Reader’s Links for March 13, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/internet-connection-records-ip-act

For the last two years police and internet companies across the UK have been quietly building and testing surveillance technology that could log and store the web browsing of every single person in the country.

The tests, which are being run by two unnamed internet service providers, the Home Office and the National Crime Agency, are being conducted under controversial surveillance laws introduced at the end of 2016. If successful, data collection systems could be rolled out nationally, creating one of the most powerful and controversial surveillance tools used by any democratic nation.

Despite the National Crime Agency saying “significant work” has been put into the trial it remains clouded in secrecy. Elements of the legislation are also being challenged in court. There has been no public announcement of the trial, with industry insiders saying they are unable to talk about the technology due to security concerns.

The trial is being conducted under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, dubbed the Snooper’s Charter, and involves the creation of Internet Connection Records, or ICRs. These are records of what you do online and have a broad definition. In short, they contain the metadata about your online life: the who, what, where, why and when of your digital life. The surveillance law can require web and phone companies to store browsing histories for 12 months – although for this to happen they must be served with an order, approved by a senior judge, telling them to keep the data.

    • Knowing what we now know about the Democrat FBI it is positively terrifying to think of them having your voting and thinking habits in your dossier before they even meet you – a little code mark “R” next to your name. After seeing what they did to Roger Stone for being an “R” there is no question of where their biases lie or what they think of the human rights of conservatives or the Constitution of the United States for that matter. I think they’d frame you in a heartbeat if they thought you’d voted for Donald Trump or Ted Cruz or anybody on the right. Only a fool would trust the FBI…

The FBI should be disbanded immediately with their present caseloads handed over to State Authorities…

      • The clause: “used by any democratic nation” alone is proof that that country is no longer a democracy and WRT the FBI I absolutely agree but then the CIA, the NSA and the DoJ also need a dire flush,

      • If I were American, and an FBI came to visit, I would ask one question:

I understand that it is a crime to lie to the FBI. Is it also a crime for the FBI to lie to me? No? Then I have nothing to say to you.

  3. I write this years ago and just found it and added to it. I am not having a good day today so it is a little disjointed. If anyone wishes to tear it up please BMG and I will reply in a day or so.

Law had its origins as a set of rules by which the elite proved their right to rule and gave them the permission to hang you if you objected. It has always been about order and the maintaining of the hierarchy.
The Law in the west has always claimed to protect its citizens: it does not. It merely pretends to do so but only when convenient to the ruling elite. How it defines “truth” alone provides a clue: select questions to selected individuals will scarcely find the absolute truth. But it will find their desired “truth”.

The best example is organized crime. Everyone seems to have no problems in knowing who they are and who runs them. But despite the “best” intentions they merely scratch the surface. Now why is this? I think that this is because such organizations are seen as useful to the elite and the reasons are multiple. When you consider just how many of the elite had a beginning as bootleggers, robber barons or worse. The Law has never been interested in removing them as they are convenient to have around and often very useful. Nor is it designed to do so. Criminal law only convicts real criminals who are incompetent, unlucky or stupid as a rule. There are exceptions but they are few.

The Law is there to mostly detect and catch those honest citizens who default from, disagree with, disobey or deny the law by actually breaking it, deliberately or accidentally or now, who threaten to do so. The law is designed to detect and apprehend those within the system who aberrate as they see these people as the greatest threat. Just think about that for a second. WE are the greatest threat to the elite. NOT criminals whom they see as useful occasional employees and a ready source of blame, but us. Why? Because it is us, the so silent majority that they fear so much they now have to indoctrinate our children now with lies so that they become alienated from us and what we stand for. This is not some trendy, garbage facade. This is deliberate. So then why are they now so determined to do so? Think about Gates and his stated aims: 80% removed by 2100.

All of the surveillance equipment: visual, audio, internet, is to control us, not to detect criminals, as that is an accidental side effect. This has been carefully planned for a very long time and the current elite are just finally approaching the concept of control nirvana that the law was originally intended to do by those who first framed it
With the current discrimination in the west where muslims, leftists and blacks can riot, trespass, destroy or even kill and escape punishment you are really seeing this in action. Initially in their case, active intervention was required if they were actually caught by police but now, because of this, we are now seeing a marked split in the application of law to conservatives who face the full intended effect of law and harshly: the CV19 excuse for police power plays are just the beginning
The gun laws in many western states were not just about guns, but control of people and hence the importance of the 2nd amendment in the USA. But criminals in such states have no problems possessing them or obtaining them (often via small ships that anchor far from ports, customs and police). The elite do not care about them as it is us that they are after.
This is why traffic law, once a boundary area of law, initially to decrease road casualties, but now mostly for revenue gain, has now become a fully fledged part of quasi criminal law and the gun licence removal threats are absolute proof of this.

    • Criminal politicians, especially those of the wealthier class, almost always escape prosecution for their crimes. Those who don’t escape are mostly of the type that get either cornered or lynched by their own citizenry (Ceaucescu, Mussolini and others come to mind).

  5. London mayoral candidate Laurence Fox on Covid vaccines, lifting lockdown and ‘woke’ Sadiq Khan

A mayoral candidate today sparked a backlash after saying that Britons had a “sovereign choice” to decide whether or not to get vaccinated.

Laurence Fox, the actor and “anti-woke” campaigner, broke with the consensus of encouraging widespread take-up of the Covid jab as he called for lockdown to be lifted.

He appeared to cast doubt on the UK’s 125,000 death toll from the pandemic, claiming some doctors were seeking to add non-Covid deaths –including that of his mother last year – to the official tally to support the “Government’s fear-based narrative”.

He also questioned the scientific basis of long Covid, despite estimates that 140,000 Londoners have suffered post-viral ill health.

  10. NYT – Who Is Arora Akanksha, the 34-Year-Old Running for U.N. Secretary General?

The United Nations auditor, with no diplomatic experience, has declared her candidacy for secretary general — an audacious bid to shake up an organization that she says badly needs it.

UNITED NATIONS — Never mind that Arora Akanksha has worked at the United Nations for only about four years, as an auditor recruited from an accounting firm. Put aside that at age 34, she has no diplomatic experience.

And forget that she is less than half as old as the incumbent she wants to replace, Secretary General António Guterres, 71, the veteran Portuguese statesman and former U.N. High Commissioner for refugees.

Ms. Arora — she uses her family name first and prefers to be called Arora — said that as a grandchild of people who were once refugees, she was acutely aware of difficult odds.

But with a $30,000 campaign budget drawn largely from her savings, a website and a social media promotion that begins with, “people in my profession aren’t supposed to stand up to the ones in charge,” Ms. Arora has declared herself a candidate to be the next leader of the United Nations.

On Feb. 17, Ms. Arora, a native of India and citizen of Canada, submitted a formal letter of application for the 2022-27 term. “We are not living up to our purpose or our promise,” the letter stated. “We are failing those we are here to serve.”

No country has yet formally endorsed her unlikely candidacy. But if nothing else, Ms. Arora’s boldness has touched a nerve at the 193-member organization and thrown attention on the historically opaque way that its leader is picked. While the process has been made more transparent compared with the back-room bargaining that prevailed years ago, it is nonetheless widely expected that Mr. Guterres will win a second term when the selection is made in October.

Ms. Arora’s message, she said, is that the United Nations is sclerotic, wasteful, adrift, paternalistic and patronizing toward many of the younger members of its staff of 44,000 people around the world.

According to one of her campaign videos on YouTube, only about 29 cents of every dollar, from the U.N.’s total annual revenue of roughly $56 billion, goes to actual causes.

“We spend our resources on holding conferences, writing reports,” Ms. Arora, an audit coordinator for the United Nations Development Program, said in an interview. “All these frivolous activities that are advertising. We have lost course on why we exist, what we’re supposed to do.”

If the United Nations were a private company, she said, “it would have been, like, out of business.”

Far from dismissing her ambition as foolish or quixotic, friends and supporters admire her nerve and penchant for speaking her mind.

“She’s fearless,” said Pauline Pamela Pratt, a colleague at the United Nations Population Fund who worked with Ms. Arora in 2019. “She’s not afraid to be who she is, even among people who have authority over her.”

When Ms. Pratt learned of Ms. Arora’s plans to seek the secretary general job, she recalled having expressed surprise “but then thought, ‘why not go for it?’”

Some see Ms. Arora as naïve about the geopolitical forces that have shaped the United Nations over more than 75 years. Others have wondered how, precisely, she would reduce expenses for travel and other costs of running its far-flung operations.

Moreover, while the secretary general may have a bully pulpit, the position holds little real power, and its occupant is basically beholden to the five veto-wielding permanent members of the Security Council — Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States — which play a decisive role in who is ultimately chosen.

“I’m sure she has no chance, and equally sure that she knows that,” said Edward Mortimer, a former United Nations official who was the chief speechwriter for Kofi Annan, the secretary general from 1997 to 2006. “It’s a brave way of demonstrating unhappiness which I’ve no doubt is quite widely shared by her colleagues.”

Asked recently about Ms. Arora, Mr. Guterres’s spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, told reporters: “Let me put it this way. I speak for the incumbent candidate, but we have no comment on anyone else who may wish to put their hat in the proverbial ring.”

Ms. Arora, who has taken a leave of absence from work for her campaign, said she had received many positive messages from co-workers and more than 2,600 votes on her website, and is hoping to make her case to U.N. ambassadors in the next few months.

“This is not even a place that challenges, because they go through countries politically and negotiate,” Ms. Arora said. “So yeah, this is a straight-on challenge, and I don’t want to play games or anything, I just want to run an honest campaign.”

Not widely known outside her workplace, Ms. Arora has committed a number of head-turning firsts.

She is the first person known to officially challenge an incumbent seeking a second term, and the first millennial-generation candidate. And if she prevailed, Ms. Arora would be the first woman to lead the United Nations — a precedent nearly achieved in 2016, when seven prominent women were in the running with Mr. Guterres.

Ms. Arora talked about her life and ambition the other day in an interview at the United Nations headquarters, a few blocks from her studio apartment on Manhattan’s East Side.

She lives frugally, speaks daily with her parents, who are “very supportive,” Ms. Arora said, and reads Harry Potter books to relax. Her wardrobe of brightly colored dresses, including six acquired from Uganda and Kenya in 2017 while on a field assignment, stands out among the suits in her workplace.

As for why she aspired to lead the United Nations, Ms. Arora traced the reasons partly to her own refugee family background, to a Manhattan taxi accident that sent her to the hospital, and to her memory of a malnourished child in Uganda.

Like many Hindus, her grandparents fled from Pakistan to India after the 1947 partition, a fact that colors her outlook on the world. Asked about the possibility of losing to Mr. Guterres, she said, “Refugees have no plan B, hence I have no plan B.”

Ms. Arora was born in Haryana, a northern Indian state, and spent her youngest years in Saudi Arabia, where her parents, both doctors, had relocated. From age 9 to 18 she was back in India attending boarding school, she said, and then decided to move to Canada, where she graduated from York University with honors and worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada as an auditing manager.

Hired in December 2016 by the United Nations to help improve its internal financial controls, Ms. Arora said her admiration for the organization soon turned to shock.

“The system is so amazing on the outside, but there’s no coherence for getting things done,” she said.

Just weeks into the job, she was struck by a taxi after work, and as she lay on a hospital bed with a fractured left knee, she thought, “If I died, what would my legacy be?”

That, she said, was “my big awakening moment.”

That summer while working in Uganda, Ms. Arora said, she encountered a child eating mud. “That image stuck in my head,” she said, recalling how she told a senior U.N. official back in New York about it. His seemingly callous response stunned her.

“He said, ‘mud has iron,’” she said. “That was the first time I was speechless in my life.”

The exchange, she said, “was one of the big triggers for me.”

She plunged into learning more about U.N. history and went back to school while she kept working. She attended Columbia University’s graduate program in public administration, where she befriended a fellow student, Anne-Carine Frederique, a Haitian-American who had once interned at the United Nations and whose extended family in Haiti had suffered from a cholera epidemic that medical experts traced to U.N. peacekeepers — an enduring stain on the organization’s legacy.

With their shared criticisms of the United Nations, one thing led to another, Ms. Arora said, and Ms. Frederique, who works at Columbia’s business school, now helps manage her secretary general campaign.

While Ms. Arora has not received explicit endorsements from powerful U.N. figures, neither has she been discouraged. Mary Robinson, a former High Commissioner for Human Rights and former president of Ireland who was once considered a contender for secretary general, said, in an emailed statement, that she welcomed Ms. Arora’s candidacy as “entirely healthy.”

“I share many of the concerns raised by Arora Akanksha about the need to promote more women and younger staff members into management and leadership roles,” her statement said.

Lyric Thompson, senior director of policy and advocacy at the International Center for Research on Women — a group that has been grading Mr. Guterres’s record on gender issues and last year gave him a B — said Ms. Arora’s candidacy should not be underestimated.

“There has been increasing demand for feminist leadership for some time,” Ms. Thompson said. “From A.O.C. to Jacinda Ardern, we know better than to count out young female voices.”

A French magazine is laughing about Floyd’s death…and Meghan Markle.

This magazine is notorious for being racist and offensive and gaslighting people of color

Charlie Hebdo under fire over cover of Queen kneeling on Meghan’s neck

Charlie Hebdo has come under fire for a cover which shows the Queen kneeling on Meghan’s neck in a sick parody of George Floyd’s death.

The French satirical magazine published the caricature on its front page with the headline: “Why Meghan left Buckingham….”.

A speech bubble from Meghan reads: “Because I couldn’t breathe anymore.”

Charlie Hebdo’s cover was widely shared on Twitter on Saturday with many saying it was “utterly appalling”.

Dr Halima Begum, the CEO of anti-racism think tank the Runnymede Trust, tweeted the image calling it “wrong on every level”.

She said: “#CharlieHebdo, this is wrong on every level. The Queen as #GeorgeFloyd ‘s murderer crushing Meghan’s neck? #Meghan saying she’s unable to breathe? This doesnt push boundaries, make anyone laugh or challenge #racism. It demeans the issues & causes offence, across the board.”

Black and Asian Lawyers For Justice tweeted that the cover was “outrageous, disgusting, fascistic racism” adding that the magazine was “pimping George Floyd’s trauma for profit”.

Another person tweeted: “Words cannot describe just how disgusting I found that Charlie Hebdo cover.

“Punching down and constantly drawing racist caricatures it’s not satire.”

It comes after Meghan Markle claimed an unnamed member of the royal family made remarks about her son Archie’s skin colour before he was born, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

On Tuesday, Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying that the allegation of racism, was “concerning”, and said the matter would be dealt with privately.

Prince William later denied his family were racist when he was asked during a visit to a school in east London earlier this week.

On Friday, the city of Minneapolis reached a $27 million (£19 million) settlement with George Floyd’s family.

Jury selection for Mr Chauvin’s murder trial, scheduled to start on March 29, is currently under way.

This isn’t the first time Charlie Hebdo has been criticised for its cartoons.

The magazine has taken aim at dozens of political and religious public figures, most famously its depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

It was described by some as ‘blasphemy’ and blamed for the 2015 terror attack at the magazine’s Paris headquarters, which claimed the lives of 12 people.

    • DAILY MAIL – Fury as Charlie Hebdo magazine cover shows Queen kneeling on Meghan Markle’s neck in recreation of George Floyd’s death

French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo has been criticised for its latest cartoon
Shows the Queen kneeling on Meghan Markle’s neck, who says she can’t breathe
The image draws parallels to the horrifying death of George Floyd in May 2020
Campaigners and activists have branded the cartoon ‘appalling’ and ‘wrong’

      WARNING: DISTURBING IMAGE

French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo has come under fire for a cartoon which shows the Queen kneeling on Meghan Markle’s neck, drawing parallels to the death of George Floyd.

The publication, which has faced scrutiny before for its controversial drawings, has sparked outrage again just days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed they experienced open racism from family members and staff in the royal family.

The image appears to be replicating the horrifying death of George Floyd who died after police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes , despite Floyd’s desperate pleas for help crying, ‘I can’t breathe’.

      […]
Despite its reputation for ‘Je Suis Charlie’ free speech, Hebdo is frequently accused of racism and Islamophobia.

It denies the claims, saying that it is fully entitled to mock anybody it chooses.

Ahmad Shah, a vegetable vendor and a resident of Juhu Galli, has been arrested after he was caught sexually abusing a female stray dog near Andheri.

In a shocking incident, a 67-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping dozens of stray dogs in suburban Andheri West.

According to the reports, Ahmad Shah, a vegetable vendor and a resident of Juhu Galli, has been arrested after he was caught sexually abusing a female stray dog near Andheri. A complaint was lodged by Vijay Mohnani from NGO Bombay Animal Rights, who submitted a video to the police in which Shah could be seen raping the dog.

The video recorded by the NGO volunteer allegedly shows Ahmad Shah raping a stray dog. The complaint says that despite being warned by locals, he kept repeating such acts.

A report in Mid-Day stated that the NGO has submitted video evidence of the man raping dogs after giving them food. The police reportedly suspect that the vegetable vendor has raped over 30 dogs between 3 am to 4 am in the night over a long period of time. He allegedly offered the animals meat and raped them while they ate. The accused even claimed that since he had been feeding the animals and the animals “did not object”, it is not a crime.

The NGO has appealed to everyone to be kind to animals.

A senior official of DN Nagar police station, where the complaint has been filed, said that the accused Ahmed Shah has a history of committing such crimes. In the past, the residents had warned him against doing such barbaric crimes. One of the residents caught him indulging in the crime and informed an NGO about it.

Act was caught on camera, accused is a habitual offender
Animal Rights activist Mohnani has said in his complaint, “I received a call from a resident of Juhu Galli, who told me there is a man in their area who rapes street dogs. The man said he has a video shot in December 2020, where the accused is caught on camera raping the dog. I asked him why he did not complain to the police earlier… the man said he knew the accused and had warned him not to repeat the act, but the accused kept repeating it, and hence, he informed me about it.”

The police have now registered a case against Shah based on the evidence submitted by the NGO. We arrested him under relevant sections of IPC, including 377 (unnatural sex) and 429 (killing or maiming an animal) and Section 11 (treating animals cruelly) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, an official said.

In October last year, an 8-year-old female canine named Noorie was raped inside the Galleria shopping complex in Powai, Mumbai. A week before, a 65-year-old man was arrested for raping a dog at the Nerul railway station complex in Navi Mumbai

  22. global news – Proposed ‘Moon Ark’ would shoot sperm into space to save the Earth

The first humans walked on the moon in 1969. Will the last humans be born on the moon in 2969, after we’ve totally screwed up our own planet?

That’s the thinking behind a new proposal from researchers at the University of Arizona, who are floating the idea of building a futuristic Noah’s Ark-style complex on the moon.

The ark would be an underground facility staffed by robots, powered by the sun and stocked with loads of sperm, eggs, spores and seeds from 6.7 million species on Earth — just in case we totally kill ourselves and everything around us.

Researchers say such an ark would be a “modern global insurance policy” and a good investment in our future, especially since the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway is already seeing some wear and tear from climate change. The facility houses a catalogue of seeds from around the world, but does not include human or animal samples.

Lead engineer Jekan Thanga presented the Moon Ark idea to a gathering of experts, including NASA, at the IEEE Aerospace Conference earlier this month, where he described it in a 20-minute presentation.

Thanga says the moon would be a good place to set up a fully automated ark, because the moon is not susceptible to the same weather shifts that we see on our planet. It’s simply a cold, dead, boring ball, and it’s dense enough to repel solar radiation if we hide things below its surface. That makes it a good place to stockpile samples in cryogenically frozen capsules.

Thanga cited a few of the ways we could easily screw things up on Earth, including our ongoing failure to reverse climate change and the potential for nuclear war.

“Earth is naturally a volatile environment,” Thanga said in a news release from the university. “Because human civilization has such a large footprint, if it were to collapse, that could have a negative cascading effect on the rest of the planet.”

He says the notion of launching millions of samples into space might sound daunting, but some “back-of-the-envelope calculations” suggest it could be done in about 250 rocket launches. It took 40 launches to build the International Space Station, he points out.

“It’s not crazy big,” Thanga said of the project. “We were a little bit surprised about that.”

Of course, we’d have to send humans there to do the construction work.

NASA and its partners plan to send humans back to the moon as part of the Artemis program in 2024. The program could potentially lay the groundwork for future bases on the moon, both manned and unmanned, although the idea of building an ark is likely far down the road.

The moon pie-in-the-sky idea combines several cutting-edge or theoretical concepts to image a self-sufficient “ark” on the moon.

Researchers say the facility could be built in the empty lava tubes and pits underground, and it could be powered by solar panels on the moon’s surface. Magnets could be used to keep the samples cryogenically frozen, and sphere-shaped robots (like droid BB-8 from Star Wars) could be used to maintain the facility. Everything would need to be designed to operate at low temperatures, but the cold could be a good thing for keeping the frozen samples stable.

The Moon Ark is simply a proposal at this point, and there are no plans to actually start building it.

The researchers acknowledge that they still need to investigate the idea a lot more before a full plan can be assembled.

They also did not lay out plans for restarting life in the distant future, if that becomes necessary.

All that raises the question: Who will bring humanity back?

Will it be a few surviving Noahs who don’t die on Earth? Or will it be aliens who stumble upon the facility in some far-distant future?

Perhaps we need to answer an even bigger question first: If we screw things up once on Earth, do we deserve to come back for a second chance?

    ============================================
CBS – Scientists want to send 335 million seed, sperm and egg samples to the moon to create a lunar Noah’s Ark

Scientists are pulling inspiration from Noah’s Ark in a new lunar proposal that they call a “global insurance policy.” They hope to send an ark to the moon, filled with 335 million sperm and egg samples, in case a catastrophe happens on Earth.

Instead of two of every animal, the solar-powered moon ark would cryogenically store frozen seed, spore, sperm and egg samples from some 6.7 million Earth species. University of Arizona researcher Jekan Thanga and a group of his students proposed the concept in a paper presented during the IEEE Aerospace Conference this week.

“Earth is naturally a volatile environment,” Thanga, a professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering in the UArizona College of Engineering, said in a press release.
“As humans, we had a close call about 75,000 years ago with the Toba supervolcanic eruption, which caused a 1,000-year cooling period and, according to some, aligns with an estimated drop in human diversity.

Because human civilization has such a large footprint, if it were to collapse, that could have a negative cascading effect on the rest of the planet.”

Thanga highlighted climate change as the main concern, especially as it contributes to rising sea levels.

A deadly global pandemic and large-scale nuclear war are two other major possibilities that Doomsday Clock researchers cite for catastrophic disasters.
