Reader’s Links for March 30, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Security footage of the bombing of a church in the Netherlands, March 30 2021.
Target was the (reformed) Mieras church in Krimpen aan den Ijssel.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4bScP7Swas

Nothing is known yet about motive, but the church’s pastor, Mr Kort, is known for his anti-gay statements, and the church was target of an LBTGQI protest.
The church was also criticized for flaunting the lockdown. Its pastor has stated that God’s law is above the state, that the constitution supports them, and that god will protect them from COVID (they believe in predestination).

I’m sick of the lies. They’re pushing this narrative that Trump supporters are beating up Asians because Trump called the virus the “Wuhan flu” when anybody can see that there is an epidemic of stupid psychopathic murderous cowardly black thugs (also known as “teens”) beating up defenceless Asian people, usually old and or female, apparently just for fun, just like when they sucker-punch white people like Rick Moranis in the “knockout game”. This is an outrage. They’re trying to say that white bigots are beating up Asians when it is in fact the Black Lives Matter crowd that is committing the crimes – as per usual.

And look at how nobody on the subway even thinks of helping the poor victim out. They’ve got us so de-clawed and neutered that we don’t even know how to stand up to a bully for fear of being punished for acting on our own. The teacher’s union has taught us all that defending yourself or anybody else is “right-wing” vigilantism and therefore wrong. That crowd should have beaten that African American Gentleman to death and lit the body on fire but all they could do was go, “Oh, my God!”. A sorry sad sight, indeed…

    • A gun could have diffused this situation, and allow this alleged assailant, to back off and create a space for sensible discussion. Because, what the camera may only have witnessed is an Eye for an Eye event. A revenge attack.

To say it is “beating up Asians” is premature. Or even robbing a weaker victim. Sure, looks that way, but people say Floyd George was murdered whilst not knowing he was drugged up and resisting arrest. Turning it into a racial oppression.

So upsetting ourselves from our own perspective, might just be a prejudice.
If it were another Asian guy, would we be less angry or fearful? That this an awareness of the agenda of Marxists in Media and Government who are pushing “Hate Crimes,” that raises the stakes to Revolution and Genocide. The Mob that will destroy civilization and bring in the iron fist of Communism.

Muslims in the street can get quickly radicalized. So can Blacks. This realization, of the constant brainwashing of the masses going on against all those who “act white.” The powerless made powerful through upset, rage, and violence. And no Police Service will stop them.

“Acting white,” has never been about color. It is about intelligence.

And one day on a train, all this attacker will have to say, is “boo” to receive all the reparations he can carry.

Until, the Useful Idiots are forced into camps to make training shoes.

A gun puts such nonsense away. It is an equalizer. And the Socialist know it.

  4. Listen to Rosa Koire Explain Agenda 21
    by Diana West – March 27, 2021

Radio Pacifica may not be my ordinary beat but I would listen to Rosa Koire anywhere.

This extremely well-done one-hour interview by “Guns and Butter” is an excellent primer as to who Rosa Koire is and how she came to be a critic, pre-eminent de-mystifier and Paul Revere of “Agenda 21” the plan for our global servitude drawn up at the United Nations under the “green mask,” as Rosa calls it, of environmentalism.

Agenda 21 is also executed against us in the guise of “The Great Reset,” the globalist highway to subjugated humanity on which President Donald J. Trump was a roadblock and thus had to be thrown to the curb by the coup of November 3 to January 6. It is overwhelming to imagine the black-hole-immensity of the conspiracy that was required to nullify Trump’s landlslide re-election of 2020.

This has all been a long time coming but the past year of government/media-manufactured hysteria over a 99.9 percent non-lethal “virus” certainly accelerated the pace of catastrophic change to our world and psyches which we must understand if we are to have a chance at protecting any modicum of individual sovereignty to live apart from the counterintelligence state that will be the regional enforcer of these hideous agendas.

      • “In general, the migration of Jews from Western Europe to Ottoman Empire was greeted kindly by the authorities. In 1553, Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent taking up the opinion of his personal doctor and adviser, Moses Hamon, reconfirmed the orders of Mehmed II, which prohibit local courts from adjudicating the cases pertaining to alleged Jewish ritual murder.[15] He also successfully counter-measured the intention of Pope Paul IV to place the Jews of Ancona into the hands of the Inquisition.[16]

However, later the attitude of the authorities towards the Jews deteriorated. In 1579 Sultan Murad III reportedly heard that Jewish women wore silk clothes decorated with precious stones, and ordered the destruction of all Jews in the Empire.[17] Even though the decree was lifted, thanks to Shlomo Ashkenazi, the adviser to the Grand Vizier, a special clothing was ordered for Jews to wear. In particular, women were forbidden to wear silk, and men have been prescribed to wear a special form of hat.[12]”

    • AUSTRALIA – Queensland mandate only vaccinated hospital staff will treat COVID patients

All Queensland hospital staff treating COVID-19 patients will be mandated to receive the first dose of the vaccine.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said as of Wednesday only those staff who have received their first dose of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine can “work directly” with confirmed cases.

It comes as Queensland recorded eight locally-acquired cases of COVID-19 in the past 24-hours with 78 active cases of the virus currently in the state’s hospitals.

The premier also announced the existence of a further COVID cluster, with one now linked to the Princess Alexandra Hospital doctor and the new cluster linked to the hospital nurse.

The Queensland government set a target to vaccinate all workers in phase 1a in four to six weeks from the beginning of the vaccine rollout, but Dr Young announced the state has “reached that.”

Dr Young said given all staff in phase 1a have “had the opportunity to be vaccinated,” it will be mandated that only staff who have received the jab can work with COVID-positive patients.

    • the guardian – Covid: new vaccines needed globally within a year, say scientists

Survey of experts in relevant fields concludes that new variants could arise in countries with low vaccine coverage

The planet could have a year or less before first-generation Covid-19 vaccines are ineffective and modified formulations are needed, according to a survey of epidemiologists, virologists and infectious disease specialists.

Scientists have long stressed that a global vaccination effort is needed to satisfactorily neutralise the threat of Covid-19. This is due to the threat of variations of the virus – some more transmissible, deadly and less susceptible to vaccines – that are emerging and percolating.

The grim forecast of a year or less comes from two-thirds of respondents, according to the People’s Vaccine Alliance, a coalition of organisations including Amnesty International, Oxfam, and UNAIDS, who carried out the survey of 77 scientists from 28 countries. Nearly one-third of the respondents indicated that the time-frame was likely nine months or less.

Persistent low vaccine coverage in many countries would make it more likely for vaccine-resistant mutations to appear, said 88% of the respondents, who work across illustrious institutions such as Johns Hopkins, Yale, Imperial College, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the University of Edinburgh.

“New mutations arise every day. Sometimes they find a niche that makes them more fit than their predecessors. These lucky variants could transmit more efficiently and potentially evade immune responses to previous strains,” said Gregg Gonsalves, associate professor of epidemiology at Yale University, in a statement.

“Unless we vaccinate the world, we leave the playing field open to more and more mutations, which could churn out variants that could evade our current vaccines and require booster shots to deal with them.”

The current crop of vaccines that have received emergency authorisations in different parts of the world is a mix of old and fresh technologies.

Of particular interest is the mRNA approach, employed by the companies Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, which can be tweaked at speed (within weeks or months) to accommodate new variants – however, manufacturing hiccups are always a potential problem.

But crucially, they are unlikely within reach of poorer countries, given that this set of vaccines are far more expensive and have comparatively onerous temperature storage requirements.

Meanwhile, resource-rich countries like the UK and US have administered at least one vaccine dose to more than a quarter of their populations and have secured hundreds of millions of supplies. In contrast, nations such as South Africa and Thailand haven’t even managed to get shots in the arms of 1% of their populations. Some countries are yet to administer their first dose.

Covax – the global vaccine initiative coalition aimed at countering so-called vaccine nationalism – hopes to be able to supply at least 27% of the population of lower-income countries with vaccines in 2021.

“The urgency we see in rich nations to vaccinate their populations, aiming for all adults by the summer, is simply not reflected globally. Instead, we have Covax aiming for perhaps 27% by the end of the year if we possibly can manage it – that is simply not good enough,” said Max Lawson, head of inequality policy at Oxfam and the chair of the People’s Vaccine Alliance, which is calling Covid-19 vaccine developers to openly share their technology and intellectual property to boost production.

“Where is the ambitious global goal? A goal that the science tells us is needed?’ I think that’s the key point – we just don’t see the ambition that would go along with it, widespread recognition that limited vaccination is quite dangerous.”

    • Germany: CDU chair promises better COVID-19 management to restore voters trust

Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chair Armin Laschet promised better management in the COVID-19 pandemic, speaking from CDU headquarters in Berlin, on Tuesday.

Laschet admitted, “mistakes of pandemic management and the personal wrongdoing of some, selfishness in our own ranks , have led to a decline in confidence in the reliability and efficiency of the Union as a whole.”

He vowed to “change” that. “We will do better, I personally vouch for that,” he added.

Laschet spoke out against Chancellor Angela Merkel’s criticism against states failing to implement COVID-19 restrictions and the “emergency break” agreed at the federal meeting last week.

“You can’t regulate centrally from above, down to the last institution, who can be vaccinated, how, where and when, what forms have to be filled out,” he said, “We must put more trust in those who do this on the spot, give them more free space and more flexibility.”

According to data compiled by Robert Koch Institute, 11.1 percent of the population (9 million people) of Germany has received one dose of the COVID vaccine and 4.8 percent (just under 4 million people) have received both.

SOT, Armin Laschet, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chair (German): “The pandemic weighs heavily on our souls, with the pandemic, which we have so far only partially succeeded in combating. We all wanted faster vaccinations and more vaccines, more opportunities through more tests, better digital contact tracking. We all want our freedoms back, we long for social contacts, we long to embrace our children in our arms again, go to town, to restaurants and concerts carefree. Mistakes of pandemic management and the personal wrongdoing of some, selfishness in our own ranks, have led to a decline in confidence in the reliability and efficiency of the Union as a whole.”

SOT, Armin Laschet, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chair (German): “I am telling you today we will change that, we will do better, I personally vouch for that. As the Party of the Middle, we are the innovative core of German politics. We want and can be a bubbling source of creative ideas for sustainable environmental, energy, economic and digital policy.”

SOT, Armin Laschet, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chair (German): “The future cannot be shaped with ideological left-wing experiments, who promise you new freedoms but in truth take away freedoms. Dear friends that must be made clear in the election campaign, we are the stronghold against ideology-driven policies that reach into every part of people’s lives.”

SOT, Armin Laschet, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chair (German): “It is a mistake to think that it automatically gets better the more we regulate. That is also a lesson in the pandemic, you can’t regulate centrally from above, down to the last institution, who can be vaccinated, how, where and when, what forms have to be filled out. We must put more trust in those who do this on the spot, give them more free space and more flexibility, and get away from the idea that the better it is regulated, the better it runs. We need a highly effective, slim, strong, flexible and effective state.”

    • bloomberg – WHO Study Says Covid Likely Spread From Bats to Humans Via Another Animal

The most productive research would be to look for such an animal link, scientists said, after finding it improbable the virus resulted from a laboratory incident,

[…]Future studies should be broadened to investigate susceptible animal species in China and elsewhere.

[…] Possible intermediate host species include mink, pangolins, rabbits, raccoon dogs and ferret badgers, the report said.

[…]While the search has become highly politicized, governments and scientists agree that deciphering the virus’s creation story is key to reducing the risk of future pandemics.

[…]A spillover from bats via another animal is the most likely scenario in the report, followed by direct spillover. Introduction through frozen food was deemed possible, and a laboratory accident considered extremely unlikely.

    • EMA – European Medicines Agency

      Vaxzevria (previously COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca)

Vaxzevria is a vaccine for preventing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in people aged 18 years and older. COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Vaxzevria is made up of another virus (of the adenovirus family) that has been modified to contain the gene for making a protein from SARS-CoV-2.

Vaxzevria does not contain the virus itself and cannot cause COVID-19.

Detailed information about this vaccine is available in the product information, which includes the package leaflet.

THE BRUSSELS TIMES MARCH 30th 2021

      AstraZeneca vaccine renamed ‘Vaxzevria’

The coronavirus vaccine produced by the AstraZeneca pharmaceutical company is now called Vaxzevria, the Swedish medicine agency Läkemedelsverket announced based on data from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

The vaccine itself remains unchanged, but the Swedish agency considers the new name important, as it is accompanied by other things, such as new labelling and packaging.

The name change to Vaxzevria was approved by the EMA on 25 March, following an application from the company.

The vaccine produced by the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company has been the topic of discussion several times since it received the green light from the EMA in late January.

Right after its approval, various countries in Europe – including Belgium – decided to not use it for the elderly, while waiting for more data.

Later, in early March, several European countries temporarily suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine because of some cases of blood clots and low platelet counts.

On 18 March, the EMA reconfirmed that the vaccine was safe and effective, and that the benefits outweigh the possible risks, but is still investigating the matter.

Additionally, the company has also been the subject of discussion as it repeatedly reduced its promised deliveries to the EU, resulting in escalating tensions between the EU and the UK.

It doesn’t do to have lowly infidels fighting alongside the practitioners of jihad.

Raymond Ibrahim is a Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

Muslim soldiers are killing their Christian comrades in arms—apparently because the latter, as “infidels,” are already the enemy. Most recently, in Nigeria, a Muslim colonel stole weapons from an armory and then blamed the 12 soldiers on duty for the theft. Six of those 12 soldiers—all Christians—were then executed. According to a lawyer acquainted with the case:

Nothing exemplifies the corporate collusion to control thought better than an article in the New York Times’ opinion section.

Charlie Warzel, one of the Times’ opinion writers, argues that conventional critical-thinking skills become useless when confronting the massive amount of information available online. Instead, Warzel advocates simplifying the process by limiting internet browsing to one or two trusted sources — such as Google or Wikipedia — to evaluate quickly whether a subject warrants further research.

But FrontPage Magazine reported in “What if the ‘Conspiracy’ is Real?” that Google and Wikipedia manipulate information that contradicts their political agendas. Both did that to Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow who produced a documentary showing in detail how President Donald Trump’s opponents stole last year’s election on Joe Biden’s behalf.

The news has been quietly making the rounds in European news outlets, following an initial report by the newspaper De Standaard that was picked up subsequently by several French publications: a new translation of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, written between 1304 and 1307, is causing controversy following the translator’s alterations.

Valeurs Actuelles reported that Lies Lavrijsen, who was tasked with the translation of the famous book by the Florentine poet, decided to remove any mention of Muhammad altogether, in a push to make the text more “more pleasant and accessible.” Speaking on the Belgian radio station Radio 1, she defended her exclusion, stating “a widest possible accessibility,” especially for “a younger audience,” as her justification. She added: “We knew that if we left this passage as it was written, we would have unnecessarily hurt a large part of the readers.” Lies Lavrijsen even reveals that the decision was made “in the tense period that saw the death of the teacher Samuel Paty in France.”

  17. YouTube Launches Test to Hide Video ‘Dislike’ Counts

    Thumbs up or thumbs down?

For years, YouTube has allowed viewers to rate the videos on the site using either the “like” or “dislike” icons. But only now has the Google-owned video platform gotten the message that the thumbs-down button might be a means of bullying individual YouTube users.

YouTube on Tuesday announced that it has launched a “small experiment” to test several new designs that do not display a public dislike count. That came in response “to creator feedback around well-being and targeted dislike campaigns,” YouTube explained in a tweet.

“If you’re part of this small experiment, you might spot one of these designs in the coming weeks,” YouTube said in the tweet (below).

YouTube creators will continue to be able to see the number of likes and dislikes in the YouTube Studio dashboard tool. Viewers who are included in the test will still be able to like or dislike a video to “share feedback with creators” and help inform the recommendations they see on YouTube.

Notoriously, YouTube itself was the target of a broad “dislike” campaign a little more than two years ago.

In December 2018, the platform’s YouTube Rewind — its annual recap of culture and meme trends — set the record for the most dislikes less than a week after it was posted. Critics were unhappy that that year’s Rewind featured mainstream celebs like Will Smith, Trevor Noah and John Oliver while it ignored many native YouTube creators. Currently, it has 19 million “dislikes” and 2.9 million “likes.” YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki revealed that her kids told her the video was “cringey.”

In response to creator feedback around well-being and targeted dislike campaigns, we’re testing a few new designs that don’t show the public dislike count. If you’re part of this small experiment, you might spot one of these designs in the coming weeks (example below!).

YouTube tests hiding dislike counts in response to targeted campaigns, improve wellbeing

YouTube is always running several tests, and the latest sees it hide the public dislike count in response to creator feedback. It follows how the Google video site has publicly obscured subscriber totals for some time now.

YouTube is “testing a few new designs that don’t show the public dislike count.” One example sees Google continue to show how many thumbs up a video has underneath the icon, but the reverse action is just accompanied by the word “Dislike.” The regular Share, Download, and Save icons — with Shorts coming soon — round out the bar below a video on mobile.

For viewers, if you’re in the experiment, you can still like or dislike a video to share feedback with creators and help tune the recommendations you see on YouTube.

This move was made “in response to creator feedback around well-being and targeted dislike campaigns.” Google notes how creators will still “see the exact number of likes and dislikes in YouTube Studio.”

Notes on the drone swarms experienced by U.S. Navy ships in July 2019

USS John Finn (DDG-113) launches an SM3 BlkIIA missile in 2020. USN image

From 14 July until 30 July 2019, a handful of U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers operating off San Diego recorded several incidents in which they were overflown, in persistent patterns, by what appeared to be drones. The drones were said by witnesses later to be “tic-tac shaped,” seemingly referring to a shape resembling small, rounded lozenges.

The ships dispatched crew-manned intelligence teams, which presumably obtained images and video, but those media recordings haven’t been released to the public. That doesn’t mean no visual evidence was recorded. It would be very helpful to have something to look at, but the fact that it hasn’t been publicized doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

  19. Joe ‘Sanctuary City’ Biden
    Ken Sondik
    6-8 minutes

Drop dead. That’s the Biden administration’s message to victims of criminal illegal immigrants in joint stipulations submitted to the Supreme Court this month. The stipulations dismiss petitions filed last year asking the court to review two sanctuary city cases.

More on those cases later. In the Democratic fairy tale, sanctuary policies signal to victims of crime who are in the country illegally that they can work with police without fear of deportation — improving public safety. Sanctuary cities, goes the story, are safe cities.

This would be funny — if sanctuary policies haven’t gotten innocent people hurt (or worse), that is. (One of the more egregious examples is discussed here.)

  20. Biden administration will impose new regulations on meat industry, expert warns
    FOXBusiness
    4 minutes

The meat industry’s future retail pricing is in limbo, experts said, in anticipation of the Biden administration’s forthcoming emergency temporary health guidelines amid the coronavirus pandemic’s squeeze on the economy.

Earlier this year, White House said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration would release those standards on March 15.

But that day passed two weeks ago, and there was still no word from the administration heading into the weekend. Experts from the meat sector predicted heavy new regulations.

    Mordechai Sones – March 29, 2021

    Excerpt:

While Yeadon also fears terrible consequences due to these vaccination campaigns, he strongly disagrees with Vanden Bossche’s theory, and with the proposed solution of more vaccination.

“I think the Gerrt Vanden Bossche story is highly suspect,” Yeadon said. “There is no evidence at all that vaccination is leading or will lead to ‘dangerous variants’. I am worried that it’s some kind of trick.”

Geert Vanden Bossche’s Letter dated March 3, 2021

At the end of the letter excerpt:

If we, human beings, are committed to perpetuating our species, we have no choice left but to eradicate these highly infectious viral variants. This will, indeed, require large vaccination campaigns. However, NK cell-based vaccines will primarily enable our natural immunity to be better prepared (memory!) and to induce herd immunity (which is exactly the opposite of what current Covid-19 vaccines do as those increasingly turn vaccine recipients into asymptomatic carriers who are shedding virus).

  23. Note: the takeaway here is that ‘the zip tie guy’ did not bring the ties with him to the Capitol, he found them inside the Capitol…which 100% debunks the narrative that he came there with the intent to take hostages. Now, a judge agrees:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Capitol riot’s so-called “zip-tie guy” and his mother will be released from jail.

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ordered the release of Eric Munchel and Lisa Marie Eisenhart after prosecutors decided Monday to drop efforts to keep the pair locked up. That came days after a federal appeals court ordered the lower court to take a second look at the case.

Lamberth’s order reinstates the release conditions ordered by in January by Nashville Magistrate Chip Frensley, including home detention and electronic monitoring.

The D.C. district judge also prohibited Munchel and Eisenhart from using the Internet and encrypted messaging apps. They are also barred from contact with anyone involved in the Capitol riot.

Munchel, a former Nashville bartender, was photographed in the Senate gallery, wearing camouflage and holding several sets of plastic flex cuffs that he had apparently picked up inside the Capitol.

Video showed him and Eisenhart, from Woodstock, Georgia, entering the building through an open door, walking past Capitol police officers who made no attempt to stop them.

The D.C. Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals had questioned the legal basis for continuing to hold the pair.

“That Munchel and Eisenhart assaulted no one on January 6; that they did not enter the Capitol by force; and that they vandalized no property are all factors that weigh against a finding that either pose a threat of ‘using force to promote [their] political ends,'” Judge Judith Rogers wrote for the two-person majority in the case.

“In our view, those who actually assaulted police officers and broke through windows, doors and barricades, and those who aided, conspired with, planned or coordinated such actions, are in a different category of dangerousness than those who cheered on the violence or entered the Capitol after others cleared the way.”

  24. Judge rules Ohio professor can sue university over not using student’s preferred pronoun

A federal appeals court ruled on Friday that an Ohio professor can sue the university he accused of violating his constitutional rights after he was disciplined for refusing to follow school policy and address a transgender student by her preferred gender pronouns.

In a 32-page opinion, a panel from the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Nicholas Meriwether, a philosophy professor at Shawnee State University and a devout Christian, does have the right to sue his university.

“Traditionally, American universities have been beacons of intellectual diversity and academic freedom,” the three-judge panel wrote. “They have prided themselves on being forums where controversial ideas are discussed and debated. And they have tried not to stifle debate by picking sides.”

“But Shawnee State chose a different route: It punished a professor for his speech on a hotly contested issue. And it did so despite the constitutional protections afforded by the First Amendment. The district court dismissed the professor’s free-speech and free-exercise claims. We see things differently and reverse,” the opinion added.

All three of the judges were GOP appointees, with two having been nominated by former President Trump.

The Hill has reached out to Shawnee State University for comment.

Meriwether filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in 2018 against university officials after he received a written rebuke for not addressing a transgender student by her preferred pronouns. In the suit, he said he felt that using she/her pronouns with the student would have “forced him to violate his sincerely held Christian beliefs.”

  25. A group of teachers and others in Loudoun County, Virginia, compiled a blacklist of parents who they felt disagreed with the school’s teaching of critical race theory (CRT), in an effort to humiliate them online.

The blacklist was in part to “infiltrate,” to use “hackers” to silence parents’ communications and to “expose these people publicly,” the Daily Wire first reported.

Loudoun County has long been at the forefront of woke progressivism. It was the school district which first took aim at Dr. Seuss books for their “strong racial undertones.”

  26. TOKYO (Reuters) – A Tokyo restaurant operator suing the city for mandating shorter business hours decried the “hypocrisy” of health officials who flout the government’s own COVID-19 contagion protocols.

Kozo Hasegawa, the operator of 43 restaurants including one that inspired the movie “Kill Bill: Volume I,” is contesting the constitutionality of the measures and said that reports of bureaucrats going out at night proves they do not believe in the protocols either.

“They don’t think that it’s really dangerous for them to go out and drink,” Hasegawa, the president of Global-Dining Inc told reporters on Tuesday. “It’s hypocrisy.”

  27. West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice on Saturday signed into law the bill that school-choice advocates say will implement the nation’s broadest nonpublic school vouchers program.

Programs in other states are limited to low-income, special-needs or other subsets of students, or have caps on the number of recipients in general. But West Virginia’s program will be open to all K-12 students, including by offering public money to families who already don’t use the public school system.

Effective beginning in the 2022-23 school year, families who withdraw their children from public schools can receive a currently estimated $4,600 per-student, per-year for private- and home-schooling expenses. Families also may receive the money for newly school-aged children whom they never want to go to public schools.

Republican supermajorities passed this legislation (House Bill 2013) without a single Democrat vote.

Democrats raised concern about its effect on public schools, which have been losing students annually since 2012, dropping from about 282,300 children that year to 261,600 in fall 2019 and, after the coronavirus pandemic hit, 252,400 in fall 2020.

State funding for public schools is largely based on enrollment, and children leaving them take that money with them to home- and private-schooling in the form of these vouchers.

Note: Matt Gaetz has, in some circles, been regarded as ‘the unlikely winner’ of the 2024 Republican nomination. I know, there are other older, more ‘likely’ candidates – as well as some highly regarded outsiders – but in my never-humble-opinion, this is the ‘Hard Left’s’ attempt to neutralize one of the potentially most powerful 2024 Republican candidates.
