Walensky said, adding it will cause new cases and deaths to decline.

The WHO urged the public and world leaders to continue to practice safety measures, including social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands and avoiding crowded spaces.

      • ANGUS REID SURVEY – COVID-19: Third wave drives surge of criticism for Kenney, Ford, and other premiers –

One-in-five 18-to-34-year old’s ‘very concerned’ about illness, highest level since pandemic began

As provinces adjust to rising daily case counts and the logistical challenges of mass inoculation, new data from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute finds Canadians increasingly disappointed in their provincial leaders. At least half in Saskatchewan (50%), Manitoba (59%), Ontario (65%), and Alberta (75%) now say that their premier is doing a poor job handling the pandemic.

The reasons for these opinions, however, are varied. In Ontario, the sense that the government took too long to implement new restrictions drives negative views. Indeed, 61 per cent of Ontarians called for tougher restrictions in their province while this public opinion survey was being conducted. Notably, the government introduced a new stay-at-home order on Thursday, just as fielding finished.

But Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has a different problem to solve. Nearly half (45%) of his constituents say the regulations in place already go too far – the highest number saying this in the country – while close to the same number (42%) say that they don’t go far enough.

Overall, half of Canadians (48%) say that their communities need tighter restrictions to stem rising infections, while 28 per cent disagree. One-quarter (24%) say their community has found the right balance.

    • CBS – Military programs aiming to end pandemics forever

Bill Whitaker reports on the Pentagon projects that helped combat COVID-19 and may help end pandemics forever.

It might surprise you to learn that many of the innovations deployed to counter the coronavirus were once obscure Pentagon-funded projects to defend soldiers from contagious diseases and biological weapons. The life-saving vaccine developed in record time owes a debt to these programs. To learn more, we met the man who has been leading the rapid vaccine effort, retired Colonel Matt Hepburn. An army infectious disease physician, he spent years with the secretive defense advanced research projects agency or DARPA, working on technology he hopes will ensure COVID-19 is the last pandemic.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: If we wanna say we can never let this happen again, we’re gonna have to go even faster next time.

Eight years ago, Dr. Hepburn was recruited by DARPA.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: The DARPA director was very clear. “Your mission is to take pandemics off the table.”

      Bill Whitaker: It sounds impossible.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: Of course, and that was the beauty of the DARPA model. We challenge the research community to come up with solutions that may sound like science fiction. And we’re very willing to take chances with high-risk investments that may not work. But if they do, we can completely transform the landscape.

More than 60 years ago, DARPA was born, after President Eisenhower was caught off guard when Russia launched the first satellite, “Sputnik”, into orbit.

The small Defense Department agency was given a single purpose: prevent surprises like that from ever happening again. So Dr. Hepburn finds academics, companies, inventors working in garages — and pushes them to deliver.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: What we don’t do — we don’t say, “Okay, here’s our problem. Here’s your blank check. Come back to us in three to five years, we’ll see how you do.

      Bill Whitaker: You’re on them?

Dr. Matt Hepburn: Active program management is what we call it. Okay? (LAUGH)

Dr. Hepburn showed us a few current projects, some sound like they’re from an episode of “Star Trek.” Consider a ship like the USS Theodore Roosevelt — hobbled last year when 1,271 crew members tested positive for the coronavirus. What if everyone on board had their health monitored with this subdermal implant, now in late-stage testing. It’s not some dreaded government microchip to track your every move, but a tissue-like gel engineered to continuously test your blood.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: It’s a sensor.

Bill Whitaker: This tiny green thing in there?

Dr. Matt Hepburn: That tiny green thing in there, you put it underneath your skin and what that tells you is that there are chemical reactions going on inside the body and that signal means you are going to have symptoms tomorrow.

Bill Whitaker: Wow. There’s an– an actual transmitter in that–

Dr. Matt Hepburn: Yeah. It’s like a “check engine” light.

Bill Whitaker: Check this sailor out before he infects other people?

      Dr. Matt Hepburn: That’s right.

Sailors would get the signal, then self-administer a blood draw and test themselves on site.

      Bill Whitaker: Look at that.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: We can have that information in three to five minutes.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: As you truncate that time, as you diagnose and treat, what you do is you stop the infection in its tracks.

The coronavirus has infected more than 250,000 Defense Department personnel and their dependents around the world. With the death toll rising, the Pentagon has been jumpstarting programs that might save lives.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: This is a filter that you can put on a dialysis machine.

“Patient 16”, a military spouse, was in the ICU, near death with organ failure and septic shock when she was entered into a Defense Department COVID-19 study. Her family allowed us to witness the experimental 4-day treatment.

Dr. Gaeta: She’s liberated from veso-active medications and her septic shock resolved. We also see improvements in her markers of inflammation. Those are all positive prognostic signs.

Bill Whitaker: You pass someone’s blood through this–

Dr. Matt Hepburn: You pass it through–

Bill Whitaker: –it takes the virus out

Dr. Matt Hepburn: Takes the virus out, and puts the blood back in.

Within days, Patient 16 made a full recovery. The FDA has authorized the filter for emergency use. So far, doctors have used it to treat nearly 300 critically ill patients.

Dr. Joel Moncur: These are all of the COVID-19 autopsy samples that we’ve received– since the pandemic began.

DARPA isn’t the only Pentagon agency on the frontlines. Colonel Joel Moncur, directs the Joint Pathology Institute in D.C. He leads an elite group of medical detectives, who study tissue samples from soldiers and sailors infected with pathogens all over the world. Like the damaged lung of a recent COVID-19 victim.

Dr. Joel Moncur: This is something we call diffuse alveolar damage. And it really interferes with the ability for them to get enough oxygen in their lungs.

The institute’s century-old repository, the world’s largest, houses tens of millions of tissue blocks preserved in wax, thin-sliced for close observation on glass slides. This biomedical treasure trove is being digitized using artificial intelligence.

Dr. Joel Moncur: Amongst these are tissue samples from people who died from the Spanish flu pandemic.

Dr. Moncur is examining the current pandemic through the lens of the past. The 1918 Spanish Flu took more American soldiers’ lives in World War I than were killed in combat. The military never forgot.

Bill Whitaker: This is from the 1918 pandemic. My god.

Dr. Joel Moncur: It is. And the scientific community needed to understand why it was so deadly. And this tissue was invaluable– because it allowed us to characterize the virus at a genetic level– and from there some incredible experiments happened that allowed the virus to actually be reconstructed.

In 2005, scientists at the tissue repository, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and the CDC, made headlines around the world when they resurrected the deadly 1918 virus. That’s when Dr. James Crowe, an infectious disease researcher at Vanderbilt, joined the team. He went looking for survivors of the 1918 flu, hunting for live human antibodies — the proteins manufactured by our bodies to fight disease.

Dr. James Crowe: And lo and behold, if we took blood cells out of these– nearly 100-year-old people, they still had immune cells that were circulating in their body that had reacted to the 1918 influenza. That was one of those moments for me when I just said, “Wow, that– that’s very powerful and interesting.”

Bill Whitaker: So you find the antibodies in survivors who are almost 100 years old or more. Then what?

Dr. James Crowe: Well, once we have the genetic sequence, which is the DNA sequence, it’s a string of letters that encodes the antibody, essentially, we have the recipe to make it again. And– now we have a drug substance that we can use to prevent or treat that infection.

Dr. Crowe and CDC scientists infected lab animals with the deadly 1918 virus and cured them.

      Bill Whitaker: And what happened?

Dr. James Crowe: Well, the antibody, like a heat-seeking missile, floats around in the animal, finds the virus, latches onto the virus and inactivates. Stops it– in its tracks — for us, after we had done that, we realized, “Wow, your body is a library of everything you’ve ever seen. Then we started thinking, as medical researchers, we could find the cure to virtually anything that had ever occurred– on the planet.

In 2017, Dr. Crowe entered a DARPA grant competition to produce antibody antidotes fast enough to stop a pandemic. Dr. Matt Hepburn described the program at a TED Talk last year.

Dr. Matt Hepburn at Ted Talk: 20,000 doses in 60 days. Basically, we’re talking about engineering antibodies that are so effective that you get near-immediate protection once they’re administered and you interrupt transmission in those communities. If you can interrupt it then potentially you can head off the Pandemic.”

Dr. James Crowe: When we first saw the grant call that was inviting people to respond (LAUGH) we thought it was ridiculous– (LAUGH) We were getting antibodies in six to 24 months, which we thought was pretty spectacular. And– and they put the call out for 60 days– and we just said, “That can’t be done.”

Dr. Matt Hepburn: For us, at DARPA, if the experts are laughing at you and saying it’s impossible, you’re in the right space.

Bill Whitaker: So are you actually sitting there with, you know, 60 days? (MAKES NOISE) Set a, set a stopwatch

Dr. Matt Hepburn: Yes. We say, “Here’s your money. But then here’s the stopwatch. We’re gonna do a capability demonstration.” Jargon words, but what it means is, stopwatch and show us how fast you can go.

Don’t be fooled by that smile, Dr. Hepburn is a hard taskmaster. Stopwatch in hand, he set up a simulated Zika virus outbreak. He gave Dr. Crowe $28 million and his first challenge: test every cell in a vial of survivor’s blood and find a cure. They did, in 78 days.

Dr. James Crowe: We’re used to getting all As. And, you know, Matt was kinda giving us a C for effort. We were preparing to do a simulated sprint number two. And in the middle of that COVID happened. And so DARPA turned to us and said, “No more simulations. This is real. We need you to deliver antibodies for COVID.”

Dr. Crowe’s team at Vanderbilt quarantined in the lab and worked ’round the clock to find lifesaving antibodies in the blood of COVID survivors.

Dr. James Crowe: We– have to do experiments that are a little bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. We take their blood and we look through millions and millions of cells.

Dr. James Crowe: You have a library of immunity in your body to everything you’ve ever seen. So we have to look through those and find the ones for the particular virus of interest and pull them out.

Bill Whitaker: That’s the needle in the haystack.

Dr. James Crowe: That’s the needle, exactly.

Dr. Crowe’s lab delivered an antibody treatment to drugmaker AstraZeneca in a record 25 days. Others funded by the government’s pandemic response program also shattered Matt Hepburn’s 60-day mark, including biotech company AbCellera, working with Eli Lilly and Regeneron, which was used to treat President Trump.

Dr. James Crowe: This is the new normal. It’s gonna be 60 days from here on out.

Well not quite yet – currently, antibodies are grown in a bioreactor like one at this Defense Department Rapid Response Plant in Florida. It’ll take three weeks for this to produce 7,500 doses.

Dr. James Crowe: And so– a lot of scientists are trying to figure out, can this be done faster?

Dr. Crowe has successfully tested a faster way: RNA, the genetic tool DARPA helped pioneer that was used to make the coronavirus vaccine in record time. In the next outbreak — RNA would allow factories like this to churn out millions of doses a day.

Dr. James Crowe: We would start from– a blood sample from a survivor and be done with all of this and be giving you an injection of the cure within the 60 days.

With their promise of speed, immediate protection, and a cure, Dr. Hepburn says RNA antibodies could stop the next Wuhan-like outbreak cold.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: It’s really beyond vaccines, That’s our future. That’s our next step.

Dr. Matt Hepburn: Shoot for the moon.

Some Pentagon researchers are shooting higher. With the spread of dangerous new coronavirus variants, the Army’s Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad is testing a revolutionary approach to stop them all.

Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad: We’re trying to not just make a vaccine for this virus, we’re trying to make a vaccine for the whole family of coronaviruses. This is the core of our vaccine. We engineer the spike so that we can attach it to this protein.

If his concept, now in clinical trials, proves successful, Dr. Modjarrad says in five years a single vaccine could defeat all coronaviruses: that means many common colds, the deadly strain causing this pandemic and thousands of others.

Bill Whitaker: Is that at this point– a dream?

Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad: This is not science fiction, this is science fact. We have the tools, we have the technology, to do this all right now.

Bill Whitaker: And you think we can, at some point, inoculate the world against these killer viruses.

Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad: Killer viruses that we haven’t seen or even imagined, we’ll be protected against.

    • Bulgarian PM reveals price for EU’s new vaccine contract with Pfizer

OFIA/BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has revealed that a big new vaccine supply contract that the European Union is seeking from Pfizer-BioNTech from 2022 will be at a significantly increased price.

The bloc is seeking the new supply deal with the two companies for up to 1.8 billion vaccines, of which is 900 million optional, to be delivered in 2022 and 2023, Reuters reported on Friday.

Borissov, speaking on Sunday, said the EU was negotiating the new contract at a price of 19.5 euros ($23.22) per dose.

“The prices are going up quickly,” Borissov said during a trip to a village in southern Bulgaria.

“Pfizer’s (price) was 12 euros, then increased to 15.5 euros. Now for 2022 and 2023 the European Union contracts are being signed for 900 million vaccines, but already at a price of 19.5 euros,” he said.

That is a significant increase from 15.5 euros per dose the EU has paid for the 600 million Pfizer shots it has so far contracted, according to an EU internal document and officials.

An EU official involved in talks with vaccine makers confirmed the price cited by Borissov for the new contract but said negotiations had not been wrapped up yet.

The new contract would cover variants, meaning that the companies would offer enhanced shots if mutations of the coronavirus became prevalent, a second EU official said.

Borissov said: “Roughly this will cost 18 billion euros, at least … That means that in the new budgets financial experts should earmark bigger, much bigger buffers for vaccines.”

Borissov’s government was among EU states who initially declined to buy their full share of Pfizer shots secured by the EU because they considered the vaccine too expensive, several EU officials have said.

The Balkan country of 7 million people, which has initially bet mainly on the AstraZeneca vaccine, has suffered from delays and decreased deliveries of its vaccines to the EU.

At present, Sofia has vaccinated some 7.7% of its population with a first dose, the slowest rate in the EU.

Borissov said his centre-right government has secured the deliveries of some 2.7 million Pfizer doses until the middle of June that should speed up rollout and ensure herd immunity for Bulgarians.

      ==================================================

Bulgarian PM: price of Pfizer vaccine jumps from €12 to €19,50

“Pfizer cost €12, then €15.50. The Commission now signs contracts for €19,50”, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov revealed on Sunday.

The European Commission is in talks with Pfizer for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines in 2022 and 2023. Borissov said the contracts provide for €19.50 per dose.

Borissov boasted how European solidarity and his diplomatic efforts had secured an additional 2.7 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine to be delivered to Bulgaria in the next two months.

“Pfizer was €12, then it became €15.50. Contracts are now being signed for 900 million vaccines at a price of €19.50,” the PM said, to illustrate his claim that prices are rising sharply.

“Now we are most afraid of the French variant. So many more variants will appear … Because €19.50 for 900 million will cost nearly €18 billion.
First with a jab, then a second, third and fourth,” Borissov continued, adding that experts must set much higher budgets for vaccines in the upcoming budget.

Under an agreement with the vaccine producing companies, the European Commission has so far refused to reveal the price of vaccines. However, last December Belgian Secretary of State Eva De Bleeker shared on Twitter the vaccine prices negotiated by the Commission, as well as the number of doses purchased by her government. Then, it became known that the AstraZeneca jab costs €1.78 compared to €12 for Pfizer-BioNTech.

Borissov is known for often revealing in public, following EU summits, information that should normally be kept confidential. Regarding Bulgaria’s vaccine strategy, EURACTIV reported back in January that the country had put all its eggs in one basket, by banking on the cheaper AstraZeneca vaccine, and not using its quotas of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Later, Borissov demanded a “fairer distribution”.

    • Germany: “Coffin” protest outside Federal Chancellery demands hard lockdown

Activists from an organisation intended to shape politics, placed coffins in front of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin on Monday, highlighting deaths caused by COVID-19 and demanding a hard lockdown in a unified response to the pandemic.

“There are still many people dying, the numbers are increasing daily and the intensive units in the hospitals are overcrowded by now,” said Clara Koschies, Press Officer of Move Politics Campact (Bewegt Politik Campact).

Clara also stressed that the organisation believes that remote working is important to tackle the pandemic.

“We need home office, for everyone who can and for the factories where they can’t have home office we need a test duty every week and that is what we are here for,” she said.

According to the data compiled by Germany’s Robert Koch Institute as many as 78,452 people have died with the coronavirus in Germany.

      *SOUNDBITES*

SOT, Clara Koschies, Press Officer of Campact movement: “We are here because, there was actually planned before that there was a corona summit today where the ministers of the regions were discussing a unified approach but this meeting has just been cancelled and we are still looking today and no consequences but there are still many people dying, the numbers are increasing daily and the intensive units in the hospitals are overcrowded by now.”

SOT Clara Koschies, Press Officer of Campact movement: “And still the politicians cannot agree on a unified approach, especially taking into account that the world of work has to be in the duty also. We need home office, for everyone who can and for the factories where they can’t have home office we need a test duty every week and that is what we are here for.”

    • paul j watson – Chile: Elderly Woman Denied Entry to Supermarket After Failing to Obtain Government Permission to Buy Food

A video out of Chile shows an elderly woman being refused entry to a supermarket because she didn’t obtain the necessary government permission to buy groceries under the country’s lockdown rules.

The clip shows the woman, who is apparently 100-years-old, appearing to be confused as she is denied access by security guards in uniform.

“Unfortunately government measures are not intended for the most vulnerable, not everyone handles the technology, not everyone has access to the internet,” tweeted Radio Villa Francia along with the video.

In Chile, people have to apply for a “safe conduct pass” online, which only allows them to buy essential food items twice a week between the hours of 5am and 9pm.

Under the country’s ‘sanitary quarantine’, citizens must request “temporary instruments that authorize people to carry out fundamental activities and stock up on essential goods and services” in their communes.

The elderly lady’s failure to obtain the pass may have been related to her presumed inability to navigate the Internet.

The video serves as a chilling reminder as to what could be introduced in the west once vaccine passports and Chinese-style social credit score programs are implemented.

In the UK, vaccine passports won’t initially be required to enter venues like pubs, restaurants and grocery stores, but the government refused to rule it out longer term in their planning document.

In China, citizens who allow their social credit score to dip as a result of committing relatively minor infractions are denied the right to purchase things like plane and train tickets.

HIDDEN TREASURE: THE LITTLE GREEN BOOK

“… just because one can guess the nature of a tale doesn’t make it any less worth the telling. One might even find a treasure they’ve missed before, or see a glimmer of true things therein …”

    Sam Westhoek

    Chasing the Dragon

After twenty years, we have decided to sell our house. Imogene is nearing retirement and it just seems the right thing to do, and the right time to do it. The easy part for us was deciding to sell, the hard part is decluttering, sorting through and selectively pitching two decades of accumulated “stuff.”

So many memories that mean so much to us: but so little to anyone else.

Last week, I started cleaning out the drawers of my rolltop desk—purchased with my Vietnam service bonus provided by the state of Ohio—and (as you can imagine) it has been a trip down memory lane: old artwork, pictures of family and friends, assorted gifts and keepsakes, and snippets of writings long forgotten. But in one drawer, hidden underneath handfuls of foreign currency (coins and paper), I discovered a true hidden treasure: a little green notebook with a variety of handwritten entries from 1997.

    Nuggets buried for twenty-three years.

Notes written from a time long before my hands started shaking with “family tremors.”

Among those nuggets was a two-page entry under the heading “My ten favorite eating experiences.” Others may keep book on people they meet, places they travel, love won and lost, fortunes earned and squandered; for me, however, most of my memorable life experiences are attached to food—especially steaks. I can still remember as a child my first restaurant T-bone steak during a family outing to Indian Lake, Ohio. I have been looking for a steak as good as that one ever since. So, in 1997, I scribbled down notes about my favorite ten lifetime eating experiences. Since then, I have been on a one-man quest to replace one of the ten listed places with a newer, better “feedbag” experience.

Brad refers to Abdullah’s “Prophet” lineage as if it matters.
      _Nope_
His grandfather was assassinated. Only NON-Arabs can be trusted as bodyguards for the family. Ibn Saud wanted to kill them all, but the British propped them up with titles and deracinated them.

The dwarf kinglet is despised by the people of Jordan for the same reasons he’s a favorite in the West. His mother was a Brit, his entire education was Western. A heavy drinker, he throws around vast sums in our fleshpots. (But PTrump didn’t like him.)

Brits bestowed these titles on Arabs – they’re alien to Arab culture. Ottomans and Persians are a whole different species.

A beduin chieftain is owed fealty by tribals, who account for about 25% of the Jordanian population. Old King Hussein knew young Hamzah would be most suitable: begotten of a proper Arab mother and a cultural fit.

Then the drunken dwarf kinglet[*] changed the line of succession, replacing Crown Prince Hamzah, his half-brother, with his own wastrel son.

“Palestinians” – clans of Muslim Arabs who drifted to the region throughout the 20th century – constitute the majority of the population. They saw through the British “royal” hocus-pocus: beduin are traditionally regarded as primitive camel-drivers. This was and remains an alien imposition.

And they hate this particular bogus monarchy with a purple passion. King Hussein ruled with an iron fist, beat down a serious uprising in 1970. A _very_ big deal in a place where memories endure.

Jordan’s “stability” is a function of American, British, and Israeli intervention. Constant and pervasive intelligence, police state tactics, dungeons and dragons.

If you really want to get shot by the police or at least roughed up you can do it with a chewing gum wrapper and a lot of attitude. First, drop the wrapper on the ground right in front of a police officer, making sure he sees you do it. Then, when he asks you to please pick it up you respond with, “Why don’t you pick it up yourself, Pig?”.

Then he asks you for ID and you tell him “I ain’t showing no ID, Pig”. A small crowd is now forming. Then the cop says, “If you don’t show me some ID I’m going to take you downtown”, to which you say, “That’s against my constitutional rights, Pig. I don’t have to talk to you or do what you say or show you any fucking ID, Pig.”

Then the cop begins to arrest you and you start screaming bloody murder and saying, “I can’t breathe… I need to go to the hospital… I want to see your supervisor… I didn’t do nuthin’… Please don’t shoot me, Mr. Policeman… Boo, hoo, hoo… Let me go…” The crowd starts getting mouthy as it sides with your wrapper-criminal…

And finally, it all ends with the evening news showing the cop kneeling on the guy’s chest and pounding him in the head as the crowd reaches the riot-point, and all over a damn gum wrapper… These guys could get themselves shot by the crossing guard. The thing is that the police are not allowed to walk away from lawbreaking and will be fired for malfeasance if they simply retreat from a situation because it looks dicey. No matter how tough the bad guy is, they have to take him down and take him in, and if that means killing him over a gum wrapper, then so be it, it’s his call…

This army Lieutenant should have simply pulled over and politely handed the police his ID instead of immediately resisting verbally while refusing to do as he is told. He was baiting the cops from the minute they hit the siren and now he’s going to need $27,000,000 to make the pain of white racism go away…

  13. (CNN) — France is set to ban short domestic flights in favor of train services, after lawmakers approved a plan that will see several air routes discontinued to reduce emissions.
MPs voted late on Saturday to some suspend some flights by domestic airlines that can be made by train in less than two-and-a-half hours, as part of a wider climate bill.
If the bill passes through France’s upper house, the Senate, France will join a number of European countries seeking to move away from short flights.
But some have criticized President Emmanuel Macron for watering down proposals from his own environmental panel, which had recommended a ban on flights where a train journey would take less than four hours.

Note: limiting travel, by making it very difficult and delays unpredictable, was part and parcel behind the Iron Curtain. First, if you were to travel, you were supposed to inform your local police, so you could be tracked – something that was completely ignored and not enforced, but, if The State wanted to bring you up on some charges, this could be brought up and used.

Travel was done by bus or train – because they are pretty slow and inefficient means of travel, so the cost in time and effort for one to travel would be very high and discourage one from doing so unnecessarily.

Sure, tourist attractions and such had great connections, so it was easy to get there.

Which brings into question why the travel services to other areas were so poor.

Controlling travel is a very effective way to control the spread of information – information ‘not fit’ to publish in the government controlled newspapers.

Today, the clamp-down on the spread of any news that is not aligned with ‘THE NARRATIVE’ on both the mainstream corporate media and by the tech giants reminds me on the clamp-down on not approved information behind the iron curtain. Limiting travel back then and there served to limiting certain events/happenings to just one controllable region and not letting enough people know about it in order to organize any meaningful opposition.

Limiting travel was very effective at doing exactly that.

And now, starting in France, I fear we are seeing the first tiny step towards making travel ‘difficult’, even though it is not international travel…

After all, the COVID excuse will, eventually wear out.

But, by then, people will have become used to governments putting great restrictions on travel – international, yes, but even domestic – ‘for the public good’. And here we see the dovetailing of ‘Global Warming’ excuse for increased government over-reach into that public climate…and, by making travel more difficult, clamping down on the spread of information that had been censored from the official streams.

    End well, this will not!

Protesters reportedly set fire to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Portland on Saturday night before cops swept in to disperse the crowds.

Photos and videos posted on social media showed flames engulfing a barrier protecting the ICE building in Portland’s South Waterfront district, which has been a frequent target of demonstrations over the past year.

The protesters also appeared to create a makeshift bonfire in front of the building by setting fire to a pile of wooden pallets.

As they have with many previous protests, the officers reportedly resorted to firing pepper balls into the crowd to force people to disperse.

The BLM website tells us that in 2013 “three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter.”

On the website, to this day, the organizers proudly share the inspiration for the group’s creation: “It was in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman.” The critical word here is “murderer.” An all-female jury believed rightly that Zimmerman shot Martin in self-defense and acquitted him of all charges, including murder. Their judgment simply did not matter to the three women who founded BLM.

In the ongoing Minneapolis trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, BLM and its allies have shown no more interest in justice than did Alice’s Queen of Hearts. “Sentence first — verdict afterwards,” said the Queen, and when Alice protested the Queen shouted, “Off with her head.” Fearing the loss of their heads, perhaps literally, too many powerful people stand by mutely as the mob begins to circle the Minneapolis Court House.

A study from Tel Aviv University found that a South African variant of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus affects people vaccinated with the Pfizer shot more than unvaccinated people.

The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, indicated that the B.1.351 variant of the virus was found eight times more in individuals who were vaccinated—or 5.4 percent against 0.7 percent—against those who were not vaccinated. Clalit Health Services, a top Israeli health-care provider, also helped in the study.

“We found a disproportionately higher rate of the South African variant among people vaccinated with a second dose, compared to the unvaccinated group,” said Adi Stern of Tel Aviv University. “This means that the South African variant is able, to some extent, to break through the vaccine’s protection.”

The prevention and control of African swine fever has become normal practice in mainland China but official reports on the African swine fever epidemic in China have been sporadic.

On April 7, Henan Shuanghui Investment and Development Co., Ltd., a leading company in China’s meat industry, revealed on an investor interactive platform that the African swine fever epidemic will be an uncertain factor affecting the price trend of live pigs this year and needs close attention.

China had a large-scale outbreak of African swine fever from August 2018 to the end of 2019. It hit the pork industry hard and caused pork prices to soar. In January and February of this year, the price of pork in China had a short-lived decline. A report on Yicai.com suggested that this was related to the concentrated selling caused by the outbreak of African swine fever. The report said that African swine fever has never disappeared in China.

According to Jan Cortenbach, chief technical officer of feed producer Wellhope-De Heus Animal Nutrition, “at least 20 percent of the hog was affected, and maybe even 25 percent” in northern and northeastern provinces of China by the outbreak of African swine fever in the first quarter of this year.

As First Liberty General Counsel Mike Berry testified, “those who would use, threaten, or advocate violence to accomplish their [political] objectives” should have no place in the ranks. Yet the military stand-down briefings meant to root out “extremism” in the military arguably set the stage for something far more sinister.

“We should reject any attempt to weaponize anti-extremism efforts against classes of people simply because those in authority disapprove of them,” Berry wisely warned. Sadly, the anti-extremism briefings that the Department of Defense pushed on military branches during the recent “stand-down” order are ripe for abuse — and the “anti-extremism” effort will likely translate into a political/ideological witch hunt against conservatives.

Any PJ Media reader familiar with my work knows that I have long covered the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which uses a vague and malleable definition of “hate group” in order to smear mainstream conservative and Christian organizations and place them on a list — and a “hate map” — with the Ku Klux Klan. This inspired an attempted terrorist attack in 2012 (which the SPLC rightly condemned, but which did not lead the SPLC to remove the targeted organization).
